The most notable trait of Toshiro is his perseverance in the face of hardships. Without it, he may not even have survived til this day. Either because of his handicap, his short stature or his upbringing, Toshiro comes across those who looked down on him regularly, but at the end of the day, none could possibly question his strengths. He would smile at the hardships he faced as if they were nothing to be concerned of, he would stand up again and again no matter how many times he was kicked down, and he won't stop once his mind is set on something. Within the so-called 'tiny body' of his, Toshiro nurtures a resilient flame that would shine brightly until he gives out his last breath.
Perhaps fated to stand up against life since he was so young had given Toshiro a sense of maturity and responsibility that anyone might find to be odd for someone of his age. In all honesty, Toshiro doesn't look like it at all, but he is a real natural born leader. Determined, decisive, confident and at the same time understanding, sensible and calm. And, that is exactly how he treats and leads his teammates. Toshiro is relaxed and friendly generally, but he knows when to keep silent for others to voice their minds, and when to give them an earful.
Being lonely most of his childhood, affection is what Toshiro secretly yearns for. That is why he can be quite clingy and doesn't hold back when it comes to physical contacts with those who are closed to him, be it the same or opposite gender. Toshiro is not one to lose his temper easily, and is usually indifferent to anyone making fun of him. But whatever you do, don't ever call him a 'shorty' or comment on his height.
Just don't.
Despite this semblance being so powerful, it comes with many drawbacks. The biggest one is that it somehow deprived Toshiro of his sense of sight since he was born, making him legally blinded, even though his eyes do not seem to be so. Secondly, he is not capable of activating his power at his will, nor controlling the extent of pain he inflicts on his target, which is why he kept his eyes covered all time to prevent unfortunate accidents. Lastly, some parts of the amount of pain he causes might be reflected back to him afterwards, at worst cases causing him to collapse altogether. With all these reasons Toshiro rarely, if ever, relies on his semblance in a fight.
With his semblance being as good as useless, Toshiro relies majorly on his weapon to carry himself on in a fight. And with his disadvantage at being blind, he has to fall back on his other senses to do anything. But not that it matters much now, as all of his remaining senses are several times more acute than normal people after extensive training, allowing him to kind of 'see' his surroundings in his own way. And Silver Cry - Toshiro's weapon, bestowed to him by his mentor, fits him perfectly. It is a long katana with a peculiar white blade, said to have been made by a very durable rare metal. It can also install different kinds of Dust to gain different proprieties, such as firing energy blasts or erecting barriers. Toshiro is capable of wielding Silver Cry quite flexibly and adeptly, and some of his dance-like techniques and moves are rather pleasing to behold. He can also wield it with another weapon if needed.
Afraid of what he might be capable of, Toshiro ran away from Vale, and somehow stumbled deep into the northern forest of Forever Fall. And of course, this forest was never a safe place for normal civilians to trespass into. Toshiro soon found himself cornered by a group of Grimm. But as he was resigning to his own fate, a strange man appeared and made quick work of them. He couldn't see how did the man look like, but he gave him a first impression of someone who is rather... grumpy and definitely not the friendliest person around. But nonetheless, it is thanks to this encounter that Toshiro had finally found a direction to head for, a light to grasp on to after being drowned in darkness for so long. The man revealed his name to be Skylar Dantelion and he is a master huntsman who once taught at Beacon Academy as a combat instructor, but retired after a battle that cost him his right arm and left eye and now he is living as a hermit in Forever Fall.
For ten years long, Toshiro was trained and cared for under the wings of Skylar. Well, the latter might not be very correct. Things didn't change much for Toshiro after he has moved in with his new mentor, as the man was downright the laziest person in the whole Remnant. Life certainly didn't get any easier for him, probably harder even. But Skylar gave him a father figure that he never had, and that was more than he could ever hope for. Given instructions and trained under a professional huntsman had shaped Toshiro into a decent fighter, and he is no longer afraid of the Grimms, like he once was.
But that isn't enough. Said Skylar. The man ultimately decided that Toshiro needs a proper education if he is determined to take on the path of a huntsman. And thanks to his connection to his former colleagues, Skylar managed to earn a spot as a student in Beacon Academy for his young disciple. While isn't really happy that he is not going to see his mentor much often, and worried that there would be no one to take care of him while he is gone, Toshiro knows there is still a great deal that his mentor cannot offer if he is going to become a hunter. And so, bestowed with Silver Cry - a sword crafted and wielded by Skylar during his younger days, and a promise made secretly between them, Toshiro went back to Vale and attended Beacon, as a new journey of his life begins.
