Description

Image
Alias: Adrian Wells

Age: 23

Pendent: [Princesses only, these are stones. Once a stone is taken, you have to pick another]

Hex Code: #30660C

Personality: Richard is a cunning and charming man. He's sly as a fox and can get himself out of any situation. This was true even when he was a kid. He was able to hide himself into the most unlikeliest places, driving the servants that worked in the palace nuts. He always had great vision and became proficient at the bow at a very young age. As the queen's spy, he is very good at putting on 'different' masks. Any lying he does he believes he's doing for the greater good. Definitely a free spirit also for he hates being indoors and even prefers to sleep outside. He's also proficient in other types of combat like swords and daggers.

History: Richard has very little memory of his life, but believes he's always served the queen, but recently has started questioning if his past actions have caused more harm than good because he was always under the impression that his spy skills were being used to help the people, not hurt them. The only people he assassinates are those he believes threaten the Queen's life or a threat to Rhindeval. He believes his parents abandon him and it was the Queen who saved him, not realizing she was the one who killed his parents. After all it was his birthday party that Ivelda crashed. He actually managed to hurt to the evil sorceress before she took him out. Ivelda used his abilities and made him a spy for a reason. It's his palace that she now resides in due to it's central location in Rhindeval. She sends him out on missions frequently to help prevent him from remembering. Of course with all the princes, she regularly recasts the spells that keeps their memory at bay and loyal to her.

So begins...

Ivelda Evers
Code-#003300

Ivelda, otherwise known as The Queen, stood in front of a long mirror, admiring herself.

"Beautiful, simply stunning! Don't you agree?" she asked a random servant behind her.

"Indeed, your majesty. No one is a fair as you." the old servant said.

Of course, he really didn't think so, but he wasn't bound to say that for servants had had been killed for insulting the queen.

"I am glad you think so. So, tell me, any news about Adrian?"

"Yes, your majesty, he's been seen crossing the border into Lostein this morning."

"Wonderful. Let's hope he took care of our little pest problem. Now, will you please go check on my other boys? Report back when you're done.

The servant bowed and left the throne room. He would send out different servants to check on the queens' 'boys'.

Ivelda herself went back to her throne and sat down. Life couldn't be better for her, and she made sure that life would stay that way.

Adrian Wells
Code-#30660C

Another mission accomplished, Adrian thought as he rode on one of his favorite horses, a huge brown stallion named Little John. He was galloping through a dense forest and soon came upon a clearing. From the clearing, he got a beautiful view of the Queen's palace, which was surrounded by a lake. Something about the view always warmed Adrian's heart. While his own home was a ways from the palace, he could never quell the voice inside him that this was home. Knowing the queen was expecting his report, he snapped out of his reverie and road down towards the road that would lead to the bridge of the palace.

Making sure his horse was taken care of, Adrian headed straight for the throne room. Knocking on the door, he waited for the queen to let him enter. Once she did, he came in and knelt before her.

"Nice to see you back safely, Adrian, now report."

"Just as you have ordered, Lord Conrad is no longer an issue. All of his land has been confiscated and his family arrested."

Lord Conrad had been secretly helping rebels, so the Queen had ordered Adrian to do something about it. His family was still alive, but Adrian himself had seen to Conrad. What Adrian hadn't told her was how tough this job had been on him emotionally. Conrad had been very loyal to the queen, so it was a shock to learn he had been supporting rebels. Now he had lost everything.

"That's my boy! I am very pleased with your work Adrian. Just wait here for a minute and I shall retrieve you your reward."

Ivelda goes to the nearby chamber connected to the throne room. Everyone in the kingdom knew that the Queen was also a sorceress, and this chamber reflected that fact with all of its potions and a huge cauldron. Ivelda started mixing a few potions in a small bowl before pouring it into a goblet. Soon she returned to where Adrian was.

"Here you go. Now drink up," the queen offered Adrian.

Not even daring to object, Adrian drank it up. The effect was immediate. His eyes darken and look at the queen with a blank face. Smiling, Ivelda came forward and kissed his cheeks. What Adrian did not know was that the drink was one of the ways Ivelda kept him under her control and to keep him from remembering his true name.

"You are dismissed now Adrian. You are free to return home for a while. You've earned a break."

Adrian shook his head. What just happened? He then recalled his queen's words.

"Thank you your majesty. Just call if you need anything."

Bowing, he took his leave of her.

”The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”

The early morning rays shone brightly through the slotted windows etched into the castle walls, glinting mesmerizingly off of the slightly-pink tips of hair peeking out ever-so-slightly from the top of the covers that hid a mound on the single bed that sat within the room that one were to look upon. The mound stirred, followed by a small, muffled sound of annoyance, and for the briefest of moments the pink tips disappeared before reappearing again, followed by the rest of the light orange tufts attached to them. This also revealed a boyishly charming face and large, interesting eyes, mixed with hues of both green and orange, that were currently blinking blearily against the morning light that filtered so brightly into the young man’s eyes. Lifting a hand, he rubbed at his left eye and yawned slightly, adding to the boyish charm that was already held within his features, and then stretched in such a way that an onlooker would be reminded of that of a cat.

Scratching his lower back, he threw back the covers and moved his legs over the side of the bed, shivering slightly as the room temperature hit his bare skin, goosebumps and hairs rising at the sudden change from warmth to chill. As he rose, he stretched once more, lithely, letting out a soft groan as he did so, his bones cracking slightly in the process, before he sighed and relaxed, dropping his arms once more to his sides and scratching his back again. It didn’t take him long to dress, ensuring to don his ever-present broadsword in its sheath at his hip, and with a quick splash of men’s perfume and an equally swift brush of his teeth and hair, the young man retrieved his shoulder bag, slipped it over his head, and easily made his way from his room.

This routine was not an uncommon one for young Ryder Veldine; in fact, this was quite literally his daily routine. Unless his Queen requested otherwise, he was generally awake with the early sun’s rays, readied fairly quickly, saw to any business that required his attention, and was outside of her chamber doors ready to assist her as soon as she awoke as well. ‘Tis the requirement of the Queen’s Royal Advisor, he presumed. En route to the kitchens portion of the castle, he detoured slightly to make a stop by the royal accountant's offices and have a brief word with the older gentleman who handled the finances in there, simply to go over the papers that Ryder had submitted the day before. After ensuring that everything had been in order and nothing was out of place in his calculations, he accepted the finalized reports from the accountant, gave him a respectful bow, slipped the reports into his bag, and retreated from the man's office. Making one last deviation in his route, Ryder slipped into the royal library, his chin dipping ever-so-slightly in greetings to the librarian currently organizing a stack of books. They nodded absentmindedly in return, clearly more than accustomed to his presence in that room, not missing even a single beat in their movements as they did so. It was quick work for him to retrieve the book from his bag and return it to its proper place on the fifth shelf up, the third row down, only to snag a new book from the second shelf up in the same row. Scrawled neatly across the leather front of it were the words Quae astris praesentiuntur Astronomia, and with a satisfied smile, he slipped it into his bag and made his way easily from the library, his little side trips complete.

Stopping by the kitchens along the way to retrieve his breakfast, as well as the maid who was to deliver Queen’s afternoon tea, Ryder nodded hello to the cooks. He noted with piqued interest that there was a new face in the kitchen, and reminded himself to ask the Queen about the new staff member later. He nibbled on his bread and mutton as he walked, giving a slight tilt of the head in greeting to servants as he passed them in the large halls of the castle on his pathing to the Queen’s throne. The maid did not attempt to chat with him, as she was well accustomed to not only his own personally quiet nature but also the kingdom as a whole’s tendency to no speak to many of the men who were in service to the Queen - something that someone as astute as he had not failed to miss. Why this was so, however, he hadn’t a clue.

As Ryder walked, he reviewed the previous day's events in his head, in case his Queen was to inquire what he had accomplished, although he had already given her his reports before retiring for the evening before.

The day had been a simple one, as the tasks that his Queen had entrusted to him had been few and easily done, and his job generally entailed advising the Queen when she requested his input on situations as she seemed to value his opinion given his educational background. However, he did frequently offer to assist her with other tasks, in an effort to lighten the load on her shoulders, and would often be seen out and about performing duties on her behalf that she either did not have the time or the inclination herself to do.

Ryder had been sent to the local orphanage to gather documents on their current orphans, for what the Queen explained was an effort to find homes for the children in need. He then was sent to collect taxes from the shops in the northern shopping district of the city, followed by delivering the monthly royal donations to each church that was currently within city limits. Following that, he was to document all funds that were transferred between the shops, his hands, the castle, and the church, and submit these all to the royal account for filing, before reporting the final profit directly to the Queen herself.

Polishing off the last bite of bread and mutton, Ryder took a swig of water from his canteen on his hip opposite his sword, cleared his throat, and paused outside of the Queen’s throne room alongside the maid as well as the two ever-present guards who stood on each side of the large, ornately designed doors. Jerking his chin up a bit in greeting to them - it was clear that he was a man of few words, and this was a common way for him to say hello - he leaned slightly to the side to listen, noting that he could hear the slightly muffled voices of the Queen and who he immediately recognized as Sir Adrian Wells. It was obvious that they were still deep into discussion, so he straightened once more, hands clasped behind his back, and prepared to wait until she had finished and beckoned him inside.

It was around five minutes later that he heard the approaching footsteps of a man and the doors to the great hall were pushed open. Eyes briefly meeting Sir Wells’, he noted the man’s strained features, and although he was known for being more so the stoic type, perhaps equal in seriousness to Ryder at times, it was rare to see him under such duress. He would have to ask one of his Birds what had happened; they always knew. Brushing the thought aside and turning his focus back to the now-open doors, he smoothed back his hair in an attempt to somewhat tidy the mess that it always was and made his way inside, a small smile on his face - as large of a smile that really anyone could get out of him anymore, other than his books. He strode directly towards Ivelda, immediately dropping to one knee before her and taking her hand with his, his other arm behind his back, and gently placed his lips to her fingers.

”My beautiful Queen; as always, it is a glorious morning that I am truly blessed to be given the opportunity to awaken and arise, to immediately see your beautiful and youthful face,” he practically purred, his voice dripping like fresh honey on honeycomb. Finally turning his soft, unique gaze up to hers, that small, impish smile remained on his lips as he rose to his full height before her, only to bow forward at the hips, one arm cast out at his side and the other folded around his hips. ”I come with one of the servants, bearing your morning tea. Please, drink and be nourished, as the kingdom requires you to remain strong and healthy in order to lead and prosper.”

Straightening once more, Ryder stepped slightly to the side to allow the maid access to the Queen and the desk that she was to eat her breakfast at. As she approached, Ryder kept a watchful eye on her, his gaze wary and alert, yet his stature giving off the appearance of someone relaxed and unprepared. The girl, no older than possibly thirteen or fourteen years old, set the food down, clearly too fearful to even raise her gaze and look at the Queen, cast a dutiful yet quick curtsy in regards to the higher up, before quickly scurrying from the large chambers.

After watching her leaving and ensuring the doors shut behind her, Ryder returned his gaze to his Queen as she lifted her tea. He studied her as she sipped at it, admiring her ethereal beauty, before he averted his gaze. He stood at her side, as per his norm, awaiting any orders or anything she should wish of him.

For Aetherius, the scent of the sea was the scent of freedom. Therefore, the scent of the ports was the scent of shackles and cages, a suffocating imprisonment under Ivelda's watchful eyes, where she could breathe down his neck if she felt so inclined, where the rest of his fellow "coworkers" usually stayed along with her. He hadn't been particularly fond of most of them, perhaps thanks to the fact that he was really never around enough to get to know them before he was off on his next sailing trip for a couple months, out of watchful eyes and leashing commands. Sure, there were still rules to follow out on the ocean's waters, but with no one there to enforce them, it practically gave him lawless reign, just as he liked it.

The ship jolts lightly as it settles into the shallow, quieter waters at Lostein's ports, anchors slowly settling into the reeking mud and filth that most these sort of docking areas held. Only the bottom feeding fish remained here, eating away trash and tasteless plants that could barely sprout in the unhealthy waters, and their stench only made it worse. It smelled nothing of the fresh, salty breeze that he loved in the freedom of his sea, and silently he was grateful that stops here only lasted a short while, a couple days, maybe a week or two before he was back out to his endless stretch of blue.

Things settle in, his (or, truthfully, his queen's, but he felt like he deserved some control and name over them) fleet of ships docked and resting in the pier. The noise of the city reaches their docks soon enough once the creaking and groaning wood settles, chatter and regular hustle and bustle of the streets, animals and marketplaces. He doesn't feel much for the sounds, not beyond the faint hint of smithy work, but even that feels too distant to bring any comfort as the soothing sway of his ship slowly disappears. They were truly docked now, and the shackles were locked around his wrists and ankles. Something unpleasant rises in his throat, but he swallows it hard, makes his way for the board that gives the crew a way off the deck and boat, down to the city streets below.

Pausing as he took his first steps onto it, a glance back to his crew shows them all staring at him. A click of his tongue and a laugh, and he throws his hands up in a shrugging gesture, "if you do your work like you're supposed to, who am I to tell you what you can and can't do while we stay here? Get your asses into gear and you can have as much playtime as you want!" Cheers erupt from the deck as the crew scurries to finish what they can as soon as possible, and he waves a hand backwards, "I'll see you bastards at the taverns tonight, don't start too many fights without me, I'll need some of the actions for my nerves!"

Down to the streets he goes, glancing around the area as regular fishermen and sailors not apart of his fleet flit about, gathering their supplies for the day and avoiding him and his men as much as they can. Who wouldn't, really? Even for sailors they were rowdy, uncontrollable, and they stirred up trouble no matter where they went. Sorry, miss Ivelda, he really does what he can to keep them under control, he promises! At least he only has good news to report practically every time he returns. No one dared to face them, and those that did were laying in their deep graves, food for the fish.

Uneasiness still pokes at him, though, even as he tries to calm himself with the internal banter and shit talk he'd never mutter a word out loud to Ivelda. Something about every visit with the woman left him in a haze, nauseated, for weeks afterwards, gave him migraines and internal conflict that he could never solve, haunt him with nightmares of a tiny girl's scream that was so familiar, at the tip of his tongue, but when he looked to her face, there was nothing there.

A hand lands on his shoulder then, and in a swift move he has it in his grip, tightening as he turned around. At first he'd expected some sailor trying to look for a place to lay complaints over the noise already being caused by his busy workers, but instead it was one of his own. Glare softening quickly, he rolled his eyes, faint grin flashing straight white teeth in the direction of the lycanthrope that had put his free hand up in retreat. "Come on captain, don't break this poor sailor's wrist again, it just healed!" Ash's "plea" for mercy was met with Aetherius's grip loosening and dropping back down to his side. "Didn't mean ta scare ya bossman, just wanted to exchange a couple words before you're behind bars at the palace again." A shake of his wrist as he spoke with a half joking accent and slur, Ash's gaze glanced around the, before his head was tilting, pointed ears flitting slightly with the breeze and sounds. Aetherius's gaze remained for a moment, before arms crossed over his chest, puffing out slightly, "and? Out with it, our queen doesn't like when I'm late."

