Akira Tomoko

"I'm just here to find supernatural beings and have some fun!"

a character in “Supernaturals Anonymous”, as played by Tsukiakari

Description

Image
Name: Akira Karasuno Tomoko. She's changed her name from Japanese fashion to English after emigrating. Her name could mean either "Bright, Beautiful Raven Girl" or "Cheerful Raven Pal," depending on what characters you used.
Gender: Female
Age: 254 - appears 18.
Race: Lesser Tengu
Appearance: Akira stands at a total height of about five feet five inches, and, with a slender physique, short arms, and long, lean legs, she doesn't look all that imposing. She has narrow shoulders, a flat stomach, an average figure and a somewhat childish appearance caused by the almost entirely unmarred, smooth texture of her slightly tanned skin, which is why she looks a little young to be in college. Her eyes are a rather unusual shade of orange-red, even in Human form, which makes her somewhat of an enigma, although she explains her unusual eyes by saying she has to wear contact lenses, and just chose something interesting for the hell of it. Her nose (Funnily enough, given Tengu are renowned for having giant noses), chin, and ears are all rather petite, causing her eyes and shoulder-length, somewhat unkempt raven hair to be her most prominent features. When in her supernatural Tengu persona, she sprouts black-feathered wings with a total wingspan of about nine feet, and puts on a small cap traditionally worn by wandering monks - just to maintain appearances, given that the outfit was also commonly shown worn by Tengu.

Her usual outfit consists of a simple white blouse with a black ribbon at the collar, and an equally simple black skirt and thigh-high black socks, topped off with featureless black sneakers.
Forms: Human form and Tengu form, the only difference between the two being that in the latter she has wings and a priest's cap, and in the former she does not.
Main Power: Spiritual energy manifestation and control. She uses this power to control the wind by manifesting spiritual energy to move it for her. Note that she can only control the wind by first encasing it in spiritual energy and then moving that, as though she was making a balloon and moving the air inside it by moving it. This usually takes the form of her weapons of choice, Tentou and Makai - the Issen Shirosakuraken. These two swords are created by solidifying the air itself by compressing it as much as possible, and coating it in a blade of spiritual energy. They are razor sharp, can be reformed if broken - at an expense of Akira's power, of course - and release a miniature storm of small white cherry blossoms with each swing. These blossoms are, in fact, particles of spiritual energy, and can cut like blades, causing the swords to have a much greater range than it seems - as though the very wind is cutting outward. A side effect of this power over spiritual energy is that Akira can use her cherry blossoms as though they were physical objects - such as jumping off of them, using them to carry things remotely, etcetera. This power has both uses in self-defense and in more mundane matters.
Secondary Power: Incredible speed and the ability to fly, both through using her wings. When in Human form, obviously, these are impossible.
Personality: Incredibly enthusiastic and energetic. Akira is a helpful big sister type figure to her friends, and, through her recklessness, usually ends up dragging them into trouble. She loves action, and one of her main goals in finding other supernatural beings is so she can have interesting new sparring partners. Despite this, she's much wiser than she appears, and can be serious if need be. All around, she's a loyal, rambunctious friend.

On an interesting side note, she is firmly convinced that she is a ninja - a group of warriors Tengu such as herself were renowned for training. While she is incredibly fast and capable of using mysterious arcane powers, however, she doesn't exactly fit the requirement of being inconspicuous.
Fears: Losing her friends, being alone, and, ironically enough, ghosts and youkai.
Weakness: While she is lightning fast and capable of dishing out the pain to those she fights, she has a very fragile internal structure, given that she's part bird. Her bones are hollow, and she has air sacs near her lungs which, if popped, would explode and kill her.
Occupation: She is both cook and waitress at a small high-class cafe. She also runs an incredibly lucrative lawn-mowing business, using her wind powers to clip the grass and remove it from the yard in a single cut of her swords.
Likes: Fighting, hanging out with her friends, flying, cooking, reading books, singing, and kendo - the last two of which she is incredibly good at.
Dislikes: Being alone, having nothing to do, loud people, people who touch her feathers, ghosts.
Equipment: Tentou and Makai. Incidentally, Tentou is the white one and Makai is the purple one.
Do you have living family members? If so who are they?: None.
If you have living family members do they know you are a supernatural being?: None.
Where are you from?: Akira hails from Japan, as you might have guessed.
Brief Background: The young Tengu has a somewhat interesting past. Her mother was the daughter of the captain of an American trade ship, and was frequently taken along with him on his various voyages. During an ill-fated trading venture, a storm caught up their ship and capsized it off the coast of Hokkaido. None survived, save Akira's mother, Alice, who was rescued from the sea by a Tengu who happened to be flying over the water at the time. The ship's sinking had actually been caused by a powerful Ayakashi, who the Tengu - Kurotori - killed, rescuing Alice from the wreck and carrying her back to his home mountain. Alice was a courageous, adventurous, tomboyish young woman, and Kurotori, a rather lighthearted, outgoing person, took a liking to her immediately. Alice was fascinated with the supernatural world of ghosts and youkai, and the two quickly became fast friends. After a long companionship, they decided to marry, and soon bore their daughter, Akira who, due to Kurotori's high level of power, was essentially fully Tengu, if a lesser one than himself.

