Introduction
After having so much time, it was pretty obvious to everyone that it would've eventually been completely abandoned by the company, as was the fate of all dying MMOs. However, after to the protests of many players who had grown attached to the world of Aethia, they decided to keep at least one server left running.
But due to the lack of an administrator to oversee the game and manage its only running server, it was very vulnerable to outside threats.
On a slow night, a mysterious hacker took advantage of this and suddenly hacked into the virtual reality game, deleting the log-out function, and thereby locking the players into the world of Aethia, and the only way to escape would be to survive a total of seven years in game-time in Aethia. Maybe it doesn't seem that hard. That's understandable. After all, no matter how realistic it is, there's no way that a game can kill you, right?
But unbeknownst to most of the players, there are monsters scattered amongst the game that have a strange, unknown bug, one that could very well kill you for real if you're not careful...

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 6 authors
He was in big frustration; not only that jackass is only going to pay in jail time and money that will go to the mayor β probably β but he didnβt know anywhere else to apply for a job. He doesnβt know if they take anyone that work there for another type of job. Before he turn into a ball of destruction, he decided to go seek peacefulness with ambient music. He put his headphones on, quickly grabbing a tune with his phone, and blasted the music.
Durian took his bowl of cereal, closing the TV, and went up to his computer. He first checked on his emails; friend apologising for his lost, his psychologist wanting to know if he was alright, his boss repeating the news and the idea of rebuilding it, and some other notification about the game. He took time to answer each emails; he thanked his friends, he reassured the psychologist that he was alright, and he agreed to his boss proposition. For the game notification, he quickly passed on few of them. He was receiving both GM and player messages. Some players complained that the NPC doesnβt give them the quest. He laughed softly; it was both annoying and funny.
He didnβt planned anything this day besides spending time at his job. He thought that he might want to get on the game. The game is one of his joy, since he liked the feeling of it. It was truly good, and he liked to atmosphere. Only, the popularity was the reason a server . He could have only his GM account, but he preferred to play as a player. However, since the company that made the game knew about that, he still receive communications about it. The other GM often play with him.
He opened the program, immersed into the universe of Aethia
He was greeted by the usual sound of waiting messages, which he quickly dismiss. He already viewed them in his email. Now, where he left off? Oh right, he remember to have a fight with one of the players yesterday. He did defeated him, but due to his anger, he was kicked out of the tavern he was in. He felt like crap afterward, which is why he left the game. Although, his head still spun as he woke up from behind the tavern, scratching his head as he let out a groan. It didnβt felt good, but it was impressive for a game. The dragon felt his sword, making sure they were there, and he got out of the alley, where he saw people roaming around.
He still feel weird by the feeling of being unique. Of course, everyone is unique in a sense. But the fact that his body endured to be human for so many years and got back in this shape recently was still troubling for him. He knew that he was a dragon all along, but he was used to walk with human-like legs, and not digitigrade legs. He adapted quickly, but Sonowills could feel like if he was going to trip sometimes. Not very pleasant.
He decided to walk around the town he was in, forgetting the name of the town, and try to relief himself so he could be sober, feeling a bit under the effect of the alcohol he took yesterday. His mind was mildly sharp, but it would take much to make him as angry as last night. He wondered if there was more people who watched the fight.
--------
"Hey, how are you feeling toda-
Alot of people vis-"
"Its so foggy..." Tatsuna whined loudly, it sounded almost like a bark. Crossing her arms, looking up at the sky, her face plagued with worries. Looking down, she kicked a pebble into the field of grass that was but feet away. "Why is it only the start..." Looking outwards now, towads the horizon, her frown slowly lifted as she recalled more.
--------
"That great! Even if its just a lil-bit!
You know, I've brought something over. They said they'd cut down all the servers, but I saved your character and changed it to the last remaining one. You should remember this at least! Let me set it up."
-Who are you?
"You remember about that one boss? I spent alot of time working on it-"
-Who are you?
"I finally got it for you! I want you to take it out for a test drive."
"He was really friendly." Tatsuna smiled, looking around her. "Its warm here. I've been here hundred of times, right?" Placed her crossed arms on her lap, she looked down to her feet. "Why was he so friendly?"
