a character in “Searching for Refuge”, as played by InsaenImagination

Description

Name: Luka Perry

Age: 23

Gender: Male

Looks: Luka doesn't try. At all. He wears whatever's clean and when he gets out of the shower he doesn't do anything with his hair, or...anything. But people have to admit, the "I-don't-care" look, works for him. He has scraggly black hair that goes just past his ears. He has stunning emerald eyes and a million dollar smile. As of now he has stubble on his face, making the "I-don't-care" look sturdier. He has a good build, wanting to keep healthy. He is 6"3' and somewhat intimidating to people who don't know him.

Personality: Luka is very anti-sociable. He can hold his own in a conversation, but he'd rather not talk at all. It was just how he grew up. And after his parents deaths, he just kept going into himself, almost becoming a mute. At times, though, Luka just calls out people on what they say, and creating an argument. He can't help it either. He's also a great actor. Due to books and other forms of entertainment he has this down to an almost art. He lies most of the time, and doesn't care about a lot of things.

Arrival: Luka was born and raised in Kyrzan. His parents moved there before having him.

Background: Since a child, Luka was never found without a book in hand. He loved reading. It was one of his only sources of entertainment. His parents were either to busy, to tired or just to lazy to actually bother "playing" with a child Luka. He didn't go out and talk to the people of his village and couldn't be bothered. Two years in the winter his parents died of unknown causes, either hypothermia or something else. He's not a doctor, he a reader...and a hopeful writer. And when this happened he couldn't handle the stress of winter and locked himself into his house. Luckily for him, his parents stashed lots of food into his cellar. His parents must have known something like this was going to happen. They also always did say, "Winter is coming..." He knows that he needs to go outside, just to face reality, but he's scared.

So begins...

Snow...the white beauty of nature. A lie, though. It's the ugly and cold death that is our destiny. We used to see it as good fun, but now...it is the embodiment of danger... Luka Perry thought as he looked outside of his wooden house. He could hear the fire cackling in the background. He sniffed and could smell the fresh, cold outside air mixing in with the must smell of his old books. He was almost out of wood again. It was going by faster and faster. The colder each day gets, the more wood is burned up.

He noticed someone from a distance coming out of another house. It was the woman that came about two weeks ago. Blonde hair, from what he could tell. She was staying with Jamie, someone Luka grew up with. He shook his head and walked back inside of his house to grab his axe. After doing that, he walked out into the snow, closing the door behind him. The snow was just higher than his knee. He trudged on, his boots barely protecting him from the snow. Snow...snow...

The woman fell in the snow. The glittering flakes falling around and on her. He looked up into the clouds, the snow stinging his uncovered face. It seemed they spread miles upon miles. Never ending. He continued on, but only stopping by the woman. He looked at her blue eyes. He held out a gloved hand, waiting for her to either accept his hand or brush him off.

After a brief moment in the snow and letting the flakes fall onto her face, Cassie noticed someone approaching. She looked up to see someone with shaggy black hair and green eyes peering down at her with an extended arm. She blinked a few times, studying his face as if it would jog her memory. She realized that she hadn't met him before, and reached her arm up to his with slight hesitation.

"I believe we haven't met. I'm Cassie." She said as she brushed some snow off of her. As if it would do her any good! She gripped the axe loosely in her hand, letting it lean against her side as minor balance. Cassie noticed the axe in his hands, and nodded nonchalantly at the axe before looking back up at his face. "Are you running low on firewood too? This weather is just unbearable!" She said as she reached up and tugged her hat closer to her ears. She was already shivering, which was expected since she was just laying in the snow. But the cold went farther then just lowering her body temperature. She could feel it in her bones, and in the slowed movement of her jaw and cheek muscles. She could feel her fingers start to sting from the cold, her gloves only keeping the frostbite from setting in.

She glanced around her, looking at the woods that were just behind Jamie's house, noticing how covered they were with snow. She remembered hearing about how all the smaller trees had been cut down already upon her arrival. Rolling her eyes she realized they had to cut down the larger trees, the ones covered in heavy amounts of snow. Can anything be easy, just once, can something be easy? She thought to herself as she turned back around to look up at Luka with a forced smile.

Blue eyes, glittering...full of life in a place which destroys. Cassie, I think you might be a saving grace... Luka thought to himself as he looked Cassie over. The axe in her hand, not even ready to defend herself. Starting in a soft voice, as if he hadn't spoken in years-which, really, isn't all the false-Luka said, "My name is Luka Perry. And yes, I was running low on firewood...still am..."

