It wasn’t when she felt him moving her legs onto his lap that made her look up and instantly go pink. Jessica looked at him, a bit shocked and with all of these thoughts racing through her head; no good could come of anything like this.
"I don't think that's what you want."
Well, not at the moment. God, would that voice just shut up? She looked up at his face, her eyes finally meeting his as he became a bit serious; though, she was instantly distracted with his hands on her lap. Kind of hard to think about things when your mind is telling you to do one thing and the person outside of your head is complying with it.
"Jess..you're acting..weird. What's wrong?"

You might as well give up and tell him- he already knows something is off thanks to your ignorant actions. If he’s a man, he’ll comply. That last thought gave her a bitter taste in her mouth; it made Jessica angry with herself that she was even thinking about that- but at the moment, she was completely occupied to punish herself.
“Tell me or..I'm going to have to force it out of you. Well?"
Another strew of graphic pictures fluttered into her mind and in an instant, she was underneath him, his legs on either side of her hips. Oh yeah, that was going to help. Jessica stared up at him, her face slowly becoming redder.

Like a cornered cat, Jessica just sat there, staring at him; her eyes searching his face as her mouth was partially opened in shock that she was still even in this position.
“I-I” She stuttered, now trying to move a little bit, looking away from him. Suddenly, Jessica’s body jolted up, her head slamming into his with so much force, it sent back down on the couch, grabbing her head in pain; jarring all of those thoughts out of her head through a nosebleed.
“Ah!” She yelped, her eyes squeezing close as a line of blood trickled passed her nose and onto her cheek.

He continued to watch her as she looked up at him. “I-I” She stuttered, looking away from him. Then, suddenly, her body moved up and he'd not been expecting it. Her head hit his with great force. He immediately moved backward from the hit. He quickly checked his nose, glad to see that he wasn't bleeding. “Ah!” The sound of Jess's cry forced him to look back down at her. Her nose was bleeding. He gently moved her head, so that the nosebleed could hopefully stop fairly quickly. He then got off of the young woman and headed into the kitchen. He quickly grabbed a towel and wet it on one end. He then made his way back to his friend. He was happy to see that the nosebleed had stopped. Though his head was hurting, he was more concerned for Jess at the moment.

Darrin began gently cleaning up her face. He took great care not to cause her any pain. "What was that about?" He asked, a laugh upon his voice. "You are really starting to make me think you're out to get me." When he finished cleaning her up, Darrin rose and left her for a moment. He took the towel to the laundry room and put it in the hamper. He then made his way back to Jess. He joined her once again, though this time sitting. "You still haven't told me.." He gently took her hand, looking at her with worry. He then gently placed his free hand upon her cheek, his thumb stroking her soft skin.

He had no idea why she'd risen up in such a way. It made no sense to him. He was worried about her and he was certain it was clear upon his face. He wasn't about to drop the subject, no matter what she did. Though she was determined to help him, he, too, wished to help..her. He couldn't stand seeing her acting so oddly. It wasn't like her.

Jessica cringed in pain as she stayed there, feeling the pressure slowly rise off of her but quickly return, causing her eyes to open when she felt a wet, warm towel press to her nose. Boy, she felt bad. She’d been acting so childish and even hurt Darrin; but she couldn’t just let these thoughts run rampant. Perhaps she’ll go out tonight with some friends and talk to them about it.
"What was that about? You are really starting to make me think you're out to get me."
She only looked at him, giving him a nervous smile and half laugh to match his before he left once more. Jessica hugged her knees a little, feeling the pang of guilt for how she was acting- of course, this was going hand in hand with whatever thoughts still lingered. She gave a tired sigh before Darrin returned, startling her a little bit when he took her hand.
"You still haven't told me.."

His voice caused Jess to look over at him, his facial expressing not helping his conflicting feelings. With a sigh, Jessica pulled her hand away from his, placing it upon the not bruised spot on her forehead.
“I’m sorry,” She began, not wanting to show her face as she buried it into her knees. “I don’t mean to be acting weird- it’s just I have a lot of…” Her voice trailed off, looking up at him as if he was the source of the problem- which in terms, he kind of was. “Conflicting emotions…” She chose her words carefully, forming them with her tongue before actually saying them.
Jessica quickly looked at him thought before putting her hands up. “It isn’t your fault; it’s my fault for not controlling my hor- thoughts, yeah, my thoughts.” She quickly caught herself before leaning back slightly, looking at him with a vague smile.

He felt a pang of sadness as Jessica pulled her hand from his. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be acting weird- it’s just I have a lot of…” Darrin listened as his friend spoke to him. It surprised him when she looked up at him. He felt as if she was blaming him for her actions. “Conflicting emotions…It isn’t your fault; it’s my fault for not controlling my hor- thoughts, yeah, my thoughts.” He was not happy to find that he was getting nowhere. He gently leaned close to her, placing a kiss upon cheek. He rose from his seat and made to leave though hesitated at the doorway. "You know that you can talk to me." He said and then left her. He made his way back up the stairs and to his room. He left the door open, not really having gone up there to stay for very long. He sat down on the bed, picking up his phone.

He quickly unlocked it and began scrolling through his messages. Kris was still being persistent. He sighed heavily before beginning to write up a message. He spent a good amount of time on the message, trying to explain everything to his former friend. When he was happy with the message, he sent it. He then headed back downstairs to join Jess. He sat back down on the couch, though leaving distance between them. He had his phone out, seeing that Kris had written him back. "You'll be happy to know that I sent Kris a message." He said, glancing at the young woman.

Darrin read what the other man had sent him. It seemed that he wanted to see Darrin. However, he would not allow it right then. Perhaps after the withdrawals were over and he'd spent the day with his family and Jess. He quickly wrote the man a message, asking him if he would want to come over the following week so that they could catch up. He intended to apologize at some point, though not until he was ready. Darrin suddenly turned his full attention to the tv. He was still not feeling too well though he was trying not to allow it to show. He rested his head in one of his hands, closing his eyes as he tried to ignore the cravings and sickness.

