History:

Long ago, when only a few some villages dotted the desolate land of Alsonia, dragons descended to the land. The fire dragon landed in the far east, and volcanoes rose, the heat stretched far across the land and formed deserts. The earth dragon landed in the far south, carving deep canyons and raising mountains as it's magic spanned it created plains and meadows and provided fertile land. The wind dragon landed in the far west wearing into large boulders forming cliffs over looking the ocean where cool ocean breezes and powerful wind storms are birthed, as it's power spread it gave life to lush thick woodland forests. The water dragon landed deep in the north, forming harsh snowy terrain and snow capped mountains, as the magic spread it formed large rivers that fed into large lakes that in turn fed into large rivers until it met the coast. The dragons of dark and light were too large to land in any one spot and concentrate there energies there, so they embedded themselves withing the hearts of the people, and the land itself, forming shadows, purity, inflicting wounds and then giving the ability to heal them. But on that day one dragon did not land. The dragon of time, it was angry with what the vile creatures of the land had been blessed with, it picked up the tiny village of Xerania, by the very land it was founded on and started to crush it in it's enormous paws. One child that had been outside the village saw the terror that was happening, and this one small fragile child of human blood, stood up against the dragon. The child threw a stone, a small tiny pebble, insignificant in a normal beings hands, but when the stone hit the dragon, it glen, shimmering bright and grand with a prism of light so bright it blinded the dragon and whole world for a few split moments. When the light vanished, the dragon was gone so was the child, in their place the small pebble glimmered only slightly and had a symbol carved in it. The town floated back gently to the ground as if it were light as a feather. Smaller than before, a deep crevices with water at the bottom surrounded the town now and no one could leave it for weeks until a bridge was built, and by the time one bridge was built, the pebble was lost amongst the land.

So is the story that almost every child is told in the Kingdom of Alsonia, although now it's believed to be just that, a story with no real truth. Now the town of Xerania has grown into a vast city with districts and even a grand castle in it. Indeed there is a deep crevice with water at the bottom surrounding the city, and a high wall that has four gates that lead to four bridges that were built to link the city to the land, but most just believe that the first settlers of the Kingdom of Alsonia found it that way and built the bridges themselves. Ever since it was settled the royal family has lived in Xerania, and the town has grown to be the capital of all of Alsonia, and has grown to have high trade and contact with every race. The dwarfs and orcs in the south, the light elves and were folk in the west, the blood elves and vampires in the north and humans in all of the kingdom. As time passed the city of Xerania grew to have guilds to help the common folk since the people of the kingdom feel it's not right to bother the Knights of Xerania with peti things, especially since the Kingdom of Alsonia has never been on good terms with the two of it's neighboring kingdoms, Slemen and Folross.

Guilds: (What are they? What are they for? Character placement and entrance.)

What are they?

--- Warrior Guild: Placed close to Gate Two, just inside the West District of Xerania, The Warrior Guild is filled with Ex-Knights, traveling swordsmen who stayed in Xerania, and people who flat out didn't like the rules and never wanted to be a Xeraniean Knight. Full of mostly fairly normally folk, who follow the rules, and brutes. While being the second least enlisted in service of the Xeraniean Knights, they the most respected faction like group in Xerania, aside from the Xeraniean Knights themselves. Second largest guild, the leader is highly respected and does their share of the work. A few dwarfs and were folk have been enlisted in the guild in the past, but currently none are in it any longer. You're either a lackey, squad captain or lone man in this guild.

--- Priest Guild: Placed in the dead center of the Grand Castle of Xerania and Gate One, in the North District of Xerania, the Priest Guild is filled with people who want to do good, help others, have a knack for healing, or are just highly religious, the most commonly enlisted by the Xeraniean Knights, they are the third highest respected Faction like group in Xerania, following the Warrior Guild and Xeraniean Knights. The largest guild, the leader is also the High Priest and is said to be the most skilled healer of Xerania. A few light elves are in this guild. This guild has a seniority system and is organized by how long a person has been in the guild and if they have any previous generations of their family in the guild.

--- Mage Guild: Placed against the wall of the South District, instantly next to Gate Three. The Mage Guild is, as it sounds, for mages and magic wielders. While the guild also does medical research along side the priest guild, it specializes in magic and magic item advancement. The guild is filled with many intelligent and skilled people, even a few blood elves reside in this guild. The smallest of all the guilds, the Mage Guild is the Second most commonly enlisted into the services of the Xeraniean Knights and is the fourth highest faction like guild following the Priest Guild, Warrior Guild, and Xeraniean Knights. The leader is rather eccentric and spends most of their time in the form of an owl. Mages are the only humans who can use magic and usually the element of their soul is what magic they most commonly use and specialize in. Is organized by the skill of an individual.

--- Thief Guild: Placed in the East District, near Gate Four, The Thief Guild is fool of misunderstood people, loners, and people who are just flat out scary looking and resent others. Probably the most variety in one guild, the Thief Guild has members with high and low morals, some will do any job, some will do certain jobs outside of Xerania, and some will do any job as long as the price is right. Some of the members stick together while others stick to themselves. They are only to be enlisted by Xeraniean Knights during times of war or to steal something back that has been stolen. There are rumors that the leader is actually in hiding and the one that says he is the leader is actually just a proxy, but nothing has been proven. This is the third largest guild and is the least respected faction like guild in all of Xerania. Has a worth system in place, the more jobs one has done successfully and how well they do it successfully places them.

--- Knights of Xerania: The Knights of Xerania a.k.a. the Xeraniean Knights are the largest force in all of Xerania, and the most respected. They reside in the Grand Castle of Xerania, and are for the most part respectable, they have a few not so admirable characters in the Knights as well. The Xeraniean Knights are the heroes to children all through the Kingdom of Alsonia. The entrance exam is said to be the toughest of all the Knights in any of the Kingdom and rival those of neighboring kingdoms. The dream position for most boys for years, recently women have been allowed into the knights as well, so recently that there are still a good few who oppose it, one of which is High Councilman Kronoff. People start off as a Squire and then get promoted to knight and then to brigade captain.

--- Predator's League: Established by the Vampires, Orcs, and Were Folk, The Predator's League is a group of beings that think that the human race is inferior and are no better than cattle or pawns to be used and discarded. A very racist league the members usually either stay with their own race or seek out humans to use. The league has grown immensely large and arrogant and have been recently ignoring the law that prohibits preying on humans. Because of this the Predator's League isn't exactly on good terms with the humans, dwarves, light elves, or blood elves.

What are they for?:

The only group hated by even the Thief Guild in the whole Kingdom of Xerania, are bandits, people who do nothing but cause problems for travelers and country towns, they even try to get inside Xerania from time to time. So they not only make is necessary for guild members to be hired to do transport missions, guarding missions, and capture missions, but from time to time they can get so hostile that Xerania has to take offensive actions against them. Aside from the bandit, there are wild beasts and lost souls all through out the Kingdom of Alsonia, as well as threats of war between the kingdoms, so weather it's catching snakes, clearing out a bridge site full of bandits, fighting a horde of hostile orcs, defending your home kingdom, or just babysitting some kid for the day, there's almost always a job to be done by the guilds and knights of Xerania.

Character Placement and Entrance:

The guilds really don't have too many requirements for joining, just be good or intrested in the line of work for that particular guild and be willing to do any work. The Knights, on the other hand, have entrance exams. They require you to be at least 16, able to hold your own in a fight against another person, and have a clean past. As like with anything, being a new person means being at the bottom of the hill that the hard work rolls down, and you get most of the laboring jobs.

Races:

Humans --- Humans are versatile and reside all through out the Kingdom of Alsonia. They can do magic, but they can only master up to four basic basic types of magic and as combination magics as the base magics can produce. Humans have major cities in all of the kingdoms and are common to see almost anywhere.

