The Supernatural Concealment and Investigation Organization Network.

Better known as S.C.I.O.N.

Once, in times gone by, known as The Order of the Scion of the Azure Moon.

But that's a bit of a mouthful and hard to shout when some lyco is trying to crush your trachea in a big meaty fist.

So, SCION it is.

Assuming you're a human, you will probably never have heard of it. You will most likely live out your entire life never openly encountering any trace of SCION, or its staff. And if you don't, you can probably consider yourself lucky; because if you have, you're either a very exceptional individual... or something statistically far more powerful is trying to murder you.

Possibly both.

SCION is a collaborative effort between a small section of humanity, and some of the major families of the sapient cryptid species, to both research supernatural species, and the enforce a...healthy distance between humanity, and the monsters out there in the world. It exists to keep things secret, and to keep both sides of the coin safe from destroying each other. (Previous instances where humans and cryptids have mixed in recent times has made things...tense at best. Think Witch Trials. Think, vampires buried alive with rocks stuffed into their mouths, think whole camps of human soldiers found mysteriously torn apart out in remote nordic woodland...that kind of stuff. )

It's the only place you're likely to find humans working alongside werewolves, vampires, the spirits of the dead. Brings a whole new meaning to the idea of workplace diversity, right?

Once upon a time, SCION worked for world governments, under their funding and protection. Branches all over the place. Then, came a sudden declaration to cut the funding, burn the records, and shut everything down. No more SCION anywhere. Gone. Finished. Obviously someone, someone very powerful wanted there to be no-one checking up on supernatural activity.

So, for 50 years, no SCION. Not a peep. Other things rush in to fill the power vacuum. Vampire clans. Wolf packs. And far darker things. Stories of a major demon on US soil filter through the rumour mill, though nothing is confirmed. Order remains... but that order is maintained through a large number of humans who see things they should not going 'missing' forever.

Then, about 10 years back, old members got a call from an untraceable number, where a female voice offered two things, an address, and a message. SCION would live again. A benefactor had left them enough funding to begin again from the ground up, this time as an independent entity, outside of government control. They could work once more...but this time they were alone.

Cut to the present, and SCION has climbed its way back into prominence in the supernatural community. They investigate, they research, they spy...and they bust heads..if need be. They carefully select members from all walks of life and (nearly) all species. Some are important for their skills and aptitude, some for their political position in the supernatural world...and some are simply people who can disappear and not be missed at all. All kinda have been given a new life within the SCION base.

So, the question is, are you ready to sign up?

Image

There are many creatures within the supernatural world, and more subspecies than most would care to mention, but most tend to fall into the following categories:

Human

Humans. The most common of the sapient group. What they lack in magical ability they make up for in adaptiveness and ingenuity. Most have no idea about some of the things that take place around them. Those that do tend to not benefit from this knowledge. A human in that world is in a lot of danger. Unless of course they're one of those selected to join SCION.

In which case, they're probably in even more danger.

Vampire

Image

Vampires. The children of the night. The nosferatu. The things of horror stories and teen romance novels the world over...but the truth of a vampires is both scary, and a bit sad.

Vampires were once humans, humans who had the venom of another vampire injected directly into their jugular vein so as to have it reach their heart almost immediately..and cause it to stop. It would remain stopped for about six hours as every cell in the host's body was infected with the curse, only to have it restart again slower and colder.

A vampire has a very low body temperature, and a naturally slow pulse. They have astonishing darkvision and very fast reflexes. Much like snakes, they are able to sense body heat through adapted cells beneath their skin, and additionally like snakes, they are able to snap out a set of very long, hollow canines from their upper jaw. These often snap out when a vampire is angry or threatened, as well as about to strike.

They are incredibly effective predators. Like mantids their appearance draws their prey, humans. Humans see them as uncommonly, if rather savagely beautiful, and tend to be drawn to them. This suits a vampire well. They must drink blood every few days in order to maintain good health. Without it they will begin to sicken and decay. Their cells will degenerate until they resemble a walking corpse and until their minds degenerate into animalistic madness.

Werewolf

Image

Hungry like the wolf. The werewolf is another of the supernatural creatures that has permeated popular culture.

Like vampires, some werewolves were once ordinary humans, turned by the bite of one of the lycan kind. However, unlike vampires, a werewolf may have children, and as a result, the majority of werewolves around in the modern era were born never having known humanity. Born wolves tend to be stronger than those turned, and those from certain lines stronger still than that. This tends to make born-wolves a little...hung up on it.

A werewolf, most of the time, resembles a person. A born-wolf tends to be on the tall side, with an athletic build and something a little..scruffy about them. Males of the species tend to build muscle mass quite easily. All werewolves have a fast metabolism, a high body temperature, and a rapid pulse. They tend to display quite impressive strength even in human form, and this is greatly increased when they transform.

Transformation is a major part of a werewolf's life. By default, upon every full moon, as the last rays of sun disappear they will be hit by agonizing, blinding pain. Bones will snap and reform, organs will fail and warp. The werewolf will suffer a heart attack, multiple fractures, massive internal trauma and their skin will tear itself apart. By the end, they will be a new creature, a horrifying meld of human and beast with a wolf-like head and a hunched body, covered in thick fur.

Transformed, partly due to the beast instincts, and partly due to the immense trauma of transformation, werewolves become animalistic and vicious. They will attack most living things and act like a wild creature, causing destruction and chaos around them.

That is unless they are properly trained. Born werewolves will be put through rigorous training by their own pack. First of all mental preparation in order to maintain their goals in wolf form, and to not harm those on their own side. The second set of training they got through it using a focus to bring on the change outside the full moon. These 'forced' transformations can give them a needed edge in a fight, but are also very hard on a werewolf's body. To force a change whilst injured or unwell can easily kill the individual.

Sorcerer

Another who has known what it is to be human, most as they were often born of humans. A sorcerer is a mortal who has magic running through their veins. They are able to channel into the fundamental forces of nature and wreck things with it.

This tends to be a problem to an inexperienced caster, though. For many it may begin to trigger accidentally, fires starting, objects flinging themselves into walls, strange presences within the home. That sort of thing. Uncontrolled, the powers can be very dangerous, growing unchecked and unfocused they often end up lashing out at random, killing the caster or people around them.

A sorcerer can however, train and learn to manipulate their abilities to call upon the elements. Through this they can become very powerful, despite being physically unremarkable and as mortal as any regular man.

