Sentinel

A focused shaman sniper that aims to be there when things change, for good or for bad.

0 · 516 views · located in Berlin

a character in “Shadowrun: Rise of APEX”, as played by FrontierKnight

Description

Name: Sentinel

Age: 30

Metatype: Human

Sex: Male

Physical Description: Standing at 5'11", Sentinel has dark, long hair on the top of his head, with shaved sides. Hairstyles either left hanging or tied at the back. His ethnicity is Caucasian, with very strong features and recognisable face, as his piercing eyes often make an impression. Sen's build is athletic, however under clothing this would not be noticed.

Equipment: A sniper rifle is Sentinel's go to weapon in most cases, as front on confrontation is alien to him. However, a he does carry a pistol for backup situations. Aside from weapons, Sen wears a combination of urban combat gear and more contemporary fashion, resulting in an unusual blend that lets him be functional in many situations, if often looking slightly out of place.

Magic: Sentinel has grown up with the quiet and constant guidance of the Crow animal totem, leading him to learn helpful shamanistic magic to compliment his skills with a rifle. Spells like slowing a target's movement, effecting their actions and preventing coordination of enemy forces allow Sen to become a deadly force, as long as he has the firepower to back it up.

Personality: After the lifetime of Crow's words influencing him, Sen as become the personification of many of his totem's traits. Can come across as unsympathetic, and rather speaks his mind without thought of other's feelings. Always interested in those around him, Sen prides himself on his observational skills, listening even to the most mundane of conversations and happenings. Sen has often been thought of as cruel or even sadistic, as in conflicts his approach is to slowly whittle down his enemy, to exploit their weaknesses and strike when he knows he can finish them. To many this makes him unpopular, as he brings the same tactics to conversation, often without realising.

Bio: Born Shaun Fisher to thrill seeking UCAS parents that wanted less to do with him than their next fix, this young boy quickly fell into care of the state, then equally quickly to the belly of the underground of gangs, professionals, and shadowrunners. Though he often found himself several degrees from fatal danger, he survived doing whatever was useful to those around him. Before long Shaun Fisher was gone, becoming Sentinel as soon as he was old enough to familiarise himself with Shadowrunning. To those that knew him, he appeared to be in the right places at the right time until he could sustain himself independently. However this was not mere coincidence, he was not acting alone. As soon as he was magically aware, he was contacted by Crow, a spirit that either wanted to see him become more than he was, or simply experiment with an impressionable child. Either way, he listened, and Crow gave him the knowledge he needed to thrive. Crow, with all it's cunning and intelligence lived to observe and even cause great change in the world, with his one request of his new agent be that he fulfil these actions, be it good or bad, to be the watcher that is there the moment the world changes.

Much better. The weather was certainly more calm than when Sentinel stepped off the boat into the brisk German wind when he arrived a short while earlier, now things had settled down with the first signs of snow falling gracefully to the small area known as the Kreuzbazar, nestled within the flux state of Berlin. A most interesting place.

Sentinel, a Shadowrunner by trade, naturally followed the trail of money, the place where the jobs were, places such as this community that were ripe for the picking when it came to the corps. And he relished in it. The Kreuzbazar and other areas of Berlin had been the centre of conflict a number of years back, and like clockwork it Sen could tell it would soon be a gain.

Follow the money, follow the job, follow the conflict.

Although nothing appeared to be occurring, with the streets as serene as the weather that hung above them, this hotbed of culture and personality reeked of a million stories, from the cramped looking apartment buildings, to the stalls and shops that hugged their bases. They all said something, and Sen wanted to know more. For now however this lone Shadowrunner without a job or any contacts had to get settled in, get the lay of the land. He had been tipped by a previous contact who knew Berlin to help set him up with living arrangements and any runs, but for now he wanted to get to know Berlin. Arrangements at the port had left Sen's trusted equipment to arrive at a drop location at a later date, for now though, he was without anything, and so made his way to the highest point he could find to view the entirety of the Kreuzbazar.

Running his hand through his dark hair, now tied at the back, Sen exhaled slowly as he marvelled at the Berlin skyline, a cloud of warm breath escaping from his mouth into the biting cold air. Lighting up a cigarette and gently inhaling, Sentinel sat as his eyes darted from building to building. As he did so, a quiet expression of excitement grew across his face, finally focusing his gaze upon a small soykaf place below. He turned back to the skyline and focussed inward, calling to the magical spirit that aided him.

