Eris

Eris is an Elven rigger in her mid twenties, living up to the legacy of her late mother

0 · 788 views · located in Berlin

a character in “Shadowrun: Rise of APEX”, as played by TheRose202

Description

Race: Elven
Height: 5'3"
Skin colour: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Hair Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Green
Long description: Standing shorter than most Elves, this slim woman makes up for her stature with her personality. An easy smile graces her strong features, and her brilliant emerald eyes sparkle with mirth nearly always. Her face is framed by her long, black hair, flowing down to about mid-back. A stripe of dark purple gives flair and colour to her sable locks, streaking down her left bangs from root to tip. Her long, pointed ears have numerous peircings, and she tends to wear quite a few chains about her neck. She has a lithe, athletic form, honed over the years from working on drones and repairing security systems and vehicles and the like. She normally wears an old worn, dark green heavy combat jacket from the Euro-wars, adorned with multiple military patches she's collected over the years, with a black tank top underneath, complimented by tight black leather leggings, thick enough to protect against minor injuries and bad weather, yet still stylish, and completed by a pair of heavy black combat boots, giving her the appearance of an urban soldier.
Equipment: She inherited the best cyberdeck money can buy - the Farlight Xcalibur - from her mother, the first to use the name Eris. It's been modified and tailored to suit her particular style, however, and she wears it upon her back with pride, despite it making her an obvious target for mugging. Two drones follow her around constantly, a class-S Guardian, one of the best combat hoverdrones on the market, and a class-B RoboDoc, basically a medkit on wheels, although it appears she's mounted a mortar on it, capable of launching a single flash-bang grenade. She is noticably devoid of traditional weaponry, preferring to rely upon her drones in combat. Her left arm has been replaced by an auto-injector for a tranquilizing narcotic called Bliss, synthesised from poppy plants, which she uses both recreationally and as a pain-reducer in battle. Her datajack, strangely, is not on her head, but installed into the back of her hand, a circular port that clearly stands out against her skin. One of her eyes has been augmented with a laser-designator, which she uses in tandem with her drones to make target designation easier. She also possesses a set of Aztechnology cyberlegs, augmented with a hydralic jack, used to get out of sticky situations in a hurry. It's a surprise she has any spiritual essence left with the amount of chrome she's packing.

Biography: Eris, whose real name, Taera Smith, is unknown to most who aren't close to her, was born in Berlin to two extremely successful Shadowrunners, both well-known in the Shadows and possessing great skill. Her mother, widely considered by other Shadowrunners to be one of the most expert Deckers of her time, taught her the ways of Decking, though Taera always gravitated toward hardware rather than software. She bought her first drone, a Doberman C-class combat drone, when she was 13, caring for it with as much care as one might care for a beloved pet, and treating it almost as a living thing. Her father was a Shaman and an Anarchist, formerly a frontman for a glitch punk band, and taught her all about the Flux State, and how the ever-changing stable anarchic government was the only true way to govern, all its citizens free to do what they please, yet equally inclined to help each other. However -- as teenagers are like to do, especially in a place like East Berlin -- Taera began to form her own ideas, and fell in quickly with the neo-socialist crowd, much to the chagrin of her parents. Over the course of her adolescence, she became more and more distant from her parents as fights about political matters became more and more common. Despite this, when the riots began anew and her parents were killed by a Knight Errant death squad, Taera was devastated. It took her years to pick up the pieces after that, and she became a hedonist, falling into promiscuity and drinking and becoming addicted to the tranquilizing narcotic known as Bliss. After a long period of self-pity, she finally was able to pick herself up, with the resolve to avenge the death of her parents. Recently, she's become an independent Shadowrunner herself, using her talents of Rigging, and to a lesser extent decking, to make a name and a minor fortune for herself. Now, she's finally ready to join the fight against the corporations, slowly turning to the visions of anarchy that her parents embodied, and taking up their mantle...

So begins...

Aphelion's neck twisted a fraction, her head turned toward the girl - the elf who had invited them over - regarding her with only partially concealed suspicion, and an infinitesimal trace of respect. She certainly was not one to be overly covert, now was she? By her personal standards, Aphelion considered this to be rather brazen. About as brash as severing someone's head as opposed to going for a lethal plunge through the torso. Less spray that way. Despite not being the chatty one of her duo, she ruminated on the girl's words, keeping her ears only mildly keened for anything else that might warrant her attention. Such as somebody moving nearer, or a new customer entering the cafe.

