Colette was the very definition of confused by the time that they arrived to Tinashé's room. She didn't even want to glance behind her to see what her sister's face looked like; she already had a vision. And the fact that Shay was either remaining blissfully unaware or just plain nonchalant was...frightening. What the hell had happened when she and Carson left the room? Did she and Owen get into a worst altercation than in the last few days? She was honestly at a loss and her best friend's current temperament was not helping, in any way. While Shay pranced - yes, pranced, that sounded like a good word in such a weird setting in Colette's head - into the closet to find the dress she had specified, Colette stood close to the door of the closet with her body mostly inside, leaning against the doorway and feeling so out of place that it was frightening. When Ariana spoke about having a thing for Carson, Colette tried to appear unfazed, glancing back at Shay who had only paused in her perusing to stare right back at Colette, blankly.

"Ummm...yeah...thought you guys would be one of the hottest couples in Cali," she replied dumbly, not knowing what to honestly say but knowing that her not saying anything wasn't helping. A little frustrated, Colette leaned further into the closet to hiss quietly at Shay, "What the hell is? Should I be scared for my life right now?" Shay only chuckled lightly, selecting a few items from the clothing that Colette had brought into her room earlier. They hadn't decided on anything, but Shay knew what dress Colette was going to wear and she would be damned if Colette winded up giving it to her sister because Ariana was a control freak. "Me wanting to enjoy my party without either wanting to slap her, my sister, my brother or all three in one foul blow," she muttered in response before walking out of the closet. Instead of acknowledging Ariana's statement about Carson, Shay pulled up the dress with a small smile, "I found it so precious and she hasn't even worn it yet. Bitchlette's a little paler, so it'll probs go better with your skin tone."

Colette found herself in some weird trance-like state, or was it a horror movie? Tinashé was being nice? Her best friend - the one who BLATANTLY stated that she HATED Ariana Rockefeller with a passion unknown to man - was being nice to her? Colette needed a drink. She needed something strong. Shay, purposefully, ignored her friend's inner turmoil. She didn't have time with being particularly catty, which was why she ignored Ariana's attempt at goading her. Instead, she focused on getting the girl something that would, subsequently, get her to leave Colette alone so that Shay could have a friend who was not sitting there worried about comparing herself to Ariana. Ariana's wardrobe consisted of whatever she stole from Colette and whatever she thought could compete with Colette. And Shay knew that and knew that for all the tailbone her bestie possessed, it disappeared in the face of her sister, regardless of the fact that her holding her tongue wasn't helping the situation in any way. So, if Colette wanted to continuously give in to Ariana's stupid demands, then so be it. Shay would help. At least, it wouldn't be some situation that dragged on continuously.

"Oooohh, Bitchlette, go get Emilio Pucci set from your room!" Shay decided and Colette blinked once, then twice before nodding. "Uh, sure. Ok." She didn't know how she felt about leaving the queen of mean and the girl with a mean backhand alone in a room together, but anything felt better than...whatever that was going on in that room. Just as she left the room, Colette's phone buzzed again. She had ignored it the first time, but opted to glance downward to see Owen's text for help. And damn it, she needed his almost as much as he needed hers.

To: Owen
Your room. Now. Like, now now. Omw

Ariana didn't let much get past her, so she was certainly aware of how uneasy Colette was acting. She felt like this situation was just as bizarre as Colette, but this was a perfect example of how different the girls reacted to things. It was natural for Ariana to internalize her reactions and emotions and keep a steady and calm demeanor ready for the public, while Colette rarely seemed to do that. The two girls stepping into the closet, enough say that they were out of her sight, had Ari questioning her decision to sit on Shay's bed and wait. She knew how ridiculous her thoughts were, but she was paranoid that this was all some scheme, and maybe Colette's acting skills had just improved since their childhood. Colette was weak on her own, but with Shay and the unfitting confidence she had taken on, she was sure that they probably thought they were superior to her. Then it struck her that maybe Shay was trying to set Colette up with Owen. If Colette had a big enough mouth to blab to Ari about that crush a year back, she had most definitely told Shay. It wasn't even questionable that Shay didn't want Ariana with Owen, and in Ariana's mind, would surely try to get Owen to like Colette if it meant beating out Ariana, even indirectly.

