Dylan looks strikingly like Cameron Monaghan. They share the same ginger hair, blue-green eyes, and crooked smile. However, they do differ in minute ways. Although Cameron's athletic form was gained from tireless days at the gym, Dylan's comes from real-life experience. Running, both from police and fellow outlaws, has crafted his lean physique over many years. He has many little scars here and there: one on his forearm from hopping a barbed wire fence, one down his nose from a fight gone wrong, and a couple on his knuckles and his back. Stick and poke tattoos litter Dylan's body. He has one from juvie on his inner right ankle. The rest are less hardcore; they come from weekend bonfires and late night parties with his friends from the wrong side of town. His nails are short yet unkempt, and the surrounding skin is always raw and red. This is because he compulsively nibbles and rips at his nails and picks at the surrounding skin; he's always been a nail biter, but it picked up after his first visit to juvie when his therapist suggested for Dylan to find control mechanisms for his anger.

The thing about Dylan is that he's not dumb; he really isn't. It's easy for someone to accurately perceive his attitude as everything that it is--arrogant, abrasive, crass, narcissistic-- but falsely interpret his actions as idiocy. What they don't know is that Dylan has always been smart. Academically, his record may not reflect as such (repeated unexcused absences will bring any A student down to Cs), but he has always understood scholastic discussions with ease. Ignored privilege is a theme for Dylan: he was spoiled growing up, but he rebels against authority like he had to raise himself; he could excel at any top prep school, but he instead he chose to skip class at the public high school. That's because he's what could be labeled as a bad boy. He swears like a sailor, no matter the company, rejects domineering adult figures, and makes his own way, even if just to make a point. That isn't the only thing that makes him a bad boy, though. What cements any teenage boy as the one mothers keep their daughters away from is sex appeal, and Dylan's got it. Every word is flirtatious, every gaze sultry. Wherever he goes, tales of conquest follow his sex life. "Did you hear that DJ banged Josh's mom?" "He was totally in an orgy over the summer!" The rumors are almost never true, and any kernel of truth is grotesquely elaborated, but narcissism runs through Dylan's veins, and he preens under the slightest attention. This stems from two sources: a discomfort over his repressed bisexuality and his generally inflated sense of self.
For a female, flirtation will clearly be her main mode of communication with Dylan. He is not easily dissuaded, but if she continually rejects his advances, he will become aggressive and hostile. "Bitch" will become her new name, and she will be ridiculed and lied about behind her back. Despite his promiscuity, Dylan is not opposed to (supposedly) monogamous relationships. He will date a girl just as happily as he will sleep with her, but this does not mean that he will actually commit. In fact, commitment is a real issue for Dylan. He has never had a relationship last longer than 4 months, and he was cheating on her the whole time. Rare girls can get past this suave persona and become Dylan's close friends. Because of this, he is constantly surrounded by girls, but finds that he can't trust them. He brushes this off with his typical sexism, but sometimes he wishes that he could be someone who doesn't need to seduce every girl he runs into.
As a male interacting with Dylan, you will likely get what he considers his personality, which is a cross between a bad boy and a frat bro. He is douchey yet cool, obtuse yet observant, affable yet independent. He will great all his male friends with bro-hugs (replete with hard pats on the back), but smoke cigarettes and talk about the news with them. In terms of companions he looks for, imagine the freak crowd from Freaks and Geeks if they were socially desirable; Dylan likes interesting people who veer away from the crowd, go to concerts, and get high as often as possible. Of course, Dylan is also attracted to males, but this attraction is deeply repressed and will only surface when he is heavily intoxicated. He has never even kissed a man, although his friends report flirting when he was stoned. They say he treated them the same way he treats girls: all smirks, glances, and pickup lines.
As one of the very select people closest to Dylan, you will see the side he hasn't fully admitted is there. It is an intellectual boy who loves to read anything he can get his hands on. Like anyone who reads a lot, he has realized that life is incredibly finite, and everything he does is an attempt to be independent and obligation-less. However, he is also a massive attention seeker and an extrovert. Because of this, he constantly tries to reconcile his desire to impress with his need to matter for the split second he has on earth. However, nearly no one has ever seen this thoughtful and intelligent side of Dylan; it takes years of knowing him or surviving a traumatic situation with him to even make a crack in his bravado.
