Physical Description:
One of the most notable things about Commander Rilem’s appearance is that he is smaller to the eye than many. Although he isn’t particularly short, his bulk and stature simply suggest smallness. As is characteristic of Bajorans, he has six ridges on his nose and usually wears a traditional Bajoran earring on his right ear. Even when off duty, he tends to dress on the sharper side; he prefers to have his hair always slicked back, dress pants, and a vest or Bajoran semi-formal wear for his torso. When the occasions demand especially formal attire, he will conform to the situation: If it is a characteristically “human” or “Federation” event, he will adorn a classic black tuxedo and bowtie. However, if the occasion does not necessarily lean toward being human, he will choose traditional Bajoran robes. The only scar that is noticeable on his body is a burn mark that stretches from his lower spine to his mid-back; it simply traces the line of his spine. Usually, though, he prefers to have clothing covering this part of his back, so it isn’t really seen.

General Overview:
Tariel is the kind of man that is happy when he sees others happy. He is kind-hearted and an avid conversationalist; he will start talking to anyone who comes into contact with him, as long as the situation suits it. Religion is extremely important to him, so you will not hear him curse or say anything negative toward the Prophets. He also derives pleasure from culture, but not only his own. One of his largest fascinations is the culture of others, so he spends his free time learning more about the habits of hobbies of other species. He has a fear of being alone, and also a slight fear of love and the idea of courtship. Because of this, he tends to be a friend to all, he does not delve into extremely personal relationships all-too-often.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
-Level headed: in making decisions about Operations, he can be counted on to keep his cool.
-Musical: He plays many instruments, and his melodies are lovely.
-Agile: His slightness in body has made him quick.
-Fearful: Of enclosed and/or quiet spaces.
-Easily Persuaded: It doesn’t take too terribly much to change Tariel from one side of an argument to another, so he tends to trust too easily.
-Technology: He has always had a hard time figuring out technology.
Ambitions:
-Tariel is not opposed to the idea of Captaining a ship.
-Returning to Bajor and becoming Vedek.
-Adopting a child.
Hobbies Interests:
-Music: One can always find Tariel either playing music himself, or watching others play music. He especially loves learning new intruments or pieces.
-Religion: Tariel enjoys praying and participating in Bajoran rites and rituals.
-Animals: He loves animals! He finds all shapes and sizes of them entertaining.
-Tennis: For some reason, the Human sport of tennis has caught his attention, and whenever he gets a free minute, he likes to try his hand.
History:
Tariel had a fairly normal life. He was born on Bajor to a loving mother and father, both of whom were important figures in the society of his town. Although the household he was raised in was racist toward Cardassians because of their involvement with Bajor, he was raised to tolerate all.
Tariel spent most of the time that he spent with his parents worshipping the Prophets or learning about them. When he was away from his parents, he loved to play with his friends. However, he found that, when his friends would want to wrestle or do other things that required physical strength, he would seem to fall slightly behind. Although he was quick, he didn’t have a good deal of strength to his name. Still, he found joy in playing with the other children, especially when they would play games of strategy or intellect. These were the beginnings of his desire to go into Starfleet; the art of strategy intrigued him.
He also had a little sister, Jaxa. She was five years younger than him, and the two had a happy childhood together. He served as a mentor and protector for her, while she provided hours of entertainment and silliness for him. Up until the time that they became “adults,” (around 20 years of age) the two were as close as a brother and sister could be. But when the Cardassians sided with the Federation after Tariel had joined Starfleet, Jaxa could not accept it. She hated everything having to do with the Cardassians and would not stand to be involved with the Federation. In fact, she joined a rebel troupe against the Federation. These differing views in politics caused a fissure to form between the two, who have only spoken in passing since.
Tariel joined the Starfleet Academy and received an education to prepare him for the worlds beyond.
