GENERAL APPEARANCE

Kazuo is often commented that in the future, he really should consider taking up a career as a model, as he certainly can impress just about anyone because of how hunky he is. Aside from his impressive height that towered most people he came across, Kazuo also has a very muscular build as he's literally ripped from the bottom to the top. He's also very flexible. This is the result of his 5 years of swimming and working out restlessly.

He has a neat and short dark brown hair, but it wasn't the most standing out feature on his face. Kazuo was born with unusual droopy teal eyes that easily make him quite stood out. However, it was a feature that complimented his look and his younger brother commented that sometimes they really shine like stars. He has a fair complexion and a few scars on his back and legs, though they aren't too visible.

In terms of attire, Kazuo has a wide range of clothes in his wardrobe. He doesn't follow any specific style of clothing as most what he usually wears are what he felt comfortable wearing.

Ever since Kazuo is a child, everyone usually have the impression of him as a very extroverted and gregarious individual. He can get along with just about anyone and is capable of making friends easily. He enjoys companionship and is always there to lend a helping hand for those who needed him. He treats people around him all equally, believing that no one deserved to be mistreated. Kazuo is a reliable man who cares a lot for the welfare of those who are important to him.

However, what truly makes Kazuo a good man is his protectiveness and bravery. He never afraid to stand up and defend his friends and families, even when the whole world is standing against them. Rather than letting someone to suffer alone, Kazuo is willing to share all that burdens with them. He never asked for a repay, as seeing his loved one smiling and happy is enough to make him the most contented man in the world.

Although Kazuo is selfless, people are usually attracted to him because of his looks only. So, he had always hope that he could find someone whom he can protect and be loyal to with all of his heart.

HISTORY

With Kazuo, life had never been too quiet nor too eventful. He's well-aware that there will always be moment of up and down and he could never seize to be on the move all the time. But for him, what truly matters is how much he can try to bring happiness to those around him and defend them from all harms that could possibly come to them. Twenty years ago, in an average house in Sapporo, Kazuo was born as the first child of a loving and hardworking couple. They aren't nearly rich, there are times that they are even necessitous, but they were a happy and warm family that anyone could have possibly dream of.

Kazuo's father, Daisuke, was a host who works in a local host bar near his house while his mother, Kasumi, is a high-school English teacher. While they are always busy with their work to bring food on table everyday, they've raised their son well and it is thanks to their contribution that Kazuo can become who he was today. Even as a child, Kazuo has always been bright and outgoing. He's a fun-loving boy who never seemed to rest just for a moment. His parents had taught him to always be kind and always protect those who are weaker than him, the very words that had followed him for the rest of his life.

When Kazuo reached the age of 8, their family welcomed a new member. Since the moment his younger brother, Akira, was born, he had been very protective of him. He loves his brother so much and often playing with him, to the point that everyone could have thought that he was a shotacon. And so, their family just live on happily like that, until the tragedy struck.

Only two years later after giving birth to her second son, Kasumi died because of cancer. It was a trauma that had always pained both Daisuke and his sons very much. However, at his mom's funeral, Kazuo didn't cry at all. It was because of the final words that his mother gave him. She told him to always be strong and that someday, he will find the person whom he can show his strength and loyalty to. Later that night, when a shooting star was seen on the night sky, Kazuo made a wish upon it, hoping that one day his mother's words will come true.

He found out that he was gay when he was 15 and since then had always sneakily hid gay magazines as well as other "inappropriate" materials under his bed. But unbeknownst to him, his father had always known about his sexuality. Thankfully, because Daisuke is also a bisexual himself, Kazuo was accepted and even encouraged to be true to himself. Before he knows it, Kazuo had graduated from high school and managed earn a spot Tokyo University, major in English and Social Study. This, is where the new journey of his life truly begins.

Bidding goodbye to his peaceful home city, Kazuo set off to the energetic and busy capital city of Tokyo along with his best friend, Takumi. He doesn't know what is there for him in the future, but living in a new place, meeting new people, making new friends, all challenges are waiting for him to overcome. Somehow, Kazuo also has a feeling that here, he will be able to find the person who was meant for him - the one whom he can love and devote with all of his heart.

It was a rainy morning, when a shower pour down on the city of Sapporo, covered everything in a seemingly endless, cruel white veil.

Inside a room of a local hospital, a young woman was lying on her bed. As she weakly gazed over family who was standing around her, she finally felt at peace. She knows for sure that her time is coming. There are still so many things that she still regretted about. She felt it was a pity that she had to go when there's still many unfinished things she wanted to do, as well as an unfulfilled duty that she had left behind. But, after all the happiness she had experienced, she knows that she's at peace now.

Her youngest son, who was clinging to the bed tightly, cried for her, asked her not to leave them behind. Her eldest son was holding her hand tightly, but he didn't cry, because she has always taught him to be strong no matter what the circumstance is. And, the man she loved with all of her life, the man who had always been together with her and helped her to build such a happy and warming family, was also standing next to her.

She can clearly saw the the pain in their eyes, and it makes her felt a slight sting in her heart. If only she could live just a little bit longer, if only she could be with the family she adorns more than anything in the world.

But, she knows for that she mustn't let them felt empty even if she isn't going to be around them anymore. Feeling that it the call of the afterlife is drawing nearer and nearer. She held each of their hand, and told them the last words she had always wanted to say before leaving this world for good.

First, she told her youngest son to always be a good boy. He shouldn't cry all the time and must always be strong, because she will always be with him to aid him. He must always listen to his brother and his father and know how to behave well in the presence of adults. And followed his mother's word, the boy stopped crying.

Second, she apologized her husband for leaving him so soon. She recounted how happy she was that she had met him and fallen in love with him. And, she entrusted him with the duty that she hasn't accomplished. She wanted him to always take good care of their sons in her place, and she will never blame him should he ever move on. But the man, who's ever loyal and faithful with his wife, sworn that she will forever be the one in his heart.

And lastly, she encouraged her eldest son to always be protective of his family. She always knows that hint of loneliness in his eyes and one day for sure, he will find the one whom he can show his strength and loyalty to. Until then, he must always stand strong, and defend those who are weaker. And he nodded. These words had followed him and clung to him for all his life. They have always been his motivation to move on whenever he fell from hardships.

Finally, without any regret on her mind, nor any doubt that troubling her heart, the woman can finally close her eyes in peace. At last, she can see the light. And she passed away.

Kazuo slowly opened his eyes as the voice that echoed through the mic system of the train was heard. He was leaning his head against the window where he was sitting and have been sleeping ever since he boarded the train. It seemed that it's still an hour away until the train reached Tokyo. Outside, the scenery still passing by in a flash and their trip has been quite smooth. It's hard to believe that now he's already on his way to study college at a whole new city. It feels as if it was only yesterday he stepped his feet into high school for the first time.

"Oh, already gotten up, Kazu-chan?" Takumi spoke up as he moved his eyes away from the magazine he was reading, "It's still a while before we made it there, you know."

"Yeah, I've heard already." Kazuo stretched his arms and said, "I wonder if my dad can really take care of himself and Aki-chan as he said."

"Just because he works as a host doesn't mean he's unreliable. It's hard to believe that guy is turning 40 this year. He looks way younger than my dad." Takumi grinned as he patted his best friend, "Still, if there's something I would be worry about, I would hope that my mom wouldn't have an affair with him or something. She's pretty much a frequent customer at his bar."

Kazuo chuckled, "Well, that's certainly sound bad. I just hope he's not bringing any woman or man home when I'm not around though."

"Just let him be, Kazu-chan. He's been lonely long enough. What you should be worry now is to find a son-of-law as his request, don't you think? But if you couldn't find one then..." Takumi grinned as he held Kazuo's chin and said in a flirtatious manner, "I would be very happy to be your spouse forever."

"Quit it, Taku." He knocked his hand away.

And so, they chatted with each other and play some games together until the train finally arrived at Tokyo. It wasn't their first time here, and Tokyo is pretty much the same as Sapporo, albeit bigger and more crowded, so it wasn't too strange for them. The faculty in Tokyo University told them that they need to get a room at the school's dormitory complex first before coming to school tomorrow. So they took the bus to the building.

As soon as they arrived, they were greeted by the dorm supervisor. As arranged, Kazuo stayed in a room on the twenty-fifth floor with a fellow college student named Osawa Hikari, while Takumi stayed in another room on the same floor. They had hoped that they could stay together, that would be very convenient, but at least they didn't live too far away.

"Well, see ya later, Kazu-chan." Takumi said when they've made it to their respective floor.

"Yeah, later." Kazuo smiled as they bumped fist as Takumi made his way into his own room. As he walked to his room, he pondered over the name of his roommate. The Osawa family is a very prestigious family in Kyoto and one of the richest family in Japan. He wondered why the son of such a rich family would stay at a normal complex like this, instead of a penthouse or a mansion. But Kazuo has never been someone who would judge another by their look or social status. Perhaps he can get along with this Hikari guy. They better, because they're going to stick together until the graduate.

