The sun set behind the hills. Rudy got off the horse and waved goodbye as he went back to his truck. It wasn't long before he finally got back to his apartment and shed every piece of clothing from his body and looked at himself in his floor mirror. He flexed his muscles, or what actual muscles he had. With not another glance towards the mirror, Rudy went to his bedroom and collapsed on the bed. Several hours later he awoke to the sound of his alarm buzzing. His hand smashed the snooze button as he rose from his bed. He trudged into the bathroom and looked into the mirror. He looked and felt as if he was hung over, but he never even had a drink in the past few days. He took a step into the shower and turned the handle.

The shower woke him up. He turned it off and stepped out, drying off. He went to look at the time on his phone and saw that he was gonna be late for his first day at the farm. He ran into his room and picked out his basic clothes for working. Jeans, an undershirt, and a flannel. He slid on his jeans without boxers on and quickly threw on his undershirt. He had his flannel in his hand and his keys in the other as he ran out to his truck. Once inside, Rudy was off to the farm. His truck came to a stop right in the drive. He got out and pulled on his flannel shirt.

Cassandra was awoken at the sound of her alarm going off at six in the morning. She sighed as she slammed her hand down on the clock and climbed out of bed. She slid her purple slippers upon her feet before sleepily treading her way down the hall and into the bathroom. She used the toilet, brushed her teeth, showered then returned to her room with a towel wrapped around her nude body. "Ugh, school, what a wonderful thing," she stated to herself in a sarcastic manner.

She glanced out the window, noticing Rudy outside pulling on a flannel. She smiled and returned to getting dressed. Cassandra pulled on a pair of ripped jeans, boots, and a white t-shirt with a plaid shirt over it. She buttoned the shirt half way up, pulled her brunette and blonde strands up into a messy bun before grabbing her back pack and headed downstairs.

Neither of her parents were up, which was normal for the two of them when she went to school. The female sighed as she stepped out the door and made her way out to the end of the driveway, waiting on the bus. Cassandra turned towards Rudy, "Good morning Rudy," she stated to him with a soft smile.

Rudy brushed off his sleeves of the old, dusty flannel. He forgot the last time he ever washed any of his flannels. His eyes wondered around the fields in the back of the farm and they also glanced over the ranch. It didn't seem as if anyone was even awake. As he was about to get back in his truck and wait for some work to be given to him, Rudy heard a female voice. He turned and saw Cassandra waiting at the end of the drive. He saw the backpack strapped around her shoulders. "Hey, how are ya this morning Cassandra? I'm gonna guess you're waiting for the bus." He returned with a polite smile. It was interesting why he was there and the only person up was Cassandra.

He turned to look at the house once more. It seemed as if no one else was getting up anytime soon. Rudy turned back to the brunette and offered her something. "I could always give you a ride to school. If your dad isn't waking up anytime soon I don't think I need to be waiting here. So... what do ya say?" Rudy opened the car door and put his one foot right up on the side of the truck.

Cassandra smiled when he responded to her though she was completely off guard when he asked her if she wanted a ride to school. The female stood there for a couple moments before looking back over at the window of her parent's room and shrugged her shoulders. "I don't see why not," she stated as she walked over to the passenger's side of the truck and climbed in.

She set her backpack on the floor of the truck and buckled herself into the seat. Cassandra let out a soft sigh and turned to Rudy, "If my father isn't up when you get back, just go ahead and start plowing the fields. By the time you're finished I'm sure my father will be up and he'll tell you what to do," she stated, trying to help him out a bit.

Plowing the fields was something her father always had his staff doing, so she figured that was something he wanted him to do anyway.

Rudy jammed the key in the ignition and started up the rusty old tin can of a truck he had. He could hear the engine hiss to the dissatisfaction of starting up. He listened to her instructions on what to do when he got back. He let out a simple, "Thanks for letting me know," and added a smile as well. He slowly started to remember his way to the high school that he attended. Rudy had never thought that he would ever have to see that dreaded building ever again. But at the same time he couldn't wait to see how things may have changed. High school for him was full of ups and downs. He hated going to class, but had the time of his life meeting and hanging out with tons of people.

The car came to a halt outside of the school. Rudy looked over at Cassandra "I guess i'll see you later. Have a good time at school." He couldn't help, but say that like a parent talking to a kid going to kindergarten.

