xx
xxxxx|| Description || Walking by, Evelina would most likely catch your eye with her bright hair and color make-up, though she's more than just a girl with pretty hair. She's about average for her family and actually skinnier than her siblings, though this is due to her now recovering from a eating disorder she had in high school, but she does appreciate how she looks now and has more self-love than she did before and isn't afraid to wear more revealing clothing. Though even though now she has self-love, she still is very much introverted and is mostly seen holding her stuff to her chest and staying hunched over when walking or sitting, staying as closed off as she can Eve does have a very specific style that she accepts with her style. She will often be seen wearing a wide variety of chokers; sometimes a simple lace one, but occasionally ones that have more intricate designs or with a sort of pendent in the center. What she wears tends to change throughout her mood, she mostly wears bright pastels that flow with her current hair style, often referencing that her black heart still likes to be colorful sometimesx

Evelina was always one to be more queit and secluded with social circles and crowds. She much rather spend her time wearing her headphones and writing music or drawing in her notebook than going to parties. People always judged her for either her family, her way of life, or just for who she was, so she decided to not try to satisfy their needs but to just be who she wants to be. With this, she has accepted the label of being an introvert, though one of the few labels she doesn't mind as it will lead to most people leaving her alone and keeps her out of people's eyes and away from all the spotlight.

To most people, Eve is very blunt and speaks in a serious tone most of the time, only getting excited when talking about music or her own art, but will quiet back down as to not wanting to annoy other people with talking to much. Though she is closed off with most people, the few that she call her friends and talk to often she can be joyful and be as colorful as her bright hair. With these friends she is very much ride and die and will go through hell and back for them, as long as they have proven to be kind to her and loyal. If someone tends to betray her trust of be disloyal,Evelina will hold a grudge and will not forget nor forgive.

Evelina has been known to be very pessimistic, often seeing things for the worse they are and not looking for a different side, but has been trying to see the the more brighter side of things. She understands her flaws with pessimistic as well as how she can be sarcastic with most people she talk to, being very impulsive with her words, but sometimes wishing she would take more time to think of her words before opening her mouth.

xxxxx|| Likes || Eve's very passionate about music, and is often seen wearing headphones or atleast having them around her neck, using it to get away from the world and just focus on herself. When she's not working or spending time drawing in her cheap apartment, Evelina will be at local venues to watch bands play live as its one of the few things she likes going out for. She also has the bad habit of smoking cigarettes that, she's been trying to stop, but still will light one up on a stressful day. Eve also has a very much sweet tooth, her favorite thing being any sort of cake. Besides cheap tickets to see bands playing live, Evelina will spend the small amount of money she has left over from rent and food on make-up, though usually sticking to off brand and cheap palettes as she won't ever convince herself a brush should be the same amount of an evening meal.
xx
xxxxx|| Dislikes || One of the things Eve very much despises are rich kids as they tend to think they are better than others, though it does draw the attention away from her. She will drink most drinks, but can't stand the bitter taste of coffee and much rather get some fruity drink thats much sweeter.
xx
xxxxx|| Fears || Claustrophobia, feeling vulnerable, water/drowning
xx

xx
xxxxx|| Work/School || Evelina graduated high school as no one special, no high honors or other remarkable things, just a normal person. But since then hasn't gone to school, mostly due to her family and herself not being able to support that financially. Since then she works two jobs throughout the week, though they barely give her enough hours to pay her rent and survive. Her first job is the one she actually likes, working at a music store called ALLternative Sounds, and then she tolerates because one of the few places she's been hired and not laid off/fired from yet, a stocker at Target.
xx
xxxxx|| Talents || Eve really has two talents she practices and accepts, singing and drawing. She enjoys both of these things as they don't tend to involve other people and she can use both to take her mind away from the world.
xx
xxxxx|| Strengths || Growing up with having to take care of her family and having to often contribute alot to her parent's household Evelina has learned to be very independent and doesn't often need guidance or told to do something before she's already doing it and helping around.
xx
xxxxx|| Weaknesses || Evelina is very stubborn and can get into arguments easily with things she strongly believes. This mixed with her short temper and impulsive tongue can be a dangerous and likely gets her in trouble and tight situations.

Lida's past and childhood isn't one that was positive or something she reflects on to make her happy. Her parents came over early in their lives together, both barely adults, but refugees fleeing from their home country. In their minds they could come to America, always hearing how great it was, following 'The American Dream.' As they settled in New York City, life was different but in a different way than it was back where they fled. They were met with much discrimination and struggled to find somewhere to live, let alone somewhere to work. After months of living on the streets they scrapped enough money to start renting out a small apartment complex in a lower income area, but it was a bed with walls.

Her parents struggled for many more years, but eventually they took over a small laundry mat next to a gas station and was able to start saving money and enjoying their company, and deciding to finally start a family. Evelina was the third child born to them, having two older brothers. Growing up the apartment they lived in didn't have much room so she shared a room with her brothers most of her life. One of her brothers dropped out of high school to help with the family business, while the other was killed by a stray bullet by a drive-by at the local park.

Eveline struggled in high school. Not because of grades, but just getting along with others and making friends. She was often bullied for where she lived and what she wore, as well the accent she got from her parents, eventually practicing enough to where it was barely noticeable. Along with her accent, she didn't look like most american girls and people would make fun of how she looked. With so much in her life going on Eve was barely able to graduate high school, but after increases prices in their rent for their apartment and business, along with funeral expenses for her brother, her parents barely had enough money to continue on, let alone any possible left-overs for Evelina to go to college or university.

After months and years of saving up money, and even sometimes stealing for her parents, Evelina finally moved out to her own place. It wasn't much, and it wasn't even bigger than her apartment she shared with her family, but it was somewhere she could call her own. She would spend most of her time working numerous jobs, most of them only lasting a couple months at most before either being "let go" or her quitting because of drama she didn't want to deal with. She eventually landed a job at a local music store called ALLternate Sounds and actually enjoys working their, but the pay still isn't enough so she has a second job as a late night shift worker and stocker at the Target across town. When not working she is usually spends her time at her place of work drawing and listening to music, in her apartment singing to herself, or staying up late doing online night classes. She hopes to one day possible get into a real school.

Walking through the city wasn’t Jeffrey’s idea of a good time; there were too many people, too many noises, and the overwhelming anxiety that he was going to get lost. He was from a city, of course, but it was nothing compared to New York. He felt a little homesick, at times. Indiana seemed so simple in comparison. But especially when he knew he would be spending his birthday by himself. He was sure his friends would talk him into going out and doing something, but it just wasn’t the same. He had always tended to lean too much on his family, and though he and his sister constantly competed and argued with one another, he missed her the most. Most of the time, it didn’t bother him, he was pretty used to being away, but this was the first year they hadn’t used some form of creative scheduling to make it work so that they could somehow, even if they were on facetime, celebrate together.

Jeffrey had found the music store entirely by accident; he wasn’t super into music (he liked it, sure, but it wasn’t a passion of his), and didn’t typically go into music stores, or even actually buy albums. He’d happened upon the store while he was trying to find a gift for his sister, though the moment he stepped through the doors, he knew he was in way over his head. He’d never heard of even a fraction of the bands he saw on the shelves, and didn’t have a clue where to begin.

He slowly walked through the store, feeling lost and useless for a good thirty minutes before he decided he should ask for help. Did he even know what kind of music his sister was into? He couldn’t ask her, that would be weird. They didn’t even actually text one another, the most communication they regularly had was sending the occasional meme. He tried to think of her general vibe, anything that might help, but ultimately he knew that she just liked her music loud and obnoxious.

With a smile, he walked up to the counter, “Hi, you work here, right?” Stupid question, don’t dwell on it, “I’m looking for something for my sister, our birthday is coming up, and I can’t be there this year. I’m still not really used to not celebrating with her, so it just feels weird knowing that I won’t be there.” He paused, realizing he was oversharing, and attempted to reign his story in, “She just likes music a lot, and I am not an expert. At all. But I thought that maybe getting her something she doesn't already have would be really cool.” He briefly laughed at himself, and shrugged, “Could you help me?” He smiled at her; he was going for charming, but it was perhaps coming off as desperate. “I would really appreciate it.”