The smile he didn't like. It was to fake. That's why Luke barely ever smiled. Why do if things are bad? "Cassie...you shouldn't...keep you guard down. What if I had bad intentions? In this place, wood isn't all of what we need. Somebody could come along and kill you. Just for food..." And after realizing what Luka said, he tried to fix it, "S-sorry...I just finished reading a book loosely based around cannibalism...and I'm not used to talking..."

Luka looked into Cassie's eyes before abruptly turning and stalking off into the wood, his axe in both hands. The cold was getting to him. He clenched his hands around the axe handle to keep the blood flowing. Luka just ignored the feeling of desperation that was slowly beginning to build in the pit of his stomach. Luka had a goal he wanted to complete-had to complete. It was either that, or die. Now he felt bad, he could have walked with Cassie and helped her. Two people in the woods is better than one. But...but...to late. Luka stopped and thought, She could be following me...Probably not considering what I said...probably thinks I'm a freak... Luka Perry continued to keep staggering forward in the ever rising snow.

When Jamie woke up shivering he knew that the fire must have gone out again. A small groan left his throat as he rolled around in his best, wrapping himself further into the blankets on the large bed. This was the fourth night in a row that his fire had gone out. He'd tried to make this one last, but apparently he hadn't had any luck. Sighing, watching the cloud of hot air leaving his mouth, Jamie stared at the wall, shivering every few minutes as he waited for exhaustion to lull him back to sleep again. This was getting ridiculous. He'd used up almost all of their wood to make the fire tonight, and even that hadn't been enough. With that thought Jamie glared at the wall, annoyed. They'd have to go and get more wood tomorrow. Sighing once more he snuggled in closer to the blankets, awaiting for sleep to finally come.

Before long he could fall asleep, however, Jamie heard the tell tale signs of foot steps heading towards his room. Rolling his eyes and feigning sleep as to avoid unnecessary conversation Jamie waited for the warmth that would come with the second body lying down in his large bed. To this day he wasn't sure why he'd invited Cassie to stay with him; loneliness maybe?, but he'd grown used to having a housemate, enjoying the company as well as the inevitable warmth that came when Cassie grew too cold to stay in her own bed and made her way to his own, such as she was doing now.

A shiver ran up and down his spine as she pulled the covered up, and he allowed himself to be shoved further into the bed. He had to bite his tongue not to complain about now being in a cold spot on his bed, but that comment was withheld as he felt Cassie cuddle up to his back, warming him almost instantly. Cassie may have been a little clingy, but Jamie didn't mind as he closed his eyes, sleep coming much quicker than before.

Once more did Jamie awake to being cold, his teeth chattering as his housemate got up and left the bed. Wrapping himself in a cocoon of blankets, Jamie curled in on himself, hoping to get a little bit more sleep. When he heard his front door open, bang shut, then open once more, he knew that he should probably get up. Why was Cassie leaving, anyways? Groaning as he sat up, Jamie ran his hands through his messy brown locks, half growling at the cold that met his body as the blankets fell to his lap.

Climbing out of bed, Jamie quickly put on another two layers before limping towards his door, making his way towards the stairs. Staring down the stairwell, Jamie once again pondered why he didn't just simply sleep downstairs. It would make his life a tiny bit easier, what with his stupid leg and all. Putting those thoughts off to the side for later, the brunet grabbed onto the railing and slowly made his way down the stairs, cringing a bit as his chilled, stiff leg was forced down the stairs. After much effort he reached downstairs, looking around the house.

Blinking when he looked through the side window on the house, Jamie hobbled over to the window, bracing himself for the cold before throwing it open, wind caressing his face as some snow began to blow in. Looking around, Jamie grinned a bit when he saw Cassie, resting his arms on the window sill as he looked at the newcomer. "Fall in the snow again, newbie?" he teased, noticing the small amounts of snow on her jacket. When he noticed the axe near her, however, he blinked. "You going to get firewood?" he asked, honestly surprised.

Though, if she was, he wasn't going to complain. Getting firewood with his leg had been a hassle recently, the cold only making his old wound more agitated. Then again, it was below freezing and she must have been cold already. Looking past her, Jamie was able to see the large form of Luka not too far off, an axe in his hands as well. He nodded towards Luka. "Go with that tall thing. He'll be able to help you carry more wood on your way back," he said, not offering to help her in the slightest.