Chumming it up with a new team was risky, but potentially rewarding. Larger groups meant a broader spectrum of talents, more to fit deal with unforeseen or potential threats. Neither she nor Tam were any good with a deck, and the latter had little interest in magic. He preferred the flashiness and art of precise kills with his pistols. A kind of wannabe Sixth Wold gunfighter, minus a terribly tragic modernized cowboy hat. While strength in numbers had its benefits, they did not know these people. They could be playing them, that was something she would not allow herself to ignore. It certainly had passed through her partner's head, she knew how Tam worked and had already seen it in his eyes and body language. He was sizing the younger elf up in turn. Aphelion admitted she was paranoid, possibly by necessity, but even still...

She stared evenly into her coffee, not betraying any of this internal warfare through any tightening of muscles or sharp, erratic movements. She was relaxed, placid even. Her face gave no secrets to what coursed across her brain. Things had been slow lately. Jobs were getting scarce, good runs were almost extinct. They'd been forced to take a lot of milk runs just to keep any kind of nuyen flowing into their pockets, and the only sizable pay had come from disproportionately risky runs considering there was only two of them. Because of her nature, Aphelion was usually averse to hiring on other runners for one time jobs. Tam was good at handling their funds, which was where the joke had come from. It was nothing new to hear him referring to himself as such. She did tend to be less frugal than her friend.

Her ears picked up the sound of footfalls approaching, and she adjusted the way her head was leaned, tilting even further to one side. The man who had come in with the dainty elf girl was walking right up to their newest.. associate.. and immediately revealed he wanted in on whatever was going down. She lifted her mug for a drink, the ceramic lingering against her lips as the slowly cooling liquid ran down her throat. Setting the mug down softly onto the bar, she laid her hands flat against the wood and finally decided to make herself known as more than Tam's companion. She was the one in charge of her two person team, not just its sword.

Her voice sounded a bit rough when she talked, like it was dragging very faintly against her throat- a palpable presence that sought to hold on, rather than being sent to dissipate into the air. "You're looking to make something interesting, I hope. Something worth our time." She raised her head, eyes even higher, all the way to the ceiling. "Assuming you're not just setting us up." The bluntness was entirely on purpose. She was to poke, to prod, to see if she could glean anything from this girl. She could never be too sure. Not ever.

Tam thumped the bar irritably, drawing her stare.

It was disinterested.

The elf's lips twisted into a weak grimace, and his eyes sharpened. "You really haven't an ounce of people skills, do you?" He hissed at her. Clicking his tongue, Tam swung back around and smiled. It looked forced, almost plastic. Empty. "Don't mind her, she's an incurable pessimist."

"You're exaggerating." Aphelion coolly responded, now looking off into space once more.

Tam's expression faded to a dull glare aimed at the wall. Thoughts ran through his head like cram through a junkie's veins, swiftly and doing very little one could ultimately call "good". He shook himself and sighed, fixing his attention on the elf again. "Basically, we're interested. I'm not sure if you've exactly hooked the both of us just yet," he glanced over his shoulder, "But if you've got a proposal, we're definitely in the market to..." He looked sidelong shortly, holding his hands apart as he chose the next words, "Branch out."

Aphelion raised her mug. "That was terrible."

"You're not exactly helping!" Tam snapped, his teeth clenched.

Hanging her head to the right, Aphelion took a deep breath to steady her nerves. They had not always been like this, but ever since coming to Berlin it had been a steady evolution - or possibly devolution, if you wanted to look at it from that angle. Deciding to settle the matter, her eyes jumped to the girl. "We're in."

Iris looked around finally noticing everyone around her. Soon she spotted Eris, the only familiar face around here though she didn't know her personally. This was starting to get dangerous and she had the distinct urge to run. Standing up slowly she stayed rooted to the spot. As Eris had been around awhile, she considered her on of her own, part of her city's lifeblood. She had a feeling that something could go wrong here and for her, taking care of her own was just as important as taking care of herself.

She stood up more confidently and strode over spar to Eris. Blue sparks started swimming over her hands, though only noticeable if you had a fast enough eye to see them. Looking up at Eris on the stool, she spoke, her voice as bubbly as ever. "You know, you're part of this city, if you need help, I suggest you take someone you know will watch your back. As most of these people are strangers to our city, I don't mind coming along to help you in whatever you are needing help with.I may not be much help, but I'll be help none the less." smiling brightly she took a seat beside Eris, her eyes twinkling.