Growing up in New York wasn’t the greatest, but it’s all Evelina has ever known. The bustling streets, the stop and go traffic, the constant motion of the city and everything in it. But with something constantly in motion, there would be struggles, and that was the main theme of Eve’s life. Though through the years she's learned to get through it or just ignore it until whatever is causing her issues is gone or no longer her problem.

One of the few things that New York gave Eve to enjoy was her job at ALLternative Sounds, bit of an underground music store, but still had a small corner for mainstream music. When she entered she quickly put on the only thing that was mandatory at her job, a name tag. Unfortunately since all her paperwork had her actual name on it, so did this name tag, Lida. Though it was an easy fix as Eve just crossed it out and put her middle name on it, the name she goes by everywhere else except around family.

Today was a normal day at her job, mostly just stocking new stuff that came out over the weekend and of course reorganizing albums that some kids would come in and always put things in the wrong spot. She worked with a small team of two other people as the store wasn't too big for them to run, and the boss man was usually upstairs doing manager things, Evelina didn't really care what he did as long as she got paid at the end of the week. She was putting some new CD's on display in the window when the door dinged and as someone walked in. Though it looked like he went to college, he looked more like eh listened to pop music or whatever else they are playing on the main radio stations. Eve ignored him as he walked around and went back behind the counter to make sure everything was good.

Eve had her back to the counter when someone asked if she worked here. I'm behind the counter, what do you think. she thought to herself, but knew she couldn't say that out loud. "Yeah, I do. What you need?" She said as she turned around, a little surprised to see the man that entered a long bit ago, assumed he had left. She barely listened to him as she took a more detailed look over him, and Eve would be lying if she said he didn't at least look cute. From what she did hear he was looking for something for his sister for a gift. "Sure, just follow me." She said as she walked from behind the counter and lead him to some of the aisles.

"So, what does she like? Know any similar artists or genres I can work with?" Eve asked, as she flipped through some CD's. "Also I think I heard you say 'our'? You two twins or something?" She tried making some small talk as she searched, the two looked down some more aisles and then she figured out what she would like after he gave some more information. "Oh wait!" She quickly turned a corner and dug deep behind some CD's looking for what came to her mind.

"Here. New up and coming band, originally based locally." Eve smiled to herself, handing him a CD from the band Beautiful Strangers. "They have some unique sounds, pretty new, I doubt she has it. She should like it though." She said as she grabbed another CD. "And here's Sophie's Valentine. Personal favorite to be honest."

Jeffrey nodded when the woman- Evelina- said she’d help him, and told him to follow her. He wondered if she got stuck with an old nametag, or if she just wasn’t the biggest fan of her name, but ultimately he knew it didn’t really matter. He was here to get a gift for his sister, and she’d forget all about him once he left. She was pretty, though, and had a unique style about her, too. Jeff liked that, honestly.

She asked him what kind of music he liked, and Jeffrey sighed to himself before answering, “If I’m being honest, I’m not totally sure. She likes loud music, with singers that wear tight pants.” the fact that that was the only thing he’d ever really noticed about her music was, perhaps, not the best review of him as a brother, but it was true enough. She asked him about him and his sister being twins, and he talked as they went looking through the shelves, “Yeah, we’re twins. We were always together growing up, but I guess that’s normal.” The chuckled to himself, almost nervously, “She’s always been cooler than I am, though.” Yeah, that was exactly the sort of thing you tell a pretty girl, that you’re not cool.

He tried to remember some of the bands or songs he knew she liked, and offered them when they came to him. Jeff offered a polite smile when Eve handed him some cds she thought his sister would like. He turned them over, checking out the cases for a second. He really didn’t know what made for good music, but they looked like bands she might like, so he figured they would be good picks. She pointed out that one was a favorite of hers, and he smiled at that, “Thank you,” He cleared his throat, “I mean, I know it’s your job, but still. I was a little hopeless.”

He followed her back to the counter, so he could check out, and he couldn’t help but want to say something to Evelina. He knew this was where she worked, and he didn’t want to be creepy, but he just kind of liked her. It could go horribly wrong, but worst case scenario, he never had to come back to this particular music store. New York was a big city, so his chances of running into her and seeing her wherever he went were probably pretty low. “I, um,” Keep it cool, Jeffrey, “I really like your hair.” Come on, you can’t think of anything better than that? This girl probably gets that constantly: she’s a cute girl with cool hair, working in a cool music store. “I just mean that, you know, you’ve got this cool and unique vibe going on, and you-” He stopped, and all but laughed at himself, “I’m sorry, that was weird.” He made a mental note that he was bad at flirting, “You’re just very pretty, and I’m a little awkward.”

He paused, realization dawning on his face, “Oh, I know you’re at work, I’m not… I mean I know that you’re being nice because you have to I just…” He shook his head, “Sorry. Thanks for your help.”

“No problemo.” Evelina said as she started heading to the counter to ring him up, walking ahead of him in case he saw anything and so he wouldn’t have to wait. As she grabbed the things to scan she noticed him staring at her, but not like the usual creeps would, more than just checking out her body. He handed her his debit card and she held it in her hand for a second before swiping it. Jeffrey Brooks… hmm. She thought to herself before the boy, Jeffrey said some that caught her attention. “Huh?”

Eve smiled a bit when he stuttered and said he liked her hair, a comment she got often. Though as he continued she giggled a bit to herself as it was cute. Not just what he was saying, but how he was saying it. Most guys that came in here would throw out some dumb pick-up line or pretend to be all into the music she liked, but this Jeffrey guy seemed genuine and honest. Plus the normal creep would try to impress her, he already called himself not cool, so she knew that wouldn’t be happening.

Evelina accidently let out a laugh as he called himself awkward, and covering her mouth. “No, sorry. I don’t mean to laugh at you. Just…” A smile crept across her face as she stared down at the counter. “Thanks, and I appreciate the kind words Jeffrey, you ain’t so bad yourself.” She said as she swiped his card and finished up the transaction, and bagged up the CDs for him. “There’s also download codes for the music on the receipt right here.” Even said as she grabbed a pen and wrote on the receipt.

Eve smiled as she handed him the receipt. “Have a nice day.” She said with a smile. “And we close in an hour in case you wondered.” She continued with a wink, before she turned back and went through a couple of drawers, finally letting her cheeks get red as she was trying not to blush when he was talking to her. Evelina shook her head a bit thinking about what she did with the receipt. There weren’t download codes for the CDs, she just wrote her phone number and circled it, plus telling him when they would be closing on the off chance he would message her. But Eve had no idea if he would even notice her phone number on the receipt or pick up ont he hints she was saying.

It wasn’t often Evelina gave her number out to people, let alone guys who try to hit on her at work as she always thought it was annoying, but Jeffrey seemed really nice and with how he was trying to find a gift for his sister showed how sweet he was. Plus him getting awkward with trying to flirt was cute.

She laughed at him, which would have been more devastating if not for the fact that Jeffrey knew his attempt at flirting was pathetic. She apologised for laughing, and complimented him, herself, but Jeffrey just shook it off. She was probably just trying to be nice. At this point, he honestly just wanted to move on, maybe get something to eat. He never flirted with people, and this was why, he tended to get frazzled and make himself look stupid.

Evelina mentioned that there was a download code for the music. Jeff didn’t really buy cds, he did most of his music listening through streaming services, so that struck him as a little odd, but as it had literally been years since he’d bought a physical copy of an album, but his sister had mentioned that amazon gave you a digital copy of music you purchased, so a part of him just figured that it had become a common practice now. But then she said the place closed in an hour. Which was weird. Then the thought occurred to him that she probably just wanted him to leave so she could start cleaning up or whatever she had to do. So he smiled, thanked her again, and then he left.

As he walked away, he started to run over the interaction in his head. It felt a little weird, he’d probably made her uncomfortable, which wasn’t his intention. He decided to stop kicking himself over the whole thing: he couldn’t change the past. He’d have to ask his sister or one of his female friends for an opinion on how that had gone later. He was actually sitting on the subway when he got curious about the download codes for the music. He figured that maybe he could give them to his sister. She might like to have a digital copy in case anything happened to the cds. He fished out the receipt to look at it, and it took him a moment to understand what he was looking at. Not a download code, a phone number. Wait, he thought, working out what that meant at all but a snail’s pace. She’d been flirting with him. He spent longer than he would like to admit trying to decide what to do, but eventually (after consulting his roommate), he settled on the idea that she gave him his number because she wanted him to contact her in some way. He decided on a text message.

