Full Name:Dr. Esperanza Rosalind Ciervo
Nicknames/Aliases: Esp, Esper, Espie, The Creepy One- No, The Other Creepy One, La Hija de la Muerte
Age:24
Gender:Female
Species:Necromancer
Team/Rank: Sturgeon Moon- Member
Description: At 5’3”, Esp is a woman of a slight, curvy build, with tanned skin and wide brown eyes. Her hair is thick and dark, having been cut to reach her chin, and the woman herself tends to wear a distant, dreamy expression. Notably, her arms and back are almost completely covered in tattoos- black swirls and feather like designs- and the small toe of her right foot has been amputated. In her own time, Esp prefers wearing flowing, colorful garments in the form of shirts and dresses, but switches to a simpler pair of scrubs when attending to her work.
Personality:Esp can be thought of as a fairly decent person, albeit a rather...peculiar one. Kindly described as having a bit of difficulty with social norms, she has the unfortunate habits of sneaking up on other members of SCION, stumbling through her words when excited or in thought, and fidgeting often.
There’s also the matter that she has a tendency to perform ritualistic sacrifices of animal carcasses at various times throughout the week, but that’s another story entirely.
Nevertheless, Esperanza is a kind soul who genuinely enjoys her work and life at the base. While naturally introverted, she does her best to be amiable towards her coworkers- although she does retain a bit of unease around the immortals in general. Esp is fiercely loyal and stubborn in what she believes in.
Skills:As she has been working with the human body from a very young age- repairing unsightly damage and finding and removing organs-, Esp has come to develop the skills necessary for surgeries, simple patch-ups, and a range of things inbetween. Asides from her skills in the medical field, Esp is still very much the necromancer that she was raised up to be, and is capable of bringing the dead back to fight for or otherwise assist her. In connection to this, she is also able to sense, channel, and, if focusing, see spirits.
Weaknesses:For all of her knowledge of the medical field, Esp has no special powers in relation to healing. She relies on what equipment is given to her to work with, and can only do so much without it. Her magic works in a similar manner, in that, without any nearby bodies, she is essentially powerless, and is easily overpowered given her lack of physical training. Even then, it can take a few minutes to reanimate a corpse, leaving her vulnerable. She is also loyal to a fault.
Brief History: While it is not uncommon for some of the more prominent families of the supernatural community to be a bit...odd, the Ciervo lineage is certainly one of the stranger examples out there. Based in rural Mexico, the Ciervos are a family of necromancers, and the founders of a cult that dates back to when the Aztecs were still thriving- or so they claim, at any rate. The family holds Lady Death as their god, and perform sacraments, celebrations, and sacrifices in Her name- or, in the case of some of the more devoted follows, ritualistic cannibalism. While they had been a more sinister force in the past through the abduction and live sacrifice of innocents, they have long since settled themselves to simply offering livestock and fresh human corpses in their god’s name.
The cult itself is dictated by the Daughters of Death, a group of exclusively female necromancers who manage the various rituals, overlook the cult, perform a majority of the sacraments, and otherwise provide protection to those beneath them. The Daughters are chosen from childhood by the prominence of their magical abilities, and are then trained to perform their duties for the rest of their lifetimes. Esperanza was one such girl, having been selected after an incident involving the summoning of her great-grandmother’s spirit as a young child.
While her education did include the basics, it was, for the most part, focused on the study of anatomy, physiology, and the control and knowledge of her own developing powers. Esp was not as quick to bring back dead hamsters as a fair amount of her peers, but she took well to the more physical aspects of her work. Throughout the years, however, as she grew older, she developed an interest in the outside world. Although the concept of members leaving the cult’s main site to gather funds or recruit new members was not a new one, the subject of her being a Daughter raised some controversy. Eventually, however, the decision was made to turn her over to SCION, in order to further “enrich” herself on the cycle of life and death- and to serve as an ambassador of sorts to the organization, as the infamous reputation from the cult’s past still lingered.
It was at the tender age of 19 that she first stepped foot into the base, and, although there had been some preparations set in place for the journey, Esp still faced a severe amount of culture shock when she first joined. In spite of the wariness of the immortals that she initially came with, she has managed to get herself settled properly into the base...albeit with a few oddities here and there. Esp had initially aimed to join the Cryptobiology department of SCION, but eventually found herself in Sturgeon Moon- the best way to get close to death, after all, is to better understand life.
