Weapons: a sheath knife, a combat shotgun and 50 shells, a 10 mm pistol and 50 rounds

Weaknesses: Hotheadedness, his hallucinations

Strengths: His intelligence, incredible perserverance

Brief History: Red was born in Vault 106. However, he showed a remarkable adaptation to the psychoactive drugs that Vault Tech filtered through the vault, and managed to escape with his life when he turned 17. When he was 16, however, he took the G.O.A.T. and was assigned as the Vault's hacker and repairman. He was trained to be the best, and indeed he was. Plus he already showed a natural aptitude for computers and engineering - he liked to hack the overseer's computer and mess with it. When he was 18, he realized what the drugs were doing to everybody and he just barely managed to escape. However, since that stuff was part of him since he was born, he still hallucinates a little and holds to his theory that "the Blue is everywhere." After he escaped, he wandered for several months until he found a lovely deathclaw nest. He was chased by a deathclaw until he locked himself in a metro station, hoping to find shelter, but all he found was ghouls and radiation. Miraculously, he killed the ghouls, but then found that the lock that he had used to lock the deathclaw out was rusty and he got stuck. Needless to say, he became prey to the horrible effects of radiation and became a ghoul. He walked through the tunnel a bit, going a little stir-crazy. When he emerged into the sun again, he found himself at Underworld, where Carol let him set up shop as a hacker/repairman over in the corner. Ever since he's been wanting to go out adventuring, but no one will go with him. He doesn't particularly want to go alone, since that was disastrous last time, so he's been stuck in Underworld for a month.

So begins...

I sat, finishing up a pistol for Ahzrukhal. I didn't really know what he was going to do with it once I gave it back to him, and I didn't really care. It was just a job. I smiled as the last few pieces clicked into place. It was so satisfying how it worked. Most things didn't work. Like life, for instance. Life doesn't work. It's terminally broken. Not that I'm a pessimist or anything. I prefer the term 'realist.' But it's true. In my opinion, life is too hard and no one should have to live it.

I heard Carol's voice from the other room. 'Red, aren't you gonna stop some time soon? You've been at that pistol all morning!'

"Yes, ma'am, just finishing up." I called back to her. I polished a spot on the weapon and put it in its holster. Then I set the whole thing down on the bench next to me and went over to talk to Carol.

'You are an odd one, you are.' she said, shaking her head as I walked over.

"I try my best." I quipped. I liked Carol. She was sort of a motherly figure to everyone. Out of all the people, she was the one who let me set up shop in her establishment. "So, any interesting news?" I asked. As much as I liked Underworld, I was getting tired of sitting around on my ass all day. I wanted some of the old excitement.

'Actually, yes.'

I perked up.

'There's a smoothskin in town, by the name of... Colten... Grey, I think it was? Anyway, he's asking some odd questions, and he seems to be a wastelander. I thought you'd find that particularly interesting.'

"I do, I do." I nodded enthusiastically. "Where can I find him?"

'Now, that I don't know...' A man sitting at the bar piped up. 'You're talkin' about that new smoothskin? Yeah, just saw 'im at Ahzrukhal's.'

Perfect! I thought. I can go meet this guy and return Ahzrukhal's pistol. But when I turned to find the pistol, my heart stopped. It was gone! It had just been there, I knew it was! But now someone had obviously taken it. "Dear Blue, he's gonna kill me..."

'What did you say, dear?'

"Uh - nothing, Carol. I'll just go meet that wastelander." I said with a nervous laugh and made my way out the door.

Sure enough, there was the human, sitting at the bar talking to that bastard Ahzrukhal. I smiled and walked over.

'Hey, you! Vault boy, you got my gun?' Azrukhal called over the bar.

"Uh... no, Ahzrukhal, I don't. I'm uh... not quite finished yet."

The ghoul snorted and turned around to get a drink for another customer. I walked quickly over to the wastelander. "Colten Grey, is it? Hey, I'm Red. Look, can I talk to you for a minute?"

I was relieved. So this wasn't one of those hard-ass wastelanders. He was inclined to be polite. "Well, I have a proposition for you." I lowered my voice and leaned in. "Look, I've uh... I've lost something of Ahzrukhal's here, and I'm pretty sure he's gonna kill me. Now, I can't enlist any local help finding it, or word will get back to Ahzzy here, but if you helped me... Well, let's just say my chance of survival goes from minimum to middle." My vision went blue for a moment and I swatted at an imaginary butterfly. Ahzrukhal turned back around and I jumped back, smiling nervously. He gave me a funny look and shook his head, polishing another glass. I turned back to the wastelander. "I'm willing to do anything. Well - almost anything." I said a little louder than before. "Whaddya' say?"

