Shayde Thorne

Imagination rules her world...

0 · 420 views · located in Earth

a character in “Schrodinger's Cat”, as played by WrittenInScars

Description

Name: Shayde Thorne

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Occupation: Student

Appearance: She has long brown hair with a full fringe that cuts off level with her eyebrows. Her eyes are light blue, almost as if they'd been dyed with sapphire. Her skin is pale, all except her pink cheeks. Her height is an average 5'6ft tall. She is usually found with an English football in her hands.

Personality: Shayde is very bubbly and energetic. She loves all sports, people, animals and objects. She is known to be sweet, sensitive, caring and rather intelligent. If not for being a dreamer, some would say she was almost perfect.

Image

Family History: The Thorne family is rather complicated. Howard Thorne (Shayde's father) is the best lawyer in the country. Elizabeth Thorne (Shayde's mother) is head of the bank. Her family are all very realistic, and despise anything that defies science. If it isn't practical, they don't want to hear it. Her parents also want her to be a responsible woman who is high in business... Hopefully an accountant.

Current Dreams: The majority of her dreams contain a certain character that seems to always appear in her head: Zita Leanton. Zita is a shapeshifter who owns an independent pet shop. She often takes the shape of a young, beautiful human woman. Zita has one power: the abilaty to speak/understand animals. Shayde often dreams of her playing sports with the animals in a bright forest. In other dreams however, there is an evil character named: Storm Kyles. She goes through the City and causes as much mischief or/and destruction as she can manage.

So begins...

Shayde chased the ball across the pitch, her foot aching for a shoot into the goal. Soon her ache was healed for with the hit of her right foot against the football; a goal was created. The crowd roared in triumph and pride as her loyal team raised her above their heads in acknowledgment. Billions watched through the TV screen as she received a trophy that she'd hold dear to her heart for as long as she would live - maybe even afterwards. "SHAYDE, SHAYDE, SHAYDE, SHAYDE...!" The audience chanted...
"Shayde? Shayde!" Mr. Thorne called, becoming more irritated as each word flew from his mouth. He stood on the doorstep, one hand clutching the handle right to resist his urge to march towards the girl. With a sudden shake, Shayde blinked multiple times before scanning her surroundings. She sat perched on the wall edge, just to the side of the makeshift sport pitch she'd created on the car park. Sensing her fathers impatience, the energetic teen would hop down and stumble towards him clumsily."I'm sorry, father, I was daydreaming" Shayde apologized, readying herself for her daily lecture on how 'dreams are for fools' or how she 'wastes her intelligence with such childish ways'. But instead she merely got a grunt, as he pointed her up street. "I want you to go up to the community centre... There you shall see a man in decent clothing waiting for you outside the door. He shall be your therapist". She stared up at her father in shock, there was nothing wrong with her. She hadn't got any anger issues, her grades were perfect, she was very social and always active... "There's nothing wrong with me though" she commented aloud. Mr. Thorne raised an eyebrow at Shayde, shaking his head. "No, but it is a precaution. If you are to be the business woman your mother and I wish for you to become; you must be the very definition of perfection" he stated, waving his hand dismissively as though it were nothing. Knowing her words were not appreciated by her parent, she turned and swiftly began her travel... A whole two minute walk. Shayde spent her brief journey fiddling with her football, wishing she'd never awoken from her beautiful daydream.

Festus was awoken from his daze when he heard the door slam. He wasn't actually expecting anyone to come at this time. In fact, he only kept the store open out of habit. He looked towards the young girl, before trying to stand up. He was beat by a man, and what appeared to be another man.

He stood up without problems, his attention brought on by the dog-like growl he heard. He walked around the register and went towards the girl who didn't seem much younger than him. "Welcome to the shop of wonders," He smiled when he said this, hoping to cheer up the girl, "do you want anything specific?" His voice was the same calm and eloquent one he always had. "Oh right, you two need anything as well?" He directed this towards the two men who walked in, deciding not to be rude.

He couldn't assume he knew anything about the situation, and he didn't want to pry by asking.