Cassie was taken aback by Luka's comment about not at the ready in defense. She didn't see it necessary to defend herself if he had trudged all the way over to her to help her up. But she did start questioning how she let it go so easily. It must have been all the time she spent with Jamie, where they grew comfortable around each other in the small amount of time she'd been in Kyrzan. I shouldn't have let my guard down when I came here! I'm too comfortable. She thought to herself, angry she had let it happen. When he started off on cannibalism, Cassie couldn't help but to grip the axe tighter, her nerves starting to tense. She watched him more carefully, trying to keep a calm face and not show her discomfort. But when he turned and started off into the woods, it threw her off even more. I really need to get out more, if I don't know how to react to anything! She let out another frustrated sigh. It's just not my kind of day, is it? She looked down at the snow and the axe that was next to her wishing she could melt it all with her gaze alone.

Stuck standing in waist-deep snow, Cassie was about to start after him when she heard Jamie call out the window at her. Not even turning, she lazily looked over her shoulder at her housemate. The two of them hadn't shared much history, but they knew enough about each other that they were indifferent about sharing space. The company was nice, she had to admit. But it was clearly causing her to let her guard down when she shouldn't! She glared at him with annoyance, but rolled her eyes at his comment of her falling in the snow. "Someone has to do it, and you sure as hell won't do it with your gimp of a leg!" She spat back at him with heavy sarcasm, a small grin stretching across her face showing that she was simply teasing him back like she normally did. As he ordered her to go with Luka, Cassie turned around to face him and the house, and picked up some snow molding it into a lazy ball. She chucked it at him, but the snowball hit the top glass of the window just above his head. Shaking her head at him, she turned back towards Luka.

"Luka! Wait up…" She struggled to shout after him as she tried to rush through the snow. One of the major downfalls of being short was that trying to maneuver through waist-deep snow was like trying to run in deep water. It was taking a ridiculous amount of energy for her to rush after him, and she wasn't getting as far as she wanted to at the rate she was going. Giving up on trying to catch up, she slowed down back into a pace that was just a little slower than a walk. Cassie let out a distressed breath before taking in a deeper lung full and stepping into the woods. Fortunately, the trees were holding a lot of snow, and the ground-depth was shallower than out in the open. The snow came up to her mid-thigh, which was a little bit better.

"But daad! Do I have to?" Karren moaned.
"I brought wood several times in a row already." her father replied. "It would be your turn sooner or later."
Karren was already freezing inside, let alone outside.

She didn't have any other choise, but to wrap herself in thick warm clothes, go out and struggle with the snow depth. She went outside, and even though she have done this many times before, she didn't feel like she got used to it. Only going trough the massive white piles of crystalized water was a challange enough, let alone coming back with the wood.

Karren could see two figures heading towards the woods. One of them was familiar to her - It was Luka. She knew him ever since early childhood, but didn't form a solid friendship with him yet. Maybe because she hasn't seen him often, or because he wasn't much into socializing. There was also a woman behind him. Karren has seen her once or twice, she remembered her as Jamie's housmate. She wasn't sure wether Cassie was his girlfriend, or just a friend.

"Hey..." Karren greeted Luka once she got closer to him. Soon she would probably greet Cassie too, as she wasn't very far away.

After what felt like climbing the tallest mountain in the deepest snow, Cassie made her way over to Luka. Another woman had approached by the time she made her way over, and Cassie didn't recognize who it was. She squinted, as if it was going to clarify whether she knew the dark-haired one. As she stood just a few feet away from the pair, she smiled a little at the new stranger. "I'm Cassie." She said, not stretching out her arm for a shake. This time she was more careful with her interactions, although the person that had told her she was quite careless about it seemed to be acquainted with the brunette in front of her.

"I live with Jamie, I don't think we've met." Cassie started, then noticed that the medium-height girl must be out for firewood as well. She looked over at Luka for a quick moment before looking back at Karren. She smiled politely, although she was shivering down to her core and wanted to get this firewood retrieval on the move. As much as she wanted to meet fellow villagers, since there weren't that many, she much rather wanted to do it from the confines of a warm space.

Just off to the distance behind Karren, Cassie watched lumps of snow fall from a tree. With a quick glance around at the falling snow, she noticed that there wasn't much wind and that something else must have caused the snow to fall so abruptly. She wouldn't have worried about it as much if it was just a few branches that lost snow because they couldn't support the weight. But this was different, since almost the entire tree was no longer covered in white, but rather the dark green branches were uncovered.

