Twisted Shades, we call them, dark entities whose violent nature is all that can destroy humanity. Creatures that roam the Earth beside us, leaving nothing but death and tragedy in their wake. They are evil, merciless, vile - and they must be stopped. XX
A Shade is created as the result of a single human's negative emotions and desires. They are born without conscience, driven only by a need for power. The creatures latch onto a human whose sense of self is weak. They attach, feed off their despair. They influence their human host's every decision, and eventually corrupt their soul. XX
War, genocide, suicide - all of these are choices brought on by the influence of a Shade. Once a Shade finds its way into a human's heart, it is nearly impossible to remove it, and the human soul will completely detach from the body, allowing the Shade to take over and creating nothing more than a walking, talking, hollow shell. XXXX
If a human's negativity is strong enough, the resulting Shade will find itself not needing to feed off another human. Instead, they will transform into a monster, able to control whom it destroys and capable of making decisions during a fight. These higher-level Shades often attract smaller ones, who feed off its immense power to grow bigger. XX
But for a shadow to be born, a light must first exist and give reason to the darkness. XX
The Sorcier Elementaire (noun) : a world-wide government organization solely dedicated to the containment and extermination of any Retorta Umbrae that pose an imminent threat. XX
The Elemental Sorcerers, humans born with magical blood that allows them to see the very creatures that haunt their dreams. They are the only weapon humanity has in the battle against the Shades. Each is born with the ability to harness one of the six elements: fire, water, air, earth, light, or shadow. Most can only control one element. XXXX
However, there are those who are capable of harnessing up to three different elements at once. These sorcerers are extremely rare, and the the elements they are born to control must be able to cooperate with one another - for example, water and earth. This means that such sorcerers are often unbalanced in their elemental skills. XX
Therefore, whenever these powerful sorcerers are discovered, they are given a partner whose elemental gifts contradict their own, balancing the magical flow and allowing each of the six elements to be used in a battle. Unfortunately, these powerful sorcerers often attract powerful Shades, which only gives them more work to get at. XX
