Introduction

Welcome to a different world. In this world, civilization collapsed some time ago. By war, plague or industrial accidents, much of the world is left bare and barren. Many plants struggle to grow, and getting much from crops is difficult. With no electrical grid and few working generators, technology is a rare commodity. Many dangerous, mutated creatures roam the land, making life quite hazardous who venture out alone.

Most humans exist in small, highly superstitious, village communities. They shun all things that are different out of fear, and one particular being, born of human parents, it regarded with greater suspicion and terror than most.

They are known as Changers, or Skinwalkers. They could be identified from birth or shortly after by subtle, but strange traits that they carried. They might have sharp teeth, claw-like nails, or slits for pupils. Some might have feathers instead of hair, or display odd behaviours, like chasing after mice or howling at the moon...most frightening to the humans however was that they were able to change their forms, and take the shape of an animal. People could not explain this, so they thought that their powers had to be evil in origin.

People dealt with the birth of a Changer by banishing them when they became old enough to fend for themselves, sending them into the old ruins, and telling them in no certain terms that if they were seen again, then they would be spared none of the same mercy.

While life was hard for humans in this harsh world, it became all the worse for the Changers. Alone, and with few skills of their own, many starved or were killed by the mutant animals. Others lost their humanity entirely, becoming nothing but savage beasts.

Many, on the other hand, banded together into packs in order to increase their chances of survival.

The City. No-one remembered its name. It had been a big one certainly, but its identity, like most of the residents, became lost to history. The climate was dry, water was rather scarce, and mutant activity in the dark areas of the ruined buildings set most beings on edge.

Humans avoided the city, and the areas round it like the plague, preferring to settle in the hills far to the north, leaving the area to the Changers...but it meant that quite a high population of beings fighting over few resources.

Within the city ruins, one pack ruled. They were known as Cru's Army, after their militaristic attitude, and the name of their leader, a changer who could take the form of a huge mastiff. They had constructed a makeshift fortress beside the old reservoir where the troops lived, and around it lived other Changers under the oppression of the pack. They farmed, hunted, foraged or scavenged, and Cru's cronies would periodically show up and take much of what they earned for themselves. They had a brutal response to any disobedience, mutilating and injuring any dissidents and leaving them out in the ruins to die or be eaten by mutants.

The Stranglehold Cru has had on the area has resulted in the death of many Changers...but something is about to change. An assortment of outcast, exiles and loners, forced together by the adversity of the ruined territories are about to give the army a serious problem. Known simply as The Pack, they would become figures of legend...assuming that they can keep their throat intact.

Changer Types

Barker: One of the most common types of Changer, and also one of the strongest physically. They can take the form of dogs. The breed and traits depend a lot on the personality and genes of the person. Barkers are very sociable and don't like being alone, they are extremely honest and loyal, however they can be extremely brutal and aggressive in situation that warrant it. They sometimes struggle to get along with Maos, and have a long-running distrust of Todds.

Mao: A Mao is the second most common changer, and can take the form of a cat. Most become domestic cats, though a few, referred to as 'Great Maos' can become something larger, like a lynx or a bobcat. Such an occurrence is rare. No Mao has had a form larger than a lynx. Maos are very intelligent and perceptive, very good under pressure, however they are also cold and aloof, often arrogant. They often look down on Barkers, seeing them as stupid and needy.

Feather: A Feather can take the form of a bird, generally either a dove or a crow, rarely as a small bird of prey like a kestrel or buzzard. A Feather is distinctive by the fact that they'll often have a few feathers on their body or mixed in their hair, even in human form. They also have very brittle bones in either form. Feathers are often very gentle and artistic, and are great singers....on the other hand they are often hesitant to intervene and help others, at least partly due to their own fragility.

Bandit: Bandits are able to take the form of raccoons. They are usually very accomplished thieves and foragers, known to be the ones to come to in order to find food or items if they can't be acquired anywhere else. They are naturally witty and humorous, though sometimes come across as rude and tactless.

Spinner: Spinners are a rare form of Changer able to take the form of spiders, though most avoid doing so due to the vulnerability this creates. Most take the form of venomous spiders when they do. They are somewhat unique among Changers that they retain much of their animal advantages in human form. They are able to climb walls, and their bite keeps a paralysing venom. Spinners are uniquely intelligent, cruel, often sociopathic individuals. They will join packs, but seem to have little interest in the social aspects, generally looking on others with disdain.

Todd: Todds are fairly rare Changers who can take the form of foxes. They are quite independent, cunning and charismatic. They are skilled hunters and tend to be very adept at survival, however they are often selfish and out to further their own agendas before others. Todds have a verse tense relationship with Barkers and are naturally fearful of them.