--------
"Don't worry, things will be different this time. You wont get bored in here anymore. I heard they've changed something.
-I played this a lot?
"Yeah!-"
-Who are you?
"... I'm -______- Don't you remember?
Here, lets get you started."
Letting out a most drastic sigh, Tatsuna stood slowly, shoulders slouched and head low. Looking over her shoulder, she pulled out her weapon, Drake white. "I don't recall the boss...No one's seen this drop either..." She stood there silently and slowly she became indifferent about the whole matter.
Looking around her suddenly, "Why am I wasting time here?" Peering down at her weapon, she stared at it a bit. "You're a really cool weapon, you know that?" She gave a soft chuckle before latching it back onto her back. Looking up she looked determined to start something. "I should go stock up! Adventure awaits!" She twirled around to face the city, and skipped right along to 'down town', not really minding her direction.
Richard smashed his fist onto the plastic timepiece, cracking the surface, and stopping the ringing. He had been watching it for 15 minutes, waiting for the inevitable ring to strike. Still in his pajamas, he walked into his kitchen, and rushed through a bowl of cereal. There was no school today, so after he took a shower he changed into a t-shirt and jeans, then logged onto Aethia.
"The Valor of house Sixsmith sees another day," He announced to confirm his secondary password, a precaution to keep Ulric Sixsmith, Ulric Sixmith. No other could hack into his account, and he was very proud of that. His avatar poofed into existence in the grand throne room, sitting on his throne. Clad in azure armor, he stood up to address the NPC servants, and his tenants.
Many were doing well, their levels growing steadily until they were ready to see the world of Aethia for themselves. The catch was that they were indentured to him. He was growing his own personal army, and was completely content with providing them lodging.
"Javert," Ulric beckoned for his NPC butler, "I will be going into town, is the quick-travel station ready?"
"Yes Lord Sixsmith, it has been since you logged in." The butler brushed his hair to the side with his gloved hand. "Where is your destination today?"
"That nice little hamlet with the rather interesting shopping district, I feel the need to check what's on sale."
Ulric stepped onto the small seal emblazoned on the floor of a closet. Magical energies encircled him, and he appeared to what most would call "downtown". As he looked around, most of the shops had sales, and there was a large group of shoppers moving around. One that caught his eye was a Steam gunner with a rather impressive firearm. Somebody who would have obtained such a thing would have to have been experienced. Somebody that experienced must be powerful.
Somebody that powerful should be his ally.
"You, Tatsuna who wields the Dragons Breath," He whisper-chatted her "I am Ulric Sixsmith, Lord Partizan of House Sixmith. Could I interest you in a drink, conversation, and proposal of allegiance?"
Hearing a slight ping, a small purple tag suddenly appeared, she jumped a little when she heard Sixmith speak. Turning her head around she came apon a user who's name fit with the whisper. She took a moment to gather as to why he would strike conversation with her. The way he spoke was different from others that spoke to her today. A Role-playist, as she called them, perhaps? She thought maybe he had wanted help with a quest or a dungeon perhaps? She took to his arival a bit late, but a small smile came to her lips. "Hn!" She gave a quick nod, before giving a feint cough, letting Sixmith know she wasn't to use to the whole role-play style. "Well, Sixsmith. Lets skip the drink and hear out your proposal." Her smile fainted then frowned, no she couldn't stand the way she had spoken to him, she really wasn't cut out for this thing. "I'm sorry. Let me try that again." She turned on her heels slapped her cheeks and spun to face him once again. "Hello!" She had a smile that could reach ear to ear. "I'll hear you out." She gave a feint chuckle as she balanced on her toes, suddenly giglish and high spirited.
Once Rayve teleported into town he stretches and looks around the room. He then begins walking through town until he over hears a conversation between a Lord Partizan and a Steam Gunner. "Wow he takes way to much pride into staying into character. Lord Partizans aren't even royalty yet he acts like he is." He says quiet enough for the two not to hear him. He then continues to travel through the town.