"You see that? With a little work, it's all gonna change" He confidently said before leaving his cigarette in his mouth and leaning back. "Or not" he mumbled through clenched lips, "Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy what's to come"

<January 13, 2087, 2036 hours, Kreuzbazar kiez, East Berlin>

Iris watched cautiously from the shadows as the the strange man arrived and looked out onto the city. She listened to him as he seemingly talked to himself. A smile curved her lips and she stepped into site, feeling that he wasn't a threat. Her hair was instantly caught by the soft wind that swirled around her.

"Beautiful site isn't it? The city all lit up as if a thousand fireflies were caught in time, unmoving but ever blinking. And when you look up at the stars, being where the lights of the city can't touch them, it's as if the night herself covered us in the folds of a soft warm blanket." she looked at him and giggled. "This is one of my favorite spots here, but it's ok, I'll share it with you. What brings you here anyway?" she asked.

Iris then pulled out a big blanket and wrapped it around herself and sat down, not quite beside him, but not super far away either. The smile never left her face and in her eyes was genuine happiness.

A cold and sharp feeling shook through Sentinel's back and neck. He could have sworn he was alone.

It was this place, these new shores had messed with him, dulled his senses. Sen cursed himself for allowing this to happen, for all he knew he could be dead if anyone here was out to get him. As soon as the immediate shock had sunk in, Sen began to process what was happening, slowly lowering his clenched hand on to his lap. Standing up and turning around, he found that the voice had come from a light haired elven woman. Makes sense, elves were often one's for conversation, then again, the one's that talked too much tended not to live too long on a run.

Finally coming back to reality, Sentinel relaxed and removed his cigarette from his mouth, billowing smoke into the air above. His eyes fixed upon this stranger and he eventually responded. "Beautiful?" he said inquisitively. "I'd never thought about it that way". Upon inspection of the woman, Sen lowered his guard. She didn't even look like a woman at all, more a girl according to the way she presented herself, but he had to admit she was fairly striking.

He sat back down, staring out again. "A city, or even a country run by a corp is as ugly as one controlled by the people" he stated as he took another smoke before discarding it for good. "But a place like this, the flux-state? I suppose, if anything, that is beauty" Without realising that he'd completely disregarded that this girl was referring to the view, Sen frowned and shifted to face her.

"Who the hell are you anyway?"

Iris giggled and looked up at him. She listened intently as he spoke, her eyes slightly glowing. "I suppose that since I startled you I can at least give you my name. I'll have you know though, I'm no one special. The name is Iris." she then turned back to the view and leaned against the wall, watching as the smoke from his cigarette billowed upwards.

"So, I have answered your question, and I shall return it. Who might you be? I have yet to see your face around town and especially around here. Are you new? Where are you from? Is it beautiful? Oh, I have gotten ahead of myself I should let you answer first." she said giggling, though it was cut short as some of the smoke drifted into her nose and she coughed. "You know that is a very nasty habit." she added waving away.

She watched him after that, to see his answer. She was very intrigued by him, for some reason wanting to know more about him. Then she wondered if he could tell she was older than him, as elvish people did not age the same as others. Maybe he viewed her as everyone else did. A helpless little girl incapable of protecting herself. She wrinkled her nose at the though and brought her thoughts in so she could pay attention to his answers.

This one did indeed like to talk.

The barrage of questions shot from this elf would have overwhelmed many people, but Sentinel sat as they bounced off of his mind all at once, ricocheting off into the night air. Sen listened, but he didn't hear, or didn't choose to, the only query that he singled out was the one asking of his identity. "Do I answer?" he pondered, rolling the options in his head. It was true that he had asked who she was, and common courtesy dictated he return the favour, although Sentinel and common courtesy were never good frends most of the time, even as passing acquaintances, they would scowl at each other from across a room. No, Sen had no time for manners, but without thinking he let slip his name anyway, perhaps a side effect of his early days in the shadows, when being known by the right people got you on the best runs, with the best equipment.

"Sentinel" he answered carelessly and emotionless. Well, now that was out he would at least get a glimpse of what this Iris' game was. It was unlikely that anyone here had heard of him, and even more unlikely still that she was corporate, not in a place like this. Even so, who approaches lonesome strangers on their own, either this elf was naive, or she knew that she could handle most drekheads who would try to start something. One on one conversations left no room for analysis, before you know it they've stopped speaking and you're expected to speak, like an awkward dance with words that ends when both parties are exhausted rather than when one has got what they needed.