Cassandra sat there in silence the entire ride to school, dreading the fact deeply. She honestly just wanted to drop out and get her GED but she knew her parents weren't going to be up for it. Once they pulled up to the building, she glanced over at him with a soft smile and spoke, "Thanks for the ride, you have a good day too," she responded, trying her best to be as nice to him as possible. Especially since he told her to have a nice day when he knew what went on behind those doors, but she didn't want to upset him, he was just trying to be nice and try to help her day go good.

The petite teenager climbed out of the truck and slung her backpack over her shoulders and closed the truck door. With a sigh she began treading her way into the building and through the halls to her locker. The entire time she would endure pushes and rude remarks. She grabbed her books and went on to her homeroom class.

The rest of the day went on as normal, at least that was until she was cornered in the girl's locker room and badly beaten for no reason at all. Cassandra's nose was bleeding, she had bruises and scratches all over the place, bleeding in a couple other areas, she looked like she just got mauled by dogs. The girls ran out of the locker room, leaving Cassandra there crying on the floor. She slowly pulled herself to her feet and limped over to her gym locker and pulled her phone out of her jean pocket and texted Rudy.

Cassandra was in no mood to talk to her father, she hoped that Rudy would be able to explain things to him and either one of them would be able to grab her from school and bring her by the hospital. Her father gave her Rudy's number just in case she ever needed it when she couldn't get in touch with her father.

She opened her phone up to message him, but thought it would be a better idea just to call. So she dialed his number and waited for him to answer, hoping that he would since he most likely didn't know her number.

Rudy smiled as he watched Cassandra get out and go into the school. He pulled out of the school lot and drove back to the farm before Cassandra's father woke up. He parked in the drive and got out. He remembered what she told him to do if her father was not up. So Rudy started plowing the fields. About half an hour went by before he was greeted by Mr. Fitz. He simply told Rudy what to do and he went to work.

Hours went by before Rudy took a short break. He wiped the sweat from his brow with his arm as he made his way to his truck. When he was about to get in to take a seat his phone rang in his pocket. His hand went in and fished it out. He didn't recognize the number, but answered anyway. "Rudy Harbinger speaking. May I ask who's calling?"

The very moment Rudy answered the phone, her tears got worse and she spoke into the phone, "R-Rudy...I was attacked. I'm alone in the locker room and I can't move without wanting to drop to my knees. C-can you tell Dad what happened? I just, I don't feel right, everything hurts...," she spoke into the phone, clearly being able to tell how much pain she is in and that she is crying.

All she wanted to do right now was ball up and die from all the physical and emotional pain she was feeling. She knew it was a bad idea to come to school today, she had a feeling something like this was going to happen. Whenever Cassandra has bad feelings, something horrible always happens she just didn't know why she didn't listen to herself.

Rudy couldn't handle what he just heard. Without a second of hesitation, he ran from his truck and went to find Cassandra's father. He spotted him near a hay bale. Rudy quickly told her father what happened. He was about to leave, but Rudy offered to go get her. With that in mind, Rudy went off and ran back to his truck. He got in and slammed the door. Just several minutes later, he was at the school. Rudy pulled out his phone and texted Cassandra "I'm at the school. Just come out and I can take you to the hospital if you need me to." He was scared for her. Nothing like that had ever happened to him during high school. When Rudy in high school, no one really ever got bullied. There was teasing here and there, but no full out abuse.

ImageAs Cassandra waited on Rudy or her father to arrive she began to slowly finish getting dressed, every movement causing her to hurt worse and worse by the second. She began to inch herself through the locker room and out the door. She made it to the front doors of the school just as she got a text from Rudy. "I'm coming out," she replied before stepping out the school doors, limping and letting out grunts of pain with every step. Cassandra wasn't sure how much longer she could keep herself on her feet. She felt as if she were going to fall and not be able to pick herself back up.

When she made it to the stairs of the school she looked to Rudy who was parked just a few feet away from her and she just stood there, holding herself up by the rail. "Could you help me?" she questioned as tears continued running down her cheeks. She hated him seeing her like this, but there was nothing she could do about it. Cassandra was just glad that she had someone to get her out of school for the day.

