At Jamie's comment about Sky's perfume Bella couldn't help but scoff slightly as she tried to sniffle a laugh as she looked over at him shaking her head. "Well, even if it's remotely sweet- I've always preferred spice, so I'm good without getting in on any of that," She replied gently leaning back and sipping from her can calmly, kicking her legs out in front of her like a child, she turned her gaze up to his for a moment when he questioned her and a moment of sincerity crossed her eyes like a thin cloud passes the sun in a strong breeze. "No but I'll hold up," She replied to him quietly, leaning towards him slightly so she could whisper her response because she really wouldn't get through a single day if anybody else ever knew. "And I don't know. I'm gonna try but I think my new nickname is gonna be Cinders as this rate," She said it like it was a joke but she didn't laugh, she wanted to but she couldn't. The whole thing with her Mother was beyond funny, she knew she was probably sensitive about it because it was directly her own problem but then again, if it was anybody else she wouldn't think it was something to joke about either. She looked at him and smiled a white but weak smile; "It'll be fine," She told him nudging his shoulder gently when everybody started swarming over the sudden arrival of pizza.
"But don't punch anybody, I'm the one that kicks ass at school," She reminded jokingly. "Has Jace's face gone back to white after I painted it purple yet?" She asked curiously because she hadn't actually seen him since the unravelling of those bitter but in hindsight slightly amusing events.
She let go of the serious conversation as the food arrived and she chucked her input of the money to Ellie before flopping back down into her previous position lazily. The smell of all the food kind of made her stomach churn a little, her Mother's new trick the previous month was to refuse to feed her or even let Bella feed herself and consequently Bella's appetite had been slaughtered because of it and it terrified her that it'd reached the point where even the smell was almost too much. She chewed her lip momentarily and sighed before throwing back another mouthful of beer and taking a deep breath. It'll be fine. She repeated the words she'd said to Jamie only moments ago to herself multiple times in her mind, no one could know anything was wrong so she had to eat and plus she didn't know if she'd be able to when she got home but that didn't make it easier to stomach the thought.
She looked at Alex as he addressed the group and she shrugged gently. "Jamie and I used to do it a lot as kids but this is the first time we've done it as group actually," She thought out loud trailing off and hugging her knees to her chest and resting her chin on them as everyone talked and relaxed.

He listened to Bella and Alex's conversation and nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, we usually just go to gigs or parties around the town but this makes a nice change- so much more chill," He commented in a genuine manner.
"Bella if I give you the Bluetooth speaker can I trust you not to kill anyone with heavy metal?" He asked and Bella just smirked at him from behind the hair that had fallen in her face and she shrugged softly.
"No promises deary," She chirped before catching the small but powerful speaker he chucked her way and then she turned it over, found the 'on' button and set about connecting it to her phone and it took her a matter of minutes to begin playing 'Bukowski' by a band called Moose Blood and it was a song she really loved and plus it wasn't anything like heavy metal so no one could get pissy about it. Nate nodded in approval to the song she put on and grinned offering a thumbs up across the camp.
"Good choice child," He commented humorously.

She laughed and passed her money to Nate to exchange to Ellie before she relaxed and accepted a piece of pizza, sitting back whilst she ate, some how managing to even make the consumption of fast food look reasonably elegant and graceful.
"Moose Blood?" She confirmed quietly when the track came on and Bella nodded to her and she grinned.
"Thought so, they're pretty rad if I'm honest," She commented casually and the other girl nodded once in agreement but was seemingly distracted regardless.

"Have we been to one of their gigs?" He asked Bella. He'd been to so many with Bella, he was almost forgetting which was which. They were all awesome- the atmosphere was incredible, and even when he didn't know the words to the songs, he could still sing along to some of the choruses.
"I think I've met them, actually," Alex remarked. "Moose Blood, you said? I've a feeling I played guitar for a band that was supporting them in a really small club. They were pretty cool guys."
"That's awesome," Jamie said after swallowing his mouthful of pizza. Balancing the half eaten slice on his leg, he reached over and retrieved a slice of garlic bread and a handful of fries, before taking a mouthful out of his beer.

She didn't recognise the song, but it was pretty damn good, even if she wasn't particularly one for pop punk. They seemed like the type of band that would be awesome live, regardless of it you knew the band or not. They were the best kinds of bands, if she was honest.
"Aw, I was half-hoping you'd say they were assholes so we could have a bitching session," Ellie teased Alex, before taking a bite out of her pizza. "Holy crap, this stuff is so good," she said around the mouthful of food. "I could live off of this," she remarked.

At Ellie's comments about the food, he nodded. "I know, it's so freaking good! He said, reaching for a piece of garlic bread. "Honestly, I understand. And, I mean, I'm pretty sure that you actually could live off of it. You have the major food groups right here, especially if you alternate the types of pizza," he remarked, grinning. "We're showing our punk pop side," he laughed.
He wasn't sure if it was just him or not, but he felt like the awkwardness was starting to dissipate. He and Sky had been accepted into the group almost immediately, and the tension that had originally been there seemed to be disappearing- possibly thanks to the alcohol and food. He'd been to enough parties to know that those two things usually helped get rid of any tension- until somebody got ridiculously drunk and started a fight. That was usually when Alex left.

She thought about it for a moment and then after a while, her expression lit up with excitement as she remembered. "Yeah, yeah we have- they supported Frank Iero when we went two summers ago," She told him. Bella took pride in her memory, especially when it came to gigs because although she'd been to nearly every gig to ever occur in Bristol- she remembered every one, headline acts, support and even warm-up acts like anyone who did something interesting at an open mic hour. She could often associate it back to her outfit as well.
"You met Mickey Chapman? I'm ridiculous jealous. He was like my teenage crush," She laughed jokingly before taking a swig of beer, her eyes widening slightly in fear it wasn't sitting right but she assembled herself and appeared to be just fine but she put her drink down and sat up straight again crossing her legs neatly and taking a deep breath.

"You okay Nat?" She uttered quietly.
Nate looked at her and smiled like everything was beautiful and grand and nodded, finishing his beer and casting it aside but he answered her.
"Yeah, yeah of course I am," He told her softly with a grin so convincing it was frightening before she finally withdrew and leaned back again leaving the subject to dissipate because she didn't know him well enough to realise he was lying.

"So, who have you played with or for before then?" Skylar asked Alex turning her attention for a brief moment out of curiosity and to just in general to keep the conversation going.

"I was totally in love with Avril Lavigne for a few years. And then Hayley Williams. And then Lzzy Hale," he remarked, laughing at himself a little. There had been a while where he'd genuinely believed that he was going to marry her, and when his parents had broken it to him that that was probably not going to happen, he'd been heartbroken. He cringed a little at the memory, but mostly just laughed. Now that he had some alcohol in his system, he was relaxing more and more and could feel himself coming out of his shell.
"You've only had pizza two or three times? You poor, deprived child. Pizza is the food of gods," Jamie remarked, taking a bite out of his own slice. "And yes, that includes the vegan stuff," he said, laughing. He resisted the temptation to add something like "and it's even better because no animals get hurt!" Even though that was what he thought, he didn't want to come across as preachy, even if it was only a joke. Didn't want to overwhelm the newbies.

She poured her own drink when she got back to the group, leaving the various items for everyone else to mix their own. She stayed silent for a bit, just drinking and listening to the others talk. She wanted to make some comment to Nate, something to counter his, but the moment had passed, and now it would just seem petty. So she kept her mouth shut and ate her food, listening to the others chat. She knew that Jamie and Bella were relishing the break, and she didn't really want to ruin their night, but she wanted to tear Nate to shreds.

"Ah, nothing really that big. I'm mostly just tracking for and playing with local and smaller bands at the minute. The only time I get to meet anybody famous is if the band I'm touring with is supporting them or if I happen to meet them in the recording studio while at the water cooler," he joked. "But, all joking aside, I met Austin Carlile at a festival I just so happened to be playing at once. He's such a cool dude," he remarked.
As Ellie appeared with the stronger stuff, he leaned in to mix his drink. He didn't feel like getting flat out drunk, so it was mostly Coke. "But yeah, I'm slowly working my way up the ladder. I'm tracking for this up-and-coming indie band next week. I was doing my research on them, and apparently they're going to be the next Arctic Monkeys. So I'm definitely going to do some networking there," he said, laughing a little as he took a mouthful out of his Coke. "What about you? Had any brushes with famous people?" He asked.