The first thing he saw when he made it to the door, the first thing he saw was the cute little note written by his soon-to-be roommate, which he chuckling at. Interesting guy. Well, if you've said so. Kazuo inserted the key given to him and opened the door. "Hello. I'm coming in." He greeted politely as he put off his shoes and put them on the shelf as made his way through the genkan to the living room.

And, he saw a man with a rather skinny stature with a rather unusual, but beautiful emerald eyes. "Ohayo, you must be Osawa Hikari-san. I'm Nakajima Kazuo, but I supposed you've already known." Kazuo said politely with a smile as he raises his arm to his roommate, "I hope we can get along from now on."

In the spacious foyer of his home in Kyoto, Hikari sat on a pristine white couch next to his elder sister, Akari. Their parents sit in a matching couch on the opposite side of a glass coffee table, both smiling fondly at their two children. Despite how formal the meeting seems, there is no tension in the air, even as the four of them sit in silence. A minute passes before their father begins to speak. "Akari, Hikari, your mother and I have decided that its about time we figure out who is going to take over the family lineage, should the two of us perish. Traditionally, the firstborn male is the one who is expected to become the next family head. However, we usually don't follow all those traditions, so its Hikari's place to choose~" XX
Hikari himself shifted slightly in his seat, his gaze turning to the nice polaroid camera in his lap. "...I feel that I would much rather spend my traveling, instead of being stuck here tending to the family business. I love my home, but I just don't believe I'm cut out for managing a multi-million dollar company. Nee-san would be much better at that, I think." Hikari's mother smiled, and Akari pulled him into a hug. "As for me, I would love to take over the family business! Someone needs to, and I agree with Micchan. I can't really see him managing our company either. Is that okay?" XX
"Of course! After all, I did say that it was his choice, didn't I?" Hikari felt himself smile, and the two siblings enveloped their parents in a group hug. "Otou-san, okaa-san. Would it be alright if one day, I decide to go to Tokyo and attend University there?" He asked, even though he already knew the answer. His parents smiled at him, and his sister ruffled his hair with a playful grin. "If that's what you've decided you want to do, then yes~" XXX
Image

Seven years had passed since that day, since that conversation had taken place. Akari had long since left to study abroad in America, and she rarely called, instead preferring to send letters from whatever state she was currently staying in. Hikari himself had also left home, though he hadn't moved quite as far away. Tokyo was very different from Kyoto. It was busier, louder, and much more grey. Where Kyoto had been filled with beautiful shrines and wildlife, Tokyo was filled with tall skyscrapers and anime cafes and shops selling just about anything. It'd taken quite a while to get used to it. XXXX
Now, six months after he'd first moved to Tokyo, Hikari sat at his kotatsu table and stared out the open window at the blue sky as wispy white clouds. His typewriter sat in front of him, several sheets of paper stacked on either side of it, some covered in words and others completely blank. Houseplants were everywhere - on the windowsill, on the kitchen counter, on the table, on the floor - and all of them were in excellent condition, some even starting to bloom. Hikari turned his gaze back to the typewriter, and to the words he'd been typing before he'd fallen into his daydream. He has yet to arrive. XX
Ah, that's right. My new roommate is supposed to be arriving in Tokyo today. Nakajima Kazuo, wasn't it? Smiling gently, Hikari leaned his head on his hand. About two weeks prior, he'd put in the request for a roommate, despite the fact that none of his classmates wanted anything to do with him. He didn't really like being alone, and he figured that sharing a dorm with someone would be the easiest and fastest way to solve the issue. He had been decently surprised when it only took them a couple of days to find someone, and today was the day Nakajima Kazuo was scheduled to arrive in Tokyo. XX
Hikari straightened the stacks of paper scattered about the table and let out a sigh, typing out a few sentences about what he knew about the male so far. He was male - obviously - and was from the Sapporo district. They were in the same year, which meant they were most likely the same age. And that was all he knew. As he typed, Hikari was careful not to chip the dark green paint on his nails. Akari had sent several bottles of nail polish in a package along with her most recent letter, and Hikari wasn't about to let his sister's gift go to waste. Nee-san would have my head if she thought I didn't wear it. XX
Hikari stopped typing as he heard the door open, and his head turned on instinct toward the genkan. He got to his feet as the man entered the main room, and the first thing he noticed was how tall he was. Hikari wasn't small by any means, but Kazuo was still a head taller. The second thing he noticed were his bright blue eyes, which were just as uncommon in Japan as his own green eyes were. Funny how that is what we have in common. XXX
"Ohayo, you must be Osawa Hikari-san. I'm Nakajima Kazuo, but I supposed you've already known. I hope we can get along from now on." Nodding affirmatively, Hikari bowed politely before shaking Kazuo's hand. "Please, feel free to call me Hikari if you'd like. I've personally grown tired of people at this school saying my surname so often, they never use it in kind ways. And I agree, it would be very nice if we could be friends~" Hikari smiled gently to Kazuo and folded his hands behind his back, stepping silently across the room and sliding open the door to the empty bedroom. "Your room is here. I've never really used it before, but I did make sure it was cleaned before your arrival, so hopefully it will be to your liking, Nakajima-san." XXX
"My room is straight across from yours, and please, don't hesitate to ask me if you need anything. I'll leave you to unpack, please let me know if you have any questions." With another gentle smile, Hikari stepped past Kazuo and returned to the kotatsu, eagerly typing out every detail about Kazuo's appearance and mannerisms. Well, at least the mannerisms he'd seen so far. Hikari couldn't lie and say that the man wasn't attractive, so he did say so, adding the sentence to the surprisingly lengthy description of his eyes. I suppose he must not care about my family status, if he was so polite. Or perhaps he just isn't showing his distaste. Either way, he seems like a pretty nice guy, so I have no reason not to be just as polite back to him, do I? XXX

Kazuo blinked in surprise a little upon hearing that Hikari wanted him to address him by his given name, rather his family name, due to the fact that everyone seemed to use it for malicious intents. He also expressed his hope that they could also become good friends in the future during the time when they are together. However, he smiled lightly in response to his politeness. "Then, Hikari-san, please just call me Kazuo. I'm not too stressed with formality and all, but I'm fine with anything. I'll let you know if I need anything."

As Hikari stepped away back to do whatever he was doing, Kazuo made his way into his new room with his huge suitcase and backpack. It was a little smaller than his room back in Sapporo, but still enough for him to store everything he needed. There wasn't any bed, but a small cabinet that stores futon. So I'm sleeping on futons from now on, huh? Well, I've never been picky. He sheepishly thought then shrugged as he started to arrange all his stuffs.

After about 15 minutes arranging his belongings into their new place, Kazuo swept a gaze over the whole room. He had tried to make it as similar with his former room as possible, and it turned out to be quite good. Of course, he couldn't possibly bring everything from home here, like his bookshelf and a couple of NSFW products. It was pity though. But at least he still managed to bring his collection of "materials" along, and lucky for him that there's a safe place for him to keep them hidden. It's not like that he was shy or anything, but they weren't something that should be left lying around.

"Yosh. That should do it." Kazuo said to himself as he brushed his hand. Grabbing some casual clothes, Kazuo made his way to the bathroom. A hot, steamy shower is always a good remedy for all fatigues. After 10 minutes immersing himself under the shower and washing every pinch off his body, Kazuo dried his hair and body off with a towel. Usually he would just dried his hair and stayed half-naked until his torso dried. But it wouldn't be very polite now to do that in front of someone he's just met, so he got fully dressed and walked out. It's also a habit of him to wear some cologne when he's finished taking a shower too so he emits a light, musky fragrance.

Looking at the clock, Kazuo notices that it was almost time for lunch. Walking to the kitchen, he sees that there are all sorts of ingredients in the medium-sized refrigerator. How convenient. Quietly approaching Hikari, he asked, "Anou, Hikari-san. Do you want to have anything for lunch?"

