Malin is different. He is different from perhaps any other entity, and he is made fully aware of this.
Malin loves humans, and views them as the greatest thing Life possibly could have created. He loves the way they grow, the way they change, and the way they love. And when Life was sealed and everyone quickly chose sides, Malin was made fiercely aware of just how strange that was.
He doesn't collect souls like the others, finding it a gross invasion of human privacy. He would much rather simply allow the humans to go free in Cherry's Afterlife, or leave them with his grandmother Maria in her in-between realm where he knows they'll be safe.
After all the years of what can basically be amounted to bullying, Malin became more and more harsh and quiet, preferring to keep to himself and turn his back on his family. He spends most of his time watching the humans and ignoring any orders his parents might give him, no matter how much they may think they know what's best. Malin knows what's best for the humans, and that's getting Life back. And he'll stop at absolutely nothing to figure out how to achieve that goal.

Family Relations: Son of Ludovica and Alfonso; Half-brother of Ingris, Shoe, Niven, and Ludovica; Grandson of Xenos, Death, Alfonso, and Maria; Nephew of Bennie
To Malin, family was once a precious thing.
He valued both his mother and his father and loved them dearly, wishing only to do what would please them. This was his family, and they would love him the way he wanted to be loved.
And then Malin learned the truth.
His parents were father and daughter, and his mother soon ran off and had children with two separate other men. The family unit Malin wanted to created was broken when his half-sister was sealed by his grandfather, and he began working out all of the intimate details of his family web. Distraught, Malin went to visit humanity, hoping to prove that this was just something normal.
What he found was completely different. Families of humans on earth were sacred; they didn't sully themselves with incest and pedophilia. They were one mother, one father, and their children (with some variations), and the beauty of this touched Malin's heart so deeply that he fell completely in love with humanity.
Upon telling his mother and father of his discovery, however, Malin was brushed off with an insistence of, βIt's a phase, dear, it'll wear off.β
It never did.
For yearsβcenturiesβMalin continued to spend time amongst the humans, visiting with their kind and learning of their culture. With each trait and custom he uncovered, he became more and more appreciative of humanity and more and more disillusioned with his own people.
So when he found out Life had been sealed in a human body and the humans were dying out rapidly without her, he decided he had to find where she'd gone and break her out of the seal, even if it meant rebelling against his grandfather Xenos.
Life had to be found, and the humans had to be protected. Even if his parents didn't understand why.