Sen certainly felt like she was pressing, but why? In his experience no one talks because they are interested, but because they want something, and he couldn't for the life of him work out the elf's motives. Finally Sen did the only thing he knew to in this situation, go on the defensive. As he was about to speak up and interrogate this girl, Sen got a message on his comm.

His gear had arrived.

It was as good an excuse as any to leave this line of questioning. Sentinel jumped up and scanned the area, "I have to go" he declared. The drop that he had arranged when he arrived was sitting behind a bench outside a cafe nearby, and Sen was eager to retrieve it, lest he get the offer for a run, and have to empty his already dwindling credstick buying new equipment. Finally he looked at this Iris, still unsure of what she wanted. "I didn't answer your questions" he stated, obliviously leaving out any sort of apology, "do you know anyone offering work?" he paused, "you know, more dangerous work than the usual". He attempted to hint, assuming she wasn't any sort of spy or danger, and hoping she would at least know of any shadowrunners or Johnsons in the area.

Sentinel, hmm a nice name. I wonder if there is someone else our there named the same? she thought then brought herself back hearing his question. She did indeed notice he didn't answer any of her questions and that intrigued her more but also put her on guard. Looking up at him she stood up and folded her blanket, she kept her mind quiet as she did so. She decided to test his patience for an answer. Walking over to where she was previously hidden she revealed a small wood chest. Opening it she placed her blanket inside on top of a couple other things. The majority of it being fascinating drawings of her own creation.

She pulled out a backpack and began stuffing a couple of things in it. An apple, sketch pad, pencils and a small thing of perfume, that was unused. After doing all these tasks in a quick manor she turned back to Sentinel, speaking her mind, "Well Mr. Sentinel, I don't know anyone in that particular field personally, but I do know of a hang out where a couple might be. That is if you trust me enough to follow. I will say this once, and once only. I'm a very curious person, I'm unafraid to speak my mind, and I'm quick to anger. Your lack of answering a couple questions intrigues me as well as put me on guard. These are trying times, and I intend to live through them. Now should we get going?"

Iris looked up slightly at him again, realizing he was only an inch taller. The fire in her eyes was glowing brightly on the rooftop of the tall building they were on. The wind was blowing harder now, up here in this little bubble all but cut off from the rest of the city except for those brave enough to climb it. Her hair was drifting behind her, and in this moment she looked strong, capable of anything if she so chose, or at leas that was the image she hoped she was creating. She stood waiting in his response, she was very still, ready for anything.

Success? Sen's question was more of a gambit, and so he was pleasantly surprised to get any information. Sen gave his acknowledgement by a subtle nod, in a way of appreciation while also as a confirmation for Iris to show him the way. "I have to make a stop, I trust it's on the way" he expressed, already walking towards the cafe.

-----

At ground level, the Kreuzbasar was an incredibly distinct place, certainly different from above, more... cluttered. The compact nature of the streets was a breeding ground for culture, community and all the things in between. Sentinel made his way through the stalls and shops, swerving past the occasional local and manoeuvring through the dense urban sprawl towards his gear. Finally he made it to the cafe, unaware if his new elf acquaintance was even still around. Studying the area, he spied the drop location, reaching behind to retrieve a bag. Checking the contents, he was relieved to see his Walther MA-2100 rifle separated into pieces, nestled among his Black Scorpion pistol and a few fetishes.

His rifle had been with him through many runs, and had seen almost as much action as Sen had. A few years ago, it had been instrumental in saving a run from certain doom. Sen put his hand in the bag to hold and examine some of the items, remembering clearly the events. Awkwardly laying in his cramped vantage point, slowly scanning the Seattle sprawl, Sentinel eyed his target. Whatever this guy did to piss off whoever hired the team was long forgotten, yet Sen could still remember the feeling of the wind from the dilapidated floor of the unfinished building he was perched in, the metal of the rifle cold to the touch, it's icy barrel laying against his outstretched thigh as he lay in wait.

The other runners were in position by that point, ready to leave with the newly acquired paydata. The last thing in place however was this guy, this drekhead in the most difficult to reach place, with little chance of a clean double tap kill from Sen, let alone a attempt from the team on the ground. Luck wasn't on their side that day, with the security quickly discovering the team, a firefight ensued and the target hastily ran to safety. They were about to pull out, leave with whoever was still alive and hope to escape with their tails between their legs.