"What? Are you okay? I know France is slow but I didn't think they were so slow they didn't have pizza," She chimed jokingly offering a small passing smile as she spoke. "To be fair, I actually think the Vegan one is probably nicer, Nate don't kill me," She called back dramatically but when she looked over at him she realised he was far from in a joking mood and so she didn't enforce the humour and instead fell quieter.
She kind of wanted to talk to Nate, she could see how low he was feeling and really wanted to try and cheer him up because he'd been moping around that way all week and although she hadn't seen him because she'd been of school, she'd heard enough about it and everyone had been saying he'd been smoking a thousand times more than usual and skipping his classes which he very rarely ever did anymore since he finished AS. She'd catch him at some point, she told herself and tell him to pull himself together and give him some big motivational speech teaching him how to get on and live with things but for now, she tried to make up for it by passing him a drink when he finished his first knowing he wasn't much of a spirit drinker and offered a reassuring smile.
She had to admit, she'd already taken a shine to both Alex and Sky- they both seemed really relaxed and laid back which was kind of all you needed to be to make it in this kind of friendship circle, they were both really different too and though Skylar stuck out like a black sheep, she was getting on with everyone fine and Bella was always welcomed someone who could have a drink and a laugh, she also privately reckoned Skylar had an eye for trouble and might suffice for a possible partner in crime some day.
"You met Austin Carlile? That's fucking awesome," She laughed nodding in approval. "Yeah that sounds pretty great," She commented, a very notorious drinker of coke and vodka, it would have been expected of Bella to be the first to dive in on mixing herself an almost straight glass of vodka with less than a capful of coke in it but the idea didn't at all appeal to her tonight and so she pretended to turn a blind eye to the alcohol like she hadn't even noticed it was there.

Maybe he'd slept with Skylar but he had not done it to annoy Ellie, even if they were still friends he would have done it because why not? Skylar was attractive, she had a nice personality- they'd agreed no attachments and he was single. He would have done it regardless, inviting her to the camp out? He would have done that also because he'd moved around enough to know how hard it is to make friends, especially in the middle of the year. It wasn't all about Ellie and Nate sometimes wandered if she actually realised that but he recognised that thought as being an incredibly harsh one and he winced slightly with the guilt.
"Damn Skylar only twice in 18 years? You're wasting your life. Get some pizza down you for hell's sake- it's basically my own religion," He told her jokingly though strictly speaking he was Christian he wasn't the best one considering he swore, fought people and smoked but he did honour the commandments to the best he could and he went to church on Sunday the majority of the time but he didn't follow the bible literally and he didn't preach either which is why very often he could be light hearted about joking about religion. It wasn't the be all and end all to him but he appreciated having something to have faith in, even if it was occasionally quite hard to keep believing in.

"Oh really? Yeah, Of Mice & Men singer right? I'm not really that into them but I've read a lot about him, he's pretty down to Earth and admirable to be honest," She commented passingly as they all talked about different things. When questioned on brushings with celebrities, Skylar noticeably paused before answering of course she had close connections and new many people from the French modelling and fashion industry and many of those individuals had arguable celebrity status but she didn't want to give them that stereotypically impression of herself so she tried to think of something else, something less related to the reality of her life.
"I once saw Micky Flanagan- you know, the comedian in a museum," She shrugged with a small smile and she could recall the event well even if she hadn't probably spoken to the man other than a brief 'Good morning' as many would consider polite when passing somebody by. As she began to think about it she'd even be recognised a few times herself growing up, she could remember a French mother approaching her whilst she was eating breakfast in a coffee shop to ask her if she was the girl out of the 'Boden' catalogue and Skylar had felt genuinely ashamed to say 'yes'. She loved modelling but the stereotypes and the demographic people trapped her in because of it always made her feel so small and pathetic which is why she was going to try and keep it from a secret from everyone in Liverpool. She didn't want to carry on that burden here.

"Aw, no way. Did you get a photo or anything?" He asked Sky, before taking a mouthful out of his drink. It was strong- a little stronger than he'd anticipated, but not in a bad way. If Ellie and Nate kept up with this whole 'barely acknowledging each other' thing, he'd need to be drunk to deal with it. Once nobody started a fight that required him to break it up, they'd be fine. His co-ordination went out the window once he was even a little drunk, which was why he so often ended up on the floor. And why he never drank before going on stage. Or, at least, never drank that much.
"Remember that time we met that actor, Bella? When we were down in London? Who was it again?" He asked, glancing over at her.

She pulled out her camera and started taking pictures again- of the fire, of the figures silhouetted against it, of the treeline, of the bags piled by the tent. Photography was her own little world, where she could relax and forget Nate for even a few minutes. She wanted to go for a walk around and take even more photos. She wished she had a tripod, so she could get even better shots. But she had a pretty good opportunity here at the fire, and she wasn't going to waste it.

"Festivals are a great way to meet famous people, especially when you have access to the artist's area. The trick is not to act like a total fangirl and act all cool about it. Just a brief tip for you," he said, looking over at Jamie, who laughed and nodded. "So once you don't meet Lzzy Hale, you'll be fine," Alex remarked, grinning at Jamie. "I was seven!" Jamie protested, but his laugh gave him away a little.
As Alex glanced over at Sky, she suddenly looked incredibly familiar. He frowned a little. "Hey, Sky, you didn't do a music video with a band called The Pretender, did you? I was on that shoot, and I have a feeling that there was a girl that looked an awfully lot like you there. The one with the rival band who basically steals The Pretender's lives and girlfriends, and then they pull a Fall Out Boy on it and it turns out all to be a bad dream?"

"You're joking? He's bloody hysterical. I'm jealous," Bella told Sky grinning softly, Bella had quite a guilty pleasure for stand up comedy, she'd dragged Jamie along to open nights a couple of times in the past but she usually went by herself if there was one going on just because it was so easy to get a bus into the city and be spontaneous about it that way. God, if she'd seen Micky Flanagan in the middle of a museum she wouldn't have stood aside so casually, she'd be diving over to meet him and try and pick a joke out of him on the spot even she understood they spent time and effort writing their sets before the gigs that she so privately adored.
"Ur...it was Hugh Dennis wasn't it? The guy from Outnumbered. I think it was at least or was it the guy who plays the Headmaster in Inbetweeners- I've confused myself now," She sighed in defeat at her own frustration and shrugged her thin shoulder sheepishly about the matter instead of trying to rake her memory for the correct answer.

He looked over at Skylar with a raised eyebrow of curiosity at Alex's comment about Sky and his expression filled with wander, had she? She hadn't mentioned to him about doing any modelling, acting or anything musical. She'd purely kept it to the fact she'd dabbled in the fashion world due to a curiosity about textiles but this was the complete other side of things and he did know that the music video Alex was talking about and it kind of rung a bell for him, he couldn't argue either way but it sort of made sense a little when he thought about it enough.

She couldn't lie because they could easily Google it and find out she had been, so she nodded slightly brushing her long blonde locks behind one ear.
"Yeah...that was me," She replied her tone significantly quieter to how it had been compared to everything she'd said previously and Nate raised his eyebrow slightly nodding.
"Really? Sounds pretty rad," He shrugged casually.

Jamie nodded as Bella remembered who it was. "That was it. That was an awesome weekend," he remarked, grinning a little as he took a mouthful out of his drink. His eyebrow arched as Sky admitted to being in a music video. "No way, that's awesome! That's one video more than me," he remarked, laughing. "Maybe that'll all change now," He said, half to himself. He knew that it was probably the alcohol, but he genuinely felt hopeful. He felt like things were going to change from here on out. But only if he stayed tipsy. He grinned to himself and took a mouthful out of his drink.
"You know what we should do? Truth or dare. Cause a little bit of trouble," he suggested, grinning at Bella. They hadn't played it much, but every time they had, somebody out of the group playing it had confessed or did something scandalous. Never anything to cause any permanent rifts in the group, but enough to give them something to gossip about for a few days. And then it was forgotten and they moved on to something else.