Vampires --- A dark race that resides in the north, they can do magic weather or not they are in a guild, transform into mist and bats, have telepathic powers, and have a weakness for the sun (if a vampire is in the sun it's not wise for him or her to pick a fight and they'll feel sick, and possibly pass out but they won't decintegrate into ash) have to feed off blood of others, legally only animals but some feed on humans. Usually if a vampire feeds on humans it's a safe bet that he/she's in the predator's league.

Were Folk --- A race more of lycan than werewolf, they can control when they transform, and can transform into a wolf or wolf human hybrid. While unable to do magic at all they are very intelligent in the ways of medicine and have helped all races advance in medicine. They have high speed, defense, and attack. Due to their abilities most think humans are inferior. Some were folk are enlisted in the predators league.

Orcs --- A brute race unable to do any magic what so ever, they rely in their power physical strength to help them. In a one on one match with a were folk and orc would probably win if just melee was used. While most orcs have a hit first ask questions later attitude they are of almost equal intelligence to humans. Due to their strength most think humans are inferior. A fair amount of orcs are in the predators league.

Blood Elves --- A very proud race, while they refuse to join the Predators League, they mainly keep to themselves, all can do multiple types of magic no matter what, have good eyes, and are very good with stealth. Unlike their sister race, the Light Elves, they don't live with the land and are probably the most intelligent race. Very adept with magic they can master more than one element of magic.

Light Elves --- A down to earth race, they get along most with the humans and dwarves. Very adept in magic they can master any type and almost all light elves have mastered light magic and other types. They live with the land, and have, alongside the were folk, made great advances in medicine for all the races.

Dwarfs --- Dwarfs are proud, but down to earth at the same time. They stick to their mining and provide the most ore of any kind in all of the races. Most of the best weapons smiths are dwarves. Being very versatile, they can fight well, provide support, and build well. Most stay within their fortress city and usually only have contact with humans for trade or when humans go to their city.

Magic Scale:

Base Magics:

1. dream
2. star
3. death
4. life
5. dark
6. light

12. psychic + dark = torment
13. earth + lightning = tremor
14. dimension + (anything except chrono or ice) = summoning
15. dimension + chrono = gate

Remember this is an RP for growth!!!!!! So for example, list the magics your character is going to learn through out the Rp, but they won't know all of them in the beginning of the RP or rather they won't have mastered them all. For example we'll take my character, a human, who uses dimension, chrono, psychic and dark, which gives her toe opportunity to use gate, summoning, and torment magics. That is her POTENTIAL! In the beginning she can effectively use one magic and may dabble a little in the other basic magics, but she hasn't mastered them and can't combine them yet.

You don't have to state which magic of the ones you choose is the one that your character is already adept in but keep this in mind.

I'm willing to have more experienced characters in the RP as well but they have a higher bar and I will be doing a bit of back checking on the owners Rping before I approve. I'd appreciate it, if you want to be one of the more experienced (veteran) characters if you PMed me and discussed it with me first.

Bored now. Really bored.

A large green Top Hat bobbed up and down through the marketplace crowd, the only visible part of the young Blood Elf while he was immersed in the living current. It swayed and occasionally stirred slightly as it made its way upstream against the crowd; a periscope for the Elf below struggling to make his way as most workers were headed home for the evening. As soon as he cleared the crowd at the other end of the square three flaming logs came hurtling towards the Elf.

Without slowing down the Elf grabbed the first log on the fly, throwing it in the air. Then the next with the other hand and the last with the first hand again. Juggling the three flaming logs he slowly inched closer to his intended target as three more flaming logs hurtled his way. Flinging the three he currently juggled back at the originator in rapid succession, he smoothly took on the new logs in due course and continued moving in closer. Finally only a few feet from the other juggler now, the two hurled the flaming logs back and forth and into the air at a startling pace. Several of the onlookers started to move back as the path of the logs began to blur into an incandescent pattern of light.

“Ready for the big finish you beautiful son of a bitch!”

“Whenever you are you fantastical bastard!”

The Elf and the Human flipped all the flaming logs so high up into the air the first was just a flicker of light, one closely followed the other up towards the sky as they spun. As the logs hurtled back down towards the ground the Elf took off dead sprint towards the Human, planting his right foot on the Human’s knee and propelling himself off it into a full back flip. He nailed the landing, struck a pose with both hands high in the air while going to one knee. Meanwhile the Human made a wide loop in front of him, connecting both his arms by the fingertips. The green Top Hat came off, rolling onto his shoulder, down the arm and flipping end over end through the Human’s loop. The Elf caught the Top Hat upside down and one by one the flaming logs all disappeared into darkness inside of the green Top Hat.

A loud chorus of applause, cheers, and laughter broke out in the square as some of the onlookers started to toss coins towards the Human’s hat. “Profiting off me again I see you greedy asshole. Well, see you later.”

“Always on the lookout for impromptu performances, you know that you gloomy prick. Here’s some coin for your troubles if it’s such a burden on you!” As the Human flipped him several coins he leaned in and placed a message in one of the Elf’s inside pockets. They both knew that the Elf had enjoyed the show. But for some reason, whenever they saw each other they just couldn’t keep the conversation from degenerating almost entirely into esoteric banter.

Just like old times.

Once he had moved a suitable distance away from the square he reached into his coat and pulled the small note; but he turned at the sound of a raspy voice calling from the alley to his right. The Elf made a quick detour into the alley and refolded the note.

“That you Old Man?”

An incomprehensible string of vowels and grunts slowly echoed out of the shadows. Sitting up against the back wall of the alley, the Old Man quietly slid his cup out of the shadow of the alley’s back corner. The coins hit the ground in rapid succession as he flipped them alternating hand to hand until all of them had bounced once off the ground or off the brick wall behind and right into the Old Man’s cup. The Old Man smiled and quickly went back to sleep. Satisfied, the Elf removed the note once again and read it, a grin slowly creeping across his face as he finished.

Looks like multiple interested parties here. Darkling Crevices Gorge. Steal samples. Interesting.

As he looked up at the sky storm clouds gathered and the first few drops of the evening landed on his face. It was getting late and there was a lot of ground to cover. The ones hired to retrieve the samples for the Professor probably had a good lead on him.

Better hurry and at least make the forest by nightfall.

He started to whistle and meander towards the West Gate. Eventually his meandering led him to the front of a livery where he stepped in through the huge rolling doors that comprised the main entrance. Inside a young Human boy was tentatively handing the reins of a beautiful Arabian Horse over to the owner for a small bag of coin. Sensing an opportunity, the Elf slowly skulked up behind the two as the transaction was completed.

“Nice horse, very nice indeed. So you recently acquired this horse from this lad here, did you sir?”

“Yeah, that’s right. 45 Crowns and she is all yours.” The boy suddenly glared at the man and yelled, “What? You told me it was only worth ten Crowns. That you could only sell it for fifteen Crowns at most.” Chuckling to himself the man turned back to the boy, “Yeah well, consider it a free lesson in life kid.” Reaching into his coat, the Elf removed a bottle of clear liquid and two small bags. Dashing a little of the liquid on a gold coin he removed from one of the bags, he untied the loop at the top of the other bag, emptying its contents onto a small table near the wall. He blocked the other man’s view of the table as he carefully dropped out the contents. As he turned he flipped a gold Crown to the man. “Well it sure is a nice horse, yes sir a nice horse indeed. 45 Crowns it is. Inspect my coin if you like.”

The man caught the Sovereign mid air and his eyes grew wide as he saw the Elf move aside to reveal all the money on the table. “Well hold on there now stranger, seems to me that a man of your means could probably afford to pay 55, no 60 Crowns for such a fine thoroughbred.”
The Elf turned back to the table, picked up a bunch of the coins, then looked at the man and said, “Well I do need to get underway tonight. And that Arabian could go full pace all the way to my destination tonight. That would make travelling the vast distance I need to go much easier. Okay. 60 Crowns it is.” The Elf flipped several of the coins over to the man who caught them and carefully cradled them in his hands before tucking them quickly away in his pocket.

The boy stared in amazement as the owner accepted a single Crown and then pebble after pebble followed by a few small rocks in exchange for the Horse he had just sold. Who was this Elf and when was the man going to get angry?

