Introduction

Plot- For years the Sinking islands have been a mystery and the Mer which inhabit them even more so. It isn’t long before a researcher sets out for this island wising to know more about he lost ruins and the mer. they wishes to commutate with hem if he can and him and his assistant sets out to do so.

The researcher isn’t the only one interested in the Mer though a scientist also wishes to study them. He considers them nothing more than fish however and wishes to capture one to dissect, maybe even sell them if they can. Him and his assistant head towards the island as well.

A treasure hunter hears of the ruins and at once thinks about the treasure that could be found there. They know nothing of the Mer but sets out
anyone hoping to get their hands on some treasure.

Rogue Mer have migrated from the cold harsh arctic. They are a brutal as there former environment would suggest. Their culture although similar to the Mer of the ruins but different in some aspects. The easily make their way towards the island.

Location- A small Tropical Island, off the coast of Barony. This isle has been slowly sinking in the water for decades. The left side of the island is still above water but the right side is half submerged. On the right side of the island was built a large architect ruins, half of this amazing structure was outside above ground while another half a network of large coven and tunnels was below ground. The half that is below ground because of erosion of the island has become submerged in water. And a lot of the walls have fallen down and opened up to the sea. The Mer once only inhabiting the area around the island and the shallow swamps and large tidal pools moved in the ruins making their small hollow dens in the crumbling rock.

Features

Mer have very long tails, at least twice the size of human’s legs. There is the large fin at the end of their tails than there are fins on the sides of their tails and a larger one on the small of their back down where their butt would be. These fin flare out to manoeuvre around tight corners and small crevices inside the ruins where they made their homes. These side fins are brightly coloured in green and blues and sometimes rare streaks of purple and pink. They are brightly coloured to attract mates and flare out when around a Mer they are interested in. (Mer mate for life) Tails on males are thicker and stronger while females tend to be slim but still strong.

Image

Facial features are extremely smooth on females and a little rougher on males but not much. Most Mer wear they hair long although there are some who cut it short. There gills are on either side of their necks, these close up when the Mer on land. Mer have slightly sharper teeth than people this is so they can easily into their food, small fish and different types of sea vegetation. Mer unlike mermaids are not friends of fish cannot speak their language or speak with them telepathically.

Mer have pale skin because of the fact they are under water so much and don’t receive much sun, although Mer that make their homes in the pools on the left side of the island tend to have a little more color to them. Mer skin is also smoother and tougher than human skin

In the front of the female tail there is a scale that retracts during intercourse, some with the males a scale retract and there you know becomes apparent. There of course isn’t going to be any mature content in this RP I only included this info to show that a human and Mer relationship is possible but it has and always will end in ruin.

Mer can only survive up about 2 hours above water. It a lot like how whale hold their breath while underwater only it switched. Mer gills close and they hold their breath above water, they can still speak and stuff of course.

Culture

Mer can speak a few human languages they learn fast and depending on where they’ve been pick up things. Mer however cannot speak above ground and do not have a language of their own. Instead Mer use body langue to speak to each other while in water.
Two examples of Mer communication-

A female loosely wrapping her tail or brushing her tail against a male is considered flirting. The more tightly there tails are wrapped together the more intimate it is considered. Mer kiss too but only their actual mates, they use their tails to court each other until then.
If a Mer hits another more tail it can mean their being playful or it can mean β€˜go away.’ Depending on the situation of the Mer involved it usually obvious what they telling the other Mer by the facial expression they have while hitting the other Mer.

Mermaids do not wear clothes they don’t need them because ether bodies adjust to whatever temperature they are exposes to. There do however wear accessories, old jewellery found in the ruins or sometime sold netting for shawls. Some don’t bother unlike popular belief Mer are not vain creatures and do not have beautiful voices that can put people in trances.

Mer are hunters, they are intelligent as any human, maybe even more, and they just have a different way of living. The do not hunt humans or attack them useless they feel threatened.

Long ago before the Mer made their home in the ruins, before the great even began to sink below the waves an ancient civilization made their home on it. the Mer helped each other grow and evolve as the world changed. Shortly after the island began to sink the civilization left the island and their temples behind. Nothing is currently known about these people, the Mer are the only ones who might remember what they represented but they aren’t about to tell their secrets. Researchers from around the world have traveled to the island hoping to discover its’ lost history.

The Mer have continually sabotaged each attempt. Mer haven’t trusted human for along time. Who could blame them, along with the researchers other have made their way to this island stealing the Mer away, stealing from their ancient home. The Mer have since learned to defend themselves, going as far as to set huge gapping rocks around Their Island and stirring the waters whenever ships approach. These attempts shave worked but some people still always manage to slip though.

The island itself to a rare find. On one half of the islands are the ruins with their maze of underwater tunnels and open caverns with waterfalls and huge pillar reaching from the ceiling down into the dark water. Water plats of all kind weave in and out of the structure holding it together. Vines have spread across the top and hung down thought the holes in the ceiling. The other side of the island is just as beautiful. With rich lagoons. Full of shallow warm water and brightly coloured fish, with large swimming holes with slat water, and tunnels that flow under the island and back out to sea. In the surrounding water of the island are large bodies of coral, the Mer have purpose let this grow out of control to block out big ships from nearing the island.

Each Mer has its preferred home; some Mer makes their dens among the gnarled roots of the swamps while others inside the small crevices of the ruins. Some choose to leave in the dark salt water tunnels under the island, their homes tunnelled in the sides. Some of the braver ones choose to make their homes in the bright coral surrounding the island. It’s these Mer that stir the waves whenever ships approach and laugh whenever one hits a rock, Mer can be quite cruel at times just like humans can.

Isabella had been waiting for this day for what seemed like forever. All those years spent in a boring classroom and then all the time she had to live in a awful desert studying plants. What plants, was the question she posed to her supervisors, but now she called her own shots. Her and Elliott Jones, her assistant, were home free. Of course Isabella was in charge but honestly she could care less what Elliott did, as long as it did not upset the balance of nature.

