G. J. C. A. G. "Caligula"

"Would you like to see me dance? I like dancing. No? Fine. Go get me some seashells."

0 · 246 views · located in St. Kleio

a character in “St. Kleio”, as played by FalloutRomanae

Description

Name: Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus "Caligula"
Gender: Male
Age: 16

Description: Uhhh... I kinda found a picture... Here it is: Image
But I will just describe him anyway.
Caligula is a tall boy with pale skin and dirty blonde hair. His brown, sunken eyes sit below a broad forehead. His neck is unusually long and his legs unusually thin.

Personality: Caligula, though he hates that name, is an angry, disturbed boy who wants attention. He can be kind of annoying in this way, but when you get to know him he can be an invaluble friend. He is extremely ambitious, and often talks of how he wants to rule the country. He is also afraid that he will be the same as the original Caligula, and so he avoids any romantic relationships that come his way. He has a special fondness for animals, and has an odd habit of talking to the full moon. He wants everyone to be proud they know him, so he is very concerned with what people think of him. He might have some sort of mental disease, but no one really knows what. He doesn't really care about being different from his original (except that he doesn't want to be as perverse), so he thinks that he should rule a country and become a god. He suffers from insomnia and only sleeps three hours every night. When he does sleep, he has terrible dreams. He sometimes has these "dreams" in the daytime. And if you really want to hear something funny, ('cause this is just a laugh riot already.) how about the fact that he has epilepsy that is triggered by sleep deprivation. Ha. Ha.

Background: He was raised in the school and educated at length about his original. He has joined drama club and latin club.

Original's past: Here it is!

When your original died and how: On 24 January 41, conspirators stabbed Caligula 30 times on the Palatine Hill, assassinating him as he was speaking to a group of actors. His last words were, "Atqui vivo!" or, "I am still alive!"

Fears: romantic relationships, fading into the background, his seizures, people thinking he is stupid

Likes: animals (esp. horses :D ), dancing, acting, attention, singing, being better than everyone else, seashells.

Dislikes: his nick-name, Caligula. being ignored. women/girls. being bored.

Dreams or goal: ruling the country

What is your original famous for: Being the craziest emporer of Rome (beside Nero, of course.)

Orientation: N/A (bisexual?)

Crush: None. And he will never have one because he is frightened by his original's sexual perversity.

Theme song: Viva La Vida by Coldplay

So begins...

Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, or "Caligula" lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. He couldn't sleep. He could never sleep. His days were long and his nights longer. He sighed and closed his eyes. Maybe, if he just relaxed and tried to think of nothing but sleep... maybe he could just get a tiny bit of blessed sleep... He jumped, startled out of his skin by his alarm clock going off. "Gaaah! Di immortales, why can't you shut up?!" He slammed his fist down on the alarm clock. His fist hurt, but the offensive clock just sat there defiantly, making that awful noise. He leaped out of bed, hurled the alarm clock to the ground and jumped on it. Crunch. Zap. "Great. Now your alarm clock is destroyed." He said to himself. "Oh, well. It's not like you're going to need it." he began to mimick a classmate. "'Oh, darn, Caligula slept in late again.' Never gonna happen." He hid the remains of his clock under the bed and shuffled over to the closet. After he had changed and combed his hair, making himself at least presentable, he got his backpack and made his way to the main entrance to the school.

When he arrived in the hall he brushed past Frédéric, the headmaster, and a new girl. He frowned. He didn't like new people. New people meant new competition, which meant that he might be bested. And that made him uncomfortable. He continued walking and found a larger group of people - Adolf, Sweeney, and Anne were standing talking to each other. Gaius sighed. He liked Sweeney just fine, but that Anne disturbed him. He stopped next to Sweeney. "Hey, Sweeney." he said as affably as he could. He spoke with an odd accent, always had. It sounded slightly... Italian? But its own sound was very unique. He blinked a few times. He was so tired. He swayed a little and almost fell over, but then he regained his balance. After shaking his head quickly to clear it, he inquired sleepily, "What's happening here? Everyone staring at that girl? What did she do that was special?" He already felt jealous of her, and she hadn't even done anything except be the center of attention at the moment. It was pitiful. Gaius knew it was pitiful, but he couldn't help it. But just then Margery had appeared out of nowhere and given Sweeney a pie. Gaius rubbed his eyes with his hands. It was going to be a long day.