Sentinel shuffled slightly and extended his arm to grab a nearby stool. In a swift motion he dragged it along the floor, sweeping it through his legs, perching himself upon it, in an attempt to join the ever growing cluster of bodies filling up the relatively small cafe. Spying Iris taking a seat next to the elf girl, Sen felt relieved. He knew Iris was this delicate flower on the surface, but he couldn't shake the prospect that she could be more underneath, that it could be all a ruse, or like a suit she wore to the rest of the world to hide this mystery of a person beneath. Mysteries set Sen on edge, and excited him at the same time, shooting through him a giddiness that he seldom experienced. Craning his neck to survey the other members of this troop he could tell the mysteries would only keep on coming.

Sen inhaled slowly through his nose as he scanned this new crowd, leaning back as he did so like an artist pleased with his work. The stupid grin wouldn't leave either, plastered to his face like a stain on a white shirt, it wouldn't leave until he stopped contemplating the many stories and talents these individuals held. The first to speak was the human woman, who looked like she travelled with the elf at the bar. Now, this one... Sen thought as he focused on her. She appeared blunt and brief, not that Sen in his tactless nature would have had concern with, but it nonetheless stuck out to him.

Paying less attention to what she actually said, and paying more to her profile and the way she presented herself, Sentinel was intrigued as to why she seemed so cold, with a thousand yard stare that shot through the elf girl she was addressing.

He was about to ask her directly, when her partner interjected with a comment.

Sen burst out in a quick, yet fairly loud chuckle at the dynamic between the two of them, his hand giving a sharp tap on the edge of the his stool before composing himself and facing the rest of the group.

"This cements it" he squawked, raising a fist with an outstretched thumb and motioning towards the duo. "If these two are in, I definitely am"

Finally Sen had had his fill, he knew Crow would want to see results eventually, she surely wasn't one to enjoy waiting, and certainly not feeling out of control. Whatever operation this would turn out to be, he almost felt like he needed to start it soon.

"We do need to know the details of this run, I'm not going in dark" he stated, perhaps wearing the most serious of faces so far today.

Brandon raises his coffee up to his lips once more and take another sip of the brew before placing his cup on the counter and looked back at the others over Eris's shoulder. "Now lets be honest about this, there is not a good chance this could be all good. Over half a dozen runners meeting at a hole in the wall shop, can't really expect such a good turn out... can we? The PDA buzzes for a moment before he sends another message on the other line "Working a lead, will contact you again soon." That prompted the host of the room to close its operations, the signaling image of a white rabbit racing across the screen was the last he saw of his contact.

He stands and looks at the whole group again.
"Lets get this straight, I for one am all for it.. hell I will even help finance it. Seeing as I just came into some extra scratch recently." He shrugs a moment before adjusting his stance and sliding the PDA into his coat pocket. He winces a bit as he rotates his right arm forward and then again when it rotates back. He finally starts to fish under his arm with his other hand as he speaks.

"All I'm suggesting is a change of scenoriy before plans go down and maybe a chance.. to.." He shifts his weight one moment before pulling a lodge round out of his body armor and dropping it in the empty glass next to his coffee. "At least get ourselves sorted once more.. maybe a quick change of clothes. If its not too much to ask?"

Redcap had been trying to flag down the bartender for several minutes- a task which seemed more difficult now than it had been when she'd had the shop to herself. She supposed she was easily missed among the taller heads, colorful tattoos not withstanding. She hunched over the bar gritting her teeth before looking over at the group which had grown around her potential benefactor. That girl certainly had a way about her, didn't she. Redcap hadn't been gone five minutes and already the woman had assembled what was probably not the largest group Redcap had ever had the opportunity to work with, but definitely one which ranked in her top five.

She looked over those gathered, trying to pick what she could off their appearance. Most looked standard runner stock (if you could call any runner "standard"), with the exception of one girl who frankly looked a bit lost, but a good team overall. None of them had yet acknowledged her presence as far as she could tell, which Redcap hoped was possibly a good sign. She couldn't help noticing how many elves were amongst them; she didn't think she'd been this close to this many since... well. In a while.

She hopped down off the barstool and shuffled over to join them when a couple of the men asked about details. She'd gotten nought but bones when she'd spoken with Eris, so if the other two had better luck she'd like to be around to hear it. She slapped lightly at the leg of the bearded human, jerking her head to one side in a way which conveyed that she would like him to hop off the stool. She must be shoulder-height for group conversations, damn it.

