Karsey Lynnette Kane

Karsey rolled her suit cases behind her as she walked up to the huge, four story building. LA University. She was so excited to start a new life. This was a new chapter in her book of life. She would meet new people, and everyone from highschool, whom she still thought of to this very day, would no longer sit around in her mind. It would be in a file in her mind labeled: Past.
The only one who would remain in her life would be her older brother, Jamison, who just started college last year. He'd been in the same grade as Karsey throughout elementary school, junior high, and high school, but he started college last year.

She practically skipped into the building, and a lot of students were roaming around. She realized it must be their lunch break or study hall. Karsey looked around in hopes of seeing Jamison, but all the oxygen she had was suddenly taken from her when she saw the boy she'd fallen in love with all those years back, in sophomore year. The boy she still loved to this day. Joseph Wright. There he stood, at the front desk in the lobby of the university, recieving his schedule. He really hadn't changed one bit.

Karsey panicked, not wanting him to see her, so she looked away, in hopes of hiding her face, but then she saw at least three others that she recognized. Sophia Hartley, that total downer, the negative Nelly. The girl who despised Karsey for how "conceited" she is. And then there was Sophie Devero. That little flirtatious brat. Karsey hated her, and well, seeing here just made Karsey want to gag. But the one other person she saw was her old best friend. Chris Lightning.

"Chrissy!" She yelled out, running up to him, and she practically jumped into his arms. He was the one person she was actually excited to see.

Jamison looked around for a moment, in hopes of find his sister, and that's when he saw someone he hadn't expected to see. Lillian Androva. The bitchy, athletic girl from high school that he had a crush on. And then he looked around again, trying to find Karsey. Maybe finding Karsey was just a cover-up to keep from making eye-contact with Lillian. Then he saw someone else he hadn't seen since highschool. Maria Dunn. And then two people walked in through the entrance of the building. Jonathan Smithers, Jamison's old high school best friend and Ronan Walsh, the party animal, whom he thought was a bit too carefree, and then he heard someone yell, "Chrissy!" He turned around to see his little sister hugging the life out of Chris Lightning.

"Karsey!" Jamison grinned, and he walked over to her and Chris. He was sure all the shouting would attract most of the others that went to high school with them. They would surely recognize their voices, right?

Jamison pulled Karsey into a tight hug, and she quickly hugged him back, "I missed you Flynnie-boy!" she squealed happily.

Ronan had already placed his belongings in his room in the third floor with a great view to the court yard, and was oblivious to the geek's presence, almost bumping into him as they entered together. "Chris!" Ronan called out, and seeing Karsey as well, he laughed an evil laughter; "You too?" he said and looked her over while flinging his hand around his old pal's neck.

Things were finally starting to perk up. Lillian wore a pair of white capris and a orange tank top as she strolled down the hallways of LA University. For the past month, she had been on campus when it was still a ghost town. Bright and early, when the sun had yet to break over the horizon, she was out with with the team doing laps in the pool. Afternoon they had dry land, and typically ended the day with an evening endurance or sprint set. Though the days left her tired, dried, and chlorine smelling, she loved every minute of it. There was a certain semblance of pride swimming for the LA University Wolverines.

"Lilly!" The brunette turned and spotted one of her teammates waving at her. In a few seconds, she was by her side. "Finally getting some traffic in here! I love you girls, but variety's always nice."

Lillian snorted as she continued to make her way to the atrium where schedules were handed out. She made hers a few weeks ago; this was merely a formality of confirming the classes. "I couldn't agree more," she said. "First meet's coming up soon, Sam. Excited for it?"

The blonde smirked as she toyed with the cuff of her warm ups. "You got on the relay team! The 50 and the 100 freestyle individuals and anchor. Claire probably hates you."

"I was faster. I honestly could give two shits less about what she feels. You took Amy's breaststroke event from her. I think she thinks you're a bitch."

Sam laughed as the two entered the atrium. It was packed with incoming students. Strolling through the crowd, Lillian glared at a pair of first years who were clearly ogling her and Sam. It was something she had gotten used to given the attire swimmers wore. The damn things were a pain to get into as well.

"Anyways, Mike wanted to meet up for a bit. So, I'll leave you too it Ms. Androva! Don't get into too much trouble - attitude, girl! Oh, you going that frat party this weekend? One of the brothers has been begging me to get you to come. It'll be fun?"

