Appearance: Austen is incredibly conscious of how she looks, always striving to look perfect. Her hair is naturally a light blond that falls in messy waves to just below her shoulders. It's low maintenance, though Austen loves to tease it a bit in the morning. It's more than often down, seeing as it frames her face in a nice way, but Austen does love to put it up. Her eyes are a captivating mixture of brown and gold, with a mystery lurking behind them. She has high, pronounced cheek bones that add a bit of elegance to her. A splattering of light freckles litter the bridge of her nose, much to her disdain.
Unhappy with her pale skin, Austen tried tanning once and ended up with awful red blisters. Ever since then, she's been forced to accept her milky complexion and instead focused on keeping it clean, glowing and soft. Though more on the tall side, her hands and feet are rather small, something she continually vexes over. However, she's quite pleased with her long legs and fit body.
Due to her power, Austen must wear clothes that cover as much skin as possible. She tends to wear jeans, but does wear varying kinds, from patterned, floral, normal denim...etc. Long sleeves are the only type of top she wears, but again, she has an array of different kinds. From thick sweaters, to button down chiffon.
Her feet are generally enclosed in boots, and her hands are always, always, inside a pair of skin tight, black, leather gloves. Austen generally wears a good amount of make-up consisting of foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow, winged eye liner and mascara. She also likes to wear bright colors on her lips, especially red.
Disruption: Austen never truly used her powers. After having accidentally used them as a child, her parents kept her completely covered at all times, telling her to never use her abilities. Young Austen did as they said and never used them. However, after a particularly hard day she had an explosive fight with her parents and fled to the nearby woods. Out of spite, she wanted to try and use her powers, to see what she was truly capable of. Everything went sideways, and Austen ending up killing a large patch of the forest. Appalled at what she'd done, she'd ran, aging and killing more plants in her frenzied haste. As soon as people realized what had happened, authorities were called and she was sent away and locked up.
Power: Austen was born with the power to age any living organism (from an apple to a human being) simply by making contact with her skin. The power is not controllable, as far as Austen is aware. It simply happens, whether she wants it to or not. When the power is used, her skin shimmers a pale gold, enveloping her entire body in a warm glow. She is capable of aging anything as long as it is made up of living cells, though the smaller the object, the less energy it takes to age it. It takes roughly fifteen seconds to age a year. Austen would be able to kill a person of eighteen in a matter of minutes. However, anywhere upwards of fifteen years, she begins to get fatigued.
Strengths: Intelligence - Austen spent most of her childhood with her nose buried in a book. Her father, a college professor, imparted his love of learning onto his daughter and she loved it as much as he did. Inhaling every book she came into contact with, Austen's intelligence rose quickly. By the time she was in high school, nothing challenged her and the kids ridiculed her relentlessly, and so she was pulled out of school. Being taught at home fit her well, and she spent a lot of time gaining more knowledge. Fitness - With a lot of time on her hands, Austen also devoted a lot of herself towards working out. She's now incredibly fit and possesses a strength at odds with her age.
Weaknesses: Socially inadequate - Due to her power and the steps she must take to prevent it, Austen suffered through ridicule from a very young age. Some were afraid of her, others believed her an abomination; either way, she wasn't accepted. This led to her lacking in almost any social interactions. She's unaware of how to properly carry on a conversation and balks at simple acts such as asking for directions or ordering food. Over thinking - Austen is awful under stress, and tends to over think everything. She finds it impossible to stop thinking and just...do. It often poses problems in everyday life and in more serious activities.
Personality: Austen is a shy girl, not particularly enjoying being around people. Which suits her lifestyle, seeing as people don't enjoy being around her. However, she is kind, generally putting everyone above herself. She's noble, loyal and selfless. Austen bases her entire life around her morals, following them strictly. She hardly ever lies, unless it's in the best interest in the current situation. Other wise, she tends to tell it as it is. However, she does try to soften it, if it's hurtful.
As a result of being ridiculed nearly her whole life, Austen is constantly aware of what she looks like, trying to project herself as a beautiful young woman who doesn't give a damn. Though she is painfully worried of what others think of her, constantly trying to please everyone. This can be at odds with her commitment to always tell the truth and can lead to her not speaking a single word, afraid of saying the wrong thing.
Austen's deepest desire is to be rid of her power and to be free. To have people like her for who she is, to not worry about other's opinion of herself. With such a dream impossible, she simply tries to ignore the outside world, existing only in her mind and her little pocket of reality.
Likes: Reading, learning, nature, being kind, quiet and cleanliness.
Dislikes: The dark, crowds, talking to people, stupidity, messes and being locked up.
Bio: Austen's mother was born super human, her ability being able to breathe underwater. This led to a lifelong love of the ocean and a passion for surfing. However, she wasn't allowed to enter any competitions as her power was seen as an unfair advantage. The power would lead to something much better, though; her husband. He crashed over a bridge into a freezing lake and would have died, had Austen's mom not jumped in after him. One thing led to another and they were married with a daughter.
When Austen was born, her skin was shimmering an odd gold color. Had the doctor not put her down so quickly, there's no telling how many years the infant could have taken from him. As soon as they realized what their daughter could do, they swaddled her in blankets and left. The young family relocated to a small town that bordered a large forest, buying a home that sat near the edge of the trees. Life was difficult for young Austen, always staying covered in clothing even during hot summer days, being mercilessly teased.
Afraid to give another child such a difficult life, the Goodwins never had another child, but their small family was happy. Austen and her father got on wonderfully, always talking about their favorite books and new things they had learned. Though it wasn't entirely enjoyable at times, Austen had a simple little life that she got along quite well in. Up until the day of the incident, that is.
