Derek McKenzie

-Persona -

-Name: Derek McKenzie
-Age: 26 (Quite mature for his age when it comes to his work)
- Starting Weapon: Knife, found at the Cafe. He figured that would be the best place to go, since cafes have food, which needs to be cut. With knives.
- "Static" device: His cell phone.

- Mannerisms: Whenever he sits down, he crosses his legs. A lot of his facial expressions are done by raising his eyebrows, while his mouth tends to do two things. Either smile, or frown. He tends to smile when he is nervous, never blushes or looks flustered very often.

- Relationship skills: Often tries to go off by himself, is very independent. It really all depends on how much he likes certain people. He is very loyal though, honest as well, and would never harm them physically. He pays attention to other people's feelings, yet he chooses whether or not to care for them.

- Habits: Bites his nails when nervous, very forgetful when people tell him to do something. Looks away at different things when in the middle of a conversation. He doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs, or anything, as he knows what it can do to a person. Often hushes people down, tells them to "Shh" if he is concentrating on something, and they even make a single movement or sound.

- Hobbies: Just lounging around in his apartment. Video-games, reading books on his field of work, being lazy and just hanging out with his pet dog, A Nova Scotia Tolling Duck Retriever named Kierra. (He's quite happy that the landlord of the place allows pets). He sometimes even enjoys his work as a psychiatrist, talking to the patients and stuff.

- Passions: Video-games. He really gets into the stories of everything, likes learning about the characters, even if it's all just a game. Also, his job. He worked hard to get it, he words hard at it.

- Favorite Sayings:

"Some things have to be believed to be seen."
"If you think education is expensive, try ignorance."
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

- Speech patterns: He tends to talk quite fast, especially when happy or excited. Often messes up words sometimes when speaking, and corrects them quickly. When he is irritated by someone, or thinks that someone is too stupid to understand, he will speak with thick sarcasm to them, and talk slowly, like they are an idiot or something. Pronounces a few words as people with different accents would, yet he really has just a basic American accent.

- Educational Background: Did good in school as a kid, and excelled at Science and Language, doing about average at Math and Social Studies/History. Never was able to remember all of the formulas and stuff for math, and the facts for history. After High-school, he went right away to study medicine, hoping to become some sort of doctor. He applied for a job at this place a few years ago, and assumes that he is a valued psychiatrist there.

- Character's short-term goals in life: He doesn't have many short-term goals. Get a better apartment. Finally finish story mode on all of his games. Get better at his job.

- Character's long-term goals in life: Build more patience throughout the years, achieve a larger, more beneficial job in medicine. Forget about the bad things he has done. Achieve vast amounts of knowledge. Explore the world, take trips. Find someone he actually likes. That's human.

- How does Character see himself/herself?: Thinks that he is above others, higher than them in the field of knowledge, yet not necessarily street smarts or physical traits. Thinks that he will achieve great things, and is some sort of great person that will change lives. Other than that, he is aware that he has quite a temper, so is trying to change himself.

- How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others?: He thinks that most people generally like him, and only a few that he doesn't like as well are his enemies. He is pretty sure that some people even look up to him maybe, just as he looks up to a select few. But really, most people think he is a lonely guy, kind of a snob, and sometimes just a jerk. Other who know him well know that he isn't as bad as he seems, but to people who don't know him so well, it's as I described before.

- How self-confident is the character?: Self-confident in his knowledge, deciphering things, and overall smarts, yet not so confident in his physical state or emotions. He can't help himself, in bad situations he will panic, and he knows that is a bad thing.

- Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof?: Mostly emotion. He will often speak before thinking, and regrets those mistakes very often. He will often say the first thing that comes to his mind, and if he feels that someone isn't doing something right (his definition of right anyway) then he will speak out. This is why he gets in arguments so often. He often blurts out things that he doesn't mean to say. When in a bad situation, things just get worse. Very rarely, he will be able to calm himself down and think things through. This happens every once in awhile, hf he's just not in the mood to argue with people, or feeling relaxed for some reason.