Eris grins widely at the two new recruits. Clearly things were beginning to go her way again. Just how she liked it. That is, until the human lady begins to question her motives. Such blunt mistrust could be an issue, but as usual, Eris maintains her sunny smile. "Ah, don't worry about it, my friend. She has a right to know. Well, my dear lady, since you seem so keen on knowing what exactly is going on -- and I suspect my Dwarven friend with the perked ears here would also like to know -- I will tell you. But, ah...perhaps not here. My friend is right, staying in one place for too long, especially when discussing such sensitive matters, is a very bad idea. Come, friends, shall we talk business elsewhere? There's this quaint little safehouse that my mother and her friends used to use as a meeting area. That should work wonderfully, hmm?" She downs her soykaff, places a hefty stash of nuyen on the bar, stands and beckons to the group, including the small-but-not-forgotten Redcap.

"Iris, of course you are welcome to come. You're right, it would be nice to have a known and trusted ally along, although I'm sure these fellows are more than trustworthy," she says as she starts toward the door, her two drones falling in behind her. "I wouldn't have offered them employment if they didn't look like they could be trusted." It's all complete drek, of course; one could never trust fellow runners until they'd been on a mission or ten together. But it couldn't hurt to sweet talk them a little and cement relationships. She stops in her tracks shortly, however, her ears perking up, her drone's amped audio receptors picking up something, a rapid crackling sound. Then a communication broadcasts from the Kiev wall. Something about being under attack before it goes dark in a wave of static. Eris' eyes widen as she realises what it is. "We really need to leave now," she says, her voice dead serious for the first time since the group convened. Unfortunately, unwittingly, they'd run out of time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With a horrible cracking sound, the front door to the cafe caves inwards, and a massive troll in a heavy combat suit moves through the empty frame flanked by blinding light, a massive 50 caliber machine gun that would likely break the arm of a lesser man hoisted upon his shoulder. With nary a word of warning he opens fire, mowing down a line of innocent customers in an explosive pink spray. Eris grabs Iris on reflex and hoists her up with a level of strength fueled entirely by a sudden boost of adrenaline, diving over the bar with the smaller elf woman in her arms and taking cover as the massive rounds whizz overhead. "Oh this is just fragging wonderful!" she yells as she begins to concentrate on her drones, the RoboDoc lobbing a smoke grenade at the entrance, quickly obscuring half the café from view as the Guardian zips into the frey, toggling its infrared target acquisition on. This sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen until they were on Corporate turf. Definitely not how she planned this run. Looks like the Corporations beat her to the punch.

Iris was shocked for a moment and just sat in Eris's grasp for a moment before her features became angry. How DARE he ruin her favorite cafe. How DARE he harm her people and how DARE he bring a gun, something she fears most. A soft and dainty growl emerged from her lips before she stood up.

She looked around the cafe for a split second to see where she should go. Seeing that there was still one customer unhurt and hiding in the corner she jumped over the counter and slid under the volley of bullets and landing against the wall with the innocent. "Come on, follow me." she whispered to her. Iris grabbed her hand and began pulling her, keeping low, to the back door. Once there she shoved her out and dashed to behind the counter again.

She then stood up again, her features still angry. She began drawing energy from around her, collecting a massive amount. Her aim was steady, and a snarl of rage erupted from her as she sent a massive bolt of lightning at the troll, fueling all her anger into it. It was a massive column of sparking blue, crackling and popping though staying it's course. She ducked back down, waiting for the scream of the hit, if there would be one.

Redcap's world was filled with light and smoke, gunfire and explosions. She spat out a string of curses as she sprinted for cover, bent nearly in half to keep her already low head even farther under the spray of bullets. She slid around the corner of the bar before diving behind its blessedly armored face, hands jumping to her holsters once the counter was between the invading force and herself.

"Do ye have a plan, new boss?" she shouted over the sound of urban warfare. "Or are we just gonna sit here and let these bastards have their way with us?"

There was a flash of lightning as the blonde elf cast a spell, and Redcap hazarded a glance around the bar to see where it landed. Half the café was filled with smoke, causing Redcap to doubt whether she'd know for sure any time soon. Nonetheless, the elf's magic succeeded in inspiring an act from Redcap, and the ginger dwarf placed her guns on the floor momentarily.