Shayde smiled up at the man, looking back to her father in slight fear. "Um... Yeah, I'm fine" she stated unsure of what to say. She looked around the store, having only noticed it today she wanted to know more. However, she knew her father would never approve of her visiting such a place. 'Well, maybe I should start doing what I want to do' she thought to herself, hating how she let her father trample all over her. Her attention was caught by the greeting of who she assumed worked in the shop. He seemed to be only a few years older than her, but she knew looks could be deceiving. Then again, something about him seemed familiar - like they had something in common. Realising she hadn't replied to his welcoming yet, she hastily searched her head for something to say. "I, err, I... Thank you" she sighed, trying once again to get the right words. "I'm looking for a book on mathematics" she lied, her full fringe blowing to the side slightly. Pushing it back into position, her eyes seemed exhausted with herself. Shayde had always been a horrible liar, but never that bad...

Festus returned his attention to the girl. He wondered if she even knew what she wanted, but he decided to wait. He smiled a bit more when she stuttered, guessing that she was probably running away from something. He would have laughed when she mention mathematics, but he wasn't going to seem like a jerk. "Don't sell those types of books here." He said this nonchalantly. If she actually wanted math books, she probably wouldn't have come to the shop.

Festus looked at Nick and waited for Nick to say something, but he didn't. Festus turned his attention to Vincent, wondering what he could want. Festus didn't get the type of costumers as he did today. Usually they were eccentric as he was, but he wasn't complaining. Anyone was free to come. "You seem stressed, you sure you don't just want to take a look? Could help you take your mind off of your situation." He directed this to the girl. "Do you want that book? Or would you rather I get one of the notebooks from the storage?" He directed this towards Vincent, not really expecting Vincent to be interested in his Ancestors' knowledge of dreams. Rarely anyone was interested in the ethereal world.

He pulled out a miniature version of the notebooks in the storage and flipped through it's pages filled with neat handwriting. This notebook had explained quite a bit about his dreams, but he was never sure if those explanations were just coincidences. He also knew that the monsters in dreams could supposedly leave the dreams, and he for a second, imagined the macabre carnival out in the open for everyone to marvel at.

Shayde smiled gratefully, resisting the urge to facepalm for asking for a mathematics book in a store like that. Of course there wasn't going to be any, why on Earth would there be? She decided to mentally shrug it off; and did exactly that. Shayde noticed one pull out an old fashioned notebook, immediately interested. She was a sucker for older objects; especially if they covered dreaming of any kind. It seemed she still couldn't figure out why it happens: all those dreams. It was like they just appeared out of no where... Like a vision! Of course, it most likely wasn't a vision - but it still could have been.
A loud bang could be heard from the door, and Shayde turned to see her now rather agitated father stood on the other side; his face even seemed to go slightly red. Gulping, she didn't know what to do. If she opened the door he'd drag her home and take her footballs away... Or even destroy her pitch on the car park! But if she didn't he could do things much worse. Shayde didn't see any fairness in his ways, but then again; that was probably because there wasn't any. She hated to admit it, but she was scared to go and face him. She knew very well how intimidating Howard Thorne could be. Never the less, she placed her pale hand and the door handle and readied herself to open it... Knowing as soon as she did she'd be psychically dragged down the streets.

Festus smiled shortly after Shayde did. Festus perhaps did something good, but he couldn't be sure this wouldn't come back and bite him. He shrugged internally, he'd always have his carnival. He almost dropped his book when he heard banging on his door, and he felt slightly angered, but he calmed himself. He had copies of this notebook in storage, but he still protected the little and original book. It was a trace of his ancestry, all of their knowledge neatly packed into a single book. Years of studying, years of analysis, and years of questions put into one location. He looked at the door and saw a rather angered man. Something in his mind was telling him to fight, that he was to protect his shop with violence. He ignored the voice. It sounded too much like the song in the carnival.

"Girl, catch." He threw his book towards the girl, hoping that she would be able to use it the same way he had. Or perhaps in a better manner. Hopefully she could escape her dreams, but he doubted it. "Please return the book when you can." He felt saddened for departing with the notebook, even if it was possibly temporary.

