'In a world of war and destruction peaceful creatures were born. They are Shapeshifters. Humans who are able to change their form into an animal. They are born with that animal inside them with their senses and characteristics even when they're in human form. At school they learn everything there is to know about themselves, but someone if trying to use their powers for war and evil.'

Ten long years ago a war raged in which everyone on Earth was involved in. Nobody really remembers how the war began but they remember the devistation which it created. Once everyone reached the age of eighteen they were sent to the nearest training camp, and in turn to battle. A select few were chosen to carry on the human race. But with the war raging, deaths outnumbered the births and there seemed to be no hope, the Earth was doomed to extinction.
A band of rebels gathered together and spoke about the future of their plannet. They were all spiritual people, and could feel the devistation which clouded the air like a thick mist of despair. They decided the only way to save the planet from its terrible future was to show the world peace. But how could they do that when every child that's born is born to kill? The solution came to them one night while out walking. Animals.
Using ancient magic they combined themselves with that of animals. The animals they chose were willing and ready to rid the world of the distruction in it. From there on the mighty Shapeshifters roamed the world. People bowed to them and thought them Gods when they first appeared.
The Shapeshifters used this in their favour and ordered the people to stop fighting. At first they couldn't see the point after years of endless battle, but the Shapeshifters told them of the distruction it was causing to the animal kingdom as well, and that if they didn't cease the animals would retaliate.
The fighting stopped, and the Shapeshifters began to make their civilization in which their offspring could learn and thrive to be great, magestic, magical, peaceful creatures. You see, that was their price to pay for combining themselves with animals. All of their offspring, and their offsprings offspring would be able to take the form of an animal. Only they wouldn't get to choose the animal, or it's characteristics. The animal in them would be dominant. But they could only hope that their children would be as peaceful as they were.

Now, ten years later the world is still recovering from the battles it once fought. But not peacefully. The humans thought the Shapeshifter 'Gods' were long gone and they were free to do as they liked. They battled for grounds, but the fighting was on a smaller scale than the fighting ten years previous. In amongst the fighting was a mighty school. The school of the Shapeshifters.
When a Shapeshifter is born they are born as their animal. For the first few years of their life they cannot control their transformation, or the animal within them. When they are thirteen years of age, they go to the school. They live there until they are eighteen, learning everything there is to learn about Shapeshifters, and the jobs they have to try and keep peace.
But something, or someone is threatening their home. This person wants to use the Shapeshifters for war, to take over the world and have the Shapeshifters rule over the humans. They don't do this outright, but in secret, as the other Shapeshifters would disagree.
