Bhaeldron is a nation on the third circle. It is inhabited by many stationary tribes. These tribes all live in strongholds constructed almost entirely from wood, with small amounts of stone. The chieftain of the tribe is not the chieftain because their parents ruled the tribe, but because they won the contest that decides on the next chieftain. The contests are knockout competitions where tribesmen and women duel each other, unarmed. The eventual winner is named the new chieftain. Anyone caught cheating is stoned to death by the rest of the tribe. The tribes are for the most part independent but all answer to the Overlord. Unlike the minor chieftains, the position of Overlord is hereditary. Any chieftain who feels that they should be the Overlord may fight the Overlord to the death for the position. If they win, they will have the greatest authority in all of Bhaeldron and their tribe will be seen as the strongest tribe. Bhaeldron is covered in steep, granite hills which in turn are covered in grass and often snow.