Gaius nodded. "Yes, that's me." he said sarcastically. "Always late to school, enjoying my fantastic dreams." Then he looked at the girl as Sweeney explained who she was. He logged the information in his mind in a special folder called 'Competition and Blackmail.' Maybe he would send her information to another file later, when she established that she wasn't a threat, but for now anything she said could and would be used against her. Margery was chattering behind him when suddenly her tone changed. She sounded... concerned. Gaius looked over at her, then saw she was looking at Sweeney, who didn't look any different to Gaius. He just looked satisfied with his meat pie. Gaius, somewhat annoyed by her emotional attachment to Sweeney, attempted to change the subject. "Hello, Margery. You didn't happen to tumble into the oven when you were making that pie, did you?" he asked with a grin.

Gaius listened to Sweeney sympathetically. He would miss the barber when he left. And it was also sad that he wouldn't get to do the job he wanted in college. Then Sweeney chided Gaius for his taunts. "Well, I guess you're right. Sorry." he said, shrugging at Margery, but it was obvious that he didn't really mean it. He was still grinning challengingly. Then Anne inserted herself into the conversation. Gaius rolled his eyes, then turned them back to Margery. But soon Anne was up in his face, and kissed his cheek. "Gaah!" Gaius jumped back, shocked. "What... What is wrong with you?? Nymphomaniac!" He rubbed his cheek as if he had been struck, glaring at Anne. "You stay away from me! Wha-? Why??" He moved behind Sweeney and Margery, trying to hide from the crazy red-head. Her hair was like a big warning sign that what ever demented being had created her had stuck on her head. Then he realized that he probably looked like a third grader, and he gritted his teeth.

Then Gaius heard a thump. The new girl had just fainted. He rushed from behind the barber to get a good look at the situation, but then was confused. There was nothing that might have scared her around. Maybe she had a health problem. Interesting. He ran over to the administrator. "What happened?" he asked, not out of any concern, but more out of cold curiosity.

Gaius' eyebrows raised a little. "Wow, a non-'genetically similar being!'" Then he grimaced at Adolf. "No, it just doesn't have the same ring to it." Then he looked back at the girl. It was odd to look at something so different, and yet so similar. He pondered: Was her soul different from his own? Her mind? Where exactly on the cosmological hierarchy was she compared to himself? Were they in different categories? He found this topic so interesting that he almost didn't hear Frédéric's question. "Hm? Oh, sure." He walked around her and grabbed her arms. "So, where are we taking her again? To class?" He had been so fascinated by the concept of an outsider, so to speak, that he really hadn't been paying attention to anything but her.

Gaius stared at the composer in disbelief. Did he really just ask him that? And with that stupid, content smile, too. Gaius squinted at him, then started loudly and sarcastically: "How has my day been? How has my day been?!? Well, let's just start with the fact that..." Then his voice trailed off as he watched Frédéric strain under the weight. That kid had really been handed the short end of the stick in life. A kid with a gift for music plus an ample portion of health problems. Sounded like a life Gaius wouldn't trade his own for any day. "My day... has been fine..." he finished with a distant tone of voice.

But then he terminated that considerate line of thought in mid-spin. What was he doing sympathizing with this kid? It wasn't like Gaius' life was perfect, or anything. Hell, at least this kid's mind was intact. Tuberculosis was manageable these days. Multiple undiagnosed mental disorders weren't. He had been told very strictly to notify the nurses if - or when, really - he began to feel effects of epilepsy or many of the other problems Caligula was known to have. Gaius, though he could feel something odd coming on, had been lying to the nurses for some time now. He just hoped they would never find out on their own.