Ash's gaze flittered away for a moment there, a hand moving to rub the back of his head, only messing his disaster hair further. "Not meaning any offense, just wanted to offer. Need me to tag along with you for extra backup to the queen? You know, just so you don't feel like you're trapped alone. I know you hate goin', and well...none of us like to see how you get after it, so..."

"Mm? Saying I'm shit after my visits with the queen, huh? Really looking to be thrown into the port's swamp, I see." It's entirely playful; truly, the offer means a lot to him, but there was no way he'd ever let any of them accompany him through those halls, "offer's generous, Ash, but don't worry about it. You keep watch over the others while I'm away, and I'll join you for a drink tonight, hm? Now get off my back before you slow me down any longer, or I'll blame you if she's angry at my arrival." Ash's ears only drooped faintly, tail's wag slowing to a halt as he rolled his eyes and let his head fall back toward the sky, "don't say I didn't try, then! Good luck, Aetherius, don't get your ass kicked too hard." A light smack to the back of the wolf's head, and Aetherius turns his way back to the palace, a middle finger extended towards the man in mocking, "I'm more than capable of dealing with those piss boy servants and our queen!" Is all that's left for the docks to hear, and he's on his way.

As always, entry is easy for him and his status, slipping in through the gardens even with all the loathing stares he got from the lower ranking servants and guards, but he's not even allowed peace and quiet before a familiar voice pricks his ears.

"Aetherius, you've arrived?" Jiayi's soft, airy tone is unforgettable, and his gaze turns back to the elegantly dressed man sitting on one of the garden's benches nearby, gently shutting a book in his hands. Donning the hanfu he always wore during his downtime, he stood up from his spot, the airy material flowing softly with the movement and breeze. "I assume you're making your way to her majesty's chambers? Care to allow me to join you?"

He chokes back a groan at the other male's request, before letting out a soft sigh and nodding, "of course, how could I turn down my little junior's request, hm? Hurry up, before she yells at us both." Jiayi is quickly making his way to his side then, hands placed over his front as he makes pace with Aetherius's more heavy footed steps. "Have you been well?" Comes the other's first attempt at conversation, and he glances down to the shorter man, giving a shrug, "as long as I'm at sea, I'm always well. It's only here that I'm not." He mutters the last part, though he's sure Jiayi hears it loud and clear, watching his brows furrow slightly.

"It would be nice to see you here more, you know." Is all he says, and all Aetherius does in return is roll his eyes and pinch the bridge of his nose. They both knew he would rather die than visit more than required.

Making their way through the halls, it's not long before they come across the first familiar face, Adrian Wells. His head of bright red hair was unmistakeable, and Valken's gaze stays on him for a moment before Jiayi speaks up from the side, a slightly cheerful, "Hello, Adrian. Welcome back." Leaving him, before he returned to his straight posture with his hands behind his back. A small sway to his steps appeared with his pace now, comfortable and airy; he seemed content that so many of them were gathered here now.

The rest of the walk is mostly quiet, and he does his best to relish in the peace of it before the doors of the chambers catch his eyes, the bad taste on his tongue returning all too quickly. Jiayi spares him a glance as his face twists slightly, but as it settles he returns the concerned look to the ground, and then in front of himself. "Her Majesty seemed to be in a good mood today, so perhaps your meeting with her won't be so bad. Keep your mouth clean, though." He clicked his tongue at the words, heaving out a sigh before pressing his hand against the doors and letting them open, allowing the two of them to move in.

In comparison to Jiayi, he looks far from regal and composed; half slouching, keeping his steps the same, letting his gaze wander and letting himself act as he normally does around the palace. The woman should be used to his almost disrespectful manner by now, and he doesn't care to change it up. Glancing around the room does give him a view of the other in the room: Ryder, and oh so fortunately for him, he's arrived just in time to hear the latter man's gag worthy words and compliments. The bitter taste in his mouth grows, watching him suck up to the woman, but truthfully, who didn't a little at this point? At least enough for their safety. He'd quite frankly never allow himself to drop to the blondie's level, though.

Jiayi is already kneeling in respect for the woman, and he finally brings himself to do the same, falling carelessly onto one while using the other to rest his forearm on, head dipping low towards his queen, "Your Majesty," he says, raising his voice so the words come out clear and crisp, "I've returned from Rhindeval's seas, on time as you had requested. We didn't encounter much trouble these past months, but any who tried have been buried in the waters. A small island was discovered as well, though it is uninhabited and there's nothing of value in its sparse lands."

Something about a free day truly made his entire week. They were rare, when he was always so close under Ivelda and her control, her watch, and when he was in need within the ranks of the royal guard so often. Usually his downtime time was only nights for rest, when he got those too anyway. To be able to sit quietly in the gardens, read one of the books he'd gotten his hands on, just listen to the sounds of the birds and feel the soft breeze through his hanfu. No responsibilities, no risk of fights, no need to be on edge or uneasy in the face of his work and protecting Her Majesty.

This wasn't to say his work was horrible. Certainly, he could be stuck under the inescapable sun or horrid storms out at sea like Aetherius. He could be stuck spying on and picking off traitors like Adrian. Or...he could be...where Alcinder was, doing...what he did. Maybe Haru's job wouldn't be so bad, but he still wasn't sure what exactly his fellow servant did, and it had gone over his head when he'd tried to figure it out. Alchemy? Not for Jiayi. He'd stick to protecting and patrols, and then reading when possible. A much more peaceful life.

Flipping another page in his book, his ears caught the sounds drifting over, carried by the wind from the city below. Regular bustling, but noises from the docks seemed to be growing louder, and a glance up to the sky with closed eyes let him draw out from his book to think. Today...Aetherius was due back, wasn't he? And news of Adrian returning was in the air as well, or so he'd heard. A soft smile graced Jiayi's lips for a moment, a content hum leaving him. Perhaps they would enjoy sitting around for dinner together later?

A laugh breaks him from his thoughts then, smile turning somewhat melancholy for a moment. Of course not, his mind whispered, you may enjoy their company, but they rarely get along with each other, with you half the time too. You should know better, Jiayi. Truly he does, but he can't help the wishful thinking, the lingering hopes. His dinners were often spent alone or guarding his queen, making sure nothing was poisoned or tampered with. It would likely stay that way for years to come, too. I'm lucky the queen allows in the room to watch over meals, anyway. It's the only time I'm not entirely alone, isn't it?

Strands of hair slip over his shoulder and down into his lap, and Jiayi looks down at them with a small sigh. Nothing to worry about, nothing to think about, just enjoy the quiet time with the relaxed nerves and low caution.

The quiet remains for quite some time, pages continuing to turn and flutter in the wind as he read along, but soon there's the hushed whispers and distasteful tone held by the servants wandering and caring for the flowers, and his gaze slowly raises.

"The bastard is back, even after causing such chaos when he last left." "Why hasn't the queen tired of him and his crew yet? They should just freeze to death in the cold of Typhcrest's waters if she won't be rid of them." "Does he have no shame? He'll probably just create more work for us servants before his stay is over."

He wasn't sure anyone else would gather such irritated words from the lowly servants, and with a newly warmed smile, he watched as the taller, intimidating man made his way through the green grasses and rainbow-shaded flower bushes of the gardens, gaze as irritable and grumpy as always. He knew Aetherius wouldn't want to see him, talk to him, let alone walk with him, but still he parted his lips, his book gently closing in his hands without so much of a sound, "Aetherius, you've arrived?" Blue eyes turn to meet his golden ones, and he tilts his head slightly before setting his book aside on the marble bench. "I assume you're making your way to her majesty's chambers? Care to allow me to join you?"

Jiayi can see the man choke back a groan, eyebrows twitching downwards as his lips follow a similar direction, but he keeps his composure while he does, expectantly awaiting an answer from him. Finally, he breaks and nods, letting out the building tension with his words, "of course, how could I turn down my little junior's request, hm? Hurry up, before she yells at us both." His smile turns a little strained at the final words; Aetherius certainly knew how to hit something that would really make him pick up his pace. The last thing he wanted was to try and endure one of Her Majesty's fits of rage.

Silence falls again, as it always does with Aetherius in presence, and while Jiayi doesn't mind quiet walks with company, it's not every day that he gets to be accompanied by the other man. Why would he waste the opportunity to talk when he probably wouldn't see him again for another several months? Using up the little time he had was the wisest thing he could do to get his fill of interaction here.

"Have you been well?" It's his first attempt, and he looks up to him as he speaks, soft hope that he wouldn't respond as sarcastically and vulgar as he normally did when they spoke together. It's a genuine question anyway, after having not seen him in so long, with only rare news of their travels and business out on the waters of Rhindeval. Finally, Aetherius looks down to him, offering a lazy shrug, "as long as I'm at sea, I'm always well. It's only here that I'm not." His last words burn the brand stick into his chest, and his brows furrow slightly, gaze turning down as he chewed at his lip lightly. Of course. He knew that the captain had no desire to ever be near Lostein or any of the servants, the queen, that resided here. Still, it pricks at his heart a bit.

"...it would be nice to see you here more, you know." The words come out low, quiet, and he knows that the other doesn't care for what Jiayi thinks would be nice, for what he might like. It only confirms as he rolls his eyes, and a soft breath leaves him at that movement and response. Of course not, don't be so foolish.

The walk continues, just as quiet as before, and he doesn't try and stimulate more conversation for the time being. The man had been kind enough so far, not too many harsh responses, and he didn't want to push his luck quite yet. Still, his tongue feels restless, but as they pass through a hall it finds its release in the sight of Adrian making his way back from Ivelda's chambers. A slightly brighter expression crosses his face as he leans forward towards the red haired man, smile returning, "Hello, Adrian. Welcome back." Would the other man stay for long? Probably not if he had the past stays to go off of, but for now it made him happy to see two rarer faces within the cold, lonely halls of the palace.

The rest of the walk is silent up until they spot the doors ahead. A slight picking sensation to his shoulder brings his gaze up only in time to see Aetherius's expression twisting with faint disgust, and a concerned look comes over his face at the sight. Was he planning on entering with that sort of look? Ivelda would definitely not let him off, he should know better than that!

Sucking in a short breath, he tries to compose himself again before speaking, a little more suggestive than just mentioning the woman's mood, "Her Majesty seemed to be in a good mood today, so perhaps your meeting with her won't be so bad. Keep your mouth clean, though." Please, wipe that look off your face, unless you want to be lashed at! The words are received with the click of a tongue, but the expression settles again, and Jiayi lets out a silent breath of relief. He was fully convinced that the man had a death wish, acted in such a way that of course he'd receive punishment from their queen, but that didn't make it anymore pleasant to see or hear when he received it. Only a sadist would derive joy from something like that...

Finally the doors are pushed open, the air from the inner chambers rushing out as its released, and Jiayi follows the other man inside, close behind him. They're in her halls, and he can hear Ryder's voice as he speaks to their queen, as flattering as ever. The closer they approach, the more Aetherius underperforms in front of all of them, letting himself slouch and his gaze wander, and Jiayi grits his teeth slightly at the sight, but still he kneels before the woman, much longer before the man does, and closer to the blonde that had been speaking before. Another of his faintly warm smiles makes his way over to him from his kneeling position on the floor, a silent form of hello before his head is back to dipping down to Ivelda in respect as Aetherius finally kneels himself and gives his typical report. Truly, he didn't have much to report to her himself, but he was due for a direct visit anyway, for that almost monthly drink and her words. Don't question, just obey, as you always have.

Adrian Wells
Code-#30660C

When Adrian left the throne room, he immediately saw Sir Ryder heading in his direction. Adrian himself wasn't feel too social, but he did nod towards the queen's advisor. Right now Adrian was starving so he started walking faster, but soon saw two other of Ivelda's men; one being the head of her naval fleet, Captain Aetherius and a member of the Royal Guard Sir Jiayi. The two couldn't be anymore different in both mannerisms and appearance. Aetherius was very rugged, muscular, and seemed to be in a bad mood most of the time. However, Adrian had sailed with him once for a mission to the Emerald Isles, so he saw a much more 'cordial' man and it was obvious he preferred the open sea then the land. Adrian loved traveling too, so he could relate to the man in that aspect. Jiaya was way more easy-going and refined. However he was not one to be underestimated. For a time when Adrian was being trained in the ways of the sword, he often found himself being paired against Jiaya and he was definitely the superior swordsman, at least when it came to straight up swordplay. Adrian though had to learn how to play dirty in order to get his job done. It was something he wish he didn't have to do, but he tolerated it since in the end it was for the good of the kingdom. Still he was relieved he wouldn't have any missions for the foreseeable future, at least he hoped.

As he approached the pair, who were also heading for the throne room, Jiayi casually greeted him and Adrian grinned and waved at him as he passed the pair.

After leaving the palace, he headed for the stables to get his horse, Little John. Leaving the palace grounds all together, he headed into town to get something to eat. Something about this place always seemed to affect him, but he couldn't figure out why. After arriving in town, he left his horse at an inn's nearby stable. The inn itself always had good food. Going in, he made his way to the bar.

"Good morning, Adrian. Hadn't seen you in some time." the barkeep, James, said with a sad smile on his face.

The man had been there since Adrian could remember. Adrian's earliest memory had been when he was 10 and learned that Queen Ivelda had saved him after his parents were killed. It had been this inn he initially stayed at until he was old enough to move out on his own, which was when he was 16. This inn was like a 2nd home to him, and the barkeep and his wife were like parents to him. However, they always looked to have permanent sad looks. He asked why once, and they told him they lost their children a long time ago. What Adrian didn't know was that Ivelda killed them because the townsfolk had tried saving him and the other princes initially after the takeover. Ivelda had killed their children to make an example to those who would oppose her.

"Yes, I just got done with another mission, James. It took a while to complete. I am starved so could you ring me up some food please?"

The barkeep sighed. Pretty much everyone in the town knew that "Adrian" was their beloved Prince Richard and had been brainwashed by Ivelda. He hoped that someday he would remember. While the idea of rebellion was hardly ever whispered, James knew everyone hoped that the Sorceress Lilith and other princesses of Rhindeval would come back and help set things right. Rumor had been Ivelda banished them to a parallel world. Many people though were quickly losing hope, but James and his wife would never give up that hope.

"I'll have it right up for you Adrian. It's good to see you."

After eating, Adrian went to retrieve his horse and soon left for home.

As soon as Adrian left, Ivelda saw her advisor come in. Ryder, originally Prince Apollyon, was indispensable to Ivelda. She had been smart to raise him to be in the position in he was now. When she had captured him, his twin sister, and the other royal children, the blonde hair boy kept his wits about him. Only time she saw him loose control was when he was separated from his sister. Briefly, Ivelda thought of the princesses and her younger sister, Lilith. One major reason why she decided to keep the boys over the girls was because she simply preferred them. Also, she knew the children would be stronger together than apart.
So best to keep them separated. It would have been easier to kill the girls and Lilith, but Ivelda felt a tiny bit of pity, enough to not go through with that plan and instead banish them.

Her thoughts were interrupted when Ryder greeted her. Oh yes, keeping the princes was definitely the better option. She would have complimented him, but the doors opened again to reveal two more of her princes, Captain Aetherius, formally Prince Valken, and Sir Jiayi, formerly Prince Xiaoli, coming into the room. Delighted, Ivelda waited for Aetherius to finish before replying herself.