The thought of being on a perfect climate, deserted island with nothing but herself, some tools, and occasionally Elliott thrilled her. All those things she could take samples off and the Mer! It was only a myth, but Isabella knew they had to be there. Her mind was flooded with questions. To many to even analyze. She stood at the bow of the boat letting her chocolate hair whip into the wind but it soon became a nuisance so using to tanned fingers she french braided it down her head until only a few loose curls danced around her. In midst of the salty ocean smell was another scent. It filled her nose with a smell distinct to tropical trees, moist dirt and decay.

Her stomach was in a knot as she tried to get a better look. There it was. Rising from the water like Atlantis itself was a small sunken island. One side rose from the water and the other had a few pillars arising from the water, but that was it. Her icy blue eyes could see no further. Obviously they would be setting up camp on the unsunken side, hopefully there would be a lagoon of sorts. Isabella had already took the time to pull out and organize everything they would need to bring on shore. That consisted of a tent, two sleeping bags, a back pack full of supplies like bug spray, another bag with research equipment, a bag with food, and then her own personal belongings then whatever Elliott wanted to bring. Then there was all the scuba gear, but Isabella did not need it. She had an invention of her own. A small mouthpiece filled with elements that react with the salt water to produce oxygen allowing her to breath underwater without all the gear. The only issue was that she was not positive if it worked. It had done well in her lab experiment, but this was a whole different environment. All she wanted out of it was twenty minutes tops, anything longer would pose an issue seeing as she was not built like a fish with a swim bladder.

Suddenly the ship began to rock back and forth. The waves carrying it away from it's desired destination. Just like the fairy tales Isabella read as a child. Mer liked to protect their homes, but she never thought they would actually try to wreck her boat. It only took her a second to cross the boat and reach the wheel turning it abruptly in the direction they wanted to go. The small island began to reveal itself a little at a time. There was a small lagoon protected by jagged rocks.

In a few minutes they had dropped their anchor, making sure not to hit any coral reef, and made their way into a bright yellow safety raft filled to the brim with everything they would need to survive on the small island. The small engine propelled them easily through the rocks and into the warm clear water of the inlet. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. Tree's were graced with moss and birds echoed through them, probably surprised by the humans that had made their way onto land unscathed. The white sand only extended for fifty feet then it was back to vine covered dirt, but there would be time to investigate that later. Elliott and Isabella worked quietly setting up their own small tents and getting camp set up. She hummed to a familiar tune as she placed everything in it's proper place. Each note she sang was quiet but soothing and each high note was perfectly on key. Besides researching, singing was the only thing she was good.. no... great at. She knew Elliott wouldn't mind, seeing as she hadn't said anything the entire trip about her quiet singing. "We're finally here Elliott.. excited?" Isabella stood looking out at the water.

The bright island sun shone on the Crystal lagoon, filtered though the trees. Colorful fish darted around the submerged logs and planes. The water was shallow starting out maybe only a foot with white sand at the bottom. It steadily got deeper by a few feet but not much. Twisted tree roots dipping into the water from all sides, a few willow trees draped shadows over some of the water. This was only one small part of the huge lagoon which twisted and turned over the left side of the island, sometimes narrow sometimes wide. Some spots of the lagoon where dark pits, where you couldn’t tell the depth these led to the underwater currents.

Near one of these bigger pits that a small inlet branched off falling into one fo the bigger and warmest part of the lagoon, the water was shallow here only about three feet deeps and hidden by many old and engorged trees. A thin silver tinged blue tail lazily flicked though the water. Nim sighed a little as she sunbathed in the warm lagoon; she was on her back lightly touching the surface of the water, tail moving just enough to keep her near the top. Her eyes were closed and she floated barley conscious. Despite the fact however she was very relaxed she still kept an eye out at the noises around her. The sinking island of still broke to some large predators who viewed her as little more than lunch. After what seemed like forever Nim eased herself over, and with one strong flick of her tail dove to the bottom of the lagoon, easily threading her way around the roots and reaching out to brush the small fish that darted around her.

~

Elliot watched as the object of her excitement slowly rose out the horizon. She had been excited every since they had gotten on the ship, she must have circled the whole ship dozens of time not being able to stay still. She glanced over at her boss Isabella, who as quietly singing to herself and had been for the whole ship. Elliot didn’t mind she loved music and Isabella happened be quite a good singer. Elliot could play the violin like a master but when it came to singing she was little below average. It wasn’t long before they were in reaching distance of the island. Quickly Elliot and Isabella carried everything onto the small yellow raft; Elliot looked nervously over the side of the boat the water seemed to spit up at her.

It wasn’t long however before they reached land and set up camp beside s Isabella’s. After they were one Elliot sat down looking at the scenery around her. It was beautiful and something she hadn’t really seen often with her life in the city. She hoped she would get to experience as much of it as she could. "We're finally here Elliott... Excited?" Elliot glanced up at the question; Isabella was looking out on to the water. β€œVery.” She answered enthusiastically, maybe a little too loudly. She made sure to tone down her voice before she spoke again. β€œIt late afternoon, should we check out a little of this side of the island today, and head towards the other side tomorrow?” Although Elliot was a little inpatient to get to the ruins, she knew that they wouldn’t make it before dark and they had already set up camp here.

Deep underneath the ocean surface where the water was a deep blue color, a Mer sat on a rock eating a fish like it was corn on the cob. Her sharp teeth tore into the meat and took out any bones that got stuck in her teeth. Her midnight blue hair helped her blend in with her surroundings, while her pale skin made her stand out like the rest of her kind. As she ate, she watched other Mer β€˜talk’ to each other as they communicated using body language. Just as she finished her fish, the Mer felt a tap on her shoulder and saw her eldest brother, Pior, who had the same hair and eyes as she.

~Tiana, what are you doing out here near the reef?~ the male Mer asked her using body language.

~Because I felt like it.~ Tiana answered after finishing her fish.