Nakajima-san was very polite. He seemed surprised that I asked him to call my by my first name, but offered the same in return, and was forward in saying that he doesn't mind informality. So far he has shown no obvious signs of caring about my supposed 'family superiority' as most others do, he must not mind. That's a huge relief. I don't think I'd be able to handle another person who simply writes me off as a snob because of my family name. XX
Hikari gently pulled the now-full page from his typewriter and placed it neatly atop the others, straightening the pile and adding a new sheet of paper to the machine before once again starting to type, this time about the state of the weather outside the dining room window. The past few days had been full of rain, which was Hikari's favorite kind of weather, although he was grateful that his many houseplants would be getting a decent amount of sunlight. Finishing the paragraphs he was writing, Hikari stood gracefully, moving to the kitchen and filling his watering can with water from the sink. XX
As he went about the task of watering all the plants scattered about, Hikari watched from the corner of his eye as Kazuo moved from his bedroom to the bathroom, and absently let his thoughts wander as the sounds of the shower reached his ears. He facepalmed with a groan when he realized just where his thoughts had ended up. Fantasizing about a man I've just met is not something I'd like to add to the list of things I've accomplished today... Turning his attention back to the plants, Hikari pushed the unorthodox thoughts of Kazuo showering into the back of his head, focusing instead on the letter he'd received from his sister the day before. Apparently, she was currently staying in New York City with her long-time boyfriend, Michael. XXXX
Three years prior, Hikari had received a call from Akari in the dead of night, and spent nearly two hours listening to her talk about the young man she'd met after arriving in California. Michael Edmonds was her guide, or so she said, and according to her he was the 'most attractive, kind, and respectable man she'd ever met, except for Hikari himself '. In her letter a month later, Akari proceeded to gush about how he'd asked her out in the most cliche manner and the fact that they'd already been on several dates. Hikari heard about each one in great detail, and although he'd never even spoken to Michael over the phone, he knew just about everything about him that his sister did. That was one thing he loved about her, she was always so honest. XX
By the time Kazuo came out of the shower, Hikari had finished watering his plants and was back at his typewriter, recording his roommate's choice of clothing and the way he walked through the apartment, not loud at all but not meticulously silent either. I wonder how offended people would be if they knew I record everything I see them do when they're around me. Though I doubt I'll stop doing it, regardless of whether they're offended or not. Hikari felt himself smirk slightly at the thought. Noticing Kazuo approach, Hikari turned to look up at him with an expression of curiosity. ""Anou, Hikari-san. Do you want to have anything for lunch?" Hikari smiled softly. "Actually, I have yet to eat anything since early this morning, so if you don't mind cooking for two, I would love to join you~" Standing up, Hikari gathered his typewriter and papers and moved them back to his bedroom. XX
When he returned, he offered to help, and moved about the kitchen gathering place settings. The kitchen wasn't too cramped, even with both of them moving about in the space, which he was sure they were both grateful for. As they ate, Hikari was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, and made sure to say so. The two chatted lightly about school during the meal. Apparently, they shared the same English Language class, although Kazuo was taking it as one of his majors while Hikari was taking the class simply as a means of being able to communicate better with foreigners and - eventually - Akari's boyfriend and other friends from America. Hikari spoke a little bit about her, but mostly just about how she was studying abroad. XX
Over the course of the conversation, Hikari learned about Kazuo's passion for swimming, as well as the fact that he didn't like spicy foods. Hikari teased him about that, albeit playfully. After they'd both finished eating, Hikari insisted on washing the dishes himself since Kazuo had cooked the meal, and the conversation continued from across the room. Several different things were discussed, though the topic mostly remained on school and academics. "If it isn't too intrusive, may I ask why you decided to attend Tokyo University? I myself came here because I wanted to be placed on the same level as other people, surprisingly enough. Most of my relatives disagreed with my choice, but my parents supported me, so it isn't all that bad." XX

As a natural reaction that Kazuo has always had when he's around some new guys he's just met, his heart skips a little when he saw Hikari smiling lightly to him, stating that he would be glad to join him for lunch. Well, he had to admitted that his new roommate fits his type perfectly - small, a little bit fragile and feminine, as if waiting to be protected from all chaos of the world. However, it doesn't seem to be a very appropriate thought for someone whom you just got to know. Slightly shaking his head, he threw all of the thoughts out of his mind.

"Well, let's go then. I'm already hungry." Kazuo said with yet another gentle smile as both of them made their way to the kitchen. Kazuo took out some ingredients from the refrigerator, asked jokingly whether Hikari had a habit of filling his refrigerator with a whole lot of food like this. He proceeded to make some omelette, donkatsu and stir-fried vegetable with beef. It was not really a surprise that all the stuffs that he used to make lunch are quite luxurious, such as Kobe beef.

It wasn't Kazuo's first time cooking for someone else rather than Takumi and his family. But he's a little worried whether his cooking suits the taste of someone who had probably been eating good food all his life. Though based on Hikari's appearance, he was almost certain that the guy wasn't someone who would fancy eating too much. However, he was glad that he enjoyed his food. As they eat away their lunch, they chatted with each other about some trivial matters.

Hikari offered to wash the dish as Kazuo had already made the food. Then, they continued to chat, though mostly about school and other stuff, nothing too intrusive. He found out that Hikari is a real plant lover, as he can guessed from the amount of plants he place around the apartment. He also a big fan of photography, though he isn't too fond with sports like him. It also turns out that Hikari also takes English class, but unlike Kazuo, it wasn't his major.

When he was asked about the reason why he decided to study at Toky Uni, he just shrugged, "It's not something intrusive, really. I just wanted to go study somewhere else since I've pretty much stuck in Sapporo for most of my life. It's not like my hometown was bad, but I felt that there's going to be a lot more chances for me here in Tokyo. Competing for a spot at Tokyo Uni was quite difficult though, but I've managed in the end."

Kazuo then stood up from where he was sitting, "Well, I'm getting some rest. It's been a long trip coming here. Please feel free to call if you need anything." He said to Hikari and made his way to his room.

Flopped himself down on the futon, he let out a quiet sigh. It seemed that he'd managed to find just the perfect roommate. He texted with Takumi through his phone to exchange how they are doing with their new living place, before taking a nap. He should go and find a part-time job later in the afternoon. And hopefully there's a swimming pool nearby.

"It's not something intrusive, really. I just wanted to go study somewhere else since I've pretty much stuck in Sapporo for most of my life. It's not like my hometown was bad, but I felt that there's going to be a lot more chances for me here in Tokyo. Competing for a spot at Tokyo University was quite difficult though, but I've managed in the end." Hikari's gaze lingered on Kazuo for a moment, silently admiring the way he spoke and the words the man used. He would definitely have to remember that phrase and type it out on paper. "Well, I'm getting some rest. It's been a long trip coming here. Please feel free to call if you need anything." Hikari nodded. "Of course~" Moving to his own bedroom, Hikari sat down at his typewriter with a smile. XX
He spent the next half hour writing out Kazuo's words, an exact copy, all the way down to which characters were used. He also wrote out the different things he'd learned during their lunch conversation. Nakajima-san appears to have a strong passion for competitive swimming, a sport that surely fits well with his body build. He has also explained to me his distaste for spicy foods, and I must say, its somewhat comical. I may have teased him a bit. Continuing to add more to the page, he finally stopped when he ran out of room, carefully changing out the paper with a new one. Standing, Hikari moved across the room to where his camera sat next to his futon, and picked up the contraption with a smile. Holding the camera was a familiar feeling. XX
Hikari stepped quietly out of his bedroom, camera in hand, and looked about the room for something of interest. He snapped a photograph of his white orchid, which was just starting to bloom again. He also captured to sky from outside the window, and after a couple more photographs of his houseplants, Hikari's eyes trailed to Kazuo's bedroom door. It had been left slightly ajar and it only took seconds for his curiosity to draw him closer. I'm positive that watching someone while they sleep is both impolite and a breach of privacy, but I suppose I could go against my better judgement, if only just for a moment or so. Silently opening the door just enough to peek in, Hikari was met with the sleeping face of his very beautiful roommate. XX
Kazuo was fast asleep, looking very peaceful in his tired slumber, and Hikari felt himself smirk as he noticed the bits of drool pooling on the man's pillow. How cute. Raising his camera to eye level, Hikari zoomed in on Kazuo's face and snapped a photograph before silently closing the door and returning to his own bedroom, leaving no trace that he was ever there at all. Well, that was certainly one of the weirder things I've done. Carefully clipping the Polaroid photo onto the string that hung across his ceiling, Hikari placed it among the many others he'd collected, and once again sat down at his typewriter, though only for a moment. Nakajima-san drools in his sleep. I wonder if he knows. Smiling, Hikari leaned his head in his hand. XXXX
Several hours passed before Kazuo woke up again, and Hikari passed the time by writing out a reply letter to his sister. Akari had demanded that he take the time to describe everything about his roommate when he finally arrived, and Hikari had made sure to wait on writing his reply so that he could tell Akari all about his new companion. He wrote out everything he could say with confidence - what Kazuo looked like, in great detail. How he didn't like spicy foods, which Akari would surely disagree with. About how he was a swimmer, majored in English Language, and even about how he drooled when he slept. Hikari knew his sister would demand that he explain how he'd figured that one out, but he decided to leave it for another letter. XX
Nee-chan, if its alright to ask, do you know if Michael-san intends to propose to you? The two of you have been in a relationship for almost four years, so I'm sure it wouldn't be unexpected after so much time. I would truly like to meet him. Perhaps you should bring him with you when you return home for a visit? Hikari wrote, wondering how his sister would react to a proposal. Knowing nee-san, she would probably act absolutely hysterical before finally accepting. She really can be a bit over-the-top sometimes... He smiled to himself at the thought of his sister getting married. XX
Looking toward the clock, Hikari noticed that it was nearly six in the evening, and decided it would be fit to start cooking dinner. Kazuo appeared to be asleep still, so he got to work cooking, deciding to make sweet curry simply to appease his new friend's tastes. Hikari flipped on the radio, switching through the channels 'till he found the classical music station, and hummed along to songs he recognized as he cooked. While he certainly wasn't as skilled a cook as his roommate was, he wasn't at all bad either, having cooked for himself for a year. Hopefully Nakajima-san will be satisfied with it. XX

Kazuo took about a few hours of napping. While he was sleeping, he felt rather peaceful. Well, how couldn't he? Everything has turned out to be quite smooth and favorable for him up until now. His living quarter is comfortable and his classmate is also someone he can definitely get along with. He should write for his father, Daisuke, soon. Later on, Kazuo slowly opened his eyes and sat up on his futon. "What time is it...?" He sleepily asked himself as he checked his phone and rubbed his eyes.