“Also, I noticed that the Quarter Horse in the corner there is moving around lame. I know a guy that would take it off your hands for a couple Crowns. Makes adhesive from their hooves.”

A worried expression came across the man’s face as moved towards the Quarter Horses’ stall. “Damn your right, I just can’t catch a break. Well I suppose a couple of Crowns is better than nothing followed by having to kill and haul him away myself. Alright.”

The Elf grinned and flipped the man two more rocks as the boy looked in amazement at the spry and energetic young Quarter Horse that was supposedly, “lame”. What was happening here?

The Elf gathered up his pebbles, grabbed the reins of both horses and started to walk them outside. The boy followed him out to the street and a little ways down the road. Finally, just a few blocks from the West Gate, the Elf turned, “Here you go lad,” the Elf half whispered as he handed him the reins to the Quarter Horse. “Here’s a free lesson in life kid. Sometimes greedy bastards get what is coming to them.” With that the rain started to pour down, drenching the two almost instantly, and the Elf took off out the West Gate at full gallop.

Theryl did not show up, and that only made Serene more pleased. She may not have been the type to harbor a grudge over something this petty, but he gave her the bad gripes. As the two returned her greetings, the two barely spoke any further when a ‘Brigade Captain Linth’ appeared from behind her. Curious about this person, Serene turned to see the Blood Elf as she walked up to the Vampire. She seemed to have tensed up as she came, but Serene couldn’t be sure.

Nevertheless, she decided on the policy of politeness first. “Good afternoon,” She said, returning the greeting Linth offered to the group. “I’m Serene Glacier, a Vampire from the Predator’s League.”

Having learned from the earlier encounter with Nyx, she had figured this statement, although a mistake in itself, could actually lead others to undermine her. Smiling, she was about to outstretch a hand to Linth when Nyx decided to move on.

The journey was somewhat light-hearted for Serene, with little sunlight to mar her day. Nyx tried to keep conversations amongst the group going, but they mostly fell short of expectation. Serene herself did not participate much, actively, unwilling to share her mercenary days, and also unsure of what she could say. As time went by, day became night. Now, the presence of sunlight was no longer dependent merely on the clouds in the sky.

Serene grinned at the coming of this time. The forest started to spring to life, much unlike its earlier dead form in day. Nocturnal predators begin to play their little hunting game with their prey. The night becomes more silent, save for the rustling of leaves and the footsteps of the group. Serene couldn’t help but feel so much more at home in here.

Just then, it started raining. At Nyx’s suggestion, the group went for an inn some place in the forest.

"Well hopefully you all aren't too weary from the walk, and by you all I mean Miss Linth and Serene, Jackson no one cares if you have complaints," Nyx said, more serious to the rest than to Jackson.

Serene smiled at the little joke, then focusing on Linth as she responded that the walk was ‘pleasant’- with which she had no disagreements. The coming of night during this walk had been a welcome change to the Vampire. After all, they were creatures of the night. “I agree with you,” She said after hearing Linth’s response, nodding.

“Or do I spot the gallant Linth Krins, of His Majesty’s Xeranian Knights, no less, at this humble fireside?”

The blood elf addressed hardly moved from her position. She was nearly afraid of one approaching her...almost, not quite. Gently turning her head to look at the mage-elf, she only did this out of politeness. 'Gallant' was perhaps a bit much for Linth; much to much embroidery for her tastes.

"Ah, Alannis de Contarini of the Mage Guild. Your eyes do not deceive you as I am right here." Her tone was nearly dry, nearly. It would not help with her manners, but in truth, Alannis de Contarini was not the person she would like to speak to on a regular basis. He was quite the powerful mage, no doubt, Linth having encountered him several times before during some missions as a Captain. She had great respect for his magical ability, though, his personality made her feel something to be desired.

Linth cleared her throat, standing in a swift but not sudden motion. With a simple, muttered water spell, the last of the droplets clinging to her skin was repelled gathered in her palm like a giant droplet.

"I am sorry for leaving just as your coming, but I believe I should get some rest. There is much for me to do tomorrow morning." and with that, the blood elf took her leave. Taking a few moments outside, bellow the inn's overhanging, she deposited the large bit of water, closing the door after her as she finished. Linth spoke swiftly and quietly to the inn keeper's son, requesting a room.

"If it wouldn't be to much trouble, I will be staying in an open room for the night." Fishing around in a leather satchel containing less valuable items, she set several coins in front of the boy before moving upstairs. Up the stairs, her footsteps not making a sound as she went. To her left, an open door was shown, a modest living within. A cozy bed with a small dresser was all that was in the room, but it was perfectly fine for the blood elf. It was nice and simple, just as she liked it.

Her long Jian sword was placed onto the dresser top, standing over it for a few moments, taking the time to put the strongest magical ward around it. In all honesty, the ward was perhaps a medium level spell, that any experienced mage could have broken through. Petty thieves would, however, have a hard time breaking though, being caught before making a get-away with the sword.

Climbing onto the soft sheets of the bed, she lay there. Placing her hands behind her head, she drifted off into a dream. Tomorrow, she would raise at dawn.

Nyx sat happily enjoying the warmth in a slight silence after Serene and Linth responded to her. Only a few moments more went by before someone addressed Linth. Nyx recognized the voice immediately and didn't even have to look to know it was Alannis de Contarini. He was a fellow member of the Mage Guild and a skilled one as well. Nyx had seen him instructing a couple times, and around the library of the school, as well as with the head master a lot, but she never spoke to him anything beyond the pleasantry that was a 'good afternoon' or 'good evening' as she passed him. There were always rumors about things he's done with his magic but Nyx believed most of them to be just rumors.

Shortly after he arrives Linth dismissed herself and retired to a room for the night. Nyx let her curiosity get the best of her and she looked up at Alannis and asked him, "Excuse me Sir Contarini, what brings you all the way out her if you don't mind my asking?"

**Some where deep in the heart of Folross Kingdom in the City of the Were Folk**

There's large room, made of black stones, dimly lit by the occasional torch on the wall. In the center of the room the outline of a desk can be made out. There are two small stained glass windows on the wall on either side of the room. Occasionally the room is illuminated better by flashes of lightning from outside. The flashes reveal a fire place, behind the desk, with some wood in it waiting to be list and a white rug in front of it. A chair is behind the desk and a figure is in it.

A sound of movement is made and a gust of wind flows through the room and then stops. "Mi'Lord, everything has gone well, and the plan is in place. Lord Brutus is ready and waiting for the interception, and the orcs have done their part to deal with the other issues and are on their way to report back here," the solider said.

"Good, make sure those buffoons do not get followed, and if they do then dispose of them before the get too close to here," the figure in the chair said. The solider did a salute and left with another gust of wind.

Lyros and his mean were going at a cantering pace on their horses, luckily for them the path they had to take helped them avoid the rain. One of the soldiers picked up pace a bit, on his horse, to catch up to Lyros.

"Sir...." the soldier started to say but Lyros interrupted him.

"I know, we'll just keep going forward for now and see what they do," Lyros said calmly. He kept his mannerisms the same, his body language and voice calm but you could tell by his eyes that he knew they were in danger.

When Jackson entered the Inn, he immediately shook the water from his hair and cape. He ran a hand through his hair to try and rid the excess water, but to no avail. Of course, one of the spell weavers in the room would have no problem drying, while him and his limited knowledge of the fire magic would be more likely to set himself on fire. He shrugged, to him magic just seemed to be a gimmick, compensation for natural raw skill. However, he wouldn't tell this to the ladies as the probably had the power to immolate and drown him at the same time.

"Well hopefully you all aren't too weary from the walk, and by you all I mean Miss Linth and Serene, Jackson no one cares if you have complaints," He heard Nyx's jab.

"Of course milady, no one likes a complaining knight... Not seemly and what not," He said taking the joke good-naturedly. He then pulled up a chair to a window and watched as the rain fell. He didn't like rain, he was more used to the cold, dry mountain nights. "Nothing beats the fresh mountain air..." He mumbled under his breath.