Akira, blessed with nigh-eternal youth thanks to her supernatural heritage, outlived her kind mother, although the two were very close, causing Alice's fiery personality to rub off on Akira. During her youth, Kurotori taught her how to control her spiritual powers, as well as how to fight, and she was almost constantly seeking someone to spar with, given how enjoyable fighting was to her.

During this time, a Hyakki Yako - or Night Parade of a Hundred Demons - had moved into the area, either chasing out or ruling over the Youkai of that region. Kurotori and Alice were, quite simply, bored, and so decided to join this Hyakki Yako so they would have the opportunity to test themselves side by side in battle. For several years, they fought with various other night parades, conquering almost all of the region of Hokkaido and making the Youkai there submit and join them. Kurotori was one of the most loyal subordinates of the leader of their Hyakki Yako and, following his death in battle, assumed command himself, making Alice his lieutenant. Together, they soon conquered almost the entirety of the Youkai population of Japan, setting up their Demon capital in Kyoto.

Alas. It was not to be. An uprising occurred amongst the most powerful members of the Night Parade, and Kurotori was assassinated, dying to protect his daughter from capture. Akira escaped with her life, and, grieved by the loss of her mother to time and her father to treacherous ghosts and demons, swore off the world of Youkai, moving halfway across the world to America and forever leaving behind the unearthly empire she had helped build and maintain.

Finally, after many years of random scavenging to survive, Akira decided to learn to integrate herself into the Human world. So, she stole books, and began to study Human customs and knowledge. She had all the time in the world, and so she eventually went to college. She had thought the world of Youkai was the only supernatural world that existed. To her surprise, however, she soon encountered a Vampire named Cedric, befriending him and eventually revealing her true nature to him. When he suggested that they found a club devoted to all things supernatural, Akira decided it was high time she accepted who she really was, and agreed.
Orientation: Straight.
Crush: None yet. Her ideal guy would be someone fun-loving and laid back who would always be there by her side, doing what she did. She has kind of a soft spot for sweet compliments and gestures, though, so a romantic would do as well.
Favorite Foods: Melonpan, Crepes, and hamburgers.
How did you find out about the club?: She helped found it, alongside Cedric.
Do you want the supernatural beings exposed?: She honestly doesn't really care. She isn't exactly afraid of Humans, and living on the lam might provide something interesting to do. On the other hand, it would also be kind of lonely, and she wouldn't have any time to do the things she wanted, which would bug her to no end.

So begins...

(Forgive the slight godmodding, but I was assuming they knew each other, so I'm just going with that.)

"Hey Mr. Gloomy, you know you're not exactly invisible back here. You should really drop the creepy grin and the shades, or else when people start showing up, they might think there's some kind of Vampire hiding in the back room and run away," A chipper voice said from directly behind the curtains of the window as Cedric seated himself, likely awakening him just before he could drift off to sleep. A pair of wings were spread wide, silhouetted against the curtains as they slowly folded themselves up and faded into the back of a Humanoid shape that appeared, sitting on the now open windowsill of the Vampire's refuge.

"Ah, damn. Turning into a crow always makes me so stiff. Why couldn't you just leave the door open for once?" Akira asked, hopping down from her perch and slipping under the curtains, closing the window behind her. The Tengu strolled into the room, stretching her arms with a slight groan. She hadn't known Cedric's true nature for very long, nor had he known of her heritage for any significant duration. Despite this, he was one of the few people she trusted. She had first known him as a Human, and vice versa, and when through coincidence they had uncovered each others' lineage, she knew that he could be believed in.

She could still remember her surprise when she had accidentally stumbled into a dream of his, a recollection of the night he became a Vampire. She couldn't control her own abilities as a Tengu, given that most of them were those of a Greater Tengu like her father, when she had only inherited enough of his power to warrant the title of lesser Tengu. Most of those powers were entirely beyond her, which was why she frequently found herself walking into the dreams of others without meaning to. The night she had stumbled upon Cedric's memories had been no exception. Excited by the revelation of his true nature as a Vampire, she had immediately presented herself in Tengu form, both in the dream and in the early morning afterward. She didn't think he had trusted him at first, but she was confident that they'd managed to resolve things. After all, if they hadn't, he wouldn't have told her about exactly what he intended to do with this whole convention scheme of his.