Jessica felt like absolute shit; she had just chased off a worried friend because of these inane thoughts. Her face scrunched up, bringing her knees up to her chest before she rolled off of the couch and landed with a thud on the floor. It was really her fault; she should be able to control these things- then again, he is to be blamed some, as well. How the hell does she tell her best friends she’s having bad thoughts about him in an unfriendly matter? And what the hell does he think kissing her on the cheek will do?
Then it hit her; he kissed her. While it was on the cheek, it had to count for something, right? She flew herself upwards, reaching for the couch and climbing it again, her face a stained color of red idiotically realizing the simple fact.

Do you know what this means? Her thought annoyingly chimed in.
“That’s it; I’m getting a freaking drink.” Jessica scowled at herself before walking to the kitchen, pouring herself a glass of water and taking a long gulp before walking back into the living room and sitting down. She tried to calm herself from then, her eyes closing as she breathed in and out like she was meditating- hell, she was meditating.
"You'll be happy to know that I sent Kris a message."
Jessica’s eyes snapped open as she looked at Darrin, who was now sitting some distance away from him. “That’s great!” She said, leaning forward, looking at him. Guilt over took her instantly seeing how he was suffering a little. Jessica really needed to stop this. With a sigh, she scooted near him until she was close enough to lean her head on his shoulder.
“I’m really sorry that I’m acting odd.” She said, her eyes on the TV as well. Jess snuggled a little on his shoulder, once again pulling her knees to her chest. “I’ve been having these really odd feelings resurfacing towards you. I don’t really like it that much, so I’ve been acting weirdly to try and avoid them from growing.” This time, her voice seemed tired, Jessica’s eyes closing. “Though, you don’t have to worry; I don’t think they are anything romantic.” She said honestly.

“That’s great!” Jessica said. It wasn't long after she'd spoken that she sighed. She moved closer to him and then leaned her head upon his shoulder. “I’m really sorry that I’m acting odd.” Jess said, snuggling a bit upon his shoulder. “I’ve been having these really odd feelings resurfacing towards you. I don’t really like it that much, so I’ve been acting weirdly to try and avoid them from growing. Though, you don’t have to worry; I don’t think they are anything romantic.” Darrin thought on what his friend had said. When she'd confessed the day before about having had feelings for him when they'd been younger, he'd thought nothing of it. However, now, at her words, he was beginning to think. When they'd been younger, Darrin hadn't dated very many girls. He'd always been far too busy to worry about such things. There had only been a handful of girls.

All through school there had only been one that had stood by his side and she was still there now. Before, had someone asked him if he had feelings for Jessica, he would have merely said no. However, now..he wasn't so sure of his answer. "So..what kind of feelings?" He asked her, glancing her way for a moment before turning his attention back to the tv. He didn't understand.

Darrin wasn't completely sure as to his own feelings. But, he knew that he was more than happy to have her back in his life. He couldn't begin to imagine not having her around. Since he'd been off the drugs and alcohol he'd been able to think a bit clearer. He gently rested his head atop Jess's own. He was silent for a long time, not pressuring her to answer him. When he did finally speak, Darrin had a small smile on his face. "You know, I..want to be honest with you about something." He said, suddenly refusing to look at her. "I've..been feeling something towards you." Though he did not elaborate. He simply left it at that.

The silence was slowly building up, and before long, Jessica couldn’t help but to feel a little embarrassed and she soon began to regret what she said.
"So..what kind of feelings?"
This caused Jess to stall, jolting away from a little bit before relaxing, her eyes shooting across the room and away from him.
“Y-You really don’t want to know…” She said. Did she really have to tell him? No, she wouldn’t; she’d leave it at that. Jessica’s face grew hot with the sudden air of silence before he began to speak once more, causing her to shift her head upwards, as if trying to see him.
"You know, I..want to be honest with you about something. I've..been feeling something towards you."

This caused Jessica to pull away from him completely to look at him, her face completely flustered as she stared at him; her lips opened slightly as her hair fell from her shoulders and seemed to frame her face. Then, without Jessica realizing it, she spoke what was on her mind- what had been plaguing her for a long while.
“S-Should we find out?” She leaned in a little closer towards him, her weight on her hands. “Do you think we should k…” Her voice faded out in complete embarrassment before it raised again, her eyes avoiding his as her the heat from her cheeks shimmied its way down her neck. “Why don’t we kiss.” While she was staring at the floor and avoiding his eyes, Jessica’s voice was a bit firmer, more demanding than it had been before.

After he'd spoken, Jessica pulled away from him. He immediately regretted having said anything. She was staring at him and he'd been about to apologize before she spoke first. “S-Should we find out?” She asked him, leaning in a bit closer to him. “Do you think we should k…” Her voice fell away and Darrin was not sure why. Perhaps she was nervous. He knew he was. Darrin did note that Jessica was not looking at him. “Why don’t we kiss.” At her words, Darrin thought over the pros and cons to doing what she'd said. He did not wish to ruin their friendship though at the same time..he knew that if they never took that step..they would spend the rest of their lives wondering.

He suddenly smiled, reaching over and taking hold of her chin. He then gently forced her to look at him. "Why don't we?" He said softly. His hand moved from her chin to the back of her neck. He pulled her closer to him, hesitating only when they were a breath away. He was giving her the opportunity to stop what they were about to do. He'd never felt so nervous before. He had no idea why he seemed to think that it was so different from any other woman he'd kissed before. He decided to merely stop putting it off and do as she'd suggested.

Darrin tilted his head, his eyes slowly closing as he closed the distance between Jessica and himself. He pressed his lips to hers. He wasn't sure why, but the kiss felt..differently from those he'd shared with other women. He decided not to think on it, enjoying the feel of her lips upon his. They remained that way for a long time, or so it seemed to Darrin. The kiss was soft and gentle, almost as if testing something completely foreign to him. He didn't want to do anything that she did not wish. He was giving her full control. A few moments later, Darrin finally pulled away though did not go far. He allowed his gaze to settle upon her, eyeing her. He was still afraid that something would change between them..and he wasn't sure that he was ready to let his friend go. He'd been hurt so badly by Hannah that he was immediately assuming the worst.

"Why don't we?"
His soft words sent a gush of warmth that spread throughout her body and heated every corner of her face in a blush that was as red as the blood below her skin. Jessica suddenly forgot how to breath; her breath caught on the building excitement in the back of her throat as he tilted her head upwards, leaning in close. She looked at him until she felt the support filing in at the back of her neck; her brown eyes then decided to close.
Jessica kept her mouth slightly parted; only softly closing them when she felt the tingling sensation of his breath that danced on her lips. This was it- this was the moment she had been waiting for, for, well to her, it felt like forever. Her body tensed up a little, before it died.