He then heard the entrance of another individual, and shifted in the chair and noticed it was another blood-elf. From what he gathered from Nyx and Linth it was Alannis de Contarini, another Mage's Guilder. Ah, another who could destroy me with their mind and a flick of a finger. Perfect He silently thought to himself. He turned his attention away and listened to the soft pitter-patter of the rain.

[Xeranian Royal Forest, Sylvan Inn]

Out of courtesy, operating more-or-less on automatic, Alannis rose with Linth as she excused herself, a perfect iron-hard mask of blandness over his features. “Have a pleasant night, Brigadier,” he called after her, even though he was fairly sure Brigadier was not the correct title any more.

He shook his head after her; Linth was too spiky for her own good. ‘Excellent at what she does, of course,’ he added hastily in his head – one hardly rose to high rank in the Knights by being a dunderheaded imbecile – but not exactly what one would term a great conversationalist. It rather reinforced the image of the Knights among the rest of the population.

He frowned as her magic caressed the edge of his senses – the same shivering presence he’d felt, though massively diluted, in the rains that afternoon. Presumably she hadn’t meant to ruin a perfectly fine afternoon – although, considering the rather poisonous relationship between her and the High Chancellor, something that was often the talk of the Royal Castle, it couldn’t be ruled out.

If that were the case, however, then what precisely was she trying to do – and why hadn’t she asked for instruction or aid? Unless it was something good little Xeranian Knights weren’t supposed to be doing...Alannis made a mental note to keep a weather eye on Linth, back in the capital.

Purely for academic interest, of course.

He turned, suddenly startled, from his musings as another, familiar voice impinged on his consciousness. He gazed quizzically at the source over his glasses, and winced imperceptibly as the words registered. ‘Sir Contarini, I mean, really.’

“Young lady, if you are going to attach an honorific to my name I much prefer it to be the correct one, hmm?” He adjusted his glasses, although in truth he relied more on his magical sense of the world around him than his eyesight these days. The odd signature radiating from the human was a familiar one.

“But no matter. I do believe you’re the youngling the students have taken to calling the Dark Beauty as of late? You will of course forgive me; I frequently cannot remember the names of humans. You pass on rather too quickly for it to be practical in most cases.” He flashed her a perfect, apologetic smile.

“As to why am here in this benighted patch of wilderness rather than happily in the capital; that is simple. I require roc eggs and phoenix shells for an...experiment, shall we say? If you could find an adventurer who knows how to field-dress a roc and preserve her eggs, or how to get a phoenix shell at the instant of its rebirth, I would happily pay their weight in gold.” He shrugged expressively. “Since such things seem not to exist, adventurers being the idiots that they are, I generally find myself roaming the wilds for the more interesting ingredients.”

He gestured expansively around. “The Sylvan is simply the first stopover – I try not to camp outside unless I absolutely must. Tomorrow I shall be heading through the Darkling Crevices and on to the cliffs for a spot of hunting.” He smiled suddenly, predatorily, enjoying the thought of bringing a roc down in flames.

“And what of you, Dark Beauty? Quite an...eclectic...company you’re keeping.” He cast a quick glance around the inn’s main room. “But where are my manners?” He produced, magician-like and with a flourish, an elegant tulip-shaped drinking glass. “Can I offer you a drink to lessen the chill?”

Serene kept her silence all this while, preferring to play spectator to the conversations around her. Centuries of seeing and hearing life had already made her quite sorely bored of it all. She went for a sofa and sat down, relaxing by the fireplace. It was saddening to see that the group had no intention of moving on at night- that would translate into having to deal with the mission in daytime. No doubt, she’ll be a burden to the group.

Though, that wasn’t her concern. Her worry was more of letting the others sees how weak she was during day. She had no idea what monsters they were due to face either. With all these uncertainties rearing their ugly heads at her, she was suddenly wishing for a peaceful journey. Nevertheless, there was only a little comfort in the name ‘Darkling Crevices’, for it suggested darkness of some form. Yet, just the name itself didn’t do much to ease her concern.

She sighed inaudibly, staring at the dancing flames.

Focusing on the people around her, she took a momentary interest on Alannis. This was yet another elf, albeit shorter than most Serene had seen before. His hair was a deep crimson, and matched with his, to Serene, flashy choice of clothing. Alannis was conversing with Nyx. What about, Serene didn’t know and had no intention to eavesdrop. Her eyes remained fixated on the flames, watching as it danced its ever-peculiar dance.

The night was young, but there was almost no reason for Serene to sleep. Whether or not there was sleep, she was still going to go to the mission weakened and experiencing nausea. Who cares if there were sleepiness added to this list?

Her lips curved slightly into a wry smile as she stared on.

Nyx smiled up at Alannis, "I address you with a prefix of honor, outside of the city you have no real title until you reach another town, In my eyes out here everyone is the same in the eyes of nature I all you Sir out of respect for the feats you have done and nothing else and the knowing fact that you are my superior in they skills of magic.... also much older as well.... I supposed I could call you grandpa if you wanted," Nyx explained and giggled slightly at her light hearted joke.

She smiled and chuckled halfheartedly and said, "yes that's what they call me, I'm Nyx although I don't expect you to remember the name after this meeting anyways,". She listened to him explain why he was there and said, "yes good adventurers are hard to come by that are capable of such things." She was about to excuse herself and had stood up to do so when something odd happened.

"Ah," she let out a small surprised sound and looked at the window, "Everything was silent the rain had stopped and the fire moved but did not cackle. She looked at the others who all seemed to have noticed it. Moments later a loud thrash and a crash and the roof of the inn was gone. A large roar was heard as two fully adult rooks ripped into part of the building knocking debris everywhere.

"What the hell are rook doing here?! They don't come this far north ever!" she yelled as a large gust of wind hit them following the speed of the rook. She swung up her arm and a thing strip of blackness followed it and formed a small shield like force field that stopped a flying piece of debris from hitting her. The rooks were larger than normal rooks, their bodies were black and their feathers shined in the now clearly visible moonlight, their eyes blood red, and had large white talons. Nyx looked over to see the young inn boy helping his grand ma out and running away with her on his back, she sighed slightly seeing the two okay then scanned the area for Linth. She had to dodge another swoop one of the rooks made but still got knocked back some by the sheer force of the gusts of wind as it flew by.

She got up and looked at the others, "Any idea guys? These rooks aren't just gonna get bored and fly away on their own," she said as she looked back to the rooks one was flying around to make another pass at the group.

Jackson paused his thinking as the pitter-patter of rain stopped. "Strange... That-" he was cut off by the thrashing that was going on upstairs. He immediately jumped from his chair and stood in near the others. As he took his position he automatically drew the katana and held it upside down defensively, the blade running down his arm. His other hand grasped the hilt of the saber that was still situated in his sheath, ready to draw it and attack at a moment's notice.

Then he saw the rather large black rooks. He never seen many rooks as they were up north, like Nyx said. While he did like birds and the freedom they represented, these rooks were a different story. They were large, black, and menenacing, but the Jackson never hesitated or twitched. He stood his ground.

When Nyx asked for an idea, he had one. Albeit a bit disjointed and probably outlandish, but it was one. Jackson reached behind him with his hand that was on the hilt of the saber and retrieved the combat knife. He then held it by the blade and turned to Nyx and the others as he made a throwing motion with it. "If any of you can augment it in any way and make it more deadly, it would be appreciated," He said and turned to the Rook that was making another pass at the group. He judged the angle, trajectory, and timing quickly, and threw the blade through the air, tumbling end over end towards the rook.

“Finally,” Serene whispered under her breath.

Like the other members of the party, she had noticed something was wrong. This night was starting to become peaceful, and that didn’t appeal. Now it did, though.

