Zekial Atreides

"You may have hired me as a mercenary, but I am still a soldier."

0 · 567 views · located in The Star Wars Galaxy

a character in “Star Wars The Old Republic: Outcasts”, as played by Eisenhorn

Name: Zekial "Zek" Atreides

Age: 32

Race: Human

Class: Mercenary

Force or Non-Force?: Non-force

Appearance: Zek is a thin and quiet looking fellow, even in armor. Standing at about 5' 10", and most of that being completely muscle, there is little about him that is not streamlined to fit combat. His already short dark brown hair is kept further in place by a pair of tinted goggles, designed to reduce any optical damage to the dark brown eyes. A pair of black talon tatoo's are on the right side of his face, the only real attention getting feature on his face, and even then, they are often obscured. Battered desert tan body armor, resistant against blasters and explosives, is patched together over a blue tank top, showing the line of work all too well. The armor was light weight enough not to bog him down, but hefty enough to protect against most conventional threats, even limited chemical with the face mask.

Personality: Zek may be a mercenary, but that does not make him a crude murderer. He has a sense of honor, only doing what the mission he was hired for requires. He won't go out of his way to, say, slaughter people who might have perhaps saw something. He will kill in self defense, or if that is what the contract requires, but that is about it. Outside a fight and in one, he is quiet and easy to get along with, and nigh impossible to anger. Nothing short of killing, or trying to kill, friends in front of him will rile him up, as trying to kill him is just part of the trade. Zek is responsible, and will take responsibility for his actions, even if he was paid by someone else to make such decisions. In short, he is a soldier without an army, and barely gets by because of it.

Starting Equipment:
Blaster Carbine
Heavy Blaster Pistol
Cortosis Weave Vibroblade

History: Zekial Atreides was the son of a family of soldiers, and he would grow up as a soldier would have expected. His father was an ex-mercenary at this point, having spent most of his life having one too many close scrapes with enemies of the Republic, including traitors, to know any other lifestyle. His mother was a field surgeon, having patched the man together more than a few times. The father had retired on Corellia, and the mother gone, Zekial's father went about raising him the only way he knew how. Life early on for Zekial was as harsh as bootcamp would be for a recruit soldier. Even if his father had known otherwise, he would have done so anyway. Schooling was average for him, and he kept his head low. He graduated a Corellian school shortly before enlisting, with a bit of prodding by his father, with the Republic as a Recon Commando.

Being a Recon Commando, even a century after the Jedi Civil War, was a very busy period of life for Lt. Atreides. Being an officer thanks to his father's influence, he led multiple missions to clean up dissident operations that regular forces were not equipped to handle. He rapidly learned how nasty his kind of warfare got, and quietly loathed it. Being a soldier for the Republic was one matter, but the zealous, borderline bloodlust some of his subordinates, and even the occasional superior, had was disturbing to the young soldier. He had entered the Commando's after two years service and training, having enlisted at the age of 18. From his 20th birthday to his 29th he served in the Commando's with distinction. He left the Republic's Army shortly after he turned 29, having grown restless with the armed forces. He was left with little, and had to start from scratch, slowly building up what he has now, and even then that is not much.

Zekial is torn between what he has seen and learned as a mercenary, and what his father and the Commando's taught him as a soldier. On one hand, he is, in essence, a killer for hire. On the other, however, he is still a soldier. He is a soldier without an army, however, and still makes do as best he can, scraping out enough to keep living.

So begins...