- What would most embarrass this character?: Most likely doing something stupid in front of people. Especially people he respects. You would think that him getting embarrassed easily by a lot of things would make him more cautious, but really, he is still as rash as he always is. He hates being wrong about anything or anyone, so being proven wrong also embarrasses him. And of course, people figuring out that he talks to his dog.

- Introvert or Extrovert?: Extrovert for sure. He feels more comfortable when he is around people. He is assertive, enthusiastic, talkative, blunt, etc. He gets bored when people aren't around him all of the time, and when he is alone, actually starts to get a bit panicked and afraid. The only reason he can stand to be home alone with no other humans, is because he has a dog to talk to (yes, he talks to his dog) and video-game characters to connect to.

- How does the character deal with anger?: Yells at people, takes it out on zombies in his games, talks to his dog.
- With sadness?: Writes it down, keeps to himself, talks to his dog.
- With conflict?: Argues, yells, fights for his side and opinion, gets really...passionate about it. Talks to his dog.
- With change?: Goes along and accepts it, for he know that he usually can't change it. May...talk to his dog about it.
- With loss?: Stays by himself, writes out his feelings, avoids people, tries to remember what he has lost as much as he can. Talks to his dog.

- What does the character want out of life? Knowledge. Simple as that.

- What would the character like to change in his/her life? The path he has chosen. He is now slowly realizing that his job probably isn't doing much for him, and he is just surrounded by crazy people.

- What motivates this character? His sister, Emilia. She has always motivated him from the time he was a child. Other than that, sometimes being in danger will help push him forward yet most of the time, he'll just get worse and panic.

- What frightens this character? Cats. Water, drowning. Being alone, being restrained or tied up. Losing people that are precious to him, such as his family members and his dog. Also quite scared of people he respects looking down upon him with disgust or distaste.

- What makes this character happy? His dog, his games, learning new things, teaching others, making others happy, getting something correct or right. Winning an argument or debate also makes him immensely happy. Basically, anything to do with succeeding.

- Is the character judgmental of others? He denies it, but he really is. When someone new comes along, he often judges them based on their appearance, and assumes that he already knows how they think, what they do, etc. He will still willingly talk to people, find out more about them, maybe even been proven wrong. But if he sees some guy dressed in a dirty shirt and sweat-pants, he may avoid that person, knowing that they are probably some lazy slob with no job or anything. (Okay, so maybe he does judge a bit harshly)

- Is the character generous or stingy? Despite everything else, he actually is willing to give other people things in order to help them. He will offer help as well, and very rarely expects something in return. He does simple acts like giving other people money, and most of the time, this leads to people liking him more, and figuring out who he actually is. He doesn't like people who are too greedy, and though he gives help often, knows when someone is just using him, and if it's a danger to himself or not.

- Is the character generally polite or rude?: Overall, you would probably think of him as a kind person. If he saw some homeless person on the street, he would give them money. In his speech, he makes sure to pay attention to 'please' and 'thank you', when the time comes. But if he's having a bad day, or doesn't like someone, he will use sarcasm, speak to them like they are stupid, put others above them and just constantly knock them down with verbal abuse. As he gets closer to people, he almost becomes more rude to them, constantly teasing them or bothering them about small things.

- Socioeconomic Level (child): Middle. His father was part of a large, wealthy company, while his mother also held a sustainable job. They had quite a bit when he was a child, nothing too extravagant, nothing too cheap.
- Socioeconomic Level (adult): Still ranging around the Middle. He has only this job, and an apartment with too many hobbies that cost too much (gaming can be expensive), but he gets paid enough, and is even saving for a better place.

- Talents/Skills: Very good at mind-games and puzzles. Loves solving riddles in spare time. He also seems to have a way with words, and is very good at convincing others. Often gets in arguments, but wins the arguments most of the time too. Other than that, he considers himself to be a...mighty fine player of video-games. He always played them in his child hood, and when he gets home from his work, he usually goes right to the couch to play. It may seem odd for a young man like him, but he finds it normal.

- Birth order: First.

- Parents: Father, Rodderick. Doesn't really connect to him much, for he was always on buisiness trips and stuff. Mother, Debbie/Deborah. He doesn't really see his parents much nowadays, but he liked his Mother the most when he was younger.