The memories of the day she had lost her brother flashed back to her, and worry crossed her face as she watched the ground near the snow-shaken tree. Hoping it was just a small animal that was searching for food, she turned her attention back to the pair.

Walking...always walking. Wading through the white snow that is now our home. Luka thought before turning to Karren. He said, "Hi..." And then Cassie came by, introducing herself to Karren.

But we have grown accustomed to our home. Just the daily administration of a chill going through our bones... Luka tensed when he saw snow fall off of a tree. No wind, so this must have been something from an animal or something of the like...or the trees were moving. Luka's face grew hard, his emerald eyes had an icy tint to them. His body language said that he was ready for anything. But what was there, he didn't know, Why now? Why did my wood have to be so low right now?

Luka wasn't being honest to himself as he gripped his axe wearily. He broke his routine. Make sure no one was out, then go. Maybe to get the early-bird deal? But those were excuses in this icy wasteland. There was no time for petty excuses. Luka started breathing faster, his desperation clawing at his throat. Why? Why?! WHY?! Why now? Please...go to a happy place... Luka screamed in his head.

And so, Luka went to a happy, albeit fake, place. His parents smiling at him, congratulating him. For a job well done. His parents weren't dead. The snow wasn't here. It was all good...his breathing started slowing. Green eyes, unshed tears threatening to fall from his face. Body shaking, not just because of the cold. Now, memories started swarming him. Before he could think, he shut himself down. Keeping silent, Luka changed places with a character in one of his many books. Standing straighter, he glared down at the snow, head tilted. Waiting...

The blonde housemate of Jamie introduced herself as Cassie.
"I'm Karren." the brunette replied. "Now, let's have an imaginary handshake." Karren said, since it was obvious that it was so cold, hands should be taken out only when they were needed for survival.

The woman stood in place when she heard the snow falling from a tree. Her heart skipped a beat, as she squeezed her axe. Not noticing the psychical affect this had on Luka and Cassie, she turned to the tree.
"Oh! I guess it wasn't Santa Claws." Karren said. This was her own way to say that nothing was about to eat them, at least not yet. "This one isn't that covered in snow. Dibs!" she simply said, not even questioning herself what caused it. She didn't see the snow fall, so she assumed that all the branches were covered to a point when they couldn't handle anything any more. She didn't feel traumatized, instead she started chopping the tree.
"So, Cassie..." Karren started while chopping. "What brought you in this lovely place? The endless amount of water flavoured ice cream?"

Noticing the tense state that Luka found himself in, and how Karren seemed to brush it off like it was nothing left Cassie in a frozen and confused state. However, when Karren asked her what brought her here, Cassie snapped out of the state for a brief moment. As she started to think about how to explain what brought her here, she froze up again and swallowed hard. Clearing her throat she watched as Karren chopped the tree.

The rhythm in her swings seemed to take her from her thoughts again before she realized she hadn't responded. Letting out a breath, she turned to find a tree nearby. "I'm from much farther north, so I'm sure it's quite self-explanatory." She spoke, keeping her reasoning as vague as possible. It wasn't necessary to explain how half of her family was dead, and she wasn't even sure of her father's current state. She started swinging her axe at the tree, staying close to the trunk as lumps of snow fell to the ground from the exteriors of the branches.

Knowing that obtaining firewood was going to be a days long task, she made sure to keep a slow pace as she swung the axe. Another rustle of branches made her stop swinging the axe and look in the direction from whence it came. She was tense once again, but this time she knew that something was either praying on them, or scoping out the area. Neither were a good sign. Gripping her axe tighter, she started off in the direction of the sounds.

Lyric headed into the woods. Trading through the mounds of snow. She hated leaving her house. There was more out here than cold weather and snowdrifts. This was a fact she new all too well. Out here she was open, unprotected by her walls and locked doors. A shiver ran down her spine, one not cause by the frigid air. She shook her long blonde hair. "Stop being a scared cat." She thought to herself as she continues her path threw the snow mounds. She let out a sigh. The air turning smokey grey and coiling around her mouth. She used to like this effect winter had on her hot breathe. She would stand out side and huff pretending the smoke had slide past a dragons fierce teeth. A soft smile tugged at her lips. As she recalled tromping threw the snow and pretending to fly and breathe fire. The smile quickly faded. There as no time for such silly games anymore. All there was here was cold. Cold air cold snow, and cold people.