Fallen

An enigmatic form of cryptid, most Fallen with Scion were picked up directly from where they appeared. That is, Fallen appear to literally...fall. When you see footage of meteorites crashing to earth wreathed in flame. Not all of them are meteorites. Investigators will sometimes find, rather than shattered space rock in th e crater, a humanoid figure, smoking and blackened with burns, bones shattered and body twisted up like you might expect something that'd just rocketed out of the sky in a trail of flame to end up looking like.

It's pretty nasty...but is made quite a bit more nasty by the fact that they're nearly always alive after landing.

Most Fallen recovered by SCION have been comatose since their recovery, and offer little other than research material into the phenomenon. Those that have awoken, whilst more immediately useful, suffer from acute amnesia, and have no memory of their lives before they fell. Most however have appeared easy enough to deal with, and have often taken up posts within the organization.

All Fallen are very heavily scarred, and tend to not be too pleasant to look at, but often have quite gentle dispositions. Their touch has the odd ability of being able to relieve the pain and infer a sense of serenity upon those they make contact with, and as a result many have had success training as medics within the organization.

Demon

The final type of cryptid, and the only kind to have no known representation within SCION. A demon is an ancient manifestation of a primal darkness, and major demons exist to constantly scheme and plot and fight amoung themselves. Most will deal in 'blood pacts'; deals made with other creatures in return for something. Years of life, a first born son, years of servitude...a demon will deal in all such things, and chaos is something they thrive upon. Most demons would benefit greatly from SCION's failure.

Image

There are plenty of types within SCION, all play a big role, and not all get along too well. Just some of these may include:
(These are not hard and fast 'roles', they more serve as writing prompts and suggestions. Other ideas are welcome!)

The Head- ????- Played by VitaminHeart - Oft-heard, never seen. The mysterious benefactor keeps an eye on her investment, and will often check in on her staff. No-one has met the Head in person, but as she is generally happy enough to allow them to work without micromanaging, few people show a lot of concern.

Scientist -Oren Kovalenko - Played by VitaminHeart - Always looking to dissect something, or connect someone up to machines and make notes, the Scientists are always trying to work out what makes people, and creatures, tick. Considering Miss Oren's general lack of interest in anyone's welfare, plenty of people are relieved that others exist to ensure that the research team do not do anything unethical.

The Barbarian - Kora Norrevinter - Played by VitaminHeart - Six and a half foot of screaming, fighting crazy, this werewolf has come from a bloodline of warriors stretching back to pre-roman tribes. A sort of doggy aristocracy, if you will. Bred for generations to be a warrior, it's evident that she's not really prepared for much else, including polite society. Enjoys death metal, cake, and punching stuff.

The Doc - Every places needs a Doctor. Someone to try and put everyone back together when things go bad. Preferably more than one. Even then, trying to keep everyone in SCION alive and kicking is a pretty full on job.

The Tech Even in a world of magic, you need someone that knows their way around modern tech. In a place with thousand year old vampires, and lycans who seem to think they're still in the viking era, someone needs to have some finesse around wires and screens.

The Old One After you've lived five hundred years, vampire society names you an 'Old One' and treats you with respect. This guy/gal could be ruling their own clan by now, but has instead taken up the good fight with SCION. How noble. Or suspicious.

The Rookie New blood in the old corpse. The rest have known each other for a few years. This one is pretty new. About to prove themselves? Or about to make it a very short career?

The Lore Expert - Immersed in the world of magic and monsters for so long, there's little he/she does not know. The go-to for questions regarding the spooky and mystical. Tends to be at odds with the researchers for that reason. They don't like stuff they can't explain off.

Fighters You need boots on the ground, people not afraid to bust some skulls when things turn ugly. These are your people for that. They're going to fight the good fight to keep the peace...even if their average career tends to run short and end messily.

Image

SCION tends to keep plenty of data on their staff (all above board of course.)

Toggle Rules

A few small rules.

  • All standard rules apply. Don't powerplay, use proper sentences and try to spellcheck, don't make characters wildly veering off the canon, that kind of thing.
  • Treat people respectfully in the OOC. Drama is much better in-character.
  • Photographs or art works for character pictures, but I'd prefer avoiding characters that are designed with an anime universe in mind. This is fantasy, but aimed for a more realistic, gritty sort of feel, so keep that in mind.
  • Fantasy exists in this world, but it's fantasy that has limitations and rules, and fantasy that must stay under the radar. So like, no turning your characters into 50ft high dragons in the middle of a city or something.
  • If you want to try a different role other than the ones on the list, go for it, those were mostly suggestions for those not certain of what to play. Species-wise though, if you want something different, then talk to me beforehand to see if it works. Likewise if you want to do something that breaks what the characters see as established roles (like say, a good demon, or a psycohpathic fallen or a turned-werewolf who can flawlessly control their change etc.)

β€œNo shit, Sherlock,” Stride drawled, slipping her phone from her pocket now that Montana had things under control. Several missed messages; one from Issac, another from Oren. As she clicked through the texts- starting with Issac’s- she continued to speak, occasionally looking up at her company. β€œMight be just sayin’ some random shit, but I kinda doubt it. Seems too specific- β€˜specially with the whole attack n’ all. β€˜Sides, the...”

The hybrid trailed off, suddenly, staring down at her screen with an unreadable expression (masks, after all, tended to have that effect). She said nothing for a few moments, simply reading the message she had opened, before pressing down on one of the keys, and allowing Oren’s voice to drone softly out from the speakers. After a few words from the woman, Stride eventually paused the recording, walked out of the room, and pressed play once more.

Upon the message’s conclusion, Stride stayed silent for a few moments, before walking back in and muttering under her breath.

β€œWhat the fuck.”

This, of course, soon grew loud enough for the others in the room to hear, and soon enough she had brought her gaze up with a scowl. β€œWell,” she began, eyes flicking over to Montana, β€œMind tellin’ us more about what went on β€˜fore ya flounced, now that the lady’s taken care of?”

As she spoke, Stride glanced back at her phone, thumbs skipping along the keys as she typed up the proper messages; first to Oren, seeing as how she was already in the conversation.

β€˜medical’s room up and running, but we kinda had our hands full on our end. how the fuck is the cryptid alive?’

Then, to Issac,

β€˜did u rly fuck off in the middle of a mission? u better have crapped ur pants or something. orens pissed.’