When Shay neared the closet entrance and was holding a dress, Ariana decided it was time to be more hands on. She got up and headed to the doorway, examining the dress carefully. "Hmm... it is cute, but I think I need something more... sensual." Tinashé told Colette to go get an Emilio Pucci outfit from her room, and in typical Colette form, she followed instruction without questioning it. Ari would have much rather preferred Colette alone than Shay alone, but for some reason, she also preferred Shay alone than Shay and Colette together. "What colors are you and Carson wearing? I feel like green is so your color," she commented, briefly sifting through some of the dresses hanging beside her. "Even if it does seem random, I think you guys are cute. I mean, anyone would be with him, but that's beside the point. Have you slept together?" It was probably the most direct question she could ask, but her smile was still present, and had now even transformed into a curious and mischievous one. She had went from days ago, accusing Shay of threatening to kill her, to acting like they were girlfriends gushing over boyfriends. It wasn't genuine though. Both girls knew it, but Ari would keep up her part as long as it took to figure out why Shay was being nice to her in the first place.

Although Alexandra left the kitchen by giving Owen the finger, she did hear what he said. She absolutely wasn't going to apologize to Shay, because she didn't think that she needed to be sorry about anything, but she did want to apologize to Aimee. Her father had taken Owen's side, as expected, but she decided that sending him a nice message couldn't hurt either. She imagined that having her father and stepmother on the opposite side of the world for two months would have given her some real space away from them, but that hope was proving to be unsupported. The last thing she wanted or needed was for her to be cut off financially, sent back to rehab, or even just pestered with more nagging calls and messages about how she needed to shape up.

She decided to send the text to the couple in a group chat, and expressed her apologies for being disrespectful and out of line, before ending it with a comment on how she loved them and hoped their trip was going well. It seemed sweet enough to make it seem like she was really making an effort, even if she didn't feel as sincere as the text was worded to sound. She didn't put her phone down after that message was sent, though. Instead, she did the opposite of what Owen advised her to do in respect to their sister.

To: Shay
Are you seriously not going to apologize to me...

After that was sent, she actually completed the remaining notes on Owen's list of suggestions for her. She took a quick, five minute shower to wake herself up after that flight, blow dried and straightened her hair, put on her outfit for the night. She was wearing orange, the color representing gluttony, that she honestly hadn't even bothered to look up the definition for. She had been the first one to call Shay's party theme stupid, and since she didn't plan on attending, she hadn't done any specific shopping for the party. Still, Alexandra's closet was stocked well enough to clothe a small village, and she decided that the Nasty Gal dress matched with her Fendi ankle boots would be casual enough to show that she wasn't trying, but also fitting enough to make her look nice. She finished the outfit with eight Cartier love bracelets, which in itself, were worth a total of forty grand, and a fresh face of makeup.

It was a relief when Colette texted him back, because his text to Ariana went unanswered. As far as he knew, his girlfriend was in a good mood, but if that had somehow shifted to a worse one, it was possible that no matter what color he wore, it was still going to be different than the one she wanted him in. If anyone could put him in a good outfit though, it would be Colette, so after returning the Oreo's container to the pantry, he found himself heading up to his room at a pace that neared a jog.

To: Colette
Omw too

Was it bad that Colette served as an escape for him from not only his family, but maybe Ariana too? He loved Ariana. It was likely clear to everyone that Owen was head over heels for her, awestruck at the idea that a guy like him could get a girl like her. He thought that their relationship was more genuine than she sometimes did though, and was completely in the dark to the fact that she had spent a few nights with her ex while they were dating. He put up with Ariana and all of her flaws, because Owen was convinced that he was lucky to be dating her, even if she was as cold as the ice queen. It wasn't like she was all bad, all the time anyway. There were a lot of times, like last night, when Owen was sure that she loved him too. She seemed comfortable and happy, and it reassured him that maybe she was justified in being extremely opinionated and sometimes unreasonable. Maybe he was as out of line as she made it seem. Over the past few days, it wasn't even just her who was calling him out on his behavior anyway. The fact that he even called hanging out with Colette an "escape" spoke to how unhealthy their relationship could be, though. He didn't want it to be that way, but for now, he was just in a mindset where he savored his time with Ari, and also savored those escapes where he didn't have to be on his toes all of the time, with Colette.

