The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 2 authors
He knew he would be soon in trouble. If someone wanted to see the wound in her shoulder...Raven gulped. He knew he had no way out of this. What could he say. It was an accident? It was too accurate shot to be accident. Self-defense? No one would believe that. The selkie looked far more weaker than she actually was.
He tried to keep calm and act reasonable but his nerves started to cracking. That damn woman did everything worse. If there hadn't been several people around them he would have punhced her. Was it even possible to act as stupid as that selkie! He was trying to get them both out of this situation. Then his suspicious nature came up again. Had that selkie acted all the time? Did she understand him after all? Did she wanted to get him into jail?
The policeman walked back. "How's things going in here?" he asked from the medic.
"What's that? It's not bandaged right like the ones you're doing now. I need to see it." Her voice told him she was not playing around any more, the crash may have been an accident, but this man was not innocent.
"Pain!" chimed the selkie happily, pointing to the shoulder, then her leg, then her head and burned back. The medic felt her agitation rise. The skin on the woman's upper back looked painful and swollen, a few blisters from the beginnings of second degree burn.
Spinning to face the policeman, the medic pointed at the pair. "She has a pre-existing wound on her shoulder that's poorly wrapped and her back has been burned. I still cannot approach her though, she seems wary of me."
Kneeling next to the woman the policeman smiled. "Can I see that?" he pointed the bandage and slowly reaching his hand towards it. He knew how to handle unstable people. He just need to stay calm. Gently he placed his hand on her shoulder and started opening it. Sawing what was beneath it he slowly rose up. "You're under arrest." he said to Raven and the other police now forced his hands behind his back. At next Raven felt handcuffs in his hands.
Staring at the selkie his voice got cold again. "You stupid woman. Thanks to you I'm dead." The police started instantly questioning Raven who refused to answer, staying silent, keeping his eyes in selkie.
About to bite at the man, the selkie hesitated, the strange new human kneeling beside her and speaking in a soft, calm voice. She was tense, but as he moved slowly and gently, she simply tilted her head at him in confusion. "Hhau?" she 'barked' softly, wondering why he suddenly seemed bothered. Even so, he stood slowly, making no threatening moves against her for which she was grateful. If only her human was this nice! She'd have been happy to show him her pelt and learn from him. The medic let out a sharp breath, appalled by the sight. It was definately a bullet wound, and to think this man would shoot at a woman who was clearly handicapped in some way and still being nice to him was unforgivable. She hoped he rotted in the prison cell.
The selkie's smile vanished as Raven was grabbed, the strange metal device now restraining him. Angry looks were being directed at him. Was this common for humans? She tried to approach, but the harsh, angry sounds were thrown at her once more by her human. Faltering, she whimpered, fresh tears in her eyes. Why was he angry at her? Why was he being mean? Which was the real human? "Hhauu kii.....?" she tried, stepping closer.
"No, it's ok sweetie, he can't hurt you any more." crooned the medic gently, taking slow steps towards the distressed female.
"Looks like you're coming to the hospital with us. You'll face a judge once you're fit to stand trial." said the policeman's partner after reciting off his rights. Lifting Raven up, he sighed in annoyance as he realized the suspect's leg was broken. "I'll accompany him on the ambulance sir. Should we escort the missus in the cruiser since she seems stable enough to make the ride?" he asked his partner, ready to put Raven on a guerney.
The selkie looked confused and scared, the other humans moving hers. He was so angry..and she didn't want to be hurt again. But still, he knew the way to her ocean home. Besides, she didn't know how to handle all these other humans, they seemed to be in a pod. She'd rather deal with one than have to defend herself against a group.
Pushing the man helping her human onto the guerney away, the selkie growled, standing in front of Raven.
"H-hauuu! Ourf!"
"Yes. I think it's better we escort." The policeman nodded. "I'll follow behind with her." He was already going to get her, when realizing she was now with the man.