Ellie wasn't entirely surprised when Sky said she had been in the music video- she was ridiculously pretty, after all. But in a perfectly effortlessly way that told of an expensive skin and hair routine. It was a miracle if Ellie did anything more than brush her hair in the morning.
"So you're an actress? Nice. I'd say you've been asked to model as well," Ellie remarked. She was that rich-model kind of pretty. Ellie found herself being a little envious of Sky- but not jealous. She was thinking that Sky deserved better than Nate, if anything. She probably had tons of cute, rich, French boys falling at her feet. She could do better than an over-protective, over-possessive asshole who didn't apologise for any of the above.
At Jamie's suggestion of truth or dare, she rolled her eyes. "Oh man, I'll need more vodka before that," she remarked, taking a mouthful out of her cup. "Somebody here's going to end up crying, I'd put money on it," she said, laughing a little. "That's not to say I'm not playing, though, I'm just saying that I'm expecting tears." She'd played truth or dare before and somebody had admitted to cheating, and somebody else had lost their shit over something somebody did in a dare. It had been hilarious.

"Ah yes, I knew it was you! That was an awesome shoot," he remarked. He didn't get to be in that many videos, what with just doing touring and studio, but he'd been friends with the band in question, so they'd gotten him to be the douchebag singer of the rival band. It had been hilarious. He'd also been in a few other music videos of theirs, but they'd all been a little more serious. He'd even died in one of them.
"Truth or dare- count me in. Jesus, I haven't played this in years." At Ellie's comments about people crying, he laughed a little. "Wow, things never got that serious when I played it. It was stupid shit, like 'who do you like' or 'drink this lethal mix of alcohol'. Nobody ever cried," he commented, taking a mouthful out of his drink. "You guys must have a lot of baggage if you end up crying," he teased, receiving a playful slap and glare from Ellie. "Okay, fine, I meant you guys must be the best of friends if you trust each other enough to expose information that reduces you all to tears," he said, looking over at Ellie. "Better?" He asked. She grinned and nodded.
(Hey, listen, it's fine. Things can get a little hectic around this time of year, I understand!)

Arabella looked at Jamie slightly surprised by his suggestion, she didn't have a problem of it or negative view on the game it was just slightly out of Jamie's character, she'd played it with him before but she just didn't assume he'd be the one to raise the idea of it but being her outrageous self she grinned slightly and laughed- it'd be the perfect distraction from her mood. She moved herself closer into the group, sitting next to Jamie but making more of a circle with Nathaniel on her other side who also shuffled to complete the shape so their positioning was all a bit more sociable and everyone was less divided up and isolated.
"Sure, why not? Dear Maria, count me in," She chirped to the group, smirking sheepishly because of the obviously very deliberate reference she'd made to one of her favourite All Time Low tracks.
"Almost as good of a song as a Love Like War," Nate commented and Bella rolled her eyes.
"No fucking way, get out. Anyway, Sky you in?" Bella asked looking over at the blonde.

The reputation.
"I don't really do involve in any of that anymore though, thank you though" She commented softly, squeaking a little with nerves when she replied to Alex, she was just so terrified to be judged by any of them and waste this new opportunity at calmity. She should have lied and denied it but she was too sweet hearted for it and lying was in any case wrong. At the mention of the game, she threw herself into it just for the change of subject.
"I'm all in," She chimed flashing a white smile to cover over the awkward tension that had been radiating from her expression for a short while.

"Yeah, I'm in for the laugh but I think it goes without saying we don't tell people shit afterwards because knowing you guys, god knows what the fuck you'll make each other say or do," He joked lightly running a hand through his over grown hair and brushing it back slightly and the traces of spray in his hair helped it hold the shape just a little bit better than it had been before and his hair laid flattened and neat, like the way he'd always wear it for school events like prize giving ceremonies or when he'd given an assembly to new arrivals on the engineering courses available. It looked the way it did whenever he was putting the effort in for something but was actually completely unintentional for once.
He avoided looking at Ellie, he'd put all his efforts into building bridges and having a laugh with everybody else there- he didn't have to sulk around just because Ellie was here too because if she wasn't, he knew he'd be far more involved and practically at the heart of the fooling around and so he would be. So what if Ellie was there? It'd been easy enough to let her in so how hard could it be to block her out?

Jamie grinned as everyone said they'd join in. He didn't know why he'd been so worried about this, everything was fine. He took another mouthful out of his drink, as the circle tightened a little. Part of his brain told him that maybe he should ease up on the drink a little- and another part of his brain told that part to shut the fuck up, the alcohol was the only reason he wasn't off in the woods having a panic attack over something stupid.
"Oh, we can use this," he said, pouring the last of the bottle of Coke into his cup and setting it on the ground. He topped his cup up with a little more vodka, before leaning in and spinning the bottle. When it came to a stop, it pointed at Alex.
"So, Alex. Truth or dare?" Jamie asked. Alex thought for a second. "Truth. I'm not drunk enough for dares," he answered with a grin.
"What's your biggest regret?" Jamie asked, sipping at his drink. Alex thought for a second. "I dunno. I don't really regret that much," he said, laughing a little.
"Bullshit, you have to say something," Ellie said, elbowing him. "You're telling me you've never regretted that tongue piercing?" She asked, winking at him a little. "Sometimes. Wait, I have one- the band I was in when I was 19, we were all going to get tattoos. We all got the band's logo tattooed somewhere on our bodies, and I got it on the back of my shoulder blade. I ended up getting laser treatment on it a year later after the band broke up because it turned out that the drummer was banging the singer's sister and there was a huge argument and yeah. So I regret getting that tattoo." Jamie laughed and nodded, indicating the bottle. "You spin."

A model. She was a model, and she was still hanging around Nate. That was bullshit. She definitely had guys falling at her feet in France, and here she was with him. Ellie found herself tempted to tell Sky everything about Nate- but was Nate even hiding from Sky? If he wasn't, why the fuck was she with him? Ellie had barely been able to stand him as a friend. Benefits or no benefits.
She laughed at Alex's story, fixing her pony tail as she did so. She didn't feel like Sky was a threat any more- after all, she clearly had no clue about why she was there. She came across as a little naive, poor girl. Ellie would really need to sit down and have a good talk with her and warn her away from a certain somebody. And Ellie didn't need to compare to her. They were nothing alike- it was like comparing a field of flowers to a wildfire.
She grinned and leaned in as Alex spun the bottle. She resisted the temptation to raise her eyebrows as it landed almost squarely on Nate. "So, Nate. Truth or dare?" Alex asked.

Did she really want to do that?
It could be a laugh, she'd played the game with Jamie and others at parties plenty of times but only with groups who completely trusted each other- everyone involved and she wasn't blind to the fact Ellie didn't trust any of them and Sky and Alex had no reason to feel comfortable with the game but before she could contemplate her own feelings about it everyone was diving in on the idea and people would question her if she said no, she was Arabella Swift- she practically invented the game back in high school and was the Queen of it during her first year of college, so how could she wuss out now?
"Alright, I'm in," Bella shrugged eventually like she hadn't spent far too long worrying over it.
She listened to Alex's story and chuckled lightly. "Really? Your biggest regret is a tattoo? I could never regret any of mine, they're like my babies," She chirped humorously touching the sleeve on her right arm for a moment with a light laugh. She'd never really thought about it much after she got it down, it was just there- like a birth mark or something, she wasn't completely used to seeing it that it was like it'd been there forever even though she'd got it done slightly illegally when she was 17 by swaying the mind of a tattooist through the art of seduction and through offering to pay extra for it. He'd known better but she'd gotten the tattoo regardless and she'd gone back to him for others on her left arm afterwards so there was a certain amount of loyalty there now.