Music Store Girl
Hey, it’s Jeffrey. The awkward nerd from the music store.

He sent the message just like that, but he quickly realized what a terrible opening that was, and quickly sent another message.

Music Store Girl
If you haven’t eaten yet, we could grab a bite to eat? If you’re interested?
:)

He had deleted and re-typed the smiley face a total of four times before he decided to leave it in and send the message and a part of him felt like he was being presumptuous, but she had told him the store was closing soon, so that had to mean something.

After a little back-and-forth, it was set, and Jeff was going to meet her outside the store. It was a little after closing time when he’d managed to make it back to the store, and he hoped that he hadn’t made her wait too long, and that she understood that getting around in the city wasn’t always the easiest thing to accomplish. When he saw Eve, he smiled, hoped his nerves weren’t too obvious, and said, “Hey!” He paused for a moment before continuing on, “Thanks for,” What was he even thanking her for? Giving him her number? Agreeing to go out with him? That was weird. So instead of finishing that thought, he cleared his throat and half-gestured for her to lead the way, “What kind of food do you like?” Personally, moving to New York had opened Jeff up to an entirely different world of foods, and he still ran into things he’d never tried before on occasion. He didn’t like it all, but he was always willing to try something new, so he figured that they would probably just go with whatever it was Evelina liked.

The rest of Evelina’s shift went by slowly for only having an hour left before she would get off and go home. She kept her phone on the counter and peaked occasionally whenever she would get a notification, not wanting to admit it but hoping the boy from earlier would message her, though she probably scared him away. Eve eventually put her phone in her back pocket and out of view so she could focus more on work, though there wasn’t much exactly to focus on, only some woman who came in about five minutes before closing.

Usually someone coming in at the last minute before closing would annoy Eve, but she didn’t feel like trying to argue with the woman, already seeing she was the type that would make a big scene about how they should stay open for the customer. Instead Eve just got started on her closing checklist, the few things she could do while the woman walked around aimlessly, thought it was mostly just cleaning up her many, many sticky notes she would leave around for herself.

As the woman finally left without buying anything, Evelina’s phone buzzed. “Who the fuck is messaging me...?” She asked out loud, a bit annoyed the woman who just left. She didn’t mind that she came in so late, but coming in late and not buying anything and wasting Evelina’s time, that she did mind. When Eve took her phone out of her pocket, it was a number she didn’t recognize and was confused at first, but then remembering she gave her number out, as well as the message saying who it was, a light smile came over her face. She was about to reply when she noticed him typing another message and was curious what he was going to say and waited. It was a long minute before the short message asking if she wanted something to eat. Evelina quickly saved his number in her phone before replying.

AwkwardCuteGuyJeffrey
ello! i skipped lunch today so am hungry :3 should b off work soon

Eve quickly replied, as well as continuing the conversation a bit for until she had to really focus on finishing on closing the store. Most stores in New York stayed open pretty late, but where she worked they closed early on Wednesdays, just to give them all a little bit of recreational time. Though if it was up for Evelina she would work later so she would make more money.

After cleaning up and getting everything done for closing, Evelina clocked out and grabbed her jacket as she walked outside, sending Jeffrey a message saying she was off, and she had to wait a bit for him to show up. It wasn’t long until he arrived, saying hi and thanks, “Hey there!” She replied, before he asked what type of food she liked. “I’m probably the most in love with doner and kebabs.” She said as the two of the began walking, and keeping a little bit of conversation between the two.

When the two of them were two blocks away Evelina remembered something, something that she was supposed to do after work, but got distracted with Jeffrey. “Fuck…” She signed out, Jeffrey quickly asking what. “I was supposed to cash my check from work, and the bank I use is on the other side of town. Won’t be able to get doner. Ugh” Eve said as she leaned against a wall and letting out a breath. Though Jeffrey spoke up and quickly offered to pay, and usually Evelina would decline the offer, she hated when she had to have people pay stuff for her. It made her feel like she owed them or like she was less than them, a feeling she already had to battle every day with other people. But she was hungry and were almost there, so she just agreed. “Fine. But only this time. I don’t like owing people.”

Evelina said what kind of food she liked, and Jeffrey just nodded, “Well, then that’s what we’ll have.” As they walked and talked, Jeff noticed how easy it seemed to be to talk to her. He often felt like he had trouble holding conversations with people, especially right after meeting them. He didn’t know if this was what people meant when they talked about meeting someone and having a connection that “clicks,” or if Evelina was just particularly patient and good at conversation. Either way, he didn’t mind it.

They’d been walking for a while when she stopped. By her word choice, Jeff guessed something was wrong, so he asked, “What’s wrong?” Her explanation brought two possibilities to mind. She hadn’t cashed her check and was genuinely short on cash, or she had changed her mind and was trying to come up with an excuse to get out of going to dinner with him. If he were being honest, he could accept either one, but he did want to know which was the case.

“I’ll pay for yours.” He didn’t even have to think about offering to pay, of course he would. When she agreed, he smiled, and quickly shook his head when she said she didn’t like owing people, “Don’t worry about it. I asked you, I’ll pick up the check. You won’t owe me anything.”

It wasn’t much longer before they got to the place Eve recommended. Jeffrey didn’t know what to order, so he just went with whatever she suggested.

“So, um,” Jeff didn’t want things to suddenly get awkward, so he felt the need to keep the conversation moving, “What do you like to do? Like. For fun.” The thought that she had known what he meant before he clarified crossed his mind. Because, of course she knew. He felt like he looked like a kid on his first date. His roommate and friends had been telling him he needed to get out there more, but if he were being honest, he didn’t give himself a whole lot of time to do so. He spent a lot of his free time studying, which, if he were being honest, was probably what he should have been doing. Typically, when he wasn’t studying, he was just doing whatever his roommate felt like doing. That was potentially dangerous, but she wasn’t all that bad.

The two of them continued as Jeffrey said Eve wouldn’t owe him anything. She rolled her eyes a bit, people always said that and then later on use helping her against her to get what they wanted. But atleast right now Jeffrey seemed like a pretty nice thing, and even if he did try to make her owe him, doner wasn’t all that expensive, especially the place she would frequent on late nights.

By the time the two of them arrived at the doner place. It wasn’t an actual restaurant where people could walk in and take a seat, it was mostly just a window in a wall with about five or six tables out front where people could eat. They would call your number shortly after you ordered and you’d have to go up and get it. It was simple and it allowed Eveline to not have to interact with so many people. Though she would visit this place often enough well she got to know the cooks behind the window so they would occasionally bring her food to her if she wasn’t paying attention or browsing through her phone.

“I’ll just have a doner box, white and red sauce.” Eve said resting her crossed arms on the counter and looking over at Jeffrey. She suggested what she got, saying it was kebab meat ontop of fries with yogurt sauce on it, he shrugged and said he would have it. The man quickly took Jeffrey’s payment and looked over at Eveline “Erkek arkadaş Lida?” He asked. She just rolled her eyes at him and led Jeffrey to a table. “Shut it Omer.” She said as the two of them sat down.

The two of them sat down and Jeffrey quickly started making small talk, asking about what she likes to do, causing her to blush a bit when he was being cute again with being awkward. “Well Jeffrey, I- Can I call you Jeff?” She interrupted herself speaking, and Jeff nodding that she could. “Well Jeff. When I’m not working two jobs and trying to deal with my family, I tend to be mostly buried in music or drawing in my sketch book.” Pulling out her sketch book of her bag and placing it on the table and sliding it over to Jeff, not sure if he would actually open it or not.. It was black and said LIDA across the top of it , but that also looked scribbled out like her name tag and just said eves dont open. “It’s not that great, but it’s something I do since I don’t tend to hang out with others often.”

Evelina stopped talking as one of the cooks brought out their food. “Two doner boxes, one for the gentleman, and one for little Lida.” The man said in a heavy turkish accent, which caused Eve to roll her eyes. Jeffrey said thanks as the man walked away, but he turned and asked about the Lida thing, and also pointing at her name tag that she forgot to take off and referencing the sketc hbook. She gasped a bit and turned a bit red, embarrassed about still wearing her name tag and quickly unpinning it and putting it in her bag. “Sorry. My real name is Lida, but Evelina is my middle name and I go mostly by the in recent years.” She said before stabbing a fork into the box and taking a few bites. After swallowing and taking a sip of her fanta, she looked back at Jeff. “Enough about me. I’ve been mostly talking. Your turn.” Evelina said with a smile, a little bit of wicked behind it. She knew she was putting him on the spot, but found his little mannerisms cute.