But then Sentinel heard it. The voice inside, the force beyond, his totem told him to wait, Crow wanted to see this done. So he waited, he waited for the events to line up perfectly, his magic endowing him with a perfect shot over hundreds of yards. The poor guy didn't even know what hit him, specifically it was a bullet, entered center mass and put him on his back to bleed out in no time at all, but he didn't know that. An inferior weapon may have let Sen down that day, but this rifle had assisted him more times than he could count.

He came back to reality with the sharp zip of the bag closing. He slung it over his back and moved back to the entrance of the cafe once more.

Iris followed Sen to the spot he said he needed to pick something up. The walk was quiet so she herself stayed quiet. Seeing Sen was lost in though she felt it was better to walk in silence and let him think then to not let him think. As they walked she was constantly watching windows and doors as well as around them. She felt that with people disappearing one could not be too careful. When they finally reached their destination she was surprised to see that they were at the cafe. She peered inside to have a look at who all was in, and noticed a few new people.

The sound of an unzipping bag drew her attention back to Sen. Iris froze , giving a small indistinct squeak when she saw the gun in Sen's bag. Fear was deep in her eyes and she had to strain herself from stepping back. Her breathing and heartbeat increased and she clutched her backpack tightly.

"Umm, c-could you maybe n-not pull those out around me?" she asked her voice wavering. Her body shook as if she were cold, but this was not the case. She looked back over to the cafe. "C-come on, here is the place. L-lets go in and get us something to warm our stomachs ok?" She added then walked off, leaving him to decide if he wanted to follow or not.

With his equipment in tow, Sentinel could now get down to the business he came to Germany for, hopefully find a run and let everything else Crow would want slide into place. Iris' reaction to the contents of the bag however was strange, and had elevated Sen's interest in her since first meeting, for someone living in as dangerous an area as this, her skittish reaction to a gun was odd, especially to his eyes. Although previously regarding her as someone of unimportance, Sen became intrigued as to her past experiences, with his trouble pinning down her motives serving only to escalate his interest.

For the second time that day, a smile inched it's way onto Sentinel's face. Maybe he did want to stick around this girl for a little while longer. Iris wandered into the cafe, announcing, by a stroke of good fortune, that they were already at the place she agreed to lead him to, meanwhile Sen instinctively followed, his mind racing at the thoughts of who else he might encounter with secrets buried beneath the surface.

The scent of it all was the first thing to hit you entering the cafe. It must have been, real coffee. Certainly an unusual smell, ever since the soy substitute mostly replaced it, but welcome nonetheless, carrying with it the feeling of a thousand sleepless nights and countless groggy mornings. The layout of the place was certainly homely, much like the rest of the Kreuzbasar, the charm of the owner and patrons permeated the space, immediately giving it a unique atmosphere.

"A popular meeting spot?" Sen asked, turning his head to Iris, yet his eyes never stopped darting to the newest piece of information around them. It seemed as if he knew the answer to his question already, as a number of curious characters could be spotted even from the entrance.

Iris never really kept her eye's off Sen's bag for too long of a time, trying to keep a small distance from it. As she was busy doing this she almost didn't notice when he asked her a question. Shacking her head to clear her thoughts she looked at him again and smiled.

"Yep, sure is. A lot of different people visit her, though anyone who doesn't see things like we do has yet to visit us. I don't think they would last long if they did." she replied and beckoned for him to follow her to a small booth. Sitting down she smiled and waved at the Turk behind the bar and he smiled back. She then pulled her backpack up with her sitting it beside her.

She had been her a lot but for the life of her she still couldn't rember his name. She then reached into her backpack and pulled out a sketch pad and her art utensils. As she sat there she began making the outlining of a tree she had a dream of, seemingly oblivious to others though she tilted her head slightly at Sen to let him know she was listening.

Though it grieved him, what for the lack of heat, Tam continued sipping the rest of his soykaf in a perturbed silence. Something was clearly working its way around his mind, and it left deep footprints in its wake. His eyes were vaguely narrowed, a flicker of consternation deep within them, and the corners of his mouth were settled resolutely in a frown. The negative change in his humor felt much like a ghost had just passed through him, leaving its sepulchral taint behind to seep into his bones and weigh on every line across his face. He stared pensively into the last dregs of soykaf lingering at the bottom of the cup, a dim reflection looking back. He tilted his head, imagining there was a trace of reproof in the glassy return gaze.

