In a small town somewhere in the mountains of Japan, there once lived two young children who shared not a single thing in common - except for their friendship to the ever-loving and kind Nakamura Yuki. It was their friendship with this little girl that brought them together, willing or not, and all but forced these two despicable misfits into spending nearly every day locked together. XX
Yuki was a sweet girl, who wanted nothing more than for her two best friends to get along. Every day, she took them each by the hand and led the two rivals around their hometown, spouting stories and theories and compliments all the while. She never allowed them to be alone, to feel sad or unwanted. But when they were left without Yuki, all they did was argue, on & on & on. XXX
All of Yuki's hard work began to pay off after a couple of years, and her two friends began to argue less and less. That is, until they were all separated. XXX
The move sparked an argument between her friends, anger and sadness over the separation pushing them to hurt one another. They refused to say goodbye to one another, and left without fixing their words. Yuki sent letters that received no reply, calls that were never answered, visits that never got planned. Her friends all but disappeared, leaving a big hole in Yuki's heart. XXXX
Years passed. The three childhood friends led different lives, and became different people. But they never lost the hurt from the move, the guilt from the words said that day. And never was the guilt so bad as the day the two rivals received the news of Yuki's death, suicide at the age of twenty-three. XX
In Yuki's will, one thing stood out - the order that everything she owned be left to her two childhood friends, the ones who had been both her childhood saviors, as well as the cause of an overwhelming sadness that never faded. XX

So begins...

Finally, no more damn school. Now I can just sit at home and do nothing ever.

As the final bell of the year rang, Haru grabbed his almost-empty schoolbag and made his way out of the classroom and down the hall, exiting the building without bothering to say hello or goodbye to anyone else. There wasn't really anyone there who was his friend anyway. The air was hotter outside, and Haru rolled up his sleeves and he walked out of the courtyard. Behind him, he could hear voices coming from the gym, where the graduation ceremony for the third years was taking place.

The small roads were dotted with students fresh out of school and not many other people, since most were either working or already out of town for the summer. He supposed some were probably attending the graduation ceremony as well, if they were even allowed to do that. It didn't really matter to Haru. He didn't really care much about school, and while he got over-average grades, he didn't think it to be all that fair for him to get just a simple piece of paper after twelve years of pure hell.

Haruka made his way through town to the Kimono Shop that connected to their house, opening the door to find his mother hard at work sewing a blue and violet Koi-patterned girl's Yukata. "I'm home, here to work with you the rest of the summer break." Haru said, waving slightly to his mother and setting his back at the door between their home and shop. He'd always found it odd how his mother could spend all of her time in her shop, but technically still be at home.

"Well lucky me then, I get to see my son all day every day for a whole month~"

Behind him Haru could hear his mother's light and cheerful laugh, her comment true in every way. He never left the house as it was and he had nothing better to do with his time than work with his mother. Soon enough, the bell above the shop door jingled, and in came a group of grade school girls. They chatted with Haru's mother for a bit before purchasing a light pink Sakura-patterned Yukata and running off to who-knows-where. Haru wasn't surprised they could buy it themselves.

"Haru dear, would you mind going to the post office to get the shipment of cloth that came in this morning? Shun called me earlier about it, but I haven't had time with this order being due tomorrow."

"Sure, I'll make sure to send him your regards." Haru set down the inventory sheet he'd been going over and stepped outside, grabbing his motorscooter from where it was leaning on the side of the shop. The post office was on the other end of town and too far to carry a big box all the way back. As he passed by, a couple of his mother's friends waved to him in greeting, though he couldn't wave back. It didn't take him long to reach the post office. Walking in, he said his hello to Shun, the manager, and gathered his package before leaving.

As he stepped out onto the street he couldn't help but recognize a familiar face passing by.