Jeffrey couldn’t help but smile at the way the people who worked at the place were acting. He figured Eve must come here pretty often for them to be so familiar with her.

When she asked if she could call him Jeff, he nodded, and she went on talking before he could even get the words “yeah, everyone does” out of his mouth. He was a little surprised that she was letting him see her sketchbook just like that. She either didn’t mind who saw her art, or he was just used to particularly shy artists. He looked at the cover for a minute, a little conflicted at the eves don’t open directive; but he figured that since she handed it to him, she likely didn’t mind if he flipped through it. “I like your drawings… Or, uh, art?” He never knew how to properly refer to the things creative people made. It was always either “these aren’t drawings, Jeff,” or “man, these are just doodles,” but the truth was that he loved seeing the things other people made. He wasn’t the most creative person out there, so it blew him away to see how people could do things like that.

When a man brought out their food, he handed the sketchbook back to Eve. There was a little more teasing about them being on a date, but Jeff just smiled and thanked the man before he walked away. Then he turned to Eve, “Not to pry, but I’m a little curious about the whole Lida thing. You know, these guys are calling you Lida, it was on your sketchbook,” He pointed out the name tag still pinned to her shirt, “And the name tag.” He looked at his food, trying to decide on the best first bite to try as Eve removed her name tag and put it away. He nodded at her explanation, “No, don’t apologise. I was just curious.” He thought Lida was a nice name, but she didn’t seem to like it, so he didn’t say anything. She’d probably think he was just trying to be nice, anyway.

When Eve asked Jeffrey about himself, a look of panic crossed his face for a split second. How was he supposed to talk about himself without making himself look like the most boring person on the planet? In the end, he figured that there was no use trying to act like he was more exciting than he really was. “I, uh, I’m in college right now. Studying physics. So I spend most of my free time studying. I don’t mind it though, I like math and science. And all that... Stuff.” He shrugged, “Though, I really love stargazing. Back home, I used to make star charts. You know, map them out and everything.” He gestured up towards the sky, “New York’s not always the best for that, though.” He smiled, “My grandparents live way out in the middle of nowhere, back in Indiana, the stars are so beautiful there. I fell in love with space then. I used to want to be an astronaut, but,” He paused to laugh, “Now I think that’s a little unrealistic.”

He cleared his throat, he’d talked too much about space. “I like bikes, too. Always wear a helmet.” That was worse, somehow. He quickly took a bite of his food as a way to force himself to shut up. When he finished the food in his mouth, he said, “I like this,” Pointing down to the remainder of his food, “Good choice.”

Evelina giggled a bit as she saw Jeffrey’s facial reaction to being asked about himself, even though it wasn’t there long before he began to talk. She listened to him talk, one elbow on the table with her hand holding up her head while her other hand scooped up some foot. Eve turned her head a bit when he spoke about math and physics. A bit surprised, but that was mostly due to her not being exactly good, or even average, in math, and never even touching physics.

But what Jeffrey spoke about next did make her a bit jealous. Star gazing. It was only something she had only heard about online or in TV shows. With the light pollution in the city, it was hard to see stars at night, and Evelina never had the time, money, or transportation to head out of the city to see actual stars. So hearing Jeff talk about these things actually intrigued her, putting her fork down and staring at Jeffrey. Eve nodded when he said New York wasn’t the best place to stargaze, and talking about going over to Indiana. She also found it a bit cool that he wanted to be an astronaut. But letting out a bit of a giggle with his bike comment and saying to wear a helmet.

“An astronaut? That’d be pretty cool. I’ve never really thought of big goals like that. Like, I guess I wanted to be a teacher at some point, but got caught up with family things and just working a lot I sort of lost sight of that, you know?” Evelina glanced around, picking back up her fork and poking at her food. “Glad you like the food, as I said, one of my favorite places to go.” She continued, finishing her food and taking a sip of her coke.

One of the workers came by and grabbed their empty food containers, Evelina thanking them. “Hey, don’t laugh at me. But I’ve never really seen the stars. Like, I’ve seen some but nothing like you talked about…” She trailed off. “Never really had the -” Eve stopped herself, almost admitting not any money to do anything… “Time you know? To head out of the city, something I haven't actually done before. Star gazing would be cool to do one day...” Eve trailed off again, grabbing her notebook and putting it into her bag.

As Eve spoke, Jeffrey realized that he’d never even had to think about giving up his dreams, there was always enough money that he could at least entertain it all. Sure, his life wasn’t perfect, but he could afford to follow his dreams. He’d never thought about the fact that not everyone could.

But when Evelina said she’d never seen the stars, he felt a little sad for her. It wasn’t as if seeing the stars were necessary for a happy life, but he loved them so much, and he couldn’t imagine not being able to see them clearly. There were a few places in New York for stargazing, but they were only any good at certain times of the year, and they all still suffered from being in one of the biggest cities in the world. He understood never really seeing the stars if someone had lived in the city their entire life. Hell, most people who lived somewhere they could clearly see the stars didn’t ever pay them much attention.

Jeffrey wasn’t normally particularly impulsive, but he’d already asked out and gone to dinner with a pretty girl the day he met her, and there she was, wistfully talking about seeing the stars. What was one more impulsive decision? He pulled out his phone to check the time, if they left right away, they could probably catch the next train out of the city. “Would you like to go right now?” He stood up and shrugged, struggling to keep up the level of confidence he’d just asked with, “We can catch the train if we hurry.” He remembered then that she’d forgotten about her paycheck, and she might object because she wouldn’t want him to pay for her, “The weather’s nice, and it’s not too cloudy, it’ll be perfect.” He smiled, “So long as you’re comfortable with it, I’d love to go stargazing with you. I could probably point out some constellations for you.”

There was always the chance she might think he was a serial killer or something, so he wouldn’t blame her if she said no because she didn’t feel safe, but otherwise he really did think he might have to insist.

Evelina was staring off the side watching some people walk by, a bit of people watching while taking a sip of her drink. She turned her head back was Jeffrey asked her a question, a bit of a spontaneous one that caught her off guard. “Like, right now, right now?” She asked before he said if they could still catch a train if they hurried. Eve wasn't exactly sure what to say, the little date was going well so far, but to go outside the city with someone she just met, so late, and one the first date. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't a tad bit cautious or thrown off by the question.

Jeffrey continued talking about the stars, that he could possibly show her some constellations. Eve was thinking of saying now, but when he asked if she was comfortable with it, she felt a bit more at ease. “You know, fuck it. Let’s go. But if you do end up being a serially killer, I better end up in the documentary about you.” She said with a wicked smirk as she grabbed her things and stood up. “Oh, and you aren’t buying my train ticket. You can pay for yours, but I know the way around the subway to get away with paying for tickets.” Evelina had taken the train more times without paying than times when she did paid, it was easy enough to jump a turn-tile and quickly outrun the glorified security they had in the booths. "I'm assuming its the U-Line that heads out of the city? Pretty sure there's an entrance around the corner." She continued as she started to head the entrance.

Evelina was a bit worried Jeffrey would judge her and maybe not like her for doing “illegal” things like not paying for train tickets, but what type of guy didn’t like a bad girl at times. She stayed ahead of Jeff for most of the walk, slowing down once they got to the entrance and walking beside him as they went down the stairs. Eve stared at him a bit with a smile subconsciously, quickly darting away when he caught her stare. Once they got to the end of the stairs, the turn tile and payment for tickets was right around the corner. “So… you wanna head through and pay first and I’ll meet you on the other side? I promise I won’t ditch you.” Eve asked, and nodded as Jeffrey quickly bought a ticket and went through to the other side.

Eve hung back for a minute, but knew she had to hurry as the train would be approaching soon. She quickly saw her chance as a group of friends had a group ticket and was scanning through and slid between them flawlessly, giving a smile and mouthing thank you to one of the guys, tho he was probably just confused. “See, that easy.”Evelina said with a smile to Jeff, but quickly felt a tap on her shoulder and hearing a voice. “Excuse me ma’am…” Eve froze for a second before turning around and seeing a man in subway security uniform behind her, a bit more on the older side. Before he could say anything else, she quickly ran and tugged Jeff behind her. “Run! Lets go David!” She shouted, purposely using a wrong name. The two of the weaved between people and bumping into others. “Excuse me, sorry, coming through.” Eve quickly said.

