Introduction
From 1983-1985, an evil force attacked Earth through an interdimensional portal in the town of Hawkins. A mind manipulating entity dubbed the ‘Mind Flayer’ possessed 30 people and melted their flesh together to create a physical body it could control. Its body died in the Starcourt Mall, defeated by a party of misfits. Of course, the public story is that they died in the mall’s fire, and there was nothing extra-terrestrial about the incident. Details are flaky. Those with direct connections to the party have either left Hawkins or moved on in their own way, as they should.
But there our story diverges.
The Mind Flayer had ‘flayed’ more than those 30 people. It had stored others in the abandoned Brinborn Steel Works building, dormant for some other unknowable purpose. When the battle at Starcourt Mall was won and the Mind Flayer’s connection to our reality was severed, so too was its hold over the remaining Flayed. A group of Hawkins residents found themselves standing in the basement of the steel mill, with no memory of how they got there or where they had been for the past month with some variation in how long they were all missing. Soon they will find their bodies have been permanently altered, cursed with an extra-terrestrial biology and supernatural powers. Connected by a higher power, the Flayed will have to band together as a new threat emerges.
The story begins in the Steel Works' basement, as you regain consciousness with no memory of how you got there.
Character Creation
You are one of the Flayed, forced to adapt to your own new biology and find a way to get by. Tap into your new powers, or reject them. Put in the extra work to maintain a social life, or become an outcast. Do you seek out answers or move on with your life?
It's 1985, so keep that in mind. You'll find your character has an aversion to normal foods, instead making them sick. Instead any sort of dangerous chemical might become a suitable alternative... Detergent did always look sort of alluring, didn't it?
You may write out your character sheet however you like, but here is a sample one I like to use:
