Spirit Hunters



The girl in the centre of the lake turns to face you.
So you're dead? She whispers in an almost heavenly voice. Well, you don't have many choices. You either become a Spirit Hunter, or you walk into this lake until you find a place, or person. Though I can guarantee you won't see anything or anyone if you don't become a Spirit Hunter. Spirit Hunters are given another chance... The catch? Haha, you caught me. I guess the catch it that you have to catch spirits for the rest of your second life. And there's also the fact that you're not human anymore. You're just a very, very strong spirit. If your heart gets overtaken by darkness, other Spirit Hunters will get you, and you'll be here all over again, except you won't have a second chance. Instead, I'll give you a lamp that gives you the power to see in the never-ending darkness. Then you can talk to whoever you like and find the towns where people have hung up their lamps so everyone can see. So, yes or no...?


Plot

If you're here, your answer was most likely 'Yes'. Well, if it wasn't, have fun in that darkness.
So you said yes. What harm could there be behind dying again? The truth is, only certain people are asked whether they want to be Spirit Hunters. Others just get candles. But candles can burn out, yet the lamps given to Spirit Hunters are never-ending. So yes, you were tricked. In a way.

The Spirit Hunters have been around since the first person died. Only people with strong spirits inside are asked, and others are given a candle. That's how it's always been. When they go back, they have to find a pair to work with and catch as many spirits as possible. They are all given a bag of equipment, all different and depending on personality. And that girl has always been there. Her appearance is the same to everyone, and she always seems familiar. The truth is, a boy used to stand next to her, because he couldn't decide whether he wanted to be a Spirit Hunter or not. But recently, he'd decided to be one, and he's gone back. Therefore the girl has done the same after greeting one person, and another spirit from years ago had to replace her spot until she returned.
