He was annoyed with himself for having been so preoccupied with the looting and pillaging that he had missed the stalker. Now there was a puncture wound in his new host and what was more worrying, the attacker seemed to be well equipped for hunting Spirts. In his present state, there was precious little he could do against a prepared opponent. Somehow, the magic that was usually afforded to Spirts of his age was only now slowly trickling into place. The only thing that could get him safely out of this mess was an instance of emergence, when elevated stress levels triggered a massive influx of power. He had never been good at getting those. He simply wasn't very good at getting stressed.

The body staggered back and reached some measure of composure, the wound swiftly closing, as stabs were comparatively easy to mend.

The eyes flickered up and down the assailant. A Dark Magic User. Annoying. The body was getting sluggish, even more annyoing. It seemed, he was running out of options fast.

"Why make your boredom my problem?" the monotonous voice droned from the unmoving lips of the corpse; not hinting the slightest at any emotion.

Then he stepped forward and shoved the still smoldering piece of wood he had been holding into the man's face.
Nothing like a good offence, when on the defensive. It probably wouldn't hurt the man, but a distraction should suffice.

"Why make your boredom my problem?"

The Spirit shoved a piece of smoldering wood in his face. The Mage dodged easily and set the wood and the corpse's arm on fire, hoping that the Spirit would become able to use its magic. The Dark Mage needed to know if the corpse's animator was able of enough power to be of any use.

He sliced down at the man's legs, setting his silver sword ablaze as well. Then, he sent a mental assault at the Spirit and tried to shatter the mind's walls. He knew Spirits weren't good at conjuring walls, and this one seemed like it would be an easy capture. "Smart, are you? I didn't think you were capable of that. After all, most Spirits are rather slow. It's helpful of you to show up. My... Guild, shall I put it, is running low on magic. Do you think you could lend me some? With that statement, he stabbed once more at the fragile wall of magic, leeching some from the swirling Spirit.

It was dawning on Pendwil that the Dark Mage was baiting him, but with what purpose? Then, the Dark Mage was kind enough to tell him. He was hunting Spirits to tap their magic and the blade was certainly leeching power. Power, Pendwil had, the trouble was that there was only limited means of directing it. The arm and the gash made by the blade were fast on the mend, but without any really useful weapon, this was a losing fight. The diamond had not escaped notice and was a problem. The Dark Mage would almost certainly attempt to catch him, if he left the host and leaving the host was the only option for launching the only weapon he had at the time.
Time was what he needed and it was running out.

With quick series of jabs, swings and thrusts, he flailed the hands at the mage's face, pressing the attack and ignoring the minor damage that was incurred. The speed and force thrown into the fight tore ligaments and damaged muscles, but the damage wasn't a problem as he just as easily mended it.
He feinted a final punch, straight at the face, but rather than follow through on the punch, he grabbed at the wrist of the sword-wielding hand. He intended to hang on to that wrist, preferably breaking it. Broken wrists were a nuissance, he knew from personal experience.

Corrose Malevolentte

Corrose suppressed a sharp gasp as his wrist snapped. He ground his teeth and with his left hand, he stabbed out with his sword. He had trained with both hands, but the broken wrist would give the Spirit an advantage, because he was now slower and more clumsy. He grimaced and called upon his own magic. Dark shadows crept down his arm, filling the break with black shade. He flexed his hand. Much better, he thought, and stabbed at the Spirit's host.

Fire roamed down his sword and set the earth ablaze. It set the Mage's robes on fire as well, but those were extinguished by the magic in the cloak before they could do any harm. Corrose snarled and launched a melee at the Spirit, drawing out his twin gold blade. The two swords flashed down towards the corpse's shoulders. They should make a clean cut, Corrose knew, cutting off the arms. His enchanted blades were dwarf-made, and cut through bones like cutting through water.

Aeska smelled smoke. She lifted her head and sniffed. It wasn't Ark's tiny blaze, it was full force magical fire. She tugged at her companion's arm. "We have to go. I think Penny's being attacked." She shouted a instantaneous explanation to Ashia, and then jumped down the tree, barely touching the ladders. Valaser darted after her, gliding down in a dizzying spiral.