Without warning, the rooks tore into the inn from above, ripping past the roof. The bits and pieces of the wooden roof fell around the group as the rooks rushed at them dangerously. These rooks were unusually large, and had talons large enough to lacerate, and maybe kill in one precise strike. Smiling slightly, Serene got up, as the other members of the party responded to this attack. “Shall we dance,” Serene muttered, her voice carrying a spooky tone to it.

As soon as that was said, her spell worked it’s magic, and shadows began crawling up to her hands and form the shape of a sword. In a brief second, Serene’s sword, the Danse Macabre, was in her hands. Quickly raising the blade, she niftily deflected a chance swipe one of the rooks took against her. She didn’t let the rook get away with it though, returning the favor with an instinctive counterattack. “Pulsar,” She mumbled, enchanting the Danse Macabre with dark energies as she swung it in the general direction of the rook that attacked her, sending a wave of dark energy at it.

“Call me grandfather and I shall boil the flesh from your bones and encase you in a chronotropic bubble to have you experience the pain again and again,” Alannis replied, deadpan. “Although if you’re a masochist I suspect you might actually enjoy that sort of thing.” He paused a single beat. “You’re not, are you?” Faint mischief flared in his eyes, but he never got to hear Nyx’s reply.

With a shriek of tearing wood and the thunder of falling masonry, the roof of the inn tore away in splinters, the pieces raining back on the ruined inn – and the group of adventurers. The blunt thunder of the passage of their attackers knocked several flying, scattering them like ninepins.

Alannis struggled up, the remains of a chair burning to a fine ash around him, a near-reflex action to anything approaching at high speed that was likely to cause him harm. “I recommend we eliminate them with all due haste!” he called.

He blinked upwards for a single second, then focused on the task at hand, levelling his hand like a gun heavenwards, towards one of the rooks as it circled round for an attack, its great wings mashing the air and sending winds howling towards them.

Sol Invictus,” he murmured – not loud, but curiously resonant. Near-unbearable light and solar fire spun itself out of the air, plating itself on him until it appeared he wore a mantle of blazing energy, a halo of brilliant sunlight, a burning aura which intensified and coiled about his pointing finger even as spherical missiles of solar fire blasted towards one of the rooks in a steady barrage, each one hot enough to melt flesh from bone in an instant, spitting and flaring in the moisture-laden air.

Linth's blinked from her slumber, suddenly awakened. The air was still, much to still.

There was no rain.

The blood elf leaped from the bed, plunging her hand through her barriers, gripping her sword with sudden alertness. What happened next, it was quite obvious that she did not expect. The entire roof disappeared in one swoop of an arm, bits and pieces of wood flying through the air and towards her. Currents of air blasted across, aimed at her, nearly sweeping her off her feet. Her double edged sword was swung in a mighty arc, deflecting a oncoming piece wood with ease.

More wood and debris forced Linth to the ground. The blood elf cursed, forcing a condensed bulb of air before a splinter was to impale her. From the ground, she could see the grown rooks in all their glory and power, and she must say, this was defiantly not expected. But it did not mean that it could not be handled.

Spells from Nyx could be seen hitting first, great birds of darkness striking, followed by a well aimed knife and a pulse of dark energy. Just as she was muttering a spell, she was forced to look away. Solar fire was basted at the creatures; no doubt from Alannis.

Much to large for a blade to battle with...well, not entirely impossible but it was not Linth's tempo. The air around her was thick with battle and steam as the flares sent heat in great arcs, water from puddles raising. So much water, so many uses.

Another sweep from the creature was made as Linth dashes down stairs, having no wish to die from the brute strength of a rook. Nearly tripping a falling several times, she could see the others poised with great intent for victory. It was time to add her part to this battle.

Taking a runners stance, one hand with the sword tucked behind her back, the other firmly on the ground, she said with great clarity the spell of her choice. "Hydras" A simple spell used by an expert. The water that had gathered from the storm rose in a single file from her hand, like great pillars. Spears of water hit the rooks like a punch of water.

Nyx used her magic to give Jackson's blade a little extra edge as he threw it. She used the shadows around her to make a physical extended edge, as was the nature of her dark magic. It used shadows and turned them to physical items and forces by making the molecules that the shadow covered become more dense. The blade hit the rook in the stomach and it let out a screech but was still powerful enough to fly by at high speeds swooping down at them. As it did Nyx saw Serene use dark energies in a pulsating type of attack and attack the same rook after it swept passed her, cutting the rook in multiple places and pushing the blade further in causing the rook to fall to the ground and stagger for a moment before once again flying high up off the ground.

Alannis ' magic hit the other rook square on and the rook let out blood curdling screeches as it fell to the ground and laid still. The flames had completely engulfed it and when they subsided it was just a large skeleton with the inner walls of muscle that rooks had, which resembled a smooth dull leather. "....That works," Nyx said impressed as she looked at the clean, slightly charred, skeleton. The other rook swept down at them and they all dodged out of the way. Another screech was heard, this one a slightly different screech and Nyx had the wind knocked out of her as she saw talons wrap around her and lifter her off the ground. She looked to see the skeletal rook was flying and holding her.

"What the.... a reanimated rook?....." Nyx was dumb founded as the rook flew higher, she had heard that death magic could reanimate dead monsters and control living dead monsters but it was such a hard magic to master she only personally knew one person who could do it. The skeletal rook threw her up in the air high and as she started to fall it started to fly up at her, with deadly intent, as the other rook flew at the others swooping down close to the ground again. Nyx was scattered brained as she tried to think of an idea. At the last moment she flung her arm to the side and gritter her teeth as a large ball of shadow came up and knocked her out of the line of attack. The rook flew passed her and she fell into a nearby tree.

"Ow...." she mumbled as she opened her eyes to see she had some how gotten stuck upside down in the tree. She fidgeted and pulled until she fell out of the tree and landed with a thud, "Not my most gentle or graceful series of events.... ouch... yeah those ribs are bruised," she mumbled cursing at herself as she got up. "Those are supposed to be dead! They're reanimated already We have to sever the spines from the body!" she called out to the others and quickly rejoined them.

"So what's the strategy? We can burn them to just bone and as long as the spine is in one piece they will still live," she said looking at the others while keeping an eye on both rooks.

Moonlight danced between the branches of the trees overhead as the Blood Elf galloped through the forest. Bright pairs of eyes in varying shapes, colors, and sizes stared from the edges of the forest path as the Horse ran by. Trees ached and shuddered, the branches almost seemed to be reaching out to impede the Horses’ progress, but he just galloped on relentlessly. By the time too many pairs of eyes started to converge on the Elf, he was well on his way down the path. It was easy to keep the Horse motivated to gallop full speed, it was terrified of stopping.

Suddenly the Elf reached a small clearing, lit eerily by the flickering light burning from flames scattered around on bits and pieces of what use to be a roof. A couple of Rooks dive bombed and swooped down at several people amongst the wreckage, swirling in an evil dark mass around the forest canopy of the clearing. Dozens more appeared coming up fast from the horizon of the night sky. The Elf dismounted and took in a deep breath.

“Wonderful, dazzling shiny objects as far as the eye can see! Helpless, succulent, baby chicks of all kinds, shapes and sizes! Colorful string, soft nests made of the finest plumage and strongest twigs, big plump, juicy earthworms! Step right over here and enter the amazing world of Rookadise!”

At first the Rooks seemed quite unimpressed and continued their air raid campaign against the other people in the clearing. A single, unharmed Rook briefly glanced over its shoulder as it rose from another bombing run, and tilted its head slightly towards the curious Elf and his green Top Hat. Now pointed directly at the Rook, it couldn’t help but look towards the Top Hat and started to slow, moving into a long turn to come back around and land by the Elf. Gingerly, it touched downed and cautiously peered into the Top Hat, gazing intently. It jolted and shook as its Master bade it to return to the sky. But this wonderland was too amazing for even a mostly dead Rook to ignore.