I watched as the man considered.

'Tell you what, if you can get Charon to be up for it, I could handle your problem.'

My eyebrows knit together in surprise. "Are you crazy? It's impossible to get him to do anything!" This human was clearly out of his mind. Charon was a creepy slave. At least that's how I saw it. Why on Earth would he care about getting Charon's help on anything? But then I regained my composure, getting an idea. "Well... see, I've got 200 caps. I'm gonna need... let's see... 900 more than that to buy Charon's contract. You wanna help me with that?" Realizing how unlikely that was, I added, "I'll pay you back. I'll travel with you and help you until I've paid it all back. I swear to the Blue." I raised my right hand solemnly. "With that gnome as my witness," I pointed to nothing, "I do solemnly swear."

I watched as he walked over to Charon. "He won't talk." I informed him. "And he won't join you until you have his stupid contract." Then the guy pulled on his deathclaw gauntlet. What was he trying to do, impress Charon into going with him? He walked over to Ahzrukhal. Oh, I hope he's not doing what I think he's doing... "Woah, man!" I jumped up from where I was sitting as he grabbed the ghoul violently, and then... murdered him. "Holy shit!" I watched in horror as he just wiped the blood off on Ahzrukhal's suit and held out his other hand to me expectantly.

"Wh - You just - He just - What? No! I did not pay you to kill that man! I don't owe you anything!"

It was true that this weirdo had solved my problem. He had gotten rid of Ahzrukhal - just not in the way I would have preferred. And whoever this guy was, he was not to be toyed with. He was obviously quite capable of killing me and he had Charon's help now. So, being the semi-coward that I was, I caved. "Fine. What do you want? Caps? Service? A rant on how much I'm hating you right now? And how much?" I was kind of irritated that no one in the bar was trying to help me. But of course, I was just that weirdo Vault kid who wandered into town a month ago, babbling incoherently about his skin falling off. Not worth helping. And these were not the saints of the world. They were just the folks who visited the Ninth Circle, who weren't very nice people.

I considered for a moment. It wasn't exactly like I had a choice, but I wanted to think about it before I accepted. The job was likely to be hard, since this guy was such a bad-ass, but I could probably handle it. I was only a hacker and I could make that clear to him before he tried to make me do any of the heavy lifting. And he looked like a nice guy. Well, he had just brutally murdered someone, but besides that, friendly. "Alright," I said, "Deal." And I shook his hand. Then I turned around and paid Charon his 100. "Don't spend it all in one place, now." I said jokingly. Then I turned back to Colton with a jaunty attitude. "So, Mr. Grey. Ever been to Vault 106?"

I grinned and chuckled ruefully. "Drugged up psychopaths, huh?" I saw him look me over and wondered what must be passing through his mind. Probably something like, "Why the hell does this guy care if I've been to Vault 106?". Yeah, I expected that kind of reaction.

'They weren't your friends and loved ones I'm hoping.'

He had no idea, of course, that they were. But not really loved ones since they were crazed loons. It's hard to have loved ones who try to kill you every now and then. When I had left, there had still been some order in the vault, but I could tell it was falling to pieces. That's why I left. The nick of time, I think they call it. It was probably completely trashed, now. I thought about this with a hint of remorse. I wish I could have been there to help it stay alive. I was really the only one keeping it all together, due to my resistance to the drug. I didn't go completely insane, just a little. Just enough to make me interesting.

I laughed and nodded. "I guess you could say that." I said. "They were related to me, if that's what you mean." I watched him closely to see his reaction. "See, Colten, I used to be a member of Vault 106. How are the old folks doin'?"

I raised my eyebrows slightly. "You... shot a few of them? Dead?" I sighed. "Well, so did I on one occasion, so I guess I'll have to forgive you for that one." I sighed again, looking away from the stranger and resting both elbows on the bar. "I just wish I could have helped them. They were so weak, so pathetic, you know?" Looking back at him, I continued. "I have an unusual natural resistance to the drugs. That's why I'm here talking to you instead of walking around some Vault hallucinating that everything's just dandy and chanting Breathe Deep in the Blue." I pushed off the bar. "But enough about me, what about you? Where are you from?"