Aeska arrived at the plains where she saw flashes of fire in the distance. She grabbed gasps of air and sprinted over to help. A Dark Mage was bringing twin blades, silver and gold, down on a corpse. She knew that it was Penny. She pulled out her longsword and swung up, catching both swords on its silver-blue blade. Smiling grimly, she tilted the sword and the blades screeched off. The Dark Mage looked at her in surprise. "Hello, Corrose. I trust that you're doing well?" The mage didn't reply, just stood there with his mouth open. "Sorry, I can't have you going around decapitating my friends."

It was a low blow. And somewhat unbalanced, without the arms still attached to the body, but it would serve its purpose, if the Dark Mage was sufficiently distracted by the new arrival.
It wasn't a very nice thing to do, but then again, neither was dismemberment or the implied threat to capture someone and leech off their power.

So he made the low blow. Or rather, he kicked. Hard.

If the foot managed to connect with the targeted groin of the Dark Mage, it was delivered with enough force to break his own ankle and probably some of the toes as well. What it would do to the Dark Mage was up in the air. The man obviously came prepared for a scrap. It was terribly crude, getting physical and brawly like this, Pendwil chastised himself, but he was lacking severely in the magic sword and deadly spell department, so he had to go with what was there.
In this case, quite literally disarmed, there were the legs. Attached to the legs were the feet.
Just one leg and one foot, really.
The other leg was sorely needed as the only connection to the ground and the only balancing feature as well.
And just now, he quite forcefully tried to attach his own foot to the groin of the Dark Mage, whose name was apparantly Corrose.
He idly wondered, if the Feline would make an appearance as well.

The Dark Mage narrowed his eyes. He watched the Spirit's form shift idly inside of the corpse, and suddenly its leg jerked upwards. A kick aimed straight for his groin. He snarled and grabbed at the foot that swung up towards him, smiling grimly. He stepped to the side, unless his grab was unsuccessful.

What in the world was that girl, Aeska, doing here? He though he'd dispatched her when Endor had been burned. Now his Riders were a stray force. He sent a Shadow Spell towards the girl with his free hand, knowing that if anyone else joined the brawl, he was currently helpless. Corrose pent up his anger and let loose a free tendril as soon as the Shadow was released. The tendril of fire burrowed into the crust and deeper, pulling lava up to the surface. In the process, he sensed another magic user nearby- a Fire user, he knew, sensing he presence in the flame.

However, he couldn't care less if this was the leader of the Earth Force. Sending pillars of lava up as well, he tried to re-muster his magic. Corrose gasped in his head. Magically exhausted. He collapsed, sending shockwaves of Shadow out to his foes. One message managed to arrive at its destination, though.

Corrose had called the Riders of Endor.

The battle of attrition appeared to have been won and Pendwil didn't feel like he had the surplus of time and fight left in the current body to test the theory. The burst of Shadow energy had taken its toll. He abandoned the artifact trader and the body fell limp, halfway atop the collapsed Dark Mage. Immediately, Pendwil fled to his secondary option. The left corpse of the two remaining in his little grim array twitched and jumped to a semblance of life, as he entered and took over her body.
She was a slip of a girl who had obviously stood no chance against the Earth Beast and its deadly sonic power. She was quite limber though, and he spared a fraction of a second to wonder what she had been doing here.

Then she rose and inspected her new form briefly, before unceremoniously fleeing the scene. The thanks and apology for Aeska had to wait. The Dark Mage's call for help had not gone unnoticed.

As she started to speed away, an orange glow formed around her hands - the fireproof fingers effect - but then it began to spread across the entire body, extending its protection to encompass all of the girl's corpse. The power had apparantly managed to transmute in a very brief span of time. A miniature emergence, perhaps?

Initially, the concern had merely been to put distance between his new form and Corrose, zigging and zagging at random to avoid any ranged attacks as best as possible. Abruptly, the girl spun and changed her direction, heading for the tree with the secret passage.

Aeska ran towards the trees of Cresthaven- the city was safe again. Corrose had finally been completely vanquished. She was glad he wasn't on her trail anymore. One thing was still nagging at the back of her mind. She'd felt a shadow message to someone... Hopefully it wasn't dangerous to anyone.