"Thank you for your report Aetherius. I can see you're just as pleasant as the last time you reported. I already another job for you, but that can wait for tomorrow to give you a chance to rest. So, Sir Jiayi, do you have anything to report?"

After he did, Ivelda addressed all three men in the room.

"Since all three of you are here, I think I'll give you three my special drink now. Stay here and I'll be right back."

Unbeknownst to her though, Iris was there in her pixie form and was relieved to know Ivelda was giving the princes that awful potion that kept them loyal to her. Making sure to be extra careful, Iris slipped in when Ivelda opened the door to room. As Ivelda made the potion, Iris was able to memorise the ingredients and their amounts. When Ivelda was done, she put the three drinks on a tray and magically levitated it front of her, blissfully unaware of Iris's actions as the fairy left the room too before the door was closed and locked. Approaching the trio, Ivelda offered each of them a goblet.

Ivelda listened as Alcinder made his report. She honestly couldn't blame the rebels still supported the 'rightful heirs'. Oh the irony that she turned their princes against them. It was funny when she thought about it but kept her neutral face in place the entire time. As for the princesses, she hoped they never returned as well as her sister, Lilith. Her sister had put up a good fight but did prove to still be the weakest magic wise between her and their late youngest sister, Vanessa.

When Alcinder finished her report, Ivelda replied, "Great work, Alcinder. I'll make sure to pass this news along to my overseers in the kingdoms these rebels came from. Hopefully this will lead us to finding the bigger pests for they must be dealt with as soon as possible."

Suddenly the doors opened and Ryder and Jiayi came through them. Ivelda's eyes focused on the two men and it was Ryder who addressed her first, letting her know about her little birds and the things he came across. Ivelda sighed and rubbed her temples a bit. That Vordada was very loyal, came highly recommended from one of her overseers, but his antics had been causing her troubles in the past year or two. She couldn't blame him for his lust for power, but how he used it was not smart and she couldn't afford for him to keep up these acts, especially if they exposed something more vital to her, like her little birds. She actually had already had one or two replacements ready, so it was relief to know she could finally call one up.

"Thank you for reporting this to me Ryder and I thank you for assisting him Jiayi. Alcinder, you have my full permission to deal with Vordada in whatever way you deem fitting. Ryder, I need you to contact the following people and send them to me after lunch, the head builder, Guilder Rosenthal, and Priest Andross. As for a new headmistress, I agree with that decision. Have her fired and I'll leave it to you to find a suitable replacement since you're more familiar with the staff there."

Soon the three men left and Ivelda herself soon left to get ready for the sacrifice. The process of it was easy enough. The girl was quick to put under her spell and after draining her 'essence', she drank it before disposing the girl's body. The effect of the sacrifice was immediate and Ivelda felt rejuvenated. After cleaning up, she went about her business for the rest of the day, including on making plans to refurbish the orphanage and promoting Andross.

After having the best night's sleep he had in weeks, Adrian woke up early. Getting out of bed, he walked downstairs to go hunting and catch his breakfast. His own place was pretty small and even though he did hire someone to keep his place cleaned, he was capable of taking care of himself. After catching himself a rabbit, he soon took care of it and grabbing himself some bread and milk (courtesy of his neighbor that owned a goat farm), he ate. He thought about what he would do. Well he better take care of his estate matters. He still owned some land and that meant dealing with paperwork, something he wasn't looking forward to. After that, he promised himself he would do something for fun.

No one else had anymore questions so Lilith let the princesses go on their ways, but did invite them to stay and to hear more stories about Rhindeval. Both Aurora and Cassie stayed for a bit before leaving. They had a lot on their minds.

After a long day at the festival, Aurora went to her dorm and went straight to bed. That night, she dreamed again. This time she was in a room with a door that was pale pink in color. This was new. Aurora opened the door and walked right into a room that seemed familiar. She was inside a palace room. Soon she saw two women. Coming closer she recognized her mother and Lilith.

"Something is about to happen, Lilith. Something bad and . . . . " Queen Selene couldn't finish her words.

She looked scared. Aurora couldn't remember much, but she knew she never saw her mother scared.

"What does your instincts tell you, Selene?"

"That it involves your sister, Ivelda."

Lilith's breath hitched; she couldn't respond. Suddenly the scene froze, only for Lilith to turn directly at Aurora.

"What are you doing here, Aurora?"

"Me? This is my dream, isn't it? At least I think it is."

"Indeed, but do you know what you're doing?"

Aurora looked at her in confusion. She was dreaming right? And this was a memory, right? Wait, she never recalled a time where her mother said this, at least to Lilith.

Seeing Aurora's confusion, Lilith said, "This is one of my memories, Aurora. You're in MY dream. I always know when I dream because I learned to look for symbols. I am sure you know about dream symbols, right? They're something you have seen in a dream to let you know you are in one. In my case it's always my mother's pendant I always wear in my dreams."

Aurora saw the pink diamond Lilith wore. That's when something occurred to her.

"Wait, if this is your dream, then how did I get here and how do you know I am not just a part of your dream?"

"To answer your second question hun, it's your aura. It's a white tinged with pale blue. Being a sorceress I can see you don't belong here because I can see your aura. As for your first question, you came here of your own volition. Tell me, Aurora, did you see a door in front of you before coming here?"

Aurora nodded.

"It could only mean one thing, one of your magic abilities has awaken, Aurora. You're a dreamwalker. It means you can walk into other people's dreams. Your maternal grandmother had such an ability, so I am not surprised you have it for magic is genetic."

"So what now? How do I get back?"

"Back through the door you came. We can talk about this later when we're both awake. Remember to check your email."

Nodding, Aurora went back to the door and soon found herself back in the place she started. She dreamed nothing else for the rest of the night.

Lilith prepared for the day. She was glad she had no weekend classes to teach. In her email to all of the girls, she had said the following

I hope all of you have had time to calm down. I am still going to attempt to contact the Fairy Queen today. I plan to do it before noon so if you want to come to my place, come at 10:30 am. I hope each and every one of you come. Here's my address for those interested in coming.

Lilith Evers
1281 New Haven Ave.
Durnam, Oregon 97411

It's only 10 minutes from the university and my house is at the end of the street. I am so grateful that most of you are still returning to Rhindeval. Thans you for your time and consideration.

Lilith hoped that she was powerful enough to reach the fairy queen. It was why she hoped the princesses would come. More that showed up, the better chance she had at reaching the queen.

It had been nice to return to some form of normalcy after all that happened at the festival. Still, Cassie had a very restless night and didn't get a lot of sleep. She checked her college email account and saw the email from Ms. Evers. She figured she ought to see what this was about. First things first though, she had her morning jog, then breakfast. The jog had done her good and she ate breakfast at the university's main cafeteria. It was during this time she got her weekly call from her adopted parents. Wanting some privacy, she rushed back to her dorm, thankful she didn't have a roommate now that she was an upperclassman.

"Hi mom! Festival was great this year! How are you and dad? . . . . . . Mom, there's something I need to tell you and dad, but not yet for I need to figure out how to tell you and when I am ready. . . . No I am in no trouble and I am fine, I just . . . . might have found out what happened to my biological family . . . . . No, I'll call you later today sometime this afternoon? . . . Got it. Bye mom, I love you. Tell dad and my brother and sister I love them too and no matter what, I'll love you always."

Cassie hanged up and decided to work on one of her assignments that morning.

The remainder of the day passed with little excitement, giving Ryder enough time to check in on the Lycan siblings as well as return to his studies. He had few responsibilities when it came to any upkeep around the castle itself - those tasks were well-suited for lower-class individuals, such as maids or housekeepers - so once he had finished attending to his duties of the day, he was pretty much free to do whatever he so pleased. Most days this idle time was filled with studying, as he found garnering knowledge far more use of his time than gambling, drinking, or participating in other vices of the like. So instead, he would much rather be confined to the library or his own quarters, where it was most quiet within the palace walls, giving him ample opportunity to intake any information he so wished. He had finished every book in the royal library over the years and had taken to venturing out into the city as well as the surrounding regions so as to hunt down as many books as possible. Knowledge, to Ryder at least, was the best weapon of choice in war, and he would be damned if he were to be caught lacking in that department.

Unfortunately, due to his bookwormish persona, his physical attributes had taken a bit of a toll. Not to the point where he was overweight - far from it, in fact, as he was well-toned and kept up with his diet and regimen, knowing how important it was for the body to be of sound health when it came to having an equally healthy mind. In actuality, what had truly suffered was his skills in particular departments pertaining to those of the physical nature, such as hand-to-hand combat. He was decent with a sword and a phenomenal bowman, but other than that, he had little training in actual combat. As he mulled through this, he had come to a decision to put a bit more effort and focus into his training when it pertained to physical fighting, otherwise who knew what could happen?

The morning that followed such a hectic day was surprisingly normal for Sir Ryder Veldine. As always, though, when he left his quarters - ensuring to flip every lock into place as he did - a thought nagged at the back of his mind that something … bad was going to happen. It was easy enough to shake the feeling away and shove it down to hide. There was no use focusing on something that could or could not be true, so why bother?

Instead, his attention was drawn to the mouthwatering smell of eggs and bacon. A luxury indeed, as many commoners were too poor to afford something such as bacon, he found himself blessed to be able to even smell the luxurious aroma that was sizzling, juicy, delicious-

”Welcome, Sir Ryder. Are you here for your breakfast? I was about to send Her Highness’ morning meal as well, if you would like to accompany Andromeda. I know you generally greet the Queen each morning.”

The chef, of course, was the one speaking, and Ryder quirked a brow at the man before flicking his gaze to the girl in question. It was the same young maid from the day before who had delivered the Queen’s mid-morning tea, and once again he could not help but note her young age. With this closer look he noted the horrendous scar that marred the girl’s hairline, expertly hidden behind her bangs. It was obvious she was self-conscious of the injury; it looked as though someone had attempted to scalp her. Unsurprising, given her abnormal coloration; it was undoubtedly some sort of rampant gang, looking to make a quick penny off of a pretty wig. A shame that such a young child is forced into a difficult position like this.

With a shrug and a nod, he wordlessly agreed, simply stretching out a hand as though demanding, not asking, for his breakfast. The chef flushed a bit and turned, motioning to someone behind him, and with a shout the boy turned, head bent to somewhat obscure his face as he held a basket of breakfast foods out to the intimidating man before them. Ryder studied the boy for a moment - it was the unfamiliar face from the morning before - and once again felt that small voice at the back of his mind telling him that something awful was going to happen.

This time, though, he did not shake it off, but instead simply took the basket and turned, notating the boy for later. With only a wave in goodbye to the chef, he sauntered out from the kitchens, Andromeda scrambling behind him to keep up with a serving cart.

It took little time to reach the Queen’s chambers, and from what he could hear through the doors, she was up and ready, just finishing her hair. Ever the dutiful advisor, Ryder leaned back against the wall across from the ornate doors to wait, the knights standing on either side of them used to his presence. Andromeda, however, trembled a bit as she stood, waiting antsily for Ivelda to beckon them in.

It was a mere five minutes later that the doors opened and the hairdresser made her exit, allowing them entry. Ryder allowed Andromeda to go first, following easily after the girl. As she placed each plate on the beautiful table that the Queen would eat at, Ryder made his way to Ivelda’s side, dropping to his knee as he reached her. He gently drew her hand to his lips, pressing a soft kiss to her fingers.

”I hope that you slept well, my liege,” he spoke softly. Once again on his feet, he gestured to the table of covered food. ”Please, be nourished and well so that you may lead our land to fruition.”

With that, Andromeda had finished her display of the food and removed the covers of each dish, curtsying once she had finished. Seeming as though eager, she made her way from the room with her cart, almost sprinting away. Ryder returned his gaze to his Queen as she lifted her fork. He studied her as she began to gather a few bites of hard-boiled eggs mixed with several salad mixes as well as an odd, flowery white substance that seemed to almost stand out against the green and yellows of the rest of the dish. As she began to lift it to her mouth, before it could even touch her lips, Ryder’s hands both flew out, smacking both the fork and plate out of her hands and causing them to fly across the room, clattering loudly across the floor and sending eggs and greens everywhere, as well as glass from the plate as it shattered into a million pieces.

Before she could grow angry with him, he rounded towards the Lady In Waiting, who stood in shock, frozen in her spot. The doors to the chambers flew open as the two guards that previously stood outside rushed in, swords drawn and readied. When they took note of no immediate threat, they lowered their weapons slightly yet kept them readied, their eyes darting throughout the room to search for any and all possible threats.

”I want you to gather all of the kitchen staff, now!" he snapped at the girl, who was no other than eighteen. Spinning on his heel and approaching the guard on the right, he threw out his hand, finger extended. "You! Ring the bells to lock the castle's outer walls. I want this entire castle on complete lockdown immediately! There has been an attempted assassination on the Queen, and we will not allow the would-be assassin to escape! Then send two of the servants to fetch the royal healer and Sir Adrian!" Striding to the other guard, he thrust his hand at this one in turn as well. "As for you, I want you to send a servant to find Sir Jiayi with strict instructions to gather the royal guard, and one for Sir Haru, as well as one to fetch the royal artist to be brought immediately! When you fetch Sir Haru, inform the Devil that he will have another prisoner to interrogate soon. Send another Royal Knight to intercept Sir Valken's fleet and ensure that he is docked and awaiting further command from our Queen! Now!” With his eyes darting between both of them, he barked out one more instruction, giving no room for arguments or questions, "I want all of these people in the throne room in under fifteen minutes. Now go!" The men gave curt nods and both of them, along with the Lady in Waiting, took off at near-sprints out the chamber doors, and almost immediately a loud tolling could be heard, the bells echoing throughout the entire castle. In turn, more bells began to resound throughout the kingdom, as the servants hired to work at each belltower were instructed to repeat the bell toll in rhythm with whatever alarm was issued so as to alert the entirety of the kingdom. This specific pattern alerted the kingdom of an attempted assassination on the Queen, and would alert the guard working the castle security to go into full lockdown.

Turning back to face his Queen, he dropped to his knee before her, his head hung in shame. ”My Queen, I know you did not have enough time to ingest anything, but please assure me that you are well. Please, I beg of your forgiveness. I did notice an unfamiliar face within the kitchen this morning but was going to ask you of it once we had more ample opportunity for conversation. This was a clear oversight on my part, and it nearly cost you your life, for in your breakfast I saw one of the deadliest of herbs known to be in existence - water hemlock,” he practically choked out, his voice dripping with sorrow and guilt. Tears pricked his eyes and his shoulders slumped forward, his jaw clenching with regret. ”Please, punish me as you see fit, my Queen, so we can then punish the one who dares attempt to hurt you! I know their features - I know their face! I beg of you, please punish me, my Queen!”

Adrian Wells
Code-#30660C

Adrian sighed in relief as he finished all of the paperwork he had to do. It took him most of the morning to complete it and he was glad when it was over. Now what was he to do? He was officially on break until the queen summoned him again. Maybe he could train in the meantime? Thinking about it, he probably could contact Sir Jiayi for a good spar to see how he held up? That last assignment didn't see that much sword combat, so he might need the practice. And Jiayi was a great swordsman whom Adrian trained with in the past and dueled too. Jiayi might be good natured, but one never should underestimate him. He has bested Adrian many times, but Adrian was a better fighter for it.

