The world, as we know it, does not exist. Little girls do not dream about becoming princesses, and there is no such thing as magic and fairy tales. The movies and books we love have never been written or made. Yet... you know something that no one else does. You believe in magic. You don't know why, and maybe you think you're crazy. Maybe the people around you think you're insane. Something in the back of your mind has always told you that something else exists, and you see fragments of things that never were in your dreams. Something is out there, but what is it?

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there existed a land of magic and beauty and romance. There also lived jealousy, darkness, and evil. While we were snug in bed reading books about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, learning the lesson of the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs, and awing over Prince Charming, a war was brewing in the Realm of Enchantment. It had finally come down to the most simple elements of all our beloved stories - an act of good coupled with one of evil. A curse was cast at the precise moment that hope was released, and in that one instant - the entire realm vanished casting the characters into the Earthly realm with no memory or power. The memories of these characters became as if they never were, and there were no movies or books or dreams. Life went on.

Yet, as in all fairy-tales that go amiss, there is hope. Hope exists within those tiny fragments which were embedded in Essex after the Enchanted Realm vanished ten years ago. Their relationships, choices, and destinations were planned by some unknown force all along. They had dreams of things that were not real; a haze of memories that were mere shadows and blurred events. They became drawn to Essex, Connecticut, for this fabled Storybook town had become the nexus of all fairy-tale magic, and the door to a world long since forgotten. They would not know what they were until all the pieces fell in the right place...

... And that is where this story begins, on a day like any other day. Or so you thought...

My rules are simple: don't be an asshole. That really encompasses everything. We are all adults and adults are prone to heated discussions and yadda yadda, but you gotta know when you agree to disagree. Next, post once every TWO WEEKS and with at least 500 words per POST not character. The reason for the word requirement is so that we make sure the story is moving along and that characters aren't just 'reacting' in place, or whatever. If that makes sense.

To reserve a character, please post a 250x250 real-life face claim (no gifs), name, the fairytale character, age, hex code, and whether they are a hero, villain. If they are neutral, that's fine as well. Listen - diversity is encouraged, and that means in all domains such as gender, sexuality, ethnicity. We do not have to conform to the fairytale version of the character exactly. We do not have to conform to their stories exactly, either. In fact, I encourage people to look beyond the movies and child tales to see the real stories behind their characters to draw ideas.

We do have a discord but it will NOT be required, as I will post ALL pertinent information on the OOC forums. If you would like a Discord invite, it is HERE.

Still closely embraced from their dance, Paisley rested her head near the crook of John's neck. John leaned into her as well, a slight smile widening on his face as he looked down towards the crown of her head.

The two had grown close since the time they met each other but their interactions had remained platonic due to John's already existing relationship with Nora and the complications surrounding his still lingering feelings towards his late wife. He didn't want to further complicate his love life but tonight showed that there was some romantic tension between the two, if just a little.

His thoughts were soon interrupted when Paisley said, "Ah, I almost forgot, but I promised to take the kids to the lake for a picnic. Think it will be okay if I drop by and pick them up at noon?" John didn't give it much thought before nodding in agreement. He trusted Paisley with his children and the two seemed to like her. Nothing bad should occur with her watching over them.

"That should work and I'm sure the kids are looking forward to it. Anything to breakup what they perceive to be a boring small town life. I'll swing by if I'm able." John chuckled under his breath, knowing he probably wouldn't be able, before their conversation was interrupted by a waiter holding a tray of filled champagne glasses. He took one for himself and handed another one towards Paisley before the room's attention was grabbed by the host of the evening, Mrs. Pickett.

Her speech focused on the silent auction and how the items would be marked for the item's respective owners as well as a short message about where the funds would be allocated. Mrs. Pickett than gave a short message about hope and some 'new beginning' that would occur. John didn't quite understand the meaning behind her message but he believed there was something more to what she said.

"A new beginning? So strange . . . Was there news that I missed?" John shrugged slightly in response, not having a definitive answer for Paisley. Whatever this 'new beginning' was exactly, John hoped that it would be a beginning that would be positive for him and his children.

He answered as much to Paisley when he said, "Probably but if it's something you've missed I'm pretty sure you're not the only one." John motioned towards all the other confused people in the gala hall. He then continued saying, "Whatever this 'new beginning' is, hopefully it's a peaceful one. Don't want to imagine the countless bad possibilities there could be . . . Maybe you could write a novel based on a horrible possibility like a zombie apocalypse for instance. Apocalyptic and dystopic scenarios seem to be popular lately."