People were not to be trusted. They could turn on you and kill you while you slept. She saw someone slay her parents for no apparent reason. Now everyone around her had a reason to kill. They very thought of how desperate people had gotten in the years prior scared her. Made her in to a hollow form of herself, scared of her own shadow. A noise snapped at her ears and she glanced up from the glistening white ground. She could see three figures ahead of her. She took a few steps forward and squinted a bit to get a clearer look.
A soft sigh passed through her parted mouth. It was three of the villagers. She trusted the remaining villager, to an extent. But in all reality she had to. Lyric was alone and the sense that her neighbors could be counted all was all that she had. Even if it was not true.

Luka relaxed slightly, still wary of sounds and movement in the woods. He looked around and saw Cassie start to chop at a tree, and Karren chopping the one that snow fell off of. He focused his sights on a tree that wasn't to big and threw his axe at it. The axe went cartwheeling and it's handle hit the tree. The snow fell off of its branches. Luka clambered forwards and gripped his axe and started cutting away at the wood.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Cassie turn towards a space in the tree, as if she heard something. Luka thought, Never...ever, ever investigate when you hear something or think you saw something. That is Rule Number One of survival...Oh no...oh no... Luka kept on swing his axe, making sure the blade hit the right spot. He kept his eyes on Cassie though, making sure to be at the ready. Rule Number Two; Make sure you have a weapon. Rule Three- Luka heard a sound coming from his left...snow falling...he couldn't place the sound. "Always be cautious..." he whispered to himself as he backed up into the clearing.

"Karren...Cassie..." Luka said, louder, "Come back here, please. I don't trust these woods right now."

It was yet again morning, and time to start preparing to head out in some direction from his trench in the ground. It was still a bit dark out, but seemed to be lightening up as the Sun rose behind clouds. For some days now, a light snow persisted, and an inch of snow lay atop the branches that covered Adam's trench. The familiar cold hit his face, and he pulled his hat down again. All well until a small rumbling in his stomach hit him.

"Maybe I need to hunt again," Adam said to himself. "But I'll wait... I won't die yet from hunger."

Crawling out of his sleeping bag, he reached for his pack. Opening it, and right on top was some long nylon pants which he put over some warmer under-layers. Putting his boots on, he tucked his pants in at the knee, and slid some gloves on. Reaching back into his sleeping bag, he took out three one liter bottle which were two-thirds of the way full, having had melted snow over the night for something to drink during his trip. Kneeling over where he slept, Adam began packing his gear, strapping his sleeping bag on to his external frame backpack. A rifle and hatchet lay at the other end of the trench, the hatchet he put on a belt loop, the rifle he let sit there for the moment. Lastly, he took a plastic cover for his pack and slid that over his gear to protect it from the falling snow.

Pushing a branch off the trench, he opened his shelter to step foot into the snow, careful not to slip on the icy floor of his shelter. Outside was a toboggan frozen in the snow, and smooth snow across an open field and up to and through the treeline. He grabbed it; a loud crack could be heard as he broke the ice that trapped it with sheer force, and slid it towards the side of the shelter. Lying the twenty five foot rope on the bed of the toboggan, he began stacking the pieces of his roof onto it. He tied it up, securing the bundle to its frame. For a moment, he stepped back into where he dug out snow, and slung his pack over his shoulder. Clipping it to his waste, he then grabbed the rifle and put it on the back end of the toboggan. Standing in snow that covered halfway up thighs, he pushed his supplies and walked, as if he knew where he was going. Hopefully sweating wouldn't dampen and freeze the lower layers of his clothing.

It was some miles into his trek. It was lighter out, but still clouds floated overhead. Walking among trees, he hadn't seen much to eat, but it didn't seem like it was exactly lunch time, and he was getting tired. A small break wouldn't do him harm, but that's not what stopped him now. He could hear the hitting of axes against wood. His attention caught by it, he kept walking towards where he heard the noise. Finally, he saw people chopping wood.

"Karren...Cassie... Come back here, please. I don't trust these woods right now."

As the taller man in the group backed away, he realized how suspicious he had made himself look. But, he wouldn't care so much, as long as they didn't attack him.

"Well hello there!" Adam said warmly. "Seemed I got a little too close for comfort, trying to see everyone who was here. Sorry about that, it's not easy to be social with no one around."