Another unharmed Rook, and then another tentatively landed near the Top Hat, peering and jostling each other for a view. Slowly they inched towards the Top Hat, and finally climbed inside, disappearing into the dark. Most of the Rooks however, continued their assault on the people near the old Inn and its now burnt and splintered form. Six of the skeletal Rooks, feathers and flesh burned or removed from their bones by magic, gathered together in formation and started to curve around towards the Elf. As the Rooks dove in unison towards their target he removed a small clear bottle of liquid from the inside of its coat and spun once, hurtling the liquid into the air all over the Rooks.

The Elf was gone, the Rooks carefully scanned the area but only the green Top Hat remained. One of the Rooks landed by the Top Hat, grabbed it in its beak and flipped it over. It walked around the Top Hat, spun the Top Hat, and finally grabbed it in its beak and tried to fly away; only it couldn’t seem to pick it up from any angle. Some of the tree branches near the back end of the clearing by the Inn rustled in the moonlight as the Elf jumped from the shadows and coated two more Rooks with clear liquid, quickly landing back amongst the foliage of the forest canopy.

There was no choice in the matter. He needed to coat all of the Rooks in poison. Maybe help the others out as well.

The eight Rooks which had been coated in the liquid were airborne again, but they now circled high above in a frenzy of squawks and commotion. It looked more like a search pattern than an attack.

Alannis threw himself to one side as spear-like shafts of water shot skywards, crashing into one of the circling rooks. “Linth,” he hissed in irritation. “Why does she have to make everything so damn wet?” he growled, as steam boiled up where the water met his dissipating corona of solar fire, and then stared in shock and stupefaction as the rook he’d blasted to a skeleton shifted and moved, grabbing Nyx and hurling her high into the air.

She was marginally intelligent, he’d give her that, turning her magic upon herself to evade the rook’s assault rather than trying to stop it, even if her action had hurled her into a tree; that dress would probably never be the same.

“We have a multiplicity of options,” huffed Alannis as he crawled over to where Nyx was, avoiding the attentions from above as much as he could. “This is so undignified,” he added, sotto voce, making a mental note not to try to salvage alchemical components from his enemies in future. Rook skeletons could be quite useful in certain reactions and magical processes – and these ones, mutated by some form of magic, would be doubly interesting - but next time, he resolved simply to vaporize them. “I won’t ask how you know smashing the spines will work.”

He squinted skywards, magic racing in his brain, pouring down his arms to pool in his hands as a greenish globe of liquid light. An accomplished magus, words spoken aloud were not generally necessary to direct his will in the base magics.

He threw his small sphere of emerald light like a bowler, towards the skeletal monster. A fairly simple spell, as chronotropic magic went, a little cantrip of aging to reduce the bones to dust, Alannis had added a little twist.

Normally, such a spell would reduce only a small part to ashes – Alannis had aimed it at one of the lumbar vertebrae – and he hoped that would be sufficient to disrupt whatever maleficent magic that sustained the dead thing. If it wasn’t, however, Alannis’ buried extra would surface, feeding more energy into the spell, an exponential growth of chronotropic magic which would reduce the rest of the skeleton to nothing. Energetically expensive if it was needed, but it was a modification on the fly.

He frowned at Nyx. “Dark Beauty, you have chronotropic magic too, do you not?” He smiled suddenly, wide and white. “Curse them with age and wither, force arthritis to their bones, cataracts to their eyes, rot their muscle to fat, make them slow and weary, break them from the inside out, give the muscle-men a chance to make a kill!”

Jackson ran to the tree where Nyx was thrown with his saber drawn in his off-hand for defense more than anything. He planned to make any rook to pay if it thought about picking him up and taking him off. He would rather had to have to fly on his own terms and not that of some necrotic demon rooks. Then water began to spray on him from what he knew would have to be Linth's magic. He shrugged it off and arrived to Nyx.

"Are you al-" He paused for a moment as he made a wild slash at a rook who had ventured too close. He missed horribly as the fell beast rose in the air and took off. "Alright?" He managed to finish and took a defensive step in front of her. He of course knew she could handle herself, the position was merely habitually. "Snap their spines? How am I supposed.. to..." He trailed off glancing behind him at the tree Nyx had hit.

"I bet..." He mumbled to himself as he turned to face the tree. "Only one way to find out." He said with a wild smile and stepped forward to the tree. He deftly began to climb the tree with the drawn saber to dig deeply into the bark. Within moments he was half way up. He began to walk out on a thick branch extending both hands to help keep his balance. At the farthest he could go safely he knelt down and held on to the branch to keep from slipping and waited.

He didn't wait long for a Rook flew under his branch. Jackson let go of the branch and fell directly on top of the rook, causing the bird to lose altitude. It squawked angrily and kept trying to reach behind and peck Jackson, however it couldn't reach. He just pushed the birds wings down to make the bird keep losing altitude. Eventually, he gauged that the ground was close enough below him to make a safe land. So he held on the the side where the birds wings and neck met and placed the saber on the opposite side. With a quick jerk and a spatter of black blood, Jackson had decapitated the bird causing it's squawks to cease. The lifeless body dropped from the sky and hit the ground with a final thud, while Jackson rolled when he landed to minimize the damaged to himself.

He stood up quickly and was slightly shaken at the quick decline. He shook his head and looked up and around him, trying to gauge what happened while he was on his little venture.

The battle was far from over. Despite having brought down two of the rooks, they seemed to have been brought back to life. Serene didn’t know, and could scarcely be bothered by that fact. The fun, to her, laid in slaughtering those unfortunate beasts that have decided to attack the group.

Her Danse Macabre moved in a strangely morbid fashion, as Serene sword-danced. This was her favorite attack strategy, for the complexity and randomness of the impromptu sword dancing created a plethora of attack moves that never fails to catch her opponents off guard. As she was about to strike, one of the rooks went for Nyx, grabbing her away with its talons. Thankfully for her, by what seemed to be quick thinking, she used a spell on herself to effectively evade the rook’s assault.

Going out of the inn after the girl, she didn’t have to wait long before Jackson came along. Her sword continued on around her, swinging about dangerously, gleaming under the moonlight. The rooks were still free, but not for long. Serene was just starting to get a little bored with an enemy that wasn’t engaging her enough.

In one quick movement, Serene bent her knees, and gathered enough force to launch her into the air. Her Vampiric strength saw her reaching to some distance in the air. She further used this to her advantage, identifying where the rooks were, and launching several more blasts of dark energies towards those monstrosities mid-air.

Nyx looked at everyone and said, "I'm fine focus on the task at hand," she said then she looked at the rooks and turned her attention to Alannis, "You must be so old you forgot the basics to combating the dark arts, either that or you skipped that beginners class," she said with a slightly smug smile. She always felt like all her efforts weren't for naught when she knew something about dark magic and similar magics that others didn't. Alannis made a suggestion and she wanted to hit him upside the head. "Do the words student teacher mean anything to you?! I grasped the concept of time magic only a few months back! Do you know how long that incantation would have to be?" she asked and stared at him for a moment and then sighed, "Fine fine give me five minutes and I can probably do a small ranged area of effect spell on the remaining rooks." as she said that Jackson successfully killed one of the rooks.

Just then she looked around to notice a good deal of the other rooks missing and, she saw what to her, looked like a midget elf that was dressing up as a leprechaun. "Who is that walking fashion disaster?" she asked point him out, "Never mind let's worry about him later," she added then she closed her eyes and started to focus. she started to mumble an incantation in an ancient language. She kept up the incantation as the others fought off and killed another rook. Finally she stopped and held her hands out to where they made a triangle and muttered, "Atios Revokos." The rooks seemed to notice the disturbance and shrieked and flew as if they were trying to shake something off. The feathers started to fall off then patches of flesh decayed. Even from a distance you could hear the bones losing their marrow, cracking and snapping. Some rooks fell to the ground lifeless and the others weren't far behind. Her focus finally stopped and she breathed heavily. The bad thing about studying magic was until you got the hang of it it really took a toll on your body and different magics took different tolls.