Decision made; Adrian was about to write a letter when someone burst through the door. He had his blade ready in hand when he saw it was another messenger.

"Sir Adrian! Your presence is required immediately at the palace for there's been an assassination attempt on the queen. You are to go to the throne room when you get there."

"Good man. Rest your horse before returning to the palace," Adrian ordered before rushing out of the room.

So much for having a break. He went to his stable to grab his fastest horse, a mare named Scarlett. After saddling her up, he immediately took off for the palace.

Ivelda Ever

Code- #003300

Ivelda always took her time getting ready for the day. By the time her advisor came in, Ivelda was, in her eyes, the personification of perfection. She smiled sweetly at Ryder and nodded in greeting.

"I've had a lovely night's rest. I feel rejuvenated! Like I am ten years younger," she laughed.

It was true, but it wasn't because of sleeping well. Ivelda always felt wonderful the day after a sacrifice.

Soon her breakfast had been given to her. Ivelda was a picky eater and demanded perfection from the kitchen staff. The head cook had actually been around since the last rulers and Ivelda made it perfectly clear that if anything poisonous reached her, there be hell to pay. Ivelda herself though couldn't technically die because of poison either. When she made that deal with her master, she gained the ability to 'cheat death' since she had to give him her soul, and it was worth it. There were side effects though. One, she had to keep taking the essence of others to retain her youthful appearance. The other being if she did ingest anything poisonous, it would make her very sick for a time. Also, she had to keep her magic mirror, which held her soul, protected at all costs, because if that was destroyed, she would go straight to hell right then and there. It was located in a secret location no one knew about, except for herself.

Before she could take a bite of her salad though, Ryder instantly threw the fork away. She was about to erupt at him when he quickly explained the situation. Ivelda was rarely surprised but this time she was as her eyes widen open. Only because she realized the irony of the situation and also the fact that she came this close to be poisoned. Ironic since Ryder saved her when she was the one who killed his parents. When she finally came to her senses, Ryder had just finished making orders to bring back some of her servants to the throne room. His actions next amused Ivelda though. She would have smiled but this was a serious situation.

"Calm down, Ryder. Were you the one who hired who made this meal for me? I don't recall that being a job of yours. You will not be punished but rewarded for saving my life. I don't know what that'll be yet, but it'll happen. For now, let's go to the throne room."

Soon Ivelda was in her throne room, awaiting those who'd be called upon.

Haru Otani
Code-#3A0786

The next day, Haru had his early breakfast in his personal sleeping quarters. Some might be surprised, but he didn't always spend his days indoors. For one thing, he actually did practice with his daggers. He didn't want to be like most scholars or alchemists and be weak physically, only relying on their wits and alchemy skills. Lord Chaoxiang taught him that for the man was lethal when it came to the daggers too. Only difference was, Haru never used poison on his blades. Haru wasn't training though, instead he was outside with the Royal Falconer checking on his own birds. He always had an affinity for birds, especially birds of prey and would use them often to send messages. He was checking out his personal favorite, a black hawk named Midnight, when he heard someone call his name. Annoyed, Haru turned to see one of the servants approach him.

"Lord Haru, there's been an assassination attempt on his majesty. She's alright, but you are to report to the throne room immediately," the man said.

Any annoyance Haru felt dissolved to be replaced with concern. Whoever did this atrocity had a definite death wish.

"Very well, I'll be there," he replied.

The servant bowed and left. Handing Midnight to the falconer, Haru wasn't too far behind. He then heard the bells ring and hasten his pace. As he neared the throne room, he saw Alcinder.

"I guess you've been summoned too? I bet you're looking forward to finding this would be assassin, right? Shall we?" he said before opening the doors to the throne room and allowing the white hair man in.

Even though the servant said the queen was fine, he was still relieved to see she was unharmed with his own eyes. He immediately kneels before addressing her.

"Your majesty, I you require my assistance?"

Ivelda nods and says, "Indeed, someone was fool enough to try and slip me a poisonous food into my breakfast this morning. We're summoning the kitchen staff now. What I need for you to do is to identify this poison. Or Alcinder, you can identify it too since I know you've dabbled in poisons before. Ryder do you have the poison with you so they can inspect it? Oh and please stay here after you two identify it, please? Finding this assassin is my number 1 priority at the moment."

Haru nodded and waited for Ryder to give him the poison.

"Calm down, Ryder. Were you the one who hired who made this meal for me? I don't recall that being a job of yours. You will not be punished but rewarded for saving my life. I don't know what that'll be yet, but it'll happen. For now, let's go to the throne room."

Relief washed over Ryder like a waterfall. Thank the Gods that may exist, for his Queen had forgiven him! He had wanted only to be punished by her, for punishment also meant that she cared enough to correct him when he was wrong. Punishment was good - punishment was love. Despite the lack of it, though, he found comfort in her words. He had still done well for her - she still adored him, and was even planning a reward! It was all too much, and he found himself gazing at her in a mixture of astonishment and pure adoration. Surely, he had died and gone to heaven, for he truly did not deserve such a beautiful and righteous angel as his queen!

The small trek to the throne room found Ryder practically clinging to his queen’s side. Given the morning’s events, he figured his behavior was understandable; he wished only to keep her safe.

Of course, nothing the others that served Ivelda could ever be good enough to match his standards, no matter his own faults. The only ones he deemed had arrived in a timely manner were the Royal Inquisitor, the Alchemist, and Ivelda’s first-man when it came to her more subtle expenditures. Unsurprisingly, the captain of her naval fleet took much longer than Ryder approved of, but he would be lying if he said he wasn’t caught off guard by Sir Lang’s tardiness. Before he could utter a word of chastise, however, the captain of course had something that was essentially useless to bite out.

"Get off the floor, dog. I don't think anyone can stand witnessing your repulsive performance for another second."

The audacity of this plebeian; he truly thought that he, a mere ship’s captain, could speak to Ryder Veldine - the right-hand of her majesty Ivelda - in such a manner? When his queen said nothing, however - he blamed her naught for wishing to remain neutral - he shoved down his budding fury over the slight and instead gave the man a haughty smirk, a slight cock of his head giving him the perfect angle to leer down at Aetherius.

”I may be a ‘dog’ but at least I have a home. Your ‘home’ is a temporary sea vessel that consistently smells akin to that of a courtesan from the local brothel - but you would know all too well of how those women smell, would you not, Sir Ruelle?” Before he could quip out anything else, and the other man could retaliate, Sir Alcinder had taken over the topic with the most pressing matter - the attempt on their queen’s life. Ryder watched with a mixture of mild fascination and disgust as the Inquisitor went about identifying the plant - he was fairly certain it was water hemlock, but was by no means an expert - and relaxed only when the herb was passed to the Royal Alchemist.

The report that was given by the residential Demon only verified what Ryder had originally though - the water hemlock was from Brimmix, and could only have been found by someone who knew where to look. He was aware that there were small groups of radicalists that still existed and plotted for Ivelda’s dethronement and ultimate demise, but most of them were so miniscule that they really stood little chance of accomplishing anything and were most often better left ignored. This, however, was orchestrated by a group that seemed to have some more pull; not only could they find a scarce, poisonous herb, but they were skilled enough to almost completely hide it within a dish that undoubtedly had been cooked by the normal chef. Not to mention the fact that they were able to get it into the dish at all; the cooks were terrified to lose their hands to the Queen should anything happen to the food she were to ingest. They watched their cooking like a hungry lion watches its prey.

An eye roll at the Inquisitors' antics that followed his reveal, Ryder turned his gaze onto his queen. ”I await your command and am at your full disposal, my liege.” He chose to ignore the presence of everyone else in the large room, focusing solely on his reigning sovereign, having eyes only for her and her alone.

*Warning: This post may contain bodily harm that could be triggering*

The mere thought of harm befalling his precious Queen was almost too much to bear. Anger, fury, rage - whatever he felt, it was not his prerogative to keep those emotions contained. Instead, he was more than happy to let it be known to those around him that he. Was. Enraged.

Who dared to harm his beautiful Queen? It mattered little who it was, really; either way, they were dead the moment he was able to get his hands on them. And when I do get my hands on them … I am go to flay them alive and leave their decapitated head posted at the gates. Should serve as ample warning to any further would-be assassins. An internal scoff. Someone actually thought that they stood a chance against his Ivelda? It was positively laughable! She was his; of course she would come out unscathed, no matter the situation. She was beauty, grace, strength - everything that everyone else was not.

As he strode, he found himself passing a boy, no more than fifteen. Almost as though he were inkling for a fight, Alcinder tilted ever-so-slightly to the side, causing the boy to shoulder check him as they neared one another. This sent Alcinder into a faux-stumble, and before the boy could react, the Inquisitor had him pinned against the wall with one arm outstretched alongside him.

”You dare to touch me, boy?” His voice was a growl, and the boy stood rapt with fear, as though a gazelle caught in the grasp of a lion taking its sweet time playing with it. ”Children such as you need to be corrected.” Alcinder’s hand moved quickly, grabbing the boy’s and in a near-instant he had wrenched it. A loud and audible crack echoed in the empty hall, followed by the deafening, anguished scream of the lad. Alcinder couldn’t contain his snort; what a weakling. He could not even handle a single broken bone? His queen was hiring lesser and lesser beings to fill positions in the castle. What even was his role? Steward? Who knew, but Alcinder did not care. Instead, he reached out, intent on breaking the boy’s other hand - who was currently curled in a ball on the floor, actively sobbing and clutching his shattered hand to his chest - but before he could touch him, a voice broke through his madness.

"I guess you've been summoned too? I bet you're looking forward to finding this would be assassin, right? Shall we?"

The moment he was distracted, the boy managed to scramble just enough to his feet in order to stumble away, tripping over himself as he half-ran, half-teetered, the pain of his shattered bones causing clear difficulty in him holding his stance. Alcinder snickered at the sight, hoping the boy would fall and finding himself sorely disappointed when he rounded the corner without doing so.

Just who does this guy think he is, a ’friend’? Alcinder couldn’t contain the laugh and it bubbled out of him, a bit mad in its cackle. This guy - this ‘man’ - was really trying to make small talk with him? The Queen’s most trusted individual? Many would argue that the Veldine rat held that position, but many would be wrong, for never did Sir Ryder dirty his hands for their Queen. Instead, he enjoyed the prim and proper life of a ‘distinguished’ gentleman, spending his days washing his hands and schmoozing up to the rich and haughty. Meanwhile, Alcinder was busy actually assisting his glorious monarch. His hands were stained red with blood, and would be until his end of days, but he cared naught; he enjoyed the blood on his skin, enjoyed the warm slide of it across his pale-

The swinging of doors tugged Alcinder from his reveries - oh how he enjoyed his mini-hallucinations, it was almost as though he were reliving the moment - revealing the massive throne room within.

Despite his disdain for, well, essentially any other living creature that was not Ivelda, Alcinder followed Sir Haru’s lead and matched his bow. Attentive to his Queen’s every word, every uttered letter, Alcinder looked up only once she had finished speaking. She was the only one he held in any regard, let alone such high regard. As he gazed up at her beauty, her sharp features, he could not help but fall more deeply for the woman, for who could help it? She was positively stunning, and one day, sometime soon, she would truly become his.

A push and he had risen to his full height once more. It was only at that moment that he noticed the entrance of both Aetherius Ruelle - he was fun to mess with, he gets so mad - and Jiayi Lang. Both were men who might see themselves as his competition, but he knew they were not. No one held even a candle to him when it came to his beautiful Queen. He did, however find Sir Ruelle to be funny; he seemed to hold an equal distaste towards the Lap Dog Veldine, and on that note he could at least somewhat appreciate the other man’s wit. Without a word, Alcinder closed the space between himself and his Queen, a disgusted look cast in Sir Ryder’s direction. A slow up and down study of the other man garnered a snort of amusement from the Inquisitor, as though he found something funny about him, but still he said nothing, simply held out a hand in the direction of the Royal Dog.

His intent clear, he only withdrew his palm once the poison had been placed within it. As he brought it close to his face, Alcinder studied the small pieces of the plant. It was nearly unrecognizable after the process of being ground up and mixed within food, but thankfully was just intact enough to be identified. After a few moments of scrutiny, during which time he sniffed the plant and even licked it - he had managed to build up a subtle immunity to small amounts of toxins and poisons over the course of his time and experiments - before he passed it to Sir Otani.

Only then did he turn to his Queen, dropping to his knees before her, hands lightly touching her feet, as though he were afraid to break her should he grasp too hard.

”My Queen, please, tell me that you are healthy and well?” A beat, and he continued, his hands slightly rubbing her feet through her shoes. ”The poison was that of Water Hemlock, grown in Brimmix near the streams. I have not seen this poison in quite a long time; I am surprised that they were able to find some, given its scarcity. Whoever attempted this has connections - to what degree, I am uncertain. Either way, I am ready to do whatever you wish in order to extract the truth and exact both revenge and justice.” And with that, he simply sat, gazing up at her like a loyal puppy awaiting a treat and a head-pat for a job well done.

Adrian Wells~Haru Otani~Ivelda Ever

Codes-#30660C~#3A0786~#003300

Ivelda found it a bit amusing that there were still people who were trying to get rid of her. Now if it was anyone like her sister, Lilith, then she'd be more concern. Thinking about her younger sister brought a slight frown to her face. When she banished her along with those princesses, she honestly didn't know where she had sent her to. Oh, Lilith wasn't as powerful as she was, but she was still smart and clever. If she was still alive, she would have tried to probably stop her again. Unlike their youngest sibling, Ivelda never hated Lilith, but she had been a thorn in her side. Thankfully thorns could be removed. Not wanting to think about the past, Ivelda refocused on her princes who were present. Before either Haru or Alcinder could speak up, Aetherius showed up and didn't waste time belittling Ryder. She honestly didn't mind if her princes had poor relationships with each other since it might help with them not remember they were allies as boys. As long as their conflicts never caused issues for her personally, she would let them be. She would have replied to Aetherius, but Jiayi entered at that moment. She smiled at his report.

"I thank both of you for coming so quickly. Looks like all that's left is Adrian. Poor dear, I just sent him home yesterday too after he completed another mission for me. Seeing how he lives a hour away from here, I wonder how long it'll take him to get here. Once he arrives we can bring in the kitchen staff."

Haru would have identified the poison, but Alcinder beat him to it in identifying it. Normally he would have been annoyed, but the queen did ask for his assistance too. Soon, much like Ryder, the man also threw himself at her feet. He almost groaned. One would think both Ryder and Alcinder were pets, much like how Aetherius address Ryder. Unlike the brute, he wasn't abound to say something like that, at least in front of the queen. Hearing her majesty mention Adrian, Haru wasn't looking to waiting an hour, but wouldn't complain. However he did address the queen.

"Did you need me for anything your majesty?"

Ivelda turned to Haru, thinking for a second, and replied, "If you could stay until the kitchen staff is interviewed, I'd be grateful."

Not happy, Haru still nodded.

Lucky for Ivelda, what normally took an hour to get there only took half that time thanks to Scarlett's speed and Adrian knowing a few short cuts. Adrian was a bit winded by the time he made it to the castle, which was on lock down. The gates were up.