When she heard the sound of something in the direction behind her, Cassie froze. Then Luka called out to them, but she clenched her jaw ignoring what he was asking. She'd been in situations worse, surrounded at all angles. Well, for all she knew, they were surrounded. She looked over her shoulder back at Karren and Luka, then out of the corner of her eye she saw another person who wasted no time in making his presence known. As he spoke Cassie watched carefully, but turned to look back in front of her only to find another person just off in the distance.

Did they know each other?! Were they together? Was this a trap? Cassie's mind raced, her grip on her axe causing her hands and wrists to cramp up a little. She clenched her jaw, ready to act if anything was about to start up. She swung her axe up over her shoulder, ready to swing as she kept an eye on both strangers on different sides of the trio. She stepped back towards Luka and Karren, remaining quiet. It was a little weird for her to have all of these people around at once, and this was more interaction than she had in weeks. It was a little overwhelming, causing her nerves to fire endless thoughts into her head. She imagined the worst and the best of this situation, and everything in between uncontrollably.

The cold didn't seem to be on her mind anymore, now that her adrenaline was kicking in she felt warmer than ever. She felt stronger than she had just not too long ago when she was mindlessly swinging her axe at the tree. She kept walking backwards, towards Karren and Luka, her vision switching between the two others. When she was close enough she looked over her shoulder once again to see the guy with something in tow. "Is this some sort of Holiday?" She muttered with heavy sarcasm, referring to how everyone seemed to be getting together at such an odd time. It was beyond her to fathom what was happening, and all she could do was take it in stride. She could only think back to her summer in the North, where there were people as far as the eye could see. She knew now that if she was back in the North during the mid-summer she wouldn't be mentally sane, to put it bluntly. She would be afraid to leave her cabin, and now she was questioning why she chose today of all days to leave the house.

Luka Perry was but a man without a goal. How could he have something so trivial in this world? Life as of now was all about survival. He never would give up. He couldn't. He would have broken a promise. "Hello..." Luka said warily, he then noticed the gun that was on the person who just appeared, "Ugh...I didn't need this..."

He turned around and saw another person come towards them. More people! If this kept on, he would have a panic attack. He wasn't use to these many people at once. Taking a big, calming breath full of clean air, he said, in a robotic voice, "Hello. Welcome to Kyrzan, where your dreams come true! As you can see there's snow, more snow. And look, even more snow. People are untrusting and will turn on you if they feel threatened. But through all that the main attraction is the forested areas. Where you will probably get mauled by wolves! Have a nice day!"

After a moment or two, Luka said in his soft voice, "I've always wanted to do that...But serious now. Are you looking for a place to stay or are you just passing through?"

Taking another deep breath, Luka thought, Ready to attack, Luka! Do not be distracted by his friendly demeanor...He has a gun too, dangerous... Luka was still in character. The sarcasm wasn't his usual, but...Luka didn't why he was trying so hard. In all honesty, he should've been dead. But somehow, he's survived. Luka wondered, once again, I wonder if I'd be better of dead...

Lyric trudged threw the snow. She hated walking through the snow she was to short for this. She always felt as though the looked like a fat penguin trying to gracefully walk through a mound of fresh fallen snow but horribly falling. She shook her head and glanced back at the group of villagers ahead of her.

Another one. Lyric looked on two girls and two boys. That would be the the rest of the villagers. But this was different she new the new person was not a villager. He did not limp like Jamie. Her heart pounded in her chest. Another new villager. She couldn't handle that. She nearly got used to the blonde who had moved in recently and by 'got used to' she nearly accepted the fact that the blonde woman was not going to kill them all while they slept.

She took a few steps back before tumbling in the snow. The cold seeped into her bones as she sat in the mound of glistening white but she couldn't leave. Her curiosity plagued her. She wanted to know what was going to happen.

Having left the window and closed it after Cassie had thrown snow at him, Jamie hobbled further into his house, making his way towards the kitchen. Looking around, he found his jacket resting on the back of a chair, his boots on the floor next to it and his scarf lying on the table. Slipping on his jacket, Jamie let out a small sigh of relief, enjoying the warmth that the extra layer brought him. It wasn't much, but at least he kept some of the cold out. Sitting down in the chair, Jamie easily tugged on one of the boots, but had a slight bit of trouble with the one on his wounded leg. He should have been used to it by now, but it still bothered him more often than not.