~Humans have made it near our home again, it’s dangerous to be here now.~

~Oh they have?~

~Tiana for once take this seriously.~

~Okay, okay, you worry too much.~

~You’re my sister, I am entitled to worry. Besides, mother had me come fetch you.~ Pior added with a smirk.

Tiana frowned. She honestly didn’t blame her family for worrying about her because she was the most curious out of all of them, especially when humans were around. Tiana might be curious, but she wasn’t reckless.

~All right, let’s go.~ replied Tiana.

As the siblings swam, Tiana looked around at what she considered her home. She loved the world she lived in. The ancient ruins and the diverse flora and fauna created a place of enchantment and curiousity. She could understand why humans would be drawn here, but like most inhabitants here, she didn’t like it. Tiana admitted that the humans have done some bad things, but she had hoped that not all of them were bad. After all, not all Mer were good, but Tiana didn’t bother to point that out to anyone.

When Tiana returned home, her brother left for his own home. Most of her family lived near the ancient ruins while several others lived in the salt water tunnels. Her parents lived in the salt water tunnels and Tiana preferred it because she felt living underneath the island was the safest place whenever there were storms. As Tiana went to her own private quarters, she wondered what kind of humans showed up this time and did hope that they wouldn’t bring too much trouble.

Isabella was so submerged in nature that she almost did not realize Elliott had responded.

β€œVery.” She answered enthusiastically, maybe a little too loudly. She made sure to tone down her voice before she spoke again. β€œIt late afternoon, should we check out a little of this side of the island today, and head towards the other side tomorrow?”

Despite the fact she was ever so anxious to explore, truth of the matter is was that the sky would soon be getting dark and instead of exploring they needed to take notes on how life on the island went so they could be prepared. Things such as what bugs came out at what time, what birds were around, ocean life, tide, and setting of the sun would all be great factors in their exploration.

"For tonight, how about we stay here instead of explore. We need to take the island pieces at a time, so for now, let's look at the lagoon it's surrounding beach area and some of the closer forest?" Isabella paused, folding her arms over her stomach, "Elliott, I know I am your boss, but unless I give you direct orders feel free to do as you please. We both have different agendas I know you are aching to see the ruins and I want to see if the Mer are actually real. Before you go anywhere just take a radio and a compass." She was pretty lenient when it came to these sort of things. "I'd prefer if we stayed near here for tonight seeing as you won't get far before sundown. Also.. Don't venture to far into the water without me close by... just for safety measures."

With that ran her hand over tanned skin which had begun to become a tiny bit clammy in the heat. As much as she hated to she removed her vest and shirt leaving her in a pair of khaki shorts and a peach swimsuit top that was covered with a tight white tank top. She wasn't worried about Elliott doing anything, they were both girls and friends at that. "I'm going to go check out the shallows if you need me just call." It only took her a moment to dig through her bag and find her waterproof notebook and pen which she stuck in her pocket as she slipped off her work boots leaving her feet bare.

Once she had made her way towards the water she pulled her notepad back out and began to jot down notes about temperature, feeling, and plant life. She had become so into her work that she almost did not notice when she was knee deep in the water. It was warm and tropical as it brushed against her olive skin bringing relief to the tiny bit of sweat that had formed on her.

Out of habit she began to sing, louder than she had before. Elliott was about fifty to seventy five feet away so her singing would come to her as a quiet whisper in the wind.

No, I can't take one more step towards you
β€˜Cause all that's waiting is regret
Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live, half alive
And now you want me one more time

Who do you think you are?
Runnin' 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are?

She continued to sing her eyes getting locked into a trance in the clear water.

(I do not own this song, it belongs to Christina Perri called Jar of Hearts)

The last mer to see Eros that morning ended up in tears. Like always. She was convinced that he was the one, her mate for life. She knew it deep within her heart and he knew it too, just that he wasn’t aware of it himself. At least, that’s what she thought.

Eros swam smoothly toward the ruins, feeling a bit exhausted. He had to explain to her – rather convince the poor heartbroken mer- that it was simply impossible to stay together. His mother – the jealous kind- was terribly against it and he tried so many times to reason with her for the sake of their love, but she sworn to kill herself if he wouldn’t end it. It was perhaps the twentieth time Eros had used that lie in the past week. His excuses and explanations got better and more realistic with each passing year, so much so that at one point he started to believe them himself. It took only a second for him to go and yell at his mother – loving and kind in reality - for being nosy, but something distracted him from his path.

It was a song. Rather, a voice. A hautingly beautiful voice, more beautiful than he ever heard before. And that was something because there was no better voice in the mer land than his own. This not only intrigued him, but also annoyed him. Who dared to possess such a voice? He followed it and the voice led him somewhere near the shore, out of the water, close to the spot he used to come almost daily to look at himself in the water.

Then he knew why the voice had no match. Because it belonged to a human. Gazing at the frail figure from beneath the water’s surface, a couple of feet away from Isabella, Eros circled the little spot in which she was..playing? What was she doing there anyway? No human dared to enter that part of the island, not since ten years ago when the merpeople killed a whole crew and plunged the heads of their victims into spears, letting them in the sand like a fence. Everyone believed that cannibals lived within the island’s forest.

He saw her shadow in the water and easily enough, like a sea serpent, he raised his head above the water’s surface, coiling and uncoiling his tail in the depths with graceful movements. She was beautiful to look at. He never had a female human before. Eros wondered how her tanned skin felt, it it was silky and smooth or harsh? He also wondered how it would be to kiss her, how it would feel like to hold her body in which hot blood flows, so different and so much warmer than the mer’s cold skin.

Eros approached the young researcher with caution and with a grin on his handsome face. She was alone, that was good.

I am the love that shines
From the depths of the ocean
I come to you bearing my heart
Open like a sea shell on the beach
Take its pearl, it belongs to you only

His voice was clear and charming, smooth as silk. He didn’t know her song, but he improvised on the way with the lyrics he heard from the sailors. His English sounded strange, different, like he had an accent of some sort, but it did not matter. These were probably the only words he knew from the human language. Improvising was one of his best skills after all. He rose from the water, until all his torso was out in the sun. His long hair concealed the fins from his ears and Eros looked like a human taking a bath.

