Personality

Your first impression of this young lady may be that she's friendly, easy going, down-to-earth, yaddi yadda. She flashes a quaint smile and shakes your hand. She introduces herself like a well-mannered human being. But when anything mechanics is involved, your impression of her completely transforms. Her passion for tools and intelligence as well as intellect may intimidate a man; she is no longer what they thought—a bimbo blonde, as innocent as teenage girls could be. Moreover, Winry became independent at a very young age, so she isn't as easy to take advantage of as some may believe. Nevertheless, Winry does tend to be very sensitive and temperamental, and can even be deemed a 'cry baby'. She isn't afraid to let out more than a few tears, and is not the type to keep emotions tucked away.

Miss Rockbell is also very ambitious, striving toward her goals, and never fails to move forward from the past. She may have some insecurities, but when it comes to her passions, she is more than confident about her abilities. Sometimes she can be a little too confident for her own good. If she makes a mistake, she is far too hard on herself, especially if others get hurt. She blames herself for a lot of things. This leads to the fact that she can't take constructive criticism well, unless it is in best interest for another person's well being. Winry has a tendency to go over-the-top when it comes to everything and anything—advancing her career, getting revenge on someone, etc. Sometimes, it's even hard for her to see the other person's point of view, blinded with her emotions only. She can also at times be naive, and even for being independent, she is considerably innocent, not having seen a dead body in her life.

No matter what, Winry always has good intentions, and couldn't hurt a fly, even if that was what she desired.

History

Winry grew up as an only child in the quaint countryside of Resembool, where the grasses go on for miles, and the mountains outline the pastures. Her father and mother—Urey and Sara—were well-known doctors. When Winry was still a little girl, her parents volunteered to provide aid during the Ishvalan War of Extermination, which resulted in their ultimate demise. They were murdered in cold blood, mostly because of their generosity toward helping any person in need of medical attention, Amestrian or not. Her parents' deaths certainly pained Winry for years to come, yet she found a way to cope in spite of the turmoil. Once Urey and Sara passed away, Winry was raised by her grandmother Pinako. She became interested in automail engineering, being that Pinako was an automail engineer herself. When an unfortunate situation occurred to her childhood friends Edward and Alphonse, Edward became her first true customer, and at eleven, she fitted him with an automail arm and leg. Following that, the brothers left on a journey to restore their bodies as members of the military, not returning to their home in Resembool for a long duration of time. Within four years or so, Winry grows as both a mechanic and a person, but she couldn't help but worry constantly for the brothers. She soon becomes mixed up in their debacles, which may have even led to her growing career in Rush Valley.