"So, how's our evil mastermind of doom? Is everything proceeding according to your carefully laid schemes?" Akira asked jokingly, giving a sly grin as she snatched a chair from a small stack in the corner of the room, seating herself backwards on it, folding her arms on the back of the chair and setting down her head on her hands, giving a manic grin as she turned her jovial gaze upon the sleepy Vampire seated across from her.

Cedric’s stone grey eyes shot open at the sound of his friend’s voice. They didn’t look happy, probably because he wasn’t. Not at all. He hated being woken up. It was even worse when he had just started to drift off to sleep, or death as he liked to call it. “I know I am not invisible, I was just checking on how things are going, and if my band is out there. Plus people already know that I have a ‘sun allergy’ so they wouldn’t be too startled to see me back here.” His voice was gruff and tinted with anger. For the most part Cedric Jackson wasn’t a pleasant guy, not even towards his friends. But I wasn’t exactly his fault. He had lived for around three hundred years, he had given up on being polite long ago.

Cedric raised an eyebrow at Akira as her wings disappeared into her back, waiting for a moment before saying “You do know that you aren’t invisible either right? If someone saw that you could be in grave danger. Unless you could explain it way, sometimes the shee---humans can be very dense. But it is important to try to keep hidden around them all the same.” He said, rubbing his hands together before grabbing his bag that was tucked in the corner. “And don’t talk to me about being stiff, try sleeping in a coffin. They aren’t really built for the living.” The vampire said before pulling out some make up, he himself had to get ready for the convention, and that meant putting on the make-up he wore when he sang on stage. “And I didn’t leave the door open because I wanted to catch some rest before the convention started. I have spent a long time trying to get this thing set up and look legitimate. I will not have it ruined. Plus if it was urgent I assumed you would find some way of contacting me, such as entering my dreams without my constant. Again.” The young man said as he applied the make-up. He was going for a gothic feel, easy enough for him considering his looks. The hard part was figuring out how he looked without being able to see himself in the mirror.

But again the vampire was referring to how they found out that neither of them was human. She had invaded a very private dream, if she meant to invade or not he didn’t care. It was one of the few things that he hadn’t quite forgiven her for. That dream of how he turned into what he was
it wasn’t romantic, it wasn’t pretty. It was the memory of the brutal memory of his family and his death and rebirth. It was sacred to him. She had told him in the dream that she was a tengu, and then again told him when the sun went up.

He hadn’t trusted her at first. Despised her even for the intrusion. But as time passed he decided that there may be more people like them out there, more unhumans. And they would need to find each other, to help each other if needed, but mainly so they wouldn’t feel like they were helpless against the sheep.

So, one supernatural being to another they had formed an alliance of sorts, and he told her about the convention. It was a simple enough plan, to draw out the outcasts and the ones who felt alone. Make them feel like they could be themselves. It wasn’t a perfect plan, but it was a start.

“So far so good, night should be falling soon. And then those who come will come. We can monitor how they act around each other, maybe get a few to sign up for the book club and learn more there.” He put away his make-up and looked at Akira. “How do I look? It isn’t smeared is it? I swear it is a pain to put this on, but the crowd expects it.”

"Well, aren't you grumpy? Anyway, I was a crow until I reached the window, and I flew two circuits around the back lot to make sure nobody was there, so there's nothing to worry about. And I told you before, that was an accident. I probably couldn't do it again even if I wanted to, so forgive and forget already, okay? Anyway, is the whole sleeping in a coffin thing really necessary? I understand you have a reputation to uphold and all, but it seems kinda stupid to me." After these rather sarcastic comments, the Tengu lapsed into silence, watching with a catlike grin as the Vampire pruned himself, as she liked to call it jokingly.

"Your maquillage is impeccable, although I still fail to see the reasoning behind your constant over usage of cosmetics. While maybe you enjoy looking like a demented clown from hell, the whole 'sucks peoples' blood' and 'sleeps in a coffin' part was creepy enough for me as it is, Count Dracula," The chipper Tengu said, grinning as she continued directing her rather unnerving grin at the Vampire.