"How does she manage to ruin a night like that?" He pondered, wearily rubbing at his eyes. His foul state had begun the moment Tam heard her voice, and he was more than willing to lay the blame on their fixer.

Aphelion was still engrossed in her cup of coffee, enjoying every sip of the full body roast. "You're the one fixating," she mumbled in reminder. It was a very gentle stab that served to draw only mere droplets of blood. She had a habit of sharpening her tongue for only the most precise cuts.

Tam found her subtlety rather infuriating, at times. He sneered at her. "I've a feeling you're implicating me in something, and I don't know why..."

"Your suspicions are acknowledged." She casually skirted his sally, the same way she wove her way through a fight: With chilling fluency and self possession.

He raised an accusatory finger. "It doesn't help much when-" His attention was ripped elsewhere by movement from the other end of the bar. His finger curled slowly back into his fist, eyes shifting a hair aside. The fiery haired dwarf was getting up from her seat - in a manner of speaking. The uncouth thought brought a very thin smile to his very slender lips. As he started deliberating on continuing his abruptly ended remark to Aphelion, the cafe door swung open. Tam twisted in his seat for a glimpse of the new arrivals, trying to make his inspection seem casual. In a manner, it was. He had no intention of leering, unadorned served curiosity as his primary motivation.

It was another pair, a man and woman. The former was a rugged looking, dour individual. Even at a glance he appeared the type to have seen some action in his time. His companion was an absolute flower of an elf. Delicate features and radiant, stunning beauty. An interesting, if unassuming enough pair. In a sense. To him, it was not immediately something that stood out. As individuals, that was another story. About the same time, a man who had been sitting in the back moved up to the bar, sitting near the elf - the rigger - who had remained. Tam slowly turned back around, not wanting to suddenly make himself notable because of moving too quickly, either. Nonchalance was something of an art form. It was all too easy to mark a person based on their movements. Linger too long, or not enough, and you were more prone to being noticed. The best way to keep in the shadows, even when the lights were on, was to measure every action.

"The place is.. filling up," he muttered to his partner, running a fingertip around the rim of his cup. The urging was all in his tone. Maybe it was time they start making ready to leave.

"Popular venue," Aphelion blandly commented. She left any and all situational appraising to her partner. "Why rush?"

"Why, indeed." Tam started chewing on his bottom lip, contemplating ordering another soykaf to pass the time until the girl decided to finally finish her own drink. Imagine his surprise when a voice broke his concentration, dragging his attention over to the elf with the drone. It would appear their play at subtlety was effectively ended, and with a fairly brutal downward stroke to boot. He took the hail as an excuse for a more comprehensive sizing up of the woman. He could not explain it, but for some reason she struck him as being oddly familiar. Maybe someone he had met once upon a time in his youth? He doubted that only seconds later, she looked too young for him to have known before leaving the F-State.

Given the current state of things in Berlin, and his own predispositions regarding other runners, Tam decided to play coy. To test the waters, as it were. "Are we now, chummer?" He asked, smiling broadly at her. "Well, isn't that a thing to marvel at. Which do you mean, precisely? My friend here is an exporter."

Aphelion mechanically joined in, not looking at the girl. "He's my accountant."

Tam held his arms out, palms skyward, and gave the elf an embellished shrug. "Either way, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't join you. As fragging cold as it is, a little more company might help keep things warm." He stood up after downing the rest of his soykaf, and tossed the last of his pocket change onto the bar for Burakgazi to take. It looked like he actually could use another drink. With a bit of swagger in his step, Tam relocated to a closer seat.

Aphelion exhaled almost silently into her mug, lazily following along behind her partner. It looked more like she was being dragged along by a rope. Only after she sat down did she finally look at the elf, and even then it was nothing more than a fleeting glance. Her internal alarms were going off, and she was ready for any reason to draw her weapon.

"So, was there anything in particular on your mind?" Tam queried gingerly, masking his own observations under the guise of a placid smirk. "Or did you fancy just shooting the breeze with a few strangers?" An edge of skepticism carved its way into his voice, adding a bitter rumble to his otherwise genial timbre. Nothing that could possibly be perceived as threatening, just a gentle message that he was most definitely on guard.