Then it came; the kiss. It made her heart skip a beat, her body tingled and hummed underneath his lips- or, was it suppose to? No, it didn’t; that was the odd part. Jessica sat there, allowing him to softly kiss her, aching for a flutter or a leap from her heart; but nothing. There was absolutely nothing; even the perverted voice in her head had disappeared. In somewhat desperation, Jessica allowed it to continue, until he had slowly pulled away, her eyes opening up to look at him, almost in a dazed and befuddled way.
What the hell had just happened? She had just kissed Darrin; her first love- for god sakes, the man was freaking famous. Why had it felt like she was merely kissing someone whom she had no romantic feelings towards? Jessica looked at him in the eyes, still seeming dazed and confused before she wrapped her hands around his neck and leaned into him, initiating a kiss herself to further her investigation.
Still nothing.

Jessica pulled away, looking at him as her brows furrowed. She searched his eyes slightly, her arms still hooked around his neck before she sat back down, turning away from him to face the front, chewing on her now hot lips. Jessica just couldn’t understand; moments before- hell, seconds before, she had been dying to kiss him, dying for him to hold her. Now, she felt like she had just kissed her best friend at a Christmas party.
Realizing how insensitive she had just been, Jessica whipped around towards Darrin, looking up at him with her brown eyes, curious on whether he felt something as well. Suddenly, worried filled her entire chest- what if he did feel something? She would be no better than Hannah- just playing with his feelings. Her lips parted slightly while her mouth hung open; oh god, she was a horrible person. Quickly, Jessica turned towards him, her eyes filled with anxiety and woe.
“H-How was it? Did you feel anything?” She asked nervously.

Darrin watched Jessica as confusion crossed her features. And then she was wrapping her arms about his neck, leaning in to him and kissing him. He allowed it, kissing her back. Jessica was the one that pulled away that time and Darrin watched her closely. He would be a fool not to notice the looks that were crossing her face. “H-How was it? Did you feel anything?” Jessica asked him. Darrin could tell she was worried. He was suddenly refusing to look at her. His gaze was focused upon his lap, a somewhat forlorn look upon his face. He had two options before him. He could either tell her that he had felt something or simply deny it. He had no idea what to do. He sighed silently before finally speaking. He'd taken the easy way out, lying. He couldn't tell her the truth. Not after seeing the different looks that had crossed her face. "No." He said simply.

He said nothing more on the matter though he was fairly certain that if anyone could tell when he was lying it would be Jess. He suddenly stood from his seat. "I think I'm going to go lay down. I'm starting to feel bad again." He didn't wait for her to speak, heading out of the room. He then proceeded up the stairs and to his bedroom. As he shut the door, he debated about locking the door but opted against it. He made his way to the bed and laid down. He pulled the covers up around him, nearly hiding himself beneath them.

Closing his eyes, Darrin tried to ignore the feelings that were running through him. He doubted Jess would have been so nervous had she felt something. He suddenly grabbed one of the extra pillows and pulled it on top of his head in frustration. He just seemed to have terrible luck. He had no idea how he was supposed to face her now.

Later the same night

“God damn, Jessica, calm down…” Anna said, crossing her arms as she watched Jessica down another glass of wine. “Drinking wine like that will make you drunk quicker than a shot- and knowing you, it won’t take much…”
Jessica didn’t care; she felt like shit. She had not only hurt her best friend, but it was enough for him to lie to her and go upstairs. It wasn’t even the worst part; after trying to have him stop the alcohol and drinking, she runs to her friend’s house gets a drink herself.
“You don’t understand, Anna…” She said, resting her head on the countertop of Anna’s kitchen. “He looked so heart- it really did hurt me a lot…” Jess sniffled, the effects of the wine now taking hold. Anna stood up, her blonde hair pulled back in a loose ponytail as she snapped the bottle and glass out of Jess’ hands.
“That’s enough for you.” She said, scowling at her friend.

Anna was a friend that Jess met when she was in university- one of the first friends she had since her mother died; and one of her dearest. The woman may be abrasive and crude, but she was loyal and seriously a keeper. She was much taller than Jessica and Darrin both, and had more defined curves than Jess ever would; she was defiantly a golden beauty. Anytime she was next to Jessica, she always outshined her in looks. None the less, Jess still loved her.
“Anna~” She cried, sitting up and looking at her. “What do I do?” She began to kick her legs, causing her friend to roll her eyes and sit back down, crossing her legs and watching Jessica.
“Well,” She began, looking at her. “It is your fault.” Anna smiled, teasing the tipsy Jess. Jess looked at Anna before covering her face with her hands. “I know… but I was really curious on whether or not I had feelings for him. I guess I don’t…”

This caused Anna to create an outburst. “God, you freaking 26 and acting like an ignorant little child!” She scolded, leaning forward and placing her elbows on the table. “You obviously feel something towards him!” Anna’s free hand rested on her thigh, her legs spread taking up a form much like a macho-man. “Just go with it; either way you will fall in love with him. Tell him you had feelings towards him and just date him. I mean it isn’t every day you get to date a star.”
Jessica peeked at him through her hands, looking at her friend. “I can’t do that, Anna. He just got out of a relationship- he has children. I can’t string him along until I feel like keeping him.”
Anna scuffed at her, crossing her arms over her body. “Geez, the man got out of that disaster wreck over three years ago- how pathetic can he be?” Anna looked at her, her brows furrowing.

Jess leaned back, her head hanging off the chair. “Anna, he was in love.” She simply said, jumping a little when she felt the stool vibrate from Anna’s hands slamming down on the table.
“So? I was in love once. When my husband left me, I gave zero shits and set the house on fire. I’m alright now, aren’t I?” This caused Jessica to laugh, but it was a dying one.
“Yeah, I know. I had to bail you out of jail- you still owe me.” She said, shooting her pointer finger like a gun. “Whether or not your husband left you, it’s different.” Jessica looked at Anna in a serious matter. “Bonds are different between different people. Him and his wife where probably in a bond that I can’t match, no matter how hard I try.”
“That’s your problem- you should stop comparing yourself.” Anna looked at her, striking hazel eyes pinpointing Jessica. “You want to know what I think?” She said, leaning forward once more. “I think that you are burying your true feelings in fear that you’ll only end up loving him not for him, but for the feeling of romance.” Jessica looked at her, agreeing by nodding. “I also think that without action, you won’t be able to realize those actions and someone might come and gobble him up again- or come back.” Anna looked at her, her eyes boring into Jessica’s slowly dazing ones. Ah, alcohol was truly the devil.