He saw that it was already 4:00PM, along with a text message from Takumi, who told him to come to his room whenever he's ready. Ah, that's right. He thought to himself as he stood up. He had promised his best friend to go around Tokyo for some sightseeing, as well as buying some stuffs and looking for a part-time job this afternoon. Putting on his sport jacket, Kazuo walked out of his room.

It seemed that Hikari was in his room doing his own business, as Kazuo didn't see him sitting at the table in the living room like earlier. He doesn't want to disturb his roommate, so instead he left a note on the table to inform that he would be going out for some time with his best friend. Though he secretly wonders what Hikari usually do to keep himself entertained everyday, but he's not too much of a nosy person. From what he knows, Hikari has been here longer than he is, so there's more thing he knows about Tokyo than Kazuo.

Quietly walked out of the door, Kazuo made his way to Takumi's apartment. It was quite convenient that they live on the same floor. From the text message that his best friend sent him earlier, it seemed that his roommate was also a cool guy himself. Well, Takumi has always been even friendlier than Kazuo himself, so it's no surprise that he could make friends easily. And the fact that he hasn't running over for him only showed that he and his new roommate also got along well as well.

Pressing the doorbell, Kazuo was a little taken aback when the door swung opened and Takumi jumped at him while wrapping his hands around him, "Kazu-chan, I missed you so so much ~ ~" He said with a swooning tone.

"Stop acting as if we've been separated for a hundred years already. If you miss me that much, why won't you go and find me by yourself, huh?" Kazuo sighed as he asked. His best friend sure can be clingy whenever and wherever possible. Ever since Kazuo confided that he was gay, Takumi has taken up a new hobby, which is teasing him by sexually harassing him. Anyone knows that they are just best friends didn't mind, but for strangers, they just look like a couple.

"Oh, so this is your "beloved Kazu-chan", Takumi-kun?" A good-looking boy with long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail approached them, "You two are really close, huh?"

"Of course we are, Miki-kun." Takumi grinned before turned to look at Kazuo with a flirtatious gaze, while moving his hand into Kazuo's shirt, caressing his abdomen, "We're especially close, especially this part. Am I right, Ka-zu-chan?"

Sighing, Kazuo just coldly swept his best friend away and turned his attention to Takumi's roommate instead, "I'm sorry, this is how he usually is. So, you must be Miki-san. I'm Kazuo. Taku texted me earlier and tell me about you. He's really troublesome so I hope you can put up with his antics while you're staying with him."

"It's fine, it's fine." Miki brushed it off with a grin, "I suppose you two have some sightseeing to do, right? I'm in a middle of something right now so I couldn't come with you guys, but I hope you can enjoy Tokyo as much as I do. Well, have fun, Takumi-kun. And nice to meet you, Kazuo-san."

"Yeah, see ya later ~" Takumi said before closing the door and turned to Kazuo, "Shall we go then? Miki-kun have told me about a place where we can work part-time so let's head there first."

And so, Kazuo and Takumi took the elevator down to the ground floor. They are currently in Bunkyou ward and Tokyo University is just about 10 minutes walk to the west. Takumi took Kazuo to a café shop in Mejirodai neighbourhood nearby. Miki said that they are currently looking for a part-time barista and a waiter who also works as a security guard. There, they met up with the shop's owner. Luckily, they seemed to be just right the type she was looking for, so she will reserve the spots for them. Next time they just have to brought in their CVs and their schedules and they will be accepted.

With one thing off their minds, both of them go for a sightsee around the city. They stopped by all places and eat all sorts of food. It's been a while since they could have a time of their lives like this. When they returned, it's already 7:30PM. They bid goodbye as they made their ways back to their apartments.

Upon entering, Kazuo said, "I'm back." He took off his shoes and locked the door behind him. However, he didn't hear any reply. And the first thing he saw when he stepped into the kitchen was Hikari sleeping while sitting in the table. Next to him, inside a cover, there was some food that Hikari had made. Chuckling, Kazuo nudged his roommate, "Hey, Hikari-san. You're going to catch a cold if you sleep out here. Haven't you seen the note I left?"

It wasn't until Hikari had finished cooking that he noticed the note Kazuo had left, finding it as he was setting the table. He couldn't help but chuckle to himself upon reading it. I'm a bit dense today, aren't I? Setting the note back onto the table, Hikari placed his roommate's portion into the refrigerator and went about eating his own meal, switching the radio channel so that he could listen to the evening news. Apparently the only thing they had to talk about was a traffic accident in Shinjuku and a famous maid cafe that had suddenly gone out of business. Nothing that managed to peak his curiosity. XXX
After he had finished eating, Hikari switched the radio back to the classical station as he washed the dishes, not caring for whatever else the news had to report. Every once in a while there would be an intriguing story or happenstance that he could write about, just not on this particular day. Maybe nee-san will send me some interesting newspaper articles from America... Drying his hands off and putting away the now-clean dishes, Hikari got his camera from its place in his bedroom and retrieved Kazuo's plate from the fridge, setting it on the table so he could photograph it. Once he was completely satisfied with the pictures he'd taken, Hikari carefully packed the rice and curry into a plastic container and returned it to the refrigerator. XXX
Hikari sat back down at the table and listened to the piano medley playing on the radio as he inspected the Polaroid photos in front of him. Hikari didn't always use his Polaroid camera, as he had a much nicer digital camera for his school projects and large pictures, but there was something about having little pieces of memory that he really enjoyed. There were hundreds of Polaroids strung across the ceiling in his bedroom, yet not a single one included a human being. Plants, scenery, buildings, animals, yes. But people? No. I wonder if Nakajima-san would mind me taking a few photographs of him... XX
Well, technically I already have taken a photograph of him, albeit without his knowledge. Smirking to himself, Hikari leaned his body on the table and allowed himself to get lost in the music, which was now a calm but fast-paced violin solo. It wasn't long before he was fast asleep, photographs lying all across the table and the container of curry left forgotten next to them. He didn't move so much as a centimeter as he slept, with only the steady sound of his breathing to indicate he was even alive still. He did, however, start to stir when Kazuo gently nudged him out of his peaceful slumber. XXX
"Hm?" Sitting up, Hikari blinked a few times before meeting Kazuo's haze, smiling gently to his roommate. "Ah, welcome back. And yes, I did find your note, albeit after I had finished cooking. Please don't feel guilty though, curry won't go bad overnight~ Did you enjoy your trip around Tokyo?" XX
Hikari listened with great interest as Kazuo spoke about the places they visited. Hikari himself knew quite a bit about the area, not just from living in Tokyo for a year, but since he was a journalist as well. He spoke a lot about the different venues he had written newspaper articles for, most of them restaurants and all of them having gotten positive feedback from readers. Hikari also took the time to explain a bit about the Polaroid photographs that were scattered about. In turn, Hikari learned a few things about Kazuo's close friend, Mitsuru Takumi. It was a pleasant conversation, to say the least. XX
"You know, its been quite a while since I was last able to have such a pleasant conversation with someone other than my parents or sister. Most of the students at Tokyo Uni. don't like me, and I'm usually avoided by them, so its an appreciated change, having someone like you to talk to, Kazuo-san." XXXX

As Hikari woke up from his sleep, he greeted Kazuo and confirmed that he did see his note. It seemed that he had also made some curry, which was kept under a plastic cover. "Sorry that I didn't just say it directly with you. I thought you were busy when I left, so I figure that I shouldn't disturb you." He said with a smile as he scratched the back of his head, "And yeah, I've managed to find a part-time job. Shouldn't rely too much on your folks, don't you think? It's been a while since I come here so many things have definitely changed, but it was enjoyable."

After putting the curry with rice into the microwave to heated it up, Kazuo ate it while conversing with Hikari, mostly about other trivial stuffs and where they left off in the morning. The curry was delicious, and he didn't forget to give his roommate a praise while they were talking. Hikari had also told him a little bit about his family, and his sister who is now studying in America. He seemed to received their letters once in a while. And Kazuo had also intended to ask about the Polaroids around the apartment, though Hikari had explained it to him before he raise the question.

When he'd finished eating, he washed some dishes that are still left behind in the sink. Hikari suddenly stated that it's been a while since the last time he got to engage in a pleasant conversation like this with Kazuo. He slightly raised his eyebrow when he addressed him by his given name, not family name like earlier. Kazuo then grinned, "Not everyone would cast aside the looks outside to look into the person deep inside of someone else. I think you are really a nice person, Hikari-san. I believe that it's only a matter of time before everyone knows that too."

