Alex sat under a tree. It was sunny, like always. She hated the sun. It was too... bright. She crossed her legs and closed her eyes, creating a small cloud over the tree she was sitting under. It was darker, just the way she liked it. Uncrossing her legs and lying back without opening her eyes. After a while she was sleeping.
She later woke to find that the tree she was under on fire.
"Shit!" She cursed continually
Not again. This always happens. She thought while trying to calmly summon a rain a rain cloud. The tree made a cracking noise. It started to crack down the middle. She watched as the tree fell to the ground. The rain started.
"NOW YOU START!"she yelled furiously.
Her powers were just like that when you needed them most they wouldn't work until after you needed them. Last time that happened was in her room when she blocked out the light from the window with a cloud... she had set the curtains on fire. Lightning had struck them coming out of the cloud she had created.

Alex looked at the fallen tree she was going to get into trouble... again.
A girl came into sight. "Alexandra," she said, "striking things down with lightning... again?"
"Go away" Alex snarled.
"Oh, in a bad mood again I see" the girl replied.
Alex sat down trying to ignore the girl. Alex was annoyed by her all the time but still never knew her name.
"I'm talking to you, little leprechaun"
Alex hated being reminded that she was Irish. "Stop it now" she said quietly.
"Uh, and your gonna make me?" The girl replied smirking
Alex summoned mist to cloud the girls vision. And it actually worked to her surprise.
The girl just smirked and Alex felt a sharp pain in her back. The girl just hit her with lightning. That was the last straw.
Alex rubbed her palms together. She could feel the tingle of lightning. She splayed her hands out and hit the girl directly in the face. The mist around the girl cleared. She screamed and ran of.
"Can't take a taste of your own medicine" She says smirking but also feeling exhausted.
The last thing she seen before passing out was the girl running away.

After Alex woke she headed back to find an empty room she could practice controling her powers in. Her own room was to small. Sometimes the training rooms were not that crowed, sometimes empty. She hated crowed places. She was happily walking to the training rooms whaen she heard a familiar unfriendly voice.
"That's her!"
"You sure" said another.
"Yes of course I am"
It was the girl from earlier the one that went running like a scared rabbit. Hmm she did look a bit like a rabbit. The other person with her was a man probably in his early twenties.
"Can't fight your own fights, I see" Alex calld out to her.
"Just do it" the girl said to the man"
He, obviously, could shoot lightning from his palms like Alex. Which she found out a bit to late as the lightning hit her sending her flying backwards into a window breaking it.
"Oh" Alex said" that did hurt." "Sorry" she then called out to everyone inside.
Small bits of glass stuck into her but she paid no notice of them. Turning she flung lightning at the man and the girl, standing she brushed glass and debris of her clothes. The man stood, groaning. The girl stood and ran of, typically. The man glared at Alex. Her eyes glowed blue, the colour of lightning. He looks at me with horror filled eyes and runs of.
"Typical storm users" She smile to myself "see something new they get scared." turning to see the damage she caused and see numerous people staring at her.
"Sorry!" I yell again.
Well at least I hit the bar. She thought, less people will drink... Hopefully
Alex heads to her room to clean and treat the wounds only glancing back at the now shattered bar window once to see if anyone had made a move.