The weekend

Thanks to the slowly approaching school term, Jessica had been nothing but busy. Within the few days after her and Darrin had kissed, she was called up by the elementary. Due to the school being under construction, Jessica was required to take apart her class and move it to a trailer out in the back part of the property.
This itself, took up most of the week and she was unable to return to the Reed house. She busied herself with preparing for school and making her trailer seem as homey as possible for the kids. The trailer itself was fairly big; the big metal box stacked high up on stones and had several windows in it, including its own bathroom. A/C units stuck out the windows for the hotter days and a large heater was placed in the corner of the trailer. None the less, Jessica was proud of her handy work around the thing; she managed quite well.
Now, it was time to head over to the Reed’s house and pick up the kids, Judith and Darrin up to go to the water park. Jessica hadn’t seen him since that day, and to be honest, she was a bit nervous- hell, she hasn’t even spoken to him over the phone or anything. Despite this, she was determined to have fun today with both, Darrin and the children- and Judith.

Jessica got into her car and drove back towards the direction, stopping at her house first to get change and bring some clothes along. She wore a pretty baby doll dress that sat lightly on her shoulders and stopped right below her knees, completely hiding the bathing suit she had on underneath. She placed the pool supplies in her car and drove over towards their house, knocking on the door, and waiting for them to answer.

Darrin had not been surprised when he'd not seen Jessica since their kiss. His mother had noticed a slight change in his attitude the moment she'd returned with the kids. However, she'd not asked him anything about it. She hadn't wanted to risk angering him. He'd remained in his room for most of the week, going through the last stages of withdrawal. When they had finally gone away save for his cravings for the drugs, he was glad. He wasn't sure how much longer he could have continued dealing with it.

The first thing he'd done was asked his mother to get a few things for him from the store. When she'd returned, he'd thanked her and had immediately returned to his room, locking himself in. His had gotten quite long and honestly he'd grown tired of it. He cut the long strands and then proceeded to dye it a completely different color than he had in the past six years. He'd gone with a style that was more like what he'd always sported when he'd been in high school.

When his mother had seen what he'd done, she couldn't believe that he'd opted for going back to having black hair. It had always been a favorite of his and she'd honestly missed it. The rest of the week went by rather uneventfully. He'd spent time with Taylor and Nichola and had a wonderful few days. Even though he'd been furious with Jessica for forcing him to quit the alcohol and drugs, he was now able to think clearly enough to see that he was much better without the substances. He realized how much he'd missed spending time with his children and that he'd not been a very good father since Hannah had left.

Now that the weekend had arrived, they were all going to the water park with Jessica. Darrin was feeling rather nervous. He'd gotten ready, merely putting on his swim trunks, a black band shirt, his sandals, and sunglasses. He knew that without his hair being bright red he might be able to go a bit longer before anyone recognized him. Darrin had then started getting Nichola ready and then Taylor.

Judith had been the one downstairs, ready to go, when there was a knock at the door. She made her way to the door and opened it, revealing Jessica. "Hello dear." She said with a smile. She allowed Jessica to enter and then closed the door. "Darrin's upstairs getting the kids ready. They should be down in just a moment." Judith then made small talk with the younger woman. She informed her that Darrin had stopped having withdrawal symptoms a few days earlier and that he'd been spending more time with the kids. She did not mention what he'd done to his hair.

Suddenly, Nichola and Taylor came running down the stairs and headed straight for Jessica. They had missed her terribly. Nichola looked up at the older woman. "Can we go now?" She asked excitedly. Judith answered her. "Not until your father is down here." Nichola suddenly yelled, calling for Darrin. "Daddy!! Lets go!" Darrin was suddenly coming down the stairs and then entered into the kitchen where everyone was. He smiled down at Nichola as she ran to him, taking his hand and trying to pull him along. He allowed her to pull him and she quickly led the way out of the house. It was not lost on him that Taylor was doing the same to Jessica.

They decided to take Judith's van. Darrin buckled in both of his children and got in the back with them, telling the women they could have the front. The car ride to the park seemed almost awkward. Darrin had yet to say more than a hello to his friend. He just..wasn't quite sure what to say. Of course, if Judith took the children once they arrived at the water park, he was certain that he would eventually have to say something to her.

Seeing Darrin for the first time in a while made her a bit shocked when he walked out with black hair; her reaction and exact thoughts where, holy shit. It didn’t help her confusing and odd feelings either, making her face a useless and meaningless shade of pink when she saw him. None the less, she greeted him enthusiastic, and even said something along the lines of, ‘I like your hair’ – or ‘nice change’.
Jessica smiled and played along with the excited children as they all rushed into the van, her and Darrin in the front seat as Judith and the children in the back. She tried to lessen the tension around them in the car by telling odd jokes and singing along with the kids; though, it was no use. She still felt utterly awkward near him. Jess then found the solution- though, it would have to wait until they arrived.
“Oh, I hope you guys don’t mind; I’ve invited a friend along.” She said, once they had become closer to the destination. “She’s been with me since college and she also has a younger son; I invited her along due to the fact that her son is around your guys’ age.” Her hands came together as she said words that where partially true. Yeah, it was because her son is around the same age as Darrin’s kids, but a more apparent reason was to have Anna help her and distract her from the awkwardness- something Anna was all too good at.

When they arrived at the water park and parked, Jessica could already see the beautiful blonde standing outside the ticket booths, Ian eagerly eating a chocolate swirl ice cream cone. Already, it seemed as if Jessica was a bit washed out by the woman; her tanned body complimented by the gold bikini that hung perfectly on her body. While Jessica still wore the baby-doll dress that had been big on her even when she weigh a 100lbs heavier; not yet revealing her own bathing suit.
Anna, once she saw them through her black sunglasses, smiled and waved to catch their attention. She walked over towards him, holding Ian’s hands as she neared the group.
“This is Anna; my friend I told you guys about- and this is Ian, her son.” Ian looked at the two children; his mouth covered in ice cream stepped forward.
“My mom gave me money to buy some food. Do you guys want some ice cream?” He said, motioning his cone towards the two kids with a friendly and warm smile.