"How have you guys even got yours done? The tattoos that is, don't you have to be like 18?" Sky asked whilst they were still on the topic. The dark haired girl- Bella, she smirked a little and laughed.
"Well, I used my feminine charms to sway the tattoo artist's mind. Christ, I'd only just turned 17 and still had the elegance of a squirrel walking through jam- don't know how I pulled that off but I did somehow," She shrugged. "My Mo-" She started on another point but stopped herself and coughed a few times to cover it up and then grumbled something like; 'fucking weed' as to offer an excuse but Sky didn't press the matter, maybe she'd gotten a little carried away with the story.
"Damn, I'd never have the guts to get one down illegally- I mean I got a couple of small ones which are easily hidden but anything else and before I was 18, no fuck that. I wouldn't have even walked in a parlour to think about it," She laughed smiling at the other girl contagiously.
She chuckled gently at Alex's story and then looked at Nate waggling her eyebrows at him jokingly. "Decisions, decisions Nathaniel what's it gonna be?" She asked lightly her thick French accent seeming more apparent for a moment in how her voice broke a little with a soft laugh that was almost more of a giggle but not quite so sharp or high pitched.
Sky was ever noticing more and more things about the group, one being that Bella and Ellie rarely smiled but Bella often seemed to smile at Jamie- if anyone at all and she noticed how Nate and Ellie seemed to be evaluating every single the other one did with their glances and were trying to secretly guess how the other felt and what they were thinking- she'd figured they'd fallen out but she couldn't understand why, no one else seemed to be involved so what could they have done to each other? One thing she admired though was how naturally calm Jamie and Alex seemed to be, especially Alex considering he didn't really know any of them but then again, she was doing the exact same thing herself so maybe it wasn't such an admirable thing after all but rather just something that came with maturity.

When the bottle landed on Nate he just shrugged calmly and laughed at Sky pulling facial expressions. "And oh dare of course, Ellie could tell you how I'd never say anything else- unless restrictive rules applied, I'll always say dare," He shrugged, glancing at Ellie for a moment before looking over at Alex with a brief grin and then he arched his brow. It was true whenever Nathaniel had been brought into a game of dares, since he was 15 years old he always said 'dare' unless rules had suggested you couldn't pick the same choice twice in two turns and he knew Ellie couldn't vouch for it but he didn't expect her to when he thought about it realistically. He just wanted to try and remind her of how cool they used to be, when they were friends and could actually laugh and smile around each other- he'd kind of taken to granted that she'd always be around and now it was dawning on him things weren't going to get better this time, it was starting to truly make it's mark on him- that much could be told by the little things in his appearance that he'd started letting slip because there was no one to remind him that he looked like shit or an absolute mess and there was no one to keep up with anymore either so what was the point at all? Sky was just desperate for some friends, that's the only reason she stuck around with him and once she found her standing in the social structure at college she'd wave goodbye from the passenger side of the Rugby captain's Porsche or something. He didn't care that much about that, he just wanted everything to go back to how it was before, how it still should be.
"So what will you all have me do to humiliate myself? I'm pretty good at it naturally but still," The end of his sentence came out harshly but far more quietly, you'd have to be really listening in (which nobody really was) to catch on to what he'd said but he looked up as he took a mouthful of his beer in order to finish the bottle so he could move on to Vodka like everybody else. He finished his beer and discarded the can into an empty crate where a pile of rubbish seemed to be collecting then he poured himself a noticeably strong vodka and coke before leaning back and looking at the group expectantly, his actions were supposed to be cocky but his aura of false arrogance which he always used to wear as a part of his humour and to mask his insecurity had faded to the point where he just looked like he was rather clumsy instead.

Jamie laughed at Alex's story about his tattoo. "I just waited until I was 18," Jamie admitted, shrugging a little. "And then got them in close succession," he added, laughing a little. Ellie looked at him, an eyebrow raised. "You have tattoos? I don't think I've ever seen them. C'mon, show," she ordered. Jamie rolled his eyes a little, taking a mouthful out of his drink. "Alright, well, I have this one here-" he said, rolling up his sleeve and showing them the one on his bicep. "Second star to the right and straight on till morning," he added, pointing to the two stars and grinning.
"Then I have this one-" he said, pulling down the neck of his t-shirt to show the one above his heart. He didn't tell them what it read, though- that was for him to know. He got to his feet and turned around, pulling up his t-shirt to reveal the semi-colon on his back. "And that's all of them, for now at least."
"Well, that explains why I haven't seen them, then," Ellie said.
When it came to Nate's dare, Jamie grinned. The dares were usually the best fun.
"Drink an entire bottle of-" Ellie started, but Jamie cut her off. "No, Ellie, Nate is not going to drink an entire bottle of vodka. We're not trying to kill each other here," he said, and Ellie rolled her eyes. But mischief still shone in them.

"Run into forest," she started, but held up a finger. "Entirely naked. No underwear. Well, you can wear your socks and shoes and that's it." She knew how to get a little bit of revenge on him now without making it clear what she was doing. She could disguise it all as a joke.
"It's either that or jump into the lake in the middle of the forest, also naked," she said. "I'll be generous and offer you a choice." She smirked at him.
"Jesus, Ellie, I didn't know you were so desperate to see Nate naked," Jamie said. She'd never seen him so open and relaxed before- or see him drink as much. It was pretty unusual, and she made a decision to text Bella.
"BTW, fully intending on stealing Nate's clothes and hiding them. Be my accomplice? also is J okay? I don't think I've ever seen him drink this much. like, in total."
"I think I've got competition," Alex remarked, nudging her gently. She laughed and nudged him back. "Not likely."

He hadn't known what to expect from Ellie's friends- but he'd been pleasantly surprised. They all had their similarities to Ellie while also being incredibly different personalities. They were an unusual bunch- but not in a bad way. He did, however, get the feeling that there was more to them. Jamie's tattoos were more than just those of a teenager wanting to get tattoos- they clearly meant something to him. He knew there was more history to Ellie and Nate than either of them were letting on- and not in a good way. He'd seen Ellie's barely contained glares. He was an outsider- but in reality, he was okay with that.
"So, Nate, what'll it be? SKinny-dipping or streaking?" Alex asked, grinning at the other boy.

Of course, after his two options were issued Nate jumped straight out without fear and Bella could only roll his eyes and laugh gentle- his spirit was probably his best and worst quality, she'd give him that.
"Oh fucking hell," She chuckled after Nate announced his decision.
Bella looked at her phone and arched her brow at the text. She wasn't stupid, she knew exactly what this was and she wouldn't be a part of their games- she didn't want to be dragged into that but it made her stomach churn how she asked about Jamie but she ignored that part of the text because she didn't want to admit her own anxieties about it.
You go for it but I don't want to be a part of it. I don't blame you and I'm not judging or anything but I don't want to piss off Nate- we're friends and I know this isn't just a joke to you guys but like I said, go for it if you want to. Bella was a rapid texter and she was subtle too but only because she didn't want Jamie to notice that Ellie had asked about him.

She noticed how in succession of each other, the two girls checked their phones and she kind of wondered what they were up to or planning because if it was conversation it'd be said out loud but maybe they were just confirming an idea for a dare or something or checking up on each other- Sky didn't know and she didn't care much either.
"I can't believe you're actually going to do this," She scoffed but the blue eyed charmer just shrugged at her with a crooked grin.
"I said dare didn't I? You really think I'd pussy out? God Sky, I thought you knew me better than that,"

"Good point Jamie. I thought you were over that phase El," He joked sarcastically and to anybody else it wouldn't have meant a thing but he knew it'd get to her even if it was just to agitate her a little bit. He knew she'd pick up on it. "But yes, I shall swim because I don't even want to think about what kind of shit I could accidentally step in if I run around," He laughed, he took of his shirt whilst he was still sat with the group revealing him as the skinny guy he was but he wasn't really embarrassed about it- he was toned enough to throw a solid punch he didn't need much else behind him. He walked off to the pond and stripped down without shame because at the end of the day- what was the point in that and then he jumped in, cursing loudly afterwards.
"Fuck!" The voice was slightly higher pitched than usual for Nate and he burst into laughter afterwards. "Holy shit, oh my fucking Christ this is cold. I'm not even sorry for my language it's that bloody cold," He gasped between chuckles.