- Siblings: A younger sister, only by a few years, named Emilia. He really loves her a lot, they were like the perfect brother and sister when younger. They hardly fought or argued, and now, they are almost like best friends.

- Spouse: Doesn't want to be tied down in any relationships, though he has had a few girl-friends in the past. He just hates being restrained by people, so keeps himself from getting lonely by getting different pets, usually dogs.

- Children: None, and doesn't want any kids crawling around getting crap all over the place.

- Significant Others (describe relationship): A patient at the mental ward. He doesn't even want to think about it now, but the man had some form of a split personality disorder. The patient kept on threatening him whenever Derek was trying to talk to him to diagnose a treatment. He usually has an immense amount of patience for his job, but at this time, he just got angry, and said the first thing that came to his mind. 'Shut up, and go hang yourself.' Turns out that a few days later, the man actually had hanged himself, using his own clothing and tying them together. Derek claimed that he had no part in it, but it still haunts him to this day.

- Ideologies: Thinks that stupid people have no place in this world, and in more..rude terms, "are a waste of skin". Thinks that you must collect as much knowledge as you can through people and the world around you, teach others before dying.

- Who or what does he/she hate? Explain: He hates cats, after a childhood incident. (More information on this on the lower part of my form) He also hates hypocrites. It just irritates him to an extent where he could yell at the person. He also has a strong disliking for people with no ambition at all in life. He hates a lot of the patients in this place, but it bothers him about how much he hates them. He knows that he isn't supposed to feel like this, but it just happens to be like that. He is irritated by them, and his patience is running thin. He is pretty sure that he hates the job more than the people though, yet stays with his job in hopes that he will be offered another one, with even more benefits.

- Mental and/or Physical Illness: Walks with a slight limp due to a recent injury dealing with...dogs. And a staircase. He doesn't like talking about it. Other than that, he often puts a lot of stress on himself in tight situations, and constantly remembers what he has done wrong (sort of like a form of Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder). This can lead to hearing things, hallucinations, and perceiving things wrong.

- Character's Overall Fitness: Overall, he can do basic things, run fast for a decent amount of time, lift weights, but if he really gets over-worked, or stressed out, instead of motivating him to do better, it drags him down.

- Faith (Any kind of faith, even superstition): He's an atheist, but has a lot of random, scattered beliefs. Believes in the unlucky stuff, like black cats, and walking under ladders, the number thirteen. He believes in karma, yet doesn't always pay attention to it, and believes that beyond this world, after death, there is nothing. No judgment.

-If your character saw a shooting star, what would their wish be?: He doesn't believe in shooting stars, all this nonsense about wishes. But...if he was to finally decide, he would probably wish for an infinite knowledge of all things, all people. Just to...know.
-Why are you in Silent Hill?: (Currently Unknown)

- What is the bodily appearance of your character?: Dark hair, that used to be light brown but has seem to have grown into dark brown that some often mistaken for black. His hair is cut in longer layers, swept to the side, bangs covering his forehead and a bit of one eye sometimes. He has light blue eyes, and a round facial build that makes him look calm, and even emotionless sometimes. He has rather pale skin, and is just about average for height, taller than some, but shorter or same height as most. He often appears quite lanky, as he has low upper body strength.

- Any bodily markings? (Scars, tattoos, etc): Has a few blemishes here and there, but also three scars, like claw marks, on his upper neck. This is from his childhood. The family used to have a cat that they found on the street, and took it in. He never liked the animal that much, and it only frightened him more when he went up to try and pet it, and it scratched him in the throat. Just a young child consumed with anger, he easily got the small, stray feline off of him, and commenced with attacking it. He kicked it, stepped on it's legs. It stopped moving. Now, he was just plain scared, and the only thing he thought of doing was throwing the cat's carcass into the small stream near their house. He did so.

- What exactly are they wearing and why?: He's currently wearing a pair of jeans, with a white t-shirt and a dark brown jacket overtop, with a black scarf wrapped around his neck, and a silver wrist-watch. He is wearing this rather than his usual working clothing, is because he usually took his more official clothing with him to change into at the place. But since it's kind of destroyed by that crazy guy, he can't really do anything but have his belongings packed in a bag, ready to get to that new building.

So begins...