When he made it to his bedroom, he found that Colette was already inside. "You're quick," he grinned, a look that was instinctive upon seeing her. "I hope I'm not cutting into your getting ready time. If you're anything like your sister, I know you can't afford to lose any time on that," he continued, before stepping closer and looking at her face. "Speaking of Ari... you look a little... frazzled. Is everything cool?"

Colette hadn't even waited for Owen to tell her that he was on his way, she had just continued on her journey to his room and entered, hurried and not bothered at all by being alone in his space. If she wasn't thinking about having feelings for Owen or about Ariana, then it was easy to be his friend. And for him to be her friend. Which was exactly what she needed. And being friends meant that she could rifle through his closet, right? He needed help with clothes what better way for her to help than by actually looking through them. And no, Colette was not just a little distracted by his scent - after all, it didn't surround the room or anything, right? Nope, not distracted by that at all. So caught up with this internal dialogue, Colette physically jumped when she heard Owen speak from behind her. She bit her lip and paused in her perusing through his things, trying to calm herself down because honestly, she really should be a bit more composed.

After all, shouldn't it be a good thing that Shay and Ariana were not killing each other? Shouldn't she be happy that the one person she could never get rid of and the person she kept the closest to her heart were getting along? That they weren't shooting unnecessary insults and just...existing? Shouldn't she be still trying to avoid Owen, which meant not bringing her turmoil to him? "Cool? Is everything cool? Cool is sipping on a peach Sangria Popsicle underneath the shade of palm trees by the pool while everyone splashes around like it's not a thousand degrees. You want to know what's not cool? Your sister and your girlfriend in your sister's room acting like they are suddenly BFFs. What did you do?"

Colette's tone wasn't exactly accusing and she honestly didn't think there was anything to accuse Owen of. If he had, Shay would have asked Carson to leave with her. Hell, she would have stamped her feet, maybe hit her brother, and then ignored him pointedly for the duration of her party. She just...felt bothered. Not by the girls getting along...but...it was just something. And it wasn't anything she couldn't officially describe...and she was quick to tell Owen that and when she did speak, it definitely wasn't slow talking. "And I know, you might see it as fine. Hell, I should! But you don't know what it's like every day knowing when Ariana gets...like that...when she's pretending and you don't know what to expect from her because...God, anticipation. But now Shay's being like that and she's not normally like that and that freaks me out and you really should wear those blue Emilio Pucci shorts with a white button up shirt and what the hell is with me and Emilio Pucci today? And why did I let Shay convince me to come back here!?" Okay, so maybe Colette was having a miniature mental breakdown and might even rip the shorts in question if Owen didn't take them from her.

It was official. The summer was going to kill her. She should have stayed in New York where it would never be this hot and where she would have to deal with watered down alcohol, but now she was going to die in California when she should have stayed in New York. Wasn't that swell?

Tinashé didn't reply at first to what Ariana desired for her outfit for the day and instead, returned the item back to her closet, leaving the eldest Rockefeller alone in her room for a moment. And it literally was a moment because Ariana was suddenly there and it didn't frighten or intimidate her, but it definitely forced Shay to fully notice their status. The two were alone. Her and Owen's rooms weren't that far from each other, but there was still a considerable distance. Almost a wing, if one were being completely honest, and the two girls who everyone had been aware hated each other were very much alone. She was waiting for the moment where she felt the impulse to threaten Ariana, to actually lay some hands on that same girl she really didn't want in her house...and yet that moment never came. Shay didn't know if she was resigned to Ariana's presence or if she really had reached the point where she really did not care. Which was probably why it had been so easy for her to be nice.