Finally, Stride flicked over to Kora’s name into her contacts, typing out the most important message of all.

β€˜also, crystal wants some meat supreme pizza.’

Pizza, after all, was the most important objective.

Lulu's gaze was well met, and her searching mirrored Montana's own, somewhat younger gaze. Her baby blues were guarded, but intent. Even with the painkillers that ran through her veins her eyes held the focus needed to study who she was talking to. "Not a Wolf, no. My humanity is an issue I only debate with myself." A small joke, but one that held a small amount of truth behind it. Something to set the mood between them. 'Your mind is in good company with mine' Not in the sense that she struggled with the same things, but that one intelligence wouldn't find anything amiss in the other. That implied a lot.

"My associates simply helped you because you needed it, I imagine. I saw a person wounded in a way that didn't exceed my knowledge, so I did the same."

Stifled honesty might be best at work here, in his opinion. Crystal inadvertently said as much when she brought up the murders There was nothing to gain from outright lies. They had taken the woman to their safe house, she had seen their faces and knew the diagram of their blood. She could be a well placed spy of the White Rose, or even the Cult they were looking for. The options, were endless. One of those options was that she was a wounded vampire that meant them no ill intent, and was attacked for reasons native to herself. If they needed to wipe her mind, Derrick had his well polished loafers on ground. A memory wipe was that mans bread and butter.

"Our help has no strings attached, but if you could tell us who attacked you, it could shed some light on our situation." Our was the word he used in particular, for very good reason. Our meant, we have involved ourselves in an attempted slaying, or warning of some kind, and I'd appreciate knowing a little of what we've gotten ourselves into. He didn't expect her life story, or what she might have done before that influenced the situation. Just a what. The rest would come later.

"I can go into that in detail in a short while." He replied to Stride. "It's a bit of a long story." Loosely translated, I'd rather not talk about it in front of the vampire in case she's not receptive to who we might be.

He'd send out the message now, and quickly, pocket texting as he always did. One message. "Advise caution. Arcturus, followed White Rose member alone" He set it on a minute timer, to all standing SCION operatives.

The pace of the conversation whizzed over Lulu’s head, the mud-colored haze of her mind not able to scrutinize data at anywhere near her normal capacity. A few key phrases stuck out as important, though she couldn’t piece all of them immediately together.

She didn’t think she had much pertinent information to β€œthe murders” in question, but she did know about at least one untimely disposal of a body.

Though whether or not these were people who needed to have such information had yet to be seen.

The man’s studying glance did not unnerve her in the least, and she blinked hard, fighting her eyes to stay open and return it. β€œI dunno…” she paused in her speech, trying to pluck the right phrasing out despite her impaired processing, β€œI don’think they want me… talkin’.” The faintest hint of an old New York accent crept into her tone at the end of her phrases; an old habit trying to seize advantage of her lazy tongue.

She turned her head slowly to the side to look at the young wolf in the room, her gaze taking her in fully, as if searching for any recognition. Finding none, she cast her eyes back to her inquisitor. She stared at the jugular vein of his neck, watching the subtle rhythm of his pulse for concern, and then stared at his forehead for any sign of a cool sweat.

β€œWolves,” she said at last, her voice hardly rising above a whisper. β€œA- a pack. Tryin’a shut me… Shut me up.”

Montana’s words only got a grunt of acknowledgement in response, Stride crossing her arms over her chest as she waited. While the hybrid was more prone to violence than not, she wasn’t unintelligent; speaking on the matter with fresh ears about was dangerous.

However, Stride was still as intent to get information out of her coworker as ever. After all, not only were the details still quite hard to swallow- and even a tad hazy, although they were much clearer than when she had assumed the worst- but leaving while such a shitstorm was going on was...a bit unbelievable.

As if in response to her musings, she soon found her pocket abuzz once more. Curious, she drew her phone out, only to find a text from Montana.

...Well, that explained at least something. Somewhat placated, Stride slid the device back into her pocket, and allowed her arms to fall to her sides.

At the sound of the cryptid speaking up, Stride’s focus immediately switched back to settle upon the vampire, watching her inquisitively. It seemed that she was still hesitant; as if she expected the wolves to come bounding through the wall at any moment.

β€œLook, lady,” Stride said, β€œas long as you’re with us, ya don’t have to worry. And we’re not gonna tell anyone that you told us anythin’- we can give ya a pinkie swear if ya want. So don’t worry, yeah?”

In an absentminded motion, she rose a hand to scratch at her face, but thought better of it. β€œWhy’d they try to shut ya up? Ya said somethin’ bout a girl; were they doin’ somethin’ with her?”

In truth, Montana most likely would have been much better at squeezing information from their little guest, Stride couldn’t keep herself from jumping on the subject. This was as best of a lead as they had until Oren and the not-quite-dead cryptid arrived, and every little thing they could get mattered in a case like this.

'You're taking the hunters, and me to make sure they don't try and knife you while you're driving. Try and take a roundabout route so they can't locate it easily from any landmarks in case we need to drop them in a hurry, alright?
-O'

Issac nodded reading over the text. Oren didn’t trust them, odds are she was right to not trust them. The gears in Issac’s mind turned. Toby wasn’t a threat so much, at least to Oren, Spire would be more of an issue than him, but he could handle Spire if things went sideways like everything else had gone today.

The van was a windowless single cabin van, with a β€˜hallway’ between the driver's cabin and the rear storage section. With Toby and Oren in the back Spire would be forced to behave for the most part, Issac doubted that Spire would make a move knowing Toby was locked in the back with a vampire, granted the only thing that separated them would be a few seconds of empty space, but a whole hell of a lot could happen in a few seconds.

Issac opened the Cab, and the side rear door as the 3 person group wandered by.
β€œ Mind sitting in the back Oren? I’d like to chat with Spire for a while, catch up and all” He said with an honest smile. Hopefully Oren would catch what he was up to, and simply agree. It was better to have a set of eyes on both of them rather than keep the hunters in the back , at their backs. Human or not Issac had little doubt that Spire wouldn’t hesitate to kill both of them if he could get away with it. The last time Issac had seen the boys there was a roaring hate in the β€˜eyes, and emotion like that didn’t die easily.

Issac knew that first hand. This was going to be an interesting car ride for sure.

Issac’s phone buzzed.