"I'm sure I can find something better to do then fend off sex-crazed drunks."

"Lillian..."

"Get going before your boyfriend comes sniffling around for you. Oh, tell Mike to seriously consider changing his get up. LA's hardly a place for hick town flannels."

Lillian shrugged off Sam's defensive comment as she melded back into the crowd. She went up to the registration booth and gave the receptionist her student ID. When the thing was printed, she looked at the class schedule: Chemistry, Biology, Nutritional Sciences, and Literature. Solid schedule she thought to herself.

Turning back intending to go get some lunch, she caught sight of several very familiar faces. Her feelings were mixed. She felt happy yet reluctant at the same time.

Spotting Karsey and Jamison, a grin broke across her lips as she made her towards them. "I can't believe I have to deal with you bunch again," she said though amusement seeped through her words rather than contempt. "It's good to see you two! Really. Seen anyone else from high school?"

She looked at the others in the circle of 'friends' and nodded towards Chris and Ronan. Her grin turned into a smirk. "Now here are two faces I never thought I'd see again. Planning to throw some mad ragers Ronan?"

Air-headed as always when in crowded places, Ronan left his attention from Karsey to Lillian the moment she said his name, and he stepped back in a playful manner to join them all in the emerging circle. He made sure to have them all in his view when answering the sporty girl; "Of course! I've already come up with a plan to have the most awesomest party," he lowered his voice and hunched goofy close to them as if no one else but them to hear; "We gotta celebrate the starting year," straightening up his back and calling out higher he said; "Am I right? Chris! It'll be perfect," he finished looking suspiciously around; "but I can't speak more of it here." A foxy smirk appeared on his lips.

Chris looked up as he heard someone call his name and his eyes widened in surprise. "Karsey!" He smiled brightly and hugged her tightly as she jumped into his arms and laughed. He looked over at the whole ground and smiled. "Wow, don't tell me everyone from high school came here." Chris looked over at Ronan and laughed, still holding Karsey unconsciously. "Of course, you can bet I'll be there."

Karsey's eyes widened when she saw Lillian, and her smile brightened, "Hey Lilly!" she exclaimed, and she gave her a quick hug. Then she heard Joseph's voice, and she smiled even brighter.

She smiled when she saw Ronan, "Ron!" she grinned, giving him a hug.

"Joseph!" Karsey squealed, and she jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly. She buried her head in the crook of his neck, somthing she'd always done when she hugged him. She just found it to be quite comfortable when she rested her head there, "I missed you so much," she mumbled.

Karsey let go of Joseph, not wanting him to think she was strange for hugging him to long. She went back to hugging Chris. Even thought Joseph was her best friend ever, she really missed Chris too. They were constantly hanging out, and it just felt nice to be able to hug him right now.

Jamison smiled when he saw Lillian, and he pulled her into a hug, "Hey, Lil, how's it going?" he asked, using the nick name he'd given her.

He then noticed Maria, and he gave her a heart-warming smile. Jamison walked over to her, and he pulled her into a tight hug, "Maria," he said softly, "I didn't expect to see you here."

It felt nice to be reunited with all of his old friends, but seeing Maria was probably the best thing to happen to him all day.

Joseph smiled brightly and hugged Karsey back, happy to be with his old friends again. He glanced over at Chris and found him glaring at him, he quickly looked away and pretended he hadn't noticed. "So guys, how has everyone been?"

Ronan lifted his arms as if to shut everyone up; "Alright, alright listen up. I know we're all busy and all finding our nests today, but make sure to meet up at the library at eight o'clock tonight. I'm so happy to see ya'll again. All of you who ever know you are somebody," nodding at everyone of them with a reassuring look, he grinned at the end; "I gotta go to bizzmania and fix you all a little somethin' somethin'." He winked at Karsey and slapped Chris on his shoulder before waving to the other as he headed further inside the building towards the offices and storages.

Karsey looked at Ronan as he spoke. She frowned in confusion when he winked at her. Why would he wink at her?

She just shrugged off the thought, and she smiled at Chris, "Bye Chrissy!" she called out to him, and she walked to the office to get her schedule.

Karsey smiled kindly at the woman at the front desk.

"How may I help you?" the woman asked her in a rather bored tone.

"I need to get my schedule," Karsey smiled.

"What's your name?" the woman asked.

"Karsey Kane," she responded.