Jamie just laughed as Nate stood up and started to strip, draining his cup. He hadn't realised he'd been getting through it as fast as he had been, but hey. This was the one time when he could.
"Hey, Nate, is there something in the water behind you?" He called jokingly.
"The swelling might cause an improvement," Ellie remarked- not quite yelling it, but loud enough for everyone to hear. Jamie just winced. Ellie wasn't a mean drunk- but Jamie was willing to bet that, with some alcohol in her system, her filter would shut down, and god knows what she'd say to Nate then. The grin on her face gave away everything she was thinking.
"How long should we leave him there?" Jamie asked, looking at the others. "Long enough for another drink, or should we just go ahead and prepare a meal?" He asked teasingly, glancing at the others.

Ellie glanced down at the text and rolled her eyes, texting back a reply to Bella.
"spoilsport. also you didn't reply about j."
She didn't push it any further than that, guessing that Bella didn't want to talk about it. But as soon as Nate was in the water, she grabbed his clothes and shoved them into the first bag she found- which just so happened to be Sky's, judging by the quality of them. Even better. She headed back down to the water and watched him, smirking him.
Once upon a time, she would have dive-bombed into the lake after him- but not today. Today, she just wanted to sit back and watch and try to embarrass him and turn Sky away from him as much as possible. He didn't deserve Ellie and he definitely didn't deserve Sky. Ellie had seen her blush at the thought of Nate being naked. And Ellie was willing to guess why that was. She really needed to take Sky aside and have a really good talk to her and tell her how Nate really was. And then, well, that was all she could really do. But until then, embarrassing Nate as much as possible would do. Maybe Nate would snap and show his true colours and make her life much easier.

"Right so tell me- how come you guys aren't cool yet? You guys always make up, it's kinda weird you know. It's okay- I get it if your done with him or whatever but just tell us what's going on, please it's so awkward. I know about the gig obviously but is that really it? That's hardly the worst thing he's ever done," She asked quietly enough so that maybe Jamie could over hear but no body else would pick on her words accurately so they could understand. She read the text but didn't reply to it because she was sat next to her now, so they could talk and besides she didn't want to talk to Ellie about Jamie. If she was going to talk to anyone about it, it'd be Jamie because she didn't think it concerned anybody else.
She smiled softly over at Sky when she noticed she'd grown quieter but she didn't speak to her, she was preoccupied trying to get an update out of Ellie. She wasn't being nosey, she just wanted things to go back to how they were because she had enough drama at home without everyone falling out.

The more he thought about the whole thing, the worse it made him feel and he sighed floating about in the water but keeping his waist below the surface for obvious reasons. He ran his hand through his hair and it stuck back on his head and he exhaled cold air which pooled in front of him. He probably shouldn't be swimming considering he'd smoked and already drank a bit but what was the point in worrying about it? The only person who'd care anymore if something went wrong would be his Mother and she was strong enough to move on.
"Fuck, why am I ever thinking about that?" He groaned to himself.
He sighed and swam around a bit more to the edge and then called out to the group. "Jamie, Bells or Sky- any of nice people here, how long do I have to stay in here?

At Ellie's comment, Jamie glanced at Bella, biting his own tongue. But as Bella moved to talk to Ellie, Jamie decided that it was a conversation that the two girls needed to have- not him and Sky. So Jamie edged away from the two girls a little and beckoned to Alex.
"Well, I only became official during the week, but the rest of the band's been together for about two years," he said. Alex got the message and appeared beside him. "Yeah, I've been playing guitar for them for the past year. Their own guitarist tracks both guitar parts, but obviously he can't play both live, so I fill in when I'm not on tour."
"You'll have to come to a show while you're still here- speaking of which, how long are you in England for?" He asked, glancing at Bella and Ellie. Neither looked particularly happy- then again, Ellie's mood had steadily been getting worse all evening, so he could only imagine what state she was in now if she'd been confronted. But Bella had a point- Ellie was being unnecessarily mean to Nate. The incident at the club hadn't warranted any of this behaviour. He glanced over at Nate. "Yeah, Nate, you can get out. We won't leave you hanging any longer," he called.

Ellie folded her arms as Bella confronted her. "You really think this is just about that?" She asked, laughing a little and raising an eyebrow. "This has been a long time coming. You saw the arguments as much as I did, Bella. It was just a matter of time. It wasn't the first time he'd done something like that. Even though he knew I didn't like him smoking around me, he still did. I could have forgiven all of that- but then he went and got with another girl," she said, nodding towards Sky. "Somebody the exact opposite to me. Sky's pretty, rich, gentle, and everything I'm not, and that isn't a coincidence. You're a fool if you think it is. Why else would he bring her here?" She asked. "Now, stay out of my business and go check on your boyfriend," she spat, stalking back over to the campfire and refilling her cup.

Alex hadn't missed the disagreement between Ellie and Bella. Ellie was really showing how much of a spitfire she could be, and she looked furious. As she stalked away to the campfire, he turned to Sky and Jamie. "Sorry, guys, gotta go deal with this," he said. Ellie was sitting on the ground, her legs crossed and staring into the fire like it had personally offended her. He sat down beside her, crossing his own legs.
"Are you okay?" He asked. She didn't answer for a few seconds- but when she did, it was accompanied by a heavy sigh. "Yeah, things are just... complicated," she said, shrugging a little. He put her arm around her and she didn't resist. "I gathered as much. You seem like a complicated bunch," he said, laughing a little.
"Do you mind that?" She asked, and he shook his head. "Nah- complicated is interesting. And fun," he said. "So. Is there anything you want to talk about specifically?" He asked. She shook her head. "I don't want to talk about anything by that. Let's just get on with this game," she said, looking up at the others.

She got up and walked away from Ellie and her smile quickly replaced itself as she took her place with Sky and Jamie and moved on like the conversation had never happened. "Hey, the original circle got kinda disorientated. So let's just call it my turn for the sake of keeping things going, so who's going to ask?" She asked with her signature mischievous smile- the smile she'd give before she pulled off one of her fantastic secondary school pranks or after she'd won a just argument. Just that smile anyone could relate back to her and never know she was covering something up. She grinned at Jamie and Sky but gave Alex a small smile of regret when he passed her to go see Ellie.
Maybe she shouldn't have got involved but she couldn't sit around and watch Ellie hurt Nate with everything because she knew it'd only come back to haunt Ellie.

She leaned over to grab a cup and the vodka and began mixing herself a drink since she was the only one left to move on to the spirits but she poured it weak because she knew she was a lightweight and she didn't want to embarrass herself, not on what was her first real opportunity to find a place in Liverpool and actually make some friends, real friends for once in her life.
"Good call Ellie, yeah you go Bella," She chimed trying to move along from the brisk negativity that had caught them all for a moment.

"Ellie. Where are my clothes? No body else would do it, so just tell me," He sighed standing a good distance from the others so the darkness of the growing evening would leave him with some amount of cover and dignity. When that was drawn to attention, Bella and Sky started looking around for them but neither of them came to any avail and Sky wouldn't have thought to check her own bag simply because she hadn't taken the clothes anyway. "I would quite happily sit here with no shame to be frank and you know I'm not joking but I don't think that'd be the gentlemanly thing to do- so where are they for Christ's sake?"
After a moment, he shook his head. "Screw it, I'll get something out of my bag," He walked off to his car and grabbed out what he could find clothes wise from his bag.

Jamie grinned at Sky. "Thanks- yeah, my old band kinda fell apart, so it's good to have something to jump straight back into. Music is just such a huge part of my life that it's weird to imagine doing anything but playing music," he said, shrugging a little. He'd been playing music for as long as he could remember, and he never wanted to let it go. "And sure, come along! Don't mind Alex trying to sell you merch, he designed one of the crewnecks and thinks he's god's gift to mankind ever since," he said, grinning over at him. He appeared to be trying to placate Ellie, though, so Jamie dropped it.
He sat back down in the circle beside Bella, refilling his cup as Nate realised the absence of his clothes. Jamie didn't have to think too hard about who the culprit could be. He stared at Ellie across the fire, who caught his eye and shrugged. This whole situation was messier than anyone but Ellie and Nate knew, and they weren't telling. Well, Nate probably would with some pressing, but Ellie wasn't. Ellie was just going to cause as much havoc as possible and enjoy every second of it.
"Watch you don't flash anyone, Nate honey, nobody really wants to see that," Ellie called, her voice coated in an insincere sweetness. Everything she did seemed to be to antagonise Nate, and she didn't seem to have any problems with that.