β€˜
'Don't call me kiddo, and thought it was supposed to be red tape? Anyways got a neat story to tell you when you get back I found drugs and brought home a guest -C' β€˜

β€œ Wonderful, I hope you brought some home for our guest as well, This is gonna be a hell of a party. We are taking a roundabout way back to the batcave. Prep the first aid area for one badly injured cryptic with multiple gunshot wounds. Don’t say anything to your guest if you can avoid it. And no, I said what I meant, figure it out….. Kiddo. : P I. S ”

Then to stride

" long story, talk to you when I get home I.S "

Issac looked up after hitting send. He really didn’t wanna hang around here anymore… Not with the Bio-hazard crew starting to poke around. Fuck, their other vehicle was still parted around the bend. Not that there was much to do about it now… Hopefully no one had left anything important in it.

β€œ So , where too?”

(ooc: sorry i've been awol, work sucks. )

He nodded as she spoke, listening intently to every word. Werewolves were an interesting cryptid for him to deal with. Their agility, mixed with their canine physiology made non lethal takedown difficult when engaging in close quarters, the main difference being the intent behind their mutual violence. One wrong move could spell grievous injury, followed by death. Well, for humanoids anyway.

It was good she told him. If she was telling the truth, he knew what to prepare for. There was no doubt in his mind that the ramifications of their actions would resonate for some time. The girl was probably being watched in the alley, with news of her saviors traveling to the right ears once Stride and Crystal departed.

Stride chimed in, a bit ham fisted as always. Compounding her questions with his own, especially since the vampire was feeling the effects of the painkillers, didn't make sense. Montana preferred to tackle subjects like this with some amount of subtlety, showing their hand so eagerly wasn't in his immediate line of questioning.

Leading a person to a confession was better then pulling it out in his opinion. Leading them to it made them trust you a little bit more then you just asking them, to him anyway.

"Yes, we can handle any hostility that may yet arise."

Montana gave a reassuring nod, adding only that to Stride's words. It was always possible Stride could extract information as she did. He had no feelings of superiority, only an idea of how things should be handled.

β€œHey now, I was left in the lurch as much as you were.” Christina kept her tone highly controlled but clearly didn’t appreciate the insinuation that she had something to do with the mess that had gone down inside. β€œYou might not like to acknowledge it, but I’m a researcher as much as you are.” She was about to add more about her technical role within SCION, but this was when Madison texted and she exhaled audibly in relief.

Thank god you’re here. her reply went. And no, but it’s more than likely someone heard the gunshots. Let him make of that what he would. Issac’s text came next and she was caught between rolling her eyes at what now appeared to be a childish attention grab and gratitude that he had not just left them on their own with two unknown hunters and the mysterious cryptid to figure something out. And speaking of the hunters…

They came falling out of the chute and she could immediately feel that her shield was in fact gone, prompting a quiet- β€œIdiot” as she realized she hadn't imagined him removing it before she turned her back on them. Oren could order them about and be more convincing than she would be anyway. Instead, she made her way closer to the street and waved at Madison when he showed up. β€œThat friend seems to have decided to take a roundabout route.” She tapped her fingers on the back of her phone. β€œThere he is now.” She allowed a brief scowl to show before she wiped her face clear. She kept up this expression while the vampire gave instructions, and then moved over to the cryptid.

β€œMadison’s here.” She said gently, pointing at the car. β€œHe’s going to be the one working with you, but first we have to get out, yes?” she offered a hand to help the injured woman – well, she looked enough like one – off the ground.

"I see, wilco...and Arc, dont freak out." He slipped the phone back in to his pocket and walked out the door. Coming down the hall way he was faced with a group of "Bobbys" British police. "Sir I need you to come with us, this area has been declared toxic and we need to decontaminate you." Rafael smiled and spoke "As fun as that sounds, I will haft to decline" putting his hand out and muttering Thurisaz under his breath. The Bobbys all fell to the ground, moaning in pain.

"Oh stop whining, its just stomach ulcers." Stepping over the police, he turned the corner and opend the door....

...Only to walk right back in after seeing the size of the York PD and toxic waste teams waiting on the other side of the door. Grimacing, he walked back to the room they had found the cryptid and took a look down the shoot. "Well...its not the worst hole I have been in....at least the queen of Scotts was clean." He crawled through the opening and slowly inched down. After 15 minuets of slowly crawling down, he found him self at the bottom.

Grunting slightly, he let got and jumped down, landing softly in the piles of....waste. Brushing him self off and using a small flame to burn off any odder attached to his coat, he vaulted over the side of the waste bin and looked around the ally. Lighting a cigar as he walked, he strolled down the ally and around the corner. He came face to face with two gentlemen. One was holding a knife, while the other was looking and multiple directions at once. "Alright gramps, just hand over your wallet and any other shiny shit and we can be on our way." Rafael simply smiled. "As for a wallet, I do not carry one, but I do have something shiny you can see."

Opening his trench coat in a flash and bringing up the SCAR-H to bare on the knife wielders head, he spoke. "I do not think you want any thing shiny that I have, cobron." The twitchy one suddenly snapped his and growled a growl that wasn't human. Rafael grimaced again and puled the trigger just as the knife wielder lunged at him. Dropping his friend as soon as he moved, Mr. Twitchy lunged and knocked Rafael down, making him drop the rifle. Baring his teeth and snarling, he went to bite at Rafael's neck...only to find a vary cold barrel at his chin. "Bad dog." was all Rafael said before pulling the trigger twice and putting two bullets through the Lycans head.

Felling the wolf go limp, he rolled him off and got up. Those shots will have attracted the local police, I must move fast Snapping his finger, a small flame appeared. Willing it to grow, and feeling his power dwindle in return, he let loose two fire balls that engulfed the two bodies. Picking up his rifle and hiding it under his coat, he turned the corner just to hear the group of Police close in and gather around the burning bodies.

"Well, if Oren wasnt going to bitch me out, she will now." He said as he closed to the door on the "Barrowed" Mustang and stated the engine. He gunned the the car and sped off down the street. As he drove, he picked up his phone and dialed Oren. "Oren, I just got a text from Arc, I think hes been turned and is need of a blood bag, move fast...we both know how a new born can be." hanging up before she could answer, he sat back and drove towards the safe house.

"Oh yes, shes definitely bitch me out now."