He shook his head, blinking quickly to get himself off of that train of thought. After clearing his throat, he asked firmly and somewhat coldly, "How about yours? You know, writing music, coughing. How is that working for you?" He imitated the kid's content smile.

"You're welcome." Gaius said to Frédéric. Then he let the girl stand up after she woke up. She still seemed a little shaken, but he trusted her to know her own ability. Then he grinned when she asked who they were. He decided to give her the whole nine yards, and he did, with full Latin pronunciation and everything. "My name is Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus." Then, after a brief pause, he bit his lip and finished. "Alternately, 'Caligula.' And you're welcome, Julie." Then he watched in amusement as Adolf gibbered. The boy was probably nervous, and with good reason, too. This girl, having not grown up in the same environment as themselves, might over-react when she realized who Adolf's original was. Poor Adolf. Gaius watched Julie intently, waiting for her reaction to everything. He just hoped she wouldn't faint again.

Gaius chuckled. "Julius! That's a new one. You can just call me Gaius. And I'm fine, Adolf, thanks for asking." Then Julia asked for Adolf's name. Gaius stared at him as he tried to spit it out. And he did. Gaius felt that someone needed to stabilize the situation before it even started to go downhill. "But what's in a name? You know, it's a Juliet quote, and you're Juliette? It's... funny? No?" The boy fell silent and closed his eyes, hoping for the best from Julia.

Gaius sighed in relief. She was so calm. It was good. He hadn't been sure how she'd take waking up here as opposed to waking up in her home, the whole incident having been a dream. She didn't freak out or try to bother anyone else. She was pleasant, and kind of funny, which was a relief. He imagined Adolf appreciated it as well. Gaius laughed. "Naw, Shakespeare's a nice guy. Sort of." he thought for a moment. "Kind of... Not really. Um, anyway, we should probably get to class." He looked at his watch. "It looks like we completely missed homeroom, though. Just out of curiosity, what class do you have first, Julie?" As he spoke, he tentatively moved Julie's information out of his 'Competition and Blackmail' folder and into his 'Pending Approval' folder. It was hard to keep track of all the metaphorical folders, but it was the way he worked. If everyone was catagorized and taken care of, then getting and staying on the top should be easy to manage.

"No, it's kind of forced down our throats." Gaius replied to Julie. But then the smile disappeared from his face when Nurse Nightingale appeared. He didn't like talking to her at all. She thought that she knew what would happen to him just because she had read somewhere in a hisory book that Caligula was insane. Everytime he went to the nurse, she probed him with questions about his health that he didn't have answers to. He didn't blame Frédéric for lying to her. Then the boy had a coughing attack and Gaius watched, wide-eyed. He didn't really feel like he could do anything to help the poor kid, so he just watched, then looked at Ms. Nightingale worriedly. She seemed to doubt that Frédéric was, in fact, 'okay.' Annoyed by the nurse, Gaius grabbed Frédéric's arm after he recovered and began to walk down the hall with him in tow. "What was that you said?" Gaius asked loudly. "You have philosophy next? Okay, let's go, then. I have that first, too. Bye, Julie, bye Adolf!" he waved back at them as he fled.

Gaius was breathing heavily as he replied to Frédéric, "No where is far enough away from Nurse Nightingale." Then he put his hands on his knees and huffed and puffed a little. He had been noticing himself growing slightly weaker recently. More tired, nervous, fragile. It disturbed him, because it felt different from his seizures. It was constant and unknown. It was definitely a different health problem that he had not been warned about. This was slightly comforting, though, because it meant that it had not yet crossed the nurse's mind, which in turn meant that she wouldn't ask him about it.