"Huh...an exporter and her accountant, eh? The trade routes must be particularly dangerous of late, what with all that heat you two're packing," Eris says with a raised brow and the ghost of a smirk. It's clear by her tone that she's not buying a word of it. "My new friend here," she says, gesturing to Brandon, "is a very successful investor. I, myself, am a private security contractor, currently out of work and looking to start my own business. We could always use an exporter to deliver our product and that, and one can never have too many accountants, I always say. I believe our intentions may intertwine rather nicely."
There's a pause as she finishes off her last soykaf, and gestures at the Turk for a third. "In any case," she continues, that half-smirk never leaving her face, "there's no need to be so tense. We're just having a nice chat is all. You two look like you're wound up tighter than durasteel twine."

Despite her rather verbose greeting, she certainly takes notice of the two new folk entering the cafe, viewing them through her drone's optics, immediately recognising a familiar face in Iris, and immediately registering an unfamiliar one. The way the man carries himself would suggest a resolute disposition, if not a particularly kind one. She makes a mental note to keep track of him. Iris was a native of the Kreuzbasar, and had lived there for most of her life. She still maintained her innocence, and Eris guessed she was hardly careful enough not to get involved with the more dangerous anarchists. However, the man could prove to be useful. Strong, violent people would be needed greatly in the next few weeks.

She turns her attention back to her group, smiling brightly. "Can I get you three a soykaf on me? Perhaps a toffee?" she asks, leaning up against the bar and crossing her legs, her position and tone suggesting the utmost relaxedness, contrasting greatly with Aphelion's tense disposition.

Brandon smirks when Eris mentions him as an investor, though back in the day his family were not far from that. But now that he was more of an hands on worker with his families duties, the consideration was far beyond shadowed doubt. Eris herself was being a rather talkative sort with everyone in the building and that thought crossed his mind, the small PDA rumbles as he gets a text on the other end. It was a simple link out of the chat channel, nothing but an underlined phrase that said Drink Me.

Pressing the link pulled him from that chat room and into another off the usual net lines where he encountered another person on the forum. "Well Bandon, its good to see that your back so early. He sighed a moment before typing back. "Actually, if its any measure; The meeting was a cross, Oscar is dead, so is the agent and I recently just ditched a hit squad... nice coffee though." There was a small moment of no contact after that, save for a descriptive .... that followed Brandon's text.

He motions towards Eris for the time being "If its any consolation, I am not entirely an investor. However I am always on the lookout for an opportunity to make some more money."

The cafe had seemingly been taken over by this new, yet familiar atmosphere. Sitting on the far side of the room, Sentinel recognised what was going on, he had seen it many times before, and he most certainly wasn't going to miss out on it. The "it" being the set up, the hiring, the beginnings of a shadowrun. What made it intriguing however was the unorthodox nature of it all, the girl getting everyone's attention surely wasn't a Johnson, so whatever run was being planned surely won't be attached to any corporation, or at least be distantly associated with one.

That may actually be a good thing, less chance of a big payday, sure, but fewer repercussions if things go awry and certain steps have to be taken... more room to breath.

Without taking his eyes off of the group that had formed, Sen gripped the edge of his seat and began to stand up, unable to dismiss the warm grin on his face, or at least warm by his standards. "Looks like some work is available, you should join in too" he said as he left Iris, without even turning to face her. Approaching the area where several unique individuals were now conversing, Sen stood resolute, his hands by his sides, giving completely open body language. Although his smile had not gone, it lessened as he spoke.

"I want in" He stated, resting his eyes on the elf at the center. "I can tell what's going on here, and I want to be a part of it, and from the looks of it..." he surveyed the cafe noting the otherwise ordinary patrons, his grin returning.

"You're scouting for outside help"

Aphelion's neck twisted a fraction, her head turned toward the girl - the elf who had invited them over - regarding her with only partially concealed suspicion, and an infinitesimal trace of respect. She certainly was not one to be overly covert, now was she? By her personal standards, Aphelion considered this to be rather brazen. About as brash as severing someone's head as opposed to going for a lethal plunge through the torso. Less spray that way. Despite not being the chatty one of her duo, she ruminated on the girl's words, keeping her ears only mildly keened for anything else that might warrant her attention. Such as somebody moving nearer, or a new customer entering the cafe.