He returned his attention back onto the door, prepared to call the police if things got out of hand. He wasn't going to let an angry man ruin his shop. No one messed with the inside of his shop and got away with it, no one.

Shayde cringed at how her father was being adressed, however knowing he deserved it, she also knew he would not be happy about it. "I'm simply here to collect my daughter!" He stated angrily, his fist retreating to his side after many 'knocks' on the store door. Mr. Thorne glared at his daughter disapointedly, but it seemed she was busy...
Shayde caught the notebook and looked up to Festus in surprise, she could tell he didn't want to be seperated from it. She clutched on to it tight as she spoke in a soft, almost angelic tone "thank you, Sir... I'll return it to you soon" She thanked. It was strange, being able to speak freely. Shayde was used to being silent, and simply nodding along to her parents lectures; but this time she was free to say what she liked. Shayde knew then that she'd be a regular there...
Her father, however, refused to give in. He grabbed a tight hold onto Shaydes wrist and pulled her forcefully towards him. She squeeled in fright and fought her best to free herself from his grip. It seemed that he wasn't going to give up easily, for she couldn't manage to get the strength to set herself free. Instead, she continued to hold onto the notebook tight... Hoping.

Shayde was a rather peaceful person; never wanting harm done to any that have done no wrong... In this case her brain seemed to be confusing itself. Her father was wrong, she knew that, but she could also almost see where he was coming from. Deciding silence was a good friend of hers that she should probably not abandon: she stuck to it. Resisting the urge to burst out the word 'ow' every second was becoming rather difficult... For it seemed her fathers grip only grew tighter as the man began to speak. Never the less, once the man had finished even Shayde was shocked, she couldn't imagine a world without her father... Ok, so that was a lie. Many nights had she dreamt of such a blissful pleasure of life; never had she considered it a possibility though! Mr. Thorne then knew the man was very serious and almost instantly began to let Shayde's wrist go. However, he soon would think about the rights he had and took a firm grip on her wrist once more. Grimacing mentally, Shayde looked to the man, her eyes pleading. Her father was a very strong man who seemed to be using all his strength on her. She was still unsure on whether or not she wanted to be permanently taken from her 'family'... But temporarily would be perfect at a time like that. Her father glared at her, only disapointment held in his cold eyes. Shayde began to shake slightly, struggling to free herself. She didn't know what to expect, so she stayed strong and smiled gratefully to the man who'd tried to help as Mr. Thorne began to drag her from the store, wishing she'd loosen her grip on the notebook; but she refused to do so.

Festus watched calmly, analyzing the situation with a lazy gaze. It was slightly confusing. He couldn't quite figure out what was going to happen, but he decided to not make a big deal out of the situation. He stood with a calm posture and continued smiling. "Please do calm down." He said this without malice. He refrained from saying sir, a slight jab at the young lady's father. This was, after all, who the command was aimed at.

Festus stole a glance at Vincent, the man who seemed to be much more than an average patron. What would Vincent do?

Festus began having the feeling that something was going to happen as soon as Vincent sighed. Festus paid close attention to the words coming out of the man's mouth, hoping that this was simply a lesson and not something related to what was abotu to happen. His hopes were shattered as soon as he heard the growl. He saw the smoke and winced, seeing the dog pin the father to the ground. He would have tried saving the man, but he wasn't entirely sure of what was happening.

He turned to Shayde, wondering if the girl would vainly try to save her father. He hoped she was all right, and was made to smile when he saw her turn her head away in defiance. He broke out of his "trance"-like state when she turned to look at him. He hadn't even worried about his notebook. He examined it from afar and sighed in relief when he noticed that no damage was done to it. "It'll probably be fine, hopefully." He couldn't exactly do anything about what happened, seeing as Vincent didn't seem to be any ordinary person. He also guessed that he wasn't going to be let go after seeing this, either that or Vincent came specifically to this location for a reason.