Squeaker: A Squeaker is a changer able to take the form of a mouse or rat. Due to their ability to pass unnoticed in most places, they are often employed as spies in packs, and due to their lack of natural defences, many are bullied or threatened into the role. Squeakers are generally small and physically unimpressive in their human forms, though tend to engineer things to avoid fighting. They are generally quite caring, but ultimately cowardly. They are terrified of Maos.

Nickname/s: (If any.)
Age:
Gender:
Role: (From the list.)

Appearance, Human Form: (Text, picture or a combination.  I'm not going to enforce a picture style, I'd rather if you were going to use and image that you find one that best represents your character rather than worrying about a uniform style.)

Appearance, Animal Form: (As above.)

Skills: (What can your character do that people might want to know?)

Weaknesses: (A few things that might bring about their downfall, real ones please.)

Personality: (Doesn't have to be detailed if you want, but explain their general demeanour.)

Brief History: (If there are things you want to keep secret you can be vague in places, but some recent history needs to be put down to make up local rumours and such.)

Attitudes: (Will be filled out as the RP goes on, a short line regarding each character they have met and their attitude towards them.
eg: "I don't trust Hati, she looks a bit shady.)

Toggle Rules

1) No godmoding or power playing. I understand people have a certain amount of character pride, but try and think about whether you want them to win because it'll make the plot more interesting, or because you just want your character to look badass.

2) Be polite and patient. Acknowledge that everyone has a life and does not always have time to RP, and in turn others will do the same. If you have to leave to a long period, please make it known and try to tuck your character away somewhere that the story can continue, but they can come back in reasonably easily. Have them take a nap, or go looking for food or similar.

3) If you are leaving permanently then please say so rather than leave everyone hanging. No-one is going to bite your head off if you politely state that you either can't do the RP anymore, or want to back out. It's better people know for definite so the character slot can be opened up again.

4) Stick to the limitations of the type. The Changers are not meant to be uber-powerful super animal gods with 1333 mad skillz, they can become animals, that is it all and those animals won't be able to defy physics, so keep that in mind. There's supposed to be a certain sense of vulnerability.

5) Interaction is so important and an RP is at its best when everyone is included. However it also helps having everyone pulling in the right direction. I don't mind you coming up with little sub-plots of your own, but please consider whether implementing it would be entertaining for everyone, or just a vehicle for your character. Putting in some sort of vicious wildman to plague the other characters is fine, but seeing someone walk off and be randomly attacked by their evil twin/ex/parent/housepet out of the blue for no particular reason is a bit dull for everyone else.

6) It's a harsh world so violence can be expected, and it possibly inevitable, but try not to scar anyone for life with the post content.

7) Romance is a part of life, and is permitted in Skinwalkers, and if characters start getting close, that's all fine and good.HOWEVER that doesn't mean that your character should jump the nearest member of the opposite (or same) sex. There are dozens of RPs out there that you can find a companion for your character and skip through fields of flowers holding hands, there are, I'm assuming fewer where you can play a shapeshifter in a bloody power struggle, so try and make sure any relatioship don't grind the plot to a halt.

By the time they arrived, Cru had reverted to his human form – every bit as fearsome as his mastiff form, but significantly more charismatic. It meant little, however, considering his cold demeanor.

It was rare – no, this was the first time that Cru had allowed anyone other than his dear wife, Tatiana, into the privacy of his work room. That alone should have been enough to alert them that what he was about to say held significance and was to be heard in the appropriate manner. The one who dared to touch any of his belongings… he’d see their blood before sending them to Colai, even if it was his higher ranking officers. However, they knew this. He was sure there was no reason to worry, although he made sure to give each of those officers entering a meaningful look – the threat in his eyes was evident.

As he stepped into his familiar work space, his boots thudded heavily, familiarly onto the wooden floor. The room may not have been grandiose, lavish, or vast, but it was clearly Cru’s from the darker hues, the strict structuring of it all. Everything was sharp and inline, organized, in dull and sophisticated shades and design. A chair of similar qualities stood behind a large, neatly arranged wooden desk, but Cru did not sit in it. No – he chose to stand before the rest, towering above them, although her ushered Tatiana to his side. Standing in that proper, intimidating manner of his, Cru’s cold brown eyes bored into those of his officers… and he spoke.

“The remaining sources of water have dried up,” he stated. He did not need to raise his voice as the cold, severe tone was enough to show that he meant business – he always meant business. He spoke quietly, but exuded confidence and power... and danger. “Mutants will be turning to the reservoir soon. Lieutenant,” he said, regarding Hati, “I expect you to be prepared.” This was Cru’s way – he was blunt, direct. He didn’t beat around the bush, and in this clarity, he expected… no, he demanded that his orders be followed. There would be consequences for those who did not.