She began rubbing her hands together quickly, feeling electricity run through her fingers, sending out little flecks of static. She separated her hands slowly, and a small ball of lightning began collecting between them, growing to the size of a baseball within a couple of seconds. She hopped up and grabbed the counter with her left hand, lifting herself high enough to fling her spell over the top at the door of the café, then dropped down as the bundle of electricity lashed out at those around it. It would only occur afterward whether any of her own side might have been caught in it.

Brandon stayed standing as the young elf spoke, she was right about deciding to go and get a change of location and right now the word phrase safe house let him get the idea of a chance to clean up more thoroughly. He lifted his coffee cup to see if anything remained at the bottom and was somewhat sad to see that he would not have another sip of its delightful taste. As he slid the cup back against his earlier glass and set them side by side, his eyes caught an intense look running across Eris's face. Something was wrong as he could already tell from that look, the same look that his father would get when running his own mind through the net and processing processing the problems with his own expressions.

He was tempted to lean in and ask the problem she was evaluating, only to have a small glimmer of light shine over the side of his face and catch his eye. Follow by the doors of the cafe splitting and shunting from its hinges, sending most of its frame fracturing out into the open air. The burst paints most of the room in a continuous stream of cold air, until the firing begins and Brandon jumps over the counter with the warm spray of another patron lightly wafting against his face.

Checking the gun and sliding another clip in he peers over the top of the counter between sprayed rounds, to get a better look at their assailant. He didn't recognize the monster of a man and reserved to think it was someone else who was after them as they were. "There should be an exit out the back." He glanced quickly to look for the owner and saw he was gone, most likely skipped out when the first rounds got fired.

This new turn of events certainly presented a problem. The appearance of a heavily armoured and well equipped hit squad could tell anyone that this run might be a troublesome one, this certainly occurred to Sen. However it also told him that he was heading in the right direction. His first action then, as many of the others was to find cover, although his approach may have been slightly unorthodox.

In one motion shooting up, while swiping the stool he had been sitting on across the room with one hand, retrieving his pistol from it's side holster with the other. As many in the room dashed aside, hoping to avoid the myriad of gunfire showering the room, Sen walked casually towards the nearby wall to safety. Everything had escalated so quickly he had little time to come to terms with what was going on, as magical incantations whizzed past and robotic assistance flew overhead, Sentinel was simply overcome with equal parts adrenaline and excitement. Unfortunately his invincibility was short lived and as the shots flew out of his side arm, pounding a deafening shock as they did, bullets from the unknown enemy's weapons zipped past narrowly missing his head, yet grazing his left leg.

Stumbling to one knee, a sudden vacant look on his face, Sen jumped to the wall, the strength of his other leg propelling him. A leg wound wasn't too much of a problem, and it was a superficial one at that, he'd had worse. Throwing his bag across his shoulders onto the floor was his next move, reaching for the weapon parts inside, his leg may be grazed but his shooting arms could still kill. As he was about to combine the largest parts of his rifle, he stopped to gaze at the carnage. The others who would be running with him were huddled in cover to avoid the hefty machine gun reigning death upon the patrons. Or they would be running with him, if they made it out alive.

Then Sen felt a chill.

"Stop"

A voice called out from the void, and Sen stopped. Observing the situation, he began to survey and evaluate as he'd trained to do, the excitement fading, the adrenaline rush subsiding. Sen exhaled and returned his rifle's parts to the bag, backing closely against the wall. The cafe room was maybe slightly larger than a lounge, no way he could properly aim and fire off sufficient rounds in here. Right again Crow, as much as it was an annoyance to not use his rifle after so long. He instead turned to the back of the cafe, looking for a potential exit. As much as it was Sen's goal to observe such moments of conflict, he'd seen enough and he'd rather it not be the last one he sees.

Iris peeked over the counter looking around to see where the others went. Guns were everywhere and her anger was subsiding. All she could do now was focus on the guns. Fear overcame her and she ducked back down holding her head in her hands trembling. She wanted to run, to escape. Her thoughts were frantic spinning everywhere and nowhere. Where could she turn, where could she hide, how could she get away.

She felt the vibration of a stool being shoved against the counter. It shocked her out of her thoughts and she peeked up again just in time to see Sen get hurt. She could tell it was minor but her was still bleeding and therefore it could get infected. At this moment her need to help kicked and and she vaulted over the counter, and used the momentum to land and slide along the ground. She slammed into Sen and was dazed for a moment before she sat up a little and placed a hand on his leg.