"So, Bella, truth or dare?" Ellie asked, leaning in a bit, her smile still on her face. She was honestly starting to wish she'd never come- between Sky's bloody perfection and Nate's 'oh woe is me' act when it came to her, she was feeling vaguely sickened. She should have gone out instead. Or even just hung out at the house with Alex. But here she was- so if she had to be here, she may as well have some fun.
And Bella daring to say that she was making Nate feel bad. Nate had made Ellie look weak, which is the one thing she wasn't. Nate had always seen Ellie as somebody weak, somebody who needed protecting. She was going to show him that she didn't need protecting, that she could stand on her own two feet. She didn't need him defending her. She didn't need anybody or anything. Well, apparently there were a few things she did need, but she was going to cut one of them off before long. Her doctor had said that going cold turkey was absolutely not an option, not after this long. And then he'd had the balls to say that he didn't think she was ready for another reduced dose.

She sighed as Ellie asked her and raised her shoulders in a shrug. "Truth I suppose," She shrugged sipping from her drink casually, crossing her legs in front of her. Bella was normally a person to say dare but she didn't fancy swimming and if she had to do anything similar to what Nate had done someone was likely to see the fresh scar on her stomach and even worse, old ones on her legs and it so wasn't worth it and if Ellie was giving out the dares it was bound to be something brutal especially since she'd confronted her.
"Come on then, Arabella Swift being a completely open book- bound by the law of truth or dare to answer one honest question, what's it gonna be?" She laughed looking up at them all expectantly. She could guess they'd go for something awkward like a question about her feelings for Jamie or something embarrassing like who her first kiss was but she'd rather that then her do any kind of dare and it go wrong.

When Nate re joined the group she looked at him before laughing lightly. "I can't believe you really did that," She laughed out loud as she thought about it properly and shook her head. "You're insane. You'll get sick," She pointed out but the boy just shrugged at her and took a long mouthful from his drink. Sky did the same because she felt under pressure to keep up with the others and to drink at their pace even though she wasn't at all used to drinking like this.

He went back and sat close to the fire to try and warm himself through again because he was shivering and slightly pale for his dare. He didn't show much interest in the game after that and he lit up a straight Marlboro light and tucked it between his lips, he didn't want to get screwed up intoxicated tonight- he just wanted to relax which wasn't likely to happen with Ellie around but it'd be easier if he wasn't totally shit faced either.

Ellie grinned as Bella called truth. She didn't even have to think that hard to come up with something that would shift the drama entirely away from her and Nate and that would end up being the story people actually spoke about.
"How do you really feel about Jamie? The full, unabridged truth," she asked, leaning her chin on her hand. Everybody knew how things went the other way around- even Sky probably knew about it by this point. Everybody at school and their grandmothers knew. Nate had probably briefed her on it as well. It was pretty important to understanding the dynamic of the group. She glanced over at Jamie, who had turned a strange pale green. Part of her worried that she'd done the wrong thing- but at the same time, she wanted to see how this would work out. And it would be memorable, if nothing else. Her treatment of Nate would be nothing in comparison.

He could practically see the mischief in Ellie's expression. He knew the question wasn't intentionally malicious, that it was probably only meant to draw the attention away from her- but he really wished that she'd asked something... that wasn't that. Something ridiculous, ideally, but literally anything else would have been better than that. He took a long drink out of his drink, wishing the there was a hell of a lot more vodka in it. Enough to knock him out until this was all over, ideally.
(ahh, sorry this is so short!)

She felt sick.
She was trying to think of a way out of answering, she could kick off but that'd cause too much drama for her liking or she could run away but that wasn't fair on Jamie not by any means. She should have told him before, when she was at his, at the hospital, at the gig- months ago, she would have chosen any of those times over now- Christ, she'd even rather telling him whilst she was bleeding out in her bedroom whilst on the phone then telling him now, at least then it wouldn't have been public.
She opened her mouth and closed it again. Her breath caught in her throat and she swallowed it out of fear, if she continued to hold it she'd just panic.
What if he hated her for it?
What if it all went wrong?
What if he ditched her?
What if they all laughed?
A long time passed idly with awkward silence and Bella looked at Ellie pleadingly. She bit her lip, swigged an obscene amount of Vodka which had been so mixed so little with coke it might as well be pure and then she looked up, she caught Jamie's eye for a second but was too anxious to hold it, so she spoke to the cup in her hand and locked her eyes on that.
"I feel, I honestly feel like the complications, implications, details, meanings, consequences and depth of my feelings towards Jamie are a personal matter that only matter to the two of us. I think everyone basically thinks they've worked it out anyway and if you have an ounce of social understanding you're probably right but I seem to recall Ellie, telling you to worry about your own relationships and not mine," The response was incredibly defensive and in truth it gave it all away- even Jamie who she tended to convince to trust her every word as it was would probably see through her now. They all could probably see her natural instinct to panic had at first halted her breathing but now quickened it and the hand holding her cup seemed to quiver a little but her facial expression was strong and unwavering as she stared into the cup. She wanted to look at Jamie, see his reaction- pray he hadn't taken it the wrong way and that he understood but she couldn't. She wasn't so brave.
"I left my filters in the truck. I'm going to go grab them now," She mumbled quickly getting up and leaving an empty cup on the ground behind her, along with her jumper which she'd taken off a while ago after the fire had started to heat up and she walked off to the truck. She was burrowing through the glove box for a long while afterwards before she found her box of roll-ups, she didn't usually smoke a lot of cigarettes but she'd found it to be good at calming her anxieties and she really didn't want to have a panic attack right now because by a pond, in the middle of the woods, surrounded by alcohol and weed- she didn't want to be in a mind set that would be damaging or destructive. She needed to keep it together. She sat on the bonnet and pulled one knee up to her chest resting her head on it before she sparked up the cigarette and took a drag, leaning back on the window screen to look up at the sky as she tried to gather herself again.
{I'm sorry. I got so carried away with writing this post, I just find Bella so easy to write and don't worry about anything being short, I do the same sometimes when I'm struggling or think a character isn't too relevant for a moment.

She was about to pipe up and tell Bella not to answer and that no body could expect her to like this but then Bella stopped drinking what Sky thought was an insane amount of drink to take in one go and explained, very defensively but she explained o her side and Sky sighed gently- she'd been suspicious before from the girl's sneaking glances all the while but it was crystal now that the dark haired girl clearly liked him. She thought about trying to comfort her or talk to her but Bella didn't seem to be the kind of girl who appreciated sympathy and she figured the only one that could put her out of this kind of misery was Jamie so she was a prisoner to her spot on the ground and she didn't move, speak or react and by this time Bella had excused herself to walk away and get her cigarettes, so that to she nodded.
She felt awkward after that and she exhaled looking down at the fire. "That was intense," She breathed trying to break the ice but failing quite badly. "Sorry," She added quickly when she caught up with herself.

"Bell-"
"It's fine, I need my filters," She replied without looking back and she continued to wander off.
He sighed and looked at Ellie, shooting her the cruellest of glares. This was too far. Ellie could rip into him all she liked he- he deserved it, he was such a let down he deserved everything he got but Bella hadn't done anything and even if they didn't know the details she clearly had a lot of shit going on without Ellie drama considering her school attendance records and ever changing moods and attitude. She'd also gone from being the over achieving rock queen of their school until they came back from the summer. So something had to be going on, he couldn't be the only person to work that out but he figured Jamie would know all and be looking after her and the situation. That's why he never asked but he didn't understand why Ellie had to ask that in such a way.