Derrick was about done when Raf came out of the building and decided that now was a great time to cast all the magic in the world. Derrick gritted his teeth, Raf was dam luckily that he was here right now to clean up the idiot's messes.

Extruding more power any bystanders around's memories were altered to remove Raf and instead placed a brown colored gas in it's place complete with an unsettling smell.

It was then he spoke to the bystanders, hazmat, and police gathered his tone sounding authoritative with just a hint of panic.

"Get away from there! This is a serious leak, we need to evacuate the area!"

Of course to make his day worse Raf in all his extra brilliance decided to shoot someone then conjure fireballs and run away in a mustang. He was gonna punch that idiot or make sure to figure out a way to bind his powers until he stop acting like a high teenager.

The image of the remains bomb was placed on the bodies and burning with them.

He heard the mummers through the police as they recognized the 'bomb' burning with the bodies.

Derrick made sure to swear loudly before turning to the police chief. "Evacuate the area while I call my boss."

With that he walked away and placed a call to 'his boss' also known as Head Scion Sorcerer Saffiya Elmessiri.

"Yeah looks to be a planned attack, a brown gas was released and smelled raucous."

There was a pause as he made sure to put on a show for those watching.

"Stomach ulcers possible? A gas canister of weaponized Helicobacter pylori you think? Yeah and there was some shots and two bodies burning in a near by ally pretty sure I saw a bomb on the bodies."

Another calculated pause.

"I agree it could be someone making good on threats to the viking festival, some rif /Raf/ possibly. Can't rule out gang activity, either way I recommend reinforcements."

Hanging up the phone Derrick walked back to the police and Emergency mangers now on scene.

"Just called my boss, upper management wants the site be evacuated of all non essential personal for the moment. Myself included, only bomb squad, emergency management, and people to secure the area should be here. It was also ordered that everyone exposed be checked out by specialized doctors once the source of the gas has been found and treated asap."

With that Derrick turned to walk away following the orders given to him by his boss. Hoping back into the vehicle with tinted windows he drove away.

As he drove away he seethed, using so much magic was always a risk, it attracted attention from the supernatural community that he liked to avoid. Unlike other sorcerers Derrick preferred to keep his magical talent under-wraps.

β€œWell, then, if that’s the case, then let’s not waste any more time. Christina? Ma’am?” Madison’s voice betrayed nothing less than good-naturedness, politeness as he slid out of the driver seat to swing open the car’s door from the inside.

A niggling curiosity had settled itself in the back of his mind, peaked further by the texts that had been sent his way. Gunshots, Arc going off on his lonesome to chase down a White Rose member...While this was definitely an interesting development, Madison was intent on keeping his quiet promise of not prying just yet. Not while they were so vulnerable, at least. Walls having ears and all.

Patience was a virtue; something Madison had learned long ago.

Smiling warmly, he settled himself back into his seat, eyeing the cryptid as he waited. The most obvious thing was the mess of wrapping about her- he had taken a guess at the gender, admittedly, but it was better than referring to someone as an β€œit”- waist. Oren must have had quite a shock, Madison mused, running a finger against the wheel before switching the car back into gear.

Strangers, agents running off on their own, gunshots...He could only wonder at this point.

β€œI hope you don’t mind the clutter,” Madison suddenly began. β€œI drove here as soon as I arrived, so I didn’t have much time to drop my things off. Go ahead and move stuff around if you need more wriggle room.”

At the notion of being separated front and back seats, Spire and Toby hesitated for a brief moment, sharing another one of those split second, telling looks.

They would be able to see each other, if anything went awry. Plus, Toby would sense intent to attack. They were still on equal footing, as far as Spire could see, and Toby had no qualms. The consent was established with a glance.

Then Spire smiled. "Sure, Issac." He opened the passenger door with the metal clunk of the handle and quickly pulled his lean frame into the front seat of the truck. He buckled in and leaned his arm against the side window with the familiarity of sitting in one's own car--the same as how he spoke to Issac: as though to a comfortable pal. "Sure, let's catch up. How about you first. And uh--actually, all of you, isn't it a bit rude to sit to sit texting when you have company?"

All of the pauses for phone checks and tapping fingers were beginning to grate at him. Who knew what information was trading devices.

Toby straightened his jacket and stepped into the back, finding a seat and making a mental note of the exact position of the holsters at his sides, in case he needed to make a quick draw.

Now that they were still, with his sixth sense, he studied the creature, the source of that deep, unnatural aura. The icky one. Yet he couldn't tell whether it came from within her, or if the sense had been painted onto her by contact, if something had inflicted the icky upon her. Well. One way or another, she was clearly inhuman.

"Can I ask," Toby said to Oren, "what you're planning to do with her?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth when he sensed something else. Something familiar. Mental magic-- Derrick Avalon's?

Lulu shrunk at the masked woman’s abrasive impatienceβ€” She was asking so many questions, and so quickly that the vampire’s brow furrowed as she tried to keep up with each one.

The woman was a loose cannon, or so it seemed, but at the very least it showed that she was candid: She was too reckless with her words to have been dishonest.

Lulu took a sighing breath, finally pulling her gaze away from the man to stare at a bit of empty space just past his face. There were flecks of dust in the room, and they caught in the light and spun, leaving trails of broken luminance in their paths.

The wounds on her body had begun pulling themselves together with a subtle tugging sensation, healing in moments what would have taken a human weeks.

Even so, she knew she’d have hours to go before she would be in any shape to fight back agains those in the roomβ€” If they wanted to kill her, they likely would have done it by now.

Her stare snapped back to the man when he spoke, his even tone pulling her out of the momentary daze. She reached out faintly toward the edges of the cot, nails drumming as she sifted through the questions posed. β€œThe- The York Moors Pack,” she said at last, β€œI’ma- a private eye, kinda, β€˜nd’ve… Well, I had a lead on them, β€˜nd I checked it out… Tailed them for few days, ’nd I found’em carryin’ something. It smelled... dead. And they dumped it. So I waited for’m to leave, and looked.”

She drew a quavering breath, digging into the fabric underneath her with curled fingers. Her hands shook slightly, as she continued, β€œIt was aβ€” a body. But not like one’ve seen before. She was bashed in bad. And- and her blood. She bled green.”

She unclenched her hands, blinking heavily as the continued wave of the IV drip flowed into her bloodstream. β€œThe wolves were waiting f’me in my flat when I came back. And the rest…” Lulu gestured downward to her tattered state, β€œYeah.”