Gaius straightened up abruptly at the other boy's question. "I'm fine." he said firmly, though he wasn't convinced that he was right. He certainly didn't feel fine. He leaned against the wall. "Just a little tired." But then he stopped. There it was. A seizure. He felt it coming on, and he had to stop it. 'It' was a feeling that started in his toes, and creeped its way up his legs, seeping into the bones and muscles of his body. He concentrated, terrified, squeezing his eyes shut tight and clenching his teeth. "Oh, God..." he muttered through his teeth. He slid down the wall quickly, hitting the floor hard. He curled up in a ball and waited. Then, by some miracle, it passed. He had successfully driven it off. Opening his eyes slowly, he took a shaky, deep breath. Then he realized that he was on the floor, sitting against the wall. "I... actually might not be fine." he revised weakly. He tried to stand up, but his legs wouldn't work. "I'll just... sit here for a while if you all don't mind..."

Gaius watched as Sweeney and Frédéric sprang into action. "No," he protested weakly from his place on the floor, "I really don't need any help..." He flinched away from the wet cloth on his forehead. "Just go to your classes or your seats or whatever, you're late enough already!" But they seemed intent on helping him. "No, it was not a seizure, and no, I do not want to talk to Nurse Nightingale. I just... sprained my ankle." It was a dum excuse, and Gaius knew they wouldn't fall for it, but he just wanted them to go away. He liked attention, but not this kind - where people actually seemed to care. He waved away any offers of help or rest, beginning to get irritated. "Please! Go away! I'll manage on my own." He tried desperately to stand again, but his legs still wouldn't move. He threw his head back against the wall in frustration. "I'll just be a little late to Latin III. It's okay, though. We're going to be translating Livy, and I hate Livy. So innacurate." he continued, trying to make a joke out of the situation, "You know he wrote that elephants can practically go scuba-diving?" He forced a laugh. "Ridiculous..." He wasn't so much shaken from the seizure itself, but by the fact that he had almost had one. He was terrified by them, and this phobia was what caused his insomnia, which in turn caused his siezures. It was a mess. The only was it could be more of a mess was if he had to talk to that nurse, which was something Gaius would never do. Not if he could help it.

"Actually, could you help me stand up?" Gaius finally asked, holding out his hand to Sweeney.

Gaius grunted as Sweeney pulled him up. Then his legs gave out and he leaned heavily on the barber. "To the right, six doors down." He replied, pointing. He was too tired to comment on either Frédéric's or Sweeney's other remarks, except to say, "Thanks, you two." Then he focused on nothing else but getting his legs to obey him and move. After a minute or so, he got them to budge a little, then he was able to semi-stand up if he leaned on his friend. At first, he was sort of resistant to relying on other people, but then he started to be comforted by it. He was a very independent person, but with the crazy day so far, his pride slowly gave out to need. "Just down the hall." he said, not sure if he was speaking to himself or to Sweeney.

Gaius laughed shakily, leaning against the wall next to the door. "Thanks, man. Bye." He waved back to Sweeney. Then, as he stood there after Sweeney left, his pride returned. " 'If you need me.' Tch." he scoffed, shaking his head. "I'm fine by myself." He pushed off the wall and stumbled forward, trying to get to the door on his left, but lost control and ended up smashing into the one across the hall. After proving his assumptions about his own ability woefully wrong, he pushed himself back up to a standing position using that wall. Then he leaned his head against it. This year was going to be awful. As he looked around, he saw Adolf walking with Julie a long distance down the hall. He waved at them, contemplating how he was going to get across the hall into his Latin class. There was nothing for it. He would be disastrously late if he didn't get a move on.

He pushed himself off the wall hard and lurched towards the door. But then it opened and the teacher came out, holding a paper. There was nothing for it. Gaius crashed top speed into the woman and then staggered into the classroom, finally banging into an empty desk and falling to the ground in a heap. The ensuing silence was almost too much to take. Gaius pulled himself up off the floor using the desk that he had collided with, then turned to face the teacher.

'That was quite an entrance! So eager to get to class, are you?' the teacher said, more surprised than angry.

There was a snigger from one corner of the room, then another and another. A quick glance from the teacher was enough to stop that, though. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I, uh, tripped." Gaius said shame-facedly. This year was not starting out very well.

'Yes, well, I was just going to go copy this paper. You can take a seat now.'

"Um, where?"

'Oh, the desk you crashed into should be fine.'

