Two men followed Robin toward the center of town where a large bonfire pit had been dug. People began to gather around them, which wasn't unusual when men returned from the hunt.
"Brought dinner, curtesy of His Majesty," Robin said with a cheeky grin as he cast a line of dead hares onto the ground. People began to cheer even as one of the men accompanying Robin set the body of a stag next to them. Two butchers quickly began to set to work on cleaning the animals and Robin looked around proudly. His own little empire right here in the middle of the King's Forest.
"It won't be enough," a rolling accent said from Robin's left. He turned, already knowing the look on Kate's face. The tall ebony skinned woman with emerald eyes was frowning so deeply there were lines on her face. "Six rabbits and a deer won't feed sixty people," she said in her thick voice.
"I know," Robin said in response. "It's never enough, but something is better than nothing."
"We need to send a party into town to purchase bread and vegetables. God willing we can even manage a piece of fruit. Elaina's youngest son came down with scurvy last night." Robin nodded. The fate of everyone in Sherwood Village plagued him as though their fate were his own. It was a heavy burden.
"I'll see what I can conjure up. Will is always good for a visit to town. We'll need to keep the party small or Nottingham's men will knwo something is up."
"And how do you expect to pay for this food?" Kate asked placing her hands on her hips. The arrogent and mischevious smile returned to Robin's face?"
"Pay?" he asked. "My dear Kate...who said anything about paying?" Kate rolled her eyes.
"You're a good man Robin of Locksely, but you'll burn in hell for all this thieving and murdering you've done." Robin took her hand and kissed the back of it.
"Ah but Kate you forget, I've been to hell already and wouldn't you know...all the rooms were filled. Perhaps once there is a vacancy." Kate couldn't help the small laugh and she pushed Robin's shoulder.
"Never mind you, I've got work to do, and you've got food to buy," she called even as Robin was already walking away.

Marian jumped, startled from her daydreaming from one of her maids. She blinked, placing her embroidery on the floor. "Why, yes, I'm just a little tired. I heard about those wretched outlaws, it kept me up last night. This house will be there next target, I'm sure of it." The lie flowed easily from Marian's lips as she rose from her chair. "I think I'll go for a rest in my chambers. It might freshen me up a little. Please, don't disturb me."
"Yes m'lady." The maid gave a small smile. The Lady Marian hadn't really been the same after Robin of Locksley left. Always tired, always distracted, always out of sorts when the subject of courting was brought up. Mary shook her head. She could only pray that her Lady could find happiness.
In her room, Marian toyed with the Night Watchman's mask for a few moments. It was daylight, but she'd received word that Robin had sick children to content with. She had plenty of food, and the outlaws would indeed target the house. Getting Robin and his men in and out, without anybody seeing, or noticing that a sizable amount of food was incredibly difficult. Best if the Night Watchman were to deliver it by hand, right? Tying her hair back from her face, and securing it with a few clips, Marian pulled on the mask, pulled up her hood and jumped out the window. Her horse already had some fruit and vegetables in it's saddle bags, not enough to feed all of Robin's men, but certainly enough for his sick. Praying nobody saw her, the Night Watchman galloped at full pace towards the forest. She knew the way to Robin's camp now, a difficult journey that often required to get off the horse and lead it through some perilous patches of forest floor. The pitch black horse also seemed to recognize the trail, snickering and surging ahead as Robin's camp came into sight.
The Watchman was famous for being silent, even when wounded. Marian knew she safe here, but she didn't pull off her mask or call out to Robin. The sheriff was not above spies, and Marian could not live in the forest. She wouldn't.
Marian dismounted from her horse, keeping the reins in her hands, looking around for the living ghost. Robin was with the beautiful Kate. Ignoring the small twist of her gut, she continued towards the pair, only then removing her mask, and revealing her face.
"Robin, Kate. I heard some people have fallen ill here. I've brought some supplies, there isn't much, but it's the most I could get from the house without being noticed.

"Marian!" he exclaimed in a harsh whisper. "What are you doing here? You should not have come. If the Sherrif were to have any scouts patroling the woods, they would surely recognize you. Or at least your horse. Then it would only be a matter of time before they tracked him back to you and then-"
"What Robin means to say," Kate interupted. "Is that he is happy to see you." Giving Marian a small wink she took the reins from her. "I will tend your horse and see to getting those supplies to the young ones." Robin watched Kate leave before turning back to Marian.
He scratched at his thin beard. He realized then what a mess he probably looked. Spending two nights in the woods hunting, he hadn't bathed or shaven since he left.
"Since you're here," he said returning to his normal, friendly, tone of voice. "You'll at least stay for dinner. I was about to walk to the creek and wash up. Care to join me?"

Kate interrupted and with a smile and a small wink, offered to take Marian's horse and divide out the supplies to the children. Marian thanked her, before turning back to Robin.
"If I thought the sheriff was sending men after either one of us, I wouldn't have come, now, would I? Besides, I've put measures in place to ensure that the Night Watchman's identity is not revealed. Keep your men safe, and it will make it less likely that I'll be forced to put those measures into place. Believe it or not, Robin of Locksley, I can take care of myself."
Some things didn't change. A brief flash of memory, and Marian found herself in a much simpler time. The year before Robin left, there had been a good summer. They'd disappeared into the forest on a day like today, and as evening grew closer, and a fire was lit to keep them warm, Robin began to brag about himself. Marian laughed, pushing him playfully, and curtly informed him that was capable of looking after herself. Not a word of it was true. She'd lain her head on Robin's shoulder, and woke up the next morning in her own bed. When she'd fallen asleep, Robin carried her back home...
Marian shook the memory from her head, completely alert again. It was all in the past now. Things had changed.
"You'll at least stay for dinner. I was about to walk to the creek and wash up. Care to join me?"
Marian felt a smile cross her lips. "The creek? Wouldn't that leave us both a little...vulnerable? I thought you wanted to reduce to risk of me getting recognized."

"What? You won't walk with me to the creek? I thought you said you could take care of yourself." He arched an eyebrow and crossed his arms in a mocking manner. "Not to fear, Marian. I'll protect you should any danger arise," he goaded. Yes, Robin was good at many things: archery, woodwork, tracking the footprints of rabbits. But what he truly excelled at, was getting under Marian's skin.