Mm, a private investigator who dug where some didn't wasn't there to be digging. Attacked so they'd shut up. It was a classic tale, one he was sure the vampire had encountered more then once in her career. It was the risk ran by anyone in her line of work. Touching secrets without the backing of the law or an organization...usually. Easily as dangerous, if not more so then espionage, depending on what secrets an investigator managed to stumble on. She must be good at her job, to have lived this long.

Green blood, their Cryptid in the morgue. Blending in with the grey tile in a way red never could. This woman had just moved up from, 'under protection' to, 'intelligence asset under protection.' Not only had she located the creature, but she had done so with traditional sleuthing ability. The wheels of circumstance continued to turn, drawing the curtain that obscured truths portrait, slowly slowly.

"The York Moors Pack." Not packless vagabonds or hitmen for hire. The local pack itself. There was always a possibility they were pawns working as a proxy for something else, but he'd save that speculation for when his team members arrived. "Giving us this name means we can watch their movements, my thanks for the added defense." He'd send a message to SCION headquarters. The Moors Pack would be moved in threat level. Operatives should be vigilant, and prepared for possible attack.

"You've told us a great deal. I won't pry into who hired you for the job, if you don't want to share. If you do, It would only serve to answer some questions I have to the nature of this situation. If you'd like to rest, I'll have two of our three leave, and the last will stay here."

"Everything you say will be handled with the utmost respect and secrecy."

He meant it. He wasn't going to get anyone killed with an offhanded comment. Loose lips, sink ships.

" Ah, sorry, force of habit." He answered without missing a beat he went a head and fired up the van. Only to hear the fairly close sound of two 7.62 x51 rounds going off, a very deep and almost lingering sound. His expression sharpened in the exact direction the sound had come from, his hand nearly finding his gun at his waist before his mind found the answer as to who had fired...

Raf...

Issac sighed turned on his blinker before turning in the opposite direction of the gunfire.
" What a mess..." he said to no one in particular. " How've you been Spire?" Issac asked, keeping his eyes forward for the most part, only glancing at all three of the mirrors. He was watching to see if anyone started following them. "Thought you two were done after that whole thing went sideways with me." went on, but with an honest curiosity in his voice. Issac needed to dig out some information from the two... who had they met, what were their motivations, and how in the actual fuck had they known about a new breed of cryptic almost as fast as Scion had?!

Issac's ears focused on Oren and Toby's conversation as much as his own.

Stride echoed Lulu’s words quietly under her breath. A private eye that very much ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, unlike what she had assumed, it wasn’t by accident. The whole event wasn’t just a matter of coincidence, of accidentally seeing something the woman shouldn’t have, and facing immediate retaliation.

A brief, almost humorous thought flickered in Stride’s mind before dying out. Werewolf mafia. Followed by that something more fitting to the situation- Kora had sent a text mentioning that she had convinced the local packs to stay out of the way, but…

Well, it looked as if one had already caused a bit of a mess.

Rubbing her hands together, Stride frowned to herself before adding to the conversation yet again. β€œWhat he really means is β€˜if ya wanna relax then I’ll boot these two outta here, and I’ll just be sittin’ here readin’ or starin’ or some shit β€˜til you’re ready.”

From the combination of her mask- effectively serving as somewhat of a muffler- as well as her usual rolling tones, it was difficult to tell whether the comment was supposed to be considered a jab, a mere observation, or even some attempt at humor.

No matter what its intended purpose, however, Stride was willing to step off nevertheless. After all, while she couldn’t be considered β€œchummy” with the man, she had worked with Montana for long enough to not be lashing out for the sole purpose of being petty. Besides, her only strong ammo at the moment had been damaged if Arc was the reason for Montana running off, anyway.

β€œAnyway, ya really are in safe hands β€˜round here, lady,” she went on. β€œMost we’ll do is be assholes.”

Spire craned around to look at his brother with mock concern. "Toby, did either of us get killed or permanently maimed last time we met Issac here?"

"Are you asking a d--dumb hypothetical question?" Toby returned.

"Just checking what the hell would make him think we were done hunting," Spire said, turning back to Issac. "You keep talking about 'that whole thing' like it went badly. Like I said, we appreciated you riding in to the rescue and all, but we accomplished what we set out to do. All's well that ends well."

Because a small coven of vampires lying sprawled in puddles of their borrowed blood qualified as "ends well" any day, in Spire's book. Plus, they'd had pretty concrete proof that these ones had killed a fair few people, and that always helped because Toby could feel justified and righteous and warm and fuzzy about it or whatever.

"And we've been great," Spire added, flicking a shard of glass the size of a nail clipping off of his dark jeans, before it could add another cut to his leg. "Business as usual."

His voice was casual, but his sharp eyes balanced watching Issac, watching the backseat, and watching outside for landmarks or for threats. Toby, too, kept his gaze out the small window at the back of the truck. Their curiosity had kept them here this long, yes, but these people could be taking them anywhere, and planning to do any number of atrocities.

The mention of rest triggered a yawn to force its way past Lulu’s lips. She made a drowsy attempt to cover it, only to realize that the arm she was trying to move was the one attached to the IV line. She ket her hand fall back down against the sheets in defeat.

She wanted nothing more than to curl up onto her side and drift off, enjoying the rare warmth that coursed through her bodyβ€” It was a shadow of what being human felt, but it was the closest thing she knew of.

These people needed intel, however, and they would get it from her sooner or later.

In a line of work where time was of the essence, it was only courteous to offer it sooner.

β€œThe client’s an old bird, whose daughter went missing a monthorso back,” Lulu explained, β€œThe girl’s an adult. So she’s just missin, β€˜nd not reported kidnapped or…” She paused to try and stifle another yawn, with little success, and ended up blinking for a few seconds longer than she had intended before picking back up, β€œβ€¦or anything like that. I caught wind someone’d seen her, and snooped around a bit, β€˜nd it turns out it was wolf territory. I heard the York Moors were loose cannons, so I figured… I was expecting them to’ve turned her.”

The fatness of her own tongue was cringeworthy to her ears, but she doubted anyone could blame her for it in the moment. β€¨β€¨β€œI keep my informants names to myself, though. ’S good business.”

The lagging end of the masked woman’s statement stuck out in her mind, and Lulu chuckled softly turned to address her. β€œThanks, I guess. For not bein’ too muchuva ass. And… I’m Lulu. Or Lady. Or whatever floats your boat. I'd ask your name, but... Idunno if someone with a mask's keen to give that out.”