"There... no all you guys have to do.... is practically hit any of the spine bones with so much as your hand and it should severe, those rooks are on there last leg now," she said in between breaths. The others set off and started to easily kill the rooks. She finally regained herself and stood up, out of the corner of her eye she say some white strands, "what?!" she yelled. She pulled her hair out of its ponytail and held it in front of her, it was white as moonlight. "ALANNIS, IF THIS IS PERMANENT I'M GOING TO END YOU!!!!" she yelled

Linth watched really, her movements only slight to avoid attacks. Two rooks, much to weak to defeat those that had gathered here in such a small inn. Nyx obviously having his under control. Odd, the blood elf thinks to herself, she had not expected the Dark Beauty to be able to use such strong time magic. The girl really did have talent, though the incantation was much to long for use if she were alone. Perhaps she should look into that. Strong magic could be condensed into shorter incantations, or, so she had heard. But as it were, her water magics seemed to do well, plenty of steam and mist. Just enough to bother others it seemed.....

As other rooks joined the fray, following a queerly dressed male elf, it was only a matter of time before this battle were to end. She sighed, perhaps she should have stayed in the city. She gathered herself though, both hands resting on the pummel of her sword, eyes closed in concentration. Linth's thin lips moved with muttered silence; a short spell. Slowly, her eyelids drew back and the last of the words were uttered, "Ayrious"

Air condensed for a short moment before releasing itself in a short wave; like a ring caused when a pebbled is dropped in a pond. The force was light, and by Nyx's own description, "practically hit any of the spine bones with so much as your hand" several of the rooks fell; snapped like a twig. Perhaps one or two were still standing, but she could not be to sure. They were falling all over themselves.

With a slight turn of her head, she watched as the previously dark-haired Nyx was shouting about her now white-haired look. Linth giggled inwardly; she would never be caught giggling in public... Seems like Nyx couldn't be called 'Dark Beauty' anymore.

Spider-black eyes blinked slowly at Nyx. Then, in a tone as mild as spring rain, he remarked: “You’re quite welcome to try, White Beauty.” He polished his glasses and returned them to his face with an absentminded absorption.

“Besides, I consider it rather charming. Although you might need to change your title, my lady.” He paused again, considering her notions and ill-thought-out objections, and considering the decaying and rotting rooks trying to flee, victims of her magic. Impressive, at range, especially for someone who claimed to be new to chronotropic magic.

“In any case, I hardly think you should be complaining. Part of the definition of a teacher is someone who will push you.” He gestured grandly to the rooks, now distant specks. “And I note that aside from a minor aberration in your chronotropic reflection shield, you managed what was required of you. Well done.” He blinked again, all the dangerous power contained and hidden away. “You needn’t thank me – noblesse oblige, and all that. The master teaches the student, et cetera, et cetera. Full marks all around. It appears I shall have to rethink my opinion of our knightly Linth, too. It seems she can do more than bring rain.”

He held up a glass, suddenly, as if from nowhere. “Brandy,” he instructed. “Kirana ’84.” Suddenly, the sparkling, ornate crystal filled with a rich, caramel-coloured liquid. Alannis raised it, toasting the fleeing rooks as they were ripped apart in the air – victim of spell or winds, it was almost impossible to tell. He sipped it delicately and hummed in pleasure. “Mmm. Almost makes up for the ruined inn. Which reminds me.”

He twisted one of the heavy golden rings on his fingers. Purple light flared and pooled in his hand, powerful dimensional magic, casting his face into lurid light and shadow. “I think we’ll need shelter, since the Sylvan Inn got torn to pieces. Pyra’s combustible knockers, I hate the wilderness.”

She glared at Alannis, "Yeah! it's gonna be a longer one White Beauty that Killed an Old MAN!" She looked at her hair more and let out a fake cry, "I'M TOO OLD TO LOOK LIKE MY GRANDMAAAAAAAAAA!" then almost instantly as if someone slapped her to gather herself she stood up not bothering to put her hair back in its pony tail.

She walked over to the rooks and looked at them as they lay on the ground starting to decay back to their original eroded bones they had before they were brought back to life. 'I can't believe I did this... I mean it was an invocation head master gave me but I can't believe I was able to use it...." she mumbled to herself as cracking and shattering of some bones could be heard. "These were really old bones who ever brought them back must be very skilled in the ways of death magic......" she mumbled. She walked over to Linth and the others and smiled, "Good job everyone I'm sure if anyone of us ad not been here someone may have gotten seriously hurt," she said and then she looked over near where Alannis was using some dimension magic. "Well we did just get attacked by rooks, but the rain has stopped, would you all prefer to start back on the trail or take the rest of the night to hopefully rest undisturbed?" she asked looking at all of their faces.

-----------------------------------

Over a ways away from the group by Kyvian.

Ami calmly and quietly walked up to the oddly dressed looking elf that captured her rooks. She tugged on the tail of his trench coat and looked up at him. "Mister Leprechaun sir, can I have my rooks back? The man said I needed them so I could save my mommy. I need them back pretty please?" she asked in her soft quiet voice knowing the others wouldn't hear from the distance they were at.

She looked up at the man, he was very oddly dressed in a green trench coat that matched his hat, he was short but still a few inches taller than her. "If you give me my rooks back I promise something really good will happen to you soon," she added in a slightly more cheerful tone trying to barter for them.

A crescent knife whirled through the air right on target for the mid section of one of the few Rooks remaining in the clearing. The Rook smashed against a tree, its spine and body completely severed in two by the crescent knife. The two pieces slowly slid down the rough bark of the large tree as the Elf retrieved his knife.

Now those are some useful spells. Slow to warm up but quick to finish I see. Perhaps these are the ones I am looking for.

Climbing down to the base of the tree he had been stalking Rooks from, Kyvian felt a short tug on the back of his coat.

People shouldn’t be able to sneak up on me.

"Mister Leprechaun sir, can I have my rooks back? The man said I needed them so I could save my mommy. I need them back pretty please? If you give me my rooks back I promise something really good will happen to you soon." Without turning the Elf addressed the girl as he slowly began to remove his Top Hat. “Well my dear, I’m afraid that I make my own luck, and tend to distrust little girls wandering dangerous and enchanted forests at night without showing the slightest signs of fear. That is unless on the inside they aren’t really a little girl. But I would be more than happy to discuss the release of my hostages in exchange for some information. Who are you? Until I have an answer to that question I think that Bob, Fred and George will stay right where they are.”

Suddenly the Elf dropped the Top Hat from its raised position and as the Top Hat fell towards the ground the Elf disappeared bit by bit inside. The Top Hat started to rise off the ground again as the Elf reappeared holding a single Rook. “Bob here is very happy with his current accommodations, lots of food, shiny stuff, colorful stuff and of course, Lady Rooks. I just wanted to show you that your Rooks are perfectly fine and will remain so until I we can come to an agreement. That agreement of course will depend mostly on you.” Kyvian carefully placed the Rook back inside the Top Hat and started to walk out of the shadows of the Forest and into the clearing towards the others. “You’re welcome to accompany me until we can reach some sort of arrangement. After all, I would be very interested in having you meet some people I am about to introduce myself to.”

Things just keep getting more interesting. No choice now but to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

The Elf strode into the clearing at a quick pace and upon noting the others eyes upon him, he slowed, took a slight bow and introduced himself. “Hello my fellow travelers! Kyvian Bernes at your service. Well done! Quite superb! You all handled yourselves quite well under such dire circumstances. Although I must say that even for me your tour de force seems a bit excessive. But you get lots of points for style! Even you Gramps! Say Old Man, you mind letting me have swig or two from your bottomless tap over there? Whiskey if you have it, made from grain? Any year will get the job done. You would really be helping me out."

"Anyway to the point, seeing as you fine adventurers have the look of steeled veterans about you, I was hoping to make you a proposition. I need to get to the Darkling Crevices Gorge, to collect some samples. By chance would such a strong and motivated group have any interest in earning some coin by escorting there? Also that little girl in the clearing could use some travelling companions as well.”