"At least the Uma... dream notebook is fine." He almost called the notebook by its actual name, but he decided to not risk doing so. The book's title was written in an archaic language, as were the important parts of the book. "I'm guessing I'm not going to be let go that easily, right?" He faced Vincent when he asked this. He returned to being calm and not worrying much, not like anything bad could happen.

Slipping the black sunglasses on his face more covering harsh green eyes Vincent merely pivoted on his feet to face the older Dreamer. A small smirk appeared on his face as he listened to the Dreamer, give up the charade of being..normal. Adjusting the glasses with a single finger "Whatever are you talking about sir, as far as myself and my friend here are concerned you are merely an innocent bystander..unlike that..", his harsh eyes glared at the stunned man on the ground as if tempting to break a few bones with eyes alone "Piece of trash who attempted to harm the young lady here..". His speech was cut off as he gently smiled at the young girl before snapping his fingers once more. Nick brushed off dirt from his pants and straightened his rather crooked black tie before slipping on his own shades.

With quick flash of his hand Vincent tossed two cards on the ground before stating "That is my personal calling card, if either of you ever wish to talk to a professional or ever have any 'issues' then please give me a ring..my associate Nick is not the greatest people-person, yet his number is on here as well. You young lady might have a closer look at that book or ask our new friend here for assistance I would hate to have come back for a less pleasant visit" Nick merely gave a pointed smile before returning his attention to a flock of birds over head, his head cocking to the side like a dog trying to pick up sound. Running a hand through his hair Vincent sighed at the incompetence of his partner, damn that hellhound. With a final bow to the young lady, Vincent walked away with Nick trailing behind like a dog after a owner. A faint smile appeared on Vincent's face as felt the sunshine on his face, well this was an interesting day indeed.

Shayde watched as Vincent left as she bent down to pick up the two cards. With a quick skim-read, she handed one over to Festus with a polite smile. Shayde then pocketed the miniature card, to then look over to her father. With a sigh, she did what she knew she had to do: she walked over to him. Once stood beside him, she held out her hand and helped him stand. Not once looking into his eyes, she spoke quietly as she carefully examined his arm. "It's broken, go to the hospital, Dad. Mum's working today anyway, she won't notice you ever left. I'll be home later." Her tone was so blank it could sting any man. Shaking her head, she turned her back to him and walked back to where she'd originally been standing, acting as though the floor was the most interesting thing she'd ever seen.
With a sad huff, her father stormed out of the store and across the street. Not bothering to watch as he left, she turned back to Festus with a bright smile - as if nothing had happened. Noticing the title, she stared at it in recognition. "I know that language... I've seen it before..." She mumbled in wonder, talking mostly to herself.

Festus smiled when he heard what Vincent said. He had originally meant the fact that he had seen a hellhound, and that he would probably not be let go without being told to be quiet.

He looked at the 'piece of trash' on the floor and continued smiling, wondering if the man would come and try to break down his door again. He was distracted by the cards tossed on the ground. He was going to pick a card up, but he was handed a card and he instead took it from Shayde. He read it quickly, then turned his attention to Shayde.

He winced when she helped her father stand, mostly due to expecting something to happen. He would have to interfere if anything violent were to happen again. He couldn't hear what was being said and he didn't particularly want to hear, seeing as it was none of his business.

He laughed internally and smiled brightly when she returned to her original spot. He stole a glance at Howard, then returned his gaze to Shayde once again. He didn't particularly want to be called out. Not that he was scared, he just didn't want to risk damaging his precious shop. "The language is of dreams," He was speaking seriously, "it was created before many of the languages in the physical world or 'real world' as many have taken to calling it." He was speaking at a moderate pace, not wanting to bore Shayde or have himself not be understood. "It was created through the collective unconsciousness of mankind, and my ancestors had taken the time to record it." He smiled brightly, feeling as if he was sharing a secret.

The language itself dated back to when mankind was first created. When the earth was young. "The language is called Kevlech, and very few people know it today. I have a feeling that the man who came in knows it as well." He decided to stop with lore for now and go onto his shop.