Oren had hopped into the van and pulled off the stained and bloody lab coat. The vampress was planning to spend the time tidying up the gashes across one side of her face, wounds that had been sluggishly bleeding down her neck and shoulder for some time, when her phone rang.

The researcher's steely expression upon hearing Rafael speak more or less said it all about the woman's opinion on both what had happened, and him attempting to set her this task. Oren was silent for a long moment, before she sent a voicemail straight back.

" Alihambra. You seem to have a few misconceptions about this situation.First of all, do I seem to be in a good position to do that?Do you think as a vampire I just carry bags of blood around with me? Oddly enough most of my kind exercise a level of self control. Something that faszfej Longbow is a complete stranger to. Secondly, since when has this been my problem? I'm a researcher, not the appointed babysitter of all the vampires of SCION. I'd like to assume that I wasn't sent out here for my skills of dealing with field agents' negligent bullshit. Thirdly, you are talking as if you have any authority to tell me what to do. I can assure you, you don't."

She remarked upon all of this whilst watching Toby with the look of distinct suspicion, one perfected by a life of not trusting anybody, not even members of her own organization.

In some cases, especially not those in her own organization.

---

The cryptid's neon gaze flickered up toward Christina, staring dully at the sorceress, its expression now more a one of exhausted resignation than active fear, lacking the energy to do much other than go along with it.

It took the creature a few moments to realize what they wanted before it..or possibly she, struggled to comply, reaching the one working arm around the lip of the dumpster and dragging herself up, grimacing and stifling a whimper as she did so, her other arm useless and providing no means to hold the incision on her front closed, prompting spasmodic wretching that nearly pushed her over and ejected more green blood from her mouth onto the dirty concrete.

---

"I've completed all my objectives AND I bought you all pizza. They should just hurry up and promote me to a team leader because I'm obviously killing this field agent stuff."

Kora strode in through the front door of the safehouse, several pizza boxes in one hand and a bag full of drinks in the other. (The soft kind, as she very much doubted the senior officers would approve of them drinking whilst technically on duty.)

"If people aren't back I'm eating their food. Not going to suffer through cold pizza because some agent can't get his ass back on time. Cold pizza is bullshit and everyone knows it."

"I figured you might have wanted a safer life for your brother is all Spire, going off to chase god knows what through god knows where isn't exactly safe, but I'm sure you understand that better than most giving your situation." He said taking a random left turn, He'd take this path around for about 15 minutes before taking another random turn.

" That and I had asked you all to avoid things like that, not that it meant much, me asking and all. Since you forced me to intervene I lost my best lead on a human trafficking chain, after the apparent assault on one of their lower end suppliers they closed up shop and vanished." Frustration leaked into Issac's voice. "Sure you might have saved a handful of folks, and even avenged some; but now they are most likely working else where in the world. So how much good have you really done?" he spoke in a matter-o-fact tone.

He went back to a more guarded tone,as if trying not to be so abrasive. " It's not that I don't admire the spark you two have. It's just that you don't have any connection to what's going on. "He prodded.
Issac had a few intentions for this whole speech, mainly to try and ruffle some feathers and see if Spire's pride was a weak point. Secondly he was trying to keep the boys attention on him rather than the road.

" Luck can only save your skin so many times." He took a right turn, still heading in away from the safe-house.

Overhearing Oren Issac glanced at the rear view mirror. " Do we need to make a pit stop or just keep heading home?"

It looked if Oren had been just as efficient as ever, to her credit.

The stage of work the researcher was in was fairly obvious, to say the least. A neat incision, showing little signs of error or laziness. From how the cryptid held herself, it seemed as if Oren had gotten fairly deep before the supposed corpse had awakened. However, while Madison certainly respected his coworker’s work, it unfortunately made things more difficult on his side.

Seeing as he dealt with...well, living things, and it wasn’t very good for any living thing he was supposed to study to have their innards spilling out, unable to fully move, and spitting up bile-filled blood with the effort.

Grateful that he had had the foresight to be wearing one of his cheaper outfits, Madison slipped out of the vehicle once more, stepping quickly over to the cryptid. Skirting around the puddle on the concrete, he offered an arm, taking care not to get too close to the other. After all, seeing how timid she seemed, there was a chance that she might slink away- or even lash out- if provoked.

β€œCome on,” Madison said softly. β€œHere, I’ll help you into the car if you need it. Can you walk?” Soon after the words had left his lips, the vampire peered over his shoulder at Christina, lips pressed slightly- not quite a frown, but more or less a look of careful thought.

β€œSorry you ended up having to deal with all this,” he added. β€œGo ahead and sit down; we should probably hurry before anyone else arrives.” Then, in an attempt to lighten the mood,

β€œYou don’t think they’ll be too mad about the mess, do you? I mean, I spilled a bit of soda in the front on the way here, and it looks like it might end up staining.”

(Normally I would do some more tagging, but as I am currently unaware of exactly who is and isnt in the safehouse right now, I did the best I could)

"Did someone say Pizza" Jonah mentioned, as he and Liam showed up. It was kind of weird, because they hadn't made a single noise at all before now and just slipped in. This was actually a form of concealment charm that Jonah had placed on them to avoid everything inbetween them and the safehouse seeing as how things were so violent and hot.

The fact was, Jonah did not like how active things got. Between the police, the cryptids, and who knows what else, Jonah did not want to deal with anything they did not have to avoid. The concealment charm was not a strong one, but most concealment charms only lasted a short time, or at night, or some other stipulation. Magic cannot hide someone forever, it seemed. Not without a price. Jonah's concealment charm simply hid them from anything not looking for them. Since they had not engaged anyone in a fight, nor had they been seen other then by their contacts, Jonah figured they could safely get back to the safehouse using the concealment charm. Had anyone been looking for them though, the thing would have been absolutely worthless, or worse, revealed they had magic.

"You got pepperoni right?" Liam asked as he went over to grab a slice.

"Oh just shut up and enjoy the pizza" Jonah told him, before turning to face Kora. "Thank you. Its nice to know someone here has good taste in food. I don't suppose you brought back any of that Fruit Punch stuff they serve in the soda machines? Its really tasty".