The woman looked through a few files, and she pulled out a piece of paper, giving Karsey her schedule and a key, "Here's your schedule, and a key to your dorm room. Your dorm room number is at the top of the paper."

"Thanks," Karsey smiled, and she skipped back over to the group. She looked at her schedule, and slipped the key in the pocket of her jean shorts, "Dorm room 206," she read aloud.

"Lillian, what dorm room do you have?" Karsey asked with a smile.

'Hey, if it isn't my favorite red head! No way you go here too,' Jonathon beamedonce Sophia was in front of him. 'Seems like everyone's going here. James is here, Karseys here... Lillians here.'

Sophia hadn't even heard half of what he said. She kept her attention focused on the commotion around her; Karsey, Chris, Joseph, Maria, Sophi, Lilian, and Ronan too? It was all too much. Within a few seconds, Sophia was wiping out her bottle of asprins. She shook the bottle until four, small pills dropped into her hands and she chugged all of them at once into her mouth. Before she retrieved the bottle of asprins, she caught sight of Jamison heading their way and she could've sworn her heart dropped immediately. He just so.. beautiful in a way that was indescribable. Sophia knew that boys weren't beautiful, but this particular boy was. And Sophia- without thinking- threw the bottle of asprin at Jonathon to get rid of before Jamison was standing no more than five feet in front of her. He seemed to ignore her, but those five feet meant something to her. 'Hey bro, what's up?' she heard him say to Johnathon. Hearing his voice had Sophia pinching herself to restrain from squealing. Afterwards, Jonathon had said something back that Sophia couldn't really comprehend until he mentioned he in the conversation. 'Uh, I was actually gonna start chatting with Sophia.' At that, Sophia swallowed- hard at the attention she was given that she nearly forgot the pills; now stuck in her throat. She muffled a cough. Two. The pills still wouldn't budge, so she stood there with her lips clasped together and her face growing flushing tomato red.

Lillian filled the spot Ronan made for as she joined the circle. She nodded in appreciation. Her smirk changed to a sincere grin. Ever since high school, the party guru had always been full of spunk. It was something she liked, though she was reluctant to admit it out loud. She was well aware of her reputation, and it really didn't matter to her one bit.

"Oh I'm sure you'll put the other frats to shame," she said with a hint of amusement. She remembered the party that Sam mentioned earlier - which she'd probably skip out on. For old time sake, however, she'd consider Ronan's.

"Hey Lilly!"

Before Lillian had a chance to respond in kind, she felt herself being embraced into Karsey's arms. She tensed slightly then relaxed. If it were anyone else, she would've probably have told them to piss off. She was physical with the one's that mattered; the one's that didn't, she demanded space.

"Well, it's good to see you too," she said again as she returned the hug. She glanced about and gave Jamison a sly smile.

"Hey, Lil, how's it going?"

"It's going well. glad to finally see some people. This place has been ghost town." She returned his hug as well. The hot, nerd of the school. She'd be lying if she said she still wasn't the least bit intrigued about him. They shared a similarity in the enjoyment of sci-fi. She was about to ask him what he thought about the new Frontier Trilogy - made from books to movies - but he was already moving away. She frowned slightly.

She didn't have time to dwell on her misgivings when Ronan called for attention. 8 PM at the library? She'd be coming straight from practice, but she could swing that.

"See you two," Lillian said as well as Chris and Ronan left. The circle suddenly felt smaller - figuratively and literally speaking of course.

Lillian hadn't even noticed Karsey walk off until she was asked what dorm room she was in. 206. Wasn't that what Karsey had said?

Lillian sighed and crossed her arms. "So you're my roommate then?" she asked with a hint of annoyance and excitement. It was a tone she had perfected. "I'm 206 as well, obviously. Jesus, who am I kidding? Karsey, this is the best news I've heard so far! I was so afraid I was going to get some stranger who was a creep or something. The university was going to room me with another swimmer, but I raised some hell and convinced them no. Can't deal with team drama. Did you get your class schedule? What're you taking? Maybe we might have something together?"

In the corner of her eye, she swore she saw Sophie Devero heading to the office to get her schedule and stuff. Though the others may not have liked her that much, she didn't have a problem with the girl - even if she did flirt with all the guys. Making a note to herself, she'd be sure to say hi soon.

The whole gang's here she thought to herself. Life was truly a small world after all.