She saw the train had arrived at the station a few second ago and was getting ready to leave. Luckily someone saw the two of them running and held the door for a split second just in time for the two to get inside and the doors shut behind them as the train started moving. Eve turned back and saw the security guard and stuck her tongue out at him before taking a seat, with Jeff, giggling a bit to herself. “Heheh, that was fun wasn’t it?” She said, before realizing she was still holding Jeff’s hand and quickly let go out, a bit embarrassed. “I promise no more rowdy from me, I’ll let you buy the return ticket.”

Jeffrey deflated a little at Eve’s initial reaction. Of course she wasn’t going to want to go with him, and it was stupid of him to have asked. But when she said yes, a mixture of excitement and dread swelled within him. A part of him had almost been hoping she’d say no: he’d done fine during dinner, but he was almost sure he’d do something stupid or be exessively boring and make her regret this entire date if they spent too much more time together. At the same time, he didn’t want this time they had together to end.

He shrugged at Evelina’s joke about him being a serial killer, “You’d be my first victim, so I’d say you might get a decent portion of the documentary.” He nodded when she insisted that she wouldn’t let him pay for her subway ticket. Jeff figured that was fair enough, though all he said was, “Okay.”

He let Eve lead the way to the station, putting his hands in his pockets as he walked. This entire evening had been full of more impulsive behavior than Jeffrey normally displayed in a month (at least, without the influence of his friends), but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t having a great time. Evelina was interesting, and talented, and there was something about her that Jeffrey found so charming. Maybe there was something there. She slowed down to walk down the stairs, and he just barely noticed her looking at him out of the corner of his eye. Of course, she looked away the moment he turned to look at her, but he couldn’t help but smile.

Somehow, it hadn’t even occurred to Jeffrey that Evelina might ditch him until she’d told him not to worry about her ditching him. “Okay,” He said, and- fighting the urge to ask if she was sure she didn’t want him to just pay her fare- added, “I’ll wait for you right inside.”

It didn’t take him long to get through the turnstiles and find a place to stand that was out of the way, but not somewhere Eve would have trouble finding him. As he waited, it struck him that he should text his roommate to let her know he might not be back until late. Not that she would worry, but there was a chance she might get worried, so it was better to let her know. He slid his phone back into his pocket as Evelina walked up to him. “Hey, if it works.” He said, with a smile and a shrug. Then a guard approached, and even though he’d personally done nothing wrong, Jeff found himself feeling nervous.

He didn’t get much of a chance to react, though. Eve grabbed his hand and started pulling him through the crowd. Jeff didn’t even really register her calling him David; it just rolled right off his back. He nearly ran into someone and said, “Sorry!” He actually did bump into someone else and shouted, “So sorry!”

There was a moment when he thought they were going to miss the train, but someone saw them running and held open the door, giving them just enough time to get inside before the doors closed. “Thank you so much,” He said to the stranger, who’d already started to move on. Jeff couldn’t help but laugh when he heard Evelina giggling, but he shook his head, “I’m not sure I’d classify that as ‘fun.’ Very thrilling, though.”

They only let go of each-other’s hands when they’d settled into a seat. The subway car wasn’t overly crowded, so there was a seat available for both of them. Jeff was thankful for that. He laughed when Eve promised not to be rowdy later, and nodded, “I’m not sure I could handle a repeat of that.” After the excitement, Jeffrey wasn’t sure what to talk about, but he also didn’t want to have any awkward silences to make this whole thing feel uncomfortable. As he was struggling to figure out what to do, he felt his phone go off in his pocket. He was sure it was from his roommate, probably some sort of “I wasn’t worried about you. Stop texting me on your date, loser.” Instead, he found himself staring at a screen of surprisingly sexually explicit emojis. Instantly, he felt incredibly embarrassed, and mumbled, “Why are you like this?” With a sigh.

Eve was still smiling as they were sitting down and the train went through the tunnels under New York, towards the outskirts of the city. She shrugged in a friendly manner when Jeff joked about not being able to handle the mischief again. The train wasn’t too crowded, but enough people that Eve would still be able to people watch. She enjoyed creating stories in her head about whatever person or group of people she was watching, sort of making up little TV shows about them. Most of the time they were way off of what the people actually did, but there was no fun in a boring life to Evelina.

She was brought out of her daydreaming and people watching when she overhead Jeff say something, mumbling a question under his breath. “Why am I like what?” Eve asked in response, not entirely sure what she did to warrant a question like that. Jeff quickly cleared the air saying it was about his roommate and not her. Evelina caught a glimpse of the messages on the phone, well, emojis. “Oh…” Quickly turning towards the window and just staring outside, trying to hide the redness of her face. “I’m sorry, but I’m not like that. I mean, I have, but…”[/color] She trailed her sentence off without finishing it.

Jeff quickly spoke up, trying to say that he wasn’t that type of guy and speaking quickly. Eve found it cute as he continued to talk, being a bit awkward and trying to convince her she was attractive. “It’s okay, Jeff I-” Evelina was quickly interrupted as the train car announced they had arrived at the stop that she and Jeff would need to get off. “I guess this is it. I’ll let you lead since I have zero idea where we are or even going.” She said as she stood up with Jeff with a light smile. Eve followed him out of the train car and onto the platform, gripping and pulling her jacket over herself. It was worn and sort of old, so she wasn’t able to button it up as most of them had either fallen off or the holes for the buttons ripped.

“Why am I like what?”

For a brief moment, Jeff thought he might die. Of course Eve would think he was talking about her if she overheard that. Why wouldn’t she? “No,” He said, maybe a little too quickly, “It’s my roommate. She’s, uh,” He shrugged, “A character.” Evelina’s reaction after that was a surprise to Jeffrey, though, and he had no idea what she was talking about, at first.

Once he realized that she’d seen the stupid message on his phone, and he felt his heartrate pick up again. He was doing a lot of panicking. “No, no, no, of course. Me either, I would never-” That wasn’t better, “Not that I wouldn’t sleep with you, of course I would. Anyone would.” No that was bad, “You know, you’re gorgeous, I mean-” Shit, it was like he’d never talked to a girl before, “It’s just, you know, I wouldn’t expect it or anything. We just met.” His face felt hot, he’d totally botched that.

He’d never been so happy to arrive in station in his life. Eve said she’d let him lead the way, so he did, and he took the opportunity to catch his breath and get his wits about him. He was bad enough with words under normal circumstances, but this was ridiculous. After a minute of walking, he slowed to Eve’s side and shot her a smile, “Sorry. I’ve never been great with words, and I guess I’m a little nervous.” He shrugged, as if that was the most logical way to end that thought.

It hit him when he looked back at Eve that she wasn’t really dressed for this. Maybe this was a bad idea. Still, they wouldn’t have to go too far out to find a good spot for stargazing, and he realized they wouldn’t need perfect conditions to see them more clearly, so for a bit he focused on finding a good, clear spot. “Do you have any siblings?” He asked, trying to make some idle conversation as they walked, “I’ve just got my sister. You’ve heard of her: the cool twin.” He wanted to fill the silence, but he also liked hearing Evelina speak. He found something about her so charming, but he wouldn’t have been able to explain it if he tried.

It wasn’t too much longer before he found a decent spot, and he took off his jacket and set it on the ground- in case the grass was wet- before gesturing for Eve to sit on it. He sat in the grass, himself, (it was a little wet) and leaned back, using his hands to prop him up. He looked up into the stars for a moment before turning to look at Evelina, and decided to give her a moment to just look before pointing anything out. When he did, he reached out to gesture, “You see that star? It’s okay if you don’t, it’s not the brightest,” He leaned in close, as if imparting some big secret, “That’s polaris, the north star.” He traced along the stars nearest to it, “It’s part of ursa minor, and just above it is ursa major, which is actually probably easier to see. They’re always visible, which makes them reliably easy to find.” He scooted his free hand behind Eve, so he could more easily lean in to talk to her while he pointed out the constellations and major stars he could find. “Let me see if I can find any of the seasonal ones.”