The undercurrents in the water had suddenly become much more powerful than before, little did Isabella know it was the tail of a Mer that was changing the patterns in the water. Her eyes had become focused on writing for a moment so she did not see Eros when he lifted himself from the water. When his voice struck her eardrums she looked up confused.

The first thing she noticed was a man, obviously, a half naked man. A blush immediately spread across her face but her eyes were to interlocked on looking at him. His features were harder than a humans, and despite only half his body showing he was taller than her. His dark blue fell in waves, like the ocean, around his features.

I am the love that shines
From the depths of the ocean
I come to you bearing my heart
Open like a sea shell on the beach
Take its pearl, it belongs to you only

The song was familiar then it struck her. It was the same song her father used to sing to her before he went on his travels out at sea. He told her it reminded him of her face when the weather became rough or research was not going as planned. How did this man know it? Surely he had never met her father. Then it struck her that she was ever so rudely staring at the man, but something wasn't right about him. She just couldn't pin it. She had not seen any other boats in the area that could of held him. Her chest rose and fell with a breath as her eyes traveled down to look in the water, where there were no feet.

"Oh my goodness." Her eyes were widened with excitement as she stuck her notebook back into her pocket. "Hello... I'm Isabella." Speaking to a Mer was a strange concept, she did not even know if he understood English despite the fact he had sung to her. She wanted to reach out and stroke his skin to know what it felt like, see his tail, hear him speak. "Oh I did not even realize how rude I am being, this is your home and I am just standing in it!" Isabella's arctic eyes looked down for a moment before she backed up until the water stood only at her middle calf.

Aboard a large yacht 2 treasure hunters were preparing to go to an island that few knew about. Tiberius and Alexander were supposed to be taking kayak to the island due to the stories that larger ones get destroyed on the rocks around the shore. "Alex I'm going now. The yacht isn't getting closer so you'll have to launch from here unless you want to head back to the mainland and find another way, just remember this is the only way I'm paying for." With that he climbed in his kayak and began heading for shore.

As he got closer the waves started to get more violent but he pressed on, in his tiny kayak he could easily avoid big rocks he was sure of it. As he closed in on the reef he saw something he didn't recognize then it hit him like a brick wall "Mer, I thought they were extincted!" He was so surprised at the sight that he almost turned around. "If they are still guarding this island then there must be something valuable there. I must have it I'll be the most famous treasure hunter ever." He then started to develop plans to grab some treasure and even a Mer if he got the chance.

When he arrived on The Sinking Island to find it looking abandoned. It wasn't what he had expected but then again it wasn't his average treasure hunt. He looked down at the map he had of the island and noticed that he was still quite a ways from the ruins but it would only be a days travel. "I have a days travel ahead of me." he said aloud to himself. "I'm going to need to make a net if I plan on taking one of those beasts back with me. And where is Alex, he should have been right behind me?" He looked out to where the yacht was and saw it was headed back to shore like it was supposed to. "I don't see Alex so I'm just going to have to assume he stayed on and is headed back to shore. I'll have to leave a message just in case he's headed my way."

The letter read-
Alex I left this message so that you can find me. I headed for the ruins, they're about a days travel from here but it should be an easy trek according to the map. I'll leave signs of my trail so you can follow me. And remember kid be careful you're new at this.

As his Kayak slipped onto the sand, he realized how much he hated boats. It wasn’t that Alex was afraid of boats or that he got sick on them. He just really hated boats. Therefore, when he got out of the kayak he took a deep breath, and then kicked the boat. After he had vented his frustration, he dragged the kayak up further onto the beach on started unpacking. He spent the next few minutes putting his AK back together, wrestling with his duffel bag, checking his clips, strapping his spear gun to his leg, and putting the kayak in a safe place.

β€œNow…where to?” He had memorized the map that Tiberius had had. To the North was a rather large mountain, to the South was the lagoon, and straight east was the rest of the island. Unlike his partner, Alex liked exploring more then actually finding anything. However, being a partner meant being a team, and that did not entail gallivanting all over the place. β€œSo…if I know Tiberius he’ll head east, towards the grand prize.” This meant anything that wasn’t nailed down. He then started to move heading east, then he planned to head north towards the mountain then cross the lagoon in the center of the island, and then back east. It would probably take him a day and a night to reach the other side.

It wasn’t long till he realized he should have probably stayed on the beach. The foliage in this place was thick, and visibility was less then a few feet in front of him. β€œYa, not the smartest idea I’ve ever had.” He couldn’t even tell if he was still heading east. He stopped trying to gauge his surroundings. From where he was standing, it looked like any other section of tropical wilderness. β€œGreat!” He shook his head in frustration. β€œThat’s what I get for not leaving when Tiberius did. Well only one thing for it, keeping going forward.” And hope to god that you don’t end up going in circles.

Tiana was creating a shell neckless that she would eventually give to her only niece, who was only 2 years old. She planned on giving it to her on her 3rd birthday. Tiana loved kids for they had no care in the world. Right now she wasn't concerned about finding anyone, although her momma was starting to hint at the idea of finding a mate. She wonder if it was because three of her brothers were mated and one was in a serious relationship at the moment. Of course it was also hard to find a guy when one had four older brothers who tended to scare off any potential mates. That didn't even include her own father, who was ten times more protective of her. This was mostly due to the time when she nearly got stranded on the island thanks to a dare her brothers made her do when she was 10 and determinded to prove her worth. So she did the most foolish thing she could do and went swimming around the island in a storm and got washed up onto the beach. If her brothers hadn't found her, she would have died there. She now has a fear of storms.