Chris found his room, room 364. He knocked on the door and no one answered, he got out his key and unlocked the door. He looked around the fairly spacious room with two beds and shrugged. "Looks like this will work." He said to himself as he began to unpack.

Joseph looked around and shrugged, seeing as no one was really talking to him he decided to go and find his room. He walked away and looked down at the paper, at the top it read room 343.

The hallway in the third floor of the dorms were falling silent. The elevator and stairs were empty, but before the silent relaxation could hit the ground in hallway B containing room 320-370, the elevator dinged and the sliding doors let out a bunch of laughing young men excited for the tomorrow night's party. It had been carefully planned by Ronan for a long time, and a few other poor souls who couldn't resist the party animal's charisma when dragging them along on his schemes. With Ronan in the lead, they were now dragging two full beer barrels on a baggage trolley, making a ruckus in the hallway. Ronan's distinguished laugh and excited voice could easily be heard in between the other boys' as they were rolling the heavy drink past room 330, 331,332 etc, on their way to Ronan's room all the way down to door 366. "Alright shh, enough. The party isn't starting yet guys, shut up. Easy, focus now guys. Shut it." He ordered in between contradicting laughs and chuckles. It was like The Joker and his crazy clowns.

The thing was: Ronan had made to smuggle two ten liter barrels inside the school, and more was coming. His plan of having the party on the top floor's conference room of the administration, was almost complete. All he had to do left was to keep the administration unknown to the party until it was to start the night after, and make sure the janitor never realized one of the sets of keys to the whole school was missing. Keeping the snitchers uninvited and the janitor unaware of the top floor security, it'd be a great start of the school year, partying with style with the fancy conference room and top floor veranda. Fooling the authority was Ronan's favorite thing to do.

Chris was just putting the last of his clothes away in the dresser when he heard an all too familiar voice laughing and joking down the hall. He smirked and stepped out of his room just as Ronan passed his room. "Ron, what kind of trouble are you getting into now?" He asked in a friendly, joking fashion.

Laughing, Ronan stopped the trolley and headed over to Chris, making the other guys who didn't know Chris place all of their innocent eyes at the blonde in puzzlement. A little disappointed that Ronan seemed to give more acknowledge to this newcomer and stopping their ship of beer, they waited patiently. Ronan whispered to Chris "I got twenty liters of beer, man. I am placing it on my room until tomorrow. It's gonna be a party at the top floor. Tell the others about it," a sudden dead serious face he put on while deepening his voice; "No snitchers..." and scowled, though a small twitch of glee lurked in the back of his mask.

"Yeah?" Ronan's face brightened and he grinned, slapping Chris on his shoulder; "Great to see you again, buddy," and he hopped off to continue the sailing barrels of beer with his worshipers. "I guess we are who we are for
a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never
know most of them. But even if we
don't have the power to choose where we
come from, we can still choose where we go from there."

"Holy crap," Sophia muttered to herself once she stepped through the doors of the South wing library. She looked around and saw that students were piled everywhere, literally the whole staff and students were in the library; EVERYONE. All she wanted was a day to herself, with a book in her hands, in peace, relaxation; however, everyone just so happen to come at the library on the same exact day because of something called a 'Meet N' Greet' the announcements had fully announced no more than two, maybe three, minutes ago. "Excuse me, pardon me. Excuse me." she said as she eased her way through the crowd. "Hi! My name is Becky Quin, and I'm a senior." Suddenly, a blonde chick stepped up in front of Sophia nearly knocking her off her feet, a hand outstretched as if she wanted a nice hand shake. Sophia took her hand, unwillingly, and smiled convincingly. "Hi! my name's Sophia Hartley, and I'm slightly irritated at the moment." She told her matching the same, annoying high-pitched voice as Becky. The girl only giggle hysterically and threw her arms around Sophia and held her tight nearly suffocating the small girl. "You're so adorable! Wanna join the cheer squad?"

"Yeahh..no. I'm sorry, but I think I see my friends over there." she lied, releasing the girl's strong grip and walked over to the Fiction section of books. She'd just have to ignore the people surrounding her.

Ronan had been squeezing his way through the crowd finding it hard to give messages around to the right people. He figured no one were in the Fiction section at this hour and thought he'd manage to move easier across the room through there, but suddenly a shorter frame of a delicate woman was in his way as he rounded a shelf; "Hey," realizing the familiar face he brightened up; "Woa, you!" he stared at her trying to place her in his memory.