"By that he means he is addicted to the stuff" Liam mentioned, causing Jonah to throw a conjured snowball into his head. Though, conjuration is the wrong word. He actually transmuted the air into water at sub-zero tempatures, AKA snow. But to appearance of others, it would have likely seemed like a conjuration. "Speaking of which, did anyone else learn anything?"

"Yeah. We learned some things, but not enough. Apparently, the blood might make vampires a little sick, but its not toxic to them. Or anything, from what I have heard so far. Additionally, I sweeped the entire city searching for magical buildup or excess magical energy in the air. Not even that old wishing well scam where people try to build up magical energy by absorbing the small amount of magic made in every wish to build up for a large ritual. Much less messy then the ritual sacrifices everyone used to make. It seems like whatever is behind this, they kept their tracks clean. We even checked with the biggest information broker in town, and she didn't seem to know anything either".

"I guess there is a second time for everything" Liam mentioned, slipping a little. He immediately went back to eating as if nothing happened, but Liam had all but confirmed they had gone to her before with something else she could not find out.

"It seems our goals continue to run parallel Lady Lulu." In the absence of a surname, he opted to combine the two names she had given. There was a regal tone to the coupling that was not lost on Montana. "We could speculate she was simply turned of her own free will, but the opposite can be said as well, and a corpse dripping with green ichor seems to speak of a more sinister direction."

He patted her bedside softly. "I don't want to bore you with what you've already thought, as I said, I won't ask you to name your employer. However if you feel as if this person is in any danger, feel free to tell us." If she requested, he'd have eyes put on her immediately. This offer for protection was less about protecting assets, and more about protecting people. A paycheck was a means of survival, but not his reason for joining SCION.

"There have been a number of missing persons in the area, as I'm sure you know." Montana removed his hair-tie, and gently shook his hair free. He swept his hair back, and placed the hair tie in his pocket. "Your help is appreciated of course, any information we find on your clients daughter we'd be more than willing to share. We've got the muscle to question the York Moors Pack, if subtle inquiries prove unsuccessful."

Who was that? Kora? To his knowledge, she'd been talking with the local wolves today, along with Mr.Wiseman. "Would one of you mind informing the newcomers we've got a guest If they haven't been informed." Montana's dark eyes looked toward the door for a moment, then back to the deep green of The Lady Lulu's. His tone wasn't commanding, it was a request, polite, and direct.

Stride gave a slight roll of her shoulders. β€œGot no problem with it,” she said. β€œJust call me Stride, yeah?” She took a moment to grin slightly under her mask. An odd, mystery organization rescuing someone out of the blue, a woman with something that sounded like a codename...Made her feel like one of those badass secret agents on a quest for justice.

Like James Bond, except with more werewolves and vampires and whatever. Which was even more badass-sounding than regular James Bond.

After the moment of pride had passed, Stride adjusted her mask slightly, pushing it back into place. The woman- Lulu- had reminded her just how uncomfortable the thing was, especially in comparison to her usual wear. She’d have to take a brief trip to one of the rooms to trade it for her goggles, as she didn’t feel quite up to making the long trip back to the hotel while still dressed like this.

She had done her duty for the day; now, she could properly take a breather.

Stride had been about to inform the little gathering of her decision when echoes of a voice had reached the room. It was a bit hard to understand what, exactly, the words were, but simple enough to match the voice to the name.

And that name brought a well-earned meal.

β€œI’ll go take care of it,” Stride said. β€œNeed to go out n’ change outta this shit, anyway.” Eyes flicking back down to Lulu, she added, β€œBut yeah; ya don’t have to worry β€˜bout the case or anythin’. And, eh,” a slight grin, β€œmight not wanna thank me too soon, there.”

Cracking her knuckles, she then proceeded to exit the room, taking a quick detour to the one suitcase she had left behind at the safehouse. Stride merely peeled off the remains of her jacket and changed her mask before leaving, however; after all, while Kora’s reaction to her waltzing up in a wolf mask and bloody costume would probably be funny, dealing with a giant head over hers usually made eating quite laborious.

Upon stepping into the main room, Stride found that more of her coworkers had arrived. The rookie boys- their names had slipped her mind- asking about information before saying something about not finding anything about blood or magical energy or whatever.

β€œWell,” she started, stretching an arm out lazily, β€œwe ended up findin’ a new lead out on festival duty. She got pretty fucked up; had to patch her up over in the medical place. Ended up seein’ too much n’ gettin’ caught.”

Stride would wait until the food was out of Kora’s hands before she mentioned the topic of the local werewolves being involved.

Instead of continuing on the topic for the moment, she turned her attention back to the two boys, squinting at them through her goggles. β€œHey, weren’t you two β€˜pposed to be on festival duty? The hell where did ya go off to?”

β€œJust lift her, Maddie. It’ll be faster.” Christina glanced around nervously, expecting their location to be uncovered any minute now, especially with Rafael’s dramatic exit. β€œAnd just give me a second.” She ran to the car and cast again, protecting the interior before conjuring a sheet. The last, especially, pulled at her reserves and she caught herself against the door. β€œLet’s just get out of here. Quickly.”

The sorceress took Madison’s suggestion and shifted the stuff in the back to make room for both herself and the cryptid, then settled in. She was still eavesdropping on thoughts as well, and she drew out her phone once more, sending Oren and Issac a few updates on Spire and Toby before they sped out of range. β€œYeah, there were a few issues…” she looked at Madison. β€œI’ll complain later, when it’s a better time, though.” As she spoke her hands moved up to rub at her temples.

When Spire was on his game, he was a very difficult man to ruffle. Issac had, however, touched the most successful sore spot--not his pride, but his brother.

"If I could convince him to stay out of it, trust me, I would," Spire said.

"Okay," mumbled Toby under his breath from the backseat. "Just k--keep talking about me like I'm not here. Whatever. It's all good."

Spire glanced back. "And he can handle himself," he added a bit more warmly. He didn't add more. People tended to underestimate Toby, and it was probably better to let them keep underestimating him.

"As for the operation...sorry about that. Some of us don't always have the resources to wait around to go after the kingpin, my friend," Spire said. "We just have to settle for making the world a better place... one branch of a human trafficking vampire coven at a time." He smiled, thrumming his fingers on the rest in the door. "Now. Is there a reason you're zig-zagging or do you need me to pull up a map for you? Please. If you're trying to keep us from knowing where you're taking us, you at least ought to blindfold us first."