Before, despite saying how much she didn't care, the truth of the matter was that she did. The more she reiterated the sentiment - the more she allowed it to linger on her brain - the more obvious it was, to herself and anyone who really knew her - the less value it actually held. And so now, as she rifled through the clothes Colette had brought to her closet for them to rifle through, the realization that she honestly did not care about Ariana Rockefeller at all was as relieving as it was comical. Comical for reasons she couldn't put into words, relieving because...the more someone had that kind of power of you, the worst you felt. And Shay did not have it in her to feel bad because of one unwelcome guest. Shay recognized the Guess dresses and pulled out a multicolored one, a mostly purple item, a stunning purple maxi, and a probably body-hugging blue number. She handed them to Ariana while answering, "I kinda like the maxi one, for the record. It's sensual in the sense that it's cut out on the sides, but elegant because it's so flowy. But it's your choice. And I honestly don't know what Carson's wearing. I was never really big on matching too much with boyfriends. Your style is your style, that's got nothing to do with me." She refused to add that other than Carson, she hadn't honestly thought about real boyfriends in a long time. Shay had focused too much on her career to be worried about one and she wondered, faintly, if there was more that she needed to be doing.

The dresses she had showed Ariana might not have been sensual enough for the Rockefeller, but mostly because Shay didn't make it a habit to know what Ariana liked. She figured the girl was prim and proper so much that it would be impossible to figure that Shay's sensual was the same as hers. Each dress had something different and head-turning about it, so Ariana could do with them as she pleased. It was when Ariana turned the inquiries more intimately prying questions that Shay paused and turned to stare at her, their gazes meeting. The grin on Ariana's face made Shay grin and she honestly felt like lying just to give Ariana something to guffaw over but what fell out of her mouth was, "This really throws you off, huh?" Her own question made Shay chuckle a bit and she bit her lower lip to not full out laugh. But her gaze never did leave Ariana's. "Me playing your game? Smiling daggers and pretending? It's kinda funny really, but...let's be clear, if there was something for you to be anxious or suspicious about, you'd know it. Like I told you, I'm not the same little girl from before. I won't pretend, but I'm not about to spend my summer reminding you I hate you. There's too fun of a party happening and not enough mojitos in the world to convince me to keep that up." Without really bothering to continue her search through Colette's clothing items, Shay left her closet to go perch herself on her bed, pulling her phone out of her pocket.

"And, if you're really curious, I haven't slept with him yet," Shay also supplied coolly, an eyebrow raised at the text sent by Alexandra. Apologize for what? Slapping the good Lord and savior into her spirit and hoping that it sticks? Nope, not something Shay needed to feel apologetic for. "Not that I haven't wanted to or can't...I just...know that I don't have to." The thought made her smile in the midst of texting Carson and she added, without feeling like she needed to keep it from Ariana, "That...that feels kinda nice."

Alexandra was still bothered by how annoying Christopher had been that morning, so despite being bored and having nothing to do until the party started, she refused to text him. She spent the next few minutes trying to validate how dramatic she was being, by reminding herself that he was clearly siding with Shay, despite knowing that she had gotten with Carson wrongly, and had just hit Alexa "for no reason"! It wasn't like the sisters never fought before, and it would be a lie to say that Alexandra hadn't ever hit Shay before too, but she wanted to believe that this was different. This was Shay being aggressive for no reason, and embarrassing her in front of their guests. Or at least Colette. This was Shay thinking that she was so cool, and so much better than her, and always getting away with the same things that would get Alexandra crucified. She failed to acknowledge the age difference, maturity level, and fact that Tinashé was out doing something productive with her life most of the time, but regardless, it wasn't fair, and it was even more unfair for Chris to take Shay's side. He was supposed to be her friend, but obviously a few months in Europe with her slutty sister had changed that.

To: Shay
Wow....... kk..... just watch your back then

What Shay had to watch her back for was unknown to by even Lex at this point, but she couldn't believe that her sister was going to use her bratty comeback against her like that. And to think that Lex was even going to be willing to forgive her if she had apologized! Completely ridiculous! In an attempt to get her mind off of it, and to prevent herself from sending a longer text, she browsed social media and texted her stylist that she needed a hair appointment for the following day. She had various texts that had gone unanswered, most regarding her sister's party and other parties going on in the area. While many of her friends were questioning whether they were getting an invite, she was currently more interested in scoping out the other parties going on in the area. She liked her orange dress, but now that Shay was obviously going to be a bitch all night, Lex was feeling patriotic.