“And those rebels,” he said, his eyes narrowing just a fraction. His grimace grew tauter as he stated calmly, “They’re starting to become a nuisance. I want information on them, and I want them exterminated.” Was there much more to say? No. This wasn’t a place for them to all connect on a personal level – personal ties were useless in this war. “Increase the security around the reservoir as well. With no water, the vermin will be driven there. They’re proving far too obstinate to die of the drought as we had hoped.”

A pause, a moment to think – was anything forgotten? No. They didn’t need to know much more of his ideas.

“Dismissed. Follow through and then resume to you previous assignments.”

Rudi listened intently, his cropped ears quirked to the deadly tone that floated through Cru's work room. He decided to remain in his feral form, finding it a little more comfortable. Infact his comfort had increased when his leader hadn't lashed out at him back in the open of the camp.

Looking up to Hati, he gently tilted his head. Wondering why in all the world she needed to be ready? Oh well, he wouldn't question it any further. Through the lecture, Rudi sat at attention. It wasn't until they where dismissed he even dared to move. Shifting back to his normal form as the crowd left, he boldly approached his commander.

"Sir, I apologyze, but there's something I need to show you." He said as he produced a small digital camera from his pocket and switched it from 'Camera' mode to 'Slideshow' mode, and handed it to his leader. The first picture to show up was a bleak landscape showing a street lined with dehydrated corpses; of animals and humans alike.

"The drought has reached far out into the East as well, I was unable to bring back any recruits." He said, his voice respectufully low and his amber eyes glued to the floor.

“It seems like the arachnid here isn’t going to make a move… Maybe I shocked her with the fact that someone as lowly as me would challenge her… Maybe you should come down here and show her how it’s done,” retorted Mira with a flirty wink.

That was enough to shock Liron out of her reverie. He had already averted his hazel eyes to stop himself from watching two colleagues go at each other with claws and teeth. He turned towards the Pit, before recoiling slightly at the blood that coated the bottom of the floor.

But before he could react to Mira’s statement, she looked around and addressed the blood-thirsty Maos and Barkers that made up most of Cru’s army. “That’s right, folks. I just challenged the great Liron, this should be a battle of epic proportions,” she said in a whisper that completely defeated its purpose by being extra-loud.

He gave her a slight smirk in return. “The great Liron? Is that the name that you’ve given me?” he said, before tucking both hands in his pockets nonchalantly, fingers gripped on the small shard of glass that remained there. It punctured through his skin, and with a slight flicker of the eyes downwards, he realized that his fingers were bleeding.

With a muffled curse, so soft that no one except those that were extremely close to him could hear, he drew himself upwards, out of his slight slouch. “I’m afraid I can’t, Mira,” he stated, choosing his words with great care. In this area, he was a representative of Cru himself and had to act like it. “I’m quite worried that when I’m done with you, there won’t be anything left but a few scraps of fur,” he bluffed, while hiding his trembling fingers in his pocket. Trust them to ruin his semblance of poise. “I assure you, I don’t like picking through a blanket of fur to get to my prey.”

“And of course, I’m out of your level, Mira. I have better things to do than wrestle down there with you.” Liron dreadfully hoped that she wouldn’t keep pressing this issue. If that happened, he would have to actually get down there, and he would ruin that carefully built reputation of his - by dying.

Cru would not appreciate that very much.

And thinking of Cru, he had the perfect excuse to get out of everything. “Unlike you, Bandit, I have duties to be getting around to.” He walked away from the two thrones before turning back and addressing the Bandit one last time. “Have fun,” he stated, with a slight smirk.

He told Liron to report to him, after all. Liron turned this over in his mind, before slowing striding off towards Cru’s Building. His gait was irregular, but he made sure to keep a semblance of power and pride in his body language - he was one of the more important members of Cru’s Army. True, he realized that Cru didn’t usually allow people to bother him when he was inside, but he shouldn’t mind it that much if it was important - and if he knocked, right?

He paused before the entrance, and gave it a light knock, before jumping back a step and lowering his head slightly. It was always important to watch your body language around Cru, even holding your head up high would be a threat to his complete power. His fingers, which were still stuck in his pocket, were still bleeding from the shard of glass from before, but hopefully, no one would be able to see the stain. But smelling the blood would be a different matter entirely. Everyone in a ten-meter radius would be able to smell the blood.