Since Raven had been leaning towards the policeman, he almost fell when selkie pushed him away. Raven stared her. "What now?" he asked frustrated. The older policeman walked next to selkie placing his hand gently on her unwounded shoulder. "Miss, come with me." He spoke gently but determined voice trying to move her with his hand and get her follow him. "You'll see him later. Trust me." he smiled to her again, hoping to calm her down.
"Stockholm syndrome? But would that even mix with something like a feral child situation? Unless she is just handicapped and not a feral case..." mused the medic, her ideas jumbled as she tried to logically explain what she was seeing. She wondered if any of the doctors at the ER would know. She tried to get Raven onto a stretcher, but the girl snarled at the medic, warning her to stay back.
The kind voice of the other human diverted her attention, the seal girl looking at him with questioning eyes. Why was he letting them take away her human? She shook her head frantically. "Ouurfff, kii!" she cried, pointing towards Raven. She then yelped and cried out loudly, the medic and her team restraining the girl for the medic to administer a mild sedative.
"Hold her still! I'm sorry miss, but it's for your own safety!" tried the medic, making soft 'shhh'-ing sounds as she injected the selkie's arm.
"Kiiiii...!" she tried to struggle, but there were too many of them. With desperation, she bit down onto her pelt to try and hold onto it and keep it around her shoulders for dear life.
"Think that was the best call of action?" asked the other police officer, looking skeptical. As he spoke, the female began to feel heavy and spacy,
"He said you should let her keep that" he said to the medic nodding towards the seal skin. "Can you handle her yourself from now on? I can come with you if needed, but I should make a report of this."
The medic looked sadly at the drugged female, patting her shoulder gently. "Shh, it's ok, I promise, we won't hurt you, we just want you to calm down." she murmured gently, only to look up at the policeman's voice. The medic looked puzzled, but then shrugged, nodding. Well, what could it hurt? People did have attatchments to things, and perhaps it was special or a soothing item for her. "Allright. I'll take it from here officer, thank you for your help. Do you need updates on her progress at all?" she asked, accepting a sheet from her fellow paramedic, draping it over the girl and her pelt.
Raven gritted his teeth. There would be now way he would be able to get away with this. Laying down he closed his eyes. At least he could try to rest for now when the ambulance was heading towards hospital. The police officer next to him made him nervous but what could he do. He realized that his situation was bad. He hated her. He hated the selkie who had caused all this. She had been lucky that he had handcuffs when she come near to him. And that there was police officers. He wanted to punch her. If she ever saw that woman again he would kill her for all this.
A sudden sound startled him. It took him a while before realizing it was his phone. Who could call him? Besides it was his work pho-Work phone? Raven suddenly remembered the phone call he had gotten this morning. The reason why he was speeding. He gulped. He was sure he would lose his job. Especially now when the selkie had escaped from him as well. "Damn that woman!" he suddenly shouted in anger and frustration realizing she had literally ruined his life.
As she spoke with the policeman outside, said officer's partner frowned as he watched Raven's face contort into one of fury, even more disgusted at his words. It was hard to remain professional. "You are a piece of work mister. What kind of man picks on a handicapped woman like that?" he remarked, irked by the suspect strapped to the gurney. His wrists had at least been removed from behind his back, instead chained to the currently raised bars on each side of the stretcher bed. Had it been up to him, he'd have left him laying on his hands, let them go numb.
Moments later, the selkie girl was rolled onto the ambulance on the other side of the officer. She was curled up on the gurney, pelt hugged to her chest and over her shoulders and her body covered with a clean white sheet. She looked a little sleepy and sluggish, the tranquilizer still in effect.
"....Kiiii...."
"She's not handicapped. She's selkie and doesn't understand human language."
"Nice try buddy. You ain't the first to play crazy, you won't be the last. Besides, she looks human to me. Now stop trying to insult the poor woman and tell us the truth."
Said poor woman began to look around slowly, a flicker of recognition in her eyes as she spotted Raven from behind the officer. "H-hhau kii...." she mumbled, trying to reach a hand out towards him.