Rudy waited in his idling car, glancing at the front doors every once in a while. He kept the windows on his truck open, waiting to hear the doors of the school open, hopefully seeing Cassandra come out safe and sound. But when he heard a clank, Rudy's eyes shot up and over to look at the door. There he saw Cassandra struggling to get to the car. With the image in front of him, Rudy almost fell out of the car, but kept his balance and ran over to her. He wrapped his arms around her body, helping her stay on her feet. He decided it would be easier to just pick her up, so that is what he did. Rudy put one arm behind her knees, and the other across her back. He carried Cassandra to the truck, opening the door with his finger, and then pushing it open with his elbow. He placed her in the seat before closing the door and going around to the other side.

As Rudy drove out of sight from the school, he glanced over at Cassandra, "I'm gonna take you to the hospital. I think you need to be checked out. I told your dad what happened." He just drove to the hospital, pulling into the emergency lane. He ran around to the other side and got Cassandra out, carrying her in his arms into the building.

ImageCassandra gave a small smile when Rudy lifted her into his arms. She wasn't sure what it was about him, but she felt so safe in his arms. Once she was set down onto the seat in the car, she let out a soft sigh, trying to keep herself awake as long as possible. If she happened to have a concussion, she didn't want to make things worse than they were.

Most of the ride was filled with silence, until Rudy spoke up, "I'm gonna take you to the hospital. I think you need to be checked out. I told your dad what happened." At that point she was honestly shocked that her father sent him to pick her up. He really must trust Rudy, leaving him alone with her in this condition. Though before they arrived at the hospital, she passed out, staying awake was no longer an option as her tiredness took over.

When Rudy handed Cassandra off to a nurse, he was told to take a seat. So for a few hours he sat in the waiting room, trying not to fall asleep. He didn't expect his first day of work to turn out like this. He thought it would just be going to the farm, working for several hours, and then going home and passing out due to exhaustion. Rudy glanced up at the clock every now and then just to see if he would have to plan on taking a nap, but as he was about to get some shut eye, the nurse from earlier approached him, telling him that he could see Cassandra and even check her out of the hospital. Rudy thanked her for her help, and he made his way down the hall and into Cassandra's room. He looked at her lying in the bed. "Are you alright? The nurse said I could take you home.

Rudy smiled as he took a seat at the end of the bed. His eyes traveled from her feet to her face. To him, Cassandra just seemed peaceful in bed. He was about ready to lose his cool if he had to stay any longer, but he was keeping himself intact by just taking a deep breath, in and out.

ImageAfter a couple hours of being passed out she awoke, finding herself lying in a hospital room. Not much longer she was accompanied by Rudy. She glanced over at him, just looking him over. "Are you alright? The nurse said I could take you home."

Cassandra nodded her head at his question and spoke, "Yeah, but first I have a question. Why did my father send you to get me instead of him doing it himself?" she questioned as she slowly lifted herself on the bed to sit up. Cassandra didn't understand why her father would trust a new hire this quickly or even why he hadn't come to Cassandra's rescue like he always used to. Was it something to do with her?

Cassandra kept a blank look upon her face as all those thoughts ran through her mind. She had to keep herself from crying. She didn't want to explain her feelings towards her father right now. Of course she was thankful that Rudy had come to her rescue, but that last thing she wanted to do was have him know what she was thinking.

"Actually, never mind. Don't answer that question. I just want to go home," she stated as she then climbed out of the bed and grabbed her clothes off the stand beside her bed and stepped into the bathroom built onto the room. After changing into her clothes, she limped out into the room and looked to him. "I'm ready."

Rudy just smiled as she told him to not answer the question. He put his arms around Cassandra and helped her out to his truck. He picked her up, placing her in the passenger seat. He closed the door and made it around to the other side, getting in and starting the truck up. Rudy glanced over at Cassandra as he pulled out of the lot and out onto the street, heading back to the farm. Rudy understood why she questioned him on the fact that he picked her up from the school and took her to the hospital instead of her own father. If he were in the same situation, Rudy would want one of his own parents to help him out instead of some new guy who seemed like a complete stranger. With the farm in sight, Rudy pulled into the drive and parked the truck. He got out, went around to the other side and helped Cassandra out of the car. He helped her over to the house where he saw her father in sight. Rudy turned to the girl and spoke up "I hope you're all right now. Sorry I went to pick you up instead of your own dad. Rudy scratched the back of his head with his hand. He felt awkward in this situation.

ImageCassandra sat in the truck, looking out the window the entire ride from the hospital to the farm. All she wanted to do was go inside and go straight to bed. She didn't want to tell her parents what happened, knowing that they wouldn't do anything about it. All they would tell her is that this is normal in high school and that she had to get used to it.

