"Remember those times when we used to actually be friends? Those were nice times, times that weren't very far behind us." Long ago, ten students were best friends in elementary school. They spent practically their whole life with each other. Even their parents bonded with one another. They were like... one big family, you could say, because it was hard to find one of them alone whenever you looked. Separate them? No way, not going to happen. Their bonds were just that strong. And imagine, this all started with fate stringing them with a simple introduction. Ever since, these ten students have become the closest of friends possible.

ImageImage
Starting from elementary, their relationships and friendships were born. How? That is what they know and remember, being precious memories of the past, even to today. They went through childish crushes, tackling each other on the grass just for fun, and passing dramatic notes in class just because they were in their young ages. These fights, crushes, and childish feelings towards each other often faded within a couple of days. After all, they all loved each other in the end, and they got over it, maybe shedding a few forgettable tears here and there. Truly a friendship.

ImageImage
But it wasn't as though their friendship stopped there. The school they went to provided for kids from kindergarden to middle school, and so they continued their daily, regular lives from the next year, to the next, and the year afterwards. There were two incredibly competitive boys who always held somewhat of a rivalry for some, a girl who wasn't afraid to be honest, a boy who did nothing half of the day, a girl who was very preceptive towards others, a boy who cared less about himself than for others, a girl who had the aura of maturity, a boy who had an odd tendency to get the ladies, and two girls who were simply bursting with energy and a bit mischief.

ImageImage
Over time, they got a bit more distant, getting overwhelmed with the shift from elementary to middle school. The older kids actually made them nervous, and half way through middle school, some of the girls began to feel the need to be like the others and wear makeup. The guys began to become more rude and sporty like the other guys were. They fit in entirely well, but what a tiresome act is was. It was only after school when the ten of them met up to become their goofy childish selves again, just as they always were when they were younger. None of that silly "growing up" nonsense stopped them from being themselves like before- is what they thought.

ImageImage
Things definitely began to change, whether they liked it or not. Suddenly, these ten friends didn't exactly just like each other as friends anymore; some actually had feelings for each other, and they had no clue how to respond to it. What could they expect? They were growing older? But they were still kids on the inside. It was a wrong feeling, and it slowly began to detach the group. These feelings weren't just romantic though, a few began to see flaws in their friends that began to irritate them, and some rivalries made enemies between two people. And to make it worse- they were never going to see each other again. Because all of them were moving away.

ImageImage
Yes, they were all moving away to different schools, to different cities, and some even moved all the way across the world, traveling over seas. But why did it happen? Was it purposely? Was it the parents' doing? No. Not at all. It wasn't any of those reasons. It was simply fate, deciding to tear them apart. Fathers and mothers had jobs across the seas, the taxes were too expensive, some of them had to get ready for high school in schools more fitted for their college choices, already. Regardless of the reason, it had nothing to do with the way they behaved and acted towards one another. It was already beginning, see, their coming of age to finally grow up and start the path to adulthood. Maybe those ten kids knew that they wouldn't be the same in the future and that they knew things would change and happen, but chose to push it away. They had their reasons to. The thought of becoming someone different, someone you wouldn't recognize until the time, was scary to them, and maybe that's why none of them mentioned it to each other and simply stayed quiet to enjoy whatever happy moments they had left. Those happy moments died away though, little by little, day by day. The group began to fall apart because they were growing up and become people they hadn't predicted to become. This move, however, was only making the matter worse.
Those childish days were now left behind them.
After all.
Times waits for no one.
ImageImage
And so they went their separate ways. What was the most tragic part of it all was that most of them left each other on a bad note. They didn't remember the days when they were smiling and laughing together on the last day they saw each other. Instead, most of them remember anger, hatred, and rivalry. Their eyes, when they looked at each other, said nothing friendly, even if they didn't use words. That's what was so bad about it. It was horrible. The parents couldn't see it. They couldn't see their children giving glares and threatening looks at each other like they were going to start a fight. The last day they saw each other, it wasn't pleasant. Instead of missing them and the fun they shared when they were younger, they remembered hurting one another, and nothing else. On the last day, they didn't say good byes. They remained silent and let what happened happen. There was the smaller majority of the group, thankfully, that hadn't gotten into fights and cried their hearts out. They wouldn't see each other again, and none of them had phones to contact each other with. This was the second half of the tragic day when they'd leave, all in opposite directions. Despite the anger and hatred in the air, there were also tears and tight embraces. It was always a horrible feeling when a best friend would never see their best friend for the rest of their life. Yes, it was over. They all went their separate ways, went to new high schools, made new friends, found new loves, and adapted to their setting within the time they lived and stayed there. What was left behind was everything from the past. They hardly dwelled on it anymore, and those memories began to fade away into nothing, slowly being forgotten. But then again, once you've met someone you never really forget them. It just takes a while for your memories to return.