Raven glanced over to selkie, but since he couldn't move he couldn't avoid her touch either. "You probably saw how she tried to bite medics. She has bitten me too. She acts like animal, don't you think?"
Raven stayed quiet a while then looking at the officer again, lowering his voice. "I can tell you a secret. She's not the only one. Last night I saw a werewolf running in front of my car. Thank God I didn't hit it. I would be dead man by now."
"Look, I do think it's weird for her to be hugging a pelt around, and yeah, she acts eccentric. But she's not the first person to be either mentally challenged, deprived, or abused to the point where they don't interact with society normally. People do some unbelievable things, so yes, I can see how we could misjudge it as inhuman. But just because some people's minds can't be fathomed or interpreted doesn't mean their monsters."
"Kiii...Pain?"
"See? She is capable of speech, just sounds like she never learned how to properly. Now tell me her name, and we'll start from there."
"Also, I don't know her name. I tried to ask it but she doesn't understand me."
"Why'd you shoot her? IT looks recent, so when did you and for what reason? How'd she get that burn on her back?" asked the policeman, focusing on more pressing matters as they drove off.
"What are the marks on her wrists? Look suspiciously like someone struggling in our handcuffs. And what did she do to threaten you? Tell me what happened."
He looked at selkie. "After I shot her in panic, I took her with me. I tried to help her. I let her use the shower for example. Oh and now when I remembered that, it seemed she didn't know how to use that either. I had to teach her how shower works. Weird isn't it. To think someone hasn't even seen shower. Of course it's not so weird since she's selkie and has lived underwater. I doubt they have showers" Raven let out a little laugh.
He paused, glancing back at the girl clutching her pelt close to her body, nuzzling it. It made him smile. Sure, it was odd, but the position she was in and her tender hold of the item was almost exactly like his toddler son holding his blankie. It seemed like a comfort thing if he was to guess. The female looked innocent, and the officer once more looked back at Raven.
"So you're telling me you shot her because you thought she was going to hurt you. Then you tried to help the person you shot out of self defense??" he asked doubtfully.
He opened his mouth to ask some more questions, but they finally stopped, the ambulance doors opening up onto the loading bay of the ER. Time to help the medics and keep an eye on the suspect. He'd resume questioning later.
"Thank you officer. I trust everything was ok back there?" asked the first medic, her fellow paramedic getting up from his seat in the back by the selkie girl and wheeling out the gurney's.
"Yes ma'am. Pardon the inconvenience, but I need to keep an eye on him."
"Of course, he'll go in room five." she said, having called in as they arrived to make sure a room was availiable to keep Raven in. One near the security guards post so the police officer could rest if need be.
By now, the tranquilizer had begun to wear off, the dose a low one to begin with. The seal girl sat up on her gurney, pointing at Raven as they wheeled him out first. "Kiiiiiiiiii!" she cried, reaching for him with one hand. No! He was her ticket home!
Medic team continued to taking Raven inside towards the room that had reserved for him.
"Kiiiii! Hhau kiiii....pain?" she kept her pelt wrapped around her shoulders, clutched in her right hand as she grabbed her human's chained one with her left.
"Miss, you need to sit down, please, we wish to help you. He'll be ok if that's your concern..." tried the head medic from the ambulance, trying to be calm like the officer from before.
It didn't seem to be enough though, the girl shaking her head, keeping close to her confusing, scary human. "Oooouuurf!" she whined, looking at the hunter with watery eyes.
When selkie ran next to him grabbing his hand, Raven found out it was very hard to control himself anymore. He just wanted to get rid of the selkie. He looked at her trying to keep his voice friendly instead of threatening. "No. No pain." he said shaking his head hoping it would calm her down and get her stay away from him. Of course he was in pain: the deep cut in his head had started to bleed again and his leg was broken.
"Don't cry" he said when noticing the tears gathering in her eyes. "It'll be okay." he tried to convince her. At the same time he was repeating "Stay calm. Just stay calm" in his mind. "Go with her." Raven nodded towards the paramedic. "She takes care of you. No pain."
