AUDITION:
Possessing a soft, almost sorrowful voice, Hayate gained popularity at first from the sweet tones his voice possessed, singing of things gone by and drawing energy from the wistfulness of those who had dreams that were crushed or aspirations that can never be achieved. Writing those chords were easy, he just sang the lyrics that struck himself the most. Though he suffered many misfortunes before, either from rivals or the low popularity of his music, those setbacks did nothing but serve to sweeten his voice. Embracing all the sentiment in the past and bringing the nolstalgia into the present was an emotion he feasted on.
As he grew, Hayate soon found that those could no longer satisfy his appetite. They seemed no more than snacks, and he soon experimented with other alternatives. Childlike wonder, the recklessness of youth, until he finally settled on one emotion. Hope. Only finding it in its purest form would satisfy the yearning in his appetite, no matter how troublesome bringing out that feeling might be. Instead of weaving songs of days passed by, he began singing about the future. Encouraging the broken to dream again, his songs were often filled with kindness and warmth. The symbol of hope, as brief as it might seem, shines bright. Partly why he is called the Sakura is for his brief illusion of hope, much like the blooming of cherry blossoms, brief and beautiful. His songs brings the ability to motivate and drive others, to make them remember their once forgotten ambitions and restore hope. "Don't lose the appetite to live" as he puts it. His songs provide a temporary respite for others, a place where, even for a brief moment, they believed with all their hearts that as Long as they try they can achieve their goals.
This brief dream of hope, as fickle as it seems, has given many people the will to live. Hayate gained his popularity as a singer whose compassionate and gentle voice alongside with his lyrics saved many people from the deepest pits of despair to hope again. He often received thank you letters from his fans, to which he tries to respond to personally with encouraging words and grateful phrases. In reality, Hayate honestly couldn't care less. As an incubus, he is a truly selfish person. Who cares about others, unless it's to satisfy his appetite? He only wishes for the purest form of hope, whether it had helped others or damned them to reality doesn't matter a smidge to him. He goes to great pains to keep his gently smiling exterior however, for a selfish idol doesn't provoke as much emotion as a kind and generous one does.
He personally isn't against breaking someone's will himself and letting them see a glimpse of hope before snatching it away in a cruel cat and mouse game. The more broken someone is, the better they respond to opportunity, even if it's a brief moment of what could have been. Though not sadistic by nature, Hayate's ambition can drive him to do outrageous things. What he wants is simple. A meal. A marvellous delicacy that would shake him to the very core of his existence. Nothing would satisfy him until he tastes hope in its purest form, and until then nothing can stop him.
