Invasive✼ Off-Putting ✼ Cruel ✼ Deceptive ✼ Uncanny

At first glance, Bertrand is perfectly pleasant. He tends to carry toys with him to give to children, interacts with others politely and smoothly, and carries himself with a perfect amount of charisma and charm.

And then you get a glimpse--just the slightest glimpse--of how unusual Bertrand truly is by his invasive tendencies, lack of response to drawing frankly obscene amounts of blood during an examination, and the sometimes odd things he says with a perfectly brilliant smile. While his deception can cover up his sadism fairly well at first, the more one spends time with Bertrand the more they get the sense something is just…off about him. Somehow, there’s the sense that all of his smiles are just a bit too bright to be real, his movements are just a bit too stiff to be human, and his kind words are just a bit too cold to be true.

"Oh, my. It seems someone isn’t flossing!"

Oddly enough, Bertrand doesn’t seem to remember anything about his early childhood. Instead, his earliest memory is of meeting his wife, Bathsheba Batricia. Batty, as Bertrand liked to call her, was equally as detached and unusual as young Bertrand and the two swiftly became extremely close, with Batty encouraging his odd interest in dentistry. Bertrand was doing work in the industry long before his son Balthazar was born, often using Balthazar as a research subject or test subject by force-feeding his son certain foods that would ruin his teeth just to mess with them and test a new flouride he’d been given.

Something about having access to the tools he did somehow only twisted Bertrand further--although Batty seems to believe his childhood had an effect on that. Needless to say, he made life downright miserable for Balthazar, who quickly grew to be just as off-putting as his father in an entirely different way.

Bertrand didn’t think much of it when his son suddenly disappeared to a killing game. Didn’t think much of it, that is, until he was whisked off to the same fate.