Pulling out the card he was given earlier in the evening John motioned his head towards the items before saying to Paisley, "I'll go see if I won anything tonight. Would be a pretty bad dad if I wasn't able to bring anything back for the kids." He then began to walk towards the auction items before waving goodbye to Paisley and continuing, "Don't be a stranger. I'll see you tomorrow if not later today. Goodnight."

With his card in hand John walked by the first item he placed a bid on tonight, a silver ring with a stag's head, and saw that he had successfully purchased it. John was delighted and planned to wrap a thin cord around it and make a necklace with the ring and give it to his daughter. John then walked towards the old hunting knife and saw that he was also successful at acquiring it. When he grabbed the knife's scabbard he felt a small shock creep up his arm. It wasn't painful but it was noticeable, John shrugged it off however not thinking much of it.

While walking towards an exit of the gala hall John was looking down at his phone, looking for any messages that he may have received. Strangely there wasn't anything, no message from Nora and he didn't see her attending tonight either. Perhaps she was occupied with something else and was unable to contact him. What she would've been busy with he had no idea but he decided to just send her a short message, hoping that she was alright.

Shortly afterwards John found himself outside and an unwilling spectator of a scene occurring between Mr. Duval and Mr. Trujillo. John had noticed some tension between the two earlier in the evening, especially when Ricardo was dancing with Lorelei but he didn't think it would escalate into anything serious. John was uncharacteristically wrong about that.

During the commotion John had wanted to step in several times to try and diffuse the situation but from what he could observe from the sidelines he knew that it wouldn't have ended well for him or them if he had. However when Adrien had taken out a firearm, John placed his hand on his gun holster incase Adrien was stupid enough to actually attempt anything. Luckily for him and everyone surrounding him Grayson was able to deescalate the situation and apprehended Mr. Duval, a decision Grayson may soon regret.

Not wanting to end the night on a sour note John walked towards the nearest group to him, Liesl and Hugo, to see how they were faring after the incident. Without knowledge of their previous conversation John walked in-between the two and said, "Not how I would choose to end a night of festivities but the wealthy and powerful sure know how to spice up a party."

John then turned towards Liesl and said, "Apologies for not being able to talk to you earlier. I was already preoccupied but it seems you were able to find someone else to 'entertain' you." He then smiled at Hugo but he felt that he wasn't going to receive a warm welcome from him. He then continued saying, "You didn't look yourself a little earlier tonight. Anything you wanted to talk about or were you looking forward to leaving here as soon as humanly possible?"

Something was wrong. Horribly wrong. When Jafar's eyes finally popped open and he rolled over to look at the clock, it was... midnight. Again. His brows furrowed in confusion, for when he fell asleep last, it was just shy of ten at night. Yet, he felt well-rested. Too well-rested, if you asked him. He sat up and reached for his cellphone, the bright light of the screen a brief blinding glare after awakening from such a deep sleep.

Did he miss a whole day? He blinked and wiped away the sleep from his eyes, then checked the homescreen again. A panic set into the normally well-reserved and calm man, and he practically shot out of bed and rushed to his study. Something was so wrong, and he could feel it in his bones.

A quick survey of his office revealed that his glass showcase was cracked open just a smidge, which made him walk slowly toward it. The smallest speck of a glimmer caught his eyes, nestled in the corner of one of the shelves. He reached and swept it up with a pink and then brought it closer for observation. Silver glitter. Fairy dust.

More panic. He knew that his happily ever after wouldn't last forever, but he didn't expect for the fairies to figure it out so soon. Too soon. He looked over the items, and discovered that some of them were missing. Dr. Facilier's cane being one. Important, but not enough. The cane had provided Jafar with another avenue of magic, but it would not be detrimental to the curse's wellbeing.

The lamp. The lamp was missing! His eyes grew wide, then red hot anger flashed through them. He smalled his fist down onto the shelf which knocks items off; fragile objects crashing and shattering at his feet. He turned swiftly and went to his room to change, for this night was going to be a busy one for him.