He was having a nice conversation with the kid next to him, so he thought he might become a friend with this kid. He noticed a girl wearing strange clothes walk in, but those clothes were no where near as weird as the clothes the magician who trained him wore. He turned to the girl trying to become friends, but not enemies. "Your clothes remind me of my mentor's clothes, but his clothes were much more colorful." Before he would continue this conversation he decided to tell the girl something now to not have any awkwardness later on in the conversation, if the conversation even had the slightest chance of continuing. "If you shall take this opportunity to ask me questions, please do not ask about my past and I shall do the same. " He noticed that a girl had crashed through the window and almost broken her whole body. " I'm terribly sorry, but I need to see if this girl is all right. If you wish to continue this conversation find me sitting on a bench feeding the birds near the park. " He wasn't trying to hit on her, since you don't hit on girls when you're wearing glasses. He was genuinely trying to befriend her, since he barely had any friends due to him not trusting anyone. He would hope this girl would decide to continue a conversation with him and they could perhaps become friends later on. His glasses almost fell of, and for that split second a hint of fear spread across his whole being. He fixed his glasses before any actual damage could be done to the people around him, he sighed he almost had another episode like he did before. He continued heading to the girl and decided to check up on her. Once he made it to the girl he asked her a question "Are you okay? That was a pretty nasty glide you took towards the window." He wasn't trying to hit on this girl, instead he was trying to be like his mentor in helping those who were hurt. He thought she would be hurt, but he didn't know if she was hurt. He also needed an excuse to leave, since so many people who could've seen the little fight he had earlier with the earth magic user were coming into the bar. His attention was turned towards the girl and he was waiting to see if she was hurt, but he only knew weak healing spells and couldn't really use powerful spells that were meant for good. His magic was meant to be used for evil or as an offensive magic, and that was why the being chose to have Alan's father as a host. The being would later on try and use Alan as a host, but Alan didn't need to worry about that considering he was a pretty weak mage when his glasses were on.

Alex looked at him with great curiosity. "No one ever talks to me" she thought. Thinking some one had sent him to annoy or attack her, she just went along with it getting ready to attack.
"I'm fine, just a scratch" Alex replied, trying to sound as relaxed as possible. She couldn't help it but a little edge was in her voice.
Eventually she couldn't take it anymore.
"Why are you asking?" I said sounding more casual now.

"Your voice sounds a bit weird, are you sure your fine? " He barely talked to people and he was kind of awkward at talking to people. He scratched his head not knowing what to do. He then noticed that people don't just randomly go flying through windows. "Wait, how did you even get through the window in the first place?" He was a bit confused trying to think of a plausible explanation for this, then it hit him. Jerks, of course that had to be the only plausible explanation besides the girl trying to jump through a window on purpose. He walked alongside the girl with a relaxed posture, if the girl wished to attack him he wouldn't mind as long as she didn't take away his glasses. A bit of his blood from the fight he had earlier was dripping down his cheek, but he didn't notice. He wasn't part of any group of elementals, considering there was only ten whole shadow elementals in this school and most of them were part of the staff here. A lot of people thought he looked threatening and first, but when they got to know him better they would see his personality. They would also see his personality when he didn't have his glasses on.

He was confused at why she would be shot at . "Why would someone strike you with lightning?" Actually he knew why, since people always felt they needed to show that they were stronger then you. His next words had a serious tone to them "Actually, I'm pretty sure some people just can't resist fighting others." Her next remark startled him, why would he follow orders from someone else? "If I was sent to annoy you, wouldn't I have attacked you by now? I came to you, because you seemed hurt." He cleaned the blood dripping from his body with a piece of paper, but he was used to being attacked by now. He was always attacked as a child due to him having to steal from people to survive, but he went around the world with his mentor and managed to help all the people he stole from by working for them. He didn't miss his biological father, since his biological father left him when he was a child. He smiled, this was one of the people who didn't try and kill him the first time he spoke to them. He hoped he could become a friend with this girl, but she probably wouldn't trust him at at all. He didn't mind at all as long as he had someone to talk to, but he didn't even know the girls name. " If you don't trust me then shoot me and get rid of me. Anyways my name is Alan, what is yours?" If he was shot then so be it, but he trusted the girl wouldn't shoot him or at least she wouldn't take his glasses off of him. He hoped that she would at least answer his question before she shot him. His pet messenger bird landed on his shoulder carrying a letter from his mentor, the letter read "I hope you're enjoying your time at the academy, but please do watch out for other shadow magic users. Some of them made a contract with the 'thing'. Anyways enjoy your stay at the academy ~ Daniel". Alan would reply to this letter later on in the day, for now he was having a conversation with someone. He turned his attention back to the girl who he was walking alongside.