A soft glow emanated from her hand and healed his cut. She then tipped over a table and huddled behind it waiting for the shooting to stop in a huddled position.

Eris barely perceives the movement to her side as Iris disappears over the counter, her mind completely occupied with helping her drone dodge the flying rounds. "You know, I'm really getting tired of sitting here getting shot at!" she shouts over the gunfire, as the .50 cal rounds begin to shred through the bar, narrowly missing her and thoroughly disrupting her concentration, "How about we ditch this joint and find somewhere where maybe we could, you know, not get shot at!" Meanwhile, the contingent of foot troops that came with this particular strike team are being mowed down by her Guardian, while her RoboDoc takes care to be as inconspicuous as possible.

The smoke would be clearing soon, too. They need to move. So, as is in her blood, Eris decides to take the lead. "Follow me!" she calls, entirely inconspicuously and probably a little too loud for her own good, forced to duck again as another volley tears through the air near her head. The few survivors of the blasts are either incapacitated or mortally wounded, and so the remaining Runners are that much bigger a target. Eris grabs Aphelion and Tam Lin from their collars where they decided to stake out and presumably fire back, and tugs them along with her as she runs toward the door, scooping up the shotgun from behind the bar and nearly shattering her arm as she fires it in the Troll's general direction. It's only due to the blasts of magic that the few of them are still alive, having shredded one his arms to a pulp, the electric shock causing spasms and extreme pain in the other. And the shotgun slug is the straw that breaks the camel's back, severing the Troll's firing arm at the shoulder, causing him to drop the weapon and give the Runners an opening.

The Class S Guardian tears out of the thinning smoke in a large puff of white, and the silhouette of the soldiers behind the smoke have all but disappeared. Eris leads the group toward the back door, leading into a narrow alleyway opening into a broken fence once separating an overgrown U-Bahn track from the row of buildings. A successful escape!

Or so it seems. Eris reaches the door and places her hand upon the knob, turning it and tearing the door open...

A way out was good, living to see another day was even better. Sentinel thought of nothing other than getting to safety at this point. Acknowledging the elf's healing magic, Sen gave Iris a quick pat on the shoulder and started across the room to the doorway that this Eris had led to. The unidentified soldiers still a threat, Sen quickly performed a shamanistic spell towards the now broken and in ashes, former doorway. The effects of his efforts gave a slowing effect to a number of the closer enemies, looking as if they had simply forgotten that they were supposed to be shooting. Sentinel had hoped that this would be enough for his potential team mates to escape, he did not entirely trust them, but he knew he would need them.

The door led to a hallway, the hallway led to the outside, and beyond the danger of the cafe the group appeared to be in a temporary state of safety. As he briskly walked from the area Sentinel thought about what had just happened, as he did however, his totem called to him. Crow wanted a word, and he could feel her displeasure before any notion of a word was uttered.

"What just happened?" Crow asked, a condescending tone carrying her words. She obviously already knew the answer.
"Yeah, I know, we got out though, we're fine for now" Sen replied, attempting to save some of his dignity.
"For now..."
"Come on, it's a dangerous job, I know you'd like to see where this is headed same as me"
"Do you think I'd be able to do that if you get yourself killed?"

Sen smirked as he stepped into the bitter cold of the Berlin winter, his breath a plume upwards as the noise of the cafe situation died down.
"What's the matter Crow, you getting attached?"
"Please, you flatter yourself. You're not the only one I talk to, no more than a pawn" She scoffed. "But our arrangement is still the same, you carry out my work, and I help you do it, along with whatever else you think is worth your short time on this earth"
"So what are we talking about then, why did you call me?"
"I called you, to warn you" Sen felt a chill, more than the winter could do, deep within him. "Be more observant, this job does have potential, but there's more to it"

Thinking on her words, Sentinel began to evaluate. Breaking out of his head space and returning to reality he found himself cold and angry, a light splatter of blood across his face from god knows what poor soul. He jerked towards Eris, "What the drek was that?" He snarled. "How come you seemed to know what was happening?". He wiped his face with his hand, removing sweat and blood from his rough chin. "I'm on board with this, but I need to know what is going on, who is trying to kill us..."