He sent a quick text message to the Nora, Catherine Wyland, and Donovan Voigt, Something is wrong. We need to meet at the well in the clearing. Once the message sent, he grabbed hold of his own staff and poofed out of existence into the apartment room of Dumaine, otherwise known as Dr. Facilier. The cane he had won from the auction rested against a wall near the door, and Jafar seized it.

His slow pace dragged him toward the bedroom where the man slumbered quietly and peacefully. His hand dove into a coat pocket to pull out the necklace that belonged to Dr. Facilier. It contained the souls from the Otherside. Jafar was not certain what was happening, but he could feel the puul of the voodoo magic clamboring for Facilier's soul. It was overdue. He extended his arm and let the necklace dangle from a finger, and the Friends From the Otherside climbed out of the amulet in shadow form, sinking to the floor and crawling beneath the bed. There was a drum beat that seemed to come from nowhere, but it eerie enough to creep even a vile man like Jafar out.

Dumaine's body was gulped up, almost as if he were swallowed by the bed. All the shadows retreated back into the amulet. The drum beat stopped. He wrapped it around his neck, turned away, and left the apartment through the door.

Baja was soon on the quiet moonlit paths of Essex's lonesome streets. As he walked, tapping the cane against the dark pavement, one of his arms folded at the small of his back. He watched the buildings. Observed the scenery. He walked past the town hall, of which had the remnants of something having happened. A cleaning crew shuffled in and out, and his brows knit together in thought. There had been no event that he could think of.

He tilted his head for a second, but continued on after a brief pause.

His head turned and eyes followed as a crow flew past him from above. A few moments after that, a woman's silhouette began to form in the distance. Curious, he checked his phone to see if anyone sent any messages. Nothing yet.

He did not change his pace, rather kept on the approach. Soon enough, he could see her features. While she did not adorn her horns, there was a certain... aesthetic to one of the most famous female villains in all of the Enchanted Realm. He stopped just a couple of feet from all the particular features, a grin finding his lips, "Ah," he began, placing the cane in front of him and resting both hands at its head, "I see the beautiful Maleficent has graced the wonderful town of Essex. Though, I doubt your presence is a humble site seeing excursion."

He gestured toward the woods, though surmised that she might have come from there already. However, the Well is the connection between the Enchanted Realm and this world, so it made more sense to to go there. As the pair of them walked through the quiet town of Essex, they soon came upon the mouth of the forest. It was abysmally dark and unwelcoming, as it should be. Very few people in Essex felt at ease coming to this particular spot, and the closer to the well one came, the more those that did not belong near its vicinity felt the unspoken warning to stay away.

"The Evil Queen and the others should be coming shortly. How are things in the Enchanted Realm?" Jafar inquired, shooting her a quick sideglance. The Well came into view, "The fairies have been busy, haven't they?" Another question, given the circumstances. "There was... fairy dust on my showcase shelf when I woke up. I also seemed to have lost an entire day."

He rubbed his goatee a couple of times, "There is a strange feeling in my little world, and I am uneasy." His gaze ventured outside of the thicket of tree trunks and drooping branches, wandering toward the faintest glimmer of light coming from a building. His creation. His joy. His happily ever after.

"The lamp is missing," he added. The worst news for last, of course!

The car ride to the precinct was a short one, but the heavy silence made each second feel like an eternity. Grayson's patience only lasted so long. By the third stop light, he sighed and flipped on his siren to get them the rest of the way there without anymore stops. Luckily enough, there were no other squad cars at the station when they arrived. The least amount of attention when dealing with Duval, the better. Plus, while he might not have evidence, Gray was convinced that most of the cops were on his payroll. He wasn't sure how long he could keep the man detained but he'd be lucky if he got 24 hours out of it.

While the men weren't far off in stature, Adrien somehow felt like he was nearly twice the size of Grayson as he was pulled out of the back of the car. If the man wasn't cuffed, he didn't know if he'd be able to take him on his own. It was strange. Essex was such a quiet town, he couldn't recall if he's ever had to take someone into custody. The town, no doubt, would be buzzing of it by morning. As if he wasn't the most hated cop on the force, Gray seemed intent on painting a larger target on his back, it seemed.

Both men were silent as they made their way through the station toward the jail cell. That's right. One singular cell. And by the looks of it, the bench had more dust on it than any of the weird objects at the auction combined. The last time Grayson ever recalled seeing anyone actually using it was when the Sheriff came to work so drunk he couldn't sit up. And that was nearly 3 years ago.