She wasn't comfortable to talking to Alan. Normally after the first sentence she said the person she was talking would just simply walk away. She was wondering why this boy wasn't. Maybe because he was actually trying to be nice. But why would he be everyone hated her anyways. But she thought she may as well try to be nice too, something she hadn't been since... Well she couldn't remember.
"I'm Alex." She said trying to sound happy or nice or whatever people did while having a friendly conversation.

She was finally opening up to him, although he could still she that she was a bit nervous about trusting him. "I'm a shadow magician, and I'm guessing you're a lightning magician. Alan was wondering if they were going anywhere specific "Are we going anywhere specific? If we are not then isn't possible for us to get lost?" Just as he said that he tripped and his glasses were cracked, but he was able to keep his other personality suppressed . "My glasses are broken, and I am sure you do not wish to see what I turn into without them. I think I must take my leave and see the headmaster about this. You are free to accompany me." His tone was much more serious then it was before, but he was trying to suppress his other personality. He didn't want to lose a chance to make a friend by hurting this girl, but there was a sign of mental strain being shown in his voice as well as the seriousness. "I shall explain this to you later if you wish for an explanation." His saunter at the moment was terrible, since he was barely able to walk in a straight direction and he didn't even know in which direction to go to the headmaster. He was walking blindly with no specific direction in mind, but he was determined to get there. Even if it meant accepting help from someone else, but he didn't wish to trouble this girl any more then he might have already. The strain on his mind was finally catching up to him and he was having dark thoughts, and he passed out from too much mental effort being made just to not hurt this one girl. "Why am I trying so hard for this one girl." He mumbled this to himself, but he knew the answer was that he didn't want to disappoint his mentor. He expected to be left on the ground, and he didn't really mind being left here to die. Many people have left him to die in the streets, so he was quite used to the cruelty of others.

Alex realised he was trying to be nice. Even though he seemed to be straining himself from something. Anyway she had nothing to do so she may as well follow him. Plus she had no friends this might be her only chance. Maybe Alan had not yet heard of her and the things she had done.
"Sure I'll come, if your sure that's alright."
She looked at him. Not wanting to ask at the moment what was happening, what a shadow user was and... she had so many questions. Alex was hardly ever curious. She suddenly realised something.
"Are you new here, because you seem to not have heard of me." She said, then quietly "people who have would stay away"
Suddenly wishing she had not said the last sentence, she tried to change the subject.
"I do not just controll lightning. I can also controll things like... storms and all"
She realised how socially awkward she was. Doubting she even talked properly. Turning she tried to remember the fastest way to the headmasters office.

Alan was unsconscious still, but he was in a dream with darkness surrounding him showing images of the things he did to people. He didn't want this, not at all. He tried running away, but somehow the ghosts of the people he has wronged have come to him. "Calm down, it would be better for the both of us if you did." An exact replica of him said that, but the replica was wearing a suit and tie. The replica pointed towards a set of seats and a table, he said "I'll bring us something to drink." The replica grabbed a pitcher of an unknown liquid, but it didn't seem to cause damage to the replica when it drank the liquid. Alan tried the liquid and it tasted dark, but not evil. He checked to see if his glasses were on and surely enough they were, but they were cracked. "What's happening." He didn't say that out loud, but he didn't need to. The replica could hear his thoughts "You are in your dream, but so am I." The replica was calm when it said this, after it said this it sat down in a chair and motioned for Alan to sit besides him. "Sit down, please. I shall explain this to you as best as I can."
Alan sat down and he didn't feel threatened by this replica of him, instead he felt like if he knew the replica personally. "Do I know you?" Alan asked the question to the replica. "Why yes you do, I am you and you are I." The replica wasn't making sense, but it knew it was correct. "That can't be possible, no that can't be possible at all." Alan was not going to accept that, but deep down he knew the replica was not lying to him. "Our father is quite greedy, don't you agree. " His replica said this calmly and while pouring his drink, but Alan thought the replica was talking about his mentor and not his biological father. "Shut up, you know nothing of my mentor." Alan was prepared to defend his mentor's name if it cost him his life, but his replica wouldn't dare get Alan killed or it would die as well. "I wasn't speaking of our mentor, I was speaking of our biological father." His replica was not fazed by Alan's sudden outburst, instead he was patient and waited for Alan to calm down. "As far as I am concerned I don't have a biological father, he left me and the chances of raising me when he left me to fend for myself on the streets. " Alan didn't feel any emotion towards his biological father, considering he left Alan when Alan was only a child and that was around the time Volvo adopted Alan. "I am the persona you created to hide the fact that you did many bad things in your past, but you shall eventually accept that you did those things." His replica drank the liquid when he finished that sentence. "Lies, I didn't do anything in the past. That was my other personality." Alan was completely sure of himself when he said that. "That's the point, it's your personality. " The replica was trying to get Alan to accept what he has done, but he wouldn't resort to violence or it might stop existing completely. "Leave me alone and let me go, now." Alan wished to get away from this 'thing' as fast as he could, but he had no idea how to leave or if the thing would let him leave. "As you wish, but remember this. I shall always be there whispering in your ear telling you to do the things you are too weak to do on your own, I will be the influence that shall help you accomplish the deeds you are too scared to do on your own. This was only a dream, remember that."

