Appearance Description
Beneath his cowled helm, Darian might be considered handsome, other than his rather alarming birthmark. His birthmark, which can unsettle some of the most seasoned and hardened warriors, affects his eyes. His eyes have no pupil, nor iris, for they are a pure, brilliant white. While this does not effect his vision, it makes many who see him very uncomfortable when under his scrutiny. There are many theories about the origin of Darian's unusual (some would say unnatural) eye color, from black magic to him being a being from another world, and the entire gambit between. Darian himself is unsure of their origin, but he enjoys the benefits that they bring to his line of work. Other than this, his face is rather ordinary, except for minor scars that he's gained through Championing the Princess at tournaments.
Another aspect of Darian that unsettles people is his size. He's rather tall compared to those around him, at six feet and eight inches tall. He's also rather heavy, weighing in at 280lbs, almost entirely muscle, lending to his awe-inspiring feats of strength. His body, strangely devoid of hair, is very defined, almost like a living statue more than a man's body. Although not many have seen it without his armor, it too lends to his intimidating presence.
Armor/Clothing
Darian's armor is forged with a unique forging process with a metal that's unique to Vroeia. The metal, known as Frost Steel, can only be made high up on the mountains in the country by a few choice smiths who are deemed worthy enough to know the secrets. The armor always stays cool to the touch and posesses the strength of armor twice it's thickness while being almost half of the weight. His chosen sigil, a black wolf's head with frosty blue eyes, is emblazoned upon the tattered tabard that he wears on top of his armor. His greatsword, also made of Frost Steel, extends to five feet long and can easily be wielded in one hand thanks to his strength. He occasionally sports a large oaken tower shield that's reinforced with Frost Steel, emblazoned with his sigil. .
When not fully armored, Darian sports fine cotton shirt over leather breeches and calf-high boots, with a cured leather overcoat for some protection. He also sports a large Frost Steel dagger when not armored, as he only uses his greatsword when he's fully armored.
Skills
- Blademaster - Darian, despite the massive size of his blade, commands an incredible knowledge of swordsmanship and wields it with immense skill. Whether he wields it with both hands or with his titanic shield, he is capable of pressuring an opponent and surprising them with the speed and dexterity of his swordsmanship.
- Hand-to-Hand Fighter - Even unarmed, Darian's titanic strength lends itself to hand-to-hand combat. One blow from his gauntleted fist is capable of denting cheaper suits of armor, breaking smaller bones, and very easily knocking out teeth.
- Experienced Smith - In order to be able to repair his armor (if necessary, Frost Steel is very durable) Darian studied in the ways of the Frost Steel smiths, learning just enough so that he wouldn't need to spend weeks repairing his armor should it ever break. However, knowing the bare minimum about Frost Steel smithing allows him to work with much duller metals very easily. He personally forged and maintained the Princesses' armor back when she was still a stronger woman.
- Battlefield Medical Knowledge - He can stitch a wound, he can cauterize a cut. If it's a quick and hasty trick to stave off Death on the battlefield, he knows it. At least, if it's fixable. Disembowelment, mutilation, decapition can't be fixed no matter who you are, but he can treat or partially treat most wounds sustained during a battle.
- Survivalist - Darian's been stranded out in the wilderness after more than one battle he's fought in without food or water or any other kind of amenity, and he's learned to create what he can't simply find and hunt what's necessary to keep him going. He's not great hunter, nor will he slay the largest beast the kingdoms has ever seen, but he can survive. That's enough for him.
Phobias / Fears
- Failure - Darian fears, deep down in his very soul, failing the princess and the kingdom. Which he fears failing more, he cannot say, for he doesn't really know the reason. He has pledged his life to Lady Eris, and only his death will honorably relieve him of duty. If he failed, he would most like throw himself into dangerous situation after dangerous situation to end his life as quickly, and most likely violently, as possible.
Bad Habits / Vices
- Bloodlust - The Avalanche, sometimes called The Red Blizzard, harbors a sinister hunger for battle and a bloodlust that is difficult, if not impossible, to sate. He gets carried away in duels or in the midst of combat and has been known to turn on friend and foe alike when the Lust takes him. In the rank and file, soldiers shy away from him. Only the insane ever challenge him to duels. Any cocky or hot-headed challenger meets their end with their guts in the dirt and sightless eyes staring at the sun.

Although he would deny it to his last breath, he has a soft spot in his heart for dogs, and frequently feeds the strays around the grounds with bits of food he can steal from the kitchens or whatever he doesn't eat at his own table.