As Tiana worked on the necklace, she finally came to a stopping point. The shells looked lovely. They were all the same kind and could only be found in the Ruins. She still needed several more shells, so Tiana went to go tell her mother she'd be going there. Her mother was hesitant with humans in the area and made Tiana promise to be back soon. Tiana nodded and left her home. As a rule she always took the safest routes because humans weren't the only threat to her kind. It was the time of year when predatory sharks were breeding.

When Tiana made it to the ruins, she knew exactly where to go. She didn't waste any time wandering the ruins because she honestly didn't want to risk being seen by humans. As curious of humans as she was, it was getting late and she didn't feel as safe at night as she did in the day time. As she went to where she found the shells last time, she became less anxious and more excited so she wasn't paying attention if she was being watched or not.

The girl looked at him surprised and a little confused at first, than bewildered and excited. She had seen his tail figure in the water and seemed to rather be happy about it. Did she know about the Mer? Cautiosly she backed away saying something. Maybe she was afraid, Eros thought and stood still. He didn’t want to scare her away.

He smiled and his eyes glittered. Slowly raising his tail from the water he wrapped it around him, from his back to his left shoulder, letting Isabella to take a good look at it. If she would flee there was nothing more he could do except jump and grab her by the legs, he couldn’t chase her on the shore. If she stayed, that meant he didn’t scare her after all. From there on she was would be trapped in his charms.

Eros stroke gently the end of his tail, his gazed locked on hers without saying a word. He didn’t understand her words, just went with her body language. Isabella didn’t move, she just stared at him, not believing her eyes. The Mer let go of his tail that went down in the water with a huge splash, soaking her clothes along with his hair. He laughed wholeheartedly, letting her know that he wasn’t a threat to her, than stretched out his hand, biding Isabella to take it or to come closer.

Nim frowned, her tail lashing out at the sand. Her gaze was locked on a human a few meters away. When she had spotted the boat approaching she had slide herself into a nearby clump of roots, wrapping her tail around herself. Nim was now waiting for him to move on so she could swim into the nearest salt water tunnel and out of the lagoon. Despite her inpatients and her annoyance at him ruining her relaxing nap, she couldn’t’ help but watch the human closely. This was her first time seeing one so close and she was a little curious. Due to her habit of venturing out into open water further than she should she had seen large ships, but never the humans on them.

This human had dark collared hair and pale skin, kind of like a Mer. She had also caught a glimpse of scars along his arms. Nim flicked her tail again when the human paused and looked around; she was starting to grow uncomfortable with her position. Finally after what seemed like ages the man and his boat moved further along the lagoon. Nim slipped out of her hiding place, stretching and then swim over to the deeper part of the lagoon, reaching the bottom she paused herself over the edge of the dark salt water tunnel. Shivering at the sudden change of temperature she swim deeper inside. Only to pause and glance back.

She wondered where the human was heading, towards the ruins maybe. She swam in a slow circle as she thought. If the man was indeed heading to the ruins, he could be a threat. In fact she should probably do alert the others. If he wasn’t a threat though she didn’t want to be the cause of his death if it come to that. Making her decision Nim swam back out the tunnel easily catching up with the boat. Making sure to stay close to the roots and growth, away from the clearer parts of the water. She followed it at least three meters behind. She found herself growing more nervous the further they got from the tunnels, if he were to catch her now… She shook her head. She’d be careful and be ready to dart away if necessary.

Solice had clung to the back of the large yacht ever since it had set sail from the main land. Her tail gently gliding along with the currents its great bow created. Camouflaged with the soothing foam and bubbles the ships threw up to the surface of the sea she was sure her β€œhitch hike” had gone unnoticed. As they drifted she watched the dark waters beneath her swirl and lighten as the great reef made it presence known. For a moment a sly thought crept into her mind; β€˜what if they don’t stop?’

In her years of travelling Solice had met few accidents, but the few she had witnessed had been horrific, unruly sailors too proud to admit defeat and driving their great wooded casts into solid reef, their glistening treasure sinking to the abyss so that she could gathered and hoard them for herself. Once a small dingy had been shaken to pieces by a thundering storm. Solice had watched mesmerized as the crew drifted into the darkness, their arms still reaching towards the light. Solice felt a cool chill creep up her spine; she didn’t want this to happen again.

As the waters became warmer and the sea life began to cluster around the alien presence, schools of fighting fish and singing seabirds, the yacht slowed its speed. Solice moved her head beneath the waves and took in the surroundings, the sinking island. A place she had visited many a time, but never had she seen a ship move so close so meaningfully. Solice removed her grasp and moved about the boat just as a soft Kayak was flung into the waves. As by instinct she dove deep into the waters but lurked just beneath, her white hair rippling about her as her curiosity rose. As the kayak cut through the waves, Solice swum silently beneath it in its long shadow, Every now and then when it seemed the waves began to bully it too close to the rocks, she would move up and carefully push it away with one hand, guiding it secretly to safety.

Soon the waters were so shallow and clear Solice could no longer conceal herself beneath the kayak, convinced the sailor was safe she gave one firm thrust with her long shimmering albino tail and darted into the echoing reef before her. As she did, she teasingly let her tail skim the surface of the water, reflecting the golden sunlight on its pearly scales. Then as she disappeared into the deep, the only sign of her was the small mesh of burning red hair on the crown of her head, and then, just as a phantom her ghostly shape melted into the bubbles.