Bella's words felt like an ice cube down his back. He didn't know how to take that. He'd just been so fucking wrapped up in trying to keep his act together that he hadn't been able to read her messages, and even now, through the haze of alcohol, everything was blurred and starting to scare him. He needed to get away from here. He needed to get away and breathe. And with all of this toxicity in the air, that wasn't going to happen.
He put his drink down on the ground and stood up, brushing himself down. "I- uh- need to go gather my thoughts. I'll be back before long so- so don't have too much fun without me, okay?" He didn't want to walk, that wasn't enough. Part of him knew that driving was stupid- but he wouldn't be going far. Just driving somewhere else. He'd be fine.
He dug his keys out of his pocket and climbed into the car, starting the engine. He took a moment to reconsider- but around that fire, he felt like he couldn't think. He needed to go somewhere, somewhere away from Ellie's destruction and all of the tension and the confusion. He pulled away, setting his phone in the cup holder beside him.

For fuck's sake. All she wanted to do was have a little fun, and everybody had to take it personally. As Jamie strode off to sulk, she got to her feet. "I'm going for a walk. You're all a bunch of party-poopers," she said, stalking into the woods. But deep down, this all felt a little too familiar in a way she didn't want to admit. She was pushing them away, just like she pushed everyone away. And it brought her right back to her pre-rehab days, when all she'd done was destroy herself and her relationships. And honestly, she wanted to destroy something. But this time, they wouldn't be as willing to welcome her back when she fucked up. She'd ruined all of this, just like she ruined everything.
And it was all fucking Nathaniel fucking Carlile's fault. Why the hell was he the one who had broken her? He'd made her feel weak, and not in a good way. She sat down heavily on a rock and sighed. Sometimes she just wished she'd kept herself to herself. But now it was too late for that.

Ellie was... destructive, this evening. He'd seen her drunk before, so it wasn't the vodka. Had she come tonight with the intention to ruin as many relationships as possible? Because now you could almost feel the tension in the air. He looked up and knew that he should follow her- but also knew he should try and explain.
"I'm really sorry," he said. "I don't know what it is- I'd blame the alcohol, but it never made her like this before. Is there.... Was there a fight I don't know about?" She'd struck him as the type of person that would be- there was so many unspoken secrets with her. She was a master at avoiding topics she didn't want to talk about- but she never started anything like this over it. God knows, she would have broken up with him by now. This was a different Ellie, one he hadn't known about.

Immediately after she knew she shouldn't have reacted to the question, just bullshitted and said something about him just being her best friend and lied but she couldn't keep pretending she was okay with the dishonesty and Ellie's manipulation of everybody. Jamie was the person she needed more than anyone, he always had been since they first became friends- she'd never relied on her Mother, nor her father or a sibling; the only long term relationship or friendship she'd ever maintained was Jamie and now he was climbing into his car drunk and she wanted to stop him, more than anything she wanted to stop him but she blamed herself and didn't want to make things worse by talking to him but she couldn't let him.
She was still sat on the truck and finally her voice betrayed her and struggling to look up she called over to him from where he sat in the car next to hers.
"Jamie please, please don't drive," She croaked anxiously. "We're all drunk and there's too much out here, trees, rocks- it's dark. Please don't risk that," She mumbled pushing herself off the bonnet and standing up, still leaning as she tried not to let the raging rush of her emotions overwhelm her. The weak side of her just felt like bursting into tears after everything last week, her exhaustion physically and emotionally, her desperation, her physical pain- it was just too much. It was all so intense she could feel the atmosphere prickling against her skin like a thousand tiny needles. "I know this is a lot. And the atmosphere has gone to shit and everyone's breaking down but Ellie's gone off on a walk. We can all calm down now but please, don't take that risk if not for your own sake, for mine and for music- whatever it is that will convince you to think twice,"

Nate sighed harshly and looked at Alex and stiffly nodded. "Yeah. There was," He mumbled.
"There are two people I truly care about in this world- my Mum and Ellie. No offence to anyone, they're just the people I've relied on and been there to rely on for since day one. You know without the romance, she was basically what Bella is to Jamie, to me. And I was raised to look after women- my Mum's old fashioned, she's always taught me to be a gentleman you know the shit so I've always been protective of people," He admitted all of this with a certain amount of ease but not pride, he used to be proud to say he'd been raised right and knew how to look after people and be a genuine guy but since Ellie happened, he'd felt ashamed of it. Like he was wrong to be that way but he took a sip from his drink and then continued.
"But at that gig- your gig, some guy started trying it on with Ellie and Bella was being weird- I think she felt sick or something but this guy- he wouldn't leave Ellie alone and I felt responsible y'know, like I had to look after them and he pissed me off, he was in arsehole you just can't be like that with girls you don't know- fuck that, any girl. It's just not right and basically, I had a bit of liquid courage going on and I punched him. Ellie being the proud independent stubborn son of a bitch she is was offended, thought I'd make her look weak and that I was taking the piss. I don't know- I still can't pretend I understand why she's angry at me about caring for her and looking out for her but she was and now she wants to ruin me, probably Sky too since we've been hanging out," He sighed miserably and looked over at Alex apologetically, he felt awful for the guy. He'd truly got a bit fucked over getting dragged into all of this Ellie drama in such a way.
"And Bella. I don't know why she went for her but everybody knows how her and Jamie are- it's written all over them. She knew what she was doing when she asked that truth," He sighed and looked like a guy who was broken, in truth he had been ever since that gig. He'd felt terrible from the very moment he caught Ellie's eye- full of disgust, after he'd thrown the punch. He knew he'd fucked up but he couldn't take all of the drama anymore. "I can't fight with her like this. She doesn't care about me anymore- if she ever did when we were friends but I care about her too much to let her do this to herself and to everyone else around her. I'm not fighting with her but I'm not going to not stick up for them, they haven't done anything wrong here. It's just me," He explained everything and speaking about left it a hollow pit in his stomach that only got worse with every breath.

[font=Times New Roman] Skylar's heart broke a little bit for every single person that from their now broken circle in that moment. She could see how much Bella was struggling- Jamie too and Ellie, she wasn't a bad person it wasn't as obvious why but Ellie was clearly hurting because of something too which is what drove her to sneak off whilst Nate was engrossed in telling the story of the argument and Alex was busy listening. She got up and followed after Ellie, she didn't except the best reaction but sometimes it was easier to talk to a stranger.
"Hey, Ellie?" She called softly when she caught up, standing in front of her looking small and actually slightly scared but still hopeful. "I know we're not friends or anything and I suppose you've got a pretty bad impression of me because I'm with Nate but I like you y'know and I want to help. So go on, tell me. I'm a stranger- I can't judge you, I've got no one tell and no interest in gossip. So just tell me how he hurt you so bad because trust me Ellie, I've heard a lot about you and he adores you- even now," She mumbled lightly.

He sighed as Bella spoke to him. He knew that everything would be fine if he stayed, that they'd manage somehow- but he knew that if his head was just a little clearer, he'd be able to do what he always did. Pull everyone else together, make them laugh a little, distract them from what had happened. He just needed a clear head, and he wasn't going to get that here.
"Bella, I just need... I just need to clear my head. I'll only be gone ten, fifteen minutes. I promise. I won't go far and I won't drive fast. Don't you worry about me- I can hold my liquor a hell of a lot better than you'd think," he said, grinning a little. He just wished that it wasn't because he was used to drinking until he blacked out. He started the engine. "I'll be fine. Fifteen minutes, tops. Promise," he said, before reversing out and heading back out onto the road.
He turned on the stereo, turning it back up to the full. The music blasting around him was as grounding as is it ever was, and he could already feel his thoughts starting to clear. He'd be fine. They'd all be fine- once Ellie stopped trying to destroy everything around her. Ellie was an enigma to everybody. He'd thought that he'd known her- but recently, she'd been showing another side, and he was realising that he didn't know anything.
And Bella. What the hell did she mean by what she'd said? Did she feel the same? Or was it all just a big, complicated mess? He'd been too busy trying to keep it together to try and read her- and besides, she hadn't been in school, so he hadn't even been getting signals from her. They needed to talk. Everyone needed to talk.
Suddenly, the glare of another car's headlights drew him out of his reverie, and he looked up. There was a deer right in front of his car- and unless he swerved, he'd hit it. But he'd end up hitting the other car instead, and that was worse. So he did the option that seemed to cause the least damage. He swerved the car straight towards the barrier and the trees.
The car slammed straight into the barrier, throwing him forward- but his seatbelt tried to pull him back, and the casualty was his shoulder or his collarbone or something in that general region. All he was aware of was a crack and then intense pain. But the car didn't stop moving, it went straight through the barrier and started tumbling, throwing him and his broken bone around. He blacked out before the car had even stopped moving.