Anna held out her hand, shaking Judith’s first and introducing herself, before she turned to Darrin. “Hey, rock-star; how you’ doing?” Anna gave him her best smile, flashing her winning dimples as Jessica stand by, looking at Darrin. Often of the time, men from all over fell for Anna at first sight and meeting; so it wasn’t odd that Jessica felt herself a bit curious to how he might react, meeting a woman who could be as beautiful as an angel.

During the trip to the water park, Darrin was continuing to glance at Jessica. He hated feeling so awkward around her. It was not something that he was used to with her. When they were about nearly there, Jessica spoke. “Oh, I hope you guys don’t mind; I’ve invited a friend along. She’s been with me since college and she also has a younger son; I invited her along due to the fact that her son is around your guys’ age.” Darrin glanced over to the young woman at this. They arrived soon after, all of them getting out of the van. Darrin kept his sunglasses on, making sure they were on his face.

They began making their way towards the ticket booths. A blonde woman began waving at them. She and her son made their way to them. “This is Anna; my friend I told you guys about- and this is Ian, her son.” Jessica said. Darrin eyed the woman, simply watching her. Her son, Ian, quickly offered some ice cream to Nichola and Taylor. The little girl immediately nodded as did Taylor. Darrin was glad to see that they seemed to be more than happy to have someone new to play with.

Anna's voice suddenly brought him out of his thoughts. “Hey, rock-star; how you’ doing?” He focused back the woman. She reminded him vaguely of Hannah. Her mannerisms at least did. He'd met many women that were like her and not one had ever truly stood out to him save for Hannah. He sighed silently before answering her. "Hi..um..good. I take it Jess has been talking about me?" He said, scratching the back of his head. Though he had a small smile on his face, it wasn't like the smiles he normally gave Jessica. It was much like ones he gave his fans when meeting them. It was more..reserved. He was saved from having to continue speaking with her for the moment as Nichola was suddenly grabbing his hand and trying to pull him along. "Can we go in now, Daddy?" Darrin smiled down at the small girl. "Of course." He said. The group made their way to the ticket booths. Darrin ended up paying for the tickets, having offered happily.

Once inside the park, they began making their way to where the lounge chairs were. Judith opted for a cluster of them that were in the back, farther away from the others. They sat their things down and Judith began helping the children with their sunscreen. When they were all ready, Judith offered to take the children to the section that had been built up for the kids. Darrin had sat down on one of the lounge chairs as his mother had helped to get the children ready to swim. He'd been awfully cold towards Jessica and even a bit towards her friend..though he'd not meant to. Now that his mother had left, watching over the children, Darrin was perfectly happy simply remaining on the chair, being fairly anti-social. However, if he knew his friend..she probably wouldn't let him.

Jessica instantly saw that Darrin wasn’t interested with Anna, seeing the tight smile he gave her; for some odd reason, she felt relief spread throughout her chest. This confused Jessica and caused her to grow quiet, Anna talking away to her about something or another.
“Are you even listening?” Anna said when Judith picked out an area for the group.
“Huh? Oh, yeah… I think it’s a great idea.” This caused Anna to scuff, putting her hands on her hips, jingling the golden jewelry that hung from her yellow bikini.
“You aren’t listening, Jess.” Anna said, putting down her purse and ruffling her curly hair before sighing, watching Ian go off with Judith and the children. “Never mind about that,” Anna looked at Jessica in curiosity. “Aren’t you going swimming?” She asked, pointing at Jess’ baby dress. “I hope you packed yourself that sexy red bikini I got for you.” Anna leaned in closer to Jessica, whispering loud enough for Darrin. “I got that bikini for you to show off your newly earned body.” Anna sang, causing Jess to lightly shy away in a laugh.

“Anyways,” She turned around, walking towards the group already playing in it. “I hope you wear it and get some time in the water!” She waved her hand in the air before running up behind Ian, Nichola, Taylor and Judith, picking up Ian and throwing him into the water, the child laughing crazily as the other kids also wanted to be thrown.
Jessica turned on her heels, looking over at Darrin who sat in the chair before she made her way over towards him, sitting next to him. She looked at him for a little while before reaching over and ruffling his hair and squeezing his cheeks. “I still can’t believe you died your hair red.” She said, a smile forming on her face.
She looked at him a while before she scooted the chair closer to him. “Are you going to go swimming?” Jessica tried small talk with him, trying to ease up his tension; it was her fault, so she thought maybe having a little fun and acting normal will help him. She picked up a sunscreen bottle, and looked at him, her brown eyes staring right into him. “If you’d like, I can put sunscreen on you so you don’t burn.” She gave him a sheepish grin.
“If not, why don’t you put some sunscreen on me?” Jess said, turning towards him and taking off her dress, finally revealing her bathing suit.

“Are you freaking kidding me?!” Anna yelled over towards Jess when she saw what Jess was wearing. It caused Jess to slightly go pink at Anna’s scolding. Instead of a sexy, red bikini, Jessica sported a black, monotone one piece that covered every inch of her upper body- minus her arms. She even wore black shorts that stopped at her mid-thigh. “I spent a whopping fifty bucks on that bikini and you come here dressed like a nun!?” It was obvious that Anna was a bit angry that Jess hadn’t worn the bathing suit Anna planned her to.
Before Anna could say more, or even come up and have Jess pay her back, Ian threw a bucket of water on Anna, having the force of small children tackle her to play with her. Anna, already preoccupied dropped the entire thing, playing with the kids once more. Jess turned back to Darrin, smiling awkwardly as she held onto the bottle.

As Anna left Darrin and Jessica alone, he allowed his gaze to follow her as she sat next to him. He looked away as she began watching him. They remained that way for a little bit and then she reached over and ruffled his now shorter darkly colored hair and squeezed his cheeks. “I still can’t believe you died your hair red.” She said, smiling. Darrin had returned his gaze to her, finally smiling at her. "Yea..I just figured I'd had it red for long enough. Besides, I prefer it this color." Jessica moved her chair closer to his. “Are you going to go swimming?” He nodded at her before answering. "I had planned on it."