I nodded. "Okay. That sounds good. Just let me get my things." I ran back to my room at Carol's place and started grabbing up my stuff and stuffing it in my backpack. As I did this, I considered this strange new man. He wouldn't tell me anything about himself except that he would get me rich. And he seemed oddly genial, though he was obviously a stone-cold killer. Probably a psychopath or something. Altogether odd. Well, he would fit right in with me.

I put the last item, my vault jumpsuit, in the backpack. The yellow numbers "106" gleamed up at me in defiance. "You should never have left," they seemed to say. Then my vision went blue and I saw the numbers peel off the jumpsuit's back. They danced around my head, taunting me, telling me to go back to the vault and clean things up. I shook my head violently, closing my eyes, trying to clear my head. But the numbers would have none of it. "Will you just look at yourself!" one said in my mother's voice. You're a freakin' zombie! And your clothes and your caps don't speak very well of your well-doing. Get it together, kid! Come back! I just closed my eyes and blocked my ears with my hands. All was silent for a moment, and then I opened my eyes, letting my hands slowly rest at my side. The Blue and the numbers were gone. I huffed at the whole affair. It happened often, and I got to where I wasn't that disturbed by it anymore. I shrugged my backpack onto my shoulder and walked into the front room of Carol's place. I paused. "Thank-you, Carol. For everything." And then I left.

I went outside where the human was waiting for me. "Ready." I said, and waited for him to set out.

We passed by the metro where I had become a ghoul and once again I was sorely tempted to turn right around and go back into Underworld. This place was dangerous, and I had no business being here. And speaking of dangerous, I began to see the shapes of super-mutants emerging through the gloom. But, I resolved to go forward and with that I drew my pistol and slowly pointed it at one of the creatures' heads - there must have been at least three of them. Colten took one of them, and I watched him, waiting for his signal.

delfiler had followed the group and saw one was about to get shot, he leap at the super mutant and crush it right down in the ground, the force of impact had crushed it's skull and the super mutant was dead instantly before he could do anything.

delfiler stood back up letting the super mutant go "is everything alright?" he asked the man

I was about to pull the trigger when Colten displayed remarkable speed and agility. I didn't even get time to pull the trigger before three of the four super mutants were dead and a robot had taken on the fourth. I paused for a moment in disbelief and then shrugged, putting away my pistol. The robot appeared to be crushing the last super mutant to death as he asked Colten if everything was alright. Colten responded and then the robot asked him another question. "Yeah, it's not like I can answer questions or anything." I broke in. I extended my hand to the bucket of bolts. "Hi, I'm Red. Pleased to meechya'. We were just heading to..." I realized I didn't know a thing about this job. "Hey, where are we heading to?" I asked Colten.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you, defiler, considering you just saved our asses." I looked down at my belt where my various hacking tools were. "Well spotted." I said appreciatively. "I am indeed good with computers, and it's been a while since I've gotten to tinker with anything computer related. I would love to help you for some caps. Lemme take a look." I walked over to the robot and powered him down. Then I opened up his head and took a look. "Hmmm. Yeah, There are some loose ends here. Pretty important stuff." I gingerly reached in and snipped some wires, replacing them with better spare ones. Then I powered him up and rebooted the parts that were broken. "Alright, it's done. I think about 85 caps should do."

(ooc - And Red would have made a move if you had waited for me to post, but anyway.)

"Hey, thanks!" I said as the robot handed me 100 caps. This was obviously a very generous person. That boded well. It looked like we could be good friends.

'It's just to risky, and Red, if you had made a move our asses would not have needed saving.'

"Hey, I had no idea you were going to act so quickly. Can't you allow me a little room for first-time-awe? I've only been out of the vault for eight months, gosh." Then I watched as they bickered childishly. I flinched at the word "ghoul." It was still hard for me to think of myself as anything other than human. Then they started bickering about the Brotherhood of Steel, and then things got really bad. They were both taunting each other in their arrogant ways and someone needed to intercede. I slowly took out my pistol, but didn't point it at anyone. Yet.

"Hey..." I said, stepping in between the two. "Let's stop being so mistrustful and mean-like and just let the guy help us? I mean, how many people in the wasteland genuinely want to help us? None, right? Except this chum. So let's indulge him. So let's put that hand down, okay? And try to be civilized here."
