Description: Derek has always been on the taller and leaner side. He is long and a little lanky, with shaggy, sandy brown hair and steely gray-blue eyes. His features are more soft than prominent, but he does have a square jaw and a full, ripe red mouth which he uses to sing. He has many tattoos, most of which are quite recent, and they all boast of his childhood as well as his love for music. He prefers to dress for comfort rather than style, which is a solid and very opposite contrast to his lover, Evie. On colder days he wears his favorite leather jacket and boots, but other than that he maintains an average looking appearance. When he takes his girlfriend out, however, he likes to clean up and does so rather well. His cream colored complexion is peppered with dark hair and a casual but not rare pink flush when Evie is around. He is most commonly seen wearing one of his father's old band t-shirts with names like Led Zeppelin or the Doors emblazoned on the front.
Personality: Derek is one of those strong and silent types. Though he has a few friends, he prefers to remain alone or with his girlfriend, with whom he is unbelievably enamored. He is very musically inclined; he plays guitar, piano and drums, all self taught, and dabbles a bit in singing as well as writing all of his music. Most of his pieces have been written to suit Evie's vocal talents, but his lyrics are purely original. At times he can be a bit snarky and sarcastic, but he is generally very good natured and kindhearted. He is also exceptionally patient and holds his tongue rather well when he is upset. He has a calmer, more homedwelling spirit than that of his adventurous girlfriend, but he does get bored very easily and is almost never impressed. He is very much a passionate lover and generous caregiver to Evie, and he is not afraid to make his affections known.
History: As a child growing up in a heavily Irish-American family, Derek was surrounded by beer drinking, musical fight lovers. His father encouraged him to pursue a career as a boxer, often taking him to the neighborhood ring where the local fighters trained. Derek did enjoy it, and when his mother informed him that his father wanted a divorce when he was thirteen, Derek took his boxing techniques to a whole new level. He began drinking with his friends, stealing from stores, and getting into fights with kids at school. For years, Derek's drinking progressed into borderline alcoholism, until one day he was expelled from his third junior high school. He and his mother then moved to Redwood, where he began attending the high school Evie went to. They met and almost instantly Derek fell in love, abandoning his gloves and instead picking up a guitar, which he discovered he was quite good at. To this day he has not spoken to his father but remains very close to his mother. They live in a small apartment in the city, where he works part time at a hardware store after school and plays gigs at local bars at night.
