It's a good thing comfort is always in style because Travis doesn't care to do anything else. He wears hats like some people wear glasses and has a hoodie for everyday of the month. Fashion really isn't something he stresses over, wearing a uniform when it's called for and a suit if you force him. Otherwise, he's in his usual ripped jeans and a t-shirt, then a hoodie if the weather permits. Travis puts way more stock in his jewelry anyway. Is it even a look if you don't have the matching earrings? I think the fuck not.

Travis stands around average height for a guy. Not the most intimidating either, with a lean frame and wiry muscles to match. His hair is naturally dark brown, but he recently got the ends of his hair dyed blonde. Travis' skin is a light brown color, and he's got a couple facial piercings. No notable scars, but he's got the usual blemishes that come with being a teen. He's got dark brown eyes, thick eyebrows.

They say for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction, and like a creak in the floorboards he's only ever been respondent to the right amount of pressure. A true believer in kismet right up until it leads his lambs to slaughter, Travie's just never been one to complain about the destination after ignoring every exit on the way there.

It wasn't always his intention to glide through life as if it were a menagerie of his own creation. Something shiny and fun to toy with until fate punched back. In fact, Travis was pretty structured and studious as a child and under the right conditions those traits come back like a ghost he never buried. Of course, those parameters went south when his parents had other kids, married other people, and left the kid to keep himself in check by filling in the gaps with whatever felt good at the time. Not lending any credence to consequences and responsibility allowed Travis to morph into the usually laid-back guy he is today. The one who doesn’t worry about anything until he absolutely has to. He’s messy, disorganized, and will shamelessly eat the last of the cereal while leaving you the empty box to get rid of. It's not uncommon for him to rely on friends and siblings to bail him out of trouble, or use his bizarre luck and ingenuity to get what he wants. As a result, he’s earned something close to a bad reputation (mostly among those who are the complete opposite of Travis, to be fair). They see him as irresponsible. A free-loader. Someone who wouldn't be where he is today if he didn't have other people's kindness to coast off of. Being the type of guy who doesn't believe he's that terrible or inept of a person, these accusations can get to him sometimes. That’s not to say they’re untrue. Even Travis knows that there are areas in his life he could improve upon. But it’s not as if his selfishness stems from any negative place inside of him. Nothing inside of him actually see's others as beneath him or unworthy of his respect. In fact, Travis actually has a rather warm disposition and enjoys the friends he has around him for more than just the satisfaction they bring him. However, being a person who’s motivated by feelings and principles rather than logic, he lacks the foresight to realize that even the best of friends can be lost when the energy they give -- punctuality, generosity, etc -- isn't reciprocated. The way you got em can be how you lose em when that carefree attitude turns into a pervasive disregard for others. But he can’t help being the person that he is. In the same way that his parent's lack of oversight allowed him to shirk acting like an adult, navigating all of his siblings instilled in him a strong sense of self-preservation. The mentality that he has to make sure he's alright, no matter the cost. That's not to say they treated him poorly. The opposite's true, actually. But that always seemed to be the one area of conflict he could never avoid (understandably), and resulted in a ferociously defensive nature along with a strong need to take every opportunity when he found it.

And there's no shortage of things to be defensive about, from the fact that he's spent more time doing mediocre free-running imitations than going to class, or logged more hours playing Halo than studying at the library. His uncanny ability to get things done well at the last minute doesn't make him the best partner at times. Nor does the fact that he needs a deadline and ramifications in order to get himself to focus on subjects he doesn't like or naturally excel in. Perhaps the biggest tragedy of them all is that he could be on par with the more studious students - should be - if only he applied the same tenacity to every skill and class. Still, while Travis may never be Harvard material, he makes up for it in balls-to-the-wall enthusiasm and a need to at least look like he has his shit together in the midst of his manufactured chaos. Underneath the bright smiles and lack of boundaries is the constant thought that he'll never be someone people take seriously. Travie has this nagging need to prove that he can take care of himself and pull himself out of any mess that his lackadaisical attitude puts him in. For someone who loves a handout, he can't take one that's unsolicited in some way. Especially if it plays off of any of his inadequacies. If he didn't ask, take, drop hints or otherwise finesse it from you, don't even bother.