To: Chris
If you don't come with me wherever I go later, we're just not friends anymore

Alexa was probably mad at him, but Christopher wasn't too worried about it. He didn't take most things seriously, and Alexandra throwing one of her very common bitch fits wasn't going to be enough to change that about him. Besides, he knew that he didn't do anything wrong. She could mope all she wanted about him being friends with Shay, but he was friends with her before this little fight between the sisters. Hell, he had just spent two months traveling through Europe with her! Alexandra was very clearly living in some delusional, fantasy world if she seriously believed that he was petty enough to just sever his ties with Shay too, all because Lex had been a brat to her sister. That wasn't to say that Chris was abandoning Lex either, but he just wanted to stay out of the fight. He had no qualms with poking fun at both sisters about them feuding, but he wasn't going to seriously get involved. He had enough experience with his own sisters' constant fighting to know that it was better to let them hash it out themselves.

Rather than chase her up to her room, where he speculated she had went, Chris headed to the guest bedroom he was calling his own. Flying to New York and back in a span of twenty-four hours was draining, to say the least, but he was never one to crash before the party even started. If it came to it, he knew that he still had a few tabs of ecstasy buried in one of his bags, and that would surely wake him up. With his sisters both being present though, Chris decided to use that as a last ditch resort. First, he figured that taking a long shower would help him, and after over twenty minutes in the hot water, he did step out feeling refreshed. Next was what he was supposed to wear. Shay's response to his text was no use. He knew he couldn't wear red, white and blue, but that didn't do much help in figuring out what he could wear. Defying his laziness, he did a quick search of the colors as he simultaneously sifted through the clothes he had brought. He didn't know where he had gotten it, but when he found the pair of swim trunks, he knew that had to be his attire for the evening. At least until one of his sisters murdered him.

To: Alexa
As long as it's a pool party, I'm there

He responded to Alexandra's text with a selfie of him in his outfit, if the tiny swimsuit could even be considered that, and then headed out of his bedroom. "Yo, Shay," he called obnoxiously when he stopped in front of her closed bedroom door. A few quick knocks on the door, and Chris was letting himself in. Needless to say, Ariana was the absolute last person he expected to find in that bedroom. Maybe Carson and Shay getting it on, Shay strangling Lex, or rolling her eyes at Colette's antics... but Ari? What the fuck was this about? Whether he should have been or not, Christopher was used to being obnoxious enough around his sisters to not feel weird about his skimpy attire in front of Ari. In fact, despite seeing her there and still being immensely confused about whatever this duo was doing together, he walked in with a grin on his face. "So I took your advice and looked up your party colors, and I decided to go with sloth and envy. You know, because everyone thinks I'm lazy, and because everyone's jealous of how fucking awesome my body looks when it's not being trapped underneath clothes." Okay, maybe being dressed like this around his older, stick-up-her-ass, sister was a little bit awkward, but Chris just decided to restrict eye contact. At least then he wouldn't have to witness her head bursting into flames when she reacted to him. "And just in case, do you think that if shit hits the fan after I bang your sister tonight, you'll cover for me by saying I'm your boyfriend to Owen too?" He was being playful; he had been the one, less than an hour before, to defend Shay's relationship with Carson to Lex, but it wasn't infrequent that Chris went a little overboard with his sense of humor...

Just the way that Shay spoke, and what she said, made it clear that she wasn't the same girl that Ariana grew up with, but it was too difficult for Ari to just accept that. She didn't like giving up control, and the power she had always had over Owen's sister was something that she was counting on this summer. "I wouldn't say that it throws me off, but like you said, you don't seem like the kind of girl who likes to pretend. One day you're telling me you're going to physically assault me, and now you're welcoming me into your closet. It's just--" This version of Shay was definitely throwing Ariana off, but obvious or not, she wasn't going to admit it. She would just reason her way out and explain to Shay that it was weird for some reason that didn't make her seem like the vulnerable one. As she spoke, she ran her fingers over the purple maxi dress that Shay had pulled from the closet, debating whether she should admit that at least on this decision,t they had similar tastes. She couldn't get to that, or even finish her sentence though, because within seconds, Christopher's voice and knocking on the door had translated into him standing feet away whether nothing but the tiniest and tightest male bathing suit she had ever seen. It was basically a speedo, and seeing her little brother out on display like that was sickening. Not to mention how obnoxious, disrespectful and completely tasteless his words were.