Ellie looked up, ready to verbally attack whoever approached- but she held her tongue when it was Sky. Of all people, she hadn't expected her. Fuck's sake, that girl was just too perfect. Ellie sighed at her question. "It's... It's complicated and it's messy, and..." But she needed to tell somebody. She couldn't just keep this all bottled up- so far, that had only brought destruction.
"Sky- anything I tell you, you don't tell anyone else. I'm serious. Under any circumstances," She said, moving over on her boulder a bit and patting the spot beside her. Jesus, if she was going to talk about this, she'd need somebody right beside her.
"I... I used to be a junk- an addict. Heroin and all sorts of crazy, stupid shit. Like, if you think I'm destructive now, you should have seen me back then. I tried every kind of drug going. I wasn't happy- but the thing about heroin is that it's crazy addictive. And I ended up OD'ing, and ended up in rehab. And back then, I just felt so fucking weak," she said. She stubbornly wiped her eyes with the heel of her palm. She wasn't going to cry. Not after all of this.
"And I've just been building myself up since then, trying not to go back- and I'm clean, I'm still clean except for alcohol, but I just... I just hate feeling weak. And Nate treats me like I'm a fucking porcelain foll. No matter how many times I tell him I can stand on my own two feet, that I want to stand on my own two feet, he doesn't listen. And I know he's only trying to help but he just doesn't listen. He just keeps doing the same thing and he treats me like I'm weak and... I know he doesn't mean to do it but I just hate it so much." And there she was, in tears. She laughed a little bit.
"There goes my stone cold bitch facade, huh?" She remarked. "And- I know everyone wants to help but I just don't want to let anyone in, so I just push everyone away and destroy every relationship I can as soon as they get too close. Nate never asked questions, but I just... couldn't any more." She'd been expecting some massive weight to lift off of her shoulders, but nothing. She was still scared and still angry.

Alex listened to Nate speak and realised exactly how little he knew about Ellie. He hadn't known any of this- she was an expert at changing the conversation away from things she didn't want to think or talk about.
"I think... I think there's more to Ellie than any of us really know. God knows, that girl wouldn't tell you what's on her shopping list. There's something about her, something that I don't think either of us know. And she's not planning on telling any of us, that's for sure. And I'm not excusing her actions I just... I think we need to try and figure out why the hell she was acting the way she was, if nothing else," he said. He hadn't wanted to get that deep with Ellie- but if she was going to keep being so destructive, then he needed to know something. He needed some answers.

She stared him straight in the eyes as he spoke, her dark ones harshly on his- not in accusing way but like everything with Bella, it was an intense stare and the most primary emotion within it was total fear. "Jamie," She pleaded quietly. "No you can't so I'm begging you Jamie, don't," She begged him gently but she could see his mind was set and though it left her feeling sick and her gut twisted with anxiety. She was powerless to stop him. He'd go no matter what she said. She wouldn't even nod to him though. She just turned around and tried to lie to herself.
He's not drunk
He'll be fine.
It's okay.
She didn't believe herself and she quivered with unease, she went to sit on the truck but stopped. This was ridiculous isolating herself just because of her emotions for Jamie. She should apologise to Ellie and sit back down with everyone, knock back some drinks- have fun but Jamie, he'd sent a chill from the top of her shoulder blades to the tip of her spine and her whole body shuddered. Although being a heavy drinker from time to time herself, drunkenness had already been something that frightened her when she wasn't intoxicated enough to not see past it- and the story of an intoxicated youth, slightly emotional at a party taking off in a car and winding up hurt was just so sickeningly cliché.
"For fuck's sake Jamie," She whispered to herself. She made her way back to the group and picked up the bottle of the vodka, pouring a large quarter full into her cup before she sat on her knees and tossed it back down her neck in a manner that scorched her throat painfully but she turned her head, closing her eyes slightly as she swallowed it back but the attempt at relief was in vanity because the second her eyes opened again all she could think about was Jamie in that car.
How could she let him go?
She needed to know he was okay but the car had only just gotten out of sight and she knew she was being completely paranoid about it all. He'd be fine- this was Jamie she was talking about he was the most rational person she'd ever befriended, which maybe wasn't saying much because considering who she was but Jamie was sensible. He'd be ok.
She prayed so at least.
"You two okay?" She asked gently. "I'm so sorry for what I said. It's just, it's obvious I guess- my feelings for Jamie aren't as black and white as being best friends and it's hard to accept or talk about but I'm sorry you guys had to get caught up in it," She spoke to Alex, Nate and Skylar directly with an expression of shame. "He'll be back soon. I'll talk to him, straighten this out," She promised quietly.
n a t h a n i e l

"Oh I know that. It's so obvious with Ellie she had secrets but I never asked- I respect her, she knows every skeleton in my closet by name and identification pin but I don't know her past and I'm okay with that, if that's something she needs to keep to herself or settle her ends with. I'll never pry or think she owes me that knowledge. I know somethings troubled her once upon a time ago but if she needs me, she knows I'm here- even now, so there's obviously something. I just always hoped she'd tell me in her own time I guess," Nate shrugged helplessly, he looked up at Bella and shook his head.
"No, shut up Bells- it's cool. You didn't really do anything. We did all know though. Don't apologise, we'd all have done the same I reckon," He told her calmly- maybe normally he'd have told her she shouldn't have kicked off so much, that everyone was close enough to deal with the truth maturely but Bella wasn't the big deal here. It was Ellie. That was his priority and main concern.
He looked up at Alex. "I think it's time we talked this out- what do you think?" He asked, second guessing himself as always.
s k y l a r

She sat besides her as Ellie tapped the space and she fell into it cautiously. "Ellie, anything you tell me in confidence- stays here on this log. I won't say a word. You have my word and in my family, that stands for something," She assured her gently.
Skylar's eyes widened a lot in surprise, she wasn't sure what caught her off guard more- her story or that she'd actually opened up to her. The more Ellie explained, the worse Sky felt for her but she didn't let on to any sympathy it was clear that was the last thing Ellie wanted from anybody.
"Ellie, honestly- I seriously fucking admire you for what you've just done, not only pulling through it but for telling me. That's actually kind of amazing to be honest and to think I couldn't even choke up the confidence to tell you guys in Paris, I was climbing towards the peak of a modelling career," She mumbled genuinely sounding ashamed of herself for it and she wasn't sure what she was more ashamed about, hiding the truth or the actual career she'd pursued. She'd wanted to be intelligent and do a career that helped people and had fallen into the trap of posing for cameras but someone like Ellie, who could fight through so much and still be strong enough to put her trust in a complete stranger- Skylar couldn't think of someone she'd want to be more like. In five minutes Ellie had probably changed Sky's whole impression of her- except the bad ass part, Sky still thought Ellie was really bad ass. "Honestly, I didn't think you were much of a bitch anyway. You're good at dramatics but you're a shit actress y'know- it was pretty clear you weren't messing," Skylar teased gently laughing lightly giving the other girl a small smile.
"If you want to know what I think. I think you should have told Nate the real reason to why you felt so offended by what he did- not necessarily tell him everything, no body could expect that of you but just tell him you couldn't handle people thinking you were weak. He really cares about you Ellie- he kept talking about you as if he'd forgotten about the argument and then looked kind of depressed afterwards and wouldn't talk for a while, don't throw that away- give him a chance to change, talk to him," She encouraged softly.
"A good friend goes miles you know. Back home, I didn't have any real friends- I had friends but they were there purely for social status climbing, finance, gifts, gossip and to sabotage. I would have killed to have something like you and Nate do. He'll understand," She mumbled gently.
"I know you think he never listened to you before but he would now. In the car he was asking me for advice- if he should talk to you or wait for you to talk to him, he never told me what happened between you guys but he misses you like hell," She told her with a small laugh.
"It's adorable," She joked.