Darrin watched as Jessica picked up the bottle of sunscreen. “If you’d like, I can put sunscreen on you so you don’t burn. If not, why don’t you put some sunscreen on me?" He didn't answer right away as Anna was suddenly yelling towards her. Darrin laughed at them. As they stopped, Darrin spoke to the woman at his side. "I have a feeling that she may get you later." He joked, a smile still on his face. "But, to answer your questions..yes. I'll help you first though." He moved, sliding back a bit on the chair. He then patted the spot in front of him, motioning for her to join him on the long chair.

He waited patiently for her to move. When she had, he took the bottle from her hands. He then began slowly applying the lotion to her exposed back. He made sure to cover her completely before moving to her shoulders. "Where have you been all week?" He asked softly as he finished up where she could not reach. He handed her the bottle. Just as he'd been about to pull his shirt off, the sound of a few voices caught his attention. "Are you Darrin Reed?" The young teen boy asked, looking over at Darrin. "I am." He said, smiling at them. The boy had what appeared to be his mother and a few friends. The moment he confirmed who he was, they immediately became quite excited. Darrin glanced at Jessica. This was the first time she'd had to deal with this. "Give me like..five minutes?" He asked her softly.

He rose from his seat, taking his sunglasses off, after she'd spoke and made his way over to the small group. For a moment, they bombarded him with questions about the band yet he answered them in stride, seemingly not even fazed. They then asked if they could get a picture with him which he agreed to. This went rather quickly, though the girls seemed to linger much closer than was really necessary. When Darrin finished with them, he bid them goodbye and they slowly left.

Darrin made his way back Jessica. "Sorry." He apologized to her. He smiled at her before continuing. "So..want to help me with the sunscreen?" He removed his shirt and laid it down with their belongings. He was looking a bit better than when Jessica had originally seen him at the beginning of the week. He'd been eating normally and so had gained a bit of weight back already. He sat down near Jessica, so that she could have easy access to his skin.

“I have a feeling that she may get you later. But, to answer your questions..yes. I'll help you first though."
Jessica laughed a little, her smile growing more natural knowing that Darrin wasn’t being as awkward as he had been earlier that day. She walked over; sitting in the spot he motioned her to, pulling her long brown hair up into a bun. When he had asked her where she’s been all week, Jessica relaxed before smiling, leaning back on him a little as she began to answer him.
“Well, the school was on-” "Are you Darrin Reed?"
Jessica turned her attention over towards the group of kids asking him. The next thing she knew, Jess nodded and he excused himself to go over towards the group- now, she was watching girls in those tiny pieces of clothes hang around a little longer. A hot feeling sweltered in her stomach; watching the pretty young girls try and flirt with Darrin was very aggravating for Jessica. Was she jealous?
At that thought, Jess shook her head a little; she couldn’t be jealous- she had no right. He wasn’t her boyfriend, husband, or even brother; only a friend. If anything, shouldn’t Jess be happy that he was actually getting out there? This caused her brows to furrow as she began to think a little about these feelings; she definitely hadn’t felt anything at all when they kissed, yet, she felt so conflicted inside about watching him talk to girls- no, not even girls, his fans.

Oh god, she wasn’t even classifying the young girls as girls- she was indeed jealous. To prevent her aggravation to cease, Jessica quickly turned her head downwards, staring at the concrete below her feet until she heard him apologize, making Jessica turn her head up quickly.
“Ah, no need to apologize.” She smiled, holding her hands up. “I knew this would happen; I just hope you aren’t too bothered.” She only nodded when he had asked her to do his back. Jessica smiled slightly wider when he had taking off his shirt; she had saw that he had gained weight since the last time she saw him.
Jessica squeezed some sunscreen out on her hands and slapped them to Darrin’s back, causing the lotion to splatter across his back and drip down it, landing on the chair and ground. “You’ve gained weight!” She proclaimed happily. “It makes me happy that you are getting better.” Her voice was only above a whisper as she started from his shoulders, rubbing in the liquidly lotion.

She was quiet for a little longer, before she began to bite her lip, her hands making their way down his back. “Anyways, the school building is under renovations, so they moved out all of the students to trailers outside. I just had to set everything up in the trailers.” She continued her interrupted answer to his question from earlier. Her hands got to the middle of his back before Jessica pulled away, pouring more lotion on her hands.
“I didn’t mean to make it awkward for you; I mean, like not even calling or anything.” She was hinting to after the kiss. Her hands slowed as they reached the bottom of his back. She chewed on her lip a little more before stopping, backing up so he could turn to face her. “Alright, all done!” She smiled, rubbing whatever was left on her hands onto his chest, looking at him in a playful way.
“Daddy!” Nichola’s voice brought Jess’ attention over. “Come in!” She yelled, her face red from laughing and playing before Taylor was thrown by Anna, followed by Ian.

“You’ve gained weight! It makes me happy that you are getting better.” As Jessica began sliding her hands over his back, Darrin leaned slightly into her touch. He laughed lightly at her words. They remained silent for a moment longer before Jessica answered his question from earlier. “Anyways, the school building is under renovations, so they moved out all of the students to trailers outside. I just had to set everything up in the trailers.” He smiled as he listened to her speak. “I didn’t mean to make it awkward for you; I mean, like not even calling or anything.” Darrin didn't really want to talk about that day, though did not say so. "I doubt that I would have been much company either way. I was sick for two days straight." He said.

Her hands slowed and then finally stopped. She moved from him and Darrin rose, turning to look at her. “Alright, all done!” She ran her hands over his chest. He looked down at her, a small smile on his face. Nichola took his attention. He glanced over at their small group and then turned his gaze back to Jessica. "Come on. If we don't join them soon I've no doubt that they'll come drag us in." He began walking towards the pool that they were playing in right then.

Darrin got into the pool, sinking down so that the water was up near his shoulders. Nichola immediately was on his back, laughing. Taylor soon joined them, trying to pull his sister off of their father as he wanted up instead. Darrin laughed before helping his daughter down. He stood so that they could no longer argue over it. Darrin was glad that they were all having fun. He decided to spend some time with his kids, they were currently trying to get him under the water. Suddenly, however, Taylor called to Jessica. "Come help us, Miss Jess!" Darrin's mother was laughing as she watched her son and grandchildren. It was obvious that Darrin was feeling much better than he had in a very long time..and it made her happy.