The air wasn’t too cold for Eve, she was used to the cold, often having her heat on a lower setting in the winter so she could say money on utilities. “It’s fine. You’re not going off on some prepared script, you’re being yourself. It’s nice.” Evelina said, trying to reassure Jeff. And she wasn;t lying. She despised guys who came up with a whole schitch about her being an alt girl and dyed hair with them acting super tough and manly. It put her off dating for a while, but with Jeff it felt natural and not like he was trying to be someone he wasn’t

Eve sighed a bit when he asked her if she had any siblings. “Yeah, two brothers, older. But they live with my parents and run the family business with them. I was supposed to too,” Eve paused for a second, laughing quietly to herself as she said tutu, “Oh, but I wanted space so I moved out. Little bit of freedom at the cost of, well, rent.” She missed her family a bit and would visit often, but genuinely enjoyed living on her own, her only issue being able to afford food and rent, even with two jobs.

Evelina almost tripped over Jeffrey as he stopped and took off her jacket. She was about to ask what was going on when she realized he was laying down his jacket for her. “Oh, thanks.” She said with a smile as she slowly sat down on the jacket, legs crossed. Eve just looked up and stared at the sky, it was like something she’s only seen in movies and TV shows; bright moon, and many bright stars illuminating the night sky. She always thought it was played up for effects, but it looked just like it now in front of her eyes.

Eve was brought out of her focus of just staring when Jeff spoke up, pointing out the north star, but calling it something else. She also followed his finger and saw the ursa minor and ursa major. “Hmm. I thought the north star was part of the big dipper, where’s that at?” Evelina asked, but then blushing as Jeff told her the ursa major was the big dipper, and the ursa minor was the little dipper, feeling a little stupid. “Oh! Where's pisces? That’s my sign I think, March 10th.” She quickly asked.

After showing her more and more constellations, even pointing out a planet, Eve was really enjoying herself with Jeff. Her head was resting on his shoulder as the two of them were staring upward both laying down completely, Eve’s back still on his jacket that was acting as a blanket. She turned her slightly and faced Jeff for a moment, thinking of something that was probably stupid, but she didn’t really care, this whole thing probably seemed stupid. “Hey Jeff?” Evelina said in a light whisper to get his attention to turn towards her. When he turned his head, she paused for a moment and then leaned in and kissed him on the lips, just for a second before pulling back. “Was that okay?” She asked, but then went in again kissing a bit more deeply this time.

When Eve asked about the big dipper, Jeffrey smiled softly. “Well, ursa major is the big dipper.” He spoke gently, not wanting to embarrass Evelina for not knowing something. “The north star is part of ursa minor- the little dipper- but ur- the big dipper’s stars are brighter, so it’s easier to find, and it’s kind of, uh, a landmark for finding the north star.” Eve quickly changed topics to ask about Pisces, and Jeff slightly grimaced, ”It’s kind of late in the season to see it. It might not be visible tonight.” He still looked, though, because there was a chance it would be visible, though he doubted even his own ability to find it.

Eve was in luck, though, because Jeff was able to find (most) of Pisces, dim as the stars were. There were several other constellations still visible, and Jeff pointed out as many as he could, and they were just able to catch Venus before it set, too.

It was probably the most relaxed first-date experience he’d ever had; laying in the grass stargazing, some casual cuddling going on. It was nice, and a nice change from all the awkward fumbling he’d done earlier in the evening. He didn’t know what he was expecting when Evelina said his name, but a kiss certainly wasn’t it. He smiled when she checked if that was okay. ”Yeah,” He said, voice barely above a whisper. Then their lips were together again, and Jeffrey had no complaints.

The kissing was slow, explorative. It was like getting to know someone, in a way. At first, he wasn’t entirely sure what to do with his hands. What would she be okay with? He let them explore a little- nothing too risque- hands on her waist, the small of her back, settled on her ass for a minute. He’d spent enough time staring at it earlier, may as well cop a feel while he had a chance.

It wasn’t long before they were both pulling away, ”It’s starting to get late, we should probably get back.” Jeffrey stood up and offered a hand to Eve to help her up. He grabbed his jacket off the ground and shook it out before draping it over Evelina’s shoulders.

The walk back to the station felt longer than the walk from it, but Jeffrey chalked it up to the hour. It was late, they were getting tired.

As they’d agreed earlier, Jeffrey bought the return tickets, and before long they were settled on the subway train. One minute, Jeffrey was smiling at Eve, saying something about how he was glad they’d decided to come out and see the stars, and the next she’d fallen asleep on his shoulder. He didn’t want to be that creepy guy that stares at you while you sleep, but she was pretty cute.

By the time Evelina woke up, they’d missed her stop. Jeffrey understood the frustration there, and it was late, and he figured she wouldn’t want to walk alone late at night. ”I could walk you home,” He cleared his throat, ”That is, if you don’t mind. You know, it’s just getting late, and you know how it can be in the city at night and-” He made himself stop, ”And I think I’d feel better about it, you know, if I knew for sure you made it okay.”

Eve wasn’t shy to kissing, having a few hookups here and there but most of them not really leading anywhere as most guys just wanted to bang the ‘alternative chick.’ But kissing Jeffrey was something else. It wasn’t just a guy trying to force his tongue down her throat, there was care and passion with his lips and tongue. Eve kept one of her hands on Jeff’s cheek and lightly played with his hair as they continue to kiss, she got a little red and tense as she felt his hand exploring her, she really didn’t expect him to do anything with how awkward her was before, but she would be lying if she said she didn’t like it.

And quickly their make out session ended as they pulled back slowly, Evelina with a gentle smile on her face. While she would have rather stayed under the stars all night with Jeff, she understood the worry to get back home. She nodded and rolled off of Jeff and took his hand to help herself up. She said a quiet thank you as Jeff draped his jacket over her and the two of them began to walk back to the station, Eve staying close and leaning against Jeff during the walk.

The train was mostly empty so the two of them took a seat towards the back and began to chat a little bit before Eve fell asleep with her head on Jeff’s shoulder. She wasn’t sure if she was just exhausted from the long day, or if she just felt comfortable and relaxed with Jeff, probably both to be honest. When Evelina slowly opened her eyes and asked where they were, she realised they missed her stop. Ugh, I didn’t tell him what my stop was, of course we missed it. She thought to herself as she sighed. “Crap. My stop was Harbinson.” She said as she pulled her head off of Jeff’s shoulder. “Sorry for falling asleep.” She apologized to him, feeling a bit bad.

When Jeff offered to walk Evelina back to her place, she wanted to shut down that idea quickly. Not because she didn’t trust him, she did, but because she was worried he would judge her because of where she lived. Even working two jobs, she struggled to find a cheap place to rent, and the complex she was living at now was pretty torn down and ghetto. But when Jeff spoke about it would make him feel better, she nodded her head and said okay. As the train came to the next stop, Eve stood up slowly and stretched a bit from her nap and got off the train, heading in the direction of her apartment complex.

The walk was nice, Evelina and Jeff smiling and laughing most of the way. They were about fifteen minutes away when Eve looked up for a second and saw an apartment complex to their right and stopped abruptly. “Uh, this is me.” She said, telling Jeff this was her apartments. Just a small white lie to carry for now. She felt a bit bad for lying to Jeffrey, but that was a problem for a later time. “I had a great time Jeff. I-“ She paused for a second, glancing down at her feet and back up to Jeff. “I hope do something like this again.” Eve said with a smile, giving him a kiss on the cheek. She turned around and headed up the stairs and quickly going into the lobby of the apartment complex, but then going through a back door and quickly heading back to her place.

It didn’t take long for Evelina to get back to her place, locking the the deadbolt and two new door locks she recently had installed after a break in the previous week. As she put her keys down am she realized she still had Jeffrey’s jacket on. “Oops.” She said out loud, quickly taking out her phone and sending a cute selfie of herself in his jacket to Jeff

Jeff didn’t mind that Evelina had fallen asleep on him. Truthfully, it was cute, so he just shrugged when she apologized, as if that would say, ”No, it’s no big deal. You’re really cute when you sleep. You hardly even drooled on me,” without having to use as many words.

Jeffrey had been a bit worried that Eve wouldn’t let him walk her home, but he was relieved when she accepted the offer. There was something, in the back of his mind, that knew he’d feel guilty if he let her walk alone and something happened.

The walk was filled with inconsequential smalltalk, jokes, and a healthy amount of laughter. Jeff was very obviously a lot more comfortable now, though that didn’t mean he wasn’t still awkward, or that he was somehow less clumsy with his words. He hoped Eve didn’t mind it too much- she had said she didn’t, but he’d met plenty of people who said they didn’t mind his awkwardness just to be polite.

