a character in “Sentinel/Guide: The Forest Trail”, as played by Sunny-Skies

Name: Jackie Monson

Age: 17

Position: Guide

Jackie is short, there’s no way around that fact. At 5’5”, she’s always being mistaken for a 14 year old (in one extreme case, a 12 year old), but she’s mostly accepted the fact. She is skinny, but not overly so. Her closet consists of mainly jeans and blouses, but she has a few skirts and tank tops as well. In the mornings, Jackie usually just wears the first thing that she touches. Her blonde hair is almost always in two messy pigtails. She doesn’t have any piercings, not even her ears, and she doesn’t have any tattoos. Jackie wears mascara and eyeliner to draw attention to her hazel eyes, and lip gloss, but not much makeup besides that. Her hands and arms are completely scarred from the many cats she has encountered. Jackie is almost always cold, so she carries a jacket with her at all times.

Personality: Jackie tends to blend into the background. She can be very shy when around strangers and doesn’t really talk that much when with her friends, either. She prefers to sit back and listen while everyone else does the talking. One of her best talents is to look like she isn’t paying attention while soaking in every word a person is saying. On the flip side of that, she’s also very good at looking like she’s paying attention while completely zoning out. Jackie has a hard time saying no to people she knows, so she can be a pushover. She worries about offending anyone, so Jackie is polite for the most part. This has caused several problems in the past involving overly talkative people not leaving her alone, but Jackie doesn’t have the heart to tell them to go away. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, but she doesn’t impose her beliefs on others. Jackie would be perfectly content hanging out with a criminal if they weren’t going to harm her in any way. Until she knows them, Jackie won’t really trust a person with anything besides her name. But once a friend, always a friend. Jackie loves laughing. She couldn’t tell a joke to save her life, but she knows a good one when she hears one. When around friends, Jackie is usually smiling or laughing, but she tends to be more serious when alone. Socializing can be very draining, so she regenerates by isolating herself and reading a book or listening to music.

History: Jackie’s mother left on Jackie’s fifth birthday. Her younger brother, Aaron, had just barely been born. Jackie didn’t remember much about her mom except that she was beautiful, but apathetic. She never tried to take care of Jackie or Aaron, so Jackie had learned to fend for herself early on. She didn’t want the same for her brother and since their father was almost never at home, Jackie decided to take on the “Mom” role. Every day after school Jackie would help him with his homework, make him dinner, ask him how his day had been, and so on. She learned how to take care of others and figure out what they needed. Her brother is now twelve, but he still depends on Jackie for most things. Even though this caused a lot of stress during high school, Jackie was still thankful for the responsibility because she figured it would come in handy later on in life.

Jackie was at a sleepover when she wandered into the woods. At around midnight, all the other girls decided they wanted to sneak into a movie, and Jackie reluctantly tagged along. They were taking a shortcut through the forest. Jackie was already trailing behind them a little when she dropped her flashlight on the ground. It started rolling away, so she ran after it. She was the only one that had needed some light and she knew everyone else would just tease her if she asked to go back. So one minute, Jackie was chasing her flashlight and the next, she was waking up in her sleeping bag the next morning. She still isn’t sure what happened, but she knows something is definitely different.