Liron felt his heart beating in his chest - he was scared, wasn’t he? He was scared that Cru would find that there was no more reason for Liron’s help and get rid of him - or that he would find this an affront to his privacy and kill him to make an example - or just… Liron shook his head, trying to get the thoughts away from his mind. He had already made his choice to knock on the door, and there was no going back from there.

And of course, I’m out of your level, Mira. I have better things to do than wrestle down there with you.” Liron stated. Mira stared at him for a second before he walked away. did she imagine it or did he looked a little worried? maybe scared?

“ugh, you are no fun” Mira said with a small smile. She could smell his blood, though it was not appetizing to her like it would be to some others.
“well it seems as though no one wants to challenge me….geeze guys I’m just and itty bitty bandit. No need to be afraid” she stated. Still no one moved. She sighed again and shifted, before digging her claws into the wall and climbing out of the pit. She yawned showing her canines and scurried off towards the gates of their little ‘family’ and right past the guards. Maybe she could do some recon work.

Nadiel ducked her head with anguish but her expression never changed. Whether they interpreted that as fear or another bout of shyness was their own decision. She didn't have the information and it rang in her ears like a guilty hum. She scuffed her bare foot over the rubble unbothered by not wearing shoes. Usually she just wore her scarf that had some weird quality that allowed it to shrink into a scarf on her mouse form, and into a body suit in her human form. It was good enough to flex and run as freely as she liked.

“Come with me, we need to talk. Cru is putting the pressure on, there isn’t enough food to go around any more and the water sources are scarce due to his dams." Nadiel straightened her shoulders to watch Maw give a rather stressed motion. It appeared like a habit that hinted at his stress. She bit the inside of her cheek resting the urge to call him on it and ask him about the plan. Patience was the key.

Nadiel rolled up to her feet and stepped down the rubble just enough that she could stand on level ground, putting her closer to the bandit, Clive. "They are around. The Mao, she is somewhere around here, I'm sure." Nadiel's outburst made her expression flicker with disapproval but she felt that the leader at least needed some reassurance that he wasn't alone. Shaking her head, she refocused and turned her dark eyes on Maw. "I'm okay with a stealth mission. Yes." She kept her new reply brisk, revealing nothing underneath her mask but yet the slight cramping of her sides came from the anxiety of approaching Cru's army. They were dangerous and to enter their territory was to initiate your death sentence. A countdown until the reapers scythe came down over your throat. She flinched at the thought and turned away from Maw to hide her pale face, to no avail, but nonetheless she wouldn't dishonor her pride any more than she already had.

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

POSTED AS CRU!

It is a very BAD post, but it is a post! People, please, don't die on me and go do stuff with him D:

And my reason is bad, I'm sorry... it was all I could think of...

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Anyways, I just realized that there isn't a Strategist - and I'm slightly interested in the role. Can I? :)

But can I change him into a girl? (Sounds awkward... )

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

I find it somewhat ironic that 'the thief' ended up as one of Maw's most trusted XD

And I have now figured out why Cru's called people to his room, so I'm just gonna go and post when I have time during school hours ^^"

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Vitamin i need more rebels...where are they?

by the by is it cool if i had Maw plan a...sneak attack on the camp 'tonight'?

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Pfft. Well, good luck, Cien. :p

Anyways, personally, Cru scares the heck out of me.. ^^"

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Okay! For the sake of the plot and this roleplay, inventing a reason :D (I like this too much to let it die so quickly XD)

Raize, if you can tell me before I finish writing my post, I won't have to invent what will probably be a really lame reason :D

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

So... you can't remember the reason? XD

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

yes thats Lit. =D nice new username Lit....Raize....who ever you are <3

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

I did have somewhat of a reason.. >> <<

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

For example... what was Cru going to say? XD

Did you have a reason in mind?

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Will do, CiCi!

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

Posted! I hope I did okay. I kinda wanted to approach her habits, senses, and behavior in the first post along with some regular activity and life surrounding Nadiel. Also to share her feelings on a few things. Speaking of feelings, I guess we'll be updating the "Attitude" section in our character sheets soon, ne?

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

XD Then I'll post.

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

nope i posted. REBEL LEADER TO THE RESCUE! lol

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

I have a post all written up, but now I feel awkward because I would be the first rebel to post XD

Oh, and Lit - if you had any plans or such for Cru and his character, could you please send me them in a PM? I want to preserve your image of him as much as possible ^^

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

I think Ill have my character be a loner and post her tomorrow. Just so you know, she'll be a mao named Kate.

Re: [OOC] Skinwalkers

i will post as the rebel leader tonight, things have just been hectic recently. i apologize.