Chumming it up with a new team was risky, but potentially rewarding. Larger groups meant a broader spectrum of talents, more to fit deal with unforeseen or potential threats. Neither she nor Tam were any good with a deck, and the latter had little interest in magic. He preferred the flashiness and art of precise kills with his pistols. A kind of wannabe Sixth Wold gunfighter, minus a terribly tragic modernized cowboy hat. While strength in numbers had its benefits, they did not know these people. They could be playing them, that was something she would not allow herself to ignore. It certainly had passed through her partner's head, she knew how Tam worked and had already seen it in his eyes and body language. He was sizing the younger elf up in turn. Aphelion admitted she was paranoid, possibly by necessity, but even still...

She stared evenly into her coffee, not betraying any of this internal warfare through any tightening of muscles or sharp, erratic movements. She was relaxed, placid even. Her face gave no secrets to what coursed across her brain. Things had been slow lately. Jobs were getting scarce, good runs were almost extinct. They'd been forced to take a lot of milk runs just to keep any kind of nuyen flowing into their pockets, and the only sizable pay had come from disproportionately risky runs considering there was only two of them. Because of her nature, Aphelion was usually averse to hiring on other runners for one time jobs. Tam was good at handling their funds, which was where the joke had come from. It was nothing new to hear him referring to himself as such. She did tend to be less frugal than her friend.

Her ears picked up the sound of footfalls approaching, and she adjusted the way her head was leaned, tilting even further to one side. The man who had come in with the dainty elf girl was walking right up to their newest.. associate.. and immediately revealed he wanted in on whatever was going down. She lifted her mug for a drink, the ceramic lingering against her lips as the slowly cooling liquid ran down her throat. Setting the mug down softly onto the bar, she laid her hands flat against the wood and finally decided to make herself known as more than Tam's companion. She was the one in charge of her two person team, not just its sword.

Her voice sounded a bit rough when she talked, like it was dragging very faintly against her throat- a palpable presence that sought to hold on, rather than being sent to dissipate into the air. "You're looking to make something interesting, I hope. Something worth our time." She raised her head, eyes even higher, all the way to the ceiling. "Assuming you're not just setting us up." The bluntness was entirely on purpose. She was to poke, to prod, to see if she could glean anything from this girl. She could never be too sure. Not ever.

Tam thumped the bar irritably, drawing her stare.

It was disinterested.

The elf's lips twisted into a weak grimace, and his eyes sharpened. "You really haven't an ounce of people skills, do you?" He hissed at her. Clicking his tongue, Tam swung back around and smiled. It looked forced, almost plastic. Empty. "Don't mind her, she's an incurable pessimist."

"You're exaggerating." Aphelion coolly responded, now looking off into space once more.

Tam's expression faded to a dull glare aimed at the wall. Thoughts ran through his head like cram through a junkie's veins, swiftly and doing very little one could ultimately call "good". He shook himself and sighed, fixing his attention on the elf again. "Basically, we're interested. I'm not sure if you've exactly hooked the both of us just yet," he glanced over his shoulder, "But if you've got a proposal, we're definitely in the market to..." He looked sidelong shortly, holding his hands apart as he chose the next words, "Branch out."

Aphelion raised her mug. "That was terrible."

"You're not exactly helping!" Tam snapped, his teeth clenched.

Hanging her head to the right, Aphelion took a deep breath to steady her nerves. They had not always been like this, but ever since coming to Berlin it had been a steady evolution - or possibly devolution, if you wanted to look at it from that angle. Deciding to settle the matter, her eyes jumped to the girl. "We're in."

Iris looked around finally noticing everyone around her. Soon she spotted Eris, the only familiar face around here though she didn't know her personally. This was starting to get dangerous and she had the distinct urge to run. Standing up slowly she stayed rooted to the spot. As Eris had been around awhile, she considered her on of her own, part of her city's lifeblood. She had a feeling that something could go wrong here and for her, taking care of her own was just as important as taking care of herself.

She stood up more confidently and strode over spar to Eris. Blue sparks started swimming over her hands, though only noticeable if you had a fast enough eye to see them. Looking up at Eris on the stool, she spoke, her voice as bubbly as ever. "You know, you're part of this city, if you need help, I suggest you take someone you know will watch your back. As most of these people are strangers to our city, I don't mind coming along to help you in whatever you are needing help with.I may not be much help, but I'll be help none the less." smiling brightly she took a seat beside Eris, her eyes twinkling.