"State your business! This play is on lockdown!" one of the gate guards said with his weapons out. Adrian looked up to see arrows pointed at him. The man sighed before turning to the guard who was just doing his job.

"I am Adrian Wells, her majesty summon me."

Finally recognizing the man, the guards allowed Adrian to pass. It was a good thing he was a frequent visitor of the palace. Seeing how tired Scarlett was, he dismounted and led her to the stables where he left her in the capable hands of the stable master, making sure she got the best of care.

With quick strides he rushed into the palace. It didn't take him long to get to the throne room. The guards recognized him and allowed him entry. Adrian, even though he was tired, knelt before Ivelda, relieved to see she was okay. He didn't even realize others were in the room.

"Forgive me for not getting here sooner your majesty. I got here as soon as I could."

"My, I am surprised you got here so quickly actually. I hope you didn't run your horse to the ground."

"Scarlett is fine. She's being taken care of. Now what do you need of me?"

"For now just stay here. Summon the kitchen staff immediately!"

The last order went to the guards. Ivelda looked at her princes.

"The rest of you keep your eyes open. Ryder, you do the questioning. If this assassin is amongst this group of people. I want this person kept alive. Alcinder, I leave this person in your care for I want answers. I want to find out if he or she is alone. I don't want anything like this to happen again, so I will be talking with every person who works on the castle grounds. I want to make sure everyone here is faithful to me. For today we'll start with the castle staff, starting with the kitchen staff. Do I make myself clear?"

"Completely your majesty. No harm shall come to you while I am around," Adrian vowed.

Standing up, he went to the side of the room, his hand on the hilt of his sword.

Ivelda kept a neutral look on her face as the kitchen staff appeared. The head cook was understandably nervous. Her lack of expression made him even more nervous. The head cook briefly glanced at Adrian, who had a similar neutral look on his face. Even though he had swore fealty to Ivelda, he would never truly accept her as queen. Adrian, no Richard, to him was the ruler of Lostein. Despite Ivelda's influence, he was still very much like his parents. Not wanting to stare, his attention was directed as another prince, Apollyon, now known as Ryder. The queen's advisor would be the one to question him. Straightening his spine, he allowed the man to question him and answered every question truthfully.

Ivelda looked at each member of the kitchen staff and one in particular looked a bit similar but looked different. The person was sweating a bit and had kept looking her way. They had their man, but Ivelda was still wary of everyone else, even her own princes. Her spell over them was fool proof, for the most part, so she made sure none of them had access to anything that might reverse her hold over them.

Slowly but surely most of the kitchen staff got interviewed and had once again pledge loyalty to Ivelda, but she already knew she would use a spell that would send more 'eyes' out throughout the palace, its grounds, and even the castle town. Finally it came time for the man who Ivelda was sure was her would be assassin. He had a hard time answering the questions given to him, but try keeping his cool. Adrian himself had a bad feeling about the man and kept his hand on his sword. He was at the perfect spot to protect his queen if need be. Ryder eventually ask the man to swear fealty to Ivelda, but the man stumbled over his words. Haru had noticed the man's mannerisms and was ready to act too.

Suddenly without warning, the man turned, pulling out a knife and launched at Ivelda. Ivelda would have blasted him back, but Adrian was there in front of her, shoving his sword through the man. The man fell as Adrian pulled his sword out.

The man, with the last of his strength, looked up at her and said, "Curse you . . . . Ivelda . . . . Lilith and . . . the true rulers will . . . defeat you. . . . long live Princess Rhea . . . ."

With that the man died.

Adrian looked at the dead man in confusion, but before he can say anything, Ivelda spoke up.

"My, thank you Adrian for your quick skills. That poor man though, he was not well in the head. Someone dispose of the body please. We'll have to conduct the rest of the interviews elsewhere while this room is cleaned up."

Adrian looked at Ivelda, who was definitely shaken up. However it wasn't because another attempt on her life, although it did startle her. It was because of what the man had said. The fool in his final moments still try to cause problems for her. For now she would chose to ignore his words and hope none present would ask her.

Haru had tried rushing to protect his queen too, but Adrian was way faster than him, which made sense since he knew the man to be Ivelda's top spy. It was something few were privy too and he was one of them to hold this valuable information. Still his speed was incredible and Haru was curious on how Adrian got to be that way. For now the queen was more important. Soon, Adrian spoke up.

"I will take care of him your majesty since I took his life. Will you be all right?"

"Yes, thank you Adrian."

Bowing, Adrian took off his cape and wrapped the body in it before leaving the throne room.

Turning to her other princes, she spoke up, "Ryder, I'll be in the palace courtyard. I want all of you to round up the rest of the castle staff, including the palace guards and army. We'll interview one group at a time. I'll leave it up to you which groups to interview. Tomorrow we'll tackle the towns folk. Report when you're all done."

With that, Ivelda headed off. Haru sighed and turned to Ryder.

"Ryder, I'll handle the stables, falconry, and alchemy labs for now," he said before leaving.

aetherius ruelle.

As usual, Ryder is quick to retort back, though Aetherius expected as much. His lips quirk upward in a strained, near-violent smile, brows furrowing further as he keeps going, not shy to make dig after dig. Of course, it just encouraged Aetherius even more, and though he knows that it's likely time to be quiet for Ivelda, he manages a final few words for the man he wanted to bury six feet under with his own hands.

"Ha!" Low, quieter than before as the others speak, "unfortunately for you, I have no interest in brothels. Every person who I've spent the night has wanted to be with me. Maybe you're projecting? How else would you know what the brothels smell like, Veldine?" His eyes travel up and down the other man, as if taking him in again, "Well, God knows there's no way you'd get anyone willing to share a bed with you without some form of payment in advance to deal with your insufferable personality."

Words still swiftly rise up in his throat, but he cuts himself off there, sharp gaze turning towards the staff that are beginning to make their way in, the other men who are still observing the water hemlock; a somewhat rare herb that proves to be especially deadly. He was no expert on plant life, he had people on the crew to handle that, but he believed the words and explanation given by the alchemist and the inquisitor. Poisoning was a more sly way to try and kill someone, Aetherius supposed. Had the would-be assassin ground it up and mixed it into the food better, they likely would have gotten away with it. Little bits of the white flower and a piece of the leaf from the stem are still visible, a careless mistake. Had the person been in a rush? Too eager, too overconfident in their ability to get away with this? It only proved that they were stupid in the end, and now they would pay for it with their life. If the rebels are operating this carelessly, then perhaps they really aren't much of a concern at all. They'll be wiped out the moment they try to make a move again.

Eventually, the staff is entirely present, and interrogation begins. Simple questioning for now as they search for the culprit, though he imagines that whoever they pin it on will end up in the basements with the white haired devil that looks always so restless to begin his work. A true sadist at heart. Even with Aetherius's own violent streak, he doesn't think he could even be compared to the depravity of the lengths that man went to, whether for his job or his own entertainment.

Aetherius has only ever been good at intimidation, but at times that tended to make people shit themselves and pass out rather than loosen their lips, so he remains back while they work their way through each of the servants one by one. It's painfully boring, if he's honest, though that doesn't last long.

They eventually make it to a man, and even with his own currently lackluster interest, Aetherius knows he's suspicious. The others are all sweating and terrified, but this man can barely hold himself together. He refuses to make eye contact, can barely hold himself still, startles too much when his name is called for him to step forward. Perhaps it's no surprise when he stumbles over swearing his fealty, though his next act is.

Brave? Or a complete and utter idiot? He's not sure when the man suddenly twists himself around and charges forward, hidden blade in hand with one clear intent: to kill. Time slows just for a moment as he rushes forward, a final act of rebellion and hate towards the woman who had claimed rulership over Rhindeval, an aim for her throat or chest he's not sure. His glaive is drawn in an instant at that, feeling of shock overridden by the impossibly strong desire to stop him, but Adrian is faster than all of them. A sword cleanly through the man's back is all it takes to stop him, the knife he'd held before clattering uselessly onto the ground as he falls to his knees, then to his side, the familiar color of blood beginning to pool out onto the throne's floor. It's a faster death than he would have had otherwise, and Aetherius wonders if it's a small mercy; certainly being stabbed and dying in a matter of seconds would be far better than spending days or even weeks in the dungeons with Alcinder.

It also meant that any information they could have received from the man was basically long gone, nothing more than a few useless words and an unfamiliar name uttered through his final, dying breaths. Princess Rhea? As far as Aetherius was aware, there were no other nobles of the prince or princess status, was the man completely delusional? Maybe a daughter of his that he would have seen replace Ivelda if he had been successful? His plans were far too rushed and haphazard to have expected anything more than complete and utter failure. What a hopeless fool and a wasted life.

Still, Adrian gathers the man up easily enough, Ivelda quickly speaking as he did; Aetherius has never seen her so shaken, though he supposes that's to be expected after having someone so close to taking her life. Not that it stops her from issuing further commands, and he's quick to bow towards her in acknowledgement with a, "be safe, Your Majesty." Gathering up staff would be easy enough when basically all of them cowered in fear when it came to him. He supposed he'd just have to pick his lot of the pack and get them to the waiting location.

The sooner he finished this, the sooner he could return to sea, and that was all he wanted at this point.

jiayi lang.
dialogue ; #8e4c4a. – thought ; #b3b5bb.
Image

Jiayi is largely quiet while the others gather, converse amongst themselves. Aetherius and Ryder's usual spat doesn't go unnoticed by him, though in the tense atmosphere of the moment, he doesn't find it in himself to try and pull them apart or stop it like he might have normally tried. It would only be a waste of time now, and that was time he didn't have when it came to being sure Ivelda was safe, and that security of the palace wasn't imploding before his very eyes.

How had someone managed to slip past them like that? Who had allowed the hiring of someone with nefarious intent as their near-assassin? Should they begin rearranging the interviewer and employer of the palace staff? A slip up like this was nearly unforgiveable, and would have been if any actual harm had come to the queen. Though Jiayi is one to be compassionate, he finds that it likely won't be possible when it comes to resolving the current issue at hand.

His hand rests firmly on the hilt of his sword at his hip, discussion over the poisonous herb leading to them discerning that whoever was behind this likely came from Brimmix. It made sense; the region was particularly good at growing all sorts of plants, and he didn't doubt that it would be possible to cultivate a plant like water hemlock there. But even so, the plant was difficult to grow and keep alive. How had the man located the seeds or plants in the first place? And where had he grown them? If they could find the location of the patch, they could easily be rid of it, and perhaps even locate any co-conspirators if there were any.

For a moment, his mind wanders to Serephis. The man was from Brimmix, wasn't he? Perhaps he'd have better ideas on leads for where the plant would grow best, and it could help close the range of the search.

After a shorter than expected wait Adrian arrives, the kitchen staff following soon after. And with the staff's arrival comes the start to questioning, but Jiayi already has his eyes on one of them. It's hard to miss his shifty behavior, the way he stares at the floor or anywhere else that isn't someone's gaze. The window, the wall, the floor, the ceiling. His hands wring at themselves restlessly, half hidden in his sleeves, but a sharp gaze can easily see the way they're red and inflamed: a common side effect of coming into direct contact with especially toxic plants. He's unfamiliar among the staff as well - a new hire? Everything about him screams suspicious, only further confirmed as he struggles horribly through the entirety of his questioning. Others had struggled in their own ways, but it was clear it was nerves of standing directly before their queen and her closest servants. His was more akin to nerves of trying to cover up lie upon lie, and his facade and story was swiftly crumbling.

The nail in the coffin is when he draws his knife and lunges, faster than Jiayi expected. His sword is drawn along with the others as they pull their own weapons, but Adrian's speed outmatches them in the moment, a quick few strides forward that land a blade through the man's back with an exit through his chest. Jiayi barely halts his own rush forward just near the man as he collapses to the floor, eyes already glazing over as his life drains red from his body onto the cold floor.

Whether he's simply delirious or still desperate to prove his rebellious spirit, he manages a few final words before succumbing to his wounds. A hate filled curse to Ivelda, and a mention of a few names, a reference to a group. One that hits him a little harder than the others. Rhea? Somehow in the back of his mind he feels like he should know someone by that name, a face that is so buried away yet on the tip of his tongue. But who? He knew no princess, and as far as he was aware there were no high ranking nobles or families with a daughter holding the name Rhea. Who could possibly-

His thoughts are cut off abruptly when Ivelda begins speaking, clearly shaken in the way that she rushes her speech a little more than usual. He can't help the way his brows furrow slightly at the sight of her in that state, worry clear in his features, but despite everything it doesn't stop her in issues out commands, ever the reliable leader she had always been. Gather the rest of the staff to question, something that he imagines will be a lengthy task and process, but it's only natural. Of course they would do a full breakdown of the staff after an event like this. If one snake was able to slip its way into a garden, how many more could be hiding, waiting for their own chance to strike? It was far better to nip any rebellion in the bud before weeds overtook roses.

With a final glance over the kitchen staff almost to reassure himself that there were no others with hidden blades in their shirts and a death wish, he turns towards Ivelda with a final nod and short bow. "I'm relieved to see you unharmed despite everything that has crossed your path today, Your Majesty. I'll see to gathering the royal guard immediately for their own questioning. Please be sure to rest; it must have been a shock to suddenly have one of your own staff turn on you this way."

With a short turn away he begins his direction towards the doors of the throne room, spotting Serephis stood alert to the side of it, careful eyes on the staff still remaining inside, though he doesn’t miss the occasional flit of his attention in the direction Adrian had taken the culprit’s body. Jiayi's gaze is all the man needs to quickly join him in walking at his side again, and he wastes no time in giving his own commands to him as they go, a sharp, "gather the guard that has remained on the southern and western wings of the palace; I'll handle the rest."

He's quick to split off, and Jiayi makes his own way to begin his work, a hope that he won't have to see any of his own subordinates caught in lies and deceit.

The interviews with those belonging to the kitchen staff were extensive yet went fairly well, at least in Ryder’s opinion. Alcinder found them entertaining - he always enjoyed a good show - and delightfully jumped to his feet as soon as permission was given for him to do what he did best. Torture. Ivelda sat in and observed, occasionally interjecting with her own queries or comments if it suited her, but for the most part giving not only himself but also the royal Inquisitor and Sir Adrian free rein of the interrogations. The remaining men throughout the grand hall stood by and observed, prepared should the need arise for any sort of fight. That was all most of them were good for, anyway, Ryder mused; swinging swords like the dirty churls they were. He thought of the sea captain almost instantly. If any of them were the definition of a hedge born, it was the ‘king of the seas’ - a name that those throughout the kingdom who disliked the man had given him as a sarcastic jibe, instead of the compliment it came off as at first. Alcinder found those standing off to the side and observing absolutely boring. Who wouldn’t enjoy this grand opportunity to inflict pain not only on someone else, but a possible usurper? It was something that was too good to pass up!