"Come on. If we don't join them soon I've no doubt that they'll come drag us in."
Jessica smiled at him and nodded as he walked over and began to play with the kids; she shortly followed them, but at a slower pace, allowing her body to get use to the chilling but comforting water. Suddenly, Taylor called to her, asking her to come join them; it made her smile wide and brilliantly to know that Taylor was now speaking a bit more- he was always a bit too quiet in class.
She went under and swam over towards them, picking up Taylor and then dropping him; while he was in term, seriously heavy, she played it off as if she was playing with him, once again, not wanting to seem weak. To make up for her failure, she joined in with the kids to try and dunk Darrin, splashing water on him and helping by trying to pick up Nichola so she could pour water on him.
Anna was doing what she did best and kept throwing Ian and Taylor, allowing them to splash in the water until she grew tired, her hands on the back of her hips. “I’m going to catch up on my tan.” She huffed, making her way out of the water, not trying to hide her fatigue. It made Jess snicker a little bit, but she didn’t cease in trying to help the children dunk Darrin.

Nichola climbed on Darrin’s back again, while Taylor pulled Jessica nearer to Darrin, behind him this time as the two pushed tried to push him into the water, making Nichola slide off his back and helping the two. Jessica laughed slightly before pulling away, swimming some distance only to be pulled back in by Ian, Taylor and Nichola.
“I’ve got it!” Jessica proclaimed, catching the attention of the kids. “Want to play Marco-Polo? Winner buys lunch and gets ice cream.” She smiled at the laughter and yelling of ‘Yeses’.
“We should do teams!” Taylor announced, swimming near Jessica and pulling her near. “One team can have three players and the other can have two.”
“We get Ian!” Nichola suddenly burst out, pulling her father near her and motioning Ian to swim closer. She looked up at Darrin with motivation in her eyes. “We can’t lose Daddy.”

Jessica merely laughed at how serious Nichola was taking this all before Taylor pulled her attention back to him, tugging on her arm. “We should make Daddy, Nichola and Ian ‘it’ first, ok?”
Jess smiled and nodded at the small boy, turning back up and looking at Darrin, a sly look on her face. “You wanna be it first?” She gave him a playful wink and grin, as if challenging him.

Darrin laughed as Jessica joined in trying to get him under the water. The were relentless on him. When, at last, they were able to get him under, Darrin smiled as he resurfaced. His hair was laying plastered upon his face. He moved a few of the strands so that he could see better. “I’ve got it!Want to play Marco-Polo? Winner buys lunch and gets ice cream.” Jessica suggested. Darrin wasn't surprised when the children all chimed their 'yeses'. “We should do teams! One team can have three players and the other can have two.” Taylor said, pulling on Jessica.

Darrin stood with his daughter, merely waiting until they were ready to start. However, his daughter spoke. “We get Ian!” The little girl then turned, looking up at him. “We can’t lose Daddy.” He smiled at her, laughing lightly. He was glad to see that she was so determined. Taylor spoke to Jessica and then she offered to allow them to go first. Darrin smirked at his friend. "Sure." He said. Nichola and Ian both seemed happy to be going first. Darrin instructed both children to close their eyes and then he did as well. He counted out loud, so that they could hear him. He could hear them trying to move silently in the water. He made it to twenty-nine before they began the game.

Darrin opted for calling out 'Marco' and he listened intently as the others called 'Polo' back. He focused upon Jessica's voice, trying to locate her. He moved slowly, calling out and then continuing to listen. He was glad that the awkwardness seemed to have disappeared from between Jessica and him. He'd not cared for it. It had nearly been forgotten as he made his way towards her voice. At one point, Nichola ran into Darrin and then quickly made her way from him once realizing that it was her father. Darrin had been certain that he was nearly to the woman, though he could not be certain.

Jessica couldn’t help but to laugh out ‘Polo’ when Darrin and the children called for her and her team. Taylor stayed behind Jessica and would only go behind Judith when someone wasn’t near; he kept switching back and forth, and at one time, Jessica nearly sat on him in the water- the boy wouldn’t cease his moving.
She laughed a little, giggling at Taylor’s movement as he splashed his little sister in the face and swiftly swimming away while Judith just barely avoided Ian’s little hands; Nichola soon swimming over- obviously peaking- and backed up Ian in trying to take down Judith. Taylor eventually left Jess’ side to help out his grandmother, leaving Jessica alone in the waters, trying to avoid Darrin.
She dived into the water and swimming around him, just barely avoiding the man before peaking up behind him. Jessica was as quiet as she could be, but knew that he would easily be able to hear her in the waters; so she decided to have a little fun with him.

“Dairy boy!” Her voice sang in a low pitch before she just barely avoided him again, diving down under and then popping up behind him; this time, she didn’t move nor said anything. She stayed silent, allowing the water to settle around her. In complete honest, Jessica wasn’t playing anymore; instead, she sat there and stared at him for a while, a smile on her face.
He was slowly becoming himself again; it was like they were in high school once more. All they needed was for Kris to jump in or try and trap Jessica’s fat body into a ring float; was for Zach to tell them that if they keep playing, that they’d look even more like dumb-ass kids; and was for Liam to silently brood in the corner- then they would be back in high school.
She sighed lightly before swimming closer to him and poking his back, allowing for Darrin to turn around and catching her. Jessica smiled and laughed a little, ignoring Anna’s eyes that stayed on them, and ignoring that growing, sly smirk.

“You caught me!” Jessica said, throwing her hands up in the air as she looked at him with happy, smiling eyes. Taylor and Ian, having a mischievous look on their faces snuck up behind Darrin, just barely catching Jessica’s eyes; they gave her an eying and sly look before shushing her and filling up a bucket of water. They did their best to throw it up to Jessica, causing her to lean into Darrin and throwing her hands over his head; she was standing on her tippy toes and suddenly became close.
The two boys silently high fived each other when they saw Jessica just barely catching the bucket before they motioned to her to dump it on him. She couldn’t help but to smile widely and gave out a throaty chuckle. Jess leaned back a little, her arms still holding the full bucket behind his head; she hadn’t realized that she was so close and intimate looking until she heard the gasp from Judith, who was in the position where it looked as if they were holding each other- which, in a sense, they kind of were.
A small blush reoccurred over her cheeks now knowing how close they were before she scooted backwards, bending down a little to dump the bucket over his head; watching the water fall over his already wet head. Jessica fell backwards, landing in the water as she watched him, trying to cool herself off from her heating body.