She finally reached the tree, seeing a slim girl standing near the passage. Something was wrong- she didn't look entirely alive.

"Penny?"

The girl turned towards the sound, or rather the feeling of running feet. Her youthful, slightly pallid face showed the faint glimmer of a smile and a hand slowly rose to give a girlish wave.

"Yes?"

The voice didn't belong to a young woman. It was monotonous. More like an articulated buzzing of flies circling a corpse.

The girl stopped suddenly as the other turned. A fuzzy "Yes?" emanated from the girl's body.

"Oh... Well, good to see that Corrose didn't get you. That would have been really, really bad." She smiled grimly, wondering what Penny was searching for.

(Sorry that this is short, I'm a bit rushed.)

The new body of Pendwil looked askance at Aeska in silence, for a minute or so. The face gradually changed to show puzzlement. Though it wasn't necessary for the body any longer, the eyes blinked, slowly.

"Yes. Yes. That would have been bad. At least from my point of view. How are you invested in the matter? I thank you for your timely intervention," the voice said, at length. The lips were almost moving in synch with the words.

Apparantly not waiting for an answer, the dead girl turned around and started looking after clues to the secret passage the others had used earlier. The investigation was quickly abandoned, however, and the dead eyes looked at Aeska again, though only briefly, before turning back to the ruins behind the Exulum.

"How long do you think we have, before whatever his final gesture was, manifests as trouble?"

Re: Silence of Wings

I had almost not checked this game again.
Apparantly, a good thing that I did.
Welcome back.
Let's get on with it.

Re: Silence of Wings

I'm back. After forever... I am very very sorry guys!

Re: Silence of Wings

This looks really interesting. Hope ya RP haven't died out yet. Do you have a spot open ?

Re: Silence of Wings

Of course. Sorry, I've neglected explaining everything.

Here are all of the Elements-

Water-
The Element of Water is control over water, storms, clouds, ice, and a little bit of weather. It usually lends the user a go-with-the-flow mindset. Water users are rarely ever seen in deserts, as they depend on much more water than any other. They can speak to marine life.

Fire-
The Element of Fire is control of fire, some heat, lava, and mirages. They are usually impulsive and hot-headed, but a patient Fire-user is a true danger. Fire-proof and hate water, especially the ocean. Also can start a fire on or from anything.

Earth-
The Element of Earth is power of stone, soil, gems, and metals. Its users are usually calm and peaceful, like Forest, but they possess the strength of ten men- without training. They can tunnel through Earth just by using a small touch of magic, and can create golems from it as well. As long as they're in contact with the ground, they will heal.

Forest-
The Element of Forest oftentimes can be a side power of Earth, but it includes plants, food(Natural, such as berries and nuts- Forest users never have to eat.), and sun energy. They're calm and peaceful, but possess an unusual fighting type combining martial arts with gymnastics. They can speak to plant life.

Spirit-
The Element pertaining to the spirit world is often thought of as necromancy or dark magic. However, these names have a reason, because Spirit users are able to suck life out of anyone who cannot resist, bring back the dead, and leech off other's powers. Spirit users like to know everything they can about anything, but they're kind as long as you're on their good side. They cannot stand in direct sunlight for very long.

Life-
Sort of Spirit's opposite, having power over healing, with the same magic-leeching ability, except reversed. The Life magician's, well, life will drain away while fueling chosen magician's power. It will regenerate slowly, however. Life users can't bring back the dead, but almost any wound can be healed by them. They're very friendly and hospitable.

Dark-
Almost as infamous as Spirit magic, Dark magic gives the magician power over shadows, blindness(Heal as well as give), and invisibility. They also have a limited ability with mind control/telekinesis. Usually introverted and aloof, Dark magic users prefer limited contact with human-like life forms. Dark magicians can speak to nocturnal animals, and have night vision.

Light-
Last but certainly not least, Light is Dark's polar opposite. They hold power over light, take energy from sun rays, speak to animals(daytime ones), and can have small amounts of Charm magic, which is the ability to imbue curses or blessings into any object. Usually blessings, however, because Light users are very outgoing and kind, and don't like seeing anyone hurt. They prefer the day.