Once she was inside, her parents followed behind, leaving Rudy on the farm to get back to work. She sat down in the living room, knowing that they wanted to talk to her. "What happened? Why did Rudy pick you up?" her father questioned. Cassandra wanted to make sure Rudy kept his job, so she lied to him. "I asked him to pick me up. I knew you guys were sleeping and I didn't want to bother you. I'm fine," she stated before standing to her feet.

"Sit back down," her father demanded. "What happened?"

"What's the point in telling you when all you're going to say is that this is normal high school behavior, you're alright," she responded.

"That's not true," her mother chimed in.

"Oh, yes it is. Last time I was bullied, you told me this yourself." Cassandra stood to her feet and started yelling. "You told me that I had to grow up and get used to being beat on! That it would just stop if I didn't fight back. I actually believed you for a while, but it just continued, in fact, it got worse. I'm bullied everyday and nobody does anything about it!" she stated before heading up to her bedroom, grabbed the wine bottle and stormed out the door.

She sat down at the top part of the barn and opened the bottle, drinking from it. If she were to be told to behave, never raise a fist and not have anyone do anything about her constantly being bullied, she would act on it herself. But first, she needed to drink this bottle. She wasn't going back to school. She was going to drop out and just get her GED. After that she would go to college and get away from this farm.

There wasn't much for Rudy to do. He stood outside, going back to work as he let Cassandra go inside and deal with her parents. He could hear some faint yelling as he paid close attention to what was going on in the house. He kept his head down, but he kept his ears tuned in to the situation at hand. Not much after the yelling stopped, he heard the door slam. His head shot up and his eyes went right to the brunette storming out of the house with the wine bottle he gave her in her hand.. He watched as she went into the barn. Rudy stopped what he was doing and followed the girl. When he got to the barn she seemed to be gone. His eyes glanced around looking for her, but then looked up. He heard a small creak from above him. Rudy slowly made his way up to the upper portion of the barn. He spotted Cassandra basically chugging away at the wine. His eyes gazed over her body. "Hey, you probably shouldn't drink all of that, you'll get sick." Rudy went over to her/ "I'm gonna guess your parents weren't expecting you to come home from the hospital, especially with me giving you a ride. If you want, I can go tell them it was my fault that I didn't tell them. I just don't want your parents to be angry towards you for a mistake I made."

After hearing his words she took another swig from the bottle before speaking, "Then I'll get sick," she stated and took another sip and set the bottle down beside her. She sighed as she then spoke once more, "No, it's not anything to do with you. I was asked why you were the one who picked me up but that was all that was said about it. My parents, they just don't do anything about me being bullied. They tell me it's a normal thing for me to go through, but they're wrong, not to this extent. I was almost killed today and nobody seems to care."

Rudy listened to her words about feeling neglected. He couldn't argue to say that her parents do care, because he has no idea. But he does assume that hopefully her parents actually love her. "Your parents care. They're just being assholes like all parents sort of are. But I'm gonna let you know that I care about you. My parents never seemed to express that they cared for me through their words, but they did. Just give you parents some time and maybe they'll calm down and be understanding and listen to you. If not, then I'm here for you."

Rudy let his eyes glance at the bottle. He went over and picked it up, taking a sip from it before placing it back down next to Cassandra. "If you're gonna drink my wine, I should be allowed to get some as well." He understood where she was coming from with her speech. He didn't know she was so upset. It surprised him, but he knew that she had to just trust someone to care for her. "You know that time I told you about where I had sex with a girl right below us in this barn? Well let me just tell you that the girl's parents found out about what happened some how. They told my parents and all hell was unleashed. They made me feel hatred towards them, I even decided I would run away like a child would plan to do because I felt lonely. As if no one cared for me. I just wanted to die, but I stuck around. My parents, slowly but surely, came around to their senses. They just cooled down and apologized. Maybe your parents would be the same way, hopefully."

ImageShe sat there, listening to every word that left his lips. Maybe he was right, maybe she was over analyzing these things. She chuckled a bit when she noticed him pick up the bottle and take a sip from it before adding on with what he was saying. She took the bottle back in her hands and took another sip. She was beginning to feel a bit tipsy.

"Was that your first time?" she questioned. She knew that was probably more of a personal question but she was curious. She never had sex before, so of course she was a bit curious about it. Cassandra wanted to try it but she wanted to wait until she found the right guy first. She didn't want her first time to be some kind of meaningless fling.