"My proposal is that," His eyes drifted off from behind his blue helm, they had been caught by a rough-looking Tribal Grappler and, was that Sonowills? Both of which looked like they had been around Aethia and back. He simply must have them on his ultimate team. "My gravest apologies, would you excuse me for just a moment." With his Lord Partizan Ability Leap, he jumped over to them, grabbed them both by the collar of their shirts, and leapt back, placing them to the side of Tatsuna. He faced towards the grappler, who was between the other two. This time, Ulric made the chat private, so no other would accidentally overhear his grand scheme.
"My proposal is that, we band together and become a very auspicious team. You fight with me, and we all achieve great glory. If you'd rather be paid, I can subsidize you. Together, we could take on any task"
"If the next person I can find is a healer." Richard corrected himself
He hoped that they would agree. The fact that it was rather rude of him to just pluck them off of the streets was not in his favor. As the thought ran through Richard's mind, he knew exactly what Ulric would say next.
"I am sorry for the sudden 'manhandle', but you, Tribal Grappler, have an edge to you, which where I come from, makes all the difference"
"Hopefully the BS isn't too thick" Richard worried, hoping they would laugh and accept, rather than just laugh.
"And I would be honored to have the Mighty Sonowills at my side." Ulric knew Sonowills by reputation, while Richard knew that the Twin-blade's player was a game master. Hopefully he would understand that it was proper respect, and not Kiss-buttery,
So what say you, Steam Gunner, Tribal Grappler, Twin Blade? Will you accept my invitation to form a group the likes of which has never been experienced?

"I had to give up on my education, I don't want you to do the same." She would constantly remind him, she used to pay for a tutor but she could no longer afford it. "Alright I'll meet you in that little village in the valley. But first thing first, I'm starving." Kara was the best cook ever in Antonio's eyes if he wasn't gay or related he would marry her. "I put it on your desk eat up, first okay?" He nodded she left the room smiling now, once she left he got ready. Dressed himself in the clothes after removing them from his face, ate breakfast, showered, and pressed the button on his giant ass gaming PC.
His model was the newest model of VR tech he sat in a large chair and the machine did the rest. His eyes opened and he woke up on the grassy knoll he had slept on, Dirk rose a different person. He stood up and scanned the horizon for the meeting point that he promised to meet Fauna, his sisters avatar, at. His model was very unique he had slight pain settings, just a little jolt here a nd there, dieing is just a slight ache.
Once he reached town he saw some idiots jumping around and causing a big racket, some snooty little creep got punched in the face. Making Dirk slightly smile, he continued to walk throught the middle of town. A lot of NPCs were staring at him and a few players too. He ignored them as usual and stormed ahead his black armor gleaming.
Without the Partizanβs answer, he unsheathed his swords, profiting the fact that the partisan was flying backward into a river. βOh, and alsoβ¦β he leaped over the partisan to his back, finishing his sentence: ββ¦I donβt like to be shook like this.β He slashed his sword upward to launch Ulric in the air, where most people were vulnerable. He jumped into the air, chaining a combo on the defenceless character, launching him back into the ground. He finished the execution with a front flip. The attack only meant to knock of half of the partizanβs health bar, but knowing him, it probably dealt less. Besides, they were in the city, which mean no damage was dealt.
When he landed on the ground, he chuckled warmly. βLater,β he said as he ran away, disappearing to the undescribed dungeon. It was an open world were wyvern and other kinds of reptiles ruled the desert-like land. Sonowills always found himself close to his homeland when he visited this dungeon, and sometimes refuse to even fight the smallest reptile. He prowl around to find a spot to sit on in the waiting of the small party to find him. He chose the top of a boulder near the end of the cliff. The dragonoid watched the wasteland and its inhabitants, feeling the end of the land connecting with his. The wind embraced his face in such a way that he didnβt feel the same anymore.
It took time, but Sonowills was connected to his character. He closed his eyes, tilting his head like if he was trying to hear something. For him, there was a faint roar in the background. At first, he thought it was a bug in the system that made the sound play for him, but he realised that the roar bared a significance in the draconian language. Being a huge nerd, or the fact he felt like being native to the language, he could translate it to Come to me⦠What a weird choice of location for that sound. Anyways, even with the impulse he has, he felt like ignoring the call, waiting for the others to find him.