And so, they chatted for a while later until it had gotten quite late. "Oyasuminasai, Hikari-san. See you tomorrow." Kazuo said to Hikari and closed the door to his room. He prepared a couple of stuffs and put them all into his school bag, as well as prepared some comfortable clothes to wear tomorrow. He had to attended an entrance speech for all the freshmen who had just enrolled, which included him and Takumi, before receiving his schedules and start his first lectures. So far everything had been quite smooth for him.

Dawn was fast approaching and the first day studying in Tokyo had just begun for Kazuo. He had always been an early-riser, so it's not very surprised that he had gotten up quite early to do some morning exercise. It would be awesome if there's a swim club in Tokyo Uni. When he returned home after his jog to a nearby park and some working-out, he saw that Hikari had also gotten up, "Ohayo, Hikari-san. Did you sleep well? I didn't think that you also woke up this early."

"Not everyone would cast aside the looks outside to look into the person deep inside of someone else. I think you are really a nice person, Hikari-san. I believe that it's only a matter of time before everyone knows that too." Hikari smiled appreciatively. "Well, I hope what you say is right, Kazuo-san." XX
Their conversation continued for a while, and by the time they decided to go to bed, it was already ten at night. "Oyasuminasai, Hikari-san. See you tomorrow." "Oyasumi." Carefully gathering his camera and photographs, Hikari turned off the lights in the apartment and headed to his room, quietly sliding the door shut behind him. I can definitely say that I enjoy his company. Smiling to himself, Hikari pulled a handful of paper clips from a box on his desk and hung his new photographs next to the others. He was starting to run out of room. I should send a few to nee-san along with the letter. XXX
Changing into a t-shirt and shorts, Hikari flopped over onto his futon and pulled his cell phone from where it was shoved beneath the covers, boredly checking the e-mails he'd received from his Journalism teacher concerning tomorrow's class. Apparently the class would be starting half an hour later than usual to do reasons Hikari didn't particular care about. Making sure his alarm was set and setting his cell on the floor next to him, Hikari let out a sigh, burrowing further under the covers and going over the day's happenings in his head. It had been a pleasant day, that was for sure. I wonder what kind of people Nakajima-san has as friends. He seems like the kind of person who would refuse to associate with those who aren't kind to others. XXXX
Hikari slept well and was awake early in the morning, as per usual, and he stepped out of his bedroom just in time to watch the front door close quietly behind Kazuo as he left. Surely he doesn't have classes this early in the morning? Peeking through his roommate's open bedroom door, Hikari caught sight of the man's school bag and smirked to himself. Well, he did say that he likes to work out, so he probably just went running. Light grey-colored clouds were scattered across the sky outside, and Hikari smiled at the prospect of it raining later in the day, as rain was his favorite type of weather. He returned to his bedroom and got dressed, pulling on a dress shirt and tie, as well as a dark emerald sweater and the white scarf Akari had knit for him. XX
Hikari decided to pass the time until Kazuo's return by typing out their conversation from dinner the previous evening, glad he was able to remember most of what had been said. He ended up having to replace the ink cartridge in his typewriter after a while, since he hadn't done so in about a month, and Kazuo got back just as he was finishing the task. "Ohayo, Hikari-san. Did you sleep well? I didn't think that you also woke up this early." Standing with care so as not to smear his ink-covered hands on any of the furniture, Hikari smiled to his roommate and headed toward the kitchen sink. "Ohayo, Kazuo-san. And yes, I slept very well, thank you. As for waking up early, I usually spend my mornings in the school library studying before class." XX
Once his hands were clear of typewriter ink, Hikari offered to make breakfast for the two of them, and went about cooking omelets while Kazuo showered and got dressed. The meal passed with more idle conversation, mostly about different school policies and what their English Language teacher was like. Hikari had decided to skip his usual study session in favor of chatting with Kazuo, and was the first to point out when it was time to leave. "Since we share the first class of the day, would you like to walk together? It might also be helpful to keep you from getting lost on your way." XX

After coming back from his work-out exercises, Kazuo greeted Hikari as he encountered him while he was going for a shower. His classmates had also offered to make breakfast for him, which was omelettes. He washed his body off the sweats and got changed into the attires that he had prepared yesterday. As he stepped out and made his way to the kitchen, he could smell the beautiful fragrance from Hikari's dish. "You're actually quite good with cooking yourself, Hikari-san." Kazuo complimented.

As they ate away their breakfast together, they had quite a pleasant conversation going on. When it was time for them to leave for school, Hikari offered that they walk to school together, since they shared the same class. Kazuo nodded in agreement, "Yeah, I'm good with it. Taku and I stopped by Tokyo Uni yesterday so I kind of knowing the way there, but it's more fun going to school together. Let's go then, I think Taku is waiting."

So, they packed up their stuffs and walked out of their apartment, with Kazuo locking the door. He then led Hikari to Takumi's apartment. Takumi was standing in front of the door and waved for them, before turning his head back inside and shouted Miki to be faster, because they were leaving anytime soon. Kazuo then introduced Takumi and Hikari with each other, in which Takumi shook hands with him in a friendly way with a bright smile, even going all the way to call him Hika-kun, which only shows how informal he is.

"Wait for me a minute, I'm comi-" Miki rushed his way through the genkan, though he suddenly come to a halt when he saw Hikari standing with the other two. As soon as the two of them saw each other, they engaged in a rather awkward staring contest. Though it was visible to see that Miki was uncomfortable in the presence of Hikari. They didn't say anything with each other, but the tension between them is high enough to cause Kazuo and Takumi to feel suffocating a little.

"Anou... you two know each other?" Takumi raised the the question to break the silence. Miki, however, didn't reply as he clearly forced a smile, "I just remember that I have some business to take care so I need to head to school first. Please just go without me, okay? See you guys later at school." He said before walking passed them, shooting Hikari a rather ambiguous glance on the way.

"Hikari-san, are you okay?" Kazuo asked with concern as he saw Hikari's expression. It seemed that he didn't want to tell them, so Kazuo just smile, "I suppose you didn't want to tell us, but that's okay, anyone gotta have some secrets. Now shall we go? Me and Takumi will be late for the entrance speech if we don't hurry." With that said, the three of them headed for Tokyo University.

Hikari slung his messenger bag securely over his shoulders and wrapped his scarf loosely around his neck, letting out a sigh as he slipped on a pair of loafers and followed Kazuo out the door. The breeze was cool and gentle, and the sounds of traffic carried through the air. Hikari stepped in line with Kazuo as they stopped in front of the only other apartment on the floor, where a tall blond male was waiting. He was introduced as Takumi Mitsuru, and Hikari smiled to him politely as they shook hands. "Its nice to meet you too, Takumi-san." He looked decently surprised at being addressed as Hika-kun, but made no moved to correct Takumi, and instead folded his hands in front of him as he watched Kazuo interact with his childhood friend. XX
A new voice sounded from inside Takumi's apartment, and Hikari's smile fell as he caught sight of the male standing before him, his breath catching as their eyes met. Miki stopped in his tracks when he saw Hikari, and they stood like that for a solid minute, staring at each other without saying a word. The two hadn't seen each other in nearly five years, not since Miki had been forced to transfer out of their Junior High school. It had been Hikari's fault, really, as the only reason Miki had been bullied was because of their relationship. He had been Hikari's friend - his only friend - and they had dated for nearly half a year. However, meeting after three years of zero contact was more than awkward, and neither of them had any idea what to say. XX
"Anou...you two know each other?" Hikari jolted slightly, and took a few steps backward, averting his gaze to the stone floor below them as Takumi spoke. Hikari didn't notice Miki's fake smile, and didn't pay attention to his excuse, though he did watch the blond disappear down the stairwell. He was a bit saddened by how his former lover had handled their meeting, but supposed it made sense, considering how they were separated. I don't really know what else I could have expected to happen. "Hikari-san, are you okay?" Sighing, Hikari turned to look up at Kazuo with a half-smile, shaking his head lightly to show that no, he really wasn't okay. However, he had no intention of explaining the circumstances, and his companions understood. XXX
The elevator trip was, for the most part, uneventful, and Hikari was distracted by thoughts of the encounter from five minutes before. He did listen to bits and pieces of Kazuo and Takumi's conversation, however, and after a while gave up on his thoughts and started to join in on the chatter. As they walked onto the campus, it wasn't long before nearly everyone's eyes were on the three of them - or, more specifically, on the two tall males who were chatting with the famous Osawa Hikari as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Hikari ignored the glares and blank stares that were directed at him, and hardly reacted at all to the tense atmosphere surrounding them. He was used to it. I only hope this doesn't turn Nakajima-san away from me. XX
As promised, Hikari showed Kazuo and Takumi around campus, pointing out different shortcuts through the school and which routes to take in order to minimize the time it took to get to and from each of their classes. He frowned slightly as a few of his classmates grumbled about how he was 'showing off', but his smile returned a moment later, and the three moved on. Hikari bid his two friends goodbye as they reached the auditorium, and headed off toward the library, not particularly wanting to watch the opening ceremony for the second year in a row. He took a seat in the back of the room, hidden from view by several tall bookshelves, and went over his English vocabulary notes as he waited for the entrance ceremony to be over. XX
About an hour later, the intercom crackled to life and announced that morning lectures would be resuming shortly, as the entrance ceremony had come to an end and released all the teachers from what was surely the most boring collection of speeches one could possibly put together. Hikari packed up his things and left the library, heading to the English lecture hall and silently ignoring the people who stopped to stare hatefully at him as he passed. No one spoke to him, thankfully, and he made it to the lecture hall virtually untouched. He took his usual seat in the back row and pulled out his notes, waving Kazuo over to him when he noticed his friend enter. Their English teacher came in moments later, and the lesson began, starting the long day. XX

As they took the elevator down to the ground floor, they still kept the conversation going. Though it seemed that they were still a bit surprised of what has just happened between Hikari and Miki. Though none of them did say anything, it was quite clear to Kazuo and Takumi that there is definitely something between them. Even they aren't usually very nosy, this really has sparks up their interest. However, if this was too intrusive, then they wouldn't poke their noses in either. Perhaps they could find out about it later.