“Dairy boy!” Jess called from somewhere near him. He continued trying to find her though she was no longer saying anything. "Jess..are you cheating?" He asked, a light laugh upon his voice. He soon felt her poking him in the back. He smiled, turning around. He easily found her that time. “You caught me!” The woman said, tossing her hands up into the air. Darrin opened his eyes, noting how happy she seemed regardless of the fact that she'd gotten herself caught. His gaze simply rested upon the young woman. Within only a few moments, Jessica leaned into him, bringing them rather close. From what he could tell, she'd merely slipped her arms upon his shoulders.

Though he'd automatically placed his hands upon her waits, he looked at her in confusion. The woman suddenly smiled and laughed. He had no idea why she would be laughing. It was his mother gasping that seemed to jolt the young woman. She then moved backwards, away from him. He allowed her out of his grasp, watching her. However, water suddenly pouring over his head. He closed his eyes and a smile crossed his features. When the water stopped, he reopened his eyes, looking down at the woman. He was forced to moved his bangs about again.

"You," He started as he approached her and sunk down so that they were level, "Are terrible." He laughed, showing that he'd not minded at all with what she'd done. "I believe it would be your team's turn. Let's see if you can find me." He smirked at her before moving from her. Though he was acting as if nothing had changed between them, he was still struggling with how he felt about her. She certainly didn't help matters by invading his personal space as she'd done only a few moments before.

He waited patiently for Jessica's team to begin their turn. He moved fairly quietly, answering with 'Polo' when they called out. He remained just out of her reach for some time, moving around her. He glanced to the others, seeing them quickly becoming distracted as they found each other. Darrin decided to continue moving around the young woman. He finally found a corner and sunk down, almost in a crouch. He watched Jessica as she moved about the pool. "You're not gonna find me, Jess." He teased, laughing for only a moment. He opted for remaining rooted to the spot, giving her a better chance of finding him.

Jessica laughed with him, sliding backwards from him before he noted it was her turn. She turned around and swam towards Taylor and the curious Judith, who was eying her carefully; Jessica wasn’t exactly sure whether or not she was happy, or furious with what she had just seen. None the less, she smiled and went over towards what had happened, having everyone close their eyes and counting to twenty, Taylor cutting it short once he got impatient.
With her eyes closed, she yelled ‘Marco’, and of course, she followed the voice of Darrin’s who seemed to generate from one specific spot. Jessica paused a little turning her head away from him and peeking over at the others; the children were playing, Taylor and Judith teaming up to find Nichola and Ian. Jess smiled, biting her lip at her own excitement before closing her eyes fully and following Darrin’s voice.
"You're not gonna find me, Jess."

Being teased only made her want to find him even more; though, Jessica resisted, getting only a few feet from him and turning left and right, as if she was lost. She couldn’t help but to giggle a little, knowing where he was before she stopped, and swam closer to his voice, finally touching his skin.
“I got you.” She said, opening one eye as she looked at him, a smile on her face. Her eyes looked at him for a little while, her hands lingering on his chest before she dropped them, hearing the screaming and yelling of the kids. Jessica turned around, her hands subconsciously rising back to his chest, her fingers tapping him as she looked behind her for the kids; Taylor seemed to be struggling to find Nichola and Judith being led to the corner of the pool by Ian, who was swimming skillfully around her.
“It looks like they are pretty occupied,” She turned back around and smiled widely at him, her cheeks becoming a rosy pink from smiling too much and being out in the sun. “It makes everyone a little happy; thanks for coming out.”

Darrin continued to watch Jessica as she slowly got closer to him. Before long she'd reached him, touching his skin. “I got you.” She said, smiling. Darrin returned it with one of his own. It was not lost on him that her hands lingered upon his chest. He allowed it, enjoying the feeling. She was quick to drop them as the children stole her attention. She was quick, however, to allow her hands to return to their previous spot upon his chest. He allowed his hands to rest upon her waist once again. “It looks like they are pretty occupied. It makes everyone a little happy; thanks for coming out.” He returned her smile. "I don't think that you would have allowed me not to come." He said laughing lightly as he joked with her.

He allowed his gaze to shift to the others as they continued having fun. "But, I think they were long overdue for something like this. So, I believe I should be thanking you. For everything..even though at the time I wasn't very happy about it." He allowed her to remain close to him for as long as she wished. As the others were loud, having their fun, Darrin suddenly spoke to Jessica. "So..Kris is coming over tomorrow." He looked to her wondering what she thought about it. He knew that Kris would most likely stay most of the day and no doubt want to catch up with Darrin.

Darrin was dreading it yet at the same time was looking forward to it. In all honesty, he'd missed his best friend. "Anyway, I was just going to let you know that you are welcome to come over. I might have missed you this week." He fell silent, waiting for her answer. He had no idea if she had plans but hoped that she would come over.

"But, I think they were long overdue for something like this. So, I believe I should be thanking you. For everything..even though at the time I wasn't very happy about it."
Jessica smiled sweetly at this, subconsciously twirling her fingers on his chest; almost as if she was feeling the warmth that was generated from him. She suddenly felt a sweet pang in her chest that made her instantly happy and feel bubbly; it caused her to look at Darrin, drawing near to him, closer than she already was.
"So..Kris is coming over tomorrow. Anyway, I was just going to let you know that you are welcome to come over. I might have missed you this week."

This caused Jessica to completely freeze before lighting up; she was happy- it was obvious. Darrin was finally going to try and get back together with his friends. She knew that once he had his friends together, that he’d be a step closer to being happy- for normalcy.
“That’s great!” She proclaimed happily, clasping her hands together before she dropped them, moving to his side and leaning on the edge of the pool, looking at him. “I’m really happy.” She said, in an almost serious tone before she bit her lip, nearing him a little.
“On a more serious tone…” She said, her voice growing low as Jess looked at him. “How about me and you go and see a movie tonight? I’ll buy dinner.” Jessica could feel her cheeks heat up. Yes, she was asking him on a date, and this was very difficult- at least for her it was. Especially after the failure the kiss led to.