Nikara had woken groggily. he had not had a nice sleep in a long time. something had been nagging him during his dreams but when he awoke he never remembered what it was. it disturbed him a little but no matter. he was awake now, with a shakes of his head , a stretch and a quick swimm aruond his small sleeping area he was wide awake now, he went and hunted a little food at first mainly a bit of crab, when he returned he was greeted by the other mer and he nodded

"news?" was all nikara said to one of the younger mer and listened intently when he was told
"um, another ship arrived today but some mer already went to disturb the land people" he nodded after they 'conversation' using body language as mer do. he swam a short distance out of the ruins venturing into the coral reef. not noticing a thing he went back to his sleeping place at the mouth of one tunnel in the ruins to get his lance and net. he then ventured further outward looking for this boat, he had a hunch more mer would be disrupting it but he best check. humans could be dangerous.

when he got to the boat he saw it deserted, both on the boat and under it. that was odd which could mean two things. the mer disrupting the boat had taken the humans down. which he thought was unlikely or that the humans escaped somehow..."how could the land people escape?" he thought to himself. just to be on the safe side, some would call paranoid he went to search the ruins once mroe coming accross a bright yellow...thing bobbing on the surfface of the water. he looked curious and looked all around it untill he saw the engine. then he knew the 'land people' as he called them were on the land half of their home, he took a hidden posistion near the boat and peeked his eyes out of the water looking where he saw a male and female land person. one looking over the laggon singing. he watched for a while to see if he could hear them, his lance close to their yellow bopping thing. if they went close to it he would steab the yellow thing hoping it was a boat to sink. he gave it a squeeze it felt soft. and it bended to his grip. so he assumed stabbing it would sink it, but for now he jsut continued to watch. his light blue hair goigng sraight down untill the half in the water is seen spreaing out wide it got dark and nikara quickly wondered how long he must have been stalking the land people
"all day it seems" he thought to himself strange. he didnt normally sleep late and hew asnt normally this persistant. but the safety of the others was at stake possibly and so he continued to watch the male and female land people

~Isabella~

Somehow Isabella had managed not to whip out her notebook and immediately begin writing in it. Her eyes would be able to tell her hands what to write later in the evening, but for now she simply could not move. The mer in front of her had lifted his tail from the water, each scale reflected the sun like the tiny sapphire gems on her silver hand me down ring. He ran his ivory hand along his tail like Isabella wanted to do, but that would come in time. For right now she was not sure what exactly things like that meant.

Suddenly it hit her. Mer did not have a language, or at least not English. He simply could recite the song out of memory, sort of like a bird. Physical gestures would be the only way to communicate for now, though she had confidence that they could learn or vice versa. A smile played over his lips as his eyes sparkled along with his tail, each twinkle invited her to step closer to him.

In a flash he dove under the water. The turquoise fins of his tail splashed a hefty amount of water at her. His laugh echoed around her, carrying over the clear water. He extended his hand to her. To Isabella it seemed like a friendly gesture of his kind as she had no idea what customs were. So she smiled back, her perfect straight white teeth gleamed in the sun.

She took a step closer to him in the water, finishing off the sailors song he had begun earlier.

Wrap it tight to keep it warm
As love cannot survive in the cold
Shut your eyes one of wonder
In the morn' I shall return home
Until then I ask you keep
This little token to remember me.

Her words floated in the air and were carried lightly by the breeze. Each note she sang was held out perfectly and sounded angelic. With that she extended her dark tanned hand to the mer in front of her and took one more step and placed her hand in his. The fact she was actually touching a real mer made her head spin, but something kept her feet planted in the wet sand at the bottom of the lagoon. She placed one hand on her chest. "Isabella." She gestured to herself, "My name is Isabella." Keeping her hand in his she gestured to him, "What is your name?"

=Drake=

The wild salty wind whipped through the blonde man's hair wildly making it sit disheveled onto of his head. Drake had been traveling for four days and was trying to hold onto his sanity has he had come alone. His heart pumped wildly at the thought of seeing an actual Mer. It had been his life's journey to find a half human half finned beast and now he had heard of just the right place. The thought of being able to dissect one seemed fantastic. To see how they worked and breathed underwater would bring in enough money to have him live happily and comfortably for the rest of his life.

The island soon came into view. From afar he could make out that half was sunken, there was a large peak (like a mountain) and what seemed to be ruins protruding from the water. None of those things held interest to him unless they lead him to the Mer. Drake anchored his small boat close to one of the coral reefs that was teeming to life with brightly colored fish he had never seen before. Again, he could care less about the fish though they could provide valuable information later in his expedition.

From the back of is boat detached a smaller kayak looking contraction with a small battery powered motor in which he had already placed his belongings. He planned on sleeping in the boat so the only things necessary for him to bring was food and water. He had to get the mer to trust him before taking one of their kind. So for now he simply planned on observing.

Once inside the lagoon he heard a voice. It was a woman's and it sounded more so like an angel than a human. The motor made a small noise as it hummed him to the shore. He had not expected the lagoon to be so large, but very faintly from across on his shore, he could see two figures in the water. They could have been just rocks, but the voice had resonated from one of them so he decided to investigate.

as nikara watched he ducked his head under water and noticed the second mer. he was being freindly to the female land person.... odd... he wished for him to be careful as he silently watched then his ears twitched as a second humming noise came into view. it was a second land person on a similar thing bobbing in the water next to him. he hissed a little and readied his lance, but he didnt strike just yet he watched his eyes still peeking above the water staring at this land new land person (drake) as the man got closer nikara readied his net. he planned to throw the net ovet he thing and tie it from underbeath trapping the land person then pushing his boat like thing back in the direction he came. some humans would see him and keep him safe

again he would call it playing it safe. others would call him slightly paranoid almost fanatical about his distrust of the land people. but for now he watched. he swam into a position that allowed him to watch the land person on the boat thing, the female talking at the second mer and the remaining one on the land, after a while he ducked underwater and went to the second mer to communicate with him, his body swaying in the language of the mer

*what are you doing? why are you revealing yourself to the land people?*

he swayed with both anger and worry in his movements his tail whipped to show the anger while his hands shook slightly to show the worry. on his face was a small frown

Isabella’s clothes clinged to her body, revealing some of her tanned skin from underneath. She came closer finishing the song with her beautiful voice and placed her fragile hand in his. She was smooth as silk to the touch, warm and full of life. The girl placed her other hand on her chest. β€œIsabella” she said two times in a row. Is that what humans meant by β€œchest’? he wondered.

Something in the water caught his attention. It was a male Mer, having the look of a warrior and the body of an acient sea god. He was more Mer than human in appearance and far more powerful than any other Mer Eros had ever seen by the looks of his muscles. The Mer gestured to him, asking why Eros chose to reveal himself to a human.