After about 15 minutes walking, the three of them made it to Tokyo University. While entering the campus, somehow the attentions were all turned to Kazuo and Takumi, who were conversing with Osawa. Of course, both of them were rather taken aback by how everyone reacted to them. And this has confirmed what Hikari said yesterday about him not getting on well with most students at school. I wonder what could have possibly cause them to showed so much opposition at him like that. He quietly thought. But neither of them are who would abandon their friends, so they didn't care much.

Hikari showed Kazuo and Takumi the paths around the university and some important places they needed. Of course, since the interior of the school is so big, there isn't enough time to explore. So, Kazuo and Takumi head to the auditorium, where the entrance ceremony was held, while Hikari excused himself to go to the library for self-study. Of course, solemn ceremonies were never their cup of tea, so it was lucky of them to accompany each other.

Picking a rather secluded spot behind, they sat down at the empty seats. Almost half of the ceremony is just boring speeches, Kazuo actually lost count of how many times he had yawned for having to sit for too long like this. Things did spice up a little bit when it comes to the performances section. They really seemed to put a lot of efforts though, as everyone around cheered enthusiastically. Though what was taking them aback was Miki, who also have a speech to make.

He talked and eloquent in a very confident and persuasive manner, which is why no one can cast their gaze away from him. A lot of girls seemed to be fawning over him too. "And he didn't tell me about this yesterday. How mean." Takumi pouted as they listened to the speech together. After the speech, the applause was very loud, even louder than all the performances earlier combined.

After the ceremony, Kazuo and Takumi parted as they headed for their specific lecture halls. When Kazuo arrived, he sat next to Hikari, which earned him some surprised stares from other students. But the lecturer came in soon enough and his first lecture begin, thus begin his studying days in college.

Hikari had always been someone who took excessive amounts of notes, and despite the fact that there was hardly much of a lesson at all amidst the professor's introductions and the completely unnecessary explanation of the purpose of the class, he managed to get down a full three pages of notes. Hikari recorded all of his classmate's names - each one accompanied by a tiny rough sketch of said person - so that he would know how to address them should he ever have to actually talk to anyone. He wrote down the professor's syllabus, class rules, and anything else he deemed somewhat important. It was just to pass the time, really, as he'd already gained practically the same information during his previous semester of being in the class. XX
After the initial introductions were finished, there was still a half hour left of the lecture period. The professor told those who were returning students to review their English vocabulary, and if they were new to the class, to find someone who was a returning student and to work with them. As it turned out, there were only about five students who hadn't taken the class during the previous semester, Kazuo included. Hikari pulled out his English vocabulary notes and gently scooted his chair closer to his neighbor's. "Kazuo-san, I have about twelve pages of vocabulary words with me at the moment, if you want to share. I could help you go through them, if you'd like." Hikari passed the stapled-together stack of pages to Kazuo with a grin. XX
They spent the rest of the lecture period chatting about the differences between different words and going over pronunciations, which tended to be the hardest part when it came to learning any language, though it was especially tricky with English. Hikari had been studying for several years already, and was more than willing to help his new friend. However, the class came to an end all too quickly, their professor dismissing them with a wave of her hand. Hikari carefully packed his notes away in his bag and stood, straightening his coat out of pure habit. "Our classes are on opposite sides of the campus, so I'm afraid I won't be able to accompany you, though perhaps we'll meet again during lunch period. Have a good afternoon, Kazuo-san~" XX
Ignoring the confused and loath-full stares that followed him as he left, Hikari pulled an old fashioned Walkman out of his bag and nestled a pair of headphones over his ears, pressing play and sighing quietly as a gentle symphony replaced the annoying chatter that filled the halls. He'd never been too good with modern electronics, such as iPods and computers, and he very much preferred antiques such as his beloved typewriter. It had taken a lot of searching to find one that worked well, and the same went for his Walkman, although it had originally been a present from Akari's first year in America. She had said in her letter that it had taken her a whole three months to find one that wasn't broken. It was one of his favorite gifts from her. XX
Hikari turned off his music and slipped the Walkman back into his bag as he stepped into his Photography class, taking a seat next to the window in the back of the room and pulling out the manila envelope that held his class pictures. As usual, all of them depicted nature in some form, though most were of butterflies from an insect observatory he'd visited the week before. Their current project was on insects, and he'd also written an article on the observatory, which had been rather popular. It wasn't long before his professor entered the room, and Hikari neatly sorted his photographs as the man inquired about everyone's projects. Hikari waited for everyone else to turn theirs in before he stepped forward and added his own project to the pile. XX
For the next hour, Hikari took dutiful notes as his professor eagerly presented everyone's projects, praising them all and pointing out where they could have done better. He was a good teacher, for the most part, and was by far Hikari's favorite out of the three he had. He is a bit an oddball, though. He thought, smirking to himself. When it came time for Hikari's own project to be put on display, the entire class marveled at his photographs, and he was glad his professor chose to present the projects without announcing their owners. If anyone had known the pictures were his, they likely would have dismissed their admiration simply because they didn't like him. It would be nice if people would stop getting hung up on rumors and stereotypes... XXX
It was announced that their next project would be focusing on the human body, and Hikari groaned inwardly. He hated taking pictures of people, and not just because he didn't know anyone who would let him photograph them - though that was a big reason - but because nature was simple, refined, and often much more picturesque than people were. However, he knew he wasn't going to be able to get out of it, as his professor shot him a knowing look as the class filed out of the room. Well, I suppose I should at least try to have fun with this project. Pulling his camera out of its carrying case and looping the strap around his neck, Hikari pulled it to his eye and looked around at the crowd, searching for something that caught his fancy. Nothing... XX
Hikari sighed and let his camera hang loosely around his neck as he headed towards the library. His next class wasn't for another four hours, so he had plenty of time to study and read before he had to head to Journalism. As expected, the library was quiet, and almost void of people - just the way he liked it. The librarian, an elderly woman whom he usually helped shelve books, greeted him with a wide smile as he entered. Hikari smiled back and lifted a hand to wave to her as he passed. Sitting down at his usual table, Hikari gently set his camera down on top of it and pulled out his Walkman, reveling in the peaceful music as he contemplated how to go about completing his photography project. He only had one idea of who to photograph. XX

The English lecture seemed to have passed in quiet, as there isn't much of a fuss going on. Of course, there were some stares from the other students here and there, but it seemed that most were too concentrated in what the professor was saying to pay attention to Kazuo and Hikari. At first, he had thought that it wouldn't be as bad as what Hikari had said about him being alienated by other at school, but no, it was worse than Kazuo thought. Well, at least I'm here. Kazuo sheepishly thought. He had never been the one to abandon his friend just because of social status or anything like that.

After all necessary instructions and lecturing about the purpose of the class is done, Hikari offered Kazuo to share their work together, in which he nodded, "Sure, I'd love to. I'm suppose there's still a lot that I need to take note since I've just arrived, but I hope you can help me." He tiled his head and said with a grin and received the stack of paper that Hikari passed to him.

So, for the rest of the lecture, they went through the words together and practice pronouncing them with each other. As expected from someone whose mother is an English teacher, Kazuo was good at it. Studying English had always been a huge pain with Japanese, because they are affected too much from the borrowed words written in katakana. But his mother had taught her children well, so he was quite grateful for her.

The lesson soon came to an end as Hikari remarked that his study hall is on the opposite of the university's building so he can't accompany him to his hall. "It's okay. I can find my way there. It's not like I can get lost since it was only the first day, right? See you later then, Hikari-san." And with that said, they parted ways into opposite directions. Kazuo made his way to the social study hall, where his next lesson will be held. On his way, it seemed that he had gained quite some attention, some by his looks, some by the fact that he talked so casually with Hikari earlier, but he couldn't care less.