The Head Chef was the second in levels of nervousness, as he was the one who actually hired all of the kitchen staff, so if anyone were to be held directly accountable other than the would-be assassin himself, it would be the Head Chef. He didn’t have much information to give, even when Ryder resorted to not-so-idle threats. At some point throughout, he managed to entirely soil his pants out of fear. The man walked away with one fingernail barely attached as he was quite quick to crumble and divulge what little information he had - which wasn’t much, unfortunately. Just a few names of possible newly hired employees who could be responsible. This led to him not so much walking away as he was more dragged off to the dungeons for further questioning, begging and sobbing the entire way. Not many came back from the dank cells below the castle, and those who did? Well, it required little explanation of the state that they were often returned in. One need only look at the Royal Inquisitor and they would instantly know how well of a welcome any prisoners were given in this kingdom.

Alcinder, on the other hand, was off having his own fun with the kitchen maids - the ones whose sole jobs were to deliver meals, retrieve them once done, and assist in plating and overall cleaning. Perhaps one of these cumberworlds had grown brave enough to attempt to poison his beloved Ivelda? Well, even if they were innocent, it mattered little to him; their mere existence bristled him to his very core.

Needless to say, the women did not leave the interview unscathed.

They were roughly over halfway through the kitchen staff when things took a turn, and one of the young men was blatantly and suspiciously nervous in his answers and overall demeanor. When everyone exploded into movement, Ryder had barely enough time to remove his sword before Sir Adrian had already struck the man down. Alcinder had made it only halfway there before Adrian had already intercepted the scoundrel who dared threaten their queen. The young man’s final words, however, lingered in Ryder’s mind, and he felt his gaze wander over towards his Queen, who was visibly shaken, undoubtedly from the second attempt on her life. Briefly noting the information and reminding himself to ask her later about it, as he did not want to burden her at that moment when she had already been through so much in such little time. Adrian made quick work of leaving with the body, and Ryder himself left the room to call for two servants to clean the bloodied mess that had become the floor. Alcinder found himself scowling; he should have been the one to kill that man and save his Queen. Just who did Adrian think he was?

"Ryder, I'll be in the palace courtyard. I want all of you to round up the rest of the castle staff, including the palace guards and army. We'll interview one group at a time. I'll leave it up to you which groups to interview. Tomorrow we'll tackle the townsfolk. Report when you're all done." A brief nod of understanding in her direction and he gave her a bow, rising only once she had gone from the massive room.

"Ryder, I'll handle the stables, falconry, and alchemy labs for now," and with that, the Royal Alchemist was gone, off to handle his own portion of responsibilities.

Due to the scene, the rest of the interrogations were moved to the courtyard. At this point, Ryder himself had finished his interviews; the man that was deemed the criminal had been taken out, and the rest of the kitchen staff cleared by himself as well as the Queen. The remainder of them would be carried out by various appointed officials by the Queen, ranging from the Royal Inquisitor to the Master of Swords. Instead, Ryder would be at the Queen’s side for a majority of the remainder of the interviews, as was his duty as her advisor, occasionally wandering to check in on the interrogations and see how they were coming along. His eyes moved quickly and constantly, always taking something in, never stopping and always studying as they walked and stood, talked or remained silent in observation.

It wasn’t until the interrogations had completely finished several hours later that Ryder relaxed even slightly, and that was only enough so as to speak to his Queen in a lovely manner. Despite his growling stomach - they had worked through lunch so as to ensure the safety of the palace and their Queen - he was still there to serve her and only her. Besides, if it were not for Ivelda, he would not even be alive right now to feel hunger, so a few stomach pains were tolerable enough in the long run of things. Placing one hand over his heart and the other arm folded behind his back, he bowed forward slightly at the waist before her. ”My Queen, now that the interrogations have concluded and we sent all those deemed to be suspicious to the dungeons for further questioning, what is your command?” he asked, awaiting her response. Despite his loyalty, he was hoping against hope that she would call it a day. It was past the time to take supper, and most of the men, including himself, had spent the day on only their morning meals, if they had been lucky enough to eat before everything had unfolded. Not to mention that, despite his consistent ability to remain composed and seem unfazed, he was exhausted. It had been a viciously long day and his body ached in ways he did not know could anymore. At this point, all he wanted to do was sleep.

Alcinder had thoroughly enjoyed the hours spent torturing and playing with his new toys. His Queen was ever-so-giving, offering him this glorious opportunity to cut into the untouched flesh of his fresh victims. And carving their flesh was exactly what he did. Of course, he was a master of knowing where to draw the line; he couldn’t have any of these new toys dying on him, now could he? That would be an absolute shame, because if he broke his toys, then he couldn’t play with them anymore, and that just wouldn’t be fun, now would it?

He would admit, however, that come sundown also came hunger. He could not deny his own physical needs; they screamed at him to take a break, his own body somewhat sore from exacting more torture than even he was used to. When the group of men gathered around ivelda, Alcinder found himself slipping around the gathering so that he could be as close to her as possible. She didn’t come down to the dungeons as frequently as he would wish, so he had to take what he could get when it was offered to him. He would be lying if he said he didn’t want to go back to his domain, though. Being out and about like this for this long was uncomfortable, exposing, stifling. He missed the comfort of his dank abode, and wanted to go back, as soon as possible.

Adrian Wells~Haru Otani~Ivelda Ever

Codes-#30660C~#3A0786~#003300

The interviews took up most of the day, which didn't surprise Ivelda in the least since the castle, the castle grounds, and some of the businesses connected to the palace were great in number. Still, the queen was patient. Even after the interviews concluded, she wouldn't relax. This was not the time to take it easy. She worked too hard to get herself into this position to let everything fall apart.

Haru was very efficient in his interviews. While the areas he focused on had no direct ties to the kitchen staff, he wasn't going to be lax when it came to his queen's safety. He only sent 2 down to the dungeons to be interviewed more and both were from the alchemy labs. After he was finished, he reported to the queen.

"You're majesty, I've interviewed everyone from the stables, falconry, and alchemy labs. Is there anything you like for me to do?"

"Yes, go to the kitchens and keep an eye on things since I am having them make us a feast in Ryder and Adrian's honor. I don't want anymore mishaps."

Ivelda smiled at her advisor to see his response. She found that rewarding her subjects from time to time ensure their loyalty.
Plus it didn't hurt to keep up this appearance that she was a benevolent leader. Haru felt a tinge of envy towards the advisor and Adrian, but these were the two to save the queen's life, so it was only fair. Bowing, he soon left to take care of the duty the queen asked of him.

Eventually the interviews were all done and Ryder addressed Ivelda, inquiring what she wanted done next. By this time all of her princes were back, including Haru and Adrian.

Adrian had been busy trying to find out where the assassin got the poison and anything else about him so he took a few dogs from the queen's kennels to track down the places the assassin had been and did end up in the man's quarters inside of the palace where the rest of the kitchen staff staid. He found a hidden compartment under the man's bed and found his diary, which was in the form of a manuscript. The fact that he could read and write spoke of someone who was educated to some extent since most servants couldn't read or write, at least to his knowledge. In it he did get a few leads he wanted to follow. One thing he found invaluable was the fact that none of the kitchen staff had any knowledge of his plans for he didn't want any of his actions traced back to them. He should have known better regardless for he knew a few of those poor souls were getting seen by Alcinder. Wanting to report his findings to the queen, he got up and found her in the courtyard and overheard Ryder ask the queen what to do next.

Looking at those present, Ivelda addressed them all.

"Thank you everyone for your assistance. To know that all of Rhindeval is safe thanks to your efforts helps ease my own burden. Pretty soon the time will come for me to go on my yearly journey through our fair kingdom. For now, I have a feast planned in Sir Ryder and Adrian's honor so please get plenty to eat if you want. Sir Aetherius, you're welcome to join in the feast too, but if not, I have your next assignment right here. I want you back before I leave on my trip two weeks from now."

She held out a scroll for him and waited for him to take it. After he did, Adrian spoke up.

"As honored as I am to have you have a feast in mine and Sir Ryder's honor, I have to request that I put your safety first and foremost for I need to find out if this assassin has any outside help. I found his diary hidden under his bed here and it points to the principality of Brimmix, which I know have poisons there. I know I am on break, but I'll find out where he got the poison from within there and anything else that is important to your safety."

Ivelda was very impressed by his actions.

"You're too good, Adrian. Find out as much as you can, but try to get back before my departure. I'll send a message to Overseer Lithera to assist you in any way possible."

Nodding, Adrian left. After his departure, things finally got back to normal.

Lilith Evers ~ Aurora Givens ~ Meridian O'Donohue

Codes- #C71585 ~ #5477B9 ~ #46935C

Aurora smiled back at her old friend.

"I hope we get to see it again too," she said quietly.

She knew there was a big chance that anyone of them could get hurt or possibly die when they returned to Rhindeval, but she didn't want to see Ivelda win even more. She remembered how the witch had captured her during Richard's birthday and things went downhill from there. And the Fairy queen said this wasn't the first time her home had seen hard times. So as long as there was a chance, Aurora wanted to take it, but she wouldn't expect it from the others. Like she knew that Effie was only doing this for her brother and not for her kingdom. Looking at the dark hair woman, she wondered what she was thinking this whole time. Out of them, she was a totally different person from when they were kids.

Lilith turned her head as several of the others spoke up, from Rhea's relief to hearing Arhen was alive to Oriane wanting to get ready and leaving.

Eowyn giggled at Oriane's behavior.

"Looks like she's still straightforward. As for the rest of you, I thank all of you for deciding to return, regardless of your reasons."

"And we're thank you for your assistance too, your majesty. One more thing, we are going to need clothes for the girls when we get here. Well I am going to need clothes also. As you can see, the clothes here will not suit us in Lostein."

"I'll be sure to have my followers get your measurements when you arrive. In the meantime, Lilith, let me send you the location of the place I want you to teleport to."

Lilith nodded and prepared herself. But before the queen could send the image, Meridian spoke up.

"Wait! Sorry but I have a question. When we travel back to Rhindeval, won't Ivelda know we're back?" Meridian suddenly asked.

Eowyn nodded.

"When a portal opens between worlds, it causes a bit of a tear between time and space and causes a surge in magical energy. Anyone with enough magical power has the chance of feeling it. I will feel it and Ivelda may also feel it and could investigate it. You girls are nowhere near ready to face her. I will basically masking that surge of magic to protect all of you. It's one thing my kind can get good at, hiding magical energy. So she won't know you'll be back, not right away at least. When you first arrive, I recommend laying low for a bit until you're ready to do the things you plan to do. Now, let's try this again Lilith."

With that, she established a direct connection to Lilith's mind and sent the image. Lilith staggered a bit for the queen's own magical energy was nearly over-powering.

"Image received. Thanks your majesty," Lilith replied.

"I'll will you in a few weeks then."

With that, Lilith closed the spell and the Fairy Queen's image disappeared.

"Whoa, that was intense."

Lilith nodded and to the princesses there, she said, "Thank you, all of you. I wouldn't have been able to reach the Queen if it wasn't for you. Are there any more questions? If not, you are free to go. I can imagine all of you are getting hungry."

No one else had any more questions and they left soon afterwards.

Two weeks seemed to go by in a flash for Lilith. She managed to sell her house, turn in her resignation, and get everything ready for their trip. Spring semester was over now and graduation happened too the other day. Lilith thought the best course of action was for all the princesses to come to her house. From there, they drive to the location where they were first teleported to Earth, a state park. Lilith still recalled the day they came to Earth. It was dusk and Lilith found herself alone with a group of very scared little girls, with no memories to their name. Lucky for them a park ranger found them, and despite the 'strange clothes' they were wearing, helped them out. Now 13 years later they would be heading back. She had visited the park last weekend to find the exact point where they landed. It was in a heavily wooded area and lucky for Lilith, she felt the remnants of the magic there. Magic always left an imprint of some sort. The girls would have to trek off the beaten path, but it wasn't too deep, but deep enough that no one would be nearby. She just hoped a few of the girls would be okay going through the woods like this. In her last email to all of the girls, she gave the following instructions-

Come to my place by 1 pm. My house is sold so don't be surprised by the Sold Sign out front. We'll be driving to Catherine Creek State Park. I'll be taking the lead. I recommend those who don't have cars put their luggage with someone who does. It'll be a bit of a trek through the woods there. We should get there in an hour or two, depending on how much you packed. I'll give further instructions when we reach the site. Thank you all again for deciding to come back with me. I hope you have had time to say goodbye to and friends or family.

Sincerely, Lilith Evers

Lilith herself had already made several trips to the site. She brought most of her magical gear there ahead of time and hid it magically from anyone who would find it. Only thing she didn't take was her spell book and wand. She was finishing packing when the doorbell rang. Seeing it was 45 minutes early, she went to the door to discover that it was Aurora. Aurora herself was too anxious to get going. She somehow managed to let her adopted family know of her plans. Miraculously, her father allowed her to go somehow, though he had a lot of reservations. Still he had never seen his daughter act that way before and decided to have faith in her to make her own decisions. She did promise them she would come back. Oh, she didn't reveal the whole truth, but she revealed enough to know that she wouldn't be able to contact them for some time.

"Eager to get going I see?" Lilith laughed.

"Yes, but I am scared too. I didn't pack too much either. I don't know how long it'll take for Queen Eowyn's people to make clothes for us, but I packed 8 outfits. I know how to pack efficiently. I know I am going to miss hot showers. I also packed a few . . . other well, more personal items. I did end up bringing a few snacks. I know it won't be no good once we get back to Rhindeval, but I did bring my cell phone, just for the trip to the park, just in case. I brought some stuff I thought I would need in Rhindeval, like a flashlight and paper towels. I know the fairy queen said we'll be staying in a cabin big for all of us, but I brought a pillow and blanket to be safe since I don't know if the cabin is furnished in any way. I did leave my stuff in the car, but I do have enough room in case someone needs it." Aurora rambled, clearly anxious.

"It's fine, dearie. Come and sit down while we wait for the others okay?" Lilith suggested.

Aurora nodded and followed Lilith in.

Meanwhile, Meridian was saying goodbye to her own family. They lived a town away from the college. It was hard saying goodbye to the family she grew to love. She ended up telling them the whole truth since she didn't know how to tell them otherwise. She was horrible at keeping things hidden after all. Surprisingly, her adopted family took it well.

Her father even joked, "At least we know why you have green hair."

The table was abnormally silent at the moment, but her mother spoke up.

"Shouldn't you bet getting going, Cassie dear?" Mrs. Peters said to her daughter, who was finishing her lunch.

She was trying her best to hold back any tears.

"Yes, I am just scared. I might not ever see you again." Meridian said honestly.

"You have to think positive, Cassie. Believe in the impossible. Didn't we always tell you that?" Mr. Peters replied.

Meridian nodded.

"You can do it big sis!" shouted her 10-year-old brother, Michael.

"Kick that mean witch's butt!" added his twin sister, Michelle.

The pair had been a surprise to Cassie's adoptive parents, who were told they would never have kids by birth. It was one of the reasons why they kept telling Meridian to believe in the impossible, because sometimes, it just might happen. Meridian smiled at her brother and sister.

"Thanks you two. I love you all."

Ten minutes later after tearful goodbyes, Meridian was on the road, heading to her destination.