"Oh my God! Christopher, are you out of your mind?!" Ariana was too frazzled to even realize how much she probably sounded like her own mother in that exclamation. She was never okay with Chris being so offensive, but, whether she liked Shay or not, she couldn't believe that even he was okay with talking about her sister and her relationship with Carson right to her. Maybe Tinashé's sense of humor was just as classless and she wouldn't get as offended as Ariana had, but that didn't matter. She didn't want her brother, someone who she would always be associated with, thinking that this was okay. It was one thing to talk like that to Colette, or someone inside of their family, but doing it in public was very different. It was possible that she was pulling a Colette and being dramatic, but this was always defying one of Ari's most notable qualities: being prim and proper.

Chris was only an inch less than being a foot taller than her, but Ariana brought him closer to his height when she grabbed him by his ear and yanked his head downward. "You are absolutely disgusting. I have no idea where you learned to speak like that but I will not stand for my brother acting like he belongs in a trailer park. Go put on clothes right now, or I swear to God..." She left her threat unfinished, not because she wasn't going to do nothing if he didn't comply, but because she was used to her siblings just complying right away.

IHaving sisters of his own meant that Owen was used to bursts of emotion that ended in speech so fast he could barely process the words, but neither of his sisters could compare to Colette in that realm. She was, as Ariana would put it, dramatic but Owen found it to be entertaining and secretly endearing, rather than bothersome. In some way, it was cute how she got all wound up over nothing. Though his eyes still twinkled with amusement, he felt bad enough that he almost wanted to offer her the dime bag he had stored away in a box in the back of his closet, but while she wasn't quite as proper as Ari, Owen doubted she'd approve. Hell, he didn't even approve of himself doing it, so admitting to doing so and offering her some was probably out of the question for now. Besides, he already had a problem on hand to deal with, and didn't need another one, because while Colette was known (at least through what he heard from Ari) for getting worked up over absolutely nothing, this wasn't nothing.

Ariana and Shay acting like BFFs in Shay's room? That deserved Colette's mile-a-minute rant in which she danced between the true topic of it, what he should wear, and how she wished she was back in New York, in only a matter of seconds. He couldn't even imagine why or how the two of them would end up alone in Tinashé's room of all places. Shay was the girl who hated Ariana's guts, and Ariana was the girl who was calling Shay ghetto and accusing her of threatening to murder her. Why they were apparently in a room together willingly was beyond him, but in Shay's bedroom of all places was even stranger. It wasn't like they had run into each other in the kitchen or out by the pool, places that could be considered neutral territory for the summer. This was Shay's most intimate space, and Owen wondered if its walls were already splattered with blood. Whoa, whoa, calm down," he said, gently pulling the shorts away from her and tossing them across the room to his bed. He took her hands in an attempt to grab her attention, but ended up losing his own focus for a moment as he was distracted with how soft her hands felt.

"You're telling me that my sister and your sister are in a room together? Alone? On their own will? And they aren't trying to kill each other?" The words sounded strange coming out of his mouth, but he really didn't think something like that could ever happen. It even took him a moment to process the thought, but after a few seconds, he shrugged. "I agree that it's weird and you're probably right that it's not genuine, but shouldn't we just enjoy this moment of peace? I know you don't think I know how Ari gets, but I've seen a little bit of that side of her too, and honestly, Shay isn't that different in that respect." That wasn't exactly true. Shay was more transparent than Ariana was, because when she got pissed, she rarely hesitated to say something to the offender's face, or physically act on it. Really, Owen was just living in his own world too much to notice it when he was the one offending Shay. Still, he knew that Shay could play games like Ariana could, and maybe he was downplaying how well Ariana could shut off her feelings and then turn them on whenever she wanted, to seek revenge, too.

He released her hand when he realized that he had been rubbing the back of it with his thumb, and headed into his closet as he spoke to her. "I say you try to make this night even better than whatever your fantasy of being poolside, snacking on your Sangria-whatever-it-is was. It can't be that hard, since in reality, you'll get to hang out with me all night," he grinned, reappearing from the back of the closet shirtless, before he pulled on a white shirt and began to button it. "Seriously though, I don't think there will be any problems tonight. I'll put on my perfect outfit, hopefully Ariana will think it's as great as Crazy Colette does, we'll get some drinks in you, and then you'll hang out with your sister and I, and will promise not to ditch me to chill with my sister and Carson. Sound like a plan?"

