Introduction
Certain things you have noticed very much suggest otherwise. Firstly there's the fact that others noticed your absence, but more worrying, something about you has... Changed.
Half of you are suddenly trying to understand the world through senses that are far, far too strong. You can smell other people's scents on the wind, people who are not even on your street. You can hear the laughter of children when you know none live anywhere near you. Certain surfaces are suddenly abhorrent to touch, it's hard to look directly at bright lights, and you're pretty sure being able to taste things in the air is not quite normal. Added to that, when you go to school that day, you realise that some unfamiliar instincts are raising their heads. Firstly, you've become strangely protective of your friends and family, temper fraying at even slight threats. Secondly, you've gained an urge to size up any strangers who talk to you, as if worried they'll want to fight you. Finally, you catch a scent in school, or hear a voice, or see a brief flash of a person, that there's some part of you that desperately wants to follow, to find the source and... And... You don't even know what you'd do if you found them.
You are Sentinels.
The other half of you have been trying desperately to swim through oceans of other people's emotions. Their pains, their joy, their sorrows and victories are all washing around and through you like riptides, pulling you in every direction until you don't know which way is up any more. Then there's the headaches, when it all gets too much, almost painful enough to knock you to your knees. But you know there's nothing physically wrong with you. The only anchor you have in the storm is a presence which... Calls to you, somehow. It's fixed when everything else is rolling chaotically, strong enough to focus on no matter where you are in town.
You are Guides.
You are Sentinels. You are Guides.
And you have no idea what's happened to you.
Rules
- The usual, no god moding, keep flame wars away from where everyone can see them, OOC and IC are seperate being, etc.
- This is a semi-literate roleplay, please watch your grammar and spelling.
- I'd prefer posts to be at least three good sized sentences long.
- Player knowledge is not automatically character knowledge.
- Agree things in the OOC if an action would have a lasting effect on any character but your own. If you want to kill another player's character, you agree on that before hand.
- Just because a Sentinel and Guide pair is set up does not automatically mean that it has to be romantic. They can be help each other and be perfectly platonic about it.
- I am putting up ten pairs of Sentinels and Guides, but this is very much a case of better safe than sorry. This roleplay will probably not get that many, but I'd prefer to be prepared in case it does. We could easily start with two pairs.
- Playing multiple characters is welcomed if you think you can handle it.
- You are free to play characters who are neither Sentinel nor Guide, friends, family and such.
- Sentinel and Guide pairs will be discussed and agreed on in the OOC. If it comes down to it, I'll have last say on it. When they're all agreed on, I'll rearrange the list at the bottom to reflect that.
Universe specific
- You don't really need even a passing knowledge of The Sentinel. This roleplay is not identical to the show anyway. If there's anything you don't understand, ask me in the OOC, I am completely willing to answer questions. However, I will explain some basics.
- There are Sentinels and Guides.
- Sentinels have super senses, however, these senses can also overwhelm them if there's to much input. This causes them to enter a semi-catatonic state, in which they can't properly focus and understand what their senses are telling them. Essentially, they are trapped in their own mind and need to be "guided" out, either by stimulus from a Guide or a jarring outside stimulus, such as a school bell. They also have a few instincts, the most prominent of which is called the "Blessed Protector" reflex, which makes them protective over their friends and family, and especially their Guide. The Blessed Protector Reflex can send them somewhat feral when under great stress. Lastly, they're naturally strong and agile, but not really to superhuman levels.
- Guides have empathic abilities, and are able to sense the emotional states and intentions of people around them, and can effect the moods of others to a degree. The downside is that they can be overwhelmed by a large amount of people feeling different things all the time, especially strong emotions. However, instead of entering the catatonic state of their Sentinel counterparts, Guides experience migraines and general confusion, as if they hadn't gotten enough sleep. They also have instincts, to reach out, sooth and aid people who are feeling extremely strong negative emotions, especially their Sentinel.
- Sentinels and Guides come in pairs, one Sentinel, one Guide.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 1 authors
"Bye mom!" Vivian called over her shoulder, as she hopped down the stairs. It was a sunny day in Widow's Hollow, lighting up the trees and plants in the neighbourhood yards and gardens to their brightest shades, and setting a smile on one blonde girl's face. Vivian had a bounce in her walk as she started walking to school, down familiar roads flanked by familiar houses with faded siding. She tossed some blonde corkscrews out of her face as she turned a corner further into the town, and noticed some other students. Nobody she knew personally, she knew after taking a good look at them. Unfortunately, she didn't turn back to her side of the street fast enough to avoid walking into a streetlight. As she did every Monday. All was well.
"Sorry." She muttered on reflex, as she sidestepped the pole and continued on her way.
Soon she was manoeuvring herself between a crowd of other kids who had decided to stop and talk at the foot of the front stairs to the school. Vivian ducked through the door and took a glance around. Students were milling around, talking, and generally being teenagers in high school. Yep, all normal.
"Just a day, just an ordinary day..." She sang under her breath, as she adjusted her backpack and started to make her way towards her locker.

All in favour of Raziela's suggestion say aye?
Re: Sentinel/Guide: The Forest Trail
Raziela wrote:Well, our characters all supposedly go to the same school, right? So could we possibly start with a sort of prequel, before we all went to the woods, to see how the character dynamics work out and go from there?
+1 to this. Also, I am having trouble getting my character's appearance to 15 sentences.
P.S. I'm a 'he', but if you are more comfortable with calling me a 'she', due to my character, that's fine.