Jamie finished putting on his boots and soon wrapped half the scarf around his neck, the other half covering his face. He contemplated making some food for him and Cassie for when she returned, but he quickly scrapped that idea. Any food he prepared now would be unpleasantly cold without wood. Despite being a little hungry he'd have to wait until Cassie returned with some wood before he could make them anything to eat.

With that in mind he made his way back to the window he'd previous been standing by, frowning when he saw more figures standing around the woods. From where he was he could see at least three people but... they all seemed to be looking at something further into the woods. Not able to help but be worried and curious, Jamie grabbed his cane that rested near the front door, knowing he'd be needing the extra support out in the snow. Mentally preparing himself for the cold, Jamie threw open the door as he shivered against the rush of cold air, making his way outside before closing the door.

As he got closer, he was able to see two more figures further out into the woods, causing Jamie to blink. Did more people arrive much like Cassie had? He hoped not; they barely had enough food and wood for the few of them that were in the village as it was. He was still a little ways off, the high snow making him even slower than normal. The new comers didn't seem to be here to cause trouble, but Jamie was still on guard, unsure of just what they were about to get themselves into.

Just when everyone who was anyone seemed to be there, Cassie spotted Jamie headed their way. Great. This whole situation could easily turn deadly if even one person moved the wrong way. She was on edge, and her comfort with Karren and Luka started to dissipate. She stepped away from the pair, looking around, glancing at each individual for a second as she did so. But when things couldn't get any more… ridiculous, of course they did.

Cassie heard the sound of a low heavy growl from deeper in the woods behind her. She couldn't help but to jump at the sound that sent shivers down her spine. Spinning around, axe at the ready, her eyes went wide. A pack of wolves. Fan-fucking-tastic. "As much as conversation, and meeting new people is fun and all… minus the major trust problems everyone has, I think it's time to pick a side…" She muttered over her shoulder back at everyone.

A day of chopping wood, to heat the home as turned into a complete and utter disaster. Well, she didn't mind meeting new people. But the pack of wolves, that wasn't called for. She stared at them, remaining as still as she possibly could as she started to count how many there were. One, two, three, four, five, six… nine, ten, eleven. A rather large pack, especially for these conditions. Most packs had only two or three, since other pack members would be sacrifices for food. But this one, was abnormally large. They must have been surviving somewhere else if they are still so large. Maybe a larger village was nearby.

"Well I'll be damned." She whispered as she stood up straight, taking a slow step backwards. Her eyes locked on the wolf that stood in front of the rest, the alpha. As she had stepped back, the other had stepped forward. Cassie froze, swallowing hard as she took a sideways glance at everyone else.

Lyric leaned forward as the growl reached her ears. Then she saw them, the wolves emerging from the trees. "There are some many!" She cried under her breathe, the smoke rising from her lips. A pack this big had never wondered into the village, especially after winter began. Her heart froze in her chest as she watched the other villagers ahead of her. What were they going to do? Would they be okay? Then her eyes shifted to another figure walking towards them. It was a decent sized figure, probably male, and he walked with a limp.

Oh thank Goodness Lyric thought to herself as she stood back up, brushing the snow off her coat. Someone she recognized. Lyric slowly and cautiously made her way over to the figure until she got a clear picture of Jamie's face. She let out a sigh of relief. "There's a large pack of wolves ahead." She said softly. "...and a new guy." She added even quieter than before.

The wolves was actually a good sign. That meant their must be food near by, and their den couldn't be to far. And in their den their might be pups. She thought to herself but shook her head. A pet would be so nice because she wouldn't be alone then, however she could barely feed herself and going into a wolf den was suicide. Yet their was the chance of her getting a way with a pup, and maybe death would be a welcome relief. No. She thought to herself. I have to live, I promised Mama Ivy.

In this time...nature rules... Luka thought, And wolves are a part of nature. Now, wolves. Predators to small animals, when in a pack may attack bigger animals. If ever encountering any, try to make yourself bigger and make as much noise as you can... Luka calmly walked up beside Cassie to face the wolves. He puffed out his chest and yelled out, "GO AWAY!!! AHHHH!!!!!"