Tinashé paused in the middle of swiping through her phone when Ariana decided to respond, an eyebrow raised at the words Ariana chose. Perhaps she was right, Shay had been a bit inconsistent with her interactions with Ariana. It would throw anyone off, really. She had wanted to hate her without showing her that she cared, but that was not a goal she could accomplish. So, Shay had reassembled and found some semblance of peace - which, strange enough, consisted of exactly what she wanted without having to prove anything. It was simply proven by the nonchalant air she held towards the Rockefeller now that so much had happened, and she had the right mind to tell her just that when Chris came barging on into her room.

And Shay's mouth fell open.

While Ariana was absolutely mortified, Shay burst into laughing, barely even hearing him over the sound of her laughter. Not because she found Chris unattractive because he did look good, but he knew what he was doing with those shorts. He was trying to get a reaction out of someone and he had to have known Ariana - of all people - was going to have the worst. Well, it was the best in Shay's opinion, she had decided while clutching her stomach and raising her bright gaze to Christopher. "And as much as I am all for being real with yourself, put something else on before one of your sisters catches an aneurysm." A beat later, Shay caught the tail-end of what he had said. "And don't you dare put me in the middle of your episode of Sixteen and Pregnant. Owen's not murdering me in my sleep cuz you can't keep it in your pants."

Whenever Colette would find herself going into one of her long tirades or on a tangent, she had always been able to count on Shay to simply touch her shoulder and remind her to slow down. Sometimes Shay even touched her hands, forced her to share eye contact, and would literally soften her voice more than a good number of people had probably ever heard Shay speak. That didn't always work immediately, but after snapping at the artist or batting her hands away, Colette typically took a breath and tried to get through whatever the situation was. What she had not expected was for Owen to do the exact same thing...except...he was Owen and Owen was just really fucking tall for some odd reason. Not that that was some secret or conspiracy she hadn't been aware of, but now that Colette was back in her flats, it was...kinda obvious.

And distracting, very distracting. Or was it him rubbing the backs of her hands distracting? She couldn't tell at the moment. But she did manage to catch him asking her to repeat herself and Colette simply nodded, finding herself staring up at really blue eyes. This was why New York was safe, some part of her brain decided to interject, but Colette told it to go fuck itself. When Colette and Owen had simply been friends prior to his relationship with Ariana, her attraction to him hadn't been too thought-consuming. They were genuinely friends and she enjoyed him enough as an individual to not get distracted by how absolutely gorgeous Owen Collins was. Seriously, the family itself just had attractive people and he definitely fit the mold. But it had never affected her interactions with him too much. She had simply felt...comfortable.

However, prolonged distance and unexplained absence made it incredibly easy, for a little while, for Colette to pretend that Owen was just another ridiculously attractive model. Nothing special. She'd met guys like him, ones she could actually get her hands on. Who needed to be worried about Owen Collins when she had a golden-haired Adonis by her side at the MET gala? And like a fool, she had believed her own lies...until she found herself overwhelmed by feelings she really should have known had never gone away. And it was bad, at least in her mind since she refused to voice anything. So lost in her thoughts was she that she allowed Owen to convince her that it was fine, that this was peaceful and that it was all fine. Mostly because she wanted to believe it, but also she was actually a bit petrified over what she might say. Or do.

What in the hell prompted her to come to his room alone anyway?

Blinking to get herself back in order because, come on Collie this was fucking pathetic, Colette fought back a frown when Owen let go of her hands, but then pulled them to her hips as she tugged on her lower lip with her teeth. All of a sudden, dealing with Ariana and Shay sounded a hell of a lot safer than dealing with Owen right now. Getting drunk sounded great too, but the party hadn't started yet and she still needed to change. Luckily, his good mood rubbed off on her for just a moment and Colette offered Owen a small smile at the thought of them hanging out, trying to ignore the warning bells in her head that clearly stated: THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. ABORT MISSION. It also probably wasn't a good idea because Owen had moved faster than she had thought and emerged from the closet shirtless and there was a very well defined torso on display for longer than there should have been and Colette's mouth moved faster than her brain. "Damn," was what came out and Colette froze for a millisecond. Oh, fuck. "Right," she followed up quickly after, already backpedaling for the door because she really needed to save face and get the hell of Owen's room. "Damn right, we are hanging out. At the party. After...this. Bye." Not even waiting for a response, she left, face steadily growing pink.