The Elf motioned towards the darkened forest at the edge of the clearing, the tiny silhouette of a little girl stood out against the darkness as she edged a step closer. “Payment would not necessarily have to be money.” The Elf removed his Top Hat and shoved his arm inside up to the shoulder. He continued digging around the Top Hat. “Now I know I have some rare magical items in here somewhere.” Finally his arm stopped digging in its circular pattern and was pulled free from the Top Hat, launching several flaming logs into the air. “Oops!" The Elf caught the logs one by one and flipped them back into the air, finally landing back inside the Top Hat. "My mistake. But I assure you I have a few top quality items you might be interested in as a trade for your services. Old Man could I interest you in a walking stick? Perhaps a nice warm blanket for the cold or some magical fiber to help keep you regular in exchange for that Whiskey?”

Alannis looked up, and the purple flare of dimensions being put through the wringer faded. For the first time, a very faint hint of irritation bled into his voice. “I fail to understand why you continually refer to me as ‘old.’ I have not seen my first millennium yet, for Pyra’s sake! My hair does not whiten, I do not wrinkle and wither like you humans.” He frowned, blackly.

“If you think me old, I wonder what you would have made of my parents.” He shook his head, and then turned to the ‘midget’ elf – who was, in truth, taller than him.

“A walking stick, Mister Bernes? I think not. I think not. The rest of your offer isn’t even worth mentioning.” He drained the last of the brandy from his glass, and as it began to refill, ordered sharply: “Stop. Grain whisky, three years and a day aged.”

A flare of white light, and the elegant brandy balloon he held shifted and changed, the glass flowing like water, mounding up into a lowball glass which quickly filled with whisky, even as the final details – miniature Coldharbour dragons - finished cutting themselves in the glass.

The harsh tang of the spirit drifted from it, balanced in Alannis’ beringed hand. “However. If, by some miracle, you happen to have any artifacts or books concerned with glass or gate magic, I will happily remove them from your possession for my whisky. Ice, by the way? And who is your little friend over there? She looks like one of my late father’s special maids.” Alannis hadn’t looked once at Bernes, his eyes, behind their winking spectacles, trained on the edge of the clearing, drawn to magic.

“As for the Gorge, consult with White Beauty over there.” He indicated Nyx with a flourish of his hand. “I’m merely passing through – although reanimated rooks are not quite the norm.”

Ami looked up that the elf as he talk about little girls, fear and distrust. Then he tried to bargain with her for information, "You're kind of weird Mister Leprechaun," she said bluntly then she watched him walking away to the group. When he seemed to point at her and the others looked at her she ducked behind a thin tree which, with her attire, could never completely hide her.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Nyx looked up as the tacky dressed midget of an elf walked over to their group. The elf discussed many things in the short few minutes he was there from trades, to traveling, alcohol, and a lot of sucking up in her opinion. He came off extremely cluttered to her when he had issues getting things out and in for that matter of his dimensional hat. Then he and Alannis exchanged a few words.

Kyvian, as she explained his name was, motioned towards a little girl at the edge of the clearing. "Oh she's so cute!" she said cheerfully. She stopped admiring the girl and looked over at Alannis a little scared to ask what he meant by "special maids". Then Alannis told Kyvian to consult her for the issue of traveling to the gorge. "Call me White Beauty again and I'll make you white with paint in the school library when we get back," she said testily.

She thought about Kyvian's offer and then looked at him sand simply said, "Fine, if you have the right payment and the whole team agrees then we'll allow you and the girl to travel with us."

--------------------------------------------------

Ami stayed hidden behind the tree to far away to hear the words exchanged, merely watching everything. "Mister Leprechaun is talking with the bad people....." she thought as she looked on. She observed more and thought back on what she had been told.

Flash Back
--------------------------------------------------

"Okay, now remember the short elf with the red hair, named Alannis," Brutus said as he lifted Ami into a carriage.

"I got it Bru Bru," Ami said in her usual soft tone. Brutus reached up and made sure she was safely seated and checked some things. He came back to her and handed her a small gem.

"This is a signal gem if you get in trouble just squeeze it tight an think of me and I will get to you. Remember Lord says he knows something about your mother so be sure to keep him alive and find out before you dispose of him, okay little Ami?" he restated.

"Yes I know," she said showing a slightly smile. The carriage set off and the wind rustled Ami's long blonde hair she raised her hand to touch the scar on her right check and looked up at the moon. "I'll save you mommy," she thought as she was carried off into the distance.

Flash Back End
----------------------------------------------------

She gulped down her fear and slowly came out from behind the tree, she instantly walked over to Alannis and stared at him for a moment. She looked up at him with her ever gazing green eyes and she got a slight smile on her face. "Hi Mister Alannis. If you tell me anything you know about my mommy something good will happen to you," she said to Alannis as she smiled her slightly eerie yet innocent looking smile.

Re: Tales of Alsonia

Should we get this going again? I may post soon just for the heck of it...

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Btw am I in? xD and sorry for double post o.o;;;

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

im sorry for not makin meh char yet imma make it today if I still can xD

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Ah, this Suziki character doesn't seem all that bad. Well, if played correctly, though after reading that character sheet I did start looking back onto my own and Must say, I'm disappointed In my posts and my character....Gotta kill the magics and make more ice cubes.....

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

I'm still here, I just didn't have enough creativity to make a decent sized post until a moment ago. Apologies if it seemed like I quit.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Ha ha ha no tha'ts a character that was never approve i actually declined her twice the character just wont go away that was someone else's character who wanted an op character and didn't even give her enough time to grow and wasn't a skilled RPer and wouldn't remodel the character so was never accepted. ^.^

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Yeah this may not be a sustainable pace. Tell me though Ms. Khaos, is your Suzuki Tepes character going to be the Villian? Please? I noticed she was listed under the "my roleplay" tab but not in the characters.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Aw, don't get down on yourself. I'm sure we've all had our bad days. (I know I have...)

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

@ Free_Polity: Yeahhhhhh, but that changes a bit with what was happening now plus it doesn't help that I just got hit with severe writers block, good thing this is the only open RP I'm in a.t.m. XD. I'm working on a post for tomorrow but it'll prolly suuuuck

@ MasterofLight2009: You can make a villain but he/she would be at least a subordinate of the true villain (which has yet to be introduced). He/she could do whatever they wanted to interfere with the characters but in then end he/she would answer to the main bad guy when they enter. But you don't have to play a villain but the option is open if you want to.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Hi, I was just skimming through this and I was wondering if you have a villain or you still need one that I can create. I would be happy to join this otherwise though.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

We have the core of a good story here. So long as the people who don't post much are okay with being mostly supporting characters, I don't want to slow the plot down for them so they will have a lot less input, then things should be fine. Plus I think we have some good quality here of different styles and eventually we will attract a couple more key players.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Everyone's going A.W.O.L. on meeeeee *cries* this did so much better the first time on my other site and we were off to such a good start here too Q.Q now it seems like only 3 or 4 people are left /wrists. I gotta get more people here XD.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Glad to be of service chinaji. ;) *Tips Top Hat*

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

He's amusing until he slips you some of that magic chloroform potion hahaha. Anywho anyone have any contact with qwer? Cuz I'm ready for us to set out but he seems to be a.w.o.l. XD.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Free Polity your character amuses me greatly XD

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

In the order asked/stated:

Hai ♥

Yes
Good you won't feel left out
and yes I'm working on it atm

Just to let you guys know though the professor is an NPC and anyone can control him to an extent. If you're unsure about controlling NPC just ask me.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Linths tagging along anyhow, trying to keep an eye on both the rookie knight and the Vampire Knight

Alright, now to the point. Karri, are you going to post a character page for Lyros? Just wondering XD

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Lol it's all good I'm a bit sick too so I know how you feel. Bleh Now I have to come up with some basic information for Lyros, but I have the feeling he'll be a fun character for me. ^.^

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia

Sorry for the slowness. Had to fall sick right after starting the role-play. That, and I'm working on a post right now.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Alsonia