"Anyways, enough of that. Anything around here interest you?" He said this as he walked to the door and changed the sign hung on it to 'closed'.

Shayde smiled and mentally reminded herself about the 'language of dreams' knowing there was something familiar about it. Looking around, she noticed a single piece of dust on an empty section of a shelf. Having noticed the remarkable cleanness of the store, she knew there was something important about it. Advancing towards it, he soft smiled became one of curiosity.

Up close, she noticed the true beauty of the dust, and was instantly more intrigued than she ever had been before. Not wanting to risk touching it, she stood with her arms to her side and just stared in wonder and amazement. She found it fascinating how such a tiny, spec could with hold something so wonderful.

Her short brown hair swayed into her vision, but was soon swept aside. Shayde looked over to Festus in question, wanting to know what made it so amazing.

Festus Delirus, the maybe-not-so-sane dreamer, walked back to where he was and looked in the direction of the dust. He also saw it or rather felt it, the intriguing nature of the dust there. It was almost as if it were from a dream, which it in fact was. It was from a dream young Festus had, a dream not of the macabre carnival.

He walked carefully and silently towards the dust, making sure to keep his breathing and steps quiet. He was mesmerized by the dust for a split second, but he broke his gaze and noticed Shayde's hair swaying. He met her questioning gaze, then smiled calm and solemnly. "It's from a dream," he kept his voice down when he said this.

For a second, he entered the dream from where it came. It was a rather simple dream, and one that let itself open to being entered.

The dream appeared to take place in a basement of sorts. There were what appeared to be treasure chests in the place of boxes, and intricate patterns of silk covering quite a bit of things. Some of the chests were open and letting out toys of all shapes and sizes, including sports gear and the occasional water gun. It was a child's heaven, and a dream Festus had a lot as a child. The room smelled of a child's innocence and looked to be out of focus. In the middle of the basement was a single item, a doll resembling a clown. Then the mere second ended and he was returned to outside of the dream world.

"You didn't see that, right?" He didn't know if she had been there in his dream, and he didn't know if wanted her to have been. It was a precious dream to him, one that he guarded deeply, even to himself. He was still outwardly calm, a strange contrast between his words. "Never mind, probably just my imagination." He didn't want to seem insane, so he lied slightly.

He walked over to a sink behind his counter and washed his face paint off, then dried his face with a towel. He couldn't let himself be pulled into dreams while he had someone in his shop.

Shayde hadn't seen what he'd asked, but she knew he was far from insane - well, she hoped. For she'd had this happen to her many times before. She walked over to Festus, but kept on the other side of the counter as she felt that she shouldn't invade anyone's personal space.

"No, I didn't see it - but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. What you just saw was a dream, wasn't it?" She watched him in interest, not meaning to be so blunt but couldn't think of another way to word it.

"And don't deny it, I've been there many times before: the dream world." She stated as though it were like going to the park. But she felt as though it were that simple, and didn't quite understand why some were so against it.

She'd also noticed that it seemed he was wary of letting himself be pulled into dreams. She found it strange, that one would refuse to be pulled into a world of such sweetness - or bitterness (it depended on the dream). That being said, she could quite easily tell that he'd had a pleasant dream. One that was his own secret, one he didn't feel like sharing.

He knew he wasn't insane, but he wasn't sure she'd think the same. Then again, he possibly was insane, although he rarely showed it. His dreams however, occasionally did.

"How did you kno.." He stopped himself before he made himself look stupid. Of course she knew, it all clicked in his brain. She obviously had similar experiences as his, although possibly less macabre.

His suspicion was strengthened when she mentioned the dream world, and he slightly flinched. He had never known anyone who admitted to entering the dream world, at least the same way he and others did except for his grandmother.

"Yes, it was a dream." He frowned slightly, a subtle change of his almost always happy face. "but I don't like sleeping when in the company of others." This wasn't the whole truth, but he wasn't going to elaborate without being pushed to do so.

"Anyways," He began, hoping to change the subject, "how much do you know about dreams?"