No, she did not go to her room to get the Emilio Pucci ensemble Shay might have been talking about. If Ariana needed to steal something from Colette's closet like she always did, then she could walk herself right on in that room because Colette wasn't turning around...though, she definitely thought she should have when she saw her brother's back and the fact that his ass was being hugged way too comfortably in some spandex travesty. OH MY GOD, CHRIIIIIISSS!!" She yelled, trying to shield her eyes while managing to maneuver around him to get to the closet and find her clothes for the party. But not before inquiring saucily as this was a great distraction from whatever happened with her spirit earlier, "And where the hell did you get Magic Mike's Brady Brunch collection of speedos from? Craig's List?" She, however, couldn't help her own smirk when she heard Shay guffaw soon after.

In any other situation other than this, Carson wouldn't have had any doubt that Shay's party was going to turn out perfectly. She excelled at a lot of things, but putting together a really good party was one of the top things on that list. It wasn't surprisingly, really, considering how much experience she had in the partying field. Regardless, with the way that this summer was going, Carson honestly wouldn't have been surprised if something happened. If Alexandra poured antifreeze in their drinks, if Owen decided to toss his new outlook on his relationship with Shay out the window, if Ariana riled Shay or Colette up... there were a lot of possible scenarios that worried Carson. Things could either go really well and set a new tone for the summer, or go really poorly and have Shay on a plane to Dubai before the guests even left.

A couple of hours into the party, and surprisingly, things were going well. After little deliberation (because fashion wasn't really his thing), Carson had chosen green as his color, because a pair of green shorts were the first thing he saw in his closet. He matched it with a white button down shirt, whose sleeved had to be rolled up due to the California heat, and a pair of Sperry's boat shoes. He knew that he would hear about the lack of effort put into the outfit by someone, with that someone most likely being Colette, but it didn't bother him too much. There were guys like Owen who worked in that industry and knew how to dress well without a second thought, and then there were guys like him, who just... rolled with it.

While Carson hadn't seen much of Owen so far, he also hadn't seen much of Shay, or any of the others staying with the siblings for that matter. A few of his old fraternity brothers had shown up on the spur of the moment, and while Shay mingled with her friends, Carson had taken the time to hang out with them. They spent most of their time in the pool area, because Carson wasn't a good dancer. He knew that it wasn't just dancing going on inside, but at the same time, he knew there was at least some, and with a girlfriend who could dance so amazingly, he wasn't willing to risk embarrassing himself. Call it paranoid, but Carson didn't want Shay's music-industry friends to already brush him off as not being good enough for her. So, he stuck to what he knew for as long as it seemed reasonable. He didn't go crazy on the drinking, for a couple of reasons, with one of them being that he honestly was still a bit freaked out of his drunk self. If he had gotten so obliterated at one point, to have willingly slept with Lex, he didn't know what else he was capable of doing. There was no way that a sober Carson would cheat on Shay, but at the same time, there was no way that a sober Carson would sleep with the barely eighteen-year-old sister of his best friend. Getting blackout drunk wasn't appealing to him tonight anyway, even if his college friends seemed on the path of getting there.

"Alright, guys, I better go see what Shay's up to. Enjoy yourselves, I'll be back in a few," Carson eventually said. He didn't escape the crew before one of the guys, Tanner, yelled something about him already being whipped, but Carson didn't even look back. He was getting ready to shoot a text to Shay to ask where she was, because with the size of the home, it could take him an hour just to find her, but he didn't have to look far. He found her soon after entering the house, but he waited to approach her until she had finished speaking to the group she was with, and was turning away on her own. He caught her as she spun around and even while pressing his lips against hers, couldn't keep himself from grinning. "I didn't think envy really fit me when I picked out these shorts earlier, but damn, have I been jealous of everyone who has been hogging you all night," he whispered when he pulled away. It wasn't just some corny pickup line. He really had been, and as he inhaled the scent of her perfume, he leaned in again for another kiss before finally releasing her. For the first time, he wasn't even worrying about whether Owen was near or not.