When it finished stating it's last words for now, Alan woke up from his dream. He couldn't tell if he was still on the ground or if he was in the headmaster's room, he decided he would try and see for himself. His vision was still blurred and he couldn't see where he was. "Hello? Anyone there?"

Alex sighed in relief as Alan opened his eyes. She had considered taking his glasses of but remembered that he had said about becoming something when he took them of... likely to be bad.
"Are you ok?" she asked Alan.
Worried about this boy. She had stayed with him while he had fainted in the headmasters room. She didn't know what had happened it had happened so fast. First Alan was just talking then he passed out. She had looked around for the headmaster but he was no where to be seen.
"Alan?" She looked at him and offered him a hand up.

He took the hand, since he couldn't really get up on his own. " Heh, thanks. I'd say I was fine, but that would be a complete lie. " He didn't pretend he was fine when he was hurt, considering that would probably get him killed and he needed all the help he could get as a child. He had no pride to protect, so it didn't matter if he got help from others and it didn't matter if he was beat in battle. " My head hurts and I'm not sure how much longer I can hold my destructive urges without my glasses to help." He took the hand and pressed his knee for support, and he got up still a bit dizzy. He took off his glasses revealing his face without them, since the glasses were cracked and they wouldn't be much use "My head still hurts and we should find the headmaster before I lose the hold on my body, but don't take my calm attitude as me being fine. Without my glasses I'm a completely different person and I think I'm losing control if I'm acting calm. " He had very little control over his mind, but he wouldn't let his other personality out to wreck havoc. He walked towards the door and went into the hallways, then he looked around for any students in the vicinity. He saw a group of level four fire mages leaning against the wall talking about how powerful they were becoming. He walked up to the mages and asked them "Do you know where the headmaster is?" They snickered and were surprised a level one had the guts to ask them something, so they thought they would punch him and make Alan back off. They didn't even get to land a punch, Alan grabbed the kid who's hand was going to punch Alan. "I'm not in the mood for this crap kid, so just tell me where the headmaster is or I'll do some very bad things to you." Alan was twisting the kid's hand and he wasn't enjoying this one bit, but the kid was enjoying this less than Alan was. "You cocky weakling, guys get him. " This level four needed a group to take down a simple level one. "Pitiful, can't even fight your own fights. " Alan stood in one place with his hands in his pockets. He used the shadow of the kids' against them and made them be trapped in solid shadow. He wasn't going to enjoy this fight, he needed to talk to the headmaster immediately. "Tell me where the headmaster is at and I'll let you go, then we can forget this ever happened. " The kid was scared and he complied with Alan "H-H-He's T-T-Talking with one o-o-of the k-kids who j-j-just entered. " The kid flinched when Alan let him go, Alan wasn't going to waste his time here. He remembered he didn't know where the headmaster was still and he decided to ask the kid where the headmaster was at. The kid replied with the room's location, since he was terrified of Alan. Alan went directly to the room mentioned by the kid, but when he made it to the door his head started hurting more than it did before. He didn't know if he could make it inside of the headmaster's location in time to get the headmaster to subdue him and fix his glasses.