Sentinel shuffled slightly and extended his arm to grab a nearby stool. In a swift motion he dragged it along the floor, sweeping it through his legs, perching himself upon it, in an attempt to join the ever growing cluster of bodies filling up the relatively small cafe. Spying Iris taking a seat next to the elf girl, Sen felt relieved. He knew Iris was this delicate flower on the surface, but he couldn't shake the prospect that she could be more underneath, that it could be all a ruse, or like a suit she wore to the rest of the world to hide this mystery of a person beneath. Mysteries set Sen on edge, and excited him at the same time, shooting through him a giddiness that he seldom experienced. Craning his neck to survey the other members of this troop he could tell the mysteries would only keep on coming.

Sen inhaled slowly through his nose as he scanned this new crowd, leaning back as he did so like an artist pleased with his work. The stupid grin wouldn't leave either, plastered to his face like a stain on a white shirt, it wouldn't leave until he stopped contemplating the many stories and talents these individuals held. The first to speak was the human woman, who looked like she travelled with the elf at the bar. Now, this one... Sen thought as he focused on her. She appeared blunt and brief, not that Sen in his tactless nature would have had concern with, but it nonetheless stuck out to him.

Paying less attention to what she actually said, and paying more to her profile and the way she presented herself, Sentinel was intrigued as to why she seemed so cold, with a thousand yard stare that shot through the elf girl she was addressing.

He was about to ask her directly, when her partner interjected with a comment.

Sen burst out in a quick, yet fairly loud chuckle at the dynamic between the two of them, his hand giving a sharp tap on the edge of the his stool before composing himself and facing the rest of the group.

"This cements it" he squawked, raising a fist with an outstretched thumb and motioning towards the duo. "If these two are in, I definitely am"

Finally Sen had had his fill, he knew Crow would want to see results eventually, she surely wasn't one to enjoy waiting, and certainly not feeling out of control. Whatever operation this would turn out to be, he almost felt like he needed to start it soon.

"We do need to know the details of this run, I'm not going in dark" he stated, perhaps wearing the most serious of faces so far today.

Brandon raises his coffee up to his lips once more and take another sip of the brew before placing his cup on the counter and looked back at the others over Eris's shoulder. "Now lets be honest about this, there is not a good chance this could be all good. Over half a dozen runners meeting at a hole in the wall shop, can't really expect such a good turn out... can we? The PDA buzzes for a moment before he sends another message on the other line "Working a lead, will contact you again soon." That prompted the host of the room to close its operations, the signaling image of a white rabbit racing across the screen was the last he saw of his contact.

He stands and looks at the whole group again.
"Lets get this straight, I for one am all for it.. hell I will even help finance it. Seeing as I just came into some extra scratch recently." He shrugs a moment before adjusting his stance and sliding the PDA into his coat pocket. He winces a bit as he rotates his right arm forward and then again when it rotates back. He finally starts to fish under his arm with his other hand as he speaks.

"All I'm suggesting is a change of scenoriy before plans go down and maybe a chance.. to.." He shifts his weight one moment before pulling a lodge round out of his body armor and dropping it in the empty glass next to his coffee. "At least get ourselves sorted once more.. maybe a quick change of clothes. If its not too much to ask?"

Redcap had been trying to flag down the bartender for several minutes- a task which seemed more difficult now than it had been when she'd had the shop to herself. She supposed she was easily missed among the taller heads, colorful tattoos not withstanding. She hunched over the bar gritting her teeth before looking over at the group which had grown around her potential benefactor. That girl certainly had a way about her, didn't she. Redcap hadn't been gone five minutes and already the woman had assembled what was probably not the largest group Redcap had ever had the opportunity to work with, but definitely one which ranked in her top five.

She looked over those gathered, trying to pick what she could off their appearance. Most looked standard runner stock (if you could call any runner "standard"), with the exception of one girl who frankly looked a bit lost, but a good team overall. None of them had yet acknowledged her presence as far as she could tell, which Redcap hoped was possibly a good sign. She couldn't help noticing how many elves were amongst them; she didn't think she'd been this close to this many since... well. In a while.

She hopped down off the barstool and shuffled over to join them when a couple of the men asked about details. She'd gotten nought but bones when she'd spoken with Eris, so if the other two had better luck she'd like to be around to hear it. She slapped lightly at the leg of the bearded human, jerking her head to one side in a way which conveyed that she would like him to hop off the stool. She must be shoulder-height for group conversations, damn it.