Adrian Wells~Haru Otani~Ivelda Evers

Codes-#30660C~#3A0786~#003300

Two weeks later, news of what happened had spread like wildfire. Even the assassin's final words manage to get out due to a few of the cooking staff being there when it happened. People were very careful to not mention Lilith or the princesses out in the public though, for they knew the queen would get word of it. Indeed, Ivelda had made good her word in sending out more "eyes and ears" out into the kingdoms under her rule. People started vanishing too. Still, people once again regained hope that Lilith or any of the princesses would return. Still they worried how Ivelda could be defeated.

The only ones who knew about the Lilith and the princesses returning were the rebel leaders and their followers thanks to the faeries and even they were extremely cautious for they didn't want to risk the princesses or Lilith's safety. Few would send their best spies into Lostein to keep an eye on things. While the faeries did tell them when the princesses would be back, they didn't tell them where, which bothered a few rebel leaders, but they knew it was for the princesses and Lilith's safety.

Adrian, in his own mission to find out about the assassin, did hear these whispers as his journey took him to the principality of Brimmix. The whispers of Lilith and princesses did plague him too. It almost felt like he knew them, but something was preventing him from grasping it. He knew he had no memory prior to the age of 10, so maybe he heard of such things then. That was impossible though since Ivelda had been in rule long before he was born. He came really close to finding the poison's source, but sadly didn't have time since the queen did want him back in two weeks. He was grateful for the Overseer's help though and did reassure him her own people would do their best to track down the source of the poison. He paid a 'friendly visit' to the man's family though and had that entire family arrested after finding things that proved their treachery, sketches of a 'royal family'. The man, who was the assassin's father, apparently had been commissioned to paint this 'royal family' and these were sketches he did for prior to painting them. The couple in these sketches were young looking with a dark hair girl. The image of the little girl struck a chord in him, like he felt he knew her somehow. He had the images burned, although a part of him hurt for some reason, but he couldn't risk these images getting out. Even though this journey wasn't as physically taxing, it was mentally taxing, and he was relieved when his self-appointed job was done. He took his time getting back to Lostein to report.

Meanwhile back in Lostein, Ivelda was busy getting ready for her journey. She always made a point to take this journey to make sure her magical hold over each of these kingdoms was firm. She would also inspect the areas she didn't have access to, like the other palaces. It still frustrates her that she couldn't conquer Traumet, which held ancient magic. As she was getting ready, she received word that Adrian would be arriving back soon. Perfect timing. She had made sure to give her princes double doses of her 'special drink'. Aetherius had arrived yesterday from he latest mission and gotten his 'drink' than. Adrian was the last one she needed to give it to. Within the hour, Adrian found himself bowing before the queen in her throne room. He gave his reporting and Ivelda nodded, keeping a neutral look, when inside, she was seething due to people talking about her sister and the princesses again. She thought she had squashed such hopes of Lilith or the princesses returning awhile ago. Still, she knew she couldn't control everything. She could also see Adrian had been affected by what he found. She couldn't risk him finding out the truth so for now she wouldn't give him another assignment for the foreseeable future.

"You're clearly exhausted, Adrian. Come, I will make you my special drink and it can drain you of your weariness."

Adrian nodded and followed without word. After giving him the drink, she sent him home, saying he deserved a break and ordered him to stay home for a time. Adrian thanked her and left the halls. After he left, Ivelda decided to check on Ryder to see if he had all of her things assembled for her trip. He should be out in the courtyard area. She finds him there inspecting the carriages.

"Is everything ready for my departure, Ryder?"

Adrian was heading out to get something to eat when he ran into Haru, who was also going out to test one of his new inventions. He was hoping see if he could create a device that would take down the seals and wanted to use his blood as the catalyst, but he wanted to test it away from others.

"Good day Haru. Off to test something?" Adrian asked.

"Yes. I see you're back. You look like hell." Haru said bluntly.

"I feel like hell. Her majesty has blessed me with some time off, so I am getting something to eat and head home. You're welcome to join me."

Haru hesitated. He wanted to test his device, but he was also curious to hear about Adrian's trip too to turn him into such a state. Haru would never admit it, but he did feel this connection to the man, even to others who he wasn't found of like Aetherius. It was like an annoying itch though.

His curiosity getting the better of him and knowing he still had to eat himself, Haru replied, "Fine."

Lilith Evers ~ Aurora Givens ~ Meridian O'Donohue

Codes- #C71585 ~ #5477B9 ~ #46935C

Meridian try to keep her feelings in check as she drove towards Lilith's house, or well, former house. She was glad she had least graduated college with a 4-year degree, but it wasn't going to do her any good short term. In some ways all of the things she accomplished here had very little meaning. Besides the necessities that she packed, one of things she couldn't leave behind was her beloved violin. She remembered feeling an instant kinship when she saw it for the first time when her family took her on her first vacation to Ireland when she was 9 in an Irish pub. The violin player allowed her hold it for he saw her instant love of it and it felt like she gain a piece of herself. She ended up playing a tune she knew now was something her birth mother had taught her for music had been the only thing she and her mother bonded over. The same violin player gave her the violin she had with her now.

She hoped to play for her people once again for one of her last happy memories of Angalais was performing at their annual Flower Festival that occurred in early spring. She played with her mother and a huge crowd clapped along. She had been so happy. A few of the other royal families were there, including her cousins and Kaito's family. Kaito . . . . he was always a pain, but she remember clinging to him in a cold cell, her broken heart devastated and guilty for feeling she was the cause of her mother's death. She did feel that way even now, but tried to be strong for her father raised her to be that way. She would be strong for when Ivelda had her and the other girls taken from the boys, she hardly put up a fight, she was that broken internally. But Kaito fought, and Richard too since he and Aurora had been in the same cell they were in. Both boys were injured, but they still faught. Aurora's cries got to her too. She wouldn't be weak this time. She was one of the older girls, she would be stronger this time. Already she was hoping they would get trained to fight. Her father did give her fighting lessons, despite her mother's concerns. His argument that all royals, boy or girl, had to learn how to fight to some extent and used Kaito's mother as a prime example because Queen Meilin and him dueled growing up and he often underestimated her and she kick his butt at times.

Her thoughts of the past came to a standstill when she arrived at Lilith's house and saw Sia and Oriane there already. Leaving her own things in her car, she approached them.

"Hey. I don't know about you two, but I am honestly not ready for what is about to happen. At the same time, I don't want to be a coward though. Have either of you knocked the door?"

She had her answer when Lilith opened the door for she had heard a knock at the door. She smiled at the girls who arrived.

"Hello ladies. Aurora is here so why don't you come inside? We're still needing Rhea and Euphemia," she said before escorting them inside.

Aurora waved at them as they came in.

"Good day. How are you three doing?"

"Managing. Nervous and anxious at the same time. I don't know what to expect, but I don't want to wait around for long either."

Meridian sat down on a couch and was surprised to see the house still fully furnished. Well, it wasn't like Lilith was going to need these things in Rhindeval. It must be why she was able to sell the house so quickly because it looked up to date and was fully furnished. What she didn't know was that Lilith used a small spell to ensure it got sold quickly too. In the mean time, all they could do was wait for the last two princesses.

Adrian Wells~Haru Otani

Codes-#30660C~#3A0786

Both Adrian and Haru came into a tavern in time to hear Aetherius's loud voice.

"My crew aren't servants, brat. You have your servants at home. If you wanted to be coddled and tended to while venturing out, you should have brought some along with you."

Haru groaned and would have left, but Adrian continued went on in and both heard the noble brag and mock the sea captain and his crew more. Adrian was considered a 'noble' himself. In fact it wasn't known by most people that he was a spy and assassin for the Queen. But he certainly knew about the Cline family, all were a bunch of stuck-ups. The queen only tolerated them because of their loyalty to her and having one of the biggest vineyards in Lostein. Gaul Cline might be the eldest son, but from what Adrian knew he hardly did any work and was a terrible businessman. One of his first assignments as Ivelda's spy was to have all of the nobles investigated to make sure none of them were supporting any rebels. The Clines were clean as a whistle in that regard. Still he hated interacting with them. What the general public believed was he was the Queen's ambassador to other places which was his cover for it gave him perfect opportunities to spy.

Both Adrian and Haru waited to see how Aetherius would handle the situation and Adrian sighed when things seem to 'calm down', but there was an undeniable tension in the tavern now that even the employees there looked nervous. Wanting to see if he could lighten the mood, Adrian approached Aetherius.

"Aetherius! Good to see you and your crew have returned safe and sound. I guess you're waiting for her majesty to give you a huge assignment before her departure. She's given me a break for some time. My last few jobs have been tiring, so I am looking forward to it."

Aetherius did know Adrian's 'real job' since he had sailed with him numerous times to get to certain areas where he had to be cautious.

Haru, feeling annoyed at being around these group of troublemakers, which included that bratty noble and his colleagues, just came up.

"Adrian, did you really want to each lunch here? If so I think I'll just take my leave."

"Why? I thought you said you like the food here."

"It's not the food, but the company present,"

Adrian saw Aetherius's reaction and try to distract him.

"Hey don't worry about Haru, Aetherius, you know how blunt he can be sometimes. Let's just eat and I'll see to it you're not bothered by anymore unwelcomed company until Ivelda sends for you okay?"

He sent a scolding look in Haru's direction. It probably would be best for him to eat somewhere for the two barely tolerated each other and Queen Ivelda wasn't here to buffer.

Haru rolled his eyes. He was still interested in what happened with Adrian, but he wasn't bound to spend any more time with people who got under his skin so easily.

"Fine, I got better things to do anyway then to be around grown people who don't even know how to act their own age and let the littlest things get to them."

With that Haru left, leaving Adrian to deal with the aftermath of his words.

It seems peace and quiet isn't here to stay. Almost as soon as things settle and he's leaned against the table, Adrian's voice cuts through the tension of the tavern, and his gaze snaps back over to him. Well isn't he awfully chipper. His thoughts bite out, though he holds his tongue and his soured mood back, arms staying crossed over his chest. It didn't help that Haru was there with him, and his scowl deepened slightly. What's got the two of them sticking together? Let alone coming to this place out of every once they could have picked out. Great timing.

"Something like that," he eventually responds, and it was true; he was waiting for the next assignment. Impatiently.

Before he can say anything further - not that he's in the mood for idle chit-chat - Haru approaches, and in his typical, unpleasant manner, finds a way to insult Aetherius and his crew and running before he can deal with the consequences. Adrian does his best to try and talk Aetherius's building rage down, though it doesn't help that he doesn't shut his mouth even after the other's offering of an olive branch, a few final, petty words before he's gone.

Though it pisses him off, Aetherius isn't an idiot. Haru is gone, and taking his rage out on any one else would be uncalled for, so he keeps his lips pursed, but by the gods it seems like no one wants it to seem that way when a grating voice reaches his ears again, wood creaking under the foot of people approaching again. It really seemed like Gaul had a deathwish.

"Sir Haru is right, I'm glad there's someone here with common sense." It's sneered out, and Aetherius feels the wood of the table in his grip splinter suddenly, too hard of a grip to try and keep his words swallowed down. Harder, when it seems like more people walk through the door of the tavern, and it's far too obvious that they're with the noble even if they hang back.

"I thought I told you to fuck off." He growls, and Gaul scoffs again, "and why the hell would I listen to you? Stupid brute, you think you have any say over what I do or don't? You're sorely mistaken. I only came to warn you that with my father's word to the Queen, I'll have you punished, and get what I wanted anyway." His eyes move down to the women at the table again, "a few new whores, and an ugly little pet for my sis-"

When he looks up to Ash, he's instead met with the view of a metal tankard heading straight for his face. It's a hard thud, an uncomfortable crunch and the alcoholic contents of the cup spilt out over gaudy clothes and the wooden floor, and then silence. Or at least, silence aside from the heavy, enraged growls that resonate from Ash. It seems keeping his anger forced down didn't work in the end. Not that Aetherius was doing a good job himself.

Gaul seems stunned, having stumbled a few paces back with hands held to his face in pain. There's blood mixing in with beer, and by the sounds he'd caught before and the sight of it once he pulls his hands away, his nose is very much broken. A ruined face, the humiliation of a tankard being dumped all over him...it seems enough to throw him right over the edge. His face twists into a burning rage, ugly, and without waiting another second, hate-filled eyes are looking around at the people he's gathered, a shrieked, "what are you idiots waiting for!? Kill the goddamn mutt and his shitty friends!"

The tavern explodes into chaos in less than a breath, angry shouts filling the building as it explodes into nothing short of an all out brawl. He's stood up himself as soon as it begins, glaive held in a deathgrip in his hand as his eyes move wildly over the room. Adrian is quick in jumping to protecting the staff, barmaids and bartenders hiding behind what they can as he stands in front, sword drawn. His own crew is quick to engage, and frankly, they're far better at fighting the idiot nobles and lords, whatever other statuses were tossed into the bunch. Yet they still have numbers, annoying bugs; it wasn't like the whole naval crew was here, after all.

A few are stupid enough to think they can go against him, and he crushes their arrogant ideas with swift punches that knock their lights out, a solid foot to the chest of one that sends him rolling across the ground and hitting the leg of a table hard enough to snap it and send the whole thing collapsing on top of him. The rest of his crew seems to be holding up well enough, though it's quickly becoming apparent that too many of the enemy are keen on trying to have their moment to shine in getting rid of Ash.

The glaive's handle is shifted in his hand, non-bladed end moving towards the back while he uses the rest of its length to swing, knocking against the four or five that were attempting to corner the lycanthrope. It knocks necks, heads, chests, enough to get rid of most of them, though the one that remains isn't given any time to be proud of his dodging ability when there's a hand wrapped tightly around his neck just seconds later, Aetherius hefting him into the air and letting him kick his legs uselessly to find some sort of purchase for his feet.

"The lot of you are fucking idiots." He hisses, grip tightening against the man's throat, and underneath his rage he knows he could snap it like a twig if he pressed any harder. "This is the consequence of your arrogance-"

He cuts himself suddenly, at the sound of a muffled cry that barely makes any noise compared to the chaos of the fight, so easy to miss but-

Aetherius's gaze snaps back just in time to spot Gaul. Gaul, with Yù míng's wrist in a bruising grip and twisted above her, the other hand's fingers twisting under the edge of her sarashi with a sadistic, too wide smile, and it's abundantly clear exactly what he intends to do. Why not humiliate her for refusing him? His vision goes red.

The man in his hold is barely conscious, and he seals his blackout with a swing through the air, slamming the man into the nearby table enough to break it in two. Sharp blue eyes snap back to the two, a rush forward, the blunt staff of his glaive ready until-

A blade. He can see the way Gaul goes rigid suddenly, eyes widening and moving down to try and look at the knife that rests in the center of his chest, buried to the hilt. And Yù míng, staring just as wide eyed, her hand pulling back from the handle like she can't believe she is the one who did it. Even if he isn't dead yet, his fate is sealed. Even if it hasn't struck his heart directly, he's just a dead man walking now. And Yù míng was the killer. A runaway against a noble. Aetherius isn't stupid to think that anyone would accept self defense as an excuse for what had happened.

So the staff of his glaive twists in his hand, the blade pointed forward again, and he swings.

It connects to the side of Gaul's neck, the force of it slicing through the flesh, muscle, tendons and bone like it was nothing, a clean cut that completely suffers the head. His glaive slams into the wooden ground soon after, deeply embedding into the wood, a loud crunch enough to draw over the first bit of attention, and if that wasn't enough, then the rest is when someone screams.