Alex ran to catch up. She suddenly could see how dangerous he could be. If this was him trying to subdue the... thing he was she didn't want to see him active.
"Alan, wait" she called.
Now catching up to him she noticed how strained he looked.
"You look like you've been through hell. Do you need anything? Anything, anything at all, just say it and ill do it. Just tell me how to help."
She didn't know why she was doing this, helping this boy. Maybe she wanted to just help. Really she didn't know.

Alan tried putting on a weak smile to hide the strain that was being put on his body right now "I've been through worst as a child." This wasn't a bluff , it was fact. He had been surviving on his own as a child and has had many terrible things done to him, but he always let the people do whatever they wanted to . That is if they were smart enough to not take of Alan's glasses, if they weren't then they would be found in the town square unconscious and bleeding. His mentor would always scold him for doing that and give him a lecture, but his mentor would never harm him or do anything like that and that was why Alan loved his mentor. "You wouldn't mind helping me get into the headmaster's office would you?" He remembered when his mentor first saw what sort of a monster Alan could be, his mentor just stood there taking the full force of Alan's attacks and he just hugged Alan until Alan let all of his frustrations out on his mentor. Alan was strong having to survive on the streets for most of his life made him strong and having a strong mentor made him stronger, but Alan never let his full strength out on anybody. Due to him not having a good enough reason to let his full strength out, but the only time he would let his full strength out is if someone hurt someone he cared about. "Why help a monster like me? I've done terrible things to people and most people would rather kill me as soon as they can." He was truly confused as to why this girl would help him, when others would rather kill him where he stood.

Alex frowned. Just because you had done bad things that weren't your fault didn't make you a monster... did it?
"You said you're a monster that isn't necessarily true. It's not you're fault. At least you don't want to hurt people you help them" she paused and mumbled" unlike me. Now enough talking lets get you to the head masters office."
She doubted she could carry him. Not that he looked heavy it was just she wasn't strong enough physically to carry someone. She had an idea.
"Just say very still, when I say you can start moving again. This hopefully will keep you steady and help you go faster. It's like one of those treadmills only the opposite direction."
She her eyes glowed lightning blue. Clouds came in around Alan and lifted him up a few centimetres above the ground.
"Ok you can move. It should help but you will still have to move or the clouds won't."
She felt mentally exhausted but still wanted to help him. Tho she didn't know how long she could keep this up for.
"You ready?"

He laughed, if she went unconscious due to strain it would be a hard task for both of them to move for a while. "I'm ready, but please don't strain yourself too much. I don't want us both to be unable to move, since I can't be gentlemanly and carry you in the state i'm in." He didn't want her to strain herself for him, since it would cause her pain and he used the excuse that it would be hard for him to carry them both if she passed out. He stood up a bit slowly due to his head hurting and him barely able to get his bearings, but his body wasn't damaged. He could walk, but he couldn't walk in a straight direction without falling to the ground face first. He hoped they would get to the headmaster soon and that they would not interrupt anything important, but the situation was dire. It was more dire than Alan understood at the time, since Alan could be a suitable host for the thing that wished to destroy the dimension. The headmaster was one of the only people who knew about the situation Alan was in, besides a select group of people his mentor thought could be trusted to help Alan. Alan without his glasses wouldn't go into a fight blindly even if he was angry, instead he would do research upon his enemy before fighting the enemy. He would manipulate his enemy into fighting his enemy's allies, so he wouldn't have to use too much energy. He didn't care about fighting fairly or honor, since it did no good to him as a child. Eventually his views upon this would change, but he knew that people who were too cocky to admit defeat or get help were pitifully weak and only cared about their image. People like that wouldn't survive on the streets for more then a month, no matter the amount of power they had. He knew this from personal experience and he would break someone's pride just to help them learn what true strength is, but the one thing he is sure of is that there will always be someone stronger then him. "I just hope the headmaster can fix my glasses or subdue me long enough for my mentor to get here.