As he stepped into the lecture hall, he sat at an empty seat on the first front row. Some other students who sat around him spark up a conversation with him and of course, he joined in and introduce himself. That's how he got to know more about people in new places. It's going to take him some time to remember everyone's names though. But in their eyes, Kazuo seemed to be quite standout, due to his looks.

Moments later, the lecturer stepped in and all conversations died out. He seemed to put off a rather serious expression at first, but his introduction to the new students was so funny that the whole hall laughed out loud. The professor's name is Kuzuki Okamoto, and from what his classmates tell him, he was one of the best lecturers in the University. Indeed, the way he lectures was quirky and he had a very interesting view of the society.

Hours passed and it was time for lunch break. His first major lesson was fun, to say the least. And, the first thing Kazuo thought about when the bell rang is to find a club to join. He saw a recruiting poster of the swimming club on the notice board earlier that morning, so he figured that he should head to the swimming pool of the university. He didn't know if it was going to be any different than when he's still in high school, but he was quite excited for it.

When lunch break came, Hikari packed up his things and left the library, heading toward the courtyard. The cafeteria was often too crowded for him to feel comfortable, and he made his own lunches anyway, so he usually ate either outside or in the library. Today's weather was nice, so the courtyard would be a nice place to eat. So long the benches aren't wet, at least. Hikari stopped for a moment as he passed a group of club posters, colorful and almost pleading for someone to join. He'd never really liked being in clubs, even in Junior and Senior High, when they were a required part of his schedule, so nothing really took his fancy. A poster for the swimming club did catch his interest, however. I wonder if Nakajima-san is going to join. XX
The courtyard was close to empty when Hikari walked out of the building, but just as he was about to sit down on a bench among the rosebushes, he caught sight of Kazuo in the hall across the garden. Without another thought, Hikari made his way across the courtyard and into the hall, finding his friend observing another poster for the swimming club. Hikari tapped a finger on the poster. "If you're thinking about joining about joining the swimming team, Kazuo-san, I should tell you in advance that the school pool isn't on the map. The pool was built not more than three months ago, and was just recently opened, so it hasn't been added onto the maps they hand out to students quite yet. I do know where it is though, if you'd like a guide." XX
Flashing Kazuo a gentle smile, Hikari turned on his heel to walk down the hall a ways, stopping until Kazuo followed. "So, did you enjoy your first day at Tokyo University, Kazuo-san?" Listening to Kazuo speak about his classes, Hikari was glad to know that his friend was enjoying his first day. Hikari's own first day of University hadn't been as enjoyable, to say the least, since nearly the entire school either ignored him or shot him annoyed looks. Not much has changed, actually. How disappointing. The two continued to chat about school as they walked, and Hikari emptied his woes about the photography project and how he disliked taking pictures of people. "Although, I doubt I would mind if you were the one I was photographing~" XXX
Hikari stopped speaking when they entered the pool room, which was on the opposite side of the school's main building. The pool itself was huge, covered by a tall ceiling full of skylights and surrounding with many different types of swimming equipment, none of which Hikari knew anything about. There were only a few people actually swimming, since most students were in a class during the afternoon. "If you don't mind, I'm going to go take some pictures of the water and the building. I believe the club's offices are there, if you're going to join." Pointing to a set of doors next to the entrance, Hikari smiled to Kazuo and waved as he walked off toward the pool, carefully pulling his digital camera from its protective carrying case. XXX
Kneeling next to the pool's edge, Hikari lifted the camera to his eye and snapped several shots of the water, which was crystal clear and smelled faintly of chlorine. No one paid him any heed. He then took a few pictures of the skylights, as well as the equipment lining the walls, before packing his camera into his bag with a satisfied smile. I can't even remember the last time I went swimming in a pool like this. Its probably been years. Letting out a sigh, Hikari returned to the pool's entrance and waited patiently for Kazuo, checking his cell for text messages. As expected, he had received none. XX
Once Kazuo had returned, the two headed to the cafeteria, since Hikari still had plenty of free time and Kazuo was finished with classes for the day. Takumi joined them not too far into the meal, still as loud and excited as he had been that morning. Hikari definitely wasn't used to being around loud people, even if his sister was more excitable than him, but he didn't really seem to mind the company of Takumi. He definitely isn't a boring person to be around. Halfway through lunch, Hikari noticed Miki approaching the table. He also noticed the blond stop dead in his tracks when their eyes met, and he knew Miki wouldn't sit with them if he was still there, so he politely excused himself from the table and left, heading back toward the library. "Let's see, where could I possibly find the swimming pool...?" Kazuo quietly pondering as he glanced over the map of the school. The university sure is big and there's a lot of places that he hadn't managed to find yet. Thankfully, Hikari had taken him over for places that are important already, so he doesn't have to worry much. The poster he saw earlier mentioned that any application needed to be handed in for the club president at the school swimming pool. He gazed over the whole map again, until Hikari spoke up and caught his attention.

"Oh, Hikari-san. Hi there." He greeted him when he saw him. Listening attentively to what Hikari said, Kazuo nodded, "Is that so? Well, I felt really bad for keep letting you to show me around all the time like that. But if you don't mind then I guess I have to rely on you."

As Hikari led Kazuo towards the direction of the university's pool, he was asked how was his first day at college, "Well, it was fun, I guess. Okamoto-sensei was such a quirky person, he never failed to amuse the whole lecture hall. At first I thought it would just be endless, boring talks like high school but a lot of things sure are going to be a lot different now, I suppose. You were here longer than me so I think you would know more."

When Hikari expressed his dislike for taking pictures of human, but that he wouldn't mind if the one he would take photograph was Kazuo, he just scratched the back of his head and grinned, "Is that so? Well, I'm really flattered. A lot of guys and girls from the Photography club back in high school also wanted to take my picture too. Though what they are going to do with them is beyond me."

As they opened the door to the swimming pool, Hikari showed Kazuo where the club's office is, while taking pictures of the pool itself. Kazuo opened the door to enter, only to be greeted by a flashy entrance by a good-looking middle-aged man who is even more muscular than he is, whom introduced himself to be the 'final boss' of the club. After sweeping a gaze all over Kazuo's body, he decided that he was qualified enough to join and told him about the activity's club.

Well, Kazuo was rather taken aback. He wasn't into muscular type much but the coach sure was quite handsome, in his opinion. It's going to be fun, I think. He chuckling as he joined Hikari when the two of them headed for the cafeteria. Takumi was already there, loud and energetic as always. The three of them ate away their lunch and converse in peace. That is, until Hikari excused himself for some reason.

Kazuo saw Miki was also walking away when was approaching them. That must be the reason why. Both of them sighed dramatically, knowing that things are going to get complicate from now on.