ImageImage
A few years have passed since all ten of the students cut ties with each other once graduating middle school and entering the stage of adolescence without each other. Obviously, they somewhat began to forget each other, or, more like, forgot to remember each other, but one the day they separated, they thought they'd never see each other again. Some were incredibly fine with that while others were incredibly not. But years later, after readjusting to their new homes, their parents have set up something a little special for them this ongoing summer.
ImageImage
"We're sending you back to your home from --- years ago for the summer with a few of your friends. We've rented you a small home for the ten of you to stay in for the summer on the country side. You can enjoy the land, and there are plenty of activities to do there and places that you and your friends would enjoy. You're next to the ocean and living on the base of the mountain for a while. I'm certain you'll all enjoy it, especially since it's been so long since you've all seen each other before." Of course they all said yes, but wondered- 'I just saw my friends a week ago before summer. What do they mean by that...?'
ImageImage
It's quite obvious to us, however, that these ten students are oblivious to the fact that they're meeting up with their friends from childhood. They do not know this, and therefore pack for a summer vacation without questioning or complaining. They thought it was their friends from their school, from their city, where they lived, and yes, they did wonder a bit about who these friends were, but didn't call or text to find out. A surprise sounded like some fun, actually. When the time to leave came, they went, excited to see where they'd be living for the summer.
ImageImage
When they all arrived, all at different times, obviously, they instant were amazed by the beauty of the countryside. Green was everywhere, and when it turned dark, you could see every single star in the sky. Old traditional houses were scattered around the crop fields and shrines to deities were placed here and there, hidden secretly in the underbrush. Their inner children instincts came out, having an urge to explore and look around, but the house was priority, and they saw an excepted sight when they arrived.

ImageImage
Instead of finding the friends that they had expected, the ten found each other staring at their old friends from their childhood years. It came as a shock to them all, and they didn't know how to react. Those feelings of anger, rivalry, and even some of the friendships, were in the far past, childish feelings that they weren't sure to hold onto upon seeing their faces. They can't leave, however. Their summer has just started, and how it ends, whether good or bad is up to them. Will these feelings of a child come back to them? Or will they be withheld with a mask of maturity?

Satoru looked at the shining, crystal clear blue pool with some sort of twinkle in his eyes. Swimming always fascinated him, ever since he was a child. It started with his father, and after he died, along with his dream to become an olympic swimmer, Satoru carried on all that he ever wanted before passing away. He worked hard for so long, and now was that time where if he won, he'd move on, and maybe, just one day, he'd make it into the Olympics and complete his father's dream.

It was still two hours away from his competition, and he didn't want to stress his mind or tire his muscles by extreme practice before. The seats, bleachers, chairs- they were all empty, waiting to be filled with the audience who would watch him, and various other people, compete in a huge swimming race.

Satoru got a call from his mom a day before though. She said something about a few friends coming to watch him? She left a voicemail since he wasn't there to pick up the phone, and he forgot to call her back about it. "Wonder who they could be..." Satoru murmured to himself and then checked his watch. It was 1:32 on his watch, and they were apparently supposed to have met him before the competition at 1:30 sharp, but no one was where yet.