"On another note, why do you keep referring to people as 'sheep?' It's kinda confusing. Besides, I thought you Vampires were supposed to go on about 'miserable little piles of secrets,' and break wine glasses for no explicable reason. Sheep are cute little fluffy things that waddle around making benign little 'baaaaa' noises. That is not the image a fearsome Vampire wants to present. And speaking of your image, you need a cape! One of those big, high-collared opera capes. The whole goth look just doesn't go with 'big, scary Vampire.' Right now, you look more like you let your own blood than steal other people's," The Tengu babbled cheerfully, essentially just saying whatever came to mind, resulting in a gleefully uncaring stream of consciousness monologue that would have made a hyperactive child proud. The sad thing was how quickly a pop-culture reference got mixed into the whole mess. Generally, when one talked about a Tengu, they didn't imagine such an... otaku, for lack of a better word. Still, one could easily make the case that Akira Tomoko was by no means an ordinary anything, least of all a normal Tengu.

"Geez. Someone needs to tone down the melodrama and enjoy life a bit," Akira said rather irritably, scratching her head as her overemotional bloodsucking friend stormed out of the room. She sighed, plopping down in a comfortable chair in the corner of the room and glancing boredly out the window. The convention was getting started, so she supposed there was no point in skulking around in a dark corner. She was tired of doing nothing so, hopping up, she headed out, glancing around at the now crowded hall. To her dismay, however, there were still precious few booths even remotely related to her favoritest of favorite types of media - anime. Mostly there were various different stalls about tv shows, video games, the occasional comic or cartoon. She briefly occupied herself with browsing the wares of a booth selling anime DVDs, but found none she was interested in she didn't already have. Oh well. Maybe there'd be something else to do?

The Tengu sighed, wandering through the convention. Idly, Akira wondered if anyone had taken up Cedric on his offer. Especially anyone... interesting. Grinning at the thought, and with nothing better to do, the bird girl decided to head over to the band area and check things out.

To her amusement, it seemed several people had showed up. First there was some guy in a dress who glomped Cedric, a sight which she found to be absolutely and hysterically hilarious, causing her to laugh outright. Then there was some crabby looking dude who was glaring at Cedric like he was trying to fire laser beams out of his eyes, and then there was some girl with a snake. Well, she didn't particularly LIKE snakes, but it was still interesting enough to catch her eye regardless. Deciding to make her entrance, she wandered over. If she noticed the tension between the members of the group, she didn't show it. She strolled up, a massive grin on her face.

"Well, would ya' look at that!" She declared. "Cedric, you can make friends? You should have told me earlier! I didn't think it was possible!" She joked, her smile not faltering for an instant despite the fact that she had just walked right into the middle of a face-off between a Vampire and someone who was probably some sort of supernatural being who disliked Vampires - Werewolf, perhaps? - or maybe a Vampire hunter. She didn't have much to worry about. Given that she technically - technically being the operative word - was at least part Human, although her incredibly strong Tengu blood had overwritten that part of her existence from the very beginning, she wouldn't likely smell or seem odd to any of them. That was the reason she had managed to evade the Hyakki-yako she had helped build for so long before she came to America - because she was very, very difficult to detect.

"So, are you guys all interested in joining the book club?" She asked. She didn't wait for a response. "Sweet~!" She declared cheerfully. "And here I thought mascara-boy didn't have the charisma! I'll never doubt you again - on that count at least!" She gave Cedric a hard, almost violent pat on the back, and continued to beam in an altogether too manic way upon the rest of the group.

Cora just kinda stood there watching everything happen around her, it was nice of Illuminous to kind of stand up for her, and she reminded her self to thank him later. So many people were talking at one time. They all act really weird... she dryly noted glancing at the guy known as Blake and at Illuminous, they seemed tense and uneasy, the worst part is the fact that she was stuck in the middle of a large group of people and she was already feeling short on breath, Keep it together, no running away gasping for hair, hold.it.together! Cora mentally hit herself shaking her head slightly.

"Sorry Didn't see her." the guy said making her want to scowl and release a few rude comment's around him getting glasses and a hearing aid, but she bit down on her tongue. "I'm Blake." he said offering a hand to the guy, which I would have slapped away. "Sorry miss." the guy said now glancing at me, I rolled my eyes at him and spoke up " I have a name, and the next time you happen not to see someone, try paying more attention Sir. " I said grinning on the inside, of course that's the reason no one likes me, i'm waayyy to blunt and straight forward with people.

I bit down on my tongue until i tasted the bitter flavor of my blood, regretting the words *like always* as soon as they left her mouth. Cora looked at the most bubbly girl of the group and nodded slightly amazed with the fact that someone could be so cheerful. "I'm here for the book club.." Cora said glancing around, was everyone here for the club?

( Tsukiakari you forgot to say my character was there ^^ And sorry the spots so big! )