As he made his way back toward the school library, Hikari couldn't help but think about Miki. How could he not? The two hadn't seen each other since their last year of Junior High, and then all of the sudden they're living only three meters away from one another. This certainly isn't the way I imagined out reunion. I suppose I hoped it would be more romantic and inviting. Though it really was nothing but a hope. With a tired sigh, Hikari changed his mind about the library and instead weaved through the crowd of students and out into the courtyard, taking his usual seat among the far-too-tall rosebushes. The scent of roses was just enough to wear it didn't aggravate his asthma, but was still strong enough fir him to actually enjoy the smell. XX
Hikari took a moment to admire his unhindered view of the rose-filled courtyard. Few people spent their time in the courtyard, as it was a bit unkempt and overgrown with thorny rosebushes, which for some reason happened to be the Gardening Club's pride. Hikari himself loved the courtyard, and was there whenever it was nice out or the library was too crowded. Pulling out his camera and setting his things aside, he dropped onto the grass and raised his camera upward, snapping several different shots of the rosebushes with grey clouds in the background. It still looks as if its going to rain, and now I can smell it in the air. Perhaps it would be best to head inside...or perhaps not. Hikari smiled as he returned to his seat on the bench, waving his polaroid photographs dry and carefully slipping them into his bag for safekeeping. After all, I do love the way the air smells when it rains. XX
In the end, Hikari did go back inside the building, as it started to rain only five minutes later. He wanted nothing more than to stand out in the downpour, but he had forgotten his umbrella that morning in the hype of having a new roommate, and couldn't risk getting his photographs or textbooks wet. Oh well. Slipping his headphones back over his ears and playing the Beethoven cassette that was currently in his Walkman, Hikari leisurely made his way down the hall, humming quietly to himself and ignoring the annoyed stares people sent him. As he passed by the cafeteria, he poked his head in and caught sight of where Miki was chatting animatedly with Takumi and Kazup. Hikari smiled at the sight, and felt glad that the three were becoming friends, even if he did feel a pang of jealousy at how Miki would give them attention yet ignored him almost completely. Oh well. XX
Hikari then headed off toward the music room, putting his thoughts behind him as he went over the piano ballad he'd learned the week before. His music professor had assigned each member of the class - each one playing a different instrument - a specific song to learn over the break, all of which were classical re-makes of newer, popular songs. It had been an interesting assignment, and Hikari had enjoyed it very much, especially since he'd been given the song Imagination by Spyair. He made it to the music room ten minutes before class began, and spent the rest of his lunch break watching the rainfall through the hallway window. When the bell rang, he patiently waited for everyone to vacate the music before entering and taking his place at the piano. It wasn't long before everyone else arrived and the class began, with each member of the class performing their specific song. XX
After the class had ended, Hikari gathered his things and headed home. Luckily, the rain had stopped momentarily, allowing him to return to his dorm without his things getting soaked. "I'm home." He called, slipping off his shoes and placing them neatly on the rack. Kazuo didn't have as many classes as Hikari, so it was likely that the other would be home first. Hikari placed his bag in his bedroom and went about hanging up the rose polaroids, letting out an annoyed sigh when he realized he'd run out of room on the strings covering the ceiling. Hm, I suppose I'm going to have to start taping them onto the wall as well. Once he'd finished, Hikari fished his English homework out of his bag and joined Kazuo at the dining table with a smile. XX
The two chatted for a bit about school, and after a while, Hikari let out a quiet sigh. "Kazuo-san, I'm sure you must be curious about our encounter with Miki- well, Hanamoto-san, and I wouldn't blame you, seeing as I didn't take the time to explain." Hikari's fingers curled tighter around his pencil, and he set it down in favor of winding his fingers together in his lap. "You see, Hanamoto-san and I dated in our third year of Junior High. He was my first friend, and the only friend I've ever had before you and Takumi-san. We were very close - at least, I thought we were. As it turns out, a group of our classmates were bullying him because of our relationship. And, one day, he decided to end it by moving away without telling anyone. Even myself." XX
"We never saw or spoke to one another again, at least not until this morning. I had no idea he was staying on this floor, or that he even went to this school. I'm not that surprised about how awkward our reunion was,or that he ignored me, although I can admit it did sting a little bit." Smiling slightly, Hikari brought a hand up to scratch the back of his neck. "Anyhow, I'm explaining this to you so you won't need a reason to worry, about me or anything else." Hikari gave Kazuo a reassuring smile and quickly changed the subject, not wanting to linger on unsavory thoughts any longer than he needed to. Around seven, he packed up his schoolwork and set about making dinner - grilled fish and octopus. The meal was pleasant, as expected. XX
That night, just past ten, Hikari called his sister. It was nine am in the U.S. so he knew she was likely to be awake. When she answered, her voice was ecstatic - unsurprisingly, as they only shared phone calls when something especially important happened. The rest of the time the two siblings chose to converse through letters. "Micchan! What happened?! Were you in an accident?! Did you get a boyfriend?! Tell me everything!" Hikari had to move the phone from his ear in order to prevent his eardrum from bursting. "Calm down, onee-san, it isn't anything like that." He then explained every detail of his meetings with Miki. Akari grew quiet and listened to him, probably hanging onto every word as he spoke. "Oh, my lovely Micchan!" XXX
Akari spent a good ten minutes reassuring him of how everything would be fine, and that there was nothing to worry about. "I'm sure Miki-chan will come around eventually." She then went on to talk about the city she and her boyfriend were currently staying in, and about how she'd gone riding on a sheep just the day before. Apparently the sheep had been especially grumpy, and bucked her off just as quickly as she'd gotten on. Akari's story made Hikari laugh, and did a good job of lifting his spirits. "You should come back home soon, if only to visit. I miss seeing you in person, nee-san." "I know, I miss you too. And I'll try." It was nearly one in the morning when the two finally hung up, and Hikari passed out, still fully clothed. XXXX

Kazuo and Takumi were eating their meals together, chatting about how their morning has been seperated away from each other. Takumi's majors are computer technology and science study, and it seemed that they turned out to be quite fun for him too. He had thought them to be quite boring, based on what his senpais told him when he's still at High School, but at least he wouldn't be bored to death now. Besides, it's much easier to take a nap here and there during a lecture now, something he personally found to be satisfying.

The whole cafeteria was filled with chatters and conversations though and they weren't the only newbies around. Fortunately, Kazuo didn't stand out very much in comparison with when he's still in High School, except for a few bickers here and there about how he and Takumi were walking and talking with Hikari earlier that day, but he can rest assure a bit that his college life can be a smooth sail from now.

"Hey, guys. Mind if I join you?" Miki spoke up and joined them as he sat down at the table they were sitting and they happily accepted. It was now that Kazuo realized some girls were squealing and expressing their admiration for the guy, thus gaining more attention towards their table. "Looks like you're just as new, but you've already become quite a hot issue, huh?" Kazuo asked with a grin.

"Well, it's not like I really care much about it though. If someone was to be hot issues, I believe you two are more likely to be. You seemed to be just the guys that girls around here would fawn over for." Miki scratched the back of his head and smiled, "So how was your first morning in college?"

And so, the three of them chatted away until lunch break was over. Well, it's no surprise that they can converse as if they've been friends for long, taking into account of how sociable they all were. However, what really takes both Kazuo and Takumi aback was when Miki suddenly confessed about the reason why he and Hikari had been acting weird earlier that day, and how he felt about him. Both of them didn't know how what to say, but Miki seemed genuine about what he said, so Kazuo told him to hang in there, and things will surely get better. Miki had also told them to keep it a secret, as he still need time to "sort his feeling out." Of course, Kazuo and Takumi happily accepted.

The afternoon lessons went on peacefully, though Kazuo didn't come across with his roommate, so he secretly wondered about him often. After seeing how people treated Hikari, it's natural for him to be worrisome. But he tells himself not to concern over it too much. Sometimes, the frailest can actually be the toughest. After the lessons, Kazuo stopped by the Swim Club, as the president had requested the freshly joined to attend a meeting of sorts to introduce themselves. And, dressing in swimsuit is also required.

Takumi had already made his way to the Basketball Club and Miki had gone to Parkour Club, respectively, so he's on his own way to the Swim Club's dressing room. There were about 14 guys there, all of them are freshmen like him, though he didn't know anyone of them. From what he observed, half of them are just as ripped as him, while the rest are, well, a little slender. Well, it isn't like he was being arrogant or something, but he's quite confident in his swimming skills. He made it to the top 4 in the national in his second year back in High School, after all. There could be some real monsters here though, I could never know.

When all the freshmen gathered at the pool, a young man with blonde hair walked out from the club's room. Standing in front of all of them, he cleared his throat before introducing himself. "Welcome everyone to the Swim Club of Tokyo Uni. As everyone might have already known, I'm Tsubasa Shiraishi - the president of this humble club. Or the so-called "second final boss" as Yukimizu-sensei usually stated me." He said in a joking manner that made everyone chuckled, Kazuo included, "The activities around our club will mostly be hosted by me, though sensei will also attend whenever he's free."

As Tsubasa swept a gaze through everyone, he continued, "It seemed that the amount of people applying for our club is a bit shorter in comparison to the previous years, but I can see that there are some real talents joining us..." He cast his gaze upon Kazuo and a couple of others, "...while some are apparently new to this sport. But anyhow, I'm looking forward to work with you all. Let's have a lot of fun together, shall we? Now, it's time for you to introduce yourself and what you're capable of."

And so, the freshmen took their turn to introduce themselves. When it was Kazuo's turn to introduce himself, he realized that some of the guys seemed to know him. Tsubasa even stated that he knows of Kazuo's records and his nickname "black marlin of Sapporo." However, he just humbly addressed that he still had a lot to learn and hoped to get along well with everyone.

For another hour, Kazuo had had fun practicing with his new friends. He had learnt a lot and taught a lot for the newbies too. It's natural for him to get along with people, after all. Not all of them were really fond of him, but participating in club activities had always been a pleasure for him, so he only hopes that it will go well like this until graduation.

When the president called it a day, Kazuo packed up and made his way home. Both Takumi and Miki hadn't finished with theirs yet, and Hikari apparently still have a couple of lectures, so he's alone for now. It's not that late, after all. So after making it back to the apartment, he just took a shower before sitting down by the kotatsu table to read the weekly magazine he's just bought on his way home. A while later, Hikari returned and he greeted him as they joined at the dining table.

While they were conversing, Kazuo was again taken aback as the topic about the relationship between Hikari and Miki was brought up. He honestly doesn't know how to feel about it all, since he had never really been in love before. But in some way, he sympathizes for both of them. He was thinking of telling Hikari of how Miki feels toward him, but he's not the one to go back on his promise.

"Well, it's not like I was curious about it or anything because both me and Taku know that it seemed to be a rather... personal topic. But I'm sure that everything will turn out alright." Kazuo replied to Hikari with a smile, "And, I'm glad you're okay too. I know things will get a bit awkward, but I'm always here to lend a helping hand if you need."

After dinner, they chatted for a while about what has happened during the day before decided to settle down for the night. As Kazuo said goodnight to Hikari, he flopped down on his futon and exhaled a breath that his first day at college had passed, with a lot of things happened. He surfed through Twitter with his phone for a while, chuckling at a selfie his dad had just uploaded, with him holding a young boy and a beautiful middle-aged woman, each on his sides. Indecent old man...

Just like that, the day quietly passed by.