"I do what I please, warrior-mer! She's no threat to us...rather the other way around" he replied.

Out of the corner of the eye Eros saw a figure approaching them. It was still far away, at a safe distance as one might say, but the Mer were always cautios. His eyes shifted from Isabella’s beautiful face to that side and then back again. If another human, maybe someone she knew would take her away, he might never get the chance to see or to touch her ever again.

Instead of replying with words, Eros pulled her in the water, wrapping his other hand around her waist and started to swim with incredible speed taking her along. They had both their heads out of the water for a while, than after a couple of minutes he dove forcing her to do the same and signaled Nikara to follow them if he wished so. In all the excitement Eros forgot that humans couldn’t breathe underwater. He didn’t take her on the usual path the Mer used, nor through the tunnels, just went straight as far as he could from the shore. It didn’t take long before Isabella started to lose her air and she struggled to get out of his grasp.

The terrible mistake he did struck him like lightning and Eros had to let her go. He pulled her gently out of the water and let her take a deep breath. The figure was getting closer, had the human seen them already? With regret, Eros had to let Isabella go for now. And he was so close... Eros looked at her apologetic, almost with puppy eyes. He was a good actor after all and he wanted her to know that he wasn't a threat in spite of what he did, almost drowning her.

Then an idea flashed in his mind. He took her notepad and let her go, heading full speed to the bottom of the sea. If she cherished that object, she would definitely come back. If not, at least he had something from a human to boast with. It wasn’t what he set out to get in the first place, but it would have to do. Leaving her behind, Eros didn't glance back once. He didn't want the other human to see him.

As Tiberius moved further inland the terrain slowly became more impassable to him. "I guess I'll have to go the the lagoon to get there faster." he though aloud to himself. He had been on the island for about 6 hours already so he was getting hungry and thirsty from all his traveling on the island. Tiberius had been in situations like this before but he had fresh water then but now he was surrounded by undrinkable water. "Water water everywhere but no a drop to drink." he said as he started to laugh at the thought. Food was everywhere though so he knew starvation was not going to be a problem but he didn't want to dehydrate either so for now he only ate a few berries trying to conserve as much water as possible.

As he arrived at the lagoon Tiberius noticed a girl out in the water an immediately jumped in to help. As he got to her she didn't appear to be all there. "Ma'm, are you ok?" he asked, but she just continued to stare off in the water. "Hey miss there are Mer out here you don't need to be in the water. Do you hear me? Looks like I'm dragging you back to shore." So he grabbed her by one of her arms and started the trip back to shore. "Miss you're lucky I came along there is no telling what could have happened if a Mer found you and not me. Still unresponsive. Crap, miss I need you to answer me show me yer alive." When he got to shore he set her down in a upright sitting position. "Stay here. I'm going to get wood for a fire so we can dry off. Do you understand me." He paused for a second waiting for a reply. "O forget it just don't move lady." With that Tiberius headed into the tree line to find some wood to make a fire so they could dry off.

Tiana had found what she was look for. In one small β€˜bag’ she had the shells she needed. Her bag was actually not a bag at all. It was seaweed that had been weaved to make to look like a bag. It was pretty durable. After finding what she needed, the female mer decided it was time to head back home. As she started swimming back, she thought she saw someone swimming with someone else. What in the world was that? The one swimming was obviously a mer for no human could swim that fast. Curious, Tiana swam closer while hiding behind things as she went along and saw the male mer and he was holding what looked to be a female human. It had to be female for she caught sight of her and it did not look male. The only humans Tiana ever saw were males and this one looked like nothing of the kind she ever saw. The male mer suddenly stopped and Tiana recognized him. It was Eros, who had a thing with the ladies. Tiana’s brothers told her never to talk to him or pay him any attention. She thought it was sound advice for a few of the females that became enthralled by Eros always seemed to have their heart broken because Eros’s mother never approved them. This didn’t sit right with Tiana.

Tiana’s thoughts were interrupted when she saw the female human struggle. This was a bit amusing, considering most females would like to be in Eros’s arms, but as Tiana looked closer, she figure out why the woman was struggling. It looked like she couldn’t breathe. When Tiana saw humans in the water, they usually had more gear on that clung to their bodies with a big thing on their backs and some kind of mask. While Tiana didn’t care to have humans here, she wasn’t about to see one die. She would have come out of her hiding space there, but Eros let the female go and she floated back up to the surface. Eros swam deeper with something in his hands and Tiana was at a lose what to do next. Concern for the human override any other emotion and she carefully swam to the surface. She almost burst through the water, but she was glad she only peaked through the water to see another human pull the female to the shore. Now who was that? This was really becoming out of hand for Tiana and she quickly went underwater before she could be spotted. She decided it was time to head home and began to swim back.