He looked around, still finding no traces of anyone, and said to himself, "Maybe it was just a prank of some sort... To calm my mind maybe." He considered going home, but stopped and waited for a few more minutes, just incase these mysterious friends of his were to actually show up...

Everything... it just seemed so.. different. It was actually a little bit scary, terrifying. But here she was, lost and without her brother, struggling with her English just from the nerves alone. She had been in Russia, leading her to almost forget Japanese, just as easily. It was Russian, day in and day out, mixed with English when it came with the exchange students.

Following the signs, Ryu had promised to meet her by the next biggest event- the swim competition...

These things brought back some mixed emotions, mixed memories. Some of them were simply blurred passed the lines, shoved into a dark closet somewhere to feed her loneliness when it was time to dance and perform. But now? Now she was doubting if her dreams were all that important. At all, really.

Ryu told her not to give up, but what was the point of doing something that didn't make a person happy? Or bring excitement into her life? She just... didn't know.

But remembering the days she was so excited to jump around the room, spin and twirl, it pushed away those silly memories, those silly doubts. It in fact made her want to prove herself wrong, to think of the next big dance. A deep breathe of air, she could just smell the chlorine, the fresh air.

Right! It was time to start being serious about the vacation! Inspiration was everywhere, she just needed to look for it! 'Now I wonder where...' Looking around, Hiro was quick to suddenly spot someone. She froze, heartbeat nearly stopping dead in it's tracks.

Oh that son of a bitch! He had purposely lost her! This must of been a set up! "Excuse me?" Hiroko called out, although she was a bit reluctant as she drew closer. He seemed... so... familiar.

    It couldn't be, could it?

Of course not! He was busy elsewhere, and besides, it had been years since they last saw each other. But if it was, would that mean they would show up too?

"Tch." Satoru's eyes lured towards the ground. 'I knew it was just a prank. God, she thinks I need a few imaginary friends to help calm myself before a competition? That's stupid,' he thought to himself. A frown crossed his face, but he had to admit he was a bit disappointed. What was he so excited about? Did he expect to see people he knew? His mom was the type of person to something like that to help him after all...

Just as he turned to leave, he heard a voice. "Excuse me?"

Who was that? Why was that voice so damn familiar to his ears? Satoru had the urge to turn around, but at the same time, he didn't. Maybe it was just his imagination, because that almost sounded like that close friend of his from a long, long time ago. After a while of just standing there, wondering if he should continue walking or not, he turned around and found him facing just who he suspected - Hiroko Minamoto. "Hiro...?" Satoru accidentally murmured her nickname under his breath. His voice held new emotions that were lost when they had separated: surprised, amazement, and even... a bit of plain happiness? That expression he held on his face he probably wouldn't even recognize if he looked in a mirror. 'No... no it can't be. She just... she just looks like her, right?'

"Hiroko... Miyamoto?" Satoru took a few steps closer to her, as if he needed to see her up close in order to make sure he was right. He didn't want to go smiling and opening his arms to a stranger. That'd be unusual. Would he do that with her in the first place? It flustered him a bit to think of it and quickly washed the thought away.

Then, from somewhere up in the stands, a single pair of hands would be heard, clapping with a very unenthusiastic whistle. "Get a room you two."

Akira sat in the stands above the two below, leg crossed over the other, as usual, crossing her arms. There was that usual face she'd wear, that apathetic and uninterested look as her eyes observed the two below. How long she was waiting up there for someone, anyone to notice her was a mystery.

Well, at least she got to have her fun, even if it took a while and lasted only moments.

Knowing that brought a small smirk on her face, which drove Satoru mad. He knew that look on her face. His face grew slightly red from her comment and he yelled up at her, "Where the hell were you that whole time! I was gonna leave!"

"Hello to you too." Akira rolled her eyes and waved over to her good friend Hiroko. She hadn't forgotten her of course. Everyone at those other schools were lying stereotypes, so there was no way she'd forget her true friends.