After locking Adrien up, Gray slowly made his way over to the empty desk that faced the cell. He removed his sports coat, hanging it on the back of the chair before he started untucking his shirt.

"You're going to regret this," Adrien said as he draped his arms across the bars of the cell door.

Grayson sighed, loosening his tie and unbuttoning his collar. "I know," he sighed.

Adrien tapped his thumb against the cold metal, clicking his tongue. After a moment or two he spoke up once again. "I have a right to a phone call."

Gray had nearly taken his seat when Duval spoke up again. He groaned, pushing off his knees to stand back upright again. He grabbed the phone on the desk, some ancient '80s or '90s rotary that looked like it had never been used. He set the receiver down on the ground outside the cell, but close enough for Adrien to dial the number and make his call.

"Can you remove my cuffs?" Adrien asked, holding out his hands.

"No," Grayson replied coldly as he made his way back over to the desk and finally took a seat.

Adrien crouched down and struggled for a moment or two as he tried to work his large hands through the bars to dial the number and pick up the phone. It might have rang twice before someone on the other lined picked up. "Donovan, it's Adrien," he said, not seeming to car if the cop knew who he was talking to. If anything, knowing he was calling his lawyer would only let it sink in more that Grayson was messing with something he should have left alone. "I'm at the station... I was arrested."

There was silence for a moment or two before Adrien slowly looked up and met Grayson's gaze. "Officer Hughes."

He stayed like that, cold and menacing, until the unknown voice on the other end of the line must have asked more questions. Grayson settled into his seat, propping his feet up onto the desk as his prisoner spilled his biased opinions of the night's events. It was interesting hearing things from his perspective. It seemed, before the fight, the only thing that held his attention, beyond a rifle, was the Voigt twins. Leave it to someone like Adrien to think with his dick and nothing more.

When the conversation seemed to be nothing more than Adrien's consistent rambling and whining, Grayson closed his eyes and slowly began to drift off.

Lorelei had been to Adrien's home more times than she could count. She had grown accustomed to it to the point where, subconsciously, she assumed all other mansions were the same. And in the end, weren't they? They were all these large lavish homes with furniture that cost more than what most people in Essex could afford in a year. While others might have gotten excited at the prospect of staying in a home that size of a museum, she felt like she might have traded one gilded cage for another. Part of her just wanted to go home, but an equal part didn't. All that was waiting for her was an unloving father and chastising from Liesl.

The drive was silent. And as if Lorelei didn't feel like enough of a stranger, sitting in the back of the limo alone felt alien. This wasn't her car, it was Ricardo's. If anything, he should be the one in the back with her upfront. Everything was backwards to what she had learned with Adrien, yet also so similar. She felt like she was in the twilight zone, in some weird parallel world where she went from being invisible to somehow causing a fight. She wasn't the center of anything... ever. Let alone a quarrel between two men. Yet there she was. And it was no fever dream.

Lorelei was so lost in thought, she didn't even realize the car had come to a stop. It was only when Jacque opened the door that she finally snapped out of her own wondering mind. It wasn't long after she had gotten out of the car that Ricardo turned toward her. "Miss. Potterson will show you to your room. Everything but the West Wing is open to you." Did that include the exit, she wondered.

"Sleep well, Miss. Voigt."

"Good night," she replied sheepishly toward Ricardo's retreating form.

It was only then that Lorelei fully took in... everything. To the best of her knowledge, no one has ever set foot onto Trujillo property other than Ricardo's own servants. There were whispers about his home but no one has ever been able to get close to it. She half expected the house to look like a dungeon, a dark and foreboding place that no one dare get within a mile of. And while something about it was off putting, there was also a strange eery beauty to it. The estate felt separate from Essex, like it lived in its own world far away from town. Lorelei wondered if she stepped into another world. Could she return from this place? Was she the first to set foot there?

After a few moments of every thought imaginable running through her mind, she followed Jacque into the foyer. She hardly had a chance to take in the dark and foreboding entryway before a silver haired woman excitedly approached her. She took one of Lorelei's hands in her own as she greeted her. "Good evening, Miss. Voigt. We've been waiting for you for such a long time."

Lorelei smiled, but a confused look washed over her face as she took in the meaning of the woman's words. "Waiting... for me?" she echoed.