Eve announced that they’d made it to her complex, and there was a part of Jeff that felt sad that the night was going to end. But Eve said she’d had a great time, and Jeffrey grinned, ”Yeah, me too,” Eve kissed his cheek before he could sputter out any awkward nonsense and, despite how they’d kissed earlier in the evening, Jeffrey felt heat creep across his cheeks. He was happy that, between the dark and his complexion, Eve wouldn’t be able to see the blush that made a home on his face. His mother had told him once that affection grows from little gestures, and maybe that was true. As Eve headed up the stairs and into the complex, he called out, ”I’ll text you later?” It was half a question- is it okay if I text you?- and half a statement, and the moment it left his lips he regretted it, so he quickly followed it with, ”Goodnight!”

He stayed rooted in place until he was sure that Eve was safely inside, and then began his own journey home. He was dead tired, and after walking for a few minutes, decided that calling a car was his best bet. He got the text from Eve on the way. He hadn’t thought to ask for his jacket back when they got to Eve’s apartment building. Would that have been rude?

He went into his contacts and changed her contact name to, well, her name, and added the selfie in as her picture, so her face would be at the top of the screen when he texted her. Only then did he text back.

xxEvelina
No worries. It looks better on you anyway. :)

As he got back to his apartment, Anne was asleep on the couch, with some sort of reality show playing in the background. Jeff decided to be quiet and leave her alone. She might be mad that he didn’t wake her so she could sleep in her bed, but she’d probably be angrier if he woke her up. Honestly, he never knew what to expect from her. So he went to bed, and absently wondered when he’d get to see Eve again. He already couldn’t wait.

Over the past week and couple days Evelina enjoyed the text conversations with Jeffrey. The two of them seemed to have good chemistry with each other even though they seemed vastly different from one another. She was cautious about what she told him, not wanting to scare him off or say anything that would make him judge her; any questions about her family she would either answer vaguely or quickly dismiss and change the subject. Eve wanted to hang out with him more, but felt bad because she rarely had time to with how much she was trying to work between both of her jobs and the little free time she did have, stuff kept coming up with her family.

One of Eve’s favorite bands, Beautiful Strangers, was playing at a small venue over the next weekend, and with her job at ALLternative Sounds she was able to get the tickets super cheap. On an impulse, she bought two tickets, kind of hoping she would be able to convince Jeff to possibly come with her. She knew it wasn’t his normal preference for music, but she hoped he would have a good time with something she enjoyed since he took the time to take her stargazing on the outskirts of the city. After buying the tickets she pulled out her phone and texted Jeff.

hey!! do u think u can stop by my work at round 12??? i have a small break and wanna talk bout sumthing. plzzzz

Evelina quickly sent the text and got back to work at the record store. She wanted to take the whole day off, but barely had enough hours after taking off the night shift at Target. Eve had talked to her manager about getting off a bit earlier so she could head home and get ready before the concert. While ringing up a customer her phone buzzed and she shit a quick glance of it next to the register, seeing the reply from Jeff and giving a light smile before handing the customer back their merch.

It seemed like Jeff was right on time when Eve heard the bell on the door ring and looked up to see him. "Chris, I’m taking my break now.” She called out as she walked around the customer and gave Jeff a hug. She pointed her head in the direction of a door for him to follow her and went into one of the back rooms to talk to him. ”Hey! thanks for coming down, good to see you again.” Evelina said with a smile. “So…” Eve paused for a second as she dug the two tickets out of her shirt. “I got two tickets to a concert tonight, was wondering if you’d like to come with me?” She asked before speaking again. “You don’t have to if you’re busy, I know it’s a bit last minute. It’s at 7:30.” Eve reassured Jeff, not wanting to feel like she would be forcing him to go if he didn’t want to.

After their date, Jeff’s life settled back into his normal routine. Anne had pestered him for details, and he was honestly a little surprised when she seemed to approve of the date. It was “very sweet,” but still “not her style.” She very quickly got Jeffrey to let her see the picture Eve had sent him, and though he declined her offer to help cyber-stalk her, Jeff was pretty sure Anne did it anyway.

They texted a lot; Jeffrey wanted to get to know Evelina, but she danced around some subjects. It was fine, really, she didn’t know him very well. He just assumed she had an embarrassing family or something. The beginning of a relationship was really tricky to navigate, and he liked Eve a lot, he hoped it would work out, so he didn’t push. He was starting to think he may have blown it, though. Evelina seemed really busy, and Jeffrey was willing to accept that she was too busy to spend more time together, but something in the back of his mind worried that it was an excuse not to see him again. What if she didn’t really like him, after all, but was too scared to tell him?

He was in the middle of studying when his phone went off, and he took a few minutes before checking the message. When he did, he couldn’t help but smile, and quickly shot a text back.

Evelina
Sure! I’ll see you then. :)

He had a little time before then, so he finished up the section he was studying, but he didn’t want to risk being late, so he left way sooner than he had to. It was fine, it gave him some time to grab a bite to eat on the way. He wound up getting to the building right on time, and gave a small smile when Evelina looked up at him. Butterflies took flight in his stomach when she walked over and hugged him, and he happily returned the hug. He followed her into the back room, absently looking around when they were back there. It felt forbidden, being in the back room of a store. It was also much smaller than he’d imagined.

Jeffrey couldn’t help but grin when Eve said it was good to see him again, “Yeah,” Was all he really managed to say, but before long Eve was talking again, so he didn’t really have time to dwell on how he should have said he was glad to see her, too, or that she looked really nice, or that her smile was the sweetest thing he’d seen all week. Anything he’d said probably would have sounded cheesy or awkward from him, anyway.

When Eve took out the concert tickets, and asked him to come to a concert with her, Jeffrey didn’t know what to say. He didn’t really like concerts that much, but she obviously did. “Umm,” But then she quickly reassured him, saying she understood if he was busy, and suddenly the idea of not going no longer felt like an option. “No,” He said, a little too hastily, maybe too harsh. Gentler, this time, “No, I-I’d love to come. With you.” He visibly cringed, that came out wrong, “The… The concert. I’d like to go to the concert.” He was making it worse. “Sounds fun.”

Evelina was a bit surprised with the sharp ‘no’ that Jeff had said, startling her a bit at first. At first she assumed he was saying no to coming to the concert with her. She was a bit disappointed, but did understand, she was going to go regardless if it was with someone or not. But when Jeffrey spoke again, saying he would like to come to the concert, of course in a cute and awkward way, she was excited. “Really Jeff?” She questioned at first, but when he assured that he would go and it sounded fun, she wrapped her arms around him in excitement. “Oh my god. Thank you. You’ll enjoy yourself, I promise.”

As she let go of Jeff from her hugging him again, they must have taken a few steps back because when Eve let go, she stumbled into one of the tables and lost her balance. After knocking a few things off the table Jeff luckily caught her, making her giggle a bit in his arms. “Hey Jeffrey…” She started to say, looking up at him for a second. “Might want to watch where your hands are going.” She said giggling again at Jeff being cute and awkward as he helped her up while he apologized and she adjusted her coveralls and fixed her hair a bit. “It’s fine. Anyways. Break is almost up and I still gotta eat something I head back to the front.” Evelina brought up, she rather just continue hanging out with Jeff, but knew she had to get back to work.

“Yo Eve, I don’t want to know what you two were doing back there, but you better have kept it clean.” Chris, Eve’s manager said as they walked by. “Shut up, we were just talking.” “Sure, and thats why your hair is messy.” He said before walking into his office. Eve walked Jeff back to the front of the store and handed him his ticket for the concert, ignoring Chris last comment. “Let’s meet up at like seven in front of the venue. Oh, and eat beforehand.” She said before getting on her tiptoes and kissing Jeff. She smiled before turning around and heading back to the break room to eat a granola bar, excited and anxious for later tonight. Eve just hoped Jeff would enjoy himself, but she had a plan to make sure he did.

Jeff smiled as Evelina hugged him, promising he’d have fun. Honestly, he wasn’t sure he cared about how fun it was- a chance to spend time with Eve wasn’t something he wanted to turn down. Besides, seeing the things she enjoyed and was interested in would be a good way to get to know her better.