He straightened himself, "...and when the hell can I shoot them"

Redcap jumped to her feet when she saw Eris move for the rear door. She stepped backwards toward the exit, waiting to see the entire team had made it out before she did. She eyed over her shoulder as the last of them made it out, then drew the knife on her belt. Redcap brought the blade across the inside of her left thumb, her eye barely twitching as blood began pooling in her palm. She blew a steady stream of air into her wounded hand as if blowing away dandelion fluff, causing the room to fill with a dark red fog so thick she could barely see an inch in front of her.

That should buy enough time to get to that safehouse o' hers, Redcap thought, turning and running out of the building. She knew not to worry about her hand; any blood that had been on it was gone now, the cut already beginning to scar.

She regretted her lack of a jacket as she stepped out into the freezing winter air. Not much she could do about it now, of course; she'd have to wait until no one was trying to kill them to deal with that specific issue. She saw the bearded human was interrogating Eris, something she didn't necessarily disagree with, bot his decision to do so now seemed really stupid.

"You really think now's a good time for that?" Redcap demanded, returning her knife to her belt and storming over to the cloaked man. "If ye handn't noticed, twenty feet from the back door isn't exactly a great distance from the bastards who were jus' tryin' to paint the café with our brain tissue!"

Iris was panting at this moment in time. Sens pat had spurred her into action. She was on auto pilot as she ran out the door, barley noting the stray bullet that embedded it'self into her shoulder. It was when the cold hit her that she felt it. Blood was seeping out of her shirt and she dropped to her knees, her hand on her shoulder, numb. She watched the others silently arguing and stood up.

"We n-need to get out of here." she said gritting her teeth through the pain. She looked at all of them her face grim. "You either come with me or stay here and get shot." she said trying to sound brave. She squared her shoulder and winced as her wound was pulled and began walking down the alley.

Aphelion would have grimaced, had she not wanted to keep a resolute mask. A promise of answers rang more as a run around, and she was starting to wonder if this was a good idea after all. A tiny voice at the back of her head whispered in an annoyingly condescending tone that the elf was playing it smart. It was, admittedly, best not discuss the details of a run out in public. Such things were best left for secure channels or face-to-face meetings. The usual drek one went through to land a job, if they were looking in the right places. She glanced around, feigning absentmindedness, and silently acknowledged that this venue probably was not the most secure dive in Berlin. Then again, what did she know? She had not been in the Flux State for that long. Downing the last of her coffee, Aphelion's back straightened as she laid her palms flat on the bar top. Her skin was beginning to itch. Maybe it was about time they got going.

From his seat, Tam observed the others in silence as they each chimed in. Even the dwarf had returned to the bar, apparently with renewed interest in the proceedings. He elected to keep his mouth shut for now, and tried to get a feel for these runners. The cloaked, dark-haired human who had come in with the waifish elf seemed to have his wits about him, as well as an obfuscated curiosity beneath his dour countenance. By contrast, the other human sat at the bar looked torn between the matter at hand and his own affairs. At least he appeared a businesslike sort. Perhaps he could be counted on. Time- or turmoil- would tell. As he oh-so nonchalantly turned for a better glimpse of the others, their new employer declared it was time to relocate. He shot a look at Aphelion, one she saw coming, and slipped smoothly off of his seat. "I won't be one to lie, you've gotten my curiosity piqued," he informed with a painted on grin. His partner moved to follow, smoothing out her coat. He knew it was just a show, and that she was really feeling her tucked away sword for reassurance. Like a child reaching for their favorite stuffed animal.

That was when Eris stopped, and Tam's gut twisted as apprehension's hand gripped him like a demon from the aether. Their impromptu boss grimly stated, "We really need to leave now," and the cafe exploded. Light poured in through the new entryway as a hulking silhouetted figure lumbered over the broken boards. If that image alone was not striking enough, his weapon sure as hell hammered the situation home. Tam's hands had been reflexively going to his pistols, but they immediately fell right back to his sides as he whirled around, scanning for cover. The only thing that looked half descent was the bar, which he vaulted over with Aphelion right on his heels. A few of the others took a similar route. Tam's ears caught the tell-tale sound of the gun whirring up, the mechanism spinning the monstrosity to life a painful second before it roared a hail of lead across the cafe's interior.

Aphelion, sat beside Tam with her back pressed hard against the bar, glanced at him with barely concealed rage brimming up in the deeps of her eyes. "This is your fault," she blandly informed over the tumult of large caliber rounds.