The woman brought her hand to her lips like the woman said something she shouldn't have. Part of Lorelei wished to press the matter, but the woman seemed far too chipper to bring her down. So she just smiled as the conversation shifted forward. "We don't get many guests."

"I don't imagine you do. Most people talk about this place like it's haunted." She chuckled softly, but a small part of her wanted the kind woman to prove her wrong and perhaps put her nerves as ease.

"Nevermind the eerie ambiance. It's much brighter when the curtains are drawn," Miss Potterson reassured as she motioned for her to follow. Lorelei followed behind the woman trying her best to commit to memory the layout of the house. But quickly she started to forget what was where. No matter how long she worked for Adrien, she never quite mastered not getting lost in giant homes like this one.

"You'll not have much business in the kitchen, but the dining room is here. We have many servants that are dying to cook a proper meal."

The dining room looked like a room that belonged in Dracula's castle and who knows the last time it was used. By the sounds of it, a lot of the house wasn't used to its fully potential. Before Lorelei could stop herself, she blurted out a thought that had been bouncing around in her head throughout the tour. "Its a lot of house... And servants for just one man." She trailed behind, peeking into the rooms as she passed, each one looking less used than the one before.

"Does he ever have company?" Lorelei's brows furrowed surprised at her own bluntness. It wasn't her business. But a small part of her wanted to know, even though she didn't know why. What did it matter if Ricardo ever had company? There were similarities between him and Adrien, so she wouldn't be surprised if he entertained women here from time to time. But there was no evidence of it. Although... They wouldn't spend much time in the dining room, would they?

"Oh dear," Miss Potterson exclaimed, bringing Lorelei back out of her thoughts. "Time truly does fly!" The woman guided her towards a large set of double doors, motioning her forward. "Just put your clothing in the bathroom basket, and I will have them cleaned for you. We tried our best to provide you with undergarments and clothing, but it was such short notice and we don't know much about you at all. We will serve your breakfast downstairs in the morning. Good night, Miss. Voigt."

"Good night," she called after the retreating woman.

Lorelei was left in the dark corridor staring at the ominous doors. Her blonde hair and silver dress made her stand out like a single star against the blackest night. While it was rare that she felt like she belonged anywhere in Essex, it was there in that great big gothic mansion that she felt the most out of place. She knew nothing about Ricardo, but one step into his home she quickly realized that they were night and day. What in the world was she doing there?

With a sigh, she slowly opened one of the doors and stepped into the room. Lorelei didn't know what she expected, but the guest room matched the ambiance of the rest of the house perfectly. Perhaps a small part of her had thought that this room would have been different. Maybe Ricardo was Dracula... The gothic architecture, antique furniture, dark curtains and heavy curtains made that place look like a vampire's den. There was even a wing kept hidden to just himself. What truths were kept secret in the West Wing? She rolled her eyes and chuckled at her own imagination running away with her. If Ricardo was a vampire then Adrien must have been Satan himself.

Lorelei shook her head as she closed the door behind her and stepped into the room. Just as Miss Potterson had said, there was a nightgown waiting for her on the bed along with a few dresses for her. As she went to move the clothes out of the way she noticed a small black box tied with a perfect red bow. Her brows furrowed as she looked at it curiously. Part of her said not to open it, but the other more curious side won out as her fingers already began to slip the ribbon off and lift off the lid. Inside laid the feather quill and inkwell like nothing had happened to them. Two fingers delicately picked up the quill as she studied it with a puzzled expression. Lorelei thought she left this behind at City Hall, yet here it laid like nothing had happened. Did he grab it for her? There were many questions, but all the while a soft smile crossed her lips as she closed the box and set it on the nightstand.

Per Miss Potterson's request, Lorelei laid her gown in the basket in the bathroom. She had accepted the dress couldn't be salvaged with the ink stains, but perhaps with some magic, like that used on the quill, somehow it would be restored. After slipping into the nightgown, Lorelei wandered over to the window. She was restless and something inside her was the smallest bit reluctant to go to sleep and let her guard down. But eventually she climbed into the bed and under the blankets. For a long while she stared at the door but after sometime, even her racing mind grew tired and she drifted off to sleep.

Hugo had just been contemplating his prospects for the night when Liesl quite literally grabbed him by the hand and said, "Looks like your wish might come sooner than you thought." Hugo didn’t object to being pulled along out the doors, though he did manage to sputter out a dumb, ”What?” As they went.