As Eve broke the hug and took a step back, she bumped into the table and stumbled. Jeffrey instinctively rushed to catch her, wanting to at least keep her from getting hurt. Luckily, it only took him a few steps to get around the edge of the very table that had tripped her up. He could feel the heat rising in his face when Eve told him to watch where his hands were going. He’d wrapped an arm around her to brace her and keep her from falling, and his hand on her chest certainly hadn’t been the intended goal- he was fairly sure she was mostly teasing him, but found himself saying, “I am so sorry,” Even as he helped steady her, “I didn’t mean- I wouldn’t just-” He reminded himself that he sometimes needed to say less when Eve just brushed it off with a comment about how her break was almost over. “Oh,” He hadn’t meant to sound as disappointed as he did; he was going to see her again later, after all. But every moment with Eve felt exciting and new, and it wasn’t something he was eager to give up.

But he understood, so he quickly added, “Of course.” And followed her back towards the front of the building. Chris (who Jeff didn’t know, but he could discern that the guy also worked here) gave Eve a hard time as they came back into the front of the building, and Jeff found himself awkwardly glancing between the two of them until Chris disappeared into another room. Jeff had to wonder what kind of stuff Chris must do in the back rooms of this place to immediately assume that’s what everyone else would do.

Then Eve handed him his ticket, and told him they’d meet there. That made sense. He nodded, and then Eve kissed him. He didn’t know why, but that was the last thing he would’ve expected. As if the fact that they’d kissed already had been wiped from his mind. He smiled, and almost forgot to kiss her back. He said, “I’ll see you later.” Before she turned to go to her lunch, and he left to go home until the concert.

Anne was very excited that Jeffrey hadn’t scared Evelina off. Apparently she’d kept tabs on his dating life since she moved in, which was weird, but she claimed she had a bet running with Jeff’s last roommate. He wasn’t sure if that made it weirder or more understandable, but he decided not to think about it too hard. He was worried about being late after he’d made Eve wait around before their last date, so he made sure to show up to the venue a little early this time, and picked a little spot just out of the way where he could wait.

The rest of Eve’s shift was a bit hectic, a little bit because of it being the weekend and that's when they had their most business, but mostly because her mind was distracted about her plans tonight. She was usually always excited to go to concerts and music gigs, but not only was this Beautiful Strangers coming back for a homecoming show and she would be spending more time with Jeffrey. She was only concerned with the possibility that he wouldn’t enjoy himself since it didn’t seem like his type of thing or music, though Beautiful Strangers did have some more mainstream hits that he would probably enjoy.

Evelina left work a little early, already clearing it with Chris about her plans tonight of going to the concert and saying she’d make up the lost hours next week. She rushed home and tossed her phone on her bed after selecting a Beautiful Strangers playlist to get her ready for tonight, music playing while she started getting ready for the concert. It took her a bit to figure out what to wear, she wasn’t one of the type of people to wear a band’s merch to a concert, but she knew generally what she was gonna wear. While Eve didn’t make much and didn’t buy her clothes from high-end stores, but rather just discount stores and other places to get some cheap, she was still able to make outfits come together nicely. And when it came to alternative fashion, it wasn’t much about the brands but more so the look.

After finally pulling up her skirt over her fishnets she sat down on the edge of her bed and put a couple more tears and rips in the tights, adding more of the distressed look to them before standing up and throwing on her crop top and oversized button up. She did a little spin in the mirror feeling good about the current outfit and making her decision to go with it.
Eve went back to getting ready, slipping on a choker and then cleaning off her face from the make-up she had on at work and applying a new layer. She also decided to draw one of the band’s logos on her cheek; a heart with a no sign over it and the band’s name on a scroll. Eve had drawn on her face many times for other concerts, so she was able to do this pretty easily without messing up.

Eve got a bit distracted and realised she might be late if she didn’t hurry up and head out. She did one last check in the mirror before grabbing her phone and heading out the door, cutting off the music so it wouldn’t be blaring in the hallways of her apartment or on the side of the street as she headed to the venue. A bit more of a bounce could be seen in her step as she walked down the street, grabbing a small wrap to eat on her way so she wouldn’t be starving when she got there. It would be a little ironic if after telling Jeff to eat, that she didn’t. But she knew she had to have some sort of food in her system for the night, since she did plan on having at least some alcohol.

It didn’t take Eve long to get to the location, and quickly saw Jeff sitting off to the side. “Jeffrey!” She shouted as she waved and headed towards him, giving him a hug after he stood up. “Thank you for coming!” She blushed a bit as he replied, commenting on how she looked. She grabbed his hand and led him towards the entrance for them to stand in line. It would still be a bit before doors opened, but it was good to get in line early, plus it was always fun to people watch.

When the doors opened and the security started to let people in, the two of them didn’t head to the stage yet, since they had their seats reserved. Eve usually got pit tickets, but wasn’t sure if Jeff would have enjoyed that, plus seat tickets were significantly cheaper for a pair. Though the seats they had were still pretty close to the front and usually for media, which her connection to ALLternative Sounds was considered. “Hey, I think we should get some drinks first, if that’s cool right you, and I’m not talking soda.” Evelina said with a smile and a wink to Jeff as they got in line.

Eve knew they would ID her so she knew Jeff would have to pay for them, but felt bad and awkward asking him to, but then she had an idea pop into her head. “Hey Jeff?” She started, before handing him some cash. “I gotta head to the restroom real quick and freshen up, I’ll be right back.” Eve said with a kiss on the cheek and ducking under the rope that connected the stanchions, and heading into the bathroom. After going to the bathroom, Eve adjusted her hair and made sure she still looked good, she headed out and met up with Jeff, taking the drink he held out for her. “Thanks. Wanna go look at some merch before we take our seats?” She asked as the two of them walked over the merch booth.

“Oh I’m glad she liked the gift! Honestly, I wasn't sure if she would like them or not.” Eve let out a shrug as the two of them arrived at the merch table, and both getting distracted about what to get. She just settled on a new beanie with their band name on the front and logo on the back when Jeff asked her for something, and then spun his hand around. Evelina was a bit confused and just spun around and felt him holding something up to her and mumbling to herself. “Yeah I get it, I’m short.” She joked as they both got to the cashier.

Eve was reluctant when Jeff offered to buy her the beanie, once again not feeling good about him paying for her stuff again. “Fine.” She placed the beanie in his hand and waited next to him as the cashier rang everything up and gave them the stuff back in the bag. She quickly drank the rest of the cheap beer the venue was selling, and held Jeff’s for him while he put his wallet away.

“Lemme.” She said quickly as she stuck her hand in the bag and pulled out the beanie and put it on her head. “Looks good?” She asked, and then blushing when he replied. She watched him finish his drink and took his cup for him and threw it away. “Another?” She said with a wink as the two of them headed back over to the drink stand and got two more drinks, the guy pouring them recognized Jeff and didn’t ID him this time, not giving enough care to ask someone for their ID again. They heard the last few mic checks and Eve looked over at Jeff. “Oh, lets get going!” She grabbed his hand and led them through the venue.

It didn’t take them long to get to where their tickets said they would be, and quickly got situated. “Hey Jeff?” Eve paused, looking at Jeff. “Thanks.” She gave him a kiss, and shortly after the lights on stage came on and Beautiful Strangers took to stage.

Throughout the setlist Evelina was singing along to every song and lyric. She tried getting Jeff to sing along, but he didn't know all the lyrics and kept messing them up. Eve found it cute and kept re-assuring him that it was fine, even though it made her smile and laugh every time. The two of them got a few more drinks over the night and this just continued them enjoying each other’s company, dancing around each other during the upbeat songs, and Eve hugging and swaying with Jeff during the slower ones.

Evelina busted through one of the side doors of the venue laughing and skipping the two steps that led to the sidewalk. “Jeffrey. That was awesome. I hope you had as much fun as I did.” She said with a bright smile on her face, and hugging him. He started talking but she raised a finger to his lips. “Shh…” She said quietly and grabbed his hand, leading him around the side of the building. As soon as they were out of sight, for the most part, she wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him. The addition of the alcohol in her system made her a bit more flirty and touchy. She gasped a bit when Jeff seemed to lift her up a bit with his hands under her butt as they continued to make out.

“Jeff...” Eve pulled back for a second. “Can we go back to your place?” She said quietly and slowly, giving him another kiss on the neck.