An indignant scoff clawed up Tam's throat, the only response he bothered to give. His mind was reeling, a thousand contingencies all muddled together in a brutal fist fight for supremacy. His heard was thundering in his ears, every pulse ramming home in his chest and pumping his veins full of epinephrine. This was hardly the kind of drek you got hit with on your average run. Drugged up gang bangers and the occasional opposing runner usually did not merit much of a risk. The quick glance he had gotten of their new found chums practically screamed corporate, and not average security goons, either. Big money, glossy equipment, and probably the tempering training you would expect from SpecOps units. That left them with very few feasible options, most of which involved getting the ever loving fuck out of that kill zone!

Movement in his peripheral was followed by a flash of light and the stench of burning ozone. The blonde elf had fired off a spell, a look of wrath etched across her features. Tam shuffled across the floor, and risked a peek around the edge of the bar. Everything was obscured by smoke, and he was quick to duck back behind cover. If they were equipped with infrared then such a ploy would do little good. He prayed not all of them were properly outfitted, but what were the odds that would be the case? He reached behind his back, fingers sliding into the grooves of his ergonomically designed pistol grips and tightening in a vice grip. Their usefulness was debatable at best, but they were better than nothing.

"Any plans?" Aphelion queried, her eyes settled straight ahead at the ruined shelves lining the cafe's rearmost wall. She felt entirely superfluous. Aside from her pistol, which now rested loosely in her hand, she had nothing. This was the sort of scenario she loathed. Tight quarters with all the gunfire aimed downstream at their heads. She needed cover, space to maneuver in, if she wanted to really flex her worth in a fight.

"Yeah," Tam huffed, risking another look, "'Don't get ventilated' would be number one." There came another blast of conjured electricity, this time from the dwarf. He was beginning to curse ignoring any latent talent he might have carried.

"Inspired." Aphelion lazily rolled her eyes. "Anything else?"

"Not really," he belatedly admitted. "That body armor looked properly thick, add on the sheer wall of munitions bearing down on us and we've got a 'you're fucked' cocktail."

"We wait for a pause and run?" Aphelion spared a look at the others. The blonde elf dashed out from cover, a move she considered fairly suicidal. She appeared to forget about it instantly, not that it had seemed to bother her much in the first place.

"That would be the one where we live, yes," Tam nodded. On second thought, he holstered one of his guns and fished out a frag grenade. He worked his mouth thoughtfully, pondering if it would even remotely assist, or just make things even worse. Another quick look revealed the smoke grenade's effects were fading fast.

Eris was suddenly on the both of them, hauling them up as she made a mad rush for the rear exit. Tam bit back his pride- silently wondering what Aphelion's thoughts on the matter were- and followed once he was on his feet. He clamped down on the grenade's pin with his teeth as he rose up, and chucked the live explosive in the general direction of the corporate assholes as a final farewell just before passing through the doorway.

The cold night air was disconcerting, and oddly comforting in a way. It felt like stepping into an entirely separate universe, but he kept after Eris with the others presumably on their heels. Aphelion tore past him, her arms slicing through the air like blades as she sprinted away. Their path made use of a U-Bahn track, and it seemed like they had made it home free. Or, he hoped as much. They eventually arrived at the entrance to what he assumed was the safehouse Eris had mentioned just before the night went to hell. However, apparently the sudden chaos had taken quite a toll on one of their compatriots. The cloaked man rounded on Eris with a fury. Just as Tam was suspecting that perhaps he was not quite as collected as a runner should have been, the man seemed to calm down considerably. The dwarf was having none of it, immediately turning on the man with accusations of her own.. although choosing to focus mainly on his poor choice of timing.

Touché, Tam shrugged internally.

Meanwhile, the blonde elf made her own attempt at settling the contretemps herself. Aphelion, lingering nearby, looked back over her shoulder, watching for any signs of trailing danger. As Tam suspected, the girl wanted little to do with the others' misgivings. Even if she had some of her own.

"Can't we all just wait to kill each other 'til we're safely tucked away, meine freunde?" Tam kept his tone even, and tried not to step on anyone's toes in particular. His philosophy dictated it was best if he potentially pissed off everybody in general. Divisions were never healthy, but he supposed they were to be expected this early, and after nearly getting geeked out of the blue. "I'm sure our fashionably dressed mates back there wouldn't have any qualms of beating us to it, should they catch us out in the cold." He tapped the barrel of his drawn weapon against his leg, a very minor tell displaying a niggling sense of impatience.