Liesl didn’t have to explain. There were Ricardo and Adrien, duking it out. Over something stupid and inconsiquential, no doubt. "I always thought Adrien would be the one to make the first move,"

Hugo had to agree, Adrien was hot-headed and stupid. ”Guess Ricardo is just more of a romantic.” He delivered the line flatly, but internally he really thought it was hilarious. He thought he was just the funniest person in the room… Parking lot.

The running commentary between the two of them was cut rather short when Adrien pulled out a gun. Hugo wasn’t sure how concerned he should be, but it wasn’t pointing in his direction yet. ”Well… What is Adrien compensating for there?”

But Hughes cut all the fun short. Hugo really would have liked to see what Adrien was really capable of. "I'm glad I didn't place a bet," Hugo snorted and shook his head. Truly, they could have made some money there if they’d had time to start taking bets. Adrien might have even been proud of the enterprise. Alas, they’d never know.

”My money would have been on Ricardo. My father always bet on the wild card.” And now he’s dead. Maybe Hugo shouldn’t try to follow in his footsteps after all.

"Looks like I'll be spending my night alone… Unless you wanted some company?” The sultry expression on Liesl’s face was truly enough to get any hot-blooded man’s heart racing. Truly, she was a temptress for the ages. Hugo smiled at her, charming, bright; no trace of the man who would use her up and send her out without a moment’s hesitation.

”You know there’s always room for you in my bed.” Straight to the point- there was no use beating around the bush, after all. They both knew what they wanted and what they’d get out of this.

Then John Waldmann was there, getting right in the middle of their business. "Not how I would choose to end a night of festivities but the wealthy and powerful sure know how to spice up a party." Hugo smiled politely, but had to fight to keep from rolling his eyes as John turned to talk to Liesl. He shot a bright grin at John when he smiled at him, looking every bit like he was thrilled that John was there. Never show your cards.

"No, man. I was just trying to make friendly conversation with one of the few faces I know. My intentions are pure," Ben nodded. He believed Roman. It was just surprisingly common, and while he didn’t want to get into the scores of weird messages he’d received since the amputation, he did feel almost like he owed the man some sort of explanation, but Mrs. Picket began speaking before he got the chance, so it was destined to remain a mystery.

Ben frowned at the speech. It was very strange, and he was glad to have a nice stiff drink to accompany it. Ben was taken a little off guard by Roman clinking his glass against his own, but smiled a little at the gesture regardless. He nodded in understanding as Roman said he had to get going, citing a dog to return to. Ben couldn’t imagine living in a van with a dog, but to each his own. "I'll catch you and that sexy nub tomorrow."

Ben nodded, pure and complete stoicism on his face. ”Of course. I expect to see you first thing, I’ll save you a table, scrounge up some candles, even.” He smiled, and passed his empty glass off to a waiter before grabbing a champagne flute- he didn’t know if it had gone untouched or just unfinished, but he didn’t care- and downing it’s contents before heading to see if he’d won anything he’d bid on.

And of course it was the watch. He stared at it for a long moment, turning it over in his hand, opening it to look at the face. What the hell was he going to do with a damn pocket watch? He pocketed the thing and decided to go home to do a little more drinking. Couldn’t hurt, he only had to be awake at 4:30 the next morning.

He did take a longer route home, passing by the river on his way. He pulled the watch out of his pocket then, staring out at the water as he turned it in his good hand. A large part of him wanted to throw it into the water. Some small unknown something, buried deep down, wouldn’t let him. Instead he went home, had a few beers, and sat quietly on the floor. He’d created a lonely life for himself, full of isolation and anger. These moments of self-awareness weren’t something he liked, but he would bet real money that Dr. Fines would tell him it was a step towards doing something about it or… Something. He didn’t care.

He let his head loll back against the wall, staring straight up at the ceiling. He should have stayed home. Going to that auction was a mistake. He looked down and picked up the pocket watch from it’s spot on the ground between his legs. Panic filled his heart as he activated the mechanism to open the face- it was broken. He knew it was broken. He could see that it was broken. But he swore he could hear it.

He threw the thing across the room. He was losing it, or he’d had too much to drink. He’d… He’d go to sleep, maybe visit Fines in the morning if he wasn’t feeling better. Yeah. That was a good idea.