She bit her lip. She hoped she could make it.
"I'm fine I should be able to make it"
She checked the door numbers.
"I think we are nearly there"
She seen the room they were looking for. Sighing in relief she knocked the door and set Alan down and dissolved the clouds. She leant agents the wall catching her breath. She had never moved a person before. It really wasn't easy.

Alan went into the room the headmaster was in and saw that the headmaster was serious when he saw the strain on Alan's face. "Heh, can you help?" He laughed a bit, but this wasn't funny at all and they both knew that. "What's wrong Alan, is something wrong with you?" Alan smiled a forced smile and showed his glasses to the headmaster. "The glasses cracked, I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up the facade of being barely hurt. Thanks to this young lady I managed to get away from anyone without seriously damaging anyone, but I think you might have to suppress me and fix my glasses before I lose my grip on my mind. " The headmaster stood up and began using a spell that would suppress Alan's mind and send Alan into a temporary state of unconsciousness. "Thank you, you saved Alan from unnecessary pain, I'm guessing you want an explanation about what's up with Alan. If you do I'd be glad to explain his circumstances and make him not have to go through the trouble of having to explain it himself." The headmaster and Alan's mentor had a close friendship and the headmaster cared about Alan's state of mind and body.

Alan was in a dream where there was simply nothing, just an eternal darkness. Somehow he felt comfortable in this dream world, unlike the one that had his other personality in it. He thought about his life and decided he would become friends with the girl who helped him, and he didn't care what rumors were spread around about the girl. Rumors about his being a monster without his glasses would soon be spreading around as well and he would have to deal with people who are too proud to admit someone is stronger than them, he knew those people only cared about proving that they're stronger than everyone else. No matter how much Alan tried staying away from those type of people, they never left him alone. Those who only fought him with a foolish goal such as rank or proving they're stronger always had a deep fear of Alan implanted in to their minds and had their pride shattered to pieces along with any respect people had for them.

While Alan was dreaming and thinking about his life, the headmaster was telling the girl who saved him from regret about Alan's history. The headmaster decided he would tell the girl a bit of advice concerning Alan." Do not show pity to him after you hear this, he hates it when people do that." The headmaster sighed and started repairing and was thinking about how to start telling Alan's life story. " Do you wish for me to start at the beginning or in the middle of his life? It's going to take quite a bit of time for me to repair his glasses, so I have enough time to tell his story and I can excuse you from any activities for the time it takes to tell his story. It's your choice if you want to know his story, but if you wish to be his friend it would be best to know what his history is." The headmaster waited for a response to his question, but he didn't stop repairing Alan's glasses.

Alex blushed as both Alan and the head master had complimented her in a way. She had never been thanked properly before but to be truthful she never had expected to be. It felt like for once she had done something good, which she hopefully had. She looked at Alan.
"Would like his story please" she said quietly, "if that's alright with you I would prefer to hear it from the beggining"
She looked at Alan wondering if he was ok. She didn't want him to be be straining himself any more. He didn't look like he was but she was new to all of this and didn't know the first thing about shadow magic.
"Will he be ok, is he straining himself?" She realised she had many questions that needed answered but she would have to wait until the story as it may contain answers to some of, if not all, of her questions. She also hoped he was ok with the headmaster telling her about him. She didn't want him to hate her. She looked around for a seat. There was a few but wasn't sure if she should sit.
"May I?" She asked glancing up at the headmaster.

She shoved her hand in her pocket in search for her pendant she always carried. She felt something cold and tapped it. She yanked her hand out of her pocket as she got an electric shock from a coin. She was like a human plasma ball she thought, not for the first time. She put her hand in the other pocket and pulled out a pendant on a piece of string. It was a blackish green colour. She clenched it in her hand. She always did this when she was on edge. It was the gem stone she was named after, alexandrite. Extremely rare yet beautiful. She knew one of its most valuable qualities is that is could change colour under different light. It made her feel calmer.

Focusing back on what was happening she looked back at Alan worried about her new friend.