"Oh, okay." Gaius slowly lowered himself into his chair, looking around the room uneasily. He hoped to God that Nero wasn't here. Because that would be the last straw. But there he was. Smirking in the corner.

'Hey, Caligula.' he said, grinning.

"Gaius. It's Gaius, you moron." Gaius turned around in his seat and put his head in his hands, resolving that tomorrow would be better.

'So, ablative absolute. How do you spot it?'

Gaius rolled his eyes. This was second year stuff. Why were they still reviewing it? He raised his hand to answer.

'Yes, Gai-'

'Gaius, it is Chopin!'

Gaius whipped his head around to see Sweeney standing in the doorway. He looked quite concerned. "What's wrong with him?!?" Gaius started to ask, but Sweeney was gone, dashing down the hall. "Sorry, ma'am," Gaius explained to the flustered teacher, trying to stand up out of his chair. "This is a medical emergency, and as you all know, I am a doctor."

'What? No you're not -'

"Um, yes I am. And don't doubt me, or I might come after you with a scalpel." Gaius fell out of his chair and onto the floor. His legs were still a little stubborn. But then he stumbled to his feet and ran somewhat haphazardly after Sweeney. He eventually caught up with him, but then when he tried to stop he ended up falling on his face. After peeling himself off the floor, he jogged along with Sweeney who now had Margery with him too. "What's wrong with Frédéric?? He's not dying again, is he?"

Gaius watched in annoyance as Otton and Richard and Sweeney faced off. Then he watched in growing amazement as Sweeney dealt with them rather forcefully. Wow, Gaius thought, He really cares about Frederick, doesn't he? Gaius couldn't decide whether he admired Sweeney for his fierce loyalty, or if he admired him for the way he dealt with the two jerks. He admired him, in any case. By the time he was done thinking and being amazed, they were on the move again. Then some random guy ran up and started demanding information. Apparently he was called Sam, and he had a lot of questions. Gaius answered somewhat stiffly, "We are running towards a medical emergency, that was Frederic, and of course I'm fine. I'm hardly the person to ask that question of." Of course, then he had to stumble again, almost falling over. He regained his balance, however. "What are you...? Why...?" Gaius shook his head in confusion. "Sorry, why do you care?"

Gaius listened with raised eyebrows. This guy, Sam, seemed to be right. This place was pretty messed up. Then they arrived at the nurse's office, and Gaius moved over to the wall outside the office and sat down. Then he gestured for Sam to come sit with him. He was interesting because Gaius had never seen him before. "Yeah, we're all really worried about Frederic. Days here aren't always like this, I promise." He realized that he had been wringing his hands and he stopped immediately, irritated. He shouldn't be this nervous. Frederic was going to be fine. Of course he was. All he had to do for a while was talk to this new guy. "So, um... Who are you? Apart from 'Sam'? I mean, names aren't that helpful around here."

Gaius raised his eyebrows at seeing yet another non-clone. One was interesting, two was incredible. Gaius wasn't exactly sure what to think when Sam mentioned his parents. Gaius didn't have parents, of course, since he was cloned. But he did have the teachers. He tried to imagine what it would be like if Mr. Lehrer died. Obviously, it would be terrible. "Sorry about your parents." he said in an almost monotone voice. He wasn't exactly sure what to say. "I've never heard about a Mr. or Mrs. Reynolds that I can remember." He paused for a moment, trying to remember. Nope. Oh, well. "I am a clone of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus. Just... call me Gaius." Gaius stared at Sam's hand for a moment, then warily shook it. This kid was being so friendly. What did he want? "Unfortunately, yes. A lot of people around here are very touchy. But I guess there are some people who aren't touchy. You are speaking to one of the former." He shrugged, looking in Frederic's direction in worry. "The one with the cough is Chopin." he said to Sam, though his eyes were still watching Frederic. Then he turned back, "You've got to understand, though. We aren't our originals. Not at all. We're just... 'genetically similar.' At least, that's how Adolf prefers to say it."
