Personality Description
Henry has been a problematic child since birth. Anxious and insecure as far back as his parents could remember, he would often act out for attention and comfort from his parents. To say he was spoiled might be an exaggeration, but as the only child of the Mayor of Messina, he certainly had his fair share of privilege. He lived in a world where most everyone would give him the time of day except his own parents, the ones who truly mattered to him.
He is a brilliant young man, and he could certainly make something of himself if he had the motivation. Often, however, he finds himself overwhelmed by a level of anxiety that has consumed him since he was a boy and capable of realizing his inferiority in some aspects. He is slow to trust others, but he is still easily persuaded and convinced by others. Though stubborn, he is subject to the influence of others if he does not otherwise have a preconceived opinion.
When he finds something he cares about though, Hal is quick to attach himself. He obsesses over his passions at times to the point where it becomes nearly worrisome. On the other hand, however, it makes him infallibly loyal to his family and Hannah. On the flip side, Henry isolates himself from others more so than a healthy human ought to, but it is a result of being anxious about others and feeling as though he can not truly trust anyone but himself with his thoughts. In the end, he is passionate about what he truly believes and will do whatever if necessary to defend it.
Biography
Hal comes from a line of well-to-do Danish nobles who, after growing bored of an extremely successful life in Scandinavia, decided to see what the Americas had to offer. Or, at least that's what he has been told. His great-grandfather, Tarik Christensen, was the first to make the journey, hoping to find his purpose in America because, in Denmark, it had evidently escaped him.
Miraculously, the Christensen family built up a small fortune around Messina, Pennsylvania, where they would decide to live out their lives. The name Henry, a more English sounding name and proper for an American boy, began with Hal's grandfather and carried down to his father and, eventually, to him. As the son of a budding politician, Hal certainly had quite a role model to work with as he grew up. In a small town like Messina, a job like mayor is perhaps more influential than the governor. It gave young Henry quite a complex and made him something of a pain to deal with as a child.
He was an anxious boy though, acting out only to gain attention from parents who were far too busy dealing with the affairs of Messina. His parents encouraged his studies, at least, and so he made every effort to impress them through his educational pursuits, attending college in Pittsburgh with a double major in philosophy and history. He returned home after the completion of his degree, perhaps because he was overwhelmed by the idea of starting out on his own, or perhaps because he simply couldn't find a job he wanted. Regardless, he remained in Messina alongside his parents and then, one morning, he woke up and his world had been rocked.
His father had died suddenly, and his life seemed to slip away from him. Hal fell into a depressive state, one that he still has yet to truly emerge from. His uncle, a man he had known his entire like, swooped in, dating his dead brother's widow and eventually marrying her just months after Hal's father's death and Stanley's appointment to the open Mayor seat. It still hasn't truly hit him that his father has gone or that his uncle has evidently replaced him in the eyes of the people, but Hal looks to change this. Someone has to figure out what happened to his father.