Even still, Travis doesn't go looking for trouble even if some of his habits can take him there (and he isn't opposed to tagging along when the trouble is someone else's doing, either). A true believer that life should be enjoyed to the fullest extent. He generally wants to see good things happen for everybody and can be surprisingly empathetic despite lacking any real intrinsic drive to solve other people's problems. Not fixating on the negatives of life allow him to see past the things that usually bring people down and offer a more positive spin on just about anything, something that allows Travis to be helpful to others without him even trying to put himself in your shoes. He's always the guy cracking a lame joke or hyping up another person's accomplishments. Sometimes it comes from a shallow, self-seeking place. The idea of doing right by others so they'll do right by you. But when he cares for you he always will, the kind of person who'll always see you as a friend no matter what you (or, as often is the case, he) does. This can rub people the wrong way sometimes, but Travis just can't see anyone as an enemy. He'll approach anyone regardless of blood, history, or drama, and will usually be the bigger person and reach out to others first to repair any bridges. Especially on other people's behalf, regardless of where they stand on the issue. He's also the annoying friend to wants everyone to get along and cross those imaginary lines everyone's built. 'Cause fuck it. Life's just too short for the drama, you know? Even if it means pretending like he isn't part of the problem sometimes.

Travis didn't have an atypical childhood, even as his parents pushed the boundaries on what would be considered a traditional household. His mother lived the stereotypical pure-blood lifestyle - not completely removed from the outside world nor totally dissatisfied with the life she was dealt - but always felt like she was on the outside looking in. Maybe that's why she gave the street-wise muggle "help" the time of day. Travis' father wasn't much. Just another person his grandparents would hire, underpay, then send off without a moment's thought once the work was complete. His mother, however, found his differences more compelling than off putting and proceeded to give her parents the biggest headache they'd ever encountered.

While alluring at first glance, those differences in lifestyle would always seem to come back to bite the family in some way, whether it be his grandparents icy disapproval, or the disconnect between his parent's upbringing and values. They never could agree on marriage or cohabitation, even after Travis was born. Never decided on whose responsibility it was to foot the bills, whose freedom would get sacrificed in order to raise their child. Couldn’t seem to get on the same page about anything, really, once the appeal of their whirlwind romance had fizzled out, and it's safe to say no one was really surprised or disappointed to see his father go once reality set in.

He doesn’t remember much of the man who convinced his mom their best bet was to move to Salem. Very idealistic with β€œa dollar and a dream” so to speak, and all too eager to get out from underneath Travie's grandparents' scrutiny. Eventually his mom married the dreamer and that was that. His new step-dad started up his own business and made enough money for his mother's tastes as well as the child he’d inherited. Of course, nothing is without conflict. Travis turned seven and heard the yelling. His mother smashing dishes and his step-father hurling insults just as sharp. Despite his mother's reassurances, he knows enough not to lie when his grandparents start to ask questions about the nature of his parents' relationship. He’s eight when they divorce.

At ten years old his mom remarries, and not just anybody. Something of a pure-blood tycoon, a match his grandparents set up in an effort to combat their daughter’s questionable life choices. A marriage of convenience more than anything. His step-father provided the lifestyle his mother was use to without the suffocation, allowing her to run from the stuffy perfectionism she thought she hated while maintaining all of it's comforts and benefits. Her new husband never could match her tenacity either. Preferred to check off the marriage box then go about the rest of his business, happy to keep up appearances so long as it didn't bleed into the rest of his life. Eventually Travis would get two new siblings and, as was the norm in his life, the three of them were left to their own devices outside of school. They kept busy during the summer with regular trips to see the grandparents, and had countless tutors and extracurriculars to instill some kind of meaning in their lives.

Neglectful in the most purposeful sense, Travis' parents weren't the most hands on but Travis could never say they were terrible. His mother expelled just enough energy to make sure he was functional, and his parents had enough decency ingrained within themselves to treat him with the respect and kindness due unto anybody, related or otherwise. His paternal grandparents never could get behind the idea of muggle half-breeds, however, and thus kept him at a respectful distance. An act that Travie never could ignore, especially in comparison to the way they gushed over his half-siblings. He tried his best, for a while, to compete with the younger two. Didn't take long to get the picture, though. You can't change how some people perceive you, and one criticism too many from his step-dad's side of the family effectively lapsed any drive he once had (though it's safe to say anything built on a flawed foundation wasn't built to last anyway). He left the perfectionism to his siblings and decided to do whatever came natural. His parent's time was stretched far too thin to monitor his every move anyway. Especially once he was old enough to really look after himself. There were miles between the kids and any form of parental supervision or instruction, and he took every inch afforded. Didn't hurt that his lifestyle always granted him the luxury of teenage recklessness. There was no mess too big for his parents' money to fix, nothing their influence couldn’t afford him, no consequence heavier that that silent air of disappointment from his step father and catty remarks from his grandparents.

It's his maternal grandparents idea to send him to away to school, fed up with the way their daughter and her husband chose to 'parent." The idea being that school would teach him the traditional values he didn't seem to be getting at home. Travis wasn't exactly enthused. Nothing about the thought of structure and order made him excited, and if anything found it slightly offensive that his siblings weren't getting shipped off. Then again, maybe getting away from his family won't be such a bad thing.
