I run to live and live to read.
Mathew is a very independent person. After living what he felt was a life full of lies and deceit Mathew has absolutely no allegiance to any group or organization. He is also very smart, especially for someone like him. He is very secretive, no one knows where he lives, only how to contact him. He's also not to picky when it comes to work. He tends to run for the resistance since they tend to have the most jobs, but he's not afraid to work for the Bureau either. He's also very trustworthy. Both the Bureau and the Resistance know to not even bother trying to find out what his last job was. He's gained a reputation of being one of the best runners a person can get. As he's been known to say "I'll get you're crap where it needs to be on time and safe." So far he hasn't dissappointed.
His satchel is his main piece of equipment. He keeps almost everything he considers important in there, along with a bunch of other random crap to through off anyone serching through it. The most important things he keeps in it are a PDA, several old paper books, whatever packages he might be carrying and a small .22 pistol for defence. He also carries a small medal around as a goodlock charm, one he found out was called a Purple Heart.
The son of two resistance members, Mathew was used as a runner almost as soon as he started walking. His parents taught him not to ask questions or tell secrets to anyone, no matter how good or nice they seemed. He started off with local runs, but then started getting longer ones the older he got. At the age of ten, while out on an overnight run, his parents were caught in a Bureau raid. He has never learned out what has happened to them. Their sudden loss left Mathew adrift, so he continued to do the only thing he knew how to. Run. As he grew he continued to run, but not excusively with the resistance anymore. He ran for just about anyone who would pay, including criminal groups and occasionally for the Bureau itself. He however continued to grow more bitter, angry, and confused as he grew. He no longer knew what to believe, but he grew to hate the resistance for taking his parents form him, and he came to resent his parents for raising him in such a cruel and secretive world. One day when he was without a job, Mathew was exploring in one of the more abandoned parts of the city, he found an old underground vault. Inside, with all it's different treasures, Mathew found a means to bring peace to his life. Books. Hundreds, if not thouasands of them. He began to read voraciously, choosing books at random. Fiction, political, relgious, scientific, he read them all, slowly learning, growing, and developing an opinion of his own. These ideas gave Mathew peace. He came to the conclusion that both the resistance and the Bureau were wrong, and he came to forgive his parents. Now Mathew runs as a means of survival and income so he can pursue his true passion, learning.