( Note: I know there is a huge godmodding in there, but I just wanted to clear out that Iβve talked to Pulse before posting. )
Everything was blurry at first - a soft bed beneath her, a shallow and dark ceiling above, and sweet smells with pungent whisps mingled into an odd mixture - all familiar sensations of her small cabin. Iolanthe blinked twice before her vision gained its accuracy, and slowly slid off her bed. She would miss her home, this cabin filled to the brim with odds and ends, strange artefacts, ancient books, vials of ink and monster blood, the clutter relaxing and refreshing when compared to Audrey's neatly-kept room. Well, since this would be her last day of existence, she would travel through Aethia, visiting her favourite places.
She walked out of her cabin and into a busy main street within the city. Having made sure that the sign on her door announced that the fortune-teller's den was closed, she began to walk in the direction of the main square. As she was slowly making her way to her destination, she noticed that the tower of a man ahead of her - was he taller than even 1,90 m? - who was walking briskly through the street, pause for a moment. Curious, she followed his gaze to see that several people were having some sort of fun, one of them jumping and grabbing people from the street. Distressed by the idea, she hid herself in the shadows of a nearby building and began to observe them. Watching the actions of others never gets old! she thought to herself as she smiled faintly and rested her chin on top of her upturned wrist.
A short while after receiving his meal, Kara's avatar appeared. "Are you drunk brother?" Kara asked impatiently, he was not allowed to drink in real life but that didn't stop him in Aethia. Though Kara didn't wait for a response, "How the hell are we supposed to quest when your drunk?" Dirk sighed, "I'll manage."
-Three hours later-
"Wow thanks a lot Tony, I leveled up four levels!" Kara gave him a hug and logged out. Leaving him be, he took out a pouch that was leather and full of coins. Hopefully that whore at the tavern wouldn't miss it too bad, not that he cared. After his sister left he decided to leave town and make camp in some isolated wasteland. The desert sounded as good a place as any to stay. Once he found where grass met sand he wandered. He knew there was a dark dungeon near bye that was fairly dangerous and full with dragon kin and reptile monsters. He stepped on a patch of sand and tried to raise his foot, but his foot was being pulled down. He struggled and squirmed but he was caught, the more he struggled the farther he sank. His mouth was almost full of sand and it was passing over his face, this would mean he had to red pawn at a main town and he would have to stay at a inn, the guards probably were probably aware of his thievery. His legs dangled under the sand suggesting that there was a cave under him, he tried to speed up him sinking. In an instant he was free and in a dark tunnel gasping for breath as sand rained down on him. He looked up to see what he first thought to be an enemy, but he realized that the red skinned being was a player seeing the name Sonowills above it, he recongnized him from before in the village. "What the hell is this place?"
β¦ He was on the ground, groaning in pain. His vision was blurred as he slowly stood up. He wasnβt sure what was in front of him, but a dark voice said to him: βYouβll never touch the sky again.β And the dark mass disappeared in front of him. The dragon was lost, since he wasnβt sure what just happened before. Few moments he saw a player coming up to him, helping out of the dungeonβ¦
β¦ He wondered where that player was after all these years. He havenβt seen the character since then. Maybe the player stopped to play; he wasnβt sure of it. Suddenly, he heard a stranger talking behind him, and he immediately opened his eyes, turning around calmly on the boulder. He wasnβt expecting someone else than those he saw in the group. There was a grin on his face. βWell, you seem rather lucky to discover this place. I havenβt seen a lot of players roaming this wasteland, but it is understandable due to the dangerous terrains.β He didnβt really stated the true reason behind this dungeon. Since he was a GM, he was informed that this place had a darker secret, but since he was the one controlling Sonowills, he couldnβt know what that secret was. It would be a big spoiler for him and the community itself, even if Piko wasnβt talking about it. However, it added to intrigue of what they programmed into this dungeon. He jumped down the boulder, looking directly into Dirkβs eyes.
He was curious about the character. He doesnβt remember to see him from anywhere, nor did he in the past. It does make him suspicious to him, but he never trusted anybody around the servers anyways, when it comes to the game itself. βSo, tell me,β He said keeping his distance from him, βWhat are you doing here? I mean, I know players fall into the trap quite often, but youβre one of them that stayed.β