That's just my quick summary of the magic; if you want to add or take away anything feel free to tell me.

Re: Silence of Wings

I don't suppose you could offer a few words of description pertaining to the elements of magic used in the game? I certainly have ideas, what they could be used for, but we may not agree, and this being your game, it is your ruling that goes.

Re: Silence of Wings

It was, but please remember to tag my character in your post. I felt abandoned again, and it turned out it was me who was tardy.

Re: Silence of Wings

Apologies if the last post wasn't enough for you to counteract.

Re: Silence of Wings

I made Charmeil, so if Pendwil is still there...

Re: Silence of Wings

Sorry, I'm not sure where to post, if Pendwil hasn't followed the two females into the trees?

Re: Silence of Wings

Too tired to post right now. Still here, though.

Re: Silence of Wings

Did the game die?

Re: Silence of Wings

A few more questions.

What is "sustainability" (in the 500-1000 years dead row)?

Am I reading something wrong, or are the dragons in fact missing from the world; which makes the appearance of Valaser rather spectacular?

Questions are welcome!

As I've said, I'm still trying to work through all of this, so here goes-

1. This just means how long you can keep up the magic.

2. Dragons are, in fact, mostly gone, being hunted nearly to extinction. This is why Virentia is in a rather secluded place, mostly impossible to reach unless by flight- dragon-back access. The Hatch, briefly mentioned, is what occurs when a clutch of dragon eggs are discovered. Exulum are quite rare in themselves, having possession of a certain set of skills. When Aeska receives the letter of Exulum acceptance, that merely requires that she requires a Hatch to see if she becomes bonded. So, yes, Valaser is a quite spectacular appearance in this story.

Virentia (I'll just explain it now) is more of a dragon nursery, where all of the dragons are raised. Some are bred, but it's fairly rare to find dragon's eggs. Once the dragon is a proper age, it will learn battle techniques, proper magical channeling, and other skills. The Exulum will obtain much of the similar training.

I hope that answered those accurately enough. If not, feel free to ask more questions!

Have a nice day!

Re: Silence of Wings

I see. Interesting.

Unfortunately, I will be out of touch till Wednesday. Carry on.

Re: Silence of Wings

Alright, Pazeem, I'll answer this as best I can.

Life Charges technically measure how much magic you're capable of using the time the you've been dead. So, if a spirit is under 5 years dead, then it could only produce a flicker of light. If it's a couple centuries dead, however, then it can draw on elemental powers, such as lightning and stuff. Here's a rough chart:

YEARS MAGIC
1-100: Basic magic, such as a spark in their palm. Can only sustain for a few minutes. (Use life element)
101-200: Longer sustainability (Up to 30 min)
201-300: Summon other types of magic (Water, Fire, Electricity)
301-400: Able to project elements, but not hurt anything except spirits with it.
401-500: Able to manipulate objects around them, such as wobbling pebbles.
500-1000: Up to a day of sustainability and complete control over Water, Fire, and Electricity. Also, basic possession.
1001-5000: Control lightning, some lava, and other elemental powers. Also, can use solid objects (E.G. pen and paper) in spirit form.
5001-10,000: Spirit's magic affects humans and animals directly, such as burning or drowning them.
10,001-100,000: Spirits can take the form of anything they like, be it animal or even a solid object, like a sword.

So on and so forth. Most spirits can only control their life element at first, and human spirits can only use magic by drawing on other organisms' life forces. For instance, if a human spirit was in the city, it would have to draw on the lives of rats and other creatures to be able to use magic. Oh, and by the way, if spirits come in contact with any source of topaz, the will become weaker, because that's a weakness to spirits.

I incorporated the Life Charges just because I don't want the spirits flying around being magical in people's way. Most spirits wouldn't do that, but I just want this to be fairer.

I hope I answered all of your question. If not, just ask!
Have a great day!

-BurningDark

How does the "Life Charges" statistic work, and what is it about?

My thanks.

I have posted, and hopefully to the satisfaction of, and without stepping on the figurative toes of, my fellowes.