Solice watched from a far as the kayaking male struggled across the terrain. From the distance she watched his lips intensively. In her years stalking humans, Solice had learnt to lip read, this gave her the upper hand of spying and ease dropping without needing to get too close. He mumbled something about water, his dry lips flapping tiredly over the vowels as he spoke. Solice snapped her eye's about her, she didn't need water, and so she didn't have any. Her eyes subconsciously fell on the deserted yacht and within seconds she was speeding towards it, surely there was water aboard. Solice wriggled her way through the tight crevices and ditches formed by the corral, the echoing shadow of the yacht spilling above her. Solice swum around beneath the boat a couple of times, surveying it for a few moments. Sure the coast was clear she moved to its stern and pulled herself on board. As her body sucked in the salty air the scales on her tail dried up, burning slowly under the sun thick heat. The gills on her throat sealed and poisonous air streamed into her nose and mouth. For a moment, Solice lay there, adapting to her new surroundings.
"Water." She whispered urgently.
Solice clutched the railing of the yacht and pulled herself unsteadily about the swaying boat, scrimmaging here and there for prizes and of course, water, he ashes white tail flapping as she attempted to move about. At one point her lazy fin bumped against a small black box, it screamed a strange heavily beat song in reply to its attack and Solice picked up the music cube and decided she would keep it. She took some rope and threading it through the boxs handle tied it against her back. Next Solice found a long bent tube, unsure of its use, she tied it to her also. In the excitement of pirating the boat, she almost forgot the task that had brought her here. Grabbing at random objects that caught her eye and strapping them to her back.
"Water." She suddenly repeated, as if her own mind were scolding her.
Solice pulled herself roughly below deck and to the fridge, she knew of this place from her early visits aboard ships, A small white container that kidnapped cold air and held food and drinks for the men aboard. Solice drew in the frozen air, holding her head inside the great door and smiling as it cooled her brow. She then snatched Four small bottles of water and a long bar of something brown, adding them to her hoard.
In minutes the pirating was done. Solice threw herself back into the waves with a angry splash and made her way back to shore. As the water soothes her wrinkling tail the colour long gone from it due to many such adventures Solice spotted the man (Tiberius), this time however he was not alone. He was dragging another human, his expression filled with concern. Bobbing with just her head above water Solice frowned trying to understand. Perhaps another Mer had gotten to her, perhaps she was shipwrecked. Solice was not stupid, she knew that it would be far to dangerous to approach them now so she returned silently to the mans empty Kayak and slid the bottles and brown bar into the plastic belly before swimming back away to safer distance to stand guard.

Nikara looked confused at by eros's hosility and swim off. he then watched them swim about with a frown on his face, and so he just kept his eyes on the other human coming into the lagoon. he then felt something. he looked around and saw a female mer he swam up to tiana as she peeked above the water at the land people. when tiana was done he tapped her on the shoulder and swayed in the body language of the mer. he lowerd his net and lance and didnt look in the least bit threatening. he even flirted a tiny bit as was his nature

*did the thought of land people bring a mer as nice as you come looking for them? , do you also know who the other male is? i do not speak with the other mer much*

he only said a small compliment and wasnt too upfront or blatant. just a sly compliment to get her to talk, he almost glowed in the water as he was a full pale blue with bright green streaks on his tail admists the dark sea water. he gave tiana a freindly smile his tail waving slightly like his pale blue hair. he had a rusty chain belt on his tail where he stored his lance and net leaving his webbed hands free

*i have a feeling it may be dangerous here. that mer should be careful*

nikara gestured with a shake of his head. after tiana would answer him. or ignore him nikara swam up to look at the land people again and the one approaching. perhaps he should tell someone else he thought, but he then thought he didnt want others to get hurt. no, he would do this on his own. he looked to the yellow bobbing thing again and decided to look at a alter date swimming back with tiana

When Tiana was deep enough she stopped and looked back up to the surface. She wondered if the other human who helped the female was her mate or someone else. With several humans around, she wouldn’t be surprise. Humans were confusing. She didn’t know if they were solitary creatures or lived in communities. Most humans who had shown up in the past mostly came on their own, sometimes in pairs, or rarely in big groups. Only one time did a big group appeared. It was only the blessing of a huge storm and all the reefs that sunk the vessel they were on and those who didn’t drown were killed by the mer people that guarded that area. The sunken vessel was still there, only sharks inhabited that area now.

Tiana was shook out of her thoughts when someone tapped her on the shoulder. Turning around, she saw it was another mer and sighed with relief. She also recognized him, even though she never really talked to him that much. She couldn’t even remember his name, or was she even told? When he asked her who the other mer man was, she answered him.

~That was Eros. He likes females.~ she gestured simply.

Then she remembered his compliment and blushed. Being pale faced and the water being a blue green color, it was pretty obvious she was flushed. She giggled a bit and smiled sweetly. She enjoyed flirting, but wasn’t that good at it because she simply never had enough practice. Her sisters-in-law were giving her hints though on how to do it correctly.

~Well, I am glad we have strong mer men like you here to help protect us than.~ she complimented right back.

She wished the humans would leave though and life could get back to normal though. Why did humans keep coming here? It was a question that always bothered her.

~I am sorry, but what is your name? Mine is Tiana.~

Nikara grinned at the compliment and smiled even more at her giggle. it was a soft giggle that sounded nice he took a swim around tiana looking our around them his eyes finding the yellow bobbing boat things before looking at tiana again where he would gesture

*i would be glad to protect you, my name is nikara. its very nice to emet you. most mer do not talk to me. ive seen you a few times with the others.

i must ask you to forgive me if i seem forward. but what is that?*

he gestured to the seaweed bag that had been rattleing as tana swam he then swam around her again this time just watching her as they made their way back to the ruins

*are you collecting something?* he swayed questioningly. he was flirty yes but he never had much experience with females. he grew up alone, learning everything he knew from watching others. he knew the people should look out for each other and decided to take that role upon himself. while he didnt know the mer he wanted to protect them so they might get to know him later. it seemed to be working

*what ever it is i doubt youll find it near the land people. what brings you here if you do not mind my asking also? a mer of your beauty shouldnt dwell so far from the ruins. wouldnt want you getting lost would we?* he then grinned jokingly to her seeming to know that this tiana could take care of herself but she did mention about the strong mer protecting her so he played the role as if a drama with a small chuckle afterwards

Collectibles

By creating Collectibles, you can reward your players with unique items that accentuate their character sheets.

Once an Item has been created, it can be spawned in the IC using /spawn Item Name (case-sensitive, as usual) — this can be followed with /take Item Name to retrieve the item into the current character's inventory.

Mobs

Give your Universe life by adding a Mob, which are auto-replenishing NPCs your players can interact with. Useful for some quick hack-and-slash fun!

Mobs can be automated spawns, like rats and bats, or full-on NPCs complete with conversation menus. Use them to enhance your player experience!

Spawns

Events

Permissions

Add and remove other people from your Universe.

Orphanage

By marking a character as abandoned, you can offer them to your players as pre-made character sheets.