A spray of red from the stump on Gaul's shoulders as the body begins to fall, blood that splatters across his front, some reaching his face; he doesn't flinch. Yù míng is stumbled away, just far enough to dodge it, but her face is pale, her eyes wide and terrified as she looks to Aetherius, and he looks back, though his expression says nothing more than "stay quiet."

The head rolls across the floor, slow until it reaches Aetherius's foot and thuds against it, expression frozen in one of agony and shock, but very much dead. His eyes are empty, life long gone at this point, and his hand moves to take a handful of hair, lifting it off the floor and out to the front of him. His own eyes are cold, dark, violent as he looks over the frozen crowd, not helped with the spray of blood over his front and face, some of Gaul's followers looking ready to pass out or bolt, and notes that Baron Radland - he hadn't even noticed him in the crowd - has done the latter. Not long until the guards show up now, Aetherius figures.

"This fight is over, unless anymore of you want to end up like him," he hisses, and Gaul's head is thrown back onto the ground with a loud thud and crack, only further descecrating one half of his brutalized body. That certainly wasn't going to win him any leniency.

I'm fucked.

Adrian Wells~Haru Otani~Ivelda Evers

Codes-#30660C~#3A0786~#003300

Adrian wanted to groan when Gaul and his cronies started instigating Aetherius and his crew. He would have interfere, but things escalated too quickly and soon a brawl broke out. Adrian stayed out of it by make sure the tavern staff stayed out of harm's way and made sure his hand was on the hilt of his sword. He already know that Aetherius was in deep trouble. Thanks to his quick eyes, he did manage to see Gaul 'manhandle' a female of the sea captain's crew. He saw Aetherius charge toward them and time seemed to move in slow motion. He caught the knife go right into Gaul's chest and Aetherius's actions afterward. Instantly Adrian figured out what he was doing, taking the fall for his crew member. When all was said and done, Adrian rechecked the staff of the tavern. He knew it be a matter of time before Ivelda got word of this since he saw someone leave the tavern.

Ivelda nodded as Ryder answered her question and was overall pleased. All she needed to do now was check with Alcinder and Haru to see if they needed anything on her travels. She also needed to give Aetherius his next assignment and check with Jiayi to see if he was done with his inspections. However before she could do anything else, Baron Radland appeared and stammered out a few words about an emergency. This did not please Ivelda in the slightest, in fact she was frustrated.

"Lead us to where this happened Radland. Sir Ryder, get my horse and a spare for you and Redland. Have the staff there help you if need be."

Soon Ryder and a few others returned. The trio mounted their rides and the baron led Ivelda to the tavern closest to the port.
She had the nearby stable look after their horses before entering the tavern.

Seeing the huge mess and damage she looked right all in the building and hollered, "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!?"

Everyone there instantly bowed or curtseyed, Adrian amongst them. Ivelda saw Adrian next. By this time she did see Gaul's head.

"Adrian, why are you here?"

Adrian quickly responded, "I came here for a meal, your majesty."

"We're you involved in this?"

Adrian under any other circumstances would have stuck up for Aetherius and lied, but he knew Ivelda was an excellent at lie detection since she was the one who taught him how to be one himself.

"No your majesty."

Ivelda looked things over. She was aware of Cline being a pain at times since she kept constant tabs on all of the nobles. Turning to the tavern owner, she ordered him to come forward.

"I wish to examine your memory. Hold still please."

The man didn't dare object and stood still. Ivelda saw everything from the time Gaul first started interacting with Aetherius and his crew to Haru and Adrian arriving, to the brawl, to how it ended. Deciding to tackle the easiest issue, she turned back to Adrian.

"Adrian, thank you for keeping the staff safe. Be a dear and find Haru and bring him back."

Adrian was an excellent tracker, so she knew he'd find Haru in no time. Adrian bowed and left. Looks like he wasn't going to get something to eat anytime soon.

Ivelda turned to Aetherius next.

"As for you and your crew Aetherius, you'll not be given your next assignment, instead while I am gone, you'll be helping fix things up around here and with any other construction needed around town. Your crew will be involved in this too since it was them who started this fight in the first place. You'll also help pay for part of the damage, but not all of it. After this tavern is repaired, you'll report to Ryder on what else needs fixing. This should keep all of you out of trouble for the time being."

She then approaches Aetherius himself and speaks to him privately so no one may hear.

"Be grateful I am not doing anything worse to you or the one responsible for Gaul's death. Only reason why you're getting off easy is because he mistreated your crew member and they started pestering you in the first place."

With that she step back and addressed the whole of Aetherius's crew again.

"Next time someone bothers either of you again, I expect ALL of you to take the higher ground and leave the situation and report it. I never tolerate any form of harassment."

It was at that moment that Adrian returned with Haru. Adrian had been able to find people who saw Haru eat nearby. Haru hadn't been happy but did what his queen bided and Adrian explained what happened after he had left too. He wasn't surprised to hear about the brawl, but was surprised about the death of Gaul.

Seeing Haru, Ivelda got straight to the point and asked, "Haru, did you deliberately try to get under Aetherius's skin? You know he has a short temper."

Haru had been told that Ivelda looked at the tavern keeper's memory so he wasn't surprised by that question.

"Partially your majesty but I was also referring to Gaul and those with him too since we arrived while they were still interacting."

"Well then, since you were a part of the problem, you will be assisting Aetherius and his crew in fixing up this tavern, 3 times a week. You'll start tomorrow. Once it's finished then you can return to your primary duties full time. I expect better of you next time Haru."

Haru wasn't happy but obediently replied, "Yes, your majesty."

Ivelda finally turned to those who were Gaul.

"As for the rest of you, let Gaul's death be a reminder to not play with fire. All of you represent Households that serve ME. Aetherius and his crew are part of this kingdom's protection and are an extension of ME! They're one of the reasons why you can sleep safely in your beds at night and I will not tolerate you treating them like vermin. I could easily have your father's positions stripe of power and replace them for those more loyal. But because Aetherius's crew did start the fight, I won't do that for now. Do I make myself clear?!"

The young men nodded in fear.

Smiling sinisterly, Ivelda continued, "Now as for your punishments, since all you need a piece of humble pie, I'll have each of you work throughout the town doing servant work for a month."

Hearing the young men groan, Ivelda snapped, "SILENCE! I could easily have Alcinder deal with each of you to teach you obedience!"

The got them to be quiet. Sighing, Ivelda turned to Ryder.

"Ryder, I am so sorry I am going to have to add more to your plate while I am gone but have someone keep an eye on things here while they rebuild. They'll report to you on the progress. I'll have Jiayi and our guards help with the cleanup and then have our builders assess things. Also please have servants fetch the heads of each of these young men's households to the palace. They'll help pay for most of the damage, which includes compensation for the tavern owner and workers here for the time this tavern is closed. I'll have to delay my leave slightly so I can speak with these boys' fathers. I'll be in the throne room.
If there's anything that comes up prior to my departure, I'll make you aware of it. Haru, was there anything you needed from any of the principalities?"

"Yes your majesty, I wrote it down, but I don't have with me."

"Be sure to give it to me before my departure," Ivelda said before addressing the tavern owner, "Barkeep, you and your workers see if anything is salvageable. I'll have you and your wife stay at the nearby inn free of charge, I'll cover the fees myself. My apologies for the damage caused here."

"Thank you, your majesty."

"All of you have your assignments. Aetherius, you and your crew and start cleaning up now. The rest of you are dismissed."

With that, Ivelda and Ryder left to return to the palace. Ivelda went straight for the throne room and had a servant summon Jiayi.

Adrian decided to get a bite to eat before returning to help Aetherius clean up the tavern. He decided to leave Aetherius alone for he could tell the man was in a foul mood, having his 'sea legs' taken away for a few months.

Haru returned to the palace to get the list that Ivelda required of him.

The retrieval of horses was swift, and within mere minutes they were on route to the pub in question, Radland leading the way, albeit clumsily. When the group of them reached the eatery, Ryder wasted no time, instead dropping from the horse mid-ride. His mount made some sounds of frustration, startled by the sudden change, but eventually made its way to a nearby trough for some water. Without a care for the steed - it was not his horse anyway - he strode through the doors of the establishment, holding them open for queen, bowing as she strode through the entry. She gave him no time for introductions, instead demanding explanations for the current state of the place.

With that, her own personal interrogations began, starting with Adrian before migrating onto the owner. He was wise not to argue, but instead allowed her to view his memories of the events, and once done she seemed at least somewhat satisfied. Ryder took the time to study the inside of the building, which was for the most part utterly destroyed. Holes scattered across the walls, pairing well with the equal amount of holes in the windows. Most of the chairs were broken, as were several of the tables, and there was even a large hole in the roof - lords knew how they managed that one. The few civilians who still remained, many of the patrons having fled when the fight first began, were standing huddled amongst one another, several of them practically shaking in their boots. Whether it was from the presence of their queen or due to the recent disaster they had witnessed, who knew. He did note the decapitated body and head nearby, the pool of blood around it already solidifying into a disgusting jelly-like substance. A few orders later and she was - much to Ryder’s satisfaction and glee - onto disciplining the water amoeba that was the ’ship captain’.

It was nearly impossible to hide the smirk that threatened, so he settled for resting a hand over his mouth in an attempt to hide it. A snort unfortunately did escape at the mention of Aetherius having to report to Ryder himself. Oh, sweet, karmic justice - who knew you could taste so good? The look on the man’s face only secured the deal and Ryder found himself turning away, cheeks practically bulging as he, albeit successfully, fought down his laughter.

This is going to be extremely fun.

His queen continued her orders, moving onto Haru, who looked somewhat like a spanked puppy, and then the remaining nobles, who nearly argued in protest before remembering who it was they were speaking to and deciding it best to hold their tongues. Finally, when she turned to him and apologized, he found himself somewhat startled. Why would she apologize? None of this was her fault, after all. It was that obtuse, sorry excuse of an over-promoted fisherman who was at fault. Unfortunately, Ivelda gave him no time to respond, instead whisking away and taking off for the castle. He paused only long enough to toss Aetherius a satisfied smirk before following after her, after the loyal lapdog. It didn’t take long to return, and when they reached the extravagant buildings, he quickly bid his queen goodnight, intent on finishing his duties before finally - finally - being able to retire to his rooms and have a maid deliver his supper.

It did not take long to summon servants to gather the family heads, and just as little of time to gather the leaders. His duties done - he was not needed for this part - he thankfully trudged to his quarters, the weariness of the past few weeks settling deep within his bones. His stomach growled, protesting the lack of sustenance he’d provided for it thus-far, and he rubbed it sympathetically. ”Do not fret, stomach of mine - soon we shall bathe, eat, drink, and rest.” He was looking forward to a bottle of wine and a good book.

Once he had made his way to and inside of his rooms, he stripped himself bare and made his way to the bathing room, snagging a towel en route. The rooms were exquisite, given his status, and the maids had already been forewarned of his arrival so the tub was filled with steaming, scented liquid. A trio of maids stood beside it, each of them bearing a horrific scar of some sort on their faces, their heads turned down ever-so-slightly. Despite their obvious attempts, they were unable to entirely hide their lustful gazes. The two with darker hair were more demure, flickering bashful glances his way as he strode across the room, but the brunette was a bit more brazen. Her head remained raised, her eyes focused on him and the ghost of a smile hovering across her lips. He flicked a glance at them but brushed it aside, one foot slipping into the warm water, a soft sigh escaping him unbidden. When he had fully lowered himself into the tub, he let his head fall back, the heat of the bath soothing his aching muscles.

The maids set to work, one on his head and the other two divided on each side of him. The bath was soothing, and he found himself relaxing, enjoying the scent of lilacs soaking into his skin. Too soon it was over and he found himself rising, water dripping from his body with soft clinks into the tub below. The brunette flushed a crimson red, a hand moving up to hide her mouth, even someone as forward as her struck dumb at the sight of a man so akin to that of a god on earth. As he shook out his hair, he turned a stony gaze on the girl, hand outstretched for a towel. She gave it to him obediently, her brain coming to a complete standstill.

Within minutes he was dry and dressed, having made his way to the sitting room as he ruffled his hair with the towel. The maids with darker hair had set about cleaning the bathing chambers, and the brunette had taken to assisting him with his dinner time. It was late, but they were on duty until the job was done, so ever the loyal servant, the brunette began the process of serving him his dinner.

Supper was quick and he soon found himself passing off any further servings, instead motioning with his chalice to be refilled. By this point, it was solely the brunette left with him, the glowing embers of the fire sparking to life with each sudden crackle. The room spun a bit, but it was an entertaining motion, filling his stomach with the thrill that he felt when he had first learned to ride a horse. Eyes on the liquid in the goblet, he swirled it around in circles - his sixth glass at this point, he was certainly tipsy, if not drunk. The thought amused him, for it was interesting that such substances could affect the human body and mind in such a way.

A brush of skin and he saw a hand appear, followed by the soft brown tresses that belonged to the maid from before. He had nearly forgotten she was there, but it was clear she was intent on making her presence known. As she moved to refill his cup, he felt the soft slide of body-to-arm - soft body - and for a moment he could only stare down at the supple curves that disappeared just below the top of her shirt. When he raised his eyes once more, they were darker, the alcohol having warmed and slipped into him enough that his inhibitions were slightly jarred. Their gazes locked and before he could stop her, she had moved forward and brushed her lips to his - and he did not stop her.

An hour had passed, Ryder having ensured that no one was near his chambers and the doors and windows were fully secure. He was not truly worried for himself, but more so for the girl and what Ivelda would do should she find out. Thankfully, he had enough presence of mind to take those precautions and others before proceeding, despite his alcohol-induced state. So, around an hour later he was ushering the young woman into dressing herself once more and leaving. It wouldn’t do to have her discovered, and the longer they dallied the more likely they were to be found out.

When she left, he flicked each lock in turn before sighing and making his way back towards his now-disheveled bed. A hand moved out and snagged up the rest of the bottle of wine as he passed it - might as well finish it - and he stumbled to the side of it, dropping down dramatically when he was able to. As he drank, he gaze up at the ceiling, the only illumination in the entire room coming from the dying embers in the fireplace nearby.

It was difficult to say how much time had passed, and Ryder was unsure if he had fallen asleep or just entirely zoned out into a drunken stupor, but he suddenly found himself hyperfocusing. Something had triggered his awareness, and despite the state he was in, he pushed himself up into a sitting position, squinting as he peered around the now-dark room. The fire had completely died, leaving it pitch black, and it took a few moments to bring anything into focus, his intoxicated state not helping whatsoever. When he did finally clear his vision enough to make most things out, he found himself confused, leaning forward and squinting even further.

There at the foot of his bed, stood a dark, shadow-like form. It was a blob, barely able to be made out, but it was definitely humanoid and definitely female. Ryder rubbed his eyes, expecting the phantom to disappear, but when he opened them again, it was still there. A hand reached out, as though he were intent to grab it, but as soon as his fingers came into contact, it vanished. His arm jerked back, opposite hand rubbing at the one that touched it despite nothing having been done to it. He stared at the spot where the figure had been, confusion and shock mixed together with uncertainty.

”What the fuck was that?”