The smaller wolves scrambled away while the bigger ones just took a few steps back. The leader seemingly took this as a challenge. I see what's happening...I'm going to die! Luka thought as the wolf jumped at him, it's red/orange fur waving in the wind. You see, Luka could do a bunch of things. He could fall backwards into the snow, he could run, he could even dodge. But no. While acting, Luka has to take it to the base of the character. If the character is brave, then he seems brave. If a character is stupid, Luka seems stupid. But only seems. In reality, Luka does not care. He can be brash, he can be emotional. Hell, he can get angry. But most of the time...he does not care.

So, Luka lifted his axe up and swung at the wolf. Someone in the heavens must have taken a liking to Luka and didn't want him to die...yet. The sharp end of the axe hit the wolf and cut it deeply. After a few moments of bleeding out, the wolf finally died. Looking down in shock, he saw his gloves getting soaked in blood. He turned around and stated dragging his axe on the white snow. Blood was being trailed. After just walking, he came to see Jamie, "Oh. Hey, Jamie-" Luka passed out, crumpling to the ground.

Luka just beat nature. A wolf...make that multiple wolves. The ones that fled counted too.

Adam looked around to see that they were surrounded by wolves, and more from the village seemed to be attracted to the action. Not having his rifle loaded, the ammo being in the top of his pack so that if his rifle was stolen, it'd be useless, Adam pulled the hatchet from his belt. Unsheathing it, he ran towards Luka to help him as he was attacked, but his run was clumsy as it was slowed by the high snows. Passing a tree, a wolf lunged at him.

"Shit!" he yelled. "Ragh!" Swinging the hatchet into the side of the wolf's head, the wolf tackled him, but bounced off as it was killed against the blade. The animal dropped in the snow, painting it red with blood as he hurried as best he could. Looking back to Luka, he saw the stranger holding a wolf on the end of his axe. The more distrusting of them had collapsed and was unconscious, with the rest of the wolves running into the woods.

"Someone grab my sled, bring it over here!" Adam commanded, going towards Luka still. "C'mon, we can't let him freeze out here." It went from one emergency straight into the next. Finally getting to the man, he got onto his knees to check the his vitals, and it seemed the blood on him was not his.

"Someone help me pick him up," he directed openly. Perhaps this would be how he made friends, or enemies, with the villagers.

Lyric dropped know by Luka scooping her eyes where locked on the stranger. She didn't trust him but the stranger was right Luka would freeze if he laid here unconscious. She looked down at his gloves, soaked in blood. Carefully she lifted his glove a bit to check the skin underneath. There didn't seem to be any cuts or bit wounds. He was lucky standing up to that large pack of wolves was brave, but insane.

Her eyes trailed back to the stranger. He was shouting commands. She squinted her eyes deciding whether or not the stranger was a friend or foe. But this was no time for decisions. Luka needed help. She placed her hands under his head and lifted it out of the snow. "He shouldn't be alone tonight."she mumbled to the stranger in a barely audible tone.

She was unsure why luka had passed out but he should be monitered until he woke up. Lyric remembered her mother mentioned that before. He could have hit his head earlier or he could be getting sick. Most likely he fainted at the site of blood or the adrenlinw of that moment got to him. He might even be hurt and she just hadn't seen the wound.

The events that had happened after the wolves had arrived left Cassie standing frozen. She was completely aghast when Luka came next to her standing up to the pack. And then the alpha had lunged at him, and he swung at it without even a flinch. And now, he was collapsed in the snow unconscious. Adam had fought off a second wolf before running to Luka's aid, and all Cassie could do was stand there and watch. She could feel every bit of her body tingle with adrenaline, her body had geared up for what was coming, allowing her to be ready for anything. But instead, she was stuck there, frozen, like a deer in lights.

Her hand came up and touched her face, wiping a glob of blood that was under one of her eyes. She could feel the warm liquid on her lips and forehead. She was close enough in proximity that when Luka had swung the axe with the force he had, the blood sprayed out everywhere. Drops of blood were in the snow around the body of the wolf that rest just at her feet. She trembled a little, looking down in a heavy daze.

Her vision was replaced with images of her brother, dead at her feet in the snow. She blinked a few times and shook her head, and her brother disappeared, and the wolf was back at her feet. She turned back over her shoulder to see Adam and Lyric at Luka's aid. She knelt down, grabbing the wolf by its midsection and dragging the corpse over to the other one that Adam had killed. "Might as well have a feast tonight." She muttered in a low voice, the blood still smeared on her face and hair. She never expected a day of chopping wood to go like this, but then again, she never expected a winter so long to put her in such circumstances.
